You don't really need to attend lecture. Half the people didn't and only showed up for the review. She is really passionate about dance and some of the movies are interesting. Personally, I really enjoyed the class. For someone who is not artistically inclined, this class was an easy A and a quick way to get the fine arts requirement out of the way

shes very passionate about dance! im not a dance major / interested in dance whatsoever but she taught it well. must attend some performances but those are fine. two papers, midterm, and final. fell asleep quite a bit but got a B. lectures arent super mandatory but go to review sessions, theyre helpful!

She's extremely helpful, however the review sessions no longer cut it since people were missing lecture and just going to the review. Attendance is important, but the subject matter is really quite captivating. I'm not a dance major, but I was crazy about this class. On the last day she received a standing ovation.

Very easy class. Just get the review notes from somebody who already took the class. Her tests are multiple choice!! 2 papers that are BS and 4 concerts. tickets altogether cost me $80. LECTURE CAN GET BORING!!

You can definately tell that Press is enthusiastic about the subject she's teaching, enough to permeate the energy onto students. I really wanted to learn how to dance after I took her class. Videos are fun! Everything on the study guide is on the midterm and final. Both have 50 MC questions.

Excellent teacher! Passionate about Dance. Class is really easy only a midterm, final and one paper(2 pages long). Attend 2 concerts and that's it. She gives you the study guide for the midterm and final. Attendance is neccessary cause she gives you all the info! but its a good class and an easy grade! She is so crazy but in all honesty, I had fun taking this class. I think her craziness mostly made it entertaining, but she is so passionate about dance and the material was actually interesting. Videos were everyone's nap time. Take notes into your study guide and the class will be a breeze. Easy A and you have fun.

nice lady, easy class, can get an A if you know whats on the study guides, very straight forward midterm and final. have to go to 2 concerts and write one paper. gets fairly interesting after the first few lectures, but lectures are really long (2 hrs) so can get tedious..

overall, this class was pretty easy. but it did get boring cause lectures are about 2 hours long. midterm, final, 2 concerts, and one 2 page paper. easyyyy classs! press is a wonderful teacher and makes class pretty interesting. i would definitely recommend this class

She is VERY passionate about dance. She's kind of crazy at times but it's a good thing. She really cares about her students. The class is fun if you take it with a bunch of friends. I LOVED the concerts. 1 midterm, 1 final. Very good class to fulfill arts requirement. Highly recommended.

Very easy class. There was a midterm, 2page paper and a final. There are study guides, just fill those out during lecture. The only bad thing is you have to pay around $70 for all the dance shows you have to go to.

Carol Press is absolutely insane...and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. This is a really easy and simple class. I actually didn't find the lectures too boring and really liked the videos. Take it for the easiest A of your college career. You don't even have to go to lecture, just get the study guide from someone.

I took this class in Spring 2009. At first, I thought DR. Press was a little strict and but as we progressed through the quarter I came to enjoy her and her class. The performances were pricey, but fun. As long as you attend lecture and read, you will do fine on the exam. I recieved a D on the midterm,an A on the final and I got a B in the class

Press is completely crazy but that's what makes her special and interesting. the class is ridiculously easy. all you need to do is fill in your study guide, memorize all the terms and you'll be fine. the questions on the test are so simple. The 2 page paper is the easiet essay you'll have to write at UCSB

Literally went to class for the miderm and the final, and the 2/3 dance performances, and got a A- in the class. Guessed on half of the questions on the final exam. I did do some of the reading though. A good class for freshman - easy A. Defs don't have to go to class, just do the reading!

Carol is the most caring and helpful individual I have ever met. Her classes are full of fun and interactive material. She is funny, and has tons of energy so the 2 hour long class seems to be just an hour. She is very dedicated to her work and knows what she is talking about with the utmost confidence. study the class as a story! not just facts!

Fun class to attend, though sometimes it's hard to sit in lecture for 100 minutes straight. Tests are MC and very easy; do the study guide and you'll get an A. The mandatory concerts are a bit expensive, but worth it

Dr. Press is crazy! She's good though. She's energetic, funny, and her outline makes studying simple. Class can be boring at times, but she supplements the material with several good activities!

She teaches like we're high schoolers, constantly shushing and disallowing cell phone use. Don't waste your time/money at the concerts. Just know the study guide.

Dr. Press is a little out there. She is a nice individual but she tends to go on tangents about her husband and other things about her personal life. I found the reading to be very boring although the concerts were fun. Overall it was a decent class.

Press's lectures were definitely a new experience. She often talked about irrelevant stuff. She almost made the subject interesting for me. You can pretty much choose to either read or go to lecture, they both have essentially the same content. Definitely an easy A.

This class was alright. Mrs. Press came across as neurotic at times but she was an excellent lecturer and overall nice person. The material the class covered was pretty interesting. This class is easy but not as easy as everyone says. You need to attend lecture for iClicker points. No need to buy the book. I just did the study guide which you can find online & never did the reading and got a B. As long as you study the study guide its possible to get an A. Take it for an easy GE.

This class is an easy A but there were a bunch of readings and it could get pretty tedious. Her lectures are important because many test questions are based on those notes. One midterm and one final. Not cumulative. Easy GE credit.

Easiest class I've ever taken. Didn't do the reading, got an 85% on the midterm and a 98% on the final and ended up with an A+ in the class. Have to go to a few concerts which are pretty boring but normally only like a hour or an hour and a half. Go to class for iclickers but thats about it. No homework, just midterm and final. Easy class, take it!

Least stressful class I have taken at UCSB. Dance performances are expensive but enjoyable. Offers a midterm and final study guide. There are no trick questions. A fair class, take it for GE's and you will not be disappointed.

She's really caring and wants to be interactive with her class. She walks down aisles while lecturing and makes sure no one is clicking anyone else in as well as making sure people aren't on their phones. She's prety ditzy and kinda weird but it's not a bad thing.

Carol was an amazing professor. I am terrible at dancing and have almost no interest in it, but her passion and weirdness made the class interesting! It was probably my favorite all quarter. She is extremely organized and on top of grades and powerpoints. EASY A if you put in about an hour before the test to read over your class notes. go to class

The class is not hard if you actually read the textbook. Attendance is mandatory. The professor is eccentric but well-meaning. I found the subject to be interesting but lecture can get boring. Don't expect to put little effort in the class and get an A though.

Carol Press is awesome! She is very approachable and nice. Easiest class ever however must do all the readings. Her questions on the tests are easy if you have done readings. iclicker makes attendance mandatory and must attend 3 dance shows which cost money.

if I could go back and not take this class I definitely would... not a great lecturer. and uses iclicker as an attendance checker rather than a learning device. also the class costs over $100 (winter 2014) for the books and the mandatory dance concerts which sucks. pretty easy class though

Press is a great professor, however, this class is not an easy A as it used to be. Even after doing all the readings more than once, some parts of her tests are confusing, mainly due to the precise wording. Spending almost $100 in concert tickets and sitting through all the concerts only to answer a few questions on each test is ridiculous.

I absolutely loved this class! I'm a Biology major so taking an easy non-Bio class every once in a while is important to me. This class was so relaxing. There was a video on some type of dance almost every lecture. One midterm, a final and both are completely multiple choice. Attendance is mandatory because of iClicker but worth it!

Lectures were interesting and are mandatory due to iClicker questions. There was "required" reading but I didn't even buy the book. Borrow it from the library and skim the pages she mentions in class. Having to pay for the 4 required dance shows is a bummer but they were all interesting. I enjoyed this class. Carol Press shares a genuine passion for the subject, which in turn makes lectures much more fun and engaging. She also genuinely cares about her students. She wants the class to do well. All you have to do is: 1. show up to class (iClicker questions daily) 2. take good notes from what she says 3. read the textbook 4. keep on openmind

I've take ballet for 12 years and this class was honestly just too easy. If you have any background at all in dance you'll recognize names, dates, and forms of dance. Otherwise just to the readings and you'll be fine. There are just two tests (multiple choice) and they're pretty straightforward. Overall, super easy GE, and Press is great.

This class is great. There are no assignments and the final & midterm are super easy. You have to go to some dance shows & the tickets are like $20 or less, which kind of sucks. Overall, it was the easiest A I've ever gotten and pretty enjoyable even though Carol is kind of spastic.

Press seemed a little uptight, but you'll never have to interact with her. Participation is 10% of your grade, so you have to go to class. The class is two multi choice tests, participation, and being present at two dance shows. The class should be an easy A if you do 15 minutes of reading a week. I can't believe people actually got less than an A

If you're a dance major taking this class it's the easiest class ever because she helps you with the midterm and final. If you're not a dance major and are taking this class, make friends with one who is.

She makes you sit the in the lecture hall the entire time to the last minute of class. She doesn't allow you to take pictures of the powerpoints and she speaks really fast at times. She is an okay teacher overall and the midterm and final were really easy. She shows lots of dancing videos which can put you to sleep.

This class is best described as a history class about dance bc you will have to memorize names, dates, and terms. Her powerpoints are very vague so take good notes based on her lectures, videos, and the reading which will make studying for the midterm and final much easier. If you do the reading and pay attention, class should be no problem.

There is a video almost every lecture. They're sometimes boring (depending on how interested you are in dance), although I highly recommend taking notes on them! There is a chapter of reading assigned every week. It's not heavy reading but I recommend taking mild notes, especially on the sections/dancers she points out in class.

Easy A. The only two tests in the class are the midterm and final. If you want to get an A, read and go to class. Also, there is no writing. Overall, you won't have to put too much effort into getting an A.

Easy GE. You definitely need to read the book and go to class, her lectures are fine, videos take up more than half the time. The concerts are kind of a pain, but not that big of a deal. Tests are easy but weighed heavily, if you don't do good on the tests you won't do good in the class (the final is worth 50%). Don't take the exams lightly. STUDY!

I was told by so many that this was such an easy GE, but after going to the first two days of lecture I beg to differ. You have to buy an iClicker to prove mandatory attendance and attend more than 3 dance productions (each costing more than $20). I dropped the class today because there's no way I'm spending so much money on a GE with a 50% final

It's easy to tell that Dr. Press is passionate about the subject, which made lectures more interesting. If you pay attention in class and skim the book, you should do well. The final alone was 50% of the grade so make sure you don't procrastinate on studying. The midterm was another 30%, and lecture attendance / concert attendance were each 10%.

I absolutely loved this class as an art GE. Dr. Press makes my day so much better with her quirky lectures and fun material. Study your class notes hard and you will do great on the exam and make sure to read the book and take notes as you go along!

Dance 45 is a very easy GE. As long as you copy down all notes and pay attention in lecture you'll do good. I bought the book but didnt use it once. I skimmed over my notes before the midterm and only missed one question. However, if you dont want to spend money dont take this class. You have to get an iclicker and attend performances which are $20

Press is a good professor and really knows a lot about dance. Class is easy, show up, take notes, read your textbook and you'll get an A. Class is mostly watching videos so it always goes by fast.

Press obviously knows what she's talking about and is passionate. Unfortunately, it is still an art GE, and it is often difficult to stay focused on her lectures. The textbook isn't really necessary, but you HAVE to pay attention in class because all that stuff goes directly onto the midterm and final (which are 30% and 50% of your grade).

This was a super easy class IF you show up, pay attention & take good notes. The powerpoints are only given to you in lecture so you have to go, but they are basically a study guide. Dance concerts are a pain but interesting. The textbook isn't necessary, she shows videos in class that have the same info. I enjoyed this class more than expected.

She doesn't put any of her powerpoints online so you pretty much have to go to class to get the material. She says you need a textbook but you really don't, she gives all the info you need in lecture. Midterm and final were fine as long as you studied the night before. Professor Press was cool and nice. SHOW UP TO LECTURE. She uses iClickers to take attendance. The midterm is 30% and the final is 50% of your grade but they are easy if you study your lecture notes. Do not bother with the book because it is repetitive of lecture. The thing I hate is the 3 mandatory dance performances. I spent over $60 on those!

Not a hard class. Def need to be in class for iClickers and class notes. Tests are usually based on class notes but reading is prob recommended if you want an A. Be sure to watch out for key names that appear in the notes like George Balanchine.

For the final there were so many people and dances to memorize and you would need to know composer and choregrapher- sometimes the year as well. the midterm was fine, i studied the night before but i show up, pay attention and take good notes. i wud rather pay 60 for concerts than writing an essay on the concert so it's worth it!

Overall not a hard class. Dr. Press is very kind but the lectures are not very helpful if you do want to learn about dance history since they are mainly points that will be tested on exams. If you are an international student try to read the textbook according to schedule or you may not have enough time. Exams are fair if you catch up with reading.

Dr. Press wants all of her students to get an A in this class and it's not hard to do if you show up to lecture and take good notes. You don't need to read any of the textbook if you show up to lecture because she covers everything you need to know there. 3 dance concerts make up 10% of your grade and iClicker scores account for 10% too.

Dr. Press always tried to make the lecture interesting. She assigns readings, but they are not necessary to do. Attendance for the lecture is pretty important because every lecture there is an iclicker question, which you get points for. Finals and midterms are easy as long as you study for them and take good notes in the lecture.

Dr. Press is a sweetheart and class is easy if you follow along in lectures. the final was significantly harder than the midterm. those two are 80% of grade which is heavy.

She's really deserves more like a 3.8 general rating. She does her job well but there is a large amount of material covered. All test are mc questions, but contain all of the above, both b and c, and none of the above answers. If you don't study/listen in lecture you won't pass, the test aren't east to guess on. If you study ALOT, the test are easy

Would recommend this classes but you definitely have to go to lecture. The reading is totally unnecessary because everything you need to know is on power point. Everyone complains about the concerts but they are super easy (you literally walk 3 min from the transit center and you're there) .

Easy class to get an A in if you pay attention. All multiple choice. The downside is attending dance shows which cost around $60, but it was a fun experience for me with a friend in the class. Her final is based on post-midterm one material. She doesn't post powerpoints online. Tries her best to involve the class. She mixes videos in for a break.

I loved the way she handled the transition into online. A lot of video based questions. Everything is through the videos and lectures she posts. Very clear grading.

I loved Dr. Press & this class (taken Fall 2018)! This is an easy A if you just pay attention & take good notes & I definitely recommend taking it as a GE. It legitimately took me 20 minutes (out of the allotted couple of hours) to finish the final exam.

Her lecture is very clear and straightforward, and the exams are mainly from the original lecture points, which makes this class easy. That also means you will definitely fail if you don't listen to lectures.

Super easy GE credit. Took this online for fall quarter and easiest class I took. Grade is based on 4 tests, but each test is easy and open notes. Questions come directly from the lectures so just make sure you take good notes.

Press is a great choice for a GE or dance class! She has detailed lectures and only content from assigned work is present on exams (not much). Exams are very straightforward, so I would recommend reading all the content she requires and being prepared before the tests. Tests are totally doable, and TAs are helpful. Super helpful through email too.

Easiest class you will ever take in your life. Readings are unnecessary, all you really need to do is watch the short lectures she posts every week, and the tests are word for word from the powerpoint slides. Definitely recommend taking this class as a GE or as a GPA booster.

Taken spring 2021, class was async. This class was extremely easy! There are 4 midterms, each worth 25% of your overall class grade, no homework/projects. The week before each midterm, the TA would post a review video. I would watch the review video then immediately take the midterm and I got an A+ in the class. Take this class!!!

Class is pretty easy to follow just keep track of the syllabus schedule. If you get behind you have to watch the lecture vids which are not too long but make sure to somewhat keep track. The midterms are non-cumulative so it is not as stressful too. Overall very good class choice.

Prof Press was a great teacher, her lectures were short and to the point. There are 4 non-cumulative quizzes and no final/midterm. Before every quiz there was a review session that was very helpful in summarizing the main points. Definitely sparked my interest in dance, can't wait to watch the UCSB ballerinas in the future!

Almost all the content on exams were in lectures and covered in review sessions. The class is a breeze if you keep up with the syllabus schedule and finish the readings and lectures on time. The class is really interesting and is a great GE class to take for arts if you're not that great at creative studies stuff. Easy A!

You have four exams for the quarter, and they are the only thing going into your gradebook. No homework. Lectures are short and straightforward. Exams are stress free since the review sessions before each one go over everything you need to know for the exam.

Very caring professor! Your grade depends on 4 exams + some concerts (we only has 2 this quarter). Didn't read the textbook and did well! Exams are directly from lectures so as long as you keep up with that and watch the videos assigned you can pass! Easy GE!

Grade is based on 4 tests and attendance at dance concerts. Concerts were amazing and glad this class assigned them. Tests are extremely east, the review session posted three days before has like every answer to the test. If you go to lectures test will be very easy.

i really like press, however you are graded by a few amount of things so if you miss something itll drop you A LOT. 80% of your grade is exams, 10% is iclicker, and 10% are the 4 dance concerts. its kind of a lot but i recommend it for the fine arts GE.

Professor clearly likes to do what she does. To improve: she claims she will let you out on time--then will go over by 2 minutes & complain ur packing, + the power points can be hard to follow since she uses several & they aren't the clearest. NOTE-if your class is in person you will have to attend live dance performances, some you have to pay for.

This professor is so kind and you can tell she is really interested in this stuff. You do have to attend three concerts but they were actually interesting. professor press is an extremely sweet and accomodating professor. her tests are online and the reflections are not graded harshly. i think her ta meredith canabiss is taking over her course after this past spring quarter, and i think she's going to keep the same format. great easy ge!
