crams notes down your throat. lectures are hand breaking. explains her powerpoint while you are racing to keep up with her notes she wants you to write down. this forces you to multi task which splits your attention. not a very good way to learn material. worksheet took me and my study partner 3 hours to do a 15 point genetics worksheet.
too many notes and her tests were hard! if you asked her to explain something, she will, but go on a rant of something else
you have to show up and take notes, but if you pay attention you'll do fine. plus, she's pretty funny if you actually talk to her.
The class is based off of her notes, not the book she trys to make sure you get what she believes is acurate infromation. If you dont take notes or show up you wont do good on the test. The tests are based off of the class notes.
Good teacher. If you are organized and can study off of the notes you will do fine with her.
WORST TEACHER EVER!!!! She teaches off of her notes yet still makes you buy the book. Many homework assignments were so badly done that I had to google stuff to find the answer as they were not in her lecture OR the book... Tests are all done based on her lectures. During lecture she often ventures off on rants. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!!!!!!
She is a helpful teacher. If you want to do well, come to class. Her tests are high school level but based off her notes. Easy A if you take notes and do some studying off the book. She teaches off power points but makes it fun.
Mrs. Rooker tests strictly off her notes. If you don't come to class, you have less of a chance of succeeding. Reading the book helps. She is really nice. Notetaking is excessive. She basically tells you what's on the test though and supplies a study guide, videos and optional homework which really helps.
This teacher is awsome, I love this class, and her lectures are very helpfull. Study the notes you take in class, and do the study guides, and i'll guarantee a good grade! she also stays in after class it you have questions. Every test has extra credit. There was only one homework assignment all year, which i got a 110% on, I reccomend this teacher
Amazing teacher. Extremely helpful/knowledgeable. Great sense of humor and the class is so fun to be in. Mrs. Rooker keeps the class interesting and I learned so much from her. Great great teacher. I recommend everyone take her if you are taking a bio class!
Good teacher. Clear. With her, you know what to expect. She tells you exactly what she wants from you and the work is quite doable. Just study and you will get good grades. Come to class! If you don't there's a good chance you won't do well. She's a really nice person and answers all questions.
I doubt her teaching skill at the first week of fall semester. She's helpful and doesn't mind if you want to repeat some of the materials. Attendance is important otherwise you can't do her home works and exams. Tons of home works. Take good notes and you'll pass her class
She is a good teacher and nice person. Extremely knowledgeable on on the subject. Her power point notes have little information on them, write fast cause she talks quite quickly! She cares about teaching and the students so that is a plus. Study for the tests off of the study guide, do the homework and term paper and you'll be fine.
Carol Rooker is an excellent teacher. Showing up to class, taking notes, and completing the study guide should warrant you an "A" or at least a "B." The study guides are the biggest help for the 5 tests (no final), and she is always open to answer questions. By the way you may hardly need the book because her lecture notes cover everything.
Great professor who puts a lot of effort and time into her lectures. The class was based off five tests, wish we would have had more work to practice. I also wish I would have passed. Overall a wonderful professor.
Rooker is an excellent professor. She tests directly off her lectures, so you don't even have to buy the textbooks. If you show up to class, take good notes, and study you will have no problem getting an A. She is great, I defiantly recommend her.
Mrs Rooker are faking my grade as i think shes not happy as i always get more than 100perc on all of her exam. she inputed a B on the system, i emailed her, and she seems not to care about the problem, i will definitely complaint this issue to the school on next fall. Disappointing much! She do not want to give her student an A!
She's really great. All of her tests are directly from her power points and she gives you study guides before the exams. I studied and easily got over 100% on every test. She cares about whether you're learning and is organized and willing to help. Thumbs up :]
Rooker is an excellent professor. She tests directly off her lectures
I love Ms. Rooker. She is genuinely interested in students' success. She will help you to finish her course strong from the beginning to the end. You don't need text book but you do need to attend her class everyday to catch up. In other words, if you do come to class everyday, you don't need to study for exams. It's based on her study guides/hwk.
I LOVE THIS TEACHER! this class has alot of material YES, but she is so nice and caring and you can tell that this is her passion.she is always willing to help and has come to class 2.5 hours early to help me understand the material better. She is amazing both as a teacher and a person. Anyone who says otherwise HAD to have done something wrong
THE MOST AMAZING TEACHER!Tests and hws are straight from lecture notes, so attendance is mandatory!Studied for the tests from the study guide and got As!She comes to class an hour before so you can ask questions about hw and study guide, she's always prompt to help and explains material as many times as you need!
She takes a difficult subject and makes it less difficult. She has put tons of her own time perfecting her lectures Example: during class if a couple ppl seem confused about a concept she makes a note in her huge binder to modify her lecture so the next class can better understand! Evry prof should model her. Seriously she is amazing!!
not take her
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. She's nice and even tries to crack a few jokes here and there. BUT, she cannot teach and does not explain anything. Be prepared to take LOTS of notes and not learn anything because you're too concentrated on trying to get everything written down. She creates large packets that don't come from the book from what she "teaches".
Rooker is good! TAKE GOOD NOTES! do the study guide before exam and you will do more than fine. accumulative grades and she always give abt 12 point extra credit for exams which is gddddddd.. i never get a gd grade on biology in high school but in this class i never get lower than A. GO ROOKER!
Great teacher! I set out to take this bio class just for credit but she somehow gets me interested in it! Be prepared to take a lot of notes(you have to take notes restlessly throughout the class) and digest the knowledge through reviewing them constantly. Once you do that, you will find the tests super easy. Plus her jokes are FUNNY!!!
Biology was my favorite subject. I used to get A's and B's on my tests in High School with out studying. Rooker's lectures are very hard to follow. Rooker then makes long homework packets that are not from your notes. Youhave to look up all of the answers online. I feel like I learned nothing! She offers little help due to her busy schedule.
You have to take notes every single class, lots of hw. There is 5 test, all which you have to study intensely for, if you want to succeed I suggest that you print out the studyguide and complete as you go, because there's lot of information she expects you to know. Her test are difficult to where thefill in the blank is easier than multiple choice
This is a great teacher! She makes sure to cover everything in lecture that is on the tests so if you didn't read you will still get the information. I suggest recording her lectures. I transcribed them which helped to solidify them in my mind and received an A. Didn't think I would like it but I enjoyed the class and learned a lot.
Good teacher, she can be pretty funny at times. She's extremely friendly and she'll answer any questions. The material is tough stuff, but she does her absolute best to make it as easy as she can.
Such a great teacher. I loved her class. Although it was a night class , I looked forward to it every week. She has a young soul and she knows her stuff. I aced every test by just reviewing the easy homework we were assigned. I'd take this class again with her. She's just great. oh and you don't need the textbook, her lectures are self explanatory.
The class involves LOTS of note taking, but she makes the notes herself and let's you copy word for word. Homework was mostly fill in the blank printouts. Tests can be tough. You must show up to every class for homework and notes, or it will affect your grade. She's very nice, funny, and passionate about Biology. One of the best teachers I've had.
Great teacher. Attendance is mandatory. Tests and HW based on lecture and book. Responds to all questions thoughtfully. responds to emails. 5 tests. The final is just the 5th test, and is not cumulative. Show up, listen, and take notes. provides VERY useful study guide for every test. Know everything on the study guide A on test
There's a lot of note-taking and the homework is usually based around the notes, she gives out study guides weeks before the test so as long as you review the study guide and attend class every week you should do well in the course.
moves really quickly, off course from syllabus, but really funny and makes learning fun
Her homework, lectures, and tests are all related; there are no surprises. I love the way she teaches! Very funny and gives interesting anecdotes that relate to the subject matter. She repeats a lot of things to make them stick so answering her questions will definitely bump you up a grade on her tests.
Ms. Rooker is an excellent teacher. Her lectures were filled with her jokes. Easygoing, encourages Q's, will gladly stop lecturing to address any Q's about anything. Total of 15 hmwk assignments of varying lengths, and 5 tests incl. the final all with extra credit. Study guides are comprehensive. Attendance used as incentive for grade nudges.
Science is not my strong suit, so getting a B is my fault. But if it weren't for Mrs. Rooker being a great teacher, I would've gotten something way worse. I made the mistake of not coming to her for help early in the semester, and got a D on the first test which screwed me. She did the best she could to help me, guided me, and I made it. Take her!
Mrs. Rooker is hilarious and made class fun and enjoyable. Exam outlines are a lifesaver, do those and you cant go wrong. She gives 10% extra credit on all her exams, even the final! Seemed rushed at times but was always willing to help and answer questions. Wish she taught A&P at DVC, would take her again in a heartbeat!
Take verbatim notes, answers for HW are from lecture and some common sense of subject. Read every chapter before class. Try to make a study group, or find studious people. Homework is essential and tests aren't hard IF you study both lecture notes, homework, & read text. Very demanding. But, she loves biology and is open to helping if asked.
I dont like how she lives off her powerpoint bc they're very messy to begin with & incomplete like she intended to write stuff on the board about it but got lazy about it when it came time thus verbally giving the info to the class which has you writing non-stop, my hand is cramping by the end of class because of all the note taking involved.
Mrs. Rooker is an excellent teacher, and is sometimes funny. You NEED TO TAKE NOTES or you will not pass. Study Guides are clear, and she thoroughly explains how tests go: multiple choice, short answers, and fill-ins. You'll need to study for the tests, everything is specific but straight from the notes.
She's a easygoing, fair, prof. Don't underestimate her tests, they seem like they will be easy an A but you do have to spend a good 3 days min to prepare for them. If you find the lectures aren't enough and need more help, reading the chapter in the book is very helpful too. Her office hour were late and never got a chance to go to them.
Carol is one of the best professors I have ever had and heres why: she cares about her students and she really wants her students to do well. She is very clear about what will be on the tests and will give you homework and study guides to prepare you for the tests! Come to class because notes are essential for the homework and the tests.
I LOVED Mrs. Rooker! If you are looking for a challenging class, this is the one for you. Mrs. Rooker really makes you work for your grade. This class is very difficult, however, as long as you use the study guide, you will definitely get an A! Highly recommend this class!!
I actually really really liked Ms Rooker. She is crystal clear and what she says verbatim is on the homework which is verbatim on the test. If you have a good memory this class is great for you otherwise if you want an A I wouldn't recommend because there is so much information to remember basically word for word. Extra credit on all tests though.
loved Rooker and her class. she isn't that hard and i did not put too much work but I learned so much and she knows what she is talking about. she spends a lot of unpaid time trying to give her class the most accurate info. Book isn't needed. BE ON TIME AND SHOW UP TO CLASS. there are hw packets based on the notes but they are great study tools.
She is well teaching and carrying class. However, her class is heavy, you may need to take notes everything she mentioned during class, though useless if you are not majoring bio world. Not easy to pass.
One of my favorite teachers this semester, but you really need to take good notes to pass this class. The textbook is super cheap (I don't know if she'll ever change it) and while it would be nice to have, I've been doing very well without it. Has her own website, you'll want to check it about twice a week or so to stay on top of the homework.
take good notes and the homework and tests will be really easy. study guides for each test and they're very similar to the test so study that and you'll be fine.
Mrs. Rooker was a solid teacher. Her lectures were quite dense, but they were helpful for our homework and tests. One thing to remember when taking her class is taking notes. Make sure to listen during her lectures and take notes because all the tests will be based on the lectures. As long as you listen and take notes during lecture, you will pass
Honestly, I have always been good at biology so I am not sure if this was just me, but I do not think her class was that difficult. All you have to do is take notes, do the homework which is based off the notes, and then use the study guides for the tests. You definitely have to show up to class as she takes attendance, but she makes lectures fun
She is awesome! Knows her stuffs, but be ready to study. I would like to take her again
Mrs. Rooker was a better bio teacher than my AP Bio professor in high school. As long as you take good notes and attend every lecture, you will do good. This class definitely requires studying, but it's mostly memorizing the material. She is extremely knowledgeable and has office hours where she answers any question. Homework wasn't that bad.
Class has 5 exams that are all directly out of lecture notes. You need to show up to class bc she takes attendance and your hw won't count if you're late. Hw should not take you more than 2 hours to do. You actually have to study to pass this class. Freshman failed this class or got bad grades bc they didn't try. Tests are easier than study guide.
This class can be very easy if you just show up and take notes. She does not post her power points so you have to go to class. There is a lot of homework but it is easy b/c it is straight from her lecture and textbook. If you show up late your homework is not accepted so get to class on time. Over all a really easy class if you study and take note
She is really protective about her power slides, you gotta be in class to take notes. Skip class you are going to be left behind. She does not use canvas she uses her own website which is kind of messy and confusing. Does not accept late homework. I wish she was more flexible about students missing class because of emergencies happen but she's not.
It is really dumb how she doesn't put the slides on Canvas, or use Canvas in general, her website is so unhelpful. She could of at least used wix or something. Be prepared to memorize and use quizlet ALOT. However, I had around 3 seizures(epileptic) this past semester and she was very sympathic.
She doesn't use canvas. She is not good at organizing things, and she makes everything hard to find. She wouldn't give you lecture notes. If you want to check you current grade you have to email her. Her lecture is great, but getting a good grade in her class is difficult.
She does not use canvas at all and her lectures are super long and she rushes through it. Her tests had so much information at about 70 questions per test. She also uses proctor exam during the test where it records you taking the test. She would not share the slides and if anyone tried to suggest helpful change, she would shut it down immediately.
She's a good prof if u take really good notes. Write down EVERYTHING. The tests are hard but very possible and easier if you thoroughly study everything. There are about 7-10 extra credit points on each test. Easy A if you are an extremely hard working student. DOnt take if ur not ready to go hard on this class.
Fairly easy professor. Write down all the notes and do the study guides before the test and you are well on your way to an A. I'm not even sure if a textbook was required. The class is very boring though. It's also awkward that she doesn't use canvas, and somewhat annoying that she refuses to upload her lecture slides. She's very kind though.
She doesn't use the textbook, and everything is in her lectures so you really just have to show up because she doesn't post her slides. This makes the homework very easy, it's just a small grind (maybe around 1-4 hours a week). If you actually study the study guide, you'll ace her tests. Ask questions if something's unclear, she knows her stuff.
Wonderful professor, caring and funny. She wants you to pass. You need to show up and take notes or get the notes off a classmate or you won't be able to do the HW. All multiple-choice exams and drops your lowest score, no final as she doesn't do cumulative exams. If you're looking for an easy-A, this is probably not it but incredibly worthwhile.
Very nice, somewhat funny, there is a textbook for class but she never required us to use it, at most one homework per chapter and sometimes none, grades fairly, test are all multiple choice besides the extra credit, there was always extra credit available on test, my one complaint is she doesn't use canvas
She records the entire classroom, but the recordings are just for her. Complains about being underpaid. Doesn't use Canvas, instead uses her own sketchy website which looks like it's from the 90s. Overly protective of her lecture material so if you don't write everything down in class, you'll never see it again. 1 second late to class = 0 on HW.
She doesn't have canvas and has an outdated website where she posts only homework because she's protective over her notes and will not share them on her website (So you're in bad luck if you haven't finished a slide or missed class). Be prepared to write a lot because she does not show mercy to slow writers!
Professor Rooker wants you to do well. She is very caring towards her students and even though she doesn't use canvas, her website is easy to follow and navigate. After every lecture there is a quite a bit of homework so prep time for that. Her lectures are very straight forward and memorization is key for tests! Challenging class, but can succeed.
Professor Rooker communicates what she wants extremely easily. The classes were entirely lectures, and there were five exams for the semester, so your grade could easily be saved. If you show up to class, you'll be able to get the lectures. If you want to pass, do the study guides. I only studied them and they were pretty much just the test.
I absolutely loved taking this course! She doesn't use canvas but her website is easy to navigate. Be on time as she doesn't accept late hw. She doesn't share her slides but if you email/ask her, she'll be happy to try to find another student from class to share their notes! Her exams are not too hard but only if you study! Pro tip: Study Groups!
Professor Rooker was very straightforward and I enjoyed her class. She helped me a lot when I got COVID halfway in. Tests and assignments were easy as long as you took notes. Has a good sense of humor. Very serious about being late though. As long as you send your homework to her through email before you get there she will still take it.
She will not let you turn in homework if you are late. She does not let you take pictures of her slides. She uses her website, which I found easy to use just by going to her own profile. She is a nice professor and I would recommend making sure to write all of her lecture slides, do the study guides, complete all homework, and you should be fine.
I really enjoy Professors Rookers teaching all the answers to the homework will be from her slides while she doesn't let to take pictures she will always go back if you're still writing and will stay after and allow you copy more at your pace. She gives study guides for all her exams and they show everything that will be on the exam.
So she gives good notes and is good at lecturing but the homework can sometimes be 10-16 pages long. There are quizzes at the beginning of EVERY LAB and you read the lab book and do the lab practically on your own with no guidance. Right after you think you can relax after taking your exam BOOM another exam. Only take is biosc is ur lifes passion.
Ms. Rooker is a great professor! I taken a General Biology class with her @ the College of Alameda. Everything about her teaching made biology extremely easy to understand. She was a great instructor. She gave tidbits about how certain veggies consumed, especially the ones in the Nightshade family, would promote the experience of specific aches.
i have never disliked a teachers teaching style more. first of all if you are just 1 minute late she will not give any credit on the homework due that day which is especially frustrating because most of her assignments are about 10 pages long and take hours. uses dodgy website. doesn't post lectures and doesn't give grace time for notes. do not do.
Mrs. Rooker is very kind and cares about her students. She has office hours available too. However, she does not except late work (even a minute late) unless you email it beforehand. The average for the tests was around 50%, there is NO curve. She does not post lecture slides. If you work hard and pay attention you can pass. Study & ask for help!!
Overall is a great individual but definitely has a lot of information and the lectures meaning that their exams or quizzes are just overloaded with information! I had to study for almost 2 weeks for each test and I didn't even pass the class. Most of the people in my class ended up with a D as their final grade.
She is a good professor who provides everything you need in order to pass this course. The material is heavy so be prepared to study hard for each exam, her study guides are also very similar to the exams. Quizzes and hw every week. She also doesnt post the notes, so attendance is required.
not good teacher horrible teaching style most people dropped out within the first month.
Professor Rooker is a great teacher! is strict but not in a mean way just in a you respect me and I'll respect you way. very funny and engaging! the homework and the exams can be tough but if you put in effort by just writing out the answers on the study guide you'll be fine!
Dropped out of the class. You must be in class early or directly on time in order to get homework in. One minute late and will not take the homework. Class isn't difficult, the professor is. She uses her own website. She'll warn you about people saying negative things on RMP, but I promise I make many many good reviews on profs. just. not. her.
Lots of hw and you print it out and do it on paper. She doesnt put due dates on canvas, but on her own website. You finish an exam and think you can relax from studying, next week theres another one. Tells you to use lecture notes for the hw but the answers are worded completely different and you just end up googling them anyway. Good person tho.
