She makes no sense. Extremely difficult!!
it's not exactly an exciting class, but she does cover the material wee. her tests aren't too bad if you study..they could be worse. she gives out a lot of other points for extra credit and homework.
I would not take this teacher again if my life depended on it! She was absolutely horrible. We were lucky if the class average on tests was above a 60%. Avoid!
It seems like she'll be horrible, but she really isnt. She teaches pretty well and uses a lot of examples. Her tests can be hard, but if you take the time to look the stuff over, they're not that bad. She also gives bonus points all the time.
The class moves very quickly. Unlike the other teachers in the department she doesn't ask for definitions, rather application of the concepts presented. Very hard tests, wouldn't recommend.

DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!!! She keeps spitting out legal terms without explaining, has a very confusing work book and her tests are horrible. Basically, in her class, it doesn't matter what the law is, what SHE thinks is right is most important. AGAIN, STAY AWAY FROM THIS WOMAN!!!!!
I really enjoyed the class. Her tests are hard and are application based. I found using the handbook and the textbook together helped.
Treats her classes as though they should alredy know the material, she forgets this is our first law course.
She's a dry teacher, but she knows what she's talking about. Sometimes she doesn't explain things well, but she's willing to help if you need it.
If you want to do well in this class, don't take this teacher. I liked RIL classes til I took it with her.
worst teacher i've had at sms. could care less about anyone. terrible structure to the class. at least she is hot
not real clear in lectures
I took this class as an intercession and it wasn't too bad. You have alot of reading and a few written assigment. I definitely recommend taking this in intercession. Pay attention in class and take good notes and you'll do fine. If you ask her to explain things, she will go back over it for you.
She jumps around a little inside each unit, but her handbook really helps. I don't think I used the text book at all - I just took notes, studied the handbook & my notes, and pulled off an A.
She knows what she's talking about but for a 2 credit class she makes it too hard. You should take a different teacher for this class
impossible
Jumps around everywhere! If you dont take her class seriously, SHE wont take you seriously either. I pulled off a B but I did what she said and never skipped class. She knows her stuff-but its a topic that really sucks anyway. Get on her good side, let her know youre trying. Setting on the front row wont earn you brownie points.
Good class content, hard to follow.
If you want an easy section, do not take this class. If you want to really learn this stuff, take this class. Her teaching methods are a little confusing at first but she is one of the most knowledgable professors I have ever had.
This class isn't that bad. Don't buy the text book you won't need it. Just buy her hand book and take good notes in class. Go to review sessions they really help. Listen in her lecture for definitions.
Really hard class. She jumps around everywhere, you may have a page of notes and only be able to apply 3 sentences of it. NEVER skip class! Tests are rough but she does offer extra credit chances as well as easy points on group work and a couple of papers. Not a fun class by any means but she is your only choice for this topic :(.
This class is horrible. She will yell at you if you get an answer wrong in class. The tests are really hard, and she will not explain things. She makes you feel stupid. I love Law and I hated this class. Take it with somebody else
She really isn't bad. I would recommend taking intersession because she is a tough grader on assignments. Good glass though
Mediocre at best. She is pretty rude to the students and has attitude issues, so I recommend not participating just to be safe. Class difficulty is somewhat challenging. You don't need the textbook, just buy the handbook. Law isn't really my thing, but she doesn't make any efforts to make it more interesting.
This lady has some hard tests. For a 2 credit hour class, it is ridiculous. She has you buy a humongous textbook that she rarely ever uses. Follow her handbook and study a lot or you will be sol.
Very boring class with difficult tests. There are some in class assignments that are also difficult and the lectures are boring. Does offer some extra credit which adds up to about 1-2% of your grade if you do it all. She doesn't use the book, she uses her own workbook that is poorly organized and confusing.
TERRIBLE class and teacher. Doesn't explain things & expects you to follow along even though her book is extremely unorganized. Amount of information and difficulty is ridiculous considering it's only a 2 credit hour class. Not to mention one of the most boring classes I've ever taken. Absolutely awful.
Take someone else if offered. Nothing is easy to understand. The way she writes notes and questions and homework assignments is unlike anything I have seen in my 4+ years of college. First homework assignment involves reading, "explain(ing) and interpret(ing)" an entire law act, and that's only one question out of a handful.
She's not the most interesting professor to listen to, but then again it is a law class. Having the handbook is very nice and does make following along in class easier. Her tests and quizzes are difficult though, even with studying. I also thought with all the lectures we have to watch outside of class it should be 3 credit hours, not 2.
Very knowledgeable professor. Her in class examples directly resemble the questions on the tests. If you take good notes and pay attention you can earn the A. She's very friendly and willing to help you understand material if you show that you care and want to try.
Dr. Miller is one of the best instructors I have had at MSU. She is extremely educated on the material and more than willing to help. If you make an effort to reach out she will help you as much as she can. The class is very beneficial material for any career. If you put in the effort, an A is completely possible. It is not easy, but worth it.
Dr. Miller has experience in industry and a deep interest in her students success. Her supplemental readings provided extra support for difficult concepts as well as cases and assignments the fostered more learning. She holds high expectations for her students.
So knowledgeable of what she teaches. Answers questions in class easily. Goes fast and covers a lot of material so I encourage you go to get notes. She isn't very entertaining but probably one of the few professors I feel like I learn something relevant from. If you pay attention in class each day, you don't have to study too much.
2 credit hour class that she will continue to teach like a 4 credit hour class. Look forward to extended videos outside of class because she cannot teach all of the information properly. Waste of time and money
Very passionate about law but does not share that passion towards teaching. Will ask questions in class but if students try and participate and gets the answer wrong, she is very rude about it. If you have the opportunity to take a different course instead of this one, do so.
She's very intimidating, extremely intelligent, and slightly funny. Will call on you in class and, like the other user posted, she doesn't always respond to what you say making you feel stupid for even talking. Also, you'll definitely work for your good grade. She's fair, but challenging.
Doesn't curve. Good luck on trying to get an A.
Gives 3 tests over a ton of material. There is not telling what will be on a test because one unit covers so many different topics. Flys through the notes you have to buy from the book store and many times leaving you clueless on topics. Impossible to study all the information for one test. Hard grader on assignments.
Study guides for tests don't even make sense the way she lays them out. Flys through notes as fast as possible so she can cover 30 different topics in one class period. Never a clue what will be on test because the study guide has a ton of different topics and nothing specific.
Incredibly tough grader and isn't very clear in lecture. But will answer questions if you ask her. If you miss something in class, she will not go back over it for you. And don't miss an assignment otherwise it'll be impossible to get an A.
She is definitely not the helpful type of professor. She clearly knows what she's talking about; I'm not sure she grasps that her students are not at her knowledge level in law. She speeds through lessons and crams too much material within the lessons. Also, 52-57 questions per test during a 50 minute class. Not an effective teacher.
You definitely should never miss this class. Attending her lectures is essential. Overall, I thought she kept the class interesting. I enjoyed her lectures and often looked forward to this class over any of my others. The only thing I did not like about her class was the required notebook. It seemed disorganized and disjointed. It needs updates.
For the most part, if you go to class, everything will be fine. My biggest issue with her class was that she would assign in-class assignments, make you pair up with two random people in class, and then would grade the assignments with an iron fist, often marking you down and never saying why. Also, watch out for her bad mood days.
there's no Power Point. You only have an empty handbook.
Where to begin. Hardest grader I have ever had in my entire schooling. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU HAVE OTHER OPTIONS. Literally felt like I was in law school and its only a 2 hour class!! 6 page final study guide unfilled out, most disorganized class ive ever been in. DO NOT TAKE HER .
Very tough class from a very boring and extremely challenging teacher. Very tough to even sit through her 50 minute lectures.
Professor Miller is very nice. The lectures can get kind of monotonous but they are useful. If you miss less than 3 classes she gives extra credit. She goes very in depth and explains things. It's a boring class with boring material but she's a good teacher.
Very boring and monotonous class. Despite the class is only 2 credit hours, there is a lot of content. Make sure to understand the concepts because tests are all about application and the tests are insanely long. Don't take this class with her if you have another option!
This was a tough class but I loved Professor Miller. I really feel like I got a lot out of this course. The tests were difficult but she provided a very in depth exam review sheet. Just make sure you can apply the concepts.
Professor Miller is the worst teacher I've had in the COB. Lectures are ridiculously boring, extremely tough grader, had way more content than a majority of my 3 hour classes, handbook is pointless, and check blackboard regularly because on 3 occasions this semester she posted assignments without telling us in class, one less than 24 hrs before due
Do not recommend taking. She is very boring and an extremely difficult grader. Very hard class to do well in.
PLZ PLZ Do yourself a favor by not taking her. Save your money, time and your health cuz you'll end up going to the hospital from depression with her. THE WORST professor of ALL TIMES. Her book is total trash and useless. I don't care how smart you are, but you're NOT passing with B or better. I don't know where these positive feedbacks come from!!
She is one of the worst professors I have ever had. The tests are very hard, not only are the tests hard, but the homework is graded like you are a Harvard law student. She knows what she is talking about, however she goes too fast during lectures, grades very tough and doesnt provide you with content from the course to access at home.
She grades very tough. Extra credit is pages long and only worth 10 points, which she will check and not give you full points most of the time. Her cases are grades like you are a law student. Dont take her if you dont have to
You've already seen all the reviews. Literally the hardest teacher I've had in my 4 years of college. Tests are 180 points for 50 questions. Extra credit is 10 pts for 4 pages worth of notes. She knows what she is talking about, but she doesn't realize she is teaching a 2 credit hour class, that nobody truly cares about, they just have to take it.
Her mandatory handbook is very unorganized and confusing. It literally looks like a high schooler was told to copy and paste things together. The lectures are very serious and generally very boring. On a positive 1 in 4 classes will have a real case study where she tells a short story. Very time consuming. Avoid if possible!
First day of class Professor Miller did not even great us, her first words were "open your handbook to page 14". Class is completely lecture with some class work scattered in the she grades with an iron fist. Knows her stuff when it comes to teaching, but has zero intention of being personable at all with her students. Do not take this class
You'll be lucky if she retires soon. The handbook is useless only serves as her profit made off it. No supporting material to do well in exams. Teaching style is outdated and she still uses an overhead projector. Will get on to you if you come late to class. EC is 10pts for a 4-page paper and no more than 3 absences. stay away if possible!
Her stupid handbook (written by her) is supposed to aid in taking notes, but makes it harder to study because it's so unorganized and looks like it was written by a 2nd grader. I barely scraped by with an A ONLY because I typed up & organized her handbook notes into a word doc after every class and used that to study. If you do that, you'll pass.
On the first day she goes straight into lecture, using law lingo as if everyone taking the class is lawyer. Her handbook is very confusing & unhelpful. She doesn't even attempt to make class interesting. Almost entirely graded on tests that are extremely difficult. She seems to forget its a 2 credit hour class and not a graduate Harvard Law class.
Very hard to follow along or understand her. For a 2-credit class, it will be your hardest class you take at MSU. She will give 30min lecture videos outside of class for assignments. Tests are very hard with trick questions. She uses strong/confusing law-lingo. She expects everyone to already know everything about law before taking the course.
Very rude and extremely arrogant. I overheard her talking bad about one of my presentations to another faculty member before. Pretty juvenile behavior from a distinguished professor. She doesnt care about anyone but herself, and no matter how much you study you wont get 100% on anything. I definitely dont recommend.
Dr. Miller is an ineffective educator and communicator. The class is made up of tests, quizes and in class assignments. The in class assignments are group work, lengthy and she expects you to write with the complete understanding and eloquence of a lawyer. The quizzes are infrequent and the tests arent terrible if you understood the lecture.
For an individual who made their own workbook and textbook specifically for this class, it is amazingly difficult to follow. The workbook acts like an anchor to weigh your grade down, because you dont understand where she is in the text and how to take notes on it. Honestly it would be better not to show up to class and simply work from the book.
I know lots of students do not like this professor. However, I took LAW335 twice and found that she is a kind and patient teacher out of class. In class time, she seems like serious and horrible. Maybe this is how a law-learner should be. She is really helpful outside of class. She will answer your question very carefully and responsibly. WORK HARD
Dont take this class!!
She knows her stuff, and give good examples, but grades like we are actually lawyers. The tests are actually easier than the assignments. She posts video lectures online to guide you, but her constant gurgling and coughing makes the videos unbearable to watch. What's the opposite of ASMR?
She expects way too much for a 2 credit hour class its kind of crazy. Shes pretty unreasonable with grading and the tests and quizzes are hard. I would definitely avoid her.
Refuses to post lecture power-points, not good with technology, unhelpful outside of class.
I am typically not one to take rate my professor post to heart, but for Carol Miller and her Law 335 class, this is 100% the exception. She is extremely unhelpful when it comes to question regarding the material. Test are very hard to prepare for, because she does not post any info on blackboard. Do not recommend any class with her.
This is the worst teacher I have ever had at Missouri State. She is so unhelpful and does not care that her students are struggling. She does not post lecture slides, does not answer questions clearly, does not know how to use technology, and is not understanding that none of us have done a zoom class before. She does not care to help and is so bad
Legitimately one of the worst teachers that I have ever had. Avoid at all costs.
I'd avoid her if possible. This class is so hard for no reason. She's a tough grader and just a bit unreasonable. I had her when everything happened with COVID and we had to go all online and she didn't take anyones needs into consideration.
Extremely slow reader, will make you very bored in class didnt have a good teaching method. Overall just was not a good class to take
I mean she doesn't give you anything to study for tests or let you know answers on the quizzes. No access to any power points. Terrible to take for an online class during the pandemic. Makes up questions that are extremely hard for no reason and half her spelling on them is wrong. Avoid her at all cost.
Professor Miller is the worst teacher I've encountered. She is very unorganized - the lectures don't match her CUSTOM handbook or textbook. It's quite confusing to follow along. Many of her online lectures are outdated ( 5-8 years old). She is unclear, so the exams are difficult. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Take the 3 credit hour class instead of her 2 hr.
Terrible professor here lectures are horrible and only over zoom this semester. i took this class as an in person course and on day one of classes she decides because of covid we can't go to class even though I go to all my other in person classes.
Super hard class. Would not recommend taking if you do not have to.
Carol treats this 2 credit class harder than most professors treat a 3 credit class. Her lectures are slow and she provides no access to power points or any materials for studying. Her quizzes contradict the information in her lectures. Her lectures take much longer than they should because she talks much beyond what is necessary. Avoid her class.
There's a lot of very valuable information in this class. Her notebook and the textbook needs to be reorganized. It is difficult to know what material to study before taking her excruciating quizzes and exams. Try to summarize all of the (long) case studies, bc she asks about them in quizzes. If she talks about Missouri laws, right it down.
Lecture videos are from 2017, and despite this being a 2 credit hour class, lecture videos are 3+ hours with several hours worth of reading. Her quiz questions are never clear as to what they are asking and are always timed giving little time to figure out what you're being asked.
Her custom handbook and blackboard are both completely disorganized, making it difficult to follow along and understand material. The information on quizzes and tests is worded more difficult than necessary. Certainly would not recommend this professor to anyone.
Easily one of the worst professors I have ever taken at missouri state. During lectures you can be skipping around in the handbook to different pages during the same lecture, she skips from topic to topic. She says that exams come from the lectures, but theres questions on the test that were never even mentioned in class. Avoid this Professor!
This is the single worst professor in the COB. I have a difficult major that I get A's and B's in and I am going to fail this class. I would avoid this professor but you don't have a chance to.
This is a good starter class if you are interested in the environment. No tests, and around 10 homework assignments. She is pretty picky, so be tedious about the assignments. Make sure you speak up in her class because participation is for a grade. You do not really need to take notes, but it is definitely not an easy A class.
I would've taken this course with any other professor but she's the only one that teaches it. If you talk to her one-on-one, shes nice, but in class she's not interested in students. Only cares about giving a student a grade and having no remorse. There's a reason why people fall asleep in her class and sit on their phones. Be prepared to study.
I think you can blame most of the bad ratings on the class itself - not very fun. She rambles in class and mentions a lot of things not on the test. She'll answer questions outside of class, but not likely to change a grade for you. Notes are easy to take with the handbook she created. Not terrible but I wouldn't take if not required.
I honestly don't think Dr. Miller deserves the harsh ratings. This class is going to be challenging because you have to be able to apply what you learned on the tests. I took this course online, did the lectures and handbook. Got a B+ which is on par with the first law class we were required to take.
This class has so much material for someone who is not going into LAW at all but it is just a requirement. She is way too smart of a professor to be teaching the basics because it is really hard to understand and you ultimately have to learn it yourself. The quizzes are really hard and the tests are confusing so good luck!
This professor is very tough all around. Exams don't reflect what is taught. Every question on the exams was made to trick you. Seems like the professor doesn't want you to succeed and tries to fail you. All the points are within tests. I took this class with another professor and passed with an A. Highly recommend not taking this professor.
Challenging class and a tough professor. Tests are multiple choice but you choose the least likely answer and all options are pretty solid. Know the material, don't skip video lectures or assigned pages. Had a respondus issue and it didn't record the whole exam and was required to retake.
