good teacher...gives all notes on handouts..i didn't even need to buy the book

She's not the greatest teacher. She frequently gets her own problems wrong. It's quite funny. But the class is super easy. Lot's of homework though. Tests are easy.
really awsome professor!
The class is easy only because the tests are alomst exactly like the review. She is kinda annoying to listen to but its worth it becuase you should make a pretty good grade.
She in unclear.. Very unclear!! However.. Tests are almost identical to the review. Otherwise it would have been difficult.
The quizzes are take home, and the tests are relatively easy.
She is not a good teacher. Says the words "Basically" and "Essentially" about 30 times a class. However, Quizzes are take home and easy, and Tests are very approachable if you have a grasp on the material. She sucks as a teacher but getting an "A" in her class isn't too hard.
She is awesome...it is basically a repeat of high school precal, but she is a hilarious teacher...with dry humor. She is always willing to help you out. I missed 2 weeks of her class because I was sick in the hospital. I emailed her and told her why and she let me make up all the quizzes and tests...AND gave me her own personal notes...really cares

I didn't like her. I took only one class, but I found her to be a little bland. Did not hold my interest, but she wasn't difficult.
Extremely easy class... take home quizzes, test right off the review. don't bother doing the homework.
This class is a joke. It really doesn't matter if you turn homework in on time or a week late, you still get the same grade. Quizzes are take home, and tests are almost a carbon copy of the review. Overall, boring.
Very good math teacher. She is willing to help at any time. Quizzes are take home and I found I learned more from them. Homework is mandatory and do bother doing it, every point counts especially if you need it. Tests are a carbon copy of the quizzes only as to type of problem. I found a lot of the homework problems on the tests. Nice lady, cares.
This lady needs to get a life, seriously. Her policy of never rounding grades is ridiculous. Do everything you can to get into Newell instead of Seets, you'll be glad you did
Really easy class. If you took Pre Cal in high school, you should get an A because this class is more basic. There is a lot of homework but it is only 2% of your grade. Tests are easy. She is really nice and willing to help
Extremely easy course, she even puts the notes up online so you really don't have to attend if you don't want to. If you want an easy A take this class.
shes awful. dont let people fool you into thinking shes so easy, because shes not. she takes off FOR EVERYTHING, and if youre doing poorly she doesnt care at all. no sympathy and rude when you ask for help. good luck.
very nice and easy teacher.. take her!!!! u wont regret it!
voice trembles nonstop making her sound extremely nervous, not very helpful in explaining the hard topics, rambles, curves tests though, class is easy if you took calculus in high school, tolerates doing other work or homework in class
She is very helpful and works well with athletes!
Very nice lady and goes through every step of the problem. She goes fast but will give you answers to take home quizzes if you go to her office hours. I took calculus in high school and failed it but I got a 100 on my first test because her reviews are exactly the same.
She is very nice and helpful. Does hw and quiz questions in class if you ask! Go to office hours and she will also let you check your quiz. Goes through every step to make sure you know what you are doing. I did well but took cal 1 in high school..
If you are at all intimidated by Calculus take this teacher. She explains things very well and very rarely leaves out steps when she shows her work. Honestly, the best math teacher I have ever had. She gives weekly quizzes, but she will give you the answers if go to office hours. I can't understand why anyone would rate her poorly.
Great teacher, helps to ensure you get the best grade by the end of the course. Highly recommend her.
She is a great teacher if you are afraid to take MATH take this teacher please! She is an amazing person you will love her!
She moves at a very fast pace, has trouble hearing our questions, and the majority of the class is lost. Wouldn't recommend getting her
I actually look forward to this class every day. Sit in the front of the class as you'll be able to pick up on her humor. One of the nicest people you'll ever meet, and if you go in during office hours its like having your own personal lecture. Taking her again next semester for sure!
super easy class. she doesn't collect the homework and posts all of her notes online. tests are exactly like the review and she's always available if you need extra help!
really easy class. the review are the same as the test. no hw. just take home quizzes.
Best teacher to take for Calc2, homework was completion and her answers are posted online. Take home quizzes aren't too hard and the tests are just like the reviews. Seriously. you are going through unnecessary pain if you take a different teacher.
Nice old lady. Super easy (albeit boring) class, tests are straight from the review essentially. Attendance is mandatory but it is a sign in sheet so you can just get other people to sign you in. I recommend taking her.
TAKE HER! she's an easy A
Seets is not a good teacher. If you come into SMU with a basis in calculus/pre-calc. you will be fine. If you don't, Seets dosen't really build a foundation for you. Instead, she builds confusion and a feeling of total loss in the subject she is trying to teach you in. Office hours are not helpful and she is often wrong in class.
Seets is great. In class notes might be a bit confusing sometimes, but if you go to her office hours and get to know her, she'll make sure you understand the material. Sweet, old lady.
She is super sweet, and super EASY. If you can't make an A or (worst case scenario) B+ in this class, you're probably doing something wrong. She may make mistakes in lectures every now and then but otherwise it is a pretty chill class. Just do your work. I am looking forward for cal3!
Seets is not difficult, reviews are same as the test. Do the take home quizzes. Class if EXTREMELY boring, good luck listening to her groan for an hour and a half.
Boring professor, easy A. Nuff said.
This class was a breeze. She speaks so slow that we went over maybe 2 or 3 pages of material per day which wasn't almost anything. Her tests are very similar to her reviews. EASY A
omg! she is suchhhhh an easy professor! blow off class! believe me! but she counts attendance so gooo to class! lol but the review is so similar as the test. just make sure to study that. don't really need the textbook. she puts the HW and the answers on blackboard.
Easy A class. Gives Homework, but answers worked in blackboard. Tests almost the same as the reviews. Sweet lady!
This was my 2nd time to take Cal 1, I took Rutherford the 1st time -WORST professor! &then took Ms. Seets during Summer 1, she was awesome! She gives extra credit on exams for turning in the test reviews. She really helps you understand the material, she presented material better in a 4 wk summer class than Rutherford did in a semester long class.
Overall the class isn't that bad but get ready to take a ton of notes.
I didn't do well in the course (usual A student) because I didn't really commit to learning the material--I just memorized for the tests and forgot afterwards. She's a good prof but you really need to do the hw and make sure you understand material. She'll help if you need it.
Nicest lady! Genuinely wants you to do well. Loves athletes!
Professor Seets teaches so clearly. I never took Pre-Calculus, am not a natural at math & had no math in 6 yrs. Her teaching laid an excellent foundation for Calculus I and she gives helpful pre-cal material to fill in gaps. Very helpful/available in office hours. Tests are basically the review and notes. She is AWESOME, a treasure at SMU.
Pretty straightforward class. Often changes up the schedule on the syllabus, but most things get done. She literally puts up all notes, hw answers, and quiz answers on blackboard. People who don't do well probably don't take advantage of all the resources given and put in time outside of class. Tests are very similar to the review. Recommend highly
As someone who had never taken Calc in high school, I struggled at the beginning of this course. I went to her office hours and she offered so much help and recommended that I go to graduate students office hours before tests. I ended up with an A in the class because she truly cares for those students who put in the effort. Great professor!
Her study guides for the tests are exactly like the tests. Go to office hours and you can ask anything pretty much. Great teacher and would definitely recommend.
Take her for Business Clac during May term or Jan Term for the easiest A of your life. Allows corrects for 50% of points back on all tests and there isnt a final. Cool teacher who wants you to do well.
Professor Seets is a great professor. She wants to make sure everyone does well in her class. If you do the quizzes and HW that are outside of class, and the study guilds for the test you will pass no problem. She is always in her office to talk and go over what you want, just make sure you come with questions.
Took her for precalc and if you take notes in class and do the review you can get a good grade. The review is identical to the test, so just do that a few times. Never opened my textbook. Weak in math, but I was able to just memorize how to do the review for the tests.
Total sweetheart, but a bit behind the times with technology. I am not especially good at this kind of math but it was an easy A+
Professor Seets was an excellent professor who has obviously been teaching math a long time. If you study for the tests, you should get an A. She is a little behind the times with regard to technology, but a great professor nonetheless.
Ms. Seets is a great teacher. She reminds me a bit of a high school teacher with her mandatory attendance policy and strict ban on technology in the classroom, but nonetheless she makes the class easily understandable. As long as you do the reviews before the test and do all of the homework, you shouldn't have a problem getting a good grade.
Professor Seets is hands down one of the most caring, straight-forward, genuine professors at SMU. I would recommend her to anyone wanting to get a good grade; you must be willing to sign in for attendance and study the exam review. Also, go see her in her office if you have any questions. Highly recommend taking one of her classes.
Carol Seets is very kind. However, she is not a good professor to take if you have not taken calculus before. She moves very quickly and often makes mistakes on the notes. Her notes are example based but do not explain concepts very well or steps very well.
Carol is pretty great teacher but with outdated teaching styles. She uses a mirror projector straight from the 80's every day of class. It can be a bit tedious but she goes through the material at a reasonable pace. She can seem a bit aggressive if you talk to her alone (i.e. office hours).
Take Professor Seets if you can! She's an incredibly easy, yet quality professor. There are 12 quizzes and 3 tests (plus the final). Quizzes are take home. Tests are JUST LIKE THE REVIEW. The class is an easy A if you just buckle down and perform well on the tests. (I've heard Judy Newell is pretty great too)
Prof Seets is one of the best Math profs at SMU. She is caring and if you miss class will let you turn in work late. Posts handwritten notes and hmwk answers online (no reason not to get 100 on hmwk), will let you check your quizzes if go to office hours. Tests/Final aren't too difficult, just study reviews and practice tests. Would def recommend.
Amazing lady. I suggest taking her regardless of calculus background. I had 0 going into the class and came out on top because of continuous office hour visits- which she encourages and appreciates. Her tests are short answer and straight forward. She gives partial credit and tests/final are basically entire grade. Final replaces lowest test grade.
Professor Seets' class is an easy A. The notes are just like the homework (which she calls take-home quizzes), and then the homework is just like the tests. As long as you go to class and do your work, the class should be no problem (especially if you've taken calc before!)
I don't think there has been a single class where she didn't make an error when working through material. But once you see past that, she gives extremely clear explanations and examples. She also sets a 'review' before the test which is pretty much the same as the test but different numbers. If you actually study and do the work you'll be fine.
She's sweet. DO NOT SKIP CLASS!! You'll miss the lecture notes that teach you the information, and the online notes are kind of hard to read. Attendance is also an easy grade. The quizzes are take home. She's picky when it comes to grading, but the class isn't hard.
I had to take Calc2 for my major and was nervous bc I made a C+ in Calc1, but Carol Seets is the BEST teacher. She honestly wants everyone to make the best grade possible and is team extra credit to bump you up. TAKE THIS CLASS IN THE SUMMER!! She's easy during a regular semester, but almost everyone ended up with an A in my summer course.
The best business calc teacher. Her classes are big so it is hard to ask questions, but if you go in to office hours she will help you tremendously with the quizzes. Reviews are parallel to the tests so they aren't hard. Even if you haven't taken calc before this class is manageable.
Carol Seets is an amazing teacher! She genuinely cares about her students. Although she can make minor mistakes during her lectures, she quickly fixes them. Homework is a completetion grade with the answers on Canvas. Quizzes are take-home quizzes. Tests are pretty much the same as the Quizzes and HW. The class is easy if you try.
Really easy class if you've taken calc before. If you haven't taken it before but if you study you'll still do well. Attendance isn't really necessary cause she posts her notes and answers to the homework online. Quizzes are take-home quizzes. Tests are straightforward and exactly like review guide.
If you take notes and do the homework quizzes, the tests will be super easy for you and you will pass the class. If you keep a 95% test average all semester, you do not have to take final. Material covered is simple & easy to learn. All notes are posted online. If you need help, she always answers email & is willing to help! Great professor!
Shes the bomb, I love her
She's probably one of the best math teachers I've ever had. She puts all her notes online, she is clear and easy to follow in class, and her reviews actually cover what will be on the tests. There are take home quizzes, 4 tests, and a final. As long as you follow her notes, go over them before the test, and do the reviews you will do well.
Homework graded for completion. Quizzes are take-home but tad difficult. Overall, the sweetest teacher and wants all of her students to succeed.
Tests are literally the quiz problems with different numbers. Final was exact same as test review. As long as you take notes and understand the quizzes you will do great in the class and don't even need to bother doing the optional textbook homework.
Gives study guides for everything, easiest class and teacher. would definitely take again
Gives incredibly clear lectures, and definitely wants her students to pass. Probably the first math class I had ever taken where I felt like I actually knew what I was doing, would absolutely take her again.
Reviews are just like the test. Don't have to show up. Gives lots of good practice if you need it. Would recommend for 1309
I cant stress enough how great this teacher is. Sign up for her business calculus class and you wont regret it! I hadnt taken a single math related class in over 5 years. Needless to say I was rusty. I went during her office hours and she took the time to make sure I didnt just get the right answer, I understood the concepts. Best teacher ever!
This class was a very easy A. The tests and quizzes were pretty much the same and if you study just a little you can easily get high grades on the tests and final. Professor Seets is also very helpful during office hours.
Fantastic teacher. One of the few who is a great blend of a great teacher of the material and gives very fair tests. If you go to class and take notes you get an A, as simple as that.
Prof. Seets is a nice more senior lady, but I really did not enjoy her class. She is very knowledgeable but she just rambles and scribbles in class without really explaining. She doesn't really teach she just works out examples during class, so get ready to basically teach yourself calculus if you take her class. Wouldn't take her class again.
Her Business Calc class is easy for people who have taken calculus before but as someone who had never taken it before it was rough for me. There are weekly take-home quizzes and her tests are just like those quizzes and the reviews. She's nice enough but gets really sassy is she thinks anyone is talking in class. Good for a Cox required class.
Not very understanding. Super unreasonable grader. Very very disrespectful and downright mean. Not really sure why she is graded highly on here.
Is Professor Seets the best teacher I have ever had? No. Is her class an easy A if you attend her lectures and put in some work? Yes. For Business Calculus, Seets is an excellent choice.
Her teaching style is okay, but she posts all the notes and quiz answers on Canvas along with posting what exactly is going to be on the test. I didn't go to class at all after we went online, and I got the same test grades. Also, I would have no idea how to do a problem and she'd give me like half the points. Easiest Calc II teacher.
This class was very easy if you get a tutor or already know the material. This class was not meant to be online so it may have been better in person but online lectures were awful. Also cancelled most office hours.
Very good at giving examples and most examples are identical to the ones on quizzes and tests.
This class is easy if you put in the work/know it already. It was challenging to learn online through lectures. She is the NICEST lady ever but I must say that she often made mistakes in her examples. The TA's study sessions before the tests are why I got an A. Best part of the class is if you have a 95 test average you are exempt from the final!
Boring on Zoom but did not really need to listen to the lectures and was okay. She is very sweet and wants her students to succeed!! Great TA for this class, extremely helpful.
Don't take anyone else but Seets for MATH1309. Goes through all the material throughly and responds to emails timely. TA also leaves good feedback on quizzes. If you do well enough she doesn't make you take the final exam.
just not good at explaining material, super slow grader, lots of quizzes. Doesn't use lockdown browser. Read on here that she will do the quizzes with you, but she gives similar examples.
This class is not difficult if you put in the work. She gives take home quizes and review problems before tests that count for extra credit if completed. The reviews are almost identical to the tests (but with changed numbers). TA was very helpful and hosted sessions to work on quizes and review for tests.
Everything that you need to know is taught during her lectures. If you take good notes, which isn't hard since she is a very slow talker and writer, you will get a good grade. Her practice tests are almost identical to the actual test.
You don't need to turn in homework which is nice. Frequent take-home quizzes. The tests are just like either the practice or the review -- make sure which one (she changes it)!! Usually teaches 8am classes, but she's a good teacher. She's pretty manageable, just very old and set in her ways. Can test out of final (94% test average).
Slowest grader of all time. Professor Seets seems like a really nice lady, but her slow-paced class and grading strategies are hard to overcome. I took calc prior to this course, which helped me out, but if your trying to learn something look elsewhere.
Such a sweet lady. No homework, and test reviews are extra credit! Quiz's are take home, and you do a lot of the questions in class. Go to lectures, and take notes when she rights on the board. The test is exactly the test review but different numbers, so if you do not understand the review, go to office hours for the answers.
Grade composed of 4 tests (all very similar to the practice tests). You're able to test out of the final if you have a high test average. She is super old, but the class is straightforward. Homework is optional.
She barley teaches in class, instead she shares videos for every lecture that are over 1h long. If you have class 3 times per week that can be over 3h. Way too much homework, will take up so much of your time. About 2-3 take-home quizzes per week, and also around 40 homework problems per unit. On top of this we need to watch those lectures...
DON'T TAKE. Too much work. Always late, never finishes notes in class, never leave class on time, tells you to watch the rest at home. Quiz and homework every night after notes (oh but remember watch the rest of the notes too). 2 tests within first month, third soon. Cancels class often but doesn't adjust tests date accordingly. Take at ur own risk
Carol Seets is a genuine sweetheart. Her lectures are not very clear, however, and often found myself learning the material from her previous videos or YouTube videos. The class becomes easier as the it progresses during the semester.
Although the class material was pretty easy, Professor Seets has trouble explaining concepts and frequently messes up in lectures. Although the class is very straightforward and the grading criteria is exact, you will have to teach yourself pretty much everything form YouTube.
Professor Seets took a month + one week to return a test to us because she kept forgetting to bring the tests to school, which was very frustrating. Her notes are well structured (they're an outline of notes) and available on canvas, however, pay close attention in class as she messes up often and loses her train of thought.
Her tests are pretty much the same as the practice tests, so make sure to do those to prepare. You also get 2 points added to every test if you turn in the practice tests. She takes a long time to grade and hand back tests which can be annoying, especially at the end of the semester. Panopto videos are honestly more valuable than going to class.
Carol is a very sweet woman who is simply in no condition to be teaching. Her tests were easy and very similar to practice tests, homework and quizzes were easy and she posted the homework answers. I had already taken this curriculum in high school so it was not very difficult, but I never would have learned anything from her.
Excellent choice for Calculus 2. She's good at explaining everything and gives plenty of examples. Many take-home quizzes. Homework is a completion grade. Practice Tests are like the actual tests. 4 Tests and she usually tells you exactly what will be on them. She makes the class easy, only if you ensure you keep up and turn in everything on time.
This class was the easiest math class I have ever taken. If you took Calc 1 in high school this will be a walk in the park. 13 quizzes and four tests and if you get an average of 94 on all the tests you don't have to take the final. She is one of the older professors so be prepared for her to cancel class and do a zoom lecture last minute.
Carol Seets is a very genuine old lady.I will start off by saying I took Calculus in high school, which is the reason why I got the grade I got. She will be very difficult for those who have no prior calculus experience. Her in class lectures are actually very helpful for the quizzes (which there are a lot of) and tests.
She gives an insane amount of homework and quizes. She also showed up late to class late everyday and constantly messed up during her lectures. She posts panopto videos that are over an hour long and expects us to watch them before class. She takes over a month to hand back tests.
Carol is OK. Not great, but not terrible. The class structure is clear, and you will do extremely well if you took Calc in high school. If you didn't, go elsewhere. Her lectures are awful. You'll likely have to teach yourself unless you're really good at math. However, she's helpful in office hours. Says that attendance is a grade, but it isn't
You are expected to teach yourself by watching hour long Panopto videos before class. She only covers a few things in class, which she is almost always late to. She also takes *forever* to grade and give back tests, literally almost 1-2 months for the second test (which is around where you decide whether you drop the class or not).
