This teacher is awesome!!
Great Teacher, i can understand her clearly!! she is awesome
No Comments
This professor makes the class very easy to understand and do well in. Definitely recommended.
Very clear to understand. Best teacher for math. I would reccommend.
If you are not a "math person," you are left to learn it on your own. I feel like I am annoying her when I don't understand, and it's not that I'm an idiot; I just need a teacher to TEACH me. Runs through notes and simply cannot translate math into English, which is what I need. I don't know what these 5 other people are raving about.
Had her for Discrete for IT 1 and 2, and Data Analysis. You get bonus points on your test for showing up to class, homework is graded for completion, always willing to help you if you need it. She will get you to pass her class if she has to, uses my courses a lot. Grades pretty easy. Great professor, why else would I take 3 classes from her.
She shoots down the material so fast that you cant possibly learn in class. That said, she is the easiest teacher ever. She tells you exactly what is going to be on the tests, and gives credit for just doing the homework. Shes also an incredibly nice woman.
She is easily the best math teacher I've ever had. Bonus points galore for showing up to class, easy credit for HW and she grades everything right away. Shes extremely nice too!
Awesome teacher. Very personable, very flexible with extra credit and attendance to class (if you show up at another time for that class, she'll mark you having attended). Homework is easy grades. If you have a chance, get in her class.
Great math teacher. very fair grader. quizzes and tests fairly hard but homeworks and attendance points were gifts. Show up to class and you will get 5 points on your exam. and a 100 on a homework will cancel out a bad quiz. Also, she drops the lowest HW & Quiz. Highly recommend her lectures move fast, but she will help you after class if need be
She has a way of teaching that makes it quite easy to understand the material. Her office hours are extremely helpful. She does not assign homework that doesnt have an answer sheet or the answers in the back of the book. She assigns the homework at the beginning of the week that is due on friday morning right before the quiz.
Had her for Discrete math Tech 1&2 (205/206). great teacher! bonus points are ridiculous for attendance! her workload is fair, appropriate in amount, and she grades extremely well. I'm sad I cant take her next quarter! Highly Recommend!!! A+++
She takes her job very seriously And has to be the nicest teacher that ive met so far at RIT. She does her best to help and make the students life easier
She's realistic and nice. But as a teacher she can be confusing sometimes. Teaches directly instead of making sure the students understand. She's very stern. Overall she's not too bad.
I LOVE CAROL. She is the best teacher I've ever had. Goes wayyyy out of her way to make sure that students understand the material. Also tells great stories. Bonus points for little things are often handed out, and it makes the class that much more enjoyable. Do not hesitate to take a class that she teaches!
Took Discrete for Tech 1&2 with her, easiest classes ever. All class information is on myCourses, bonus points for attendence.
Great teacher, easy class low amounts of homework. Bonus points for showing up. weekly tests take 5min. take her if you can get her.
The best professor I've had at RIT so far. Show up to class and don't fall asleep. She's amazing!
She's nice. Give you points for showing up. Straight-forward. Easy to understand. Only gets angry if you do something like watch football games on your laptop like the **** in my class. She also gets mad if you don't show up to class and don't do homework because she makes an effort to help you.
She is incredible. If you show up to class and pay attention and take notes you should be fine. If you happen to miss class she always has slides on MyCourses. She's a fair and quick grader and she emails you with updates. If you fall behind she's always willing to catch you back up during office hours. Definitely take a course with her!
Nice, helpful, extremely fair. Practically handed us the final on a silver platter. Very little homework. Has a bad habit of teaching things the day before the exam. All notes available online. Will take again.
Great professor, She knows Discrete math very well and has been teaching it here at RIT for 7+ years. She is very organized and straight forward about the class's structure. She notifies students of homework / assignments in various ways and makes a real effort to make the class very do-able.
One of the most helpful professors I have ever had. She really knows what she is teaching, and really loves teaching it. Super easy class, as long as you attend class and take notes, you'll get an A! :)
Awesome professor all around
She's definitely one of my most favorite teachers of my entire life. She makes the class easy to understand and fun to attend. She teaches the subject well and likes to get her students involved. Definitely take her class if you can.
Took Discrete for tech 2 with her. No complaints whatsoever. I bombed one unit test but ended up with a 101 on the final thanks to the attendance bonus bringing me to a not-so-hard A in the class. Buy the textbook, the homework comes from there.
Awesome teacher. Helpful, nice, understanding, fun, wants you to learn, and all around awesome. Easy A with little work. Take this teacher!
Comment say it all. Take this teacher. Don't mess around in her class. Pay attention. Get an A. Its that simple.
Could not possibly be nicer. She is very nice, but at the same time isn't a pushover, which is hard to achieve as a professor. It's hard to tell whether her tests are easy or she teaches very well because I have no real frame of reference, but I know I learned a hell of a lot!
Extremely easy professor! Always willing to meet after class to answer questions, and willing to work around a student's schedule for tests. She doesn't care WHAT section of a certain class you attend, so long as you attend the class, so if you miss your 8am with her, you can come in later that day to another one of her classes. Fairly easy grader
Very easy teacher. She will keep you focused during the class, and is very upfront about homework assignments to do. Quizzes are short and simple. Teaches very clearly and knows the subject having taught it for a number of years. Get this teacher!
Makes the class extremely easy, and semi-entertaining. Without her, I imagine the material would be very boring. Easy to understand, very forgiving grader, and works around your schedule. DEFINITELY take her for any class she has!
Listen to what others have said. You want this teacher if you can get her.
Really good teacher. There are tons of opportunities for extra credit and she always explains everything very clearly. Definitely take a class with her if you need math credits.
Incredible professor. Taught well while only assigning 10-15 minutes of homework per week. Quiz weekly can be taken in any of her discrete 205 sections, and she doesn't make you come in on Fridays if you take the quiz on Thursday. Exam rather than quiz every three weeks. Attendance encouraged with bonus points on exams for perfect record.
An amazing math teacher. Im normally a B-C math student and I got a 98 in her class. Very nice and lets you take the quiz early. HIGHLY suggested :)
Possibly the best -teacher- I have ever had. I could sit in class, write some general notes, and I -learned-. Maybe it's her simplistic approach but it is extremely easy to learn from her. Do everything in your power to take her class.
Fantastic teacher, just like everyone says. I loved her for Discreet 1, am siggned up for 2 with her as well. Bonus points (5) on the tests just for showing up for class. Pay attention & don't screw around, because she will jump on you for that. She has fine tuned the course and her teaching methods to make the course as easy as possible.
Awesome professor. Tells you exactly what will be on exams. Understands how to teach math. Does a lot of repetition. But if you don't go to class every day without telling her, she'll get mad at you.
Professor Oehlbeck is an excellent professor. She utilizes mycourses well, teaches in an easily understood fashion, and does not require attendance everyday to pass (only quiz/test days). If she is an instructor for a class you need, try getting her classes before anyone else in the department. VERY GOOD AT TEACHING!
Notes all week, then quiz/unit exam on Fridays
0-10 minutes of homework every week. Bonus points on exams (including final) for attendance. Does not take crap, but is an excellent teacher who really knows her stuff. Cares about field. Great for Discrete I and II.
Easiest Math teacher. She teaches the material clearly. She teaches you stuff by showing ALOT of examples and if you attend every class leading up to a unit exam OR the final, she gives you 5 extra points on that exam! She also lets you know exactly whats going to be on each exam, and practically gave us the final.
Discrete Math 1 @RIT she is one of the best.
Much better than my professor for Discrete I, she taught Discrete II in an understandable way. Assignments were easy (because I knew what to do, not because it's a blow-off).
she is pretty good at teaching. its easy material just try to stay on topic and youll do fine.
She's a sweet lady. Go to class , pay attention, and do what she says. It's not a difficult class.
She gives a lot of bonus points if you always go to class. Just pay attention, do the homework (it's a 100 if it's complete) and you'll be hard-pressed not to get an A (and have actually learned something).
As long as you do all of the work it's an easy A and you still learn how to do the actual math. She gives out quite a few bonus points compared to other profs. Makes math somewhat interesting and doesn't make me want to go to sleep, plus she's very nice too.
For Discrete 1 and 2: Oehlbeck may get caught up in a tangent or two, but her presentations are incredibly clear and she's always willing to help if you have questions. The homework is taken almost direction from the weekly exams as well, which makes it easy both to study and learn the material she finds important. Definitely recommend her.
While the class itself is easy and consists mostly of high school material, She does not convey the material effectively, simply scrolling through the notes on her iPad. She runs her class like a high school teacher, going so far as confiscating cell phones. Also failed to announce a mandatory project due before the final until 5 days before it.
One of the best statistics teachers in the school. The way she runs the class sets you up for success. Clearly goes through all material before quizzes and tests, and her tests are very straight forward.
Professor Oehlbeck is by far the best instructor for discrete math. She knows her stuff inside and out. She also loves what she teaches, which is very important for an instructor to be effective.
She is one of the nicest professors I've ever had. She is willing to give some time to go over questions that you have but she doesn't like spending a long time on them. As far as the book goes, we were first assigned book problems but after that she started posting assignments online(not a bad thing). I highly advise taking her if you can!!
Best professor I have ever had. The class is easy and you learn the material thoroughly. She makes everything very simple so it is easy to follow along. She truly wants her students to learn the material and also succeed in her class.
The class was alright.
She is crystal clear about how to get an A in her class. Literally, if you pay attention, you will get an A. I just wish she covered more about the theory of what we were doing instead of just teaching us how to do it.
Professor Oehlbeck is a fantastic teacher, she definitely cares about her student's grades and will make sure the entire class understands what's being taught before moving on. She stops using the textbook halfway through the course, but it doesn't really matter, as the book can be found online as a free pdf. She even tells the class this.
Explains everything very clearly. Grades fairly. Homework is easy and is exactly like the quizzes. Textbook barley used and can be found online easily.
NEVER EVER TAKE HER ONLINE COURSE. SHE DOES NOT PROVIDE SUFFICIENT EXPLANATION, ALL SHE DOES IS PROVIDE A VIDEO OF HERSELF DOING LIKE ONE OF EACH KIND OF PROBLEM FROM THE GIVEN TOPIC. EVERYTHING IS ALL OVER MYCOURSES IT WAS MESSY, SOME VIDEOS WERE EVEN MISNAMED. And yes, I'm real mad. The tests are that hard though, EXCEPT FOR THE FINAL
Great class online! Videos were crystal clear! Not too much work. Learned a lot!
I had to take this Discrete Math Class Online and I think it was more of a poor format for a math class than anything. She seemed really helpful and willing to work with us but she had a hard time getting across the lessons to us in a clear way online. I wish I had her for a regular class because she seemed like a much better teacher in person.
She is one of my favorite professors so far. Everything that we need to know is explained clearly, which made it very easy for me to do well in the class. Also a very fast grader. Sometimes quiz grades would be posted before I even got to my car. Accommodating to scheduling problems, and you can always attend class at a different time if needed.
Great class. Best math teacher I've ever had. Her lectures are extremely clear and her home works are very easy. If you're confused she will stop to help you. She's been doing this for a long time and it's clear that she's got a good pace set. If you're worried about your math skills and have the option to take her class, do it. She will help.
Carol is easily the best math professor I've ever had. She is super clear in her lectures and will make sure you understand everything before moving on. Her homework is simple, straightforward and exactly like the quizzes and tests (even the final). She gives ample opportunity for extra credit and very obviously cares about her students, take her!
The professor teaches variety of course topics well to students. she provides examples on how to solve particular mathematical problems. She only gives one homework assignment each week. If you show up to every class prior to each exam date, you will receive like 5 bonus points. The professor can be strict on students' participation in class.
DON'T TAKE HER ONLINE CLASS! Take her class to person.
Phenomenal professor. She's a hilarious, inspirational and wonderful teacher that really cares about her students, and she is passionate about the subject and helping kids succeed. She grades tests quickly - the grade will almost always be up within 30 minutes. Professor Oehlbeck made the classes fun, which in turn made the subject fun to learn.
A very sweet woman, goes a little fast during class but if you miss something she's more than willing to sit down with you outside of class and help you understand. Make sure to show up to class because she gives bonus points on quizzes for perfect attendance, final exam included.
Hands down the best professor you can get for this course! She explains topics very well and always had time for questions. If you do poorly with Carol as your professor, it is simply because you did not try at all. Go to class and you will get lots of extra bonus points. You can tell that she cares about her students.
I had Carol my freshman year and she was a great teacher. I'm not very good at math usually, but everything she taught made sense and it was enjoyable to be in class too. Tons of extra credit opportunities (just come to class every day), and the exams are just like the homework.
Lectures are nice and well written. If you are struggling with the material talk to her after class she is willing to help. The weekly quizzes are just like the homeworks so just practice those problems and you'll be fine.
Great at explaining topics, very thorough. She makes sure you understand the reasoning and method behind the math, and is available outside of class if you need any extra help. Also, if you have perfect attendance for a chapter, you get bonus points on that exam!
Had to pay $60 for "tophat" which is a glorified kahoot, and she doesn't seem to want to change to something more efficient and accessible for her students. Furthermore, when people ask her questions, most of the time she doesn't understand them and other people have to answer for her because she's bad at explaining. Otherwise fine I guess
Carol likes teaching, and it shows. Discrete Math is a fairly simple subject, but when it does get to the tough subjects, she explains them quite well. In addition, she has a treasure trove of Khan Academy-esque videos on the student portal to use for any late night cram sessions. These were really helpful. Great teacher. Still has to ditch TopHat.
This woman is a machine. She provides a clear schedule for homework, tests, exams, and sticks to it. When you hand in anything, you'll have your grade back in a couple of hours. Her lectures are excellent, and she gives extra credit for attendance. No curveballs on tests or exams. If you want an A, you can get it. She's the gold standard
She's not the absolute worst, but she's also not the best teacher. She breezes right through topics, which makes it hard to write down everything and still understand what's going on. I had to re-copy my notes from the slides she posted and extra online resources, so I taught myself most of the time.
Had her so my Freshman discrete math class. Hands-down, one of the best math professors at RIT! Her lectures are easy to understand , she follows the syllabus down to a T (so no surprises), and she is more than willing to help answer question before or after class, and during her office hours! She also offers multiple extra credit opportunities!
I only recommend taking her class if you have a good base in algebra. I came into her class with a very poor understanding of math and found it hard to keep up. Her lectures were okay, but she was hard to talk to outside of class. I had a very hard time completing all of her work, as she assigns a ridiculous amount. She also is just is not nice.
Disrespectful and straight-up mean. Yelled at my class and marked down grades for 'going against her'. Do not take a class from this woman, you will regret the dry and condescending leacutres.
I'm glad that I already had good foundations in algebra before taking this class. She goes really fast at times and doesn't take into account how fast people can write. If you ask a question she tends to get visibly annoyed and tells you that you should already know this. Google is your best friend.
she is rude and condescending lol but an easy class if you show up
Im begging you to take different class. She is absolutely worst. Not sure how she got these rating, it should have been -1 rate. In my 2 years at RIT, the only worst Ive faced so far
Professor Oehlbeck was an awesome precalculus professor. Although the course itself was fast-paced and some of the concepts were difficult, she's willing to answer any questions outside of class, and help you deepen your understanding in various topics. As long as you show up to the lectures and review the materials, you should be able to succeed.
literally just a mean person and a horrible online teacher. do not take her online classes
If you pay attention her class is great. When she starts a new topic she assumes you know nothing, which is super helpful. She tells you when tests are weeks in advance, and stuck to the syllabus perfectly. I would definitely recommend her.
Absolutely awful. Not the first time I've taken college-level Pre-Calc, but definitely the worst. She was rude to students and had absolutely no knowledge of how to run an in-person class. For the first half of the semester, she spent the first 20 minutes of class complaining about how students weren't coming to class. Would never recommend it.
Her MyCourses gets extremely messy by the end of the semester and hard to navigate. She gives little to no feedback on exams and quizzes, just how many points you got off. I asked her for more materials to study because the online textbook just wasn't doing it for me and neither was SI sessions and she gave me an old textbook. Very boring lectures.
She does a very good job at making it clear what you are to learn and how to be effective at that thing.
I don't dislike her. She's nice, sometimes. I never ask her questions because she makes it twice as confusing. It feels like everything on the tests is in a different language, but it's not a work heavy class so if you prefer studying over actual work, she's the professor for you.
Lectures were very boring, but the class material was not very difficult to understand. She gives quizzes extremely frequently, but you can make them up if you miss class. All homeworks and assessments were on mycourses, so no need to pay for an external tool or textbook.
Homework was consistent with just one assignment due a week on Sunday, and she provided the work and notes so no textbook was needed. Lectures were incredibly boring and hard to sit through for the full amount of time, the myCourses setup was very disorganized, and email communication is minimal and hard to get anything meaningful out of it.
Prof. Oehlbeck is nice, but her lectures are long and do not always cover what is on the homework. Be prepared to watch review videos. There is a quiz or exam almost every class, but you can make them up if you miss. Emailing her is pointless. Make a study group with some classmates. Do NOT pay for the textbook, you most likely won't use it.
It may just be because my class was at 8AM, but this prof usually has a bad attitude. She often gives snarky remarks when you ask a simple question, or ask her to repeat something. Lectures are a snooze fest. Gives in class quizzes frequently, so be prepared for those, and the class isn't too difficult.
