hard class, hard test, lectures alot...
not hard, just study medium amount
Nice teacher, knows a lot about PolS. Broke off into debate class, very helpful.
IF YOU LISTEN TO WHAT SHE LECTURES I GUARANTEE AN A!!! WATCH OUT FOR HOT DAYS
Great lecturer. Easy to follow and take notes. Willing to help and listen. A
Debate section very interesting. Learned a lot. she fans herself 24/7

very clear. great sections. great reviews. look out for persperation

medium amount of studying, smart professor, have to study a little for tests
Has review seasons before tests and TA's are very helpful
easy class, great review sessions, get to know your TA,10-15pg paper, easy class!
BORING LECTURES but easy tests...go to the review sessions & go to her website
She's a good professor and a pretty nice lady. Lectures are a little boring but the tests are easy. Discussion section is very helpful. You will learn a lot in this class.
Very easy, class attendance not essential to recieve high grade. Visit web site and you will be fine
She is one of the best around. She gets you involved and she has a passion for her work.
easy upper division class. only one big project, final, and a couple short papers.
great professor, very approachable. Not an easy A but you have better chances here because she gets you to participate and have fun while learning.

easy class
very knowledgable. sessions w/ TAs help before tests. only 3 tests and a paper. final is reg test. multi choice, ids, and small essay. not to bad. never read and barely studied got a B-. can get an A if you try
Great, passionate teacher who uses clips from all types of media to get point across. One major project and a few papers. Pretty easy class.
very approachable and helpful; passionate liberal ideology; very dynamic class, uses real life to teach you; would definately take another class with Dr. K
Kennedy was great! She is passionate about what she teaches and shares that with her students in her lectures. Her notes are all online & on powerpoint, and you can ask her for help with anything. Her tests aren't bad with the study guides, and she works
One of my favorite classes! Very interesting material and she know a lot about the subject. Good use of current events to get her point across. Be sure to do well on the assignments given since your grade isn't made up of that many points.
she speak really fast during lecture. i was in the 500ppl classroom. some of the materials that she make you read, are just 4 u own good. but there is a lot of readin in class. but overall her class was easy!dun miss lecture bc her tests are based on it
Easy A/B--50% fall asleep in class, though if you listen, it's interestin, just take good notes at lecture, read to be thorough, take practice exams online, ask questions at study sessions, ten-pg-paper (don't let that scare you!) +3 tests, knows her ish!
lectures are sooo boring. u never have to go, just go to your section each week. paper was so easy and tests come straight from online quizzes. she was smart, but her material was extremely biased.
some topics are interesting. some of the movies were good, but I fell asleep alot during lectures (most ppl did too). an easy class overall. I wish I'd taken it for letter grade, could've gotten an A.
The main reason why this class was easy is because there was 500+ students. Graduate students do the grading, and if you have someone kick back you'll be fine. The tests are staright from the study guide, you don't really need to cram that much.
Her class is easy. Can't say I learn much of anything from her class. She shows videos all of the time and her lecture notes are on-line, so I didn't go to class much and still got an A. Go to test reviews, she tells you what is going to be on the test
Great professor. Made learning interesting with multimedia and informative lectures. Grades the two main assignments very generously, which are worth half your total grade. Always helpful in and out of class. Extra credit available. Two exams are tough.
a good class for poly sci
Good teacher, easy class....got a 89.3 and got stuck with a B+, kinda bitter about that, but other than that, great teacher...
Two assignments and two tests. Attend class and take notes because the test are mainly lecture based. Easy grader on the two assignments. Gives students the benefit of the doubt. Always responds to emails. Interesting media.
This class overall wasn't that bad. The test are sort of a **** but if you study you will be fine. She's very liberal, so beware!
Very easy class, specially cus I had a very cool T.A. Lots of videos. Study guides, outlines and practice quizzes are online. I didn't learn much though, high school stuff. Didn't like her on a personal basis, she's a *****.
Too liberal for my taste! if you get a cool TA you are set to get an A! go to study sessions she tells you everything to know for exams!
If you don't get an A in this class, you should not be in college! Enjoyed her class but I wish she would be neutral on issues when she teaches.
My my, boring, boring, boring! I don't think she is worth taxpayer $. She simply presented her own Ph.D. work, which she doesn't understand, and had us teach it to the class. She is a nice person but a HORRIBLE teacher. Please go to another school if you can!!!
A really nice Professor. She is an unpredictable grader, but always has a smile on her face. Outside projects take a lot of time throughout the semester.
This is a fun class that creats a wonderful array of interest in those that are trully interested in studying the effects of the mass media in the field of politics. The small political internship (20 hours) that she assigns for the students is very helpful in understanding of how a campaign works.
worst Pol Sci class I have ever taken. learned nothing, but got an A. BS course material with no attempt to be unbiased. Very Lefty
very biased, some of the course material is interesting but her grading style is horible and she doesn't clarify why she gives you the grade you get. Don't bother spending the money on the books she assigns.
As a person, Carole is awesome. She is nice, fair, and willing to listen to your interpretations. While she is obviously very liberal, she does not make conservatives feel unwelcome. The books are useless and the tests are easy. Be warned! 8-10 PAGE RESEARCH PAPER COMING YOUR WAY THOUGH!
She is a good teacher but the computer program SPSS is so hard to learn and u have assignments every week to complete that take over an hour to complete. If u can take an easier course than i would suggest it.
If you do the hour's worth of reading each week and the hour's worth of SPSS, then you should get an A. Nice lady, I hated her sqeeky, ickey, fan though. Squeek, squeek, squeek, for an hour and fifteen minutes.
SHE IS A REALLY GOOD PROFESSOR. HER LECTURES ARE VERY INTERSTING AND EASY TO UNDERSTAND. BUT THE WOMEN GIVES COUNTLESS NUMBERS OF HOMEWORK AND ASSIGNMENTS. FOR SUMMER THERE IS A MIDTERM, FINAL, 2 DEBATED, AND ABOUT 5 RESEARCH PAPERS PLUS LOADS OF READING. SHE IS GOOD, BUT BE PREPARED TO WORK!!!!
Was a new class she was teaching, so her tests were pretty poorly written. Interesting topic, although I feel like anyone politically savvy could pass this class easily. Periodic reading quizzes, midterm/final, research paper. Lectures are dry at times because very little opportunities for participation. Powerpoints posted online. Not bad though.
not the easiest class, but an intersting topic. She's a good professor and knows her stuff. The reading quizzes killed me sometimes, but she doesn't add much weight to them at grading time anyway.
Very interesting, but not easy. b/c quizzes r scantron, but the midterm and final are all bluebooks, YUCK! U better b careful when u try to learn a lot in this class. Also, u got very hard papers. How 'bout that! Carole Kennedy will say MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!!
This class was not too hard! Prof Kennedy was a pretty easy grader when it came to essay midterm/final and Research Paper. Beware of the scantron quizzes though. You MUST read the assigned chapters in order to do well. Very knowledgable and nice lady. A lot of reading, but an interesting subject. Highly recommend!
she was dealing with a lot of personal stuff this semester, so she was off, but she still pulled it together, and we learned a lot and had fun. managed an A even though i got a d on my midterm and half of the quizzes. grades the paper and final easy, and thats half the grade.
OMG!!! What the Heck? I read everyone's comments before taking this class- where is the consistency? I just got done taking her summer American Presidency class. Big waste of time! Everything she said was important wasn't on the test, and everything she said she would not focus on was on the test. No material from the last 3 weeks of class was
First the good. She speaks very clearly and makes good use of electronic media ie. Powerpoint and ECR. The bad. She tried to fit in too much information for a summer course. Also, no material from the last 2 weeks were on the test. I studied her test prep, but non of it was on there final. This was a really bad class. Take or crash another class.
Waste of time. A LOT of videos and none of it on the test. She was very unclear of what would be on the test. I asked the day before and she told me what to studay and one of the four things she told me was on the exam. for a different teacher, schreiber teaches this class and she is great!
If someone were dying I'd recommend they take this class, cuz it lasts an eternity. There were many movies. She will tell you to study all of this stuff and maybe 25% of it will be on the test. This class sucked @$$. Watch out for her notorious debates.
She is cool
this class has a lecture and a discussion section. Go to discussion, its with a TA and thats where most of the work comes from. Kennedy just lectures, and goes off topic.Overall the class was easy. You don't really need the books, she requires 5 but you really only need one so borrow it from a friend. Two exams, somewhat easy and a 7-10 page paper
Easy teacher, just got to class and discussion and you can easly get an A. Exams are EASYYY, just go to the review session before, tells you what is going to be on the exam. overall good teacher, although she goes off topic all the time, read the boooooook!!!!
Make sure before tests that you go to the website assigned with the book and do the practice quizzes. She literally copies and pastes from the website to make her midterm and final. Classes are super boring.
oh gosh what can i say..sitting thru her class was SO hard to do. she's a nice woman, but her class is BORING. i stopped going after a while. but dont worry u dont miss a thing. go to reviews before a test and you'll be fine. do the website quizzes and you'll get at least a B. i ended up with a B+ w/out going to class.
really easy. never went to class. just study the study guide and the wasserman txt and you will get an a. go to the extra credits, theyre pretty interesting and a good way to boost your grade. you definatley need to study for exams, but just use the wasserman website and book and you'll do fine.
She seems like a nice lady but the material is pretty dry. SHe's one of the most knowledgable professors I've come across but the tests are hard to do well on in my opinion and I consider myself an ok student. I got a B in the class but when I thought I knew the material I ended up not doing too hot on the exams. Go to her office hours.
Polisci bores me, but this material, while often dry, is probably the most important stuff you will need to know in the real world. LOTS of reading, a research paper (with deadlines for each step but you learn how to write one in class), a debate, hard tests. DO extra credit and use online practice quizzes! Kennedy is helpful but lectures = meh.
TAKE THIS CLASS. Two exams and a paper comprise your grade. She tells you EXACTLY what is going to be on the midterm. Just study what she tells you. The paper is graded by a section TA. Also, you get an entire percentage point extra credit if you go to a movie, and you can go to up to 10. Thats a free 10% boost to your grade!!
This was a horrible class. Be prepared to listen to all of her personal opinions. This class did not teach me anything except her opinions about the government. The paper you have to write is 7-10 pages of trying to please the reader, not actually research. Also, the books are useless so don't buy them. I didn't and still got and A- in the class.
Lectures really well but can get kinda boring sometimes. Good professor though, however, her lectures don't always cover test material. If she is nice enough to hold a review then I suggest you go. Also go to the website she tells you to go where you can do online quizzes, her midterms consists of these questions.
For PolS majors: Her class was easier than most but you learn so much. Very informative; loved her lectures and reading assignments. For Non-PolS majors: suck it up and learn about the most important subject in your world.
TAKE THIS CLASS! LOTS OF EXTRA CREDIT enough to boost your grade up a whole letter. very interesting. I just took notes, didn't read at all and got an A. if you take notes then your golden, otherwise you'll be confused. the midterm and the final are EXACT questions from this website she gives you to do practice quizes.it shows your wrong answers
eh. sorta boring. lot of work and reading. very nice person.
Horrible!!!!! (Took over the summer) It took her 4 weeks to get grades from first midterm back. Instructions for the 8-10 pg paper? Unclear, and due 2 days before final. Just so that everyone knows the ave. grades: Midterm-83.22, Paper-69.14, Final-70.26 - NO curve on final grades. If you take her, good luck. I've never gotten below a B, until her.
absolutely horrible teacher. She never responds to e-mails and is pretty unclear on what she wants you to know for the exams. The study guides werent even close to what was covered on the exam. The average grade on the research paper was a D with an unclear prompt. 6 week class and we had to read about 2000 pages of material. Do not take!
easy if you read the textbook. kennedy is busy prof. and sometimes your e-mails will get lost. so just be persistent if you need help. she will be more than willing to help but the trick is to get in contact with her! hardest part about this class is the internship. get one early on in the semester
If you don't have to DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! Lectures are very dry and boring. The mandatory "volunteer" assignment sucks and she is an impossible grader for the paper. She is unclear on what she expects and NEVER responds to e-mails. Takes forever to grade...our grades are due tomorrow and she still hasn't finished, so we're left hanging!
She can be hard, but as long as you keep up with the reading you could handle it or pay the price
Dr. Kennedy is a profoundly insightful professor with whom I've had the pleasure of taking many classes. If you're just another lazy summer school loser, spare us all and don't take her classes. She expects you to work hard and learn a lot and if you're only critique of her class is "boring" or "horrible" then you might want to rethink college...
She may not be the warmest professor I've ever had, but if you're in school to learn something (as I assume you are), then I would highly recommend her. Her depth of knowledge in this subject made the class more interesting and made her more likeable. I found myself WILLINGLY reading the texts, esp. the book about President Bush, very good stuff.
Did not respond to any e-mails during the semester, and not very helpful during office hours. Pretty much if you are a male...stay away. She is a hardcore feminist. It interferes with her job. She speaks in a condescending manner about men and does not let you fully express yourself if you have a ****. STAY AWAY.
The textbook is actually interesting. The tests are based mainly on online quizzes, so master those first and you have half the test down. Her grading was super easy on the written responses as well.
Such a nice lady - she tends to ramble a little bit and that information shows up on test, so right down everything she says. Master the multiple choice online quizzes and read the book before tests and it's super easy. No homework or papers. Totally willing to help you out in office hours. Overall good class
While I thought this class was interesting as she kept her students engaged through lectures, debates, etc., she was very inefficient by the end of the class term. Running out of time by the end of the semester, Professor Kennedy rushed to turn grades in, resulting in many students receiving F's on finals that they did not deserve.
STAY AWAY! Avoids her lecture duties by assigning student debates. I don't need or want to be taught by my peers who know nothing about the class. I want a lecture from a Ph.D., not a student! Books are ridiculous and entirely subjective. Assignments are beyond UNCLEAR,and very VAGUE. IMPOSSIBLE GRADER.
She is a fair teacher and if you talk to her she will go out of her way to make sure you do well. Watch the movies in class, or in RBR or if you are tech savvy download them. Watch them early and take good notes. Don't forget to read, there are random quizzes.Three papers no exams.
Took this class for Course Forgiveness and went from and F to an A. She makes it easy to do well and will change lesson plans and syllabus based on student opinion. She wants you to do well and enjoys seeing her students succeed.
class was really interesting. much easier than 101 if you take w/ kennedy. lecture attendance not mandatory but sect is. exams are easy & come directly from the book, so reading is important. she changes her tests around to help her students do better. typically 30 mult choice and 4-5 short answers which are not hard if you study. highly recommend
Considering this was a lower division course, it was extremely difficult. Avoid taking in the summer. Reading is mandatory. Four exams in total. Class attendance on the first day. Professor seemed disenchanted by her student's lack of interest in politics. My two cents? READ and take very good notes.
Her power points were clear cut and very easy to understand without going into too much detail. Her tests were pretty good; there were a couple of questions on the test that I personally felt were out of the blue (or else there was a 'better' answer) but for the most part, she was a great professor, I would take her again.
Horrible. Her tests through out the year easy if your not an idiot. But her final is entirely different, nothing like her other tests and she switches up on what she tests about, its the stuff in the book and that is just random talk, like an intro not any of the actual material you learn.
Professor Kennedy is friendly, and easy to approach. The class is easy, but the midterm and final can be difficult if you are not prepared. They're essay questions, but she was vague on what the questions would pertain to prior to the test. Beyond that, the debates are enjoyable, and she shows a good amount of movies.
I was very disappointed. Book summarization dominated lecture - sans elaboration. Connecting words enhanced flow, but logically & topically presentations were very disjointed. 25% of each test is unimportant trivial details. Many earned a C or B without going to class; they read the book and got notes from others.
Very easy professor, really cares about her students. If the class isn't ready for the test, she allows a day of review in class to go over everything. The course material is pretty easy to understand and she uses same types of questions from the homework on the quizzes and tests. Open book, open notebook for tests and quizzes. Lovely lady, too.
Really easy class. Show up to class and actually try on the homework, and you should get at least a B. Weekly quizzes, and all quizzes and tests are open book and open note. Not responsive to e-mail, but Prof Kennedy is a very sweet person! She'll work with you if you have a legit reason for missing class.
Easy class. Do the online homework(guaranteed 100%, takes a while) and quizzes(2 tries, not timed) and do decent on the tests and you will get an "A". Lectures(strict to chapter) pretty dry and boring, not completely necessary to attend. Nice lady, pretty helpful, doesn't let her political affiliations influence teaching. Bring a jacket to class.
3 midterms, 1 final (noncumulative). She's really nice and the material is fairly easy if you've taken AP government in high school. If you actually do all the hw and try to get 100% on the quizzes, they're definitely easy grade boosters!
Course is "easy" if you do well on the online assignments, but when it came to the tests, she put questions on it that the entire class would challenge her on with legitimate arguments (i.e. "the book clearly states this, but it was marked wrong") and she would NOT budge. Challenge her on blue book Free response grades, she usually bumps them up.
A really easy class. Just read and went to class only when there's a test. Got a B. Test questions are straightforward. Dr. K is nice.
Great teacher and is passionate about the class. i got a B and i put in very minimal effort. She uses power points every lecture, they are actually kind of interesting and kept my attention. Tests are basic and cover the lectures. I NEVER READ THE BOOK. make sure to do all the homework, its what got me the B. all in all... Awesome teacher.
easy class. u do need the book but quizzes are online and so are the modules. just 3 exams and ur done super easy take this professor and u do not really have to go to class
did minimal work and got a B. Tests aren't too hard. Fair grader. Attendance is not mandatory, i missed a few classes and was fine. I didn't study much either, only the night before each exam.
Your grade is based off of 4 tests&online hw assignments.I got 99-100% on quizzes&modules & practically bombed the tests&still passed with a C.Skimmed through book when taking quiz online but never read the book.I'm sure if you work hard&are a good test taker this class will b a breeze. She doesn't take role&lectures are BORING. She's nice though.
She's nice and does not seem strict at all. There are a few exams that you can ace that come along with identifying 4 out of 6 key term each time. She does have Learnsmart modules and online quizzes.Make sure you study! Understand what she is explaining too because it can get confusing. Her class can be boring, but if you have to, take this class.
First, I NEVER rate my professors. Second, I'm an honors student. This professor is AWFUL. She was gone for at least 3 weeks, and when she was in class, she screened documentaries that aren't helpful at all for papers or exams. Promised a study guide for final, changed her mind literally a week before exams. AVOID.
Most boring teacher ever, lectures were almost torturing to attend.Power points are straight copy and pasted on. Small lecture is mandatory. Never gave out study guides.
Dr. Kennedy is a total sweetheart! She truly has a passion for the subject and as long as you pay attention in lecture it's an easy A. Attendance is not mandatory but if you go to lecture and take notes you don't have to read the text. All homework and quizzes are online and you get multiple tries. There are three non-cumulative exams that are based off the quizzes.
Kennedy is hands down the most passive aggressive, unhelpful professor ever. She says attendance is not mandatory but she will have "1 minute papers" randomly worth 20% of your grade. But what that really means, when the class looks empty she will give a paper. TRIES TO SKREW OVER HER CLASS
Her exams are ludicrous. When questions are vague. she expects her students to interpret questions EXACTLY the way she does. Gives no study guides. RUDE to her students and hides it behind her 'enthusiastic' personality. I never rate any professors, but I had to come on here to say that she is probably the worse by far.
Class is structured to make it an impossible A or A-. 2 midterms, 1 final, each worth 20% of your grade. Basically, tests (which are HARD) are worth 60%. 20% is random in-class essays, which can't be made up if you miss class. 20% is online modules and quizzes (easy). Not a very considerate grader. Be prepared to study your ass off for a B or B-
Your grade is based off of 2 midterms, a final, online homework/quizzes and in class "minute" papers. The online work and papers are really easy, although she never tells you when you will have a paper, so attendance is mandatory. But the tests are HARD. All the answers are right, but she expects you to choose HER version of the "best" answer.
Her power point slides are EXACTLY like the textbook. So if you're planning on going to class all the time, which I recommend because she has random "minute papers" then you probably don't need it. As long as you take good notes and pay attention (the power points are pretty vague and just say the concept, not all the info). & She goes really fast!
This class was not as easy as I was expecting it to be. The first test caught me completely off guard because of the way she words her questions and answers. There are connect assignments and quizzes which are pretty easy and attendance isn't mandatory, but she'll sometimes have a "one minute paper" that she won't let you make up.
She is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. She is extremely rude to her students when questions are asked. Her lectures are boring and they come straight from the powerpoints. Her tests are way too difficult, especially with the wording. Sometimes, questions are not even relevant to the chapters. Never rated anyone before, she is that bad!!!
Do NOT take this professor! She is extremely rude to her students! Plus she's EXTREMELY left wing. She had us read an article titled "why republicans are wrong". And we watched videos making fun of republicans and then we had 1 min papers on them! Honestly I've felt so disrespected by a professor. She treats her classroom like a soapbox.
Go to class!! Your grade depends on it. Easy online homework points and in-class quizzes. Tests are pulled from random resources and her diction is quite confusing. Study the book relatively well and you can get an A.
She really wants to help everyone out. She gave us a big study guide for all the tests and did a final review for the last test. She is hard of hearing making it hard to ask questions in class. Her tests are hard, but she is willing to help anyone that needs it. You don"t read the textbook in class, but you need it for the tests
This class is a lot of reading and make sure you do the online assignments
Easy class for me. Do the online quizzes once a week and extra credit for each exam and you'll pass with an A. You don't need to read the book as long as you go to lectures. She'll show videos during lectures sometimes and ask questions about them on exams. Although she tries to show both sides of arguments, she definitely leans to the left.
Lectures ParaphrasesReads power points for 80 minutes straight. Occasional video clips from John Stewart Colbert Report. HW (reading and quiz) is due weekly through blackboard smartbook. Plenty of extra credit opportunities to boost test grades.
MUST READ THE TEXTBOOK for a B in the class, go to class for a A. Everything she says in class is on the test, 90% textbook 10% she verbally says. She gives out extra credit opportunities for every exam except the final which has 2 options written essay with volunteer work or multiple choice. You have 2 weekly homework assignments that are easy.
WORST CLASS EVER. HER TESTS ARE PRACTICALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO PASS. ALL THE OPTIONS ON HER TESTS ARE ALIKE AND ONLY ONE IS HER PREFERENCE. DO NOT TAKE
She is not a bad professor, but she is terrible when it comes to tests. She provides studies guides for each chapter that take hours to review and complete, but in the end they are not helpful because 90% of the test does not contain the material that she includes in these study guides. Wording is also very vague and not clear.
I'm failing this course and don't want the same thing to happened to you. I'm comp sci major with 3.8 GPA and have been on the deans list for the past 8 semesters. Hence, I am failing this course with consistent F's on her exams. This is by far the most time consuming class I ever took and the only class that I am failing, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF!!!
Avoid this calls at all costs ! This is the toughest GE class that I've ever took, and I'm a comp sci major and math minor. Her lectures are straight from the book and very boring. Her weekly homeworks are long, 3-4 hours in average. Her exams are confusingly worded tricky, and unrelated to the exam study guides. Pls avoid this professor!
I liked her in lecture but her tests are often tricky. It is a lot of work but I feel like I learned the material well.
The main reason I am not too fond on Kennedy is due to her very tricky tactics she uses for her tests. Pols 102 is one of the core classes to graduate(for the most part) so you will see what I mean once you take her. Grading consists of three exams, section attendance, and online Homeworkquizzes. Very easy to get a B, gotta work for that A!
I thought she was great plenty of extra cred opportunities. Each test extra cred was possible. Hmw gives you 2 tries, no reason not to get 100% like I did on almost all of my online quizzes, that's right online, and not timed. Go talk to her, that is your biggest advantage, you can debate paper grades as well. hard not to pass with an "A"if uwork
Kennedy is very unclear as a professor and purposely tries to trick students on exams. Questions are very vague and often have multiple answers even her T.A.'s admit to this. I suggest avoiding this professor at all costs. What was worse was when I simply wanted to go over my final exam she refused to simply let me see what I missed. Inexcusable.
3 tests with no cumulative final. Opportunity to get 10 points extra credit for each test so make sure to do it. Go to lecture to get clicker points and go to small section to get participation points. Only homework is quizzes once a week online with 2 attempts so you can get 100. Make sure she knows who you are she wants you to succeed!
Overall the class wasn't too bad. The subjects were really interesting and I learned a lot. The only complaint is how ridiculously hard her tests are. She expects us to remember so much and asks very tricky questions on the test just to try and confuse us. I highly recommend doing every extra credit opportunity she offers per test!
Enjoyed this class, super easy. Only annoying part: memorizing all the amendments and court cases. So. Many. Besides that, easy online HW quizzes and lecture attendance points are done via clicker. Her exams are about low to average difficulty. Do extra credit so you get extra points for your exams. No cumulative final.
Kennedy was quite the character! She is super passionate about politics, and that's what really made the class so interesting for me. It won't be the same for everyone, because obviously not everyone is fired up about politics, but take this class if you want to become more informed! She offers extra credit and is more than willing to help you out!
Ridiculously favors the left wing in her lectures. Gives extra credit for each test. Can find the homework on quizlet. She's a good teacher whose lectures give you a good idea of what to expect on the midterms. Increased my interest in recent political activity by discussing relevant events .
hmk (chap q's insane amount, must read for a's) must answer all right before receiving full credit on top of that chap quiz each week too. multi attempts, time? Ft student, ft working, &doing upper div. Never had so much work for a ge class not majoring in ps. reviews out of class time don't go? Fail. EC attend events, no time. unwilling to help.
If you are not interested in political science DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. You have at least 40 pages of reading along with a reaction paper and two homework assignments due each week! Attendance is mandatory and her lectures are not very helpful for studying. Too much work for a GE class. She expects everyone to love political science like she does.
Very clear on what is expected of you but the lectures are long and boring. Tests require lots of studying and you must read the book. Not skim. Read. Thoroughly. The first class she basically told us to do the extra credit or we would not pass. Raised my grade a full letter.
I hate political science but I don't hate this class. Kennedy can be really nice, but then really mean, and then be really nice again all in a couple minutes. Mostly nice though. She is an entertaining teacher with how passionate she is about politics
I had to really work for a good grade. This course was great, I came out learning a lot. Professor Kennedy is an amazing professor who is passionate about Political Science. This is an very informative class
She's really passionate and gives good lectures. Attendance is mandatory, if you want the points. I missed two post online quizzes and I still got an A.
Great professor, tough class. There's an insane amount of material covered in this course. Tests are very difficult but the extra credit really helps. She's very passionate and informative. She also assigns a lot of homework and reading. If you do all the assignments, extra credit and actually read you will pass the class but don't expect an easy A
Great professor for a tough class! Test are tough, so make sure to do ALL the EC (they bump you one letter grade). Go to class because she DOES take attendance (easy points for your grade). Also, do all the inquizitive HW if you want to do well on exams. If you do this, reading the textbook is out of the picture!
I really enjoyed Professor Kennedy's online class. Its a 102 course so expect to read, expect to write, expect to be tested on some obscure facts, and expect to learn a lot that you never knew before about American politics. She really seems to care about her students who care about doing well so don't be afraid to say hi.
Prof kennedy truly has good intentions. Her lectures are so long and boring but read the book and you'll do fine. her first test was brutally hard but she always offers 10 points extra credit to be added on to each one so DO IT. You'll learn a lot from her and she's kind of funny so enjoy it
You absolutely need the book for this class. There are weekly assignments due, one is a chapter post-test (quizlet has answers) and the other is inquisitive. Lectures are pretty boring, but hey thats politics. The three tests are worth 60% of the class, occasionally can be unrelated to lectures. Learn from my mistake and do the extra credit!
Kennedey is a great professor because she is passionate about her subject, which makes lectures interesting. She made me more interested in Poli sci. The tests are worth a lot, so its important to study, and read the book. Tests can be quite hard, but if you do the extra credit you will earn an extra 10% on them, which is a full letter grade.
The workload for this class is definitely heavy, online quizzes, reading, and tests weekly, but it is essential to understanding the course material. Tests are difficult, but Kennedy is truly knowledgable about the subject and is always available for extra help. This course may be work heavy, but it is very informative and useful.
Sweetest professor I've had in a long time. She is very intelligent, too!! She does use CourseKey to check attendance but is very understanding if you forget to check in/check out. I missed checking in a lot but she trusted me and gave me full attendance credit. I really like her teaching style + how she keeps the class up on current events too!
Don't take this class if you don't like/understand politics. She's knowledgeable about the subject and pretty nice, but the lectures are long. There is also tons of extra reading along with the homework every week. The exams are hard and tricky. You also need the textbook for homework and attendance is part of your grade.
This class was a handful. 2 textbooks, read 1-2 chapters, & do 1-2 modules and a quiz per week. Test #1 was brutal but they were all hard. No leniency on attendance, not even 1 day, yet she skipped on 2 weeks bc she was ill which hurt students trying to raise their grade. She's definitely knowledgeable & I recommend looking at your test if you can
She is a good professor and is really knowledgeable about the subject. That being said, she expects you to be as passionate about the subject as she is. The tests have random details that one would not have an idea to study. I took this class in a 6-week online, summer session so that could explain the immense amount of detailed material.
For this to be an entry level class, it is tough!! So much reading its ridiculous. She expects you to remember every little detail of everything you have to read. 3 test, class quizzes, lots of homework, and one essay. The only positive thing about this class is that you have the chance to get extra credit. You are definitely going to need it!
She tests you on information made up by her. If you're not far left, this class is not for you. Skip the headache. Homework is way too frustrating.
I hated her at first but learned to like her because she is so passionate about what she teaches. Just make sure to check all Friday and Homework assignments because for the first 3 weeks I missed Chapter POST tests because there is so much homework on blackboard. Once you get the hang of assignments it is easy.
Dr. Kennedy is a very caring professor who definitely knows her stuff. If you're looking for an easy A, you probably shouldn't take this class. She gives a ton of work; homework and additional reading. Doesn't tolerate BS. She's a tough grader and there's an essay worth 25% of your grade, but she's very helpful. Take if you actually wanna learn.
Trust me the reviews on here are do not express how much busy work you will do for this class. I took it pass/fail and unless you want a minimum 3-7 hw assignments per week that take 30 min each, avoid this class. The hw takes 30 min minimum if you already read the textbook but on average will be about 30 questions. Tests consist of random facts
I took this class my first semester as SDSU. From day 1 I could tell I wasn't going to like it. The first issue is her slides are so long you don't have time to take notes on them. She also gives a lot of homework and tests are quite difficult. I stopped showing up (only class I ever missed) because it was very boring and I wasn't learning
Her slides have a ridiculous amount of info on them it is impossible to write everything down. I suggest printing the powerpoints or taking the notes prior. The tests are hard however she gives you 10% extra credit if you attend an event on campus and write 500 words on it. She uses course key for attendance. Overall not a bad class if you try.
By far the hardest lower division class I've taken here at state. Lecture is boring. She gives a ridiculous amount of homework each week and the reading is non stop. Test are way to hard as she included questions from specific articles even though she assigned like a million of them for us to read. Take this course with someone else!
Shes really kind but when it comes to homework or quizzes you missed, theres no mercy. Also, your grade highly depends on an essay you have to write which in my opinion she graded very harshly. This brought my grade down so much and I didnt find the essay helpful at all compared to helpfulness of tests. Be ready for heavy reading and quizzes.
She's a nice person but a terribly difficult grader. For someone who has terrible grammar and rhetoric skills she harshly grades an analytical essay for 25% of your grade. Overly complicated class for no reason.
This class is by far one of the hardest classes I have ever taken at state. There is so much busy work to do that doesn't even reflect material that is on the test. The test is very weirdly formatted and very hard. The analytical essay that she assigns is graded very harshly. I am in a writing class, so I would expect to get at least a C, but no!
The final exam was very nit picky and was based off of primarily things outside the study guide that we barely discussed. Nobody I know of did better than a D on their required essay and she has a lot of technical issues. Overall very boring and not helpful.
Dr. Kennedy seems like a very knowledgeable and kind professor, but the class was not great. First, we had to mediate for the first ten minutes of class every time. Second, she seemed unorganized and class never felt very serious. Most of the class is spent with diff groups presenting a chapter from the book, but not a hard class.
There are weekly quizzes based on the reading from 2 different textbooks. Your grade is mostly based on the midterm, final, and essay. Make sure to do the extra credit, and try to get it done early since you don't know how many events there are. Attendance is a must and lectures are just read off a powerpoint.
tough grader. lots of work. nitpicks on little details and focuses on things in the text that seem unimportant. avoid at all costs. l can't imagine anyone being worse
Attendance is mandatory because you sign into a website that checks your location. Weekly quizzes and online assignments that are easy to get 100 on and boost your grade. Two analytical essays that are only 500-700 words and are easy. The only annoying thing is how specific the midterm and final are.
Alright lecturer. The exam will have questions outside of the textbook so be sure to read or watch any supplementary material she gives you. Not sure if shes gonna do this again but the final was literally word-for-word a combination of the first and second midterm.
Attendance is a must! Tophat checks location. Lectures are not THAT bad. She knows a lot about politics, but she has a clear bias. Do the supplementary reading listed in the syllabus to do good on reading quizzes and tests. Weekly hw and quiz is super easy, and they boost your grade. Overall not a really fun class BUT not as hard as people think.
It is evident Kennedy is knowledgable about Pol Sci and her class was interesting, but very lecture heavy. Inquizitives every week, along with post tests. There are also reading quizzes and 2 exams (not including the final). We were able to participate in a political campaign and write a report instead of taking the final. Not too bad of a class.
Dr. k is nice when you go to office hours, in class she will seem a little rude and harsh but it is just because some students are disrespectful. It is a lot of homework weekly but everything is on quizlet. The POST-TEST help for the exams. She throws a LOT of information and the course material goes extremely fast and it is a lot to learn.
There are quizzes and homework activities due every Sunday but they're really easy. Use quizlet. The class is easy and the lectures aren't necessary, especially because they're more opinionated than factual. I wouldn't recommend this class but it's probably easier than other poli sci classes that require essays.
Went through a lot of material. Need to read textbook for tests. 2 tests, 3 quizzes, and 2 short essays. Weekly inquisitives and post tests. Very helpful during office hours. Uses the website Tophat to take attendance and for tests.
Used to hate political science until I took this class. It is a lot of homework, but you learn so much necessary info about your rights, SC cases etc. You can tell she is passionate about what she teaches and it inspires you to be too. Don't take her class if you want an easy A, take her class if you genuinely want to learn
Super sweet lady who is very passionate about her topic. Checks attendance on an app sometimes multiple times in a class. Lots of reading material and homework but its helpful and easy. Her tests were super hard so I suggest studying days in advance
A few reading quizzes that are somewhat random so you have to stay up to date, one midterm worth 20% and final worth 30% cumulative, and two homeworks due basically every Sunday. Attendance is graded since she takes role at the beginning by code and proximity to other students. Final and midterm have essay and multiple choice sections
YOU MUST READ THE TEXTBOOK to PASS the class. Homework and Chapter-post test easy points & 1 Mid-Term & 1 Final exam but both HEAVY with 2 essay exam in the Section class.!
Worst teacher I have ever taken. Assigns so many articles and papers and expects you to know the smallest details from every one of them. Does not care about her students at all. She has so many technical issues and forces you to use dysfunctional software then says it's your problem not hers when it doesnt work. I would not ever take her again.
Really really really bad class. Frontloads her course with busy work that really has no value at all, and her tests and quizzes are full of the tiniest details that you don't even need to know. Lack of empathy for her students, only cares about deadlines and following rules. Do not take this class if you respect yourself and your gpa.
She is a horrible teacher that lacks empathy. She expects you to figure out everything on your own and she gives you the hand if you need help. Never take her class, her lectures are so long and you will feel like you are falling behind in your reading. She makes you remember every single detail about the extra readings which is unnecessary.
I do not recommend taking her because the tests are full of specific questions that 80% of the class will get wrong and she will blame the class for not trying hard enough. She also has you read a bunch of random articles and will do quizzes on them, even though they have no value. She uses TopHat for attendance and the subscription was 30$
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH KENNEDY I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH KENNEDY! She lectures like we're already supposed to know what she's talking about and does not explain or elaborate at all. She also lectures very fast making you feel like you're falling behind. Tests are HARD and she does not prepare you for them. She is a VERY TOUGH grader
You are on your own in this class. 90% online content and lectures are pointless. Make sure to go to the writing center for analytical essays, it really helps. Inquisitives, Tests, and Friday assignments every week! Course is based on two textbooks so a lot of reading, she cancels class frequently and never gives exceptions for deadlines.
Trash. Do not take her. She is rude and completely leaves you stranded. Her lectures are awful and she expects you to know way more than a semester's worth of information for the tests. My only regret in this class is not dropping it when I had the chance.
This is by far the worst professor I have ever had at sdsu. She does not care about her students doing well, and she is the most unorganized person I've ever met. Avoid this lady at all costs. She needs to be re-evaluated as a teacher.
She shows no remorse for students, very hard grader. Tests are ridiculous, so much material put into one test. Very difficult to pass this class.
Thumbs down
She is rude, she doesn't care about the students effort, she makes you buy a book, and a tophat, I cannot say it any other way, she is awful. Avoid her class if you can help it. she does not look like, she likes to teach. I don't understand why she teaches.
This class is way more work than a 100 level class should be, she gives so much busy work and does not put in an effort to help out her students. Her lectures are extremely lengthy and boring. Her tests are overly hard. This class is not worth taking. Find another class to fill your requirement because you could get much better and easier classes.
This class is ridiculously hard, there's so much work to do. You have to do a chapter quiz per week, inquizitives, watch documentaries, read the book and some articles. There's also two analytical essays and her tests are really difficult since she includes material from the documentaries and the additional readings.
Probably the worst Professor on the planet and that isn't an exaggeration. Lectures are horrible, she reads off the Powerpoint and that's it. Her guidelines and rubric for the essays were unclear, there was really no "question" to the essays and grades it very poorly. Got over 90% on every assignment, attended every class, still ended up with a B.
I have never taken a professor that was so rude and uncaring towards the students. Her class consists of lectures where she read from the screen, unnecessary weekly homework and quizzes, and tests that is ridiculously hard. I question that she even taught us half the stuff that is on the tests. She is AWFUL. save yourself and your GPA...
I got straight A's and this C-, save your GPA and never take her !!!! She does not try at all and is so mean. I attended every lecture and did every homework assignment, but she makes the exams so unnecessarily hard and I received an overall C-, & I put in a lot of effort. Save yourself from this class!!!
Do not take this professor. All her homework's are online which is pretty easy and straightforward including the quizzes however she does grade pretty harsh when it comes to the essays. she makes you write an analytical essay, but grades it horribly. you can have an A by doing all the work and because of the essay you will get a C-
The worst professor I have had so far at SDSU. Gives ambiguous instructions for every assignment, her system is hard as hell to understand, and shes just a mean person. She doesnt care about her students, doesnt respond to emails, and does not make herself available for clarification. Avoid this professor at all costs if you value your sanity.
After receiving 100% on all assignments and quizzes taken, she gave me a C because of a stupid analytical essay that she basically gave a failing grade to the entire class. do not take her because you will hate it, she never responds to your emails and if she does she will say "it is what it is" no compassion for her students
Studied for this class and did well on the quizzes and homework which put me at a B in the class. Then graded analytical essay before finals week( which was graded harshly and said to not follow assignment) and this dropped me 7%. Hard class and a hard grader and is very strict with almost everything. 100% do not recommend.
Just don't take this class. :(
Attendance: 10% Assignments&quizzes: 10% Essay: 20% Midterm: 25% Final: 35% Any one thing that's not Attendance or Assignments can tank your grade so I highly advise against taking this professor.
This professor is the least understanding person I've ever met. If you want someone who doesn't value your emotions this is your best choice. Her lectures count for your grade but you won't learn anything unless you do it yourself.
I wish I could give her a 0/5!! This professor is awful! I have never met someone so rude. She will test you on things that were never taught. She wants you to fail!
This woman treats the class as if it's for a masters program. It's a general education class. Way too much workload and way too critical.
She is super unorganized and does not care about her students whatsoever. Whenever she messes up its whatever but whenever we make any mistakes she doesnt care why we made mistakes even if it was her fault. If yall like failing this class is for you
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. She doesn't care for her students. She is very hard on grading. She uses a lockdown browser for tests. Your grade is based heavily on two exams and an essay that no one in my class got a grade higher than 80%. She does curve her tests heavily which only barely helps.
Professor Kennedy hates when someone asks questions during class and dont dare ask any questions that may already be on the syllabus because she will direct you to find the answer there. She held a study session and did not cover the material that was actually on the test for the final she provided no study session.
Honestly one of the best professors I've ever had. Very flexible and understanding w COVID changes and challenges for students. Amazing at making connection to current events. So funny and made things easy to breakdown.
I had a B in this class before my essay went in . I have great grades in all my other courses at state, but if you want to save your GPA dont waste your time. You could be doing great all year and you will end with nothing higher then a C , she makes sure of that. She doesnt read the essays and just slaps a grade on it that makes your grade tank.
The class itself was not difficult as long as students are willing to put in the time to reading the textbooks, completing the homework, and studying for two exams. The grade was based solely on attendance, homework, two exams, and a paper. The essay was unclear and she was a tough grader (average is roughly a 70%) .
This is by far the worst professor I have ever endured. She is extremely uncaring, disorganized, and she treated my grade and myself so badly that at one point I considered leaving San Diego State. She does not read the essays and will randomly assign you a grade, assigns so many quizzes and tests, and is overall not someone you want to learn from.
