I think that this is so funny because she thinks we all write trash about her. She is great! She makes a study pack so your notes are pretty much taken care of. Attendance counts. Personally grades the tests because she doesn't trust machines. Daily quizes are taken in class via 'clicker', so have one. DON'T argue with her about Oz (you'll get it)!

Great teacher, She actually knows what she's talking about and gives you extra help if you need it. Best part is that there's no stupid papers or homework, just study and go to class and you will do fine on the tests.

Ridiculously easy. I'd advise going to class some, maybe every other class is all you need. You probably have about 5 hours of homework through the whole semester. Don't buy the textbook or the study guide, you won't even open it. Lecture can get boring, but informative. She's pretty nice and responds to e-mails quickly

I took stivender for ECON 2102 over the summer and took 2101 with her this semester. because she is AWESOME. She does a real good job of keeping economics interesting. I took a risk and did not even buy the book this semester and I have a B. My advice is GO TO CLASS! You will not do good if you do not go to class, but it wont be painful I promise.

I took her during the summer for Macro Econ. She was pretty hard. The class as a whole did "ok" but I think she is easier during a regular semester when she actually gives multiple choice tests!

For a huge class, she is as entertaining as you could hope. There's not much homework and it's easy. Tests aren't too hard and there's extra credit available after almost every test. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you go to the classes then you should do very well on the tests without much studying. Best person to take for ECON 2101.

Great teacher. Class is large but she lectures well and keeps things interesting. Tests are 100% multiple choice/true-false. I read the book before each test and pulled an A in the end. 5 tests over the semester (1 is final) and she drops to lowest (aka can skip one although the final is your best bet as is cumulative).

Great teacher, although class is a little bit too long. If you have a general knowledge of economics and understand how it works you don't need to come to class, just study the book. I came to most classes but slept through 70% of them. Got an A without making above 90 on any test. Do your work, study when you need to and you'll have an easy A.

Excellent profesor, probably one of the best at UNCC. She keeps you interested not only by using relevant examples, but with her humor too. She could prob do stand up if she wasnt a profesor. Class is straight from powerpoint or a movie, attendance is not required but sometimes she gives a 5 question quiz that doesn't count against you if you miss, but it is an extra credit boost at end of semester. 4 tests and 1 final. She drops lowest test score including final, so if you are happy with your grade after 4 tests, you may skip final.

Exams are base directly from lecture and powerpoints, you don't need to by a book. Attendance is not mandatory but, you have to go to class. Studying only the powerpoints its not enough. She does not have exam review. She teaches everything that will be on the exam though out the lectures. I highly recommend to take this professor.

Always go to class! She offers random extra credit opportunities. Tests do require studying. I'd recommend the book just because some economic concepts can be difficult to grasp if you haven't taken an econ class before. The videos that she posts online help too. Posts homework assignments online that are easy and will bump your grade up.

I took her for Macro and Micro. She is extremely helpful and makes the classes very interesting. She is not a typical monotone "read and press enter" professor. She does use only slides but she makes use of better examples and draws out the graphs very well. Go to her office and she explains it until you get it. I would not take anyone else.

Stivender is one of the best professors I've had at UNCC. The class had a reasonable amount of work, her assignments and expectations were clear, she provided guides for our one exam, the books she chose were interesting, and the group projects were easy. It felt like we had a lot of latitude with our assignments to do them how we saw fit.

Her tests were challenging. She did not give a lot of guidance as to what we were going to be tested on. Tests covered about 4 chapters. Optional final.

If you don't learn and do well, its because YOU didn't want to. You can't sleep through this class, but the material is AWESOME!

This is a hybrid class. You will be expected to learn mostly from textbook. I really like Dr. Stivender. This is a pretty easy class.

Always let us out of class early, GREAT teacher make macro so clear a monkey could pass her class. Attendance is not mandatory but if you stay for the whole day the day after a test you will have chance for test extra credit. I missed a test from being hungover and still got a high B. Best teacher at the school, take her class or you will regret.

Probably the best professor I ever had in 5 years.

This instructor respects that students are adults and will do as much as each individual needs to succeed. Attendance is not mandatory, but each of her lectures clearly highlights important material from the chapters. She's always available in person and via email and very good about being helpful. As long as you make the effort, you will pass.

I took the hybrid version of this class. Quizzes and hw should be AN OBVIOUS 100% which is 35% of your grade. We used MyEconLab and there were multiple attempts on hw and quizzes. There are 4 test that you have to study for. I basically studied all the information from the quizzes and hw and did well in the class. The final is optional. Made an A.

Dr. Stivender is one of the best professors in our Economics department. Take any econ class you can with her! She is the only way to go for Econometrics. This class will help shape your vision to whether you prefer econ theory or applied econ

I took the hybrid and I thought the class was easy. You just need to actually learn the material before class then she teaches it and you should be set. Theres homework due every night before class but it is unlimited attempts. Tests are taken in class but not too hard if you study! She is really good at explaining things!

Took hybrid. myeconlab access required. 4 tests (easy to medium-hard, "wordly" tricky), optional final to replace any lowest grade; online quizzes (3 attempts)/hws (unlimited). Crystal clear in what she lectured. I prepared for the tests by making study guides from powerpoint notes, studying online hws and quizzes, going to the SI session.

Carol is a pretty good teacher. I have taken Econ classes before but they seemed to be more engaging but also smaller. This class was a big class so it is not as personable in class as my other Econ class I have taken. It is basically an online class. Attendance is not mandatory but you usually get out of class early. Just study and you will pass.

Not much to say. Basically an online class, just go to the class after each test. Econ is pretty easy and 30% of your grade is a 100 due to unlimited homework and quiz attempts. Just take her and move on

Take it from her. Mostly online, optional final, can go to SI if you need more help. She has an obsession with Chick-fil-A & will let you out of class early every time just to get to her chicken sandwich before a line grows. Also there is extra credit after EVERY test (5 points can be added to your grade and allowed to work with classmates on that)

Attendance only mandatory for tests. If you keep up w/ online HW/quizzes, you'll do OK. Her tests aren't hard but they ARE thorough. Make sure you understand graphs & vocabulary. Final exam optional; she replaces your lowest test w/ your final exam grade if you do well. Has absolutely no mercy for late work, so keep up w/ due dates. Great prof!

Professor Stivender is a great professor and one I would highly recommend for Econ Macro (especially hybrid course). She does a great job explaining the material during the lectures. A lot of homework and quizzes are done using the online software, with a few tests in class.

Dr. Stivender is the only person to take senior seminar with. Literally worth delay your graduation to a Fall semester to take her class. Absolutely inspiring and will open your eyes to Economics beyond the business world.

This was an easy class to take and not hard at all. I took the hybrid class so everything is online, that includes HW (unlimited attempts), quizzes(3 attempts) and the Tests. We only met once a week to go over the HW but attendance is not mandatory at all, I never went. DO the assignments because she doesn't extend those and they really help you.

I took Stivender's senior seminar class (4200). She was a very fun discussion leader and held a very relaxed classroom environment. She is very nice and respectable. The class required a 70 min presentation which seems daunting but was a group project and as long as you choose a good topic you will do . Fully Recommend 100%.

If I hated every single class in the Econ program but still had Dr. Stivender for my senior seminar, I would not have regretted being an Econ major. Can hardly put into words how special of a lady she is, as well as how amazing her class is. BEST CLASS AND PROFESSOR I'VE HAD IN COLLEGE, 10/10 recommend. Not difficult and fun.

Online version is super straightforward. Just give yourself enough time to complete assignments and you'll do well. Exams are based on the homework and quizzes, so reviewing those help a lot. She provides flash lectures on difficult areas but if you need additional help she's easy to connect with.

She puts everything online at the beginning of the semester. Homework/quizzes help prepare for tests. The only thing that isn't great is that she doesn't post assignments in canvas so you really have to stay on top of dates in connect.

AMAZING professor

Great professor that is very knowledgeable. This is a course that requires work that is not necessarily difficult but can become a mountain if you do not keep up. Practice the topics and you will be good. They only become complex if you get behind. She is a great person and a wonderful professor.

Senior Seminar with Dr. Stivender is something I highly recommend. You will get a holistic and interactive view on many economics related topics that impact the world and our country. Straightforward project and minimal assignments.

This class is really doable because the course was easy to follow. It's fully asynchronous and honestly as long as you do the work you will pass with an A. The homework is easy with multiple tries and all of the quizzes have multiple chances. The lowest test grade is dropped and I didn't even have to take the final. She really cared about everyone.

Dr. Stivender provides a lot of resources to help understand concepts. There were a couple of extra credit opportunities which was nice. Also Dr. Stivender replied quickly to any of my questions or concerns. She communicated often to the class. There where 4 tests but lots of homework opportunities to bring your grade up.

Your grade is based on 3 tests, 4 homeworks, and a project. She tells you exactly what is on the test to study for. The homework Is just like problems done in class, and she will always help you if needed. Project is a group or individual project that does take time but is spread out through the semester.

Excellent professor. Very caring, very helpful, always responded quickly to emails. Very enthusiastic about economics and teaching and the material was very interesting. Also provided great study guides for exams.

The word that best describes Professor Stivender is "down-to-earth". Stivender makes an effort to teach what seems to be very complicated or challenging into a very simple course. There were three exams, four homework assignments, and a final project. Each exam was scary walking in, and relieving walking out. Just come to class, and you'll be okay.

Unlike most professors, Dr. Stivender doesn't feel the need to overcomplicate things in order to learn them. You have 3 tests, 4 homework assignments, and one partner project. She will walk you through everything so just trust her and come to class. I wish I could take all my econ classes with her, very caring.
