Very nice woman who lightens up the subject of economics.
Very funny and concerned...
Amazing Professor! She made what could be a dull class, a great learning experience!
Very nice lady who isn't afraid to spend a good deal of the class discussing current events or joking around; sometimes she spends too much time on a tangent though. Nonetheless a very enjoyable class, and no strict attendance policy.
All you do in class is bring her news. She wants you to bring in articles and thats all you do in class. She doesnt teach at all. Her exams are very hard and all she does is try to trick you in questions. I went to SI, special teacher meetings and all the reviews and still did poorly.
If you enjoy bringing in news and listening to someone complain about their life than she would be the teacher for you. She likes to play with your mind on her test. She gives no test reviews. I went to all the help I could and failed by 1% which she wouldn't help me increase, even when I begged.
She is definately a good Econ teacher whom is stuck in the College of Arts & Sciences. Hopefully they get Econ moved into the College of Business.
She is a very very nice lady, but her tests are too difficult--all her tests are cumulative and she doesn't tell you which information you can exclude from studying to make it a little easier.
Horrible! Anyone else is so much better!
Tests cover too much material with NO idea as to what will be on them.
She is a very good instructor. Teaches the subject matter well and addresses questions thoroughly. The tests can have one or two mystery questions, but for the most part, they are fair. Just take notes and study. If enough of you campaign against a par
Worst teacher at FGCU. I haven't found one person on campus that enjoyed taking her. Her tests dont cover anything you talk about in class.
Nice teacher but tests are kind of difficult. Also only work in class is online and easy.
She is awful, dont take her if you want to do well in the class. Basically you go to class, talk about everything but economics, and then you are tested on things you don't do in the homework.
If you ready and study you will do fine, make sure to ask questions in class if you want them covered. My fav teacher ever at FGCU
This is not a professor. Professor's are suppose to teach. This teacher doesnt in fact she talks about the news and thats it. Hard tests!!!
Horrible!!!
She is a nice lady but she really doesnt teach much and her tests are super hard. I wouldnt recommend her.
Stay away!
She was a good professor! I studied and went to SI but I did good in the class. I would reccomend her! She takes attendance, but at the beg. so you can leave or have someone sign you in.
Nice Lady, does NOT know how to teach!!! All she does is talk about the news...which is NOT on the exam. Exams are hard and VERY confusing. DO NOT TAKE HER!!
Do your homework and study. Come to class and learn. this is a moderate class. EAsier than micro. Shes a nice lady and sometimes funny also.
Don't take her. Take the other guy. Look at Rate my professor for advice.
Not sure what everyone is complaining about. She doesn't just randomly talk about the news. She talks about real world events and relates them to economics. This increases real understanding of the subject. Homework and coursebook are indicative of what's on the test. Very easy if you have two brain cells to rub together.
She talks a lot about her personal life and tells jokes more than she talks about Economics. Her tests are very hard. She does homework through Aplia which was VERY time consuming and did not relate to the test at all. Would definitely not recommend!
She's pretty funny and answers all questions. As long as you study and do the online work, you'll do well.
stand up comedy i love coming to class. lol. does not curve nor make study guide for u. but other than that explains material well and explains things over and over till u get it!! great teacher.
She really makes a very boring subject seem interesting. There was not one day that I was in class and did not laugh out loud, she is an absolute riot. Very helpful though too, if you come to class with questions about the material she will get them answered. The tests will be very hard if you don't read the material, and do the course book.
Jokes about her life, and loves sports. Good teacher, explains thoroughly.
I learned more about sports than I did about economics. Doesn't really teach the class. You do Aplia at home on your own, and none of the homework is on the tests. I would not recommend.
VERY HARD Professor!! She doesn't go over whats on the tests in class, she would rather talk about whats going on in the world. Yeah, it is relative to the class but NOT your tests! Read the ENTIRE textbook. She is helpful in office hours! TAKE KEREKES!! She's amazing!
She is very difficult. She has no desire for students to actually understand the material. She, for some twisted reason, tries to trick you on the tests. She has a boring life and loves to talk about it. She has double standards and has nearly fallen asleep in class and has had multiple disruptions from her cell phone in class. Take Dr.Gary Jackson
I spose anyone that has had a porblem with prof Sweeney has been the type of student who isn't up for some work. You can't get thru the class by not reading the book or listening, but if you do the assignments & the reading, and study you should do fine. She's a real nice teacher, wants to help, has no prob answering questions. Makes class enjoyabl
Macroeconomics is not an easy subject, however professor Sweeney is an excellent professor. She goes along with the book, you definitely have to read before coming to class to have any idea what she is talking about. She plays a lot of funny youtube videos. She is very nice and accomodating to an extent. Great class, but very hard work needed.
Good professor overall. She knows the subject very well and will go over anything you don't understand. I never read the textbook before class and never felt lost. Took minimal notes. Tests aren't too challenging. She's a real right-wing free-marketer though so keep that in mind.
Overall a great professor. For an economics course, her lectures are very entertaining. Have to pay attention, but its not difficult. My one complaint: the tests are from the book completely, but she only lectures on certain aspects of the book, so make sure you read it.
Hard class.. and she makes it way more difficult than it needs to be.. Her study guides are to pretty much read the whole book.. SO NOT HELPFUL.. hardest class to take notes in because it was not like actual notes.. Will never take her again
Sweeney is a very knowledgable teacher when it comes to the subject of Economics. Having said that, she does not make it easy for you to pass her tests. They are straight out of the Book and barely touches on the Test subjects. I got a B, but not without hours of my face in the book and continuous repeating of the myeconlab guides. Take Kerekes!
All she talks about is football and food. I dropped the class because it was hard to follow her. Economics is hard and she wasn't much help to me. So I took it at another college. I would recommend the same is economics isn't easy for you.
Awful professor. Her notes were useless and she barely taught. People that did not come to class got better grades than the people that did go. Never recommend her to anyone
Sweeney is an awesome no nonsense professor. Yes, her exams can be tough, but honestly if you put in the extra effort of using the practice tests, actually reading the book and going to her when you need help. There is no reason anyone cant at least get a b. Economics isn't easy, but she is very good about helping and wants you to succeed
NEVER answers e-mails about assignments. Never. If you have an issue or a question, don't take it to her. Class is easy enough if you read.
She makes her exams impossible. Nothing that you learned from the book. Being an online class I figured she would take it easy but grades hard as ever. A lot of busy work. If the assignments aren't perfect she wont give you a good grade. Do not recommend at all.
Seemed funny through email so she might be fun to take in person, but I wouldn't take her again for an online class. She provided rubrics for assignments but didn't fill them out, so you have no idea what you got points taken off of for assignments. I was given a 0 on something by mistake and it took two months and emails for her to fix the grade.
She is TERRIBLE. In the beginning she seems sweet but as you start to do her work she becomes a totally different professor! I am in her online economics class and no matter how long my discussion replies are & no matter how many sources I use and cite (including the textbook) IT'S NEVER ENOUGH. Constantly getting 710 for good work. Don't take!!!!
I constantly receive 5/10 or 6/10 on all discussions for reasons unknown. She tells me to cite work and I will receive full credit. This is not true. After citing multiple times in each discussion I still receive half credit. STAY AWAY FROM THIS CLASS. My GPA is suffering because she enjoys to give these types of grades.
I created an account just to warn future students of this awful teacher. She only tries to make it harder for students, giving pop quizzes that will result in a zero if you happen to miss the class and providing no extra credit. Her lectures never correlate with her tests and she does not go over major concepts in the book. Worst teacher ever.
Sweeney is a very knowledgeable instructor, gives very interesting & informative lectures, and sometimes shows funny videos; HOWEVER, she went CRAZY on pop-quizzes in all of her Macro Economics classes in the 2nd half of the semester. Many students went to the Department Chair or the Dean during the 2nd half to refute grades. She became the devil.
Prof Sweeney is very knowledgeable about economics. She is terrible at communicating any of this knowledge. To compensate for her inability to instruct this course, she spends majority of class time going off on tangents about how things used to be in her days vs. now. She cant use canvas very well, and swears at the class when she receives emails.
Professor Sweeney can seem intimidating at times but she is super friendly and cares about your grade. This course has a 50% drop rate school wide so don't blame the teacher. If the class listens to her about in class conduct you shouldn't have any issues. Great professor and helps you understand the concepts of economics.
Carol Sweeney is an inspiring, great professor despite all the horrible ratings on here. If you are a well-educated, hardworking student, you should have no problem. Her exams are not as hard as everyone says it is (I'm not a straight A student). Her lectures are hilarious and mostly about food but they are course-related.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! Worst professor at FGCU. At the beginning of the semester, she will let everyone know her class is a 50/50 drop out rate to scare you. She is very negative and expects way more out of her students than other professors.
I would never take her ever again. I left every lecture feeling like I didn't learn anything because she goes off on so many tangents. She's a tough professor and she is not nice AT ALL. Multiple times she would scream at the class if 2 people hadn't read the book. It was awful.
Professor Sweeney is a funny professor, but extremely difficult. Personally, I have a hard time understanding economics and she didn't make it any easier for me. The first thing she says is "only half of this class will make it to the end". However, it is the truth. She is love economics, if you do too & already understand it then you may succeed.
Hardest class I've ever took. There are far, far better economic professors than her. Half the class will either drop or fail. We took 3 tests throughout the semester, and the class average was a 61, 64, and 63 respectively. Do yourself a favor and avoid her. Her tests are nothing like her lectures, so there isn't much you can do to prepare.
I really liked Sweeney. Her reviews were horrible but I think she was hilarious and very helpful. She uses great examples to understand economics. Reading is important to do well on tests and random class activities. Tests can be sort of difficult but nothing crazy. I seriously recommend her, especially if you like a humorous professor.
Terrible professor and overall terrible person. Had to drop the class because she doesn't give any grades besides tests and in class pop quizzes. Also she is not a good person. I saw her at chipotle and she filled her water cup up with iced tea after complaining to the manager. Clearly not a good person or teacher.
Biggest regret got stuck with Sweeney because she was the only one who taught the course I needed to graduate and honestly she ruined my life. There's a 99.9% chance I won't graduate because of her. She gives way too many assignments and don't even bother relying on her syllabus for the proper point system she uses. 12/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND.
Prof Sweeney is the best macro professor. After withdrawing from the course & having to take it the next semester, I was placed w her & not only excelled but also realized my ability when I apply myself and Have a great professor. She's intelligent, helpful and gives awesome notes & resources. If u want to be a better student I suggest u take her!!
took her class online, gives way too many assignments, isn't clear about what she wants, and didn't end up following her syllabus. be prepared to devote your life to one little class when you're trying to juggle 4 others.
Great professor
This was a difficult class, I was not a fan of the teaching style, just because it didn't help at all with the tests (which are heavily weighted). She seems intimidating in the class room, but going to her office hours will show you she really cares and wants you to succeed. I would recommend knowing the material before coming to class, POP QUIZZES
I do not recommend Sweeny. Took her online class. Terrible communicator, was rude when she responded to maybe one of my emails out of 10, and is not clear about any her assignments, quizzes, tests. Did a discussion once a week, and I never got over a 3/5, following all directions she provided. TOUGH GRADER
Tests are very difficult and heavily weighted
Lectures are great, she gives real life examples to help you understand. Funny. Test can be difficult, and they are 75% of your grade. In class assignments done in pairs usually and about one a week typically. Attendance is graded, and easy points. NO extra credit so make sure you do the work. Many people drop the class.
Take this professor if you want to genuinely learn about macroeconomics - but do not expect to earn a good grade. Lectures in class were very enjoyable and probably one of the first classes in which I learned a lot about things that were very relevant and important. BUT, tests were like another language. Nothing from lecture was put on the test.
This is my third time taking Sweeney, and I'll do it again if I can. Having her as a professor is one of the few times I genuinely enjoy going to class. Yes- you have to read the book, attend class, & understand the material, but if you really try then she will give you all the help she can. I will admit that exams are difficult, not impossible.
if you skip her class you will not pass. so many grades and reminders are in class and you cannot make them up. its practically impossible to study for her exams unless you continuously keep rereading the book or wanna watch videos 100 times over. but you must go to class i cannot stress it enough.
Took this class at 7:30 am missed a couple classes and the days rarely anyone shows up, she uses attendance as a grade. On the syllabus, it says pop quizzes at the end of the chapter but she does it the day after assigning the readings for that chapter and its only 2-5 questions so getting a good grade is very unlikely. If you have her good luck.
Not a very pleasant experience. Exams are written to fool you. Grades are heavily weighted on exams. Showed up to every class on time just to receive a C and I don't consider myself to be a slacker. I can see how her lectures can be informative and interesting. Won't be that bored in class but you'll break your back for an avg grade.
Don't take this professor if you want to pass. She does not explain the lecture clearly and she keeps talking about other things rather than the actual context of the lectures. She grades really tough. Also don't ask too many questions in class, she visibly gets annoyed if you ask more than 1 question.
Really liked her as a professor, shes pretty funny but the class was difficult. 5% of our grade was homework and the other 95% was exams. You NEED to read the book to pass.
She really cares a lot about her students. You really have to read the book in order to pass. If you dont the highest you will probably get is a C. She is tough but worth it.
If you are really interested in economics she is a great professor to have, she knows what she is talking about and is passionate about it so ask her questions. Reading the textbook will help you in class but not mandatory. Test heavy indeed but they are multiple-choice and not crazy difficult. Gives feedback after exams. Not too bad overall
On 2 out of 3 of the tests the highest score was an 87 on two of them. Class average usually sits around 65 with no curve. Homework and test study guides arent very helpful.
Definitely read the text book. Her lectures are not designed to teach new material. I would say she struggles to follow if you work better with visual and hands on demonstrations. I found her exams to be very difficult to complete in the time given.
She was a very tough Professor who was very knowledgable on the subject. I went to her office hours and she was lovely to work with 1 on 1
Professor Sweeney is a tough grader and is never accessible if you take her online. It was also often hard to figure out what exactly she was looking for in her assignments. Also, her class had many assignments, 1 due each Saturday, 2 on Sunday and tests/quizzes here and there throughout the week.
Prof. Sweeney is a great person, but being a great ;person doesn't help you teaching skills one bit. Prof. Sweeney might have been the worst teacher Ive ever had in my entire life. I did the reading and all of the homework and even took generous amounts of notes during class and still failed every exam until the point where I was forced to drop.
Prof. Sweeney focuses too much on being fully and not enough on teaching. She seems like a great person to have a drink with at a bar, but when it comes to teaching I think its time for her to hang up the boots and retire. She might be the worst teacher known to mankind. This class is made for you to fail, you will not pass with her as a teacher.
Worst teacher Ive ever had. Im considering consulting the person who educated her and hired her, Ive never had a worse experience trying to learn material
Professor Sweeney seems like a good person, but her teaching ability is very low. Also, she's not very helpful if you don't understand what's going on. I was forced to take her class because it was the only one available. DO NOT take this class if you don't have to. Disregard all other reviews, & go off this one. I was failing, so had to drop it.
I seriously read a lot of good reviews before I signed up but maybe its because of the pandemic? She likes to spend a lot of time in zoom talking and not actually teaching. Wastes a lot of time in class and then is rude when everyone does poorly on the exams. Very rude to email and very rude to discuss anything with. Definitely dont take her.
If you want to take a class that you have to completely teach yourself you should take professor Sweeney because she isn't very helpful in teaching. She spends more time of the lecture talking about food and random things than she does teaching the material. This is the only class I have ever had to drop and I don't recommend it to anyone.
She's nice, but she does not know how to teach. She does not stay on topic and her grading criteria is unclear. I can't wait till this class is over.
After taking her class online I am not really sure why Prof. Sweeney has such a poor rate my professor grade. She is really easygoing, as long as you do the assignments in their entirety you will get a good grade in this class. You do have to read the textbook but it is a super easy read, you can hardly call it a textbook.
her class very hard to follow. was rude and passive-aggressive when talking about people not understanding the subject/tests. I would def not take her again
If Professor Sweeney spent as much time going over important material as she does talking about fast food, I think the class would be a pleasure. Her grading criteria is very unclear. Would not take her as a teacher again.
Shes a great teacher if you're willing to put the work in. As someone who has 3 jobs and takes 5 classes, she makes it easy to work with me when I need help. If you go to class and do the homework and show you are trying she will help you with anything you need. Amazing teacher, I'm taking her again next year!!
I love her. Would recommend taking her class. If you are willing to work, you will pass. She helps you out and opens up office hours for you. The people who don't like her class are usually lazy and don't like to actually do the work. Shes the best and shes super funny.
Prof. Sweeney is AWESOME! Legit one of my favorite teachers I've ever had. Lectures are fun and include real life examples to increase comprehension. She's got a wicked sense of humor and always cracks jokes, making the class fun and lively. ECON is a complex topic, all the students giving bad reviews are just blaming her for their own incompetence
Prof Sweeney's lectures were not what I thought they would be at the beginning. Her teaching methods are not efficient at all and expect you to learn from the book. I am a straight A student and this was been the worst class for me. She will also catch an attitude for no reason when you ask a question about grades.
Professor Sweeney is by far one of the best professors I've taken at FGCU. I am terrible at math and had no background in business but Sweeney was patient and truly wants to see her students succeed. She is funny, her lectures are enjoyable, and she has a reasonable course load. GO TO OFFICE HOURS! Took both Micro and Macro with her, she's the best
Survey of Econ is really easy for an economics course. The few quizzes and exams are open note at home online. Sweeney is fun and engaging in class
Sweeny is super nice lady and engaging, but does not prepare you for the quizzes.
She was a great professor, the class was just hard for me. When I needed extra help she did an online session with me and was very helpful. Her lectures were engaging and interesting and I would definitely take a class with her again! She was also a very personable professor and gave her view on real-world economic situations currently happening.
Fairly easy course, mostly a weekly set of assignments that you need to keep up with. Grading can be inconsistent. Doesn't respond to emails.
I read her RMP reviews before taking and I decided I'm a good student, I can manage. Nope. I could never pass a test. I went to everything she offered. Tutoring, review sessions, and reading the book. Now, I am taking Microecon. with a new teacher. I just took my first test and received a 92%. Just shows you how a good teacher really matters!
Sweeney is one of my favorite profs at FGCU. She is funny and makes her lectures understandable and entertaining. She is helpful outside of class and I think she is your best bet at making micro econ the easiest it could be. You have to put in the work she says to do though, this isn't a slack-off class. Highly recommend!
