Really difficulty material, but Prof Doty tries to make it understandable. Very nice lady and always willing to help.
I couldnt stand her, horrible teacher. Unclear. Most of class droped the course within the first week.

I am sooo sorry I took this class without finding out who teaches it. She is the absolute worst. She insults the class regularly. Tells us that we should have learned this stuff in elementary school. I am getting A's in everything but failing her class. gotta take it again.

Class is not boring. She is an interesting lady with funny stories and comments. Unfortunately they do not have to do with math. She tries to be helpful but may be a bit confusing. I didn''t even have the book and I got an A anyway. If you have a hard time with math I would avoid. Otherwise fun.
She is evil, the class was hard. She made it harder. Don't take this class....if you know what is good for you.

very good teacher, she spent more that enough time on each chapter (too much) all the test came from the book,and everyday the class knew more and more about her life.
Horrible! She is unclear, and gets angered when you ask for help. She is supposed to teach, and not get annoyed when someone asks for help.
She moves way too fast and I didnt understand a thing. She is a SUPER hard grader and screwed my average even though I did just barely pass the class.
I had Pro. Dotty for calc 1... She doesn't explain to help you understand, she teaches by "theorys" & not examples. Tests are very hard. Half of my class withdrew or transfered out. She's is nice & interesting lady, but I don't recommend if you're trying to get a decent education.
This is the first teacher I've ever encountered that was proud of the number of students who dropped her class. Her pride and joy is one class where there was nobody left to take the final.
Impatient, moves WAY too fast and tells you to NOT tell her she's going too fast. Not at all a good professor. I dropped her class, went with another professor, and got an A.
She is not a great classroom teacher, but her tests are straight from the book. With each introduction to a new chapter, she tries to explain it with some real-life example, which is really confusing. Just read the book and do the problems because they are identical to those on the tests. Bring a calculator!
She is great in getting you ready for 119 and the basic skills test but you can't really miss a class or you will be lost. Other than that she answers questions and reviews for tests. I would take her again in a minute!

Very good and fair professor. She is clear and answers any questions the students have. The tests are challenging but not impossible. You have to go to class AND do some work on your own to learn the material-that is the nature of any math class. I would happily take another class with her. She also has a fun, cynical sense of humor..very nice.
If you come to class,pay attention and participate,read the text and hand in assignments on time,and study for the tests,you will do fine.If you want a basket-weaving course which will be of little or no value in the real world,this ain't it.If you want an introductory course in statistics that will give you skills that you can use,then this is it.

If you want to avoid doing actual college level work avoid her. If you can not add on your fingers and toes avoid her. If you understand some math and are not trying to completely avoid doing any hard work take her. She loves math and is very helpful if you do the work. She isn't easy but wants you to learn and she isn't impossible.
this professor is very easy, i dont know why people fail her class, they are really stupid, if you can add, you will pass this class, just do your homework and listen in class, she said it is impossible to get A on her tests, i got A+ as an average, so yeah take her, at least you ll understand the subject better, good luck
You might as well live at the ALC while taking her class, they actually review and listen to your questions and try to help...its the only why you'll pass. Start reviewing for her final way in advance because she wont. everything is out of the textbook.
The tests she had were pretty easy but her teaching wasn't great. She tells you what you're learning and does examples.

One of the worst professors I have ever had and made my experience at UCC a bittersweet one. Her explanation of statistics leaves one more confused than when the class first started. She needs a new method of teaching. Most of her students fail her classes because of the way she teaches. Keep your money and find another professor. Don't take her

She goes way too fast, and gives off the sense that you should know as much as she does. She seems very unapproachable, but she always helps in her office hours. She's really sweet, but tough and fast. This is coming from a guy who loves math and algebra. Steer clear if you can, but be prepared to make time for tutoring if you're taking her class.
It's true that she's not easy and moves fast, but math is not a piece of cake and this is COLLEGE. You can't just show up to class and not put in any extra time of your own and expect to do well--and any class that does allow you do that won't really prepare you. Go to the ALC and do the HW and you'll be fine. Test problems are from the book.
WORST TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD.. by a lot. terrible explanations, condescends when you ask a question, never explains further, uses excuse: "we have to move on." Does not help, hardest grader, no partial credit. AVOID!!
I used to like math. When I took Doty it went shot to heck. She goes off topic so much it's crazy. She's not helpful at all. At the end of the year she asked us why we didn't get so far. That's cause she wasted 30 minutes talking about what kind of car to get an other non math things. Gee I wonder why we didn't finish either.
This was my last math requirement and I learned nothing! I wish I would've seen these reviews before I took this course I definitely would've taken a different professor.

AWFUL TEACHER!A lot of people told me that she was a horrible teacher, and I had no choice but to take her class. She doesn't answer your questions and expects you to stay later in class when class is done, but when your taking her test, she wants you to hand it in right when class is over. DONT TAKE she makes u feel stupid.
I admit that she is a difficult teacher, but if you know your basics, you'll be fine. You have to do exercises on your own to understand the lessons better

hardest math professor thus far if you are not a math wiz get comfy w/ the A L C & focus on her assignments she does NOT accept your questions or concerns regarding the course if you were not in class regardless your circumstances i found her extremely rude and unwilling to help test are difficult i would not recommend

Summer classes are usually fast, but she gives you 3 chapters in one day. And starts giving lecture while you are on a test. Gives you tests one day after the other and expects you to do well on the final
Very fast paced! If you have her do all the homework and before the tests do all the chapter tests. Beat it into your head. Got a B+ in her class then when I took 143/144 it was a cake walk. Have her for 171 next semester. Guess it will make Calc 2,3,4 seem easier.
Prof Doty is a strict prof, but she is not unfair. If you approach her with time she will help you understand the subject.
Well, Another one has fallen victim to the toughest math teacher. Do not take MAT 171 with her. Only a couple of students are actually passing. You will get lost in her lectures. STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Professor Doty is absolutely the sweetest professor. Her students disrespect her in class, instead of listening. HOWEVER, IF YOU respect her, she WILL help you. She OFFERED and allowed me to take an exam because I was sick, I don't know any professors that caring. She even allowed me to skip class when I asked to, because I was donating blood.

She is a really unfair grader. Lectures are long and tedious, it's like listening to a robot. Hint: Do not take her class.
If you study you will do fine but she is a very tough grader and would not recommender her; in the end if you can't pass math meant for 6 years olds I believe that's be your fault, not the teachers.

Don't take her class. She won't explain again if you ask her to. She has an attitude and it seems like she hates teaching. I did my homework, that's how I got ok grades on tests but I was so close to a B and she gave me a C.
Your semester grade was based upon 4 tests, the last of which being the final. She gave no quizzes and her homework was preset. She rambles on and does little to teach. Taught myself the whole textbook. Run.

I took her for Calc 1, and it was completely horrible.! I consider myself a math person, and I still had a hard time.! I passed her class because I taught myself everything.!
I hate never disliked math so much. She distributes a list of all homework assignments at the start of the semester, says it's mandatory, yet never checks anything for credit. Tests and quizzes can come off cryptic/confusing. Her way of saying she is not going to baby you is the equivalent to not helping you at all; Is fine with failing students.
Horrible Teacher. She does not take the time to go over the problems with you. Your grade depends on 3 tests and she is a tough grader. She once was frustrated at our class for not understanding the lesson so she sped up her teaching. Mostly everyone in the class was failing because her teaching methods are not good. No extra credit.

She didn't even want to help and doesn't seems like she cares at all. Many students failed the class and dropped out when they had the chance. I failed this course. No help whatsoever. Very tough grader as well.
Received A's in 011, 015, & 016, failed her class. She is someone who feels EVERYONE should love math, and everyone should devote all time and energy to this course alone. If you already have a clear understanding of math, you an probably get through it, but if you need help in the subject, forget it. She has no interest in helping.
Professor Doty is very friendly and approachable. She provides late withdrawls if needed. Had her for statistics, which is a very challenging course, but if you show up, and show dedication and effort she notices!. MUST HAVE BOOK!!!, AND DO ALL HOMEWORK!!! Class is intense!, but shes real friendly!
By far the worst teacher I ever had. Teaches so fast without explaining and expects you to do good. Started the semester with 28 classmates and right before I withdrawled there was 6 students left in the class. Good luck to them. STAY AWAY FROM HERE OR YOU WILL FAIL !!!!!
Very intelligent in math, but goes way to fast. Most studying will be done outside of class. Homework is optional, but if you don't do it you will fail. Recommend going down to the ALC for this teacher. Also gives a boatload of extra credit assignments. If your struggling before halfway through he semester, drop the corse.
Professor Doty is a good person, but not a good professor. I went from an A in calc I to an F in calc II. She would shame our class by saying that we needed to go back to take algebra. She often makes mistakes during lectures. She dissect problems and write across the entire board and then say, " Oh but, you don't need to know that".
Professor Doty is an old-fashioned professor. There is a challenge and it will prepare you for higher math and the four year. That being said, lectures tend to go off on tangents and there is little explanation to concepts. The main challenge is showing every little detail of work, even if another professor wouldn't mark off skipping small steps.
This is a professor will bring you from an A in Calc I to an F in Calc II real fast. If you take her, be prepared to learn by yourself but you have to do calculations in the way she teaches it. She expects you to devote all your time to the class, while she teaches averagely. Take her if you already have a strong understanding of the material.
She demands everything to be her way she has no leeway, her test are crazy hard to pass. she will try to teach a new chapter with 5 mins left of class. she also does not slow down she teaches nonstop and does not slow down to help. don't take her class
Prof Doty will go with the whole class using proper math language and terms but won't explain what those terms mean. Instead of ensuring everyone understands, she'll continue on assuming everyone understands the material. This is not good for those less proficient. How is she still teaching at this college after so many students say she's so bad??
Incredibly condescending and just overall a horrible professor. I would not recommend anyone take her unless you like to have an annoying professor who ridicules your class even though she does not teach.
Made a simple subject very difficult, very unclear in what she wanted from homework and online assignments. She is very sarcastic. She will help you if you are constantly at class. She is not understanding at all... I wouldn't take her again...
Horrible professor and she does not even care. Our final test was the class before our final exam and nearly everyone failed. The class average was a 24% with the highest grade being a 70%. I asked her if there would be a curve since everyone did so poorly and she refused to put a curve. Do not take any of her classes.
I wish someone told me 6 mothers ago not to take this class. the teacher does not care to any degree, relies entirely the the provided tutoring to teach her students rather than using the 4 hours a week the class provide, she ran out off time towards the end of the semester having 3 test due in 3 weeks when previously we had only had 2 in 3 months
She was unapproachable and rude. If you miss just one or two classes she won't care to answer your questions when you do come. Her test are so hard to pass because she's VERY specific in what she wants. Halfway thru the course she continues even tho no-one understands. She had some jokes but no-one laughed since we were all failing. She gotta go
Just took a summer course with her. The only reason I took her was because my other section got canceled and she was the only professor that was available in the morning. Her lectures are okay but her reviews and tests were bad. For the final, we didn't have a review so most of the class didn't know what to study.
DONT TAKE HER. You see her name and her class fits your schedule so good but PLEASE dont take her. And if your in her class get out sooner then later. I learned that the hard way. After failing her test from her LACK of teaching, I dropped her course. Because of this I RUINED my whole summer vacation taking summer sessions trying to catch up.
She isnt clear in what she is teaching and leaves her students confused. Grades homework harshly and gets upset when you ask why a specific question was marked wrong. I taught myself for most of the semester by reading the book and struggling to find good practice problems online. I think I couldve done better with a better professor.

She is literally the worst math professor I have ever had. She doesn't know how to teach and goes on ridiculous tangents about lights or things that bother her in the classroom. Her tests are incredibly difficult and nearly impossible to pass. The class average is below 50, she goes on teaching without asking if anyone even understands the concepts

I was heavily warned NOT to take her class by students and professors. Within two hours of sitting through her class I knew exactly what everyone was warning me about. She doesnt have the ability to connect with students nor the ability successfully teach.
She is old school but she is very nice. If you want to learn math, take her!
The professor Doty,C has had countless reviews to her discredit and now I can why. She doesnt teach. Professor Doty throws out information and expects her students to just figure it out. Everything is word problems, you cant see the board, she get detracted very quick. Some students are visual learners and need extra support which she does not.
I had her on online courses. Lectures were barely bearable, Her camera was always blurry so following the lecture was near impossible. You had to figure everything out practically on your own. All that being considered, homeworks are not hard. But the tests are very hard.
Math has never been my strongest suit. and this professor helped me lose that fear. I would take her again. she's amazing. she will make time after hours to work with you. YOU MUST DO YOUR HW AND PUT TIME TO THIS AND COME PREPARED TO CLASS WITH YOUR BOOKS AND TABLE. God helps those who help themselves. Do your work. you'll pass.
Professor Doty is a very nice woman who I feel does care about her students but is too disconnected to connect with their learning style. She explains concepts in a confusing way and often makes things more difficult than they need to be. My class started with around 30 people and dropped to maybe 10 after spring break, nice lady but bad professor.

Made calculus very difficult to understand. She sped through most of the lessons and barely payed any attention to the students. She really didn't care if students understood the lesson. Most of us stayed quiet because she had to finish the lesson within the span time. I had an awful experience with her and wouldn't recommend.
She is an awful professor, so get ready to basically teach yourself. I tried to take her summer math course and she is such a rude professor who doesn't cater to her students. Please even if she is a last option do yourself a favor and do not taker her class.
Definitely one of the hardest professors I've had so far, mainly because her teaching style was not a match for me. However she is a super sweet lady and was happy to help during her office hours. If you are good at adapting to different professors and their styles you should be fine. We had lots of homework, but that's good for studying.
She's a super sweet lady and is very understanding. Gives a little grace when it comes to some late assignments, but not always. Her teaching style didn't really work for me, but she does try to help. Doesn't grade attendance, but the lectures are very heavy and you need them to understand, otherwise you'll be completely lost.
Teaches based off the book, but the actual lectures are near useless. Her pace is way too quick and the board writing is barely readable. Examples used in class do not amount to much help needed a lot of tutoring to get pass the class.
Honesty, she's great. She's evidently very passionate and intelligent. She's a tough grader but says it's to encourage you to study the material more. If you are confused with something, just ask during her lecture and she'll explain it differently. People hate on her too much if you want to be taught calc well take her class.
Honestly, the other students are being melodramatic. Ms. Doty is a solid professor. You can tell she holds herself and her class to a high standard. Her tests are fair IMO and well rounded. She's very knowledgeable so take her to actually learn something. The only negative is I wish she was more organized on the black board in class.
She's very unfairly rated by prior students. Calc2 is just a difficult class, it doesn't matter who teaches it. I got a 38% on my 1st test but ended up doing fine. You need to prioritize her class, and be proactive as she is older. She is very nice, smart , funny, and wants you to pass,..nothing like prior reviews show. Would take her again.
She's a tough grader and her teaching style takes some getting used to, but she's super competent and very fair. More than happy to answer questions and help you if you're stuck. It's a hard class, and you'll be expected to solve tricky problems and think outside the box. Difficult class but glad I took it. I learned a lot from this professor.
Professor Doty's teaching style didn't work for me, but she's understanding and tries to help. Lectures are heavy, so attendance is a must. I found unstuck study and the textbook helpful for study prep.

This class is challenging and her teaching style isn't for a lot of people as evident by the amount of yappers on this profile. Test are pretty fair, although with some out of the box questions. Lectures and homework problems are good prep for tests. Enter this class with good algebra/trig and don't let yourself fall behind on course material.
She is a demon in the school. She doesn't hand out any other notes except for the one you take in class. Maybe since I took it in the summer, but make sure you practice other problems. She moves very quickly, and if you don't understand something, she won't answer you. Her grading criteria are very unclear. So protect your peace. I warned you!
Not a good teacher, i could barely hear her most of the time and when i could she explained things very confusingly. Trying to read what she wrote on the board was impossible for me because she wrote everything in cursive. Dropped it because i fell too behind If you do end up taking her, i would recommend sitting towards the front of the class.
