really good teacher, she's kind and helpful. Do her assigned homework before the test and u'll be fine
She is wonderful with visuals and explanations. I just wish she was teaching the next class in the series. There is not another teacher like her that I have met at this campus.
By far the BEST professor I've ever had!! She is very interested in helping you actually learn the material and is very good at presenting different perspectives to aid in comprehension. I can only hope that I will have the opportunity to take one of her classes again! Superb!!
Thorough in her subject. Makes the student prepare for future chemistry classes. Is striaght forward and if one is disciplined an A is guaranteed in the class. She seems strict but is very kind and helpful. Sometimes fast while lecturing but u have to be attentive. 2hrs addtional work outside class.
You go sister! She is fun.
She is the best.
Mrs. Berg is a very nice lady! Her class is not good for those who do not test well. Grading relies heavily on tests, assignments are minimal grade value. Assigned lab partners. Would often introduce new material second hours on Mon & Wed which means you (should/have) to stay both hours both days.
Mrs. Berg is really nice - she wants you to do well. But I had a hard time with her lecture style, and didn't feel that she explained things clearly. If Chemistry is intuitive for you, you'll love her. If you need someone who'll take more time explaining the basics, take Goldston.
She's a great teacher... Makes everything (even the hard stuff)seem a lot more simple!
Very good teacher. As long as you do the homework (easy) and study for the quizes and tests (fairly easy) you will ace the class. She also usually gives you the benefit of the doubt when giving points.
she is a fairly good teacher. her lectures are very fast and you have to be there everyday in order to understand what she is saying. she's very good at helping students and will lecture you until you understand. highly recommended, but you have to do her homeworks, labs, and do well in her exams.
She is an awesome teacher. I liked everything about that class more than my other chem classes with exception that you have to re-write up all you lab reports. You don't get to use the lab manual in the lab at all, but otherwise she has a really easy and fun class.
She is the best. Take her!
Best Chem teacher in the world. She actually won an award for it Winter quarter I believe. Very thorough, covers a lot of material fairly quickly. The nicest teacher...sometimes too nice. =) Like to give moral lectures in class =).All in all, the best chem teacher in the world!!
Good Teacher
you have to spend all your life in chemistry if you take a class with her she is so difficult. if you are a forigen student you never want to take class with her
The best Chem teacher at BCC at time I took it....
Excellent professor, eager to teach, and to assist students.
I loved her class, she is so fun and really knows what she's talking about. She even arrives at lab 30min early so she can answer any questions you have. It requires some work to get an A, but if you try at least a little, you will get something out of her
She is indeed a professional, but her class was harder than the rest.
She is a tough prof, but she is very willing to help and support her students. She will strive for you to understand the subject. She is easy to approach if you have a problem.
Excellent teacher! Fun, exciting! watched and made lots of cool things connecting what we learned with tangiable objects! Very Knowledgable in the subject.
Yes she is tough, but she is the best chem teacher you could ever ask for. As long as one does the homework and understands the materials from the book the "A" is a minimum grade they can get. She has more passion for chem and her students than anything else in the world.
Mrs. Berg is an excellent teacher who strives to get to know her students and help them personally. She is a very tough teacher, though, so be prepared to do a lot of work.
Great teacher. Lectures are very clear. She is always available for questions and to provide extra help. She is SO knowledgeable. She goes over all test and homework problems to make sure you understand the concepts. You have to work your butt off in her class but you’ll really know your stuff if you put the effort into it.
She sucks. too much work. take her class if only you love chemistry; otherwise, stay away form this teacher.
After having a crappy 140 class, i was really behind on things but she took the time to help me catch up. She's not really a good person to get notes off. Writes way to fast n changes one thing multiple times for one to keep up. Tests are reasonable. She takes labs really seriously. Must do complete write ups and all that.
Amazing! She does demand a LOT of work but will help you in any way she can. You will really understand Chem (and Organic Chem) after her classes. Her enthusiasm and commitment to her students is awe-inspiring.
That’s how chemistry should be taught. She loves chemistry and all you need to be successful is a passionate teacher like her. An inspiring personality is her best quality.
VERY HARDDDDD!!!!!!
the class was terrible.too much stress!!!!!!!!!!!! all you had to think about was your grade going down. very picky and strict.didn't learn anything, just had to memorize everything so you don't fail!!!
I really like her, but don't take her unless this is the only class you are taking. Seriously! Lecture style has become more confusing over the year (I've had her for two quarters)-makes a lot of mistakes which only confuses students even more. An unreasonable amount of work. Hard to really learn anything when you're constantly playing catch-up.
gotta hate this teacher. she makes the chem so hard. she wants everyone to love chem, but here ...hey Berg, I hated you and chem. I had to take a chem class. that's it. I didn't want u to make me intersted in chem. you would be better to make you tests easier and give better lectures. Jack is a professor and is much better than Berg
I REALLY REGRET TAKING THIS CLASS! IT WAS TOUGH AND SHE MADE IT HARDER THAN WHAT IT SHOULD BE. HOPEFULLY SHE READS THESE COMMENTS FOR HER FUTURE CLASSES. WHAT I GOT FROM HER CLASS WASN'T WHAT I DESERVED! OVERALL:TERRIBLE CLASS, AND I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE BECAUSE YOU'LL HATE CHEMISTRY AFTER IT.
Just left her final-- ridiculously hard! It included problems that she only lectured for one-half hour two days before the final. No way to understand the material much less review the entire quarter. Note to Mrs. Berg: next time spend more TIME on material and your students will perform better. Quality is much more important than quantity!
oh i dont know what to say??????????!
I thought that she was a great professor. Her lectures helped me out a lot, at times I would get confused but she cleared things up. This class is a lot of work but it is worth it I learned a lot from her 150 and 160. I will be taking organic chem with her as well. I recommend her for those who are willing to learn!!!
I would not recommend!
I had her for 150 and 160. Take her courses if you are interested in learning chem from a feminist and are willing to do excessive outside work including extensive weekly writeups on multiple labs. Very dedicated.
do not take her class ! you will suffer!!!!
no comment really:(if i bother to comment, no one is taking it to consideration. she needs to change her way of teaching. HOWEVEr I SHOULD say that she's nice person, but maybe not a good instructor! ?
why is she so hard on us? she makes the material too complicated & even made me change my major.
i think that she's a nice person, but just not a right match for teachg in BCC! she's teaching higher level chem and i think that it's not for those who're just starting to learn.
a very dedicated teacher. she's serious about labs so be prepared to work! this class takes time and effort. she's tough, but a pleasure to be around. it shows that she really loves chemistry.
yeah she loves chemistry because her teachers might have been excellent. for me, i hate chemistry because i'm not getting good instructions from her.
She is great teacher, lots of homework and labs, but helps you with it a lot. she is alway awaylabe to help. So far she is the best teacher that i ever had. She knows her stuff very well and can answer any quetion
Very good teacher!!! one of the best ever...Very hard on work and labs but makes you understand the material very well....Not a class for just craming but if you want to learn the material, she's the best...4th qtr. taking her and she is the best chemistry teacher i've had. NEVER REALLY THOUGHT CHEMISTRY WAS INTERESTING UNTIL I HAD BERG'S CLASS!
A lot of writing involved with her classes. Lectures are kept to key topics, with plenty of demonstration and repetition. Book mainly used as a reference and personal study guide. Shows exceptional command of the subject matter and teaching techniques. Hard class at times, but worth every second and every penny. Ask about her cat!
The exams are too hard and contain materials not covered in class. She expects all your time and effort and doesn’t understand that students may actually have other things that are responsible for! She is NOT a fair teacher: the exam’s questions are huge and have about 10 main elements and 2 points! So if you miss one of the main elements, you won’
Her exams were just little harder than her homework. If you follow the steps, it's not difficult to get credits. Pretty much homeworks to do though.
I hate the lab write-ups. You basically have to rewrite the whole lab manual during the quarter. The homework is her own. It is much harder than the homework in the textbook. Her quizzes and exams are also even harder than her homework. I feel she makes everything ridiculously difficult and grades unfairly. I would not recommend her.
Do you like lab? Are you good at lab? Do you like pages and pages of lab write up? You'll like Mrs. Berg. Labs are hard, tests are easy. She wants you to understand the real world phenomena. You will learn a lot, but you will work hard for it. Not the best teacher I've had, but not bad. I'd take a class from her again.
She's a very intelligent woman, but extremely disorganized with her lectures. Lectures ALWAYS run over the scheduled time so I highly advise those who are thinking of taking her class to not make any commitments at least 1 hour after her class. Her grading can vary depending on her mood.I wasn't pleased with her.
I seriously loved her! She is like a grandma who actually cares about her students. She wants everyone to come see her for help. I went in to see her at least once a week, and it saved my grade. All you have to do it try, she wants everyone to do good.
Ms. Berg was intimidating the first couple of days but really she's not bad. She's by far one of the best teachers that I've had. Even though her hw can be a little tricky, get in to get help. She's EXTREMELY helpful. Really, she is. Her tests are pretty much like the hw. Labs can be tough but interesting! If you put in the effort you'll do fine.
I LOVED MRS BERG! She was my favorite teacher, she explains everything very well, she gives your homework and goes over every question and will answer any any question about it. The homework translates exactly to the test, so if you understand the homework you will do well on tests, pretty easy class, and very helpful. TAKE HER!
cool teacher! loves to tell stories. quizzes are hard but she grades easy. do not miss her class! you will miss a lot if you do. would recommend to a friend if they are willing to put in a lot of effort into the class. oh and labs! labs are forever long, and you have to write out every single labs. and sometimes you do two labs in one day.
Loves to tell many stories, very open about herself, extremely caring about students' beyond class performance! Tests are exactly like HWs & EASY grader on everything-grades on working/effort. Only 'bad' thing is she makes you write lab reports and do a poster, but little HW.
She is the BEST teacher ever!!!She sounds very hard but shes the easiest, shes very kind, and always give you help when you need it. But at times she can be a bit confusing, but she will make it clear if you ask her.
She is probably the nicest person ever, but grades harshly. More interested in how well you replicate what she wrote on the board than in whether you comprehend the material. If you like to just memorize and produce, this is the class for you. If you're better at actually learning things, take it from someone else.
She is the best teacher I ever had in my entire life. She work really hard for grading the test and lab book. Can you imagine that it took her half an hour to grade every test? She will give you point as long as you wrote something right on the test. You will learn a lot in her class. I am her student since I took chem 163. Love you Mrs.Berg
I've taken her 261-263.She's a good teacher who loves her students to do well. Her lectures, HW and exam have little to do with the book. All of it has to do with her own stuff she makes. She plays favorites so get on her good side early.Easy grader if your a favorite with hard quizzes but generally fair.Do not miss class and study regularly.
Mrs. Berg is the nicest, sweetest professor ever! She really wants you to be able to understand the material, so she developed several ways to help you learn it (mechanisms, songs, memorization tricks, etc.) You will have at least 3 hours of lab a week, and have a pre-lab and post-lab which take hours to fill out. Go to Chem club and Docs and dents
Teaches mechanism, what you will need and what the universities teach you!
teaches mechanism so you don't get screw once you transfer and also great for MCAT, dental, PA ,etc.
Great teacher; excited about the subject and always willing to help out her students. Labs are a lot of work.
I took Mrs. Berg for the entire Organic chemistry series and she was great! Tests were very reasonable and labs are lots of fun. She makes you work for your grade but if you show up and pay attention to her lectures you will get an A. Please do not procrastinate for studying for labs / quizzes. She is always there to help you for all your questions
Easy class! Show up and pay attention to lectures, online homework and study the lab. Easy A as long as you do those. She very helpful ask her anything.
Mrs. Berg loves science and teaching. The class itself is not too difficult as long as you keep up with all the material. The lab notebook can be tiresome. Reading the textbook is highly recommended. All of her tests are basically cumulative, with some 161 material. Also her lectures almost always go over the class period, about 20-30 min.
Berg is an amazing lady, and a GREAT teacher. She loves chemistry and truly cares about her students. But her class is challenging. During my 2 years at BC I've been pretty much a 4.0 student. I worked hard in her class and ended up with a B+. Labs are long. Final is very tough. Overall, if you wanna learn chem TAKE BERG! Not the prof for an easy A
She will doc you based on how well she likes you. Students who spent every day in her office scored higher even though they got answer wrong. Labs: write out pre-lab with diagrams(many lose big pts.) no lab book allowed, answers are pages long, all hand-written, labs alone are 4-8 hoursweek of hw. Although an A student, barely got a B-
Amazing, inspiring instructor. period. You do have to put some effort to familiarize in her grading rubric. Always try to give you the highest possible point.
It is an awful teacher. Does not help at all. Not clear on the subject. She gives grade to the student that she would like even they are wrong on the test or homework still they would get good grade. Would not recommend her. And not taking her again
Amazing teacher. Loves teaching and her students. Gives homework identical to the quiz. Have to write out ALL of the lab (8-20 pages). Hard class but great teacher. Wouldn't take again because the workload was huge. Be prepared to spend every second on this class. Covers textbook in class, I haven't read it. Be specific in all labs.
Professor Berg is one of the most inspirational chem teachers you will ever have. She really cares about you retaining the information she teaches in class. She will give you multiple opportunities to drop something if you did bad. She will always be willing to work with you outside of class if you confused. 10/10 teacher! Definitely take her
There's basically a formal write-up for every single lab. And there's a quiz on the material before you even start the lab. These quizzes could focus on the background, the procedure, or the math formulas. It's all up for game and I wasted so much time studying unnecessary details. Very strict grading on everything, down to your grammar.
I had Mrs. Berg for the first 2 courses of the chem sequence. She is awesome and is always enthusiastic and excited about what she is teaching. Teaching style is old-fashioned (handwritten labs, no powerpoints, etc.) so if you're one to rely on online resources, stay away. Expect to spend lots of work/time, but she is a fair, even generous grader.
Grades harshly and expects hours and hours of work from you outside of class to understand anything. She's unclear in explaining concepts, going from one to the next on the board without clearly distinguishing the two and every single test throughout the quarter is basically cumulative, she asks you stuff from the material for last time's test.
You've got to hand-write every lab in a notebook and there's a quiz before every lab, so make sure you know the reaction, the procedure, and the materials. Very picky grader, but takes off very little points, so it's still possible to get a good grade. She gives out hw that is pretty much like the test. Overall, solid teacher and a good choice!
She can't put herself in the student's shoes, and so her lectures are often confusing. Long, hard tests and a quiz before every lab. Lab write-ups are very long, often at least ten pages. In the two quarters I've taken her, the entire class has failed two tests. Beware, lots of work.
Mrs. Berg is ... yikes. She expects gen chem 1 students to draw complicated chemical structures perfectly (something only organic chemistry students learn) and marks them down if they're incorrect. She takes off points for the smallest things, has quizzes before every lab, and doesn't use the Canvas grade book. Also, she only writes in cursive.
It seems that her Chem 162 class is a lot easier than her other classes. There is still a ton of homework outside of class, and its tough to finish all that she wants you to do in less than a week. Her quizzes look like exams, and are six pages long and take two hours to finish. If you put in a lot of time and read before class, you'll be fine.
Ms. Berg is very kind, and clearly has a passion for science which back up with lots of knowledge. However, she moved through the class material WAY too quickly. The lab days were jam packed, making it hard to go in depth and understand the concepts in order to do well on the tests. If you make time outside of class, she does really well explaining
Shes a genius, but is old fashion. She writes all her lectures on a board in sloppy writing and moves very quickly. She is always available for extra help and can help re explain things. The textbook is required as in the sense that its a workbook.
Her passion for science is very clear and she is SO caring. She is always willing to meet up outside of class to help and always encourages her students to ask questions. She is a bit old school so she only uses the whiteboard for everything + she writes in cursive. She is also a VERY lenient on grading. Just do the workbook practice + reading!
Professor Berg is a professor who cares a lot about her students in her class. She's always available during her office hours and she is willing to help out those who are struggling in the class. She also gives additional extra credit and career opportunities to us if interested which I think is generous. She may be old school, but she's great.
