She is a very good teacher and teaches calculus very well. i would recommend her for sure!
she is very friendly, willing to help you out, but her tests are kinda tough.
She helps her students, but if your not one of those geniuses that grasps it right away, she easily gets frustrated with you. I really don't recommend her for this class because she's also pretty unclear and gives no partial credit on her tests/quizes.
Soo is very nice and I enjoy her class very much. Her tests can be tough at times but she gives extra credits in her tests and quizzes occasionally. I think her tests have too many questions and it is kinda impossible to complete all of them on time.
Shes the best teacher i have ever had, shes been my teacher for 081 and 082 as well. Shes clear and is willing to help you with everything. Shes awesome!
she really needs to understand we are not all geniuses, therefore she needs to shorten her test so that we can at least get to the last page before class is over. i have definitely had better math teachers (messersmith or conte highly recommended!)
As far as teaching goes she covered everything, but she realizes everyone is the class is starting do bad on the tests and doesnt do anything about it. she expects us to be on top of things at her pace. she teaches like shes in a hurry
Mrs. Soo is an excellent teacher and has an honest desire to have her students understand the material. Yes, her tests have many question, but if you understand the material and do all homework. The tests can be completed with time to spare.

She is fairly good at explaining things, but she is definitely not the best EVER. Her tests are hard and hard to finish, but this is coming from somebody who wasn't good at completing the homework in a timely manner. If she notices that the grades are behind the mark she will give extra easy tests.
She is probably one of the best math teachers i ever had. She is fair with her grades. Her tests are a lil tough, but if you pay attention you will do fine. I would recommend this teacher to anyone taking math if shes teaching it because you will understand it. Great teacher, i recommend her.
i dont know about anyone else but i think she is one of the best teachers ive had ever since junior high school! she explains everything like 100 times in a row and 10 more for those who still dont get it. she has an elementary teacher style, takes her time with teaching and sensitive for all needs!
She is the BEST math teacher i have ever had, she makes the material so simple, breaks down every point so you will understand, she wants to pass you
Soo is one of the nicest teachers i've ever had at COD... she is a great teacher...Tip of the day..."DO YOUR HW" and prepare good for her tests.. her tests are a medium difficulty level but long...
Mrs. Soo is the only teacher who ever taught math that made sense to me. She's great with extra help and really pleasant. All the stats helped so much after I transferred.
Great teacher who really cares about your learning of the material. Very clear.
I also think she teaches like she has somwhere to go after class. Ha. Shes pretty nice though.
I had a difficult time understanding Mrs. Soo's method of teaching. I'm usually good in math but I disliked this class a lot. I don't know if ti was the class or the professor.
I think she is an excellant math teacher! She takes her time explaining new material and teaches it in a way that is understandable. She gives worksheets for in class after each new section...i think this technique is very helpful! I definitly recommend her!
She is one of the best and nicest teachers at COD. She explains really well and wants to help you until you understand. It looks hard in the beginning of a class, but she makes it easy in the end. I would take her again. Highly recommended!
She is the best math teacher out there! She takes times to explain as much as students need. I really enjoyed her class. Highly recommended!!
test are medium hard but she is hard on grading and gives very little partial credit
a nice math teacher. has a good sense of humor and explains things thoroughly. also is lenient on test dates and partial credit.
Caroline is the best math teacher ever. I have taken her 0481 and 0470 classes. She explains things very well. I highly recommend her.
Soo is the best math teacher ever. The ways he explains things is very elementary so it is very easy or you to grasp the concept. I HIGH RECOMEND HER AS A MATH TEACHER! I plan to take her for the rest of my classes if she is teaching.
I took her class in summer and shes the worst math teacher that ive ever had... she doesnt teach, just worksheets that we have to fill out, graded, and usually she doesnt even answer our questions. dont even bother to ask her a question coz she'll make fun of u, the tests are completely diff from the study guides. overall, too much work for summer
what a great experience, very helpful, willing to explain and I thought the worksheets were an added bonus that allowed us additional practice on the work, I would definately recommend her!
If you HATE math this is the perfect teacher. She's slow and thorough. Uses worksheets on overhead proj. and everyone follows along w/her explanations. Shout out answers if you know it. Breaks are very short. Works 1 on 1 if you're confused. Sweet demeanor, knows her stuff. Can use calculators. Weird that we have to learn to draw geom figures on pc
Had her 4 calc 2 n 3 n got As in both. She is a great prof, but her tests are somewhat challenging the last Q is usu the bummer. U really have 2 study 2 get an A. She doesn't collect HW but if u want an A u betr do it. Gradin- 70% tests 10% quizzes, hw, n projects, n 20% final. She offers extr crdt rarely, if she sees that the class is working hard
Very helpful, thourough with explanations.
best math teacher i ever had!!
Great teacher. She knows what she is talking about, and is great at explaining it. Doesn't curve tests, but is a lenient grader. Highly recommend!
She was no help to me! When I asked her a question she just walked away...she has favorites. When class first started she had 30+ students when I dropped it half way through there were less then 15. And if you say she's a good teacher then you were one of her favorites!
Great geometry teacher uses the computer to teach and teaches the math portion very well!
She was wonderful, she not did she go over the homework in class but made sure you understood it. If there was no time in class you could make an appointment to meet her in her office to go over what you have problems with. The final is a commulative of all the test taken, study that and you'll do GREAT!
She is very sweet and takes time to explain problems. She understands from a students perspective as well as a teachers and will do what she can to make class interesting and fun. Her tests aren't easy but she allows use of a calculator and she allows a cheat sheet on the final. She's a fair grader and will help you to achieve the grade you need.
HARDEST teacher- things moved way too quickly for me in CALC II and I dropped it. Quizzes and Tests were nearly impossible and there wasn't a LOT of time spent on going over homework and questions. Seemed to be a good teacher but the class was impossible.
HARDEST teacher- things moved way too quickly for me in CALC II and I dropped it. Quizzes and Tests were nearly impossible and there wasn't a LOT of time spent on going over homework and questions. Seemed to be a good teacher but the class was impossible.
she was a very helpful teacher especially with extracredit and time on tests, She genuinly wants her class to understand her material.
she is tough and not helpful. Has favorites in her class and barely explains problems. If you haven't had math in 2 years DON'T BOTHER WITH HER!! VERY UNHELPFUL
i thought she was really nice and helpful. as long as you went to class, took notes, and did the homework (aka the things you need to do) it was easy. she took time out of her schedule to help me out if i did miss class though so i wouldn't fall behind. all in all i thought she was great!
Ms. Soo is extremely helpful to her students and takes all the time out of her schedule to help others.
WORST. MATH TEACHER. EVER! Ms. Soo is horrible at explaining things in class & preparing for final! She expects other students to answer questions for her!She allows students to sleep and disrupt class! She doesn't care if you know the material or not, will move on no matter what! Over half my class dropped be4 finals and over 80% failed the class!
She is a very hard teacher that moves very fast with the material. She uses easy problems in class and then quizes are nearly impossible. She is somewhat hard to understand at times. I would avoid her.
if u really have to take calc at cod, she's better than most. However, her grading system is hard and it lowers ur grade b/c she takes percentages and not points. she really does run fast and if u want to succeed in this class, i suggest doing ever homework at least 2x. she not too bad at explaining, but still does not break down the point likesheshud
She is a teacher that will cover the math material fast and will not stop to ask questions. If you don't understand it, she will keep moving on and skip your question. She tried helping me but I failed the class. She grades homework but does not correct it. She only answers a few questions from the homework assignments. tests are exremely diffcult.
i thought she was a good teacher. she goes over everything in good detail, but you do need to go to class everyday. you go over a lot in one day and it may be a little hard to catch up. all in all thought i would have to say she is a good teacher and i would recommend her to others.
this teacher is amazing! i don't know how you guys can say she is not! she helps and go over everything in detail! i've taken this class once before and dropped it right away because the professor was not able to explain to me what he was teaching, well professor soo does explain everything! i recommend this prof to anyone who has a hard time with
Very good teacher!! loved her would take her again if i could.
Mrs. Soo is a great teacher. I had her for 1431 in the summer and she was very helpful. However, Calculus is not an easy course so you have to do most of the work. Mrs. Soo makes it a lot easier if u pay attention. If u have to take math 2231, I definately recommend Mrs. Soo!
Mrs. Soo is a wonderful teacher, I can't believe how some of the students wrote negative comment about her because she is very helpful inside and out of class, she really want to help the students get good grad. I loved her class, she gives homework but won't check it but basically her worsheets are what you need to practice.
Not a math person AT ALL but Mrs. S got me through this class. Attend class, pay attention to her lectures and ask questions. She is available for a lot of outside help as well. She wants you to pass so stay on her good side and you will!
Ms. Soo is the Best calc teacher at COD, very helpful she is very willing to help students outside of class, and care that students do good and get the material. hmwrk is a must, b/c calc 2 is difficult. If you work hard you'll easily get an A or B. Best teacher i ever had.
Ms. Soo was a great professor! I'm pre-med so I didn't care about math much, but she made me realize how cool it is. She's really understanding and moves exams back if students have other exams that day. Calc 2 is not an easy class, but if you do your homework, even though it's not checked, you can do well!
Good teacher. I was under- taught in 1432 but she helped me understand the concepts, it just that I wished I wouldve taken her for 1432. I definitely recommend her to anyone who is looking for a good calc teacher
If you are reading this take her she actually made Calc 2 passable after having another teacher, having her was a breath of fresh air.
She is a very good teacher. Willing to help you out but you need to seek help, she wont just come to you. Test are kind of hard. If you dont study you wont pass. Do homework. Dont miss class.
Best teacher i have ever had. She always will explain something to you step by step if you really dont get it. Speak up in class and let her know so she can help. Also, a phenomenal teacher, always keeps it simple then takes it to the next level and really eases you into the material. Her teaching style definitely help leave the material in my head
online class. found it difficult, but I am horrible with math. not good teacher not bad teacher, nothing stood out. one thing i didn't like is everything was due by 3am, so it would say this is due TUESDAY but really its due at 3am tues, so for most of us it should be done on monday, kindof confusing/annoying. idk if id retake her or not
She really knows what shes teaching, but if your having a hard time and ask her for help she is very condescending and makes you feel very stupid if you didnt get it the first time. She gave me no reason to feel comfortable asking for questions, not the best quality for a math teacher. She made me want to switch majors.
Nice teacher. Does what she can to help student. Make sure you get A's on quizzes which can be hard and test are ok, not too difficult. Should get a B or higher no problem!
very helpful and nice professor. tests are not that much bad. attend class and go over assignment sheet. take her if u can.. best math teacher I have ever had.
I took an online class with Prof Soo and would highly recommend. She is very understanding and truly wants you to succeed. Also gives a lot of partial credit on exams which is nice if you struggle with math like me.
Mrs. Soo is a good teacher. Her quizzes are not hard, if you do the homework and her tests are a step higher than her quizzes but not hard. A is easy if you do the world and spend time outside of the classroom. I highly recommend her.
I took Ms. Soo's class for MATH 2231 & 2232. She's everything a COD student would want in a teacher: makes lectures easy, allows you to practice problems in class, always crack up jokes in class, always making you come to class and does everything she can to help you! There moments when I wanted to quit but finished strong because of her. TAKE HER!
One of my favorite teachers at COD!! I took her 0481 in the new computer/classroom setting, which allowed me to work at my own pace & really grasp the material. My first A in math EVER. You will have to put the work in in this format, so be prepared to be self-guided. If you need help she is truly personable, sweet, and cares about her students!
best math teacher ever.
Great Math teacher. Explains everything well and has the best sense of humor!
The person below probably failed and is giving this teacher a bad review for their own faults. Ms. Soo was a very good teacher. If you take notes, and do homework, you will be guaranteed an A.
Mrs Soo is awesome!! she is very helpful and just an amazing teacher. her tests are well rounded and she gets the material through to everyone. make sure you complete some homework just for the extra practice though. i highly recommend her
She never got mad when you asked her for help. It really felt like she cared that it got through to you and she was so enthusiastic. I will miss her
Explains things well, easy to understand. If you don't want to do any work in the class, you don't have to. The tests/quizzes aren't that bad if you understand the material. She's really cool and laughs alot. The textbook is only for practice so if you don't do alot of homework, don't get the textbook.
This class was awesome. I've been out of school for about 7 years, so it was scary. She is an amazing teacher. She's extremely nice and helpful, and doesn't make you feel dumb if you need help. She explains things better than the book and helped me fly through the course.
Mrs. Soo is great, very approachable, well liked, very easy going, polite, nicest professor ever!! Take this course, and you won't be disappointed!
Mrs. Soo is a great teacher! I would love to have her again for my math class. She explains materials well and she's always there to help.
I took the online version of 0481 in the classroom setting with an instructor. Ms. Soo was extremely nice and helpful and explained the material thoroughly. The online format requires a lot of work and attendance is key.
Wonderful teacher. All homework is online and you get 9 tries to get correct. She is very helpful and informative. Gives out worksheets in class that are helpful and she goes over them so it is great practice. Tests arent too terribly difficult but make sure you study and do practice problems! She is super nice and is always willing to help you.
Mrs. Soo is one of the best math professors at COD. She is funny, nice, and is always willing to help. Her tests are not too hard if you study and do the online homework. The online homework counts as 10% of your grade. She is awesome and I will miss her.
I took her online course and let me just say that the homework and quizzes online are 10 times easier than the test that is given. She is also a hard grader and I don't think she gives out partial credit. Her study guides don't help at all to study for the test. For a person that loves math, I wasn't too happy with the grade I got in the end.
I really liked professor Soo. Her grading standard is 4 tests (70% of grade) and a final (20%). Online homework is another 10% of your grade and is very helpful in doing as many of her problems are variations of the ones worked through on Webassign. I thought her tests were fair and she grants partial credit.
If you have a placement score in Algebra like 60 and above, you'll pass it very easily. All the quizzes and exams were all taught in class. She also gave us some hand-outs that was really helpful. Unfortunately, I borrowed a book, but never used it for everything was in the hand-out. Never miss a lecture! Everything you need to know is in it!
All are in the lectures and hand-outs, never miss a class.
Homework and quizzes are MUCH easier than actual test, which need to be taken on campus at a testing center. I am not super great at math but her tests sometimes have stuff I don't even remember doing. I hate math ):
She's a really tough grader. Quizzes are easy but tests are hard. One tiny mistake and she takes off half points, if not all, on questions. lectures seem straightforward. I studied for days before exams and ended up with a C in the class. Bottom line: find yourself an easier teacher.
Soo is very easy going and is a generous grader. She keeps her lectures as interesting as she can and doesn't stress proofs, but just wants you to replicate a process. Her tests don't have surprises, and showing up is important since she'll occasionally give a worksheet worth points due that day. Her personality shines when joking with students.
Really good teacher. You will learn a lot of things. Her tests are very very hard. Be aware. The majority of the people that passed the class already had experience with calculus. Just be aware, if you are not a good test taker. On the bright side, you will learn better than other teachers. Prof. Soo is so nice too! I liked her teaching style.
great teacher! test are really hard
I suck at math and that reflects in my grade. Overall not the hardest class if you have taken math recentlyhave taken algebra 2trig in high school. Some of it was totally new for me though. Tests are at testing center, everything is online. Tests are a lot harder than quizzes. You can take quizzes twice, she'll take the better score. Overall ok
She is an amazing professor! I took her for multiple classes at COD and I wouldn't take another professor instead of her. She is extremely knowledge and is always willing to help her students. She really cares about her students and wants to see them succeed.
Dr. Soo is an good online teacher. She has lots of homework to do but all tests are within homework boarders. Nothing spontaneous. Fair grader. Replies emails immediately.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!! YOU WILL REGRET IT!! I had already taken this class in highschool AP Calc BC... and was getting an 86% I love math and plan to major in it, however, Ms. Soo, is by far the worst professor I have ever had. She does little to no explaining of the material, and claims to give partial credit on tests but she does not.
Her test are nothing like the things she teaches. Be aware.... A lot of people dropped the class this semester and a lot got F-D. The only way you'll pass her class is if you have taken 2231 before. Nice teacher but very hard. The material is easy, but the testhwquiz is not...
Never taking her again. She had a homework assignment EVERY night. It was so hard to get them done in between work and other classes. Had to drop her class because it became just too much.
Ms. Soo has an accent that sometimes makes it hard to understand what she is saying. Then, she really does not teach the class too well. After taking her class, I had to switch my major because I hated it so much. In high school, the lowest math score I ever had was a low A, but with Soo, I barely got a C. I would not recommend her.
Professor Soo is one of the best math teacher in CoD I think. She's teaching style is awesome, you will learn a lot more than you could from other teachers. Her tests is hard, I have to agree, but she gives lots partial credits.
For calculus class she is an expert in the subject and she knows what she is teaching. If you are intimidated by her grading you wont do well in any class because she is the nicest grader. If i had any other professor i may have failed because she gives a lot of partial credit for knowing the CONCEPTS. Shes one of the top math teachers to take.
Wonderful teacher, always willing to help, and very clear and easy to understand. Tests are difficult and require you understand calc/pre-calc concepts very well. It's easy to get a question wrong if you're nervous and not confident in your skills. Easy grader if she sees you put in effort. Online homework w/ limited attempts. Grades are weighted.
Professor Soo is the best math professor at COD! I love her and she is an amazing teacher! Her tests are more than fair. I can't wait to take her again for Differential Equations :)
She's an ok teacher. What I didn't like was that she played favorites. Sometimes when we took tests, some students would finish and hand in their tests early. She'd brief through their work and and hand them back their paper, telling them to review certain problems. She only did this for certain students, not everyone.
I loved Ms. Soo! she is so kind and a lot of people say her tests are hard but DO your homework and study guides and if you re ever needing help ask to meet her up in her office because she does help a lot! I got A's on all my tests and ended the class with an A when in high school my highest grades would be C's or low B's
She's a great teacher, shes such a sweet teacher and really wants to see all of her HARDWORKING student succeed. Most people on here complaining about her probably failed her class. She grades the nicest out of all the math professors I have had.
Calculus and analytic Geometry I, Fantastic calculus teacher. Amazingly appreciative and considerate to her students. If you can complete the web assign and occasional take home assignment you will do well in the class no matter what kind of test taker you are. My test average is within 2% of my homework average.
Terrible teacher, she just assumes things about students and teaches based off of that. Would not recommend her at all
This was an online class, so no matter what teacher, all 0482 students had the same assignments and tests. Professor Soo, however, is very responsiveness to emails and is there to help. 0481 and 0482 are non-credit courses to prepare for you for college level math. Thankfully I'm back on track and will take Pre-Calc and Business Calc next year.
Caroline Soo is a phenomenal math professor and an extremely nice person. She loves math, especially Calc 3 and Vector Calc which are her favorite classes, and knows how to make it easy to understand. Extremely helpful during office hours and maintains a friendly relationship with her students. Its a high level class so you need to work hard.
Soo is one of the best math teachers in had at COD. Calc 2 is tough class and requires lots of outside work to succeed. Her test are very similar to lecture problems. Gives lots of homework questions. Taking her Calc 3 in the spring I enjoyed her class so much. Recommend her to everyone.
Her lectures are so boring. Her voice is hard to understand. And our entire grade us based on TWO tests. That is ridiculous. Attendance is required too. She gives lots of worksheets.
She's unclear and never post announcement on blackboard. I would never take her class again, her accents are literally hard to understand. Test and quizzes are so different then stuff she teaches in class.
Professor requires a lot out of the students for no reward. Students are required to do their homework but aren't given any credit for doing the homework. Only graded on the quizzes and the tests, so if you don't do well on the quizzes you won't do well on the tests and in the class overall.
If you want to learn trigonometry take someone else
Would not recomend
I do not recommend her she gives a lot of homework and gives you no time to study.
Loved her calc 3 and additional topics in vector calc class. You MUST come to class and do the homework in order to do well. Soo is very helpful in office hours and made each class period genuinely fun even if the material was challenging. Calc 3 isn't meant to be easy, but if you can be sure to take her!!
She didn't give me half credit for problmes I messed up on. She goes pretty fast for a calc 1 class and she told us we can go over the test with her but when I did she said she wasn't going over mine. Good luck taking her class unless you already took calc before, then she will be a great teacher for you.
She teaches fine, but a little fast. Her test and quizzes are very diffcult and she didn't give be half credit at all. The only people that did good in her class are the people who have taken calc in the past. If you have taken calc before she a great professor for you but if you haven't good luck.
I do not recommend her. Her tests are very difficult and she didn't give half credit at all. She does not really care if her students do well. She's very hard to communicate. No any extra credits and even you're very close to the grade you want, she won't curve. She doesn't care if you failed in the class.
0482 all have the same material that must be covered. I took this class online, we did not hear from Prof. Soo much at all. She sent out emails to remind you of test due dates and that was it. Homework and quizzes are taken online, but exams and the final must be taken at a testing center. I have no personal complaints except slow and tough grader.
Teachers very fast and is hard to understand, does not care about her students
Wonderful Professor and has a great sense of humor.
Professor Soo was clear on the areas that needed to be worked on as well as providing outlines as prepare the students for tests. Very understanding professor as long as you communicate with her and responds quickly to emails.
If math doesn't come easy to you, I wouldn't recommend taking her class. Tests are a big portion of the grade, and if you do bad on one test your whole grade will be effected. You pretty much have to teach yourself the math.
Super super fair teacher. Not too nice. Not too mean. Just about the best calc 3 teacher I could have asked for. VERY FUNNY
She has her own textbook so none of the tutors in the math help department have a clue of what were doing. Professor does not care if you pass or fail. She is very difficult to learn from. Good luck if you take this class
I took Caroline Soo's online MATH1428 class. It was as expected for an online math class, reading the materials and doing the homework on my own time. Don't take this class, or any online math class, if you aren't self-motivated to do the work on your own time.
terrible, hard grader and too much homework. had her a while back. DONT TAKE HER
DONT TAKE HER CLASS. Im good @ math so when I saw the reviews I thought ppl were being dramatic but no... she asked my class for feedback bc everyone was doing horribly then she argued with us & told us were supposed to be teaching ourselves. The only good thing she did was in class open quizzes at the end of the semester to slightly help our F's.
She's a nice person. But a terrible teacher. Way to much homework and online stuff when the tests are worth the majority of the grade and aren't like the homework. You basically teach yourself everything
Unrealistic expectations of the professor. You are set up to fail from the very beginning- syllabus indicating quizzes and homework (which are ridiculously time consuming) are only worth 10% each toward your grade, the rest being the unit tests, which are BEYOND DIFFICULT despite review and study guides. Horrible and disappointing. Shame on COD.
Mrs. Soo is the best math professor I've ever seen, she knows her job more than anyone else. Easy grader. If you practice from the textbook at home you should be in a good shape. Her exams and quizzes are neither hard nor easy, you get as much as you study.
interferes way too much while working
don't take her. the most horrible professor i have ever seen
she is rude and she also doesnt answer her emails. bad communication. hard to understand her lectures.
If you haven't taken Calculus before, preferably 2 years in high school, DO NOT TAKE SOO! She is unhelpful and basically reads from the textbook. Instead of supporting a struggling student, she encouraged him to drop. New learners have zero chance of passing this class. If you get stuck with this class, drop before you waste hundreds of dollars.
Her class is NOT an easy A. It was a tough class and it required a TON of work. Professor Soo will make you work very hard for your grade. Her tests are also pretty long and difficult but she gives extra time if needed. She'll welcome you any time during her office hours so if you need help don't hesitate to stop by. Homework is VERY important!!!
Absolutely loved her class. Other teachers skip reviewing things they think you should already know, but she always took time to review concepts we needed to tackle new material. Super patient with all questions. Explains so well that I didn't need to read that horrendous textbook (but do the problems!). Always upbeat and good sense of humor, too.
Do not take this professor if youre expecting to pass this class. On the first day, she gave a quiz without even mentioning it was for points. Then, when I came up to her and asked her why she graded it as a quiz she proceeded to tell me it was. My fault for not paying attention. However, the entire class wasnt aware either. I dropped her.
Soo isnt a bad teacher, but she can breeze through subjects that are a little bit harder to understand. When asked, she does break down solutions, but she also kinda makes you feel dumb for asking. Be prepared for A LOT of homework. Hw isnt mandatory, but its very important for the test, because a lot of test questions r based off of hw.
Prof. Soo is one of the best Math professors at COD. She is always ready to answer your questions outside of the class during her office hours. If you get a chance to take her, then definitely do. Her class was pretty easy. There were 3 tests, 5 quizzes (can drop 1), and 4 problem sets. If you do her homework, then this class will be a breeze.
With Calc 2 being such a difficult course, Prof. Soo makes it easy to understand. She breaks down the topics so that you know how to do everything. You do have to do the homework to understand the material, though it is optional. The grades are determine by 4 tests( including finals) and 5 quizzes. You need to put in the work to get a good grade.
Text-book questions and very fast lectures sum up this class. Have to teach yourself everything by the book if you lose focus for a second in class. Time too short for quizzes, students don't have time to finish. Exams have conceptual questions, so u need to understand as well as memorize. Does not document quiz dates nor give any reminders.
I understand that Calculus is a difficult class but she's not even trying to make it any easier. Homework is not graded, there's A LOT of it, and if you don't do it, you're screwed. Your entire grade is tests/quizzes and they're graded HARSHLY. She reads directly from the book and doesn't stop for questions during lectures.
This teacher is a straight dingle and the fact that there were 35 people in this class and now only 10 shows you something. This teacher was the toughest grader I've ever seen and demotivated me to do the work and think I was able to pass the class.
Professor is a great professor , she knows how to explain problems to her students and make the problem easy for them . She makes you practice by yourself during the class which makes you better day by day , even though her homeworks are tedious but they are always trying to keep you on the right path . Awesome professor and a Nice person
makes you rethink your career choice. lazy personality is clearly shown in how she grades. terrible
do not take, waste of time and money
absolutely no help in calc
quizzes and tests are pretty much impossible to ace. majority of the class is failing as well. no surprise
She made me feel very stupid and always made fun of my questions in class. Got to a point where I stopped asking questions and felt demotivated to attend class. In my other classes, I had all A's and B's which were attainable with effort but in this class, no effort could achieve you a PASSING GRADE. Her grading system horrible
I have always been a straight A student but prof Soo was the first class I have ever failed and had to drop. She is extremely unhelpful and does not give your question validity if you don't do all 2-3 hours of homework after each class. In her defense, we started out online for two weeks but I still wouldn't take her...
good teacher
She grades extremely harshly and can be overall condescending to students in lectures. Her office hours may be useful, but tests and quizzes are worth 100% of your grade. Taking this class is extremely discouraging even if you are a great student, take ANYONE else. I genuinely regret taking her.
do not get me wrong, she is good at teaching the material but horrible at everything else. The tests and quizess are super hard and she barely gives partial credit. You spend hours on end doing homework and that is not a grade and she is very mean to students when you ask for assistance. never failed a class before until this.
I don't take saying this lightly: she is mean spirited. Took calc I and got a B but was not able to get by in calc II. Tough grader and passively discourages students
To be honest, her tests and quiz are not easy at all. But man, this is college calculus, not primary school (2+3=5) math! I did learn a lot in her classes, and she really cares about her students. If you just want to get an easy A, don't take her classes(by the way, don't take calculus:) If you want to learn something, please choose her.
Overall, Professor Soo does an exceptional job of ensuring her students understand the content. If you have not taken any calc before, you will be fine (I was). You should be aware that your entire grade is made up of exams and quizzes. This class will by no means be an "easy A." It requires lots of hard work, but you will develop understanding.
5 on AP CALC BC Exam student here. You MUST work hard and do all HW from day 1 otherwise you WILL FAIL the first exam and drop the class because it covers the hardest units in Calc II. Everything after that is easier. Our class started w/35 and ended w/11 ppl, but I think her class is easier than other calc II profs. Pass exam 1, u pass the class
Withdrew cause calc 2 is such a heavy subject, especially with a full schedule. But I seriously just signed up on here to praise Soo. She actively engages with the class. I've NEVER asked questions in classes even if I had them, but Soo kept me so focused that I did. You need discipline for calc and Soo gave me the push that I needed. Just take her
She likes to do easy examples in class and then 3 times harder on the exams and quizzes are only 25 mins for 4 problems with multiple sub problems so not enough time and you have to rush. She kinda discourages you by testing students the way she does so just mentally prepare for a hard time. For the first time I feel defeated so that's that...
Fantastic professor, I love the way she conducts the class. Overall, the course is challenging. But she excels at deconstructing complex ideas and articulating them. Do whatever homework she assigns; it will be helpful for practice and tests. Throughout office hours, she is always willing to assist.
Great Professor. Uses textbook for Homework but not necessarily for the lecture. Very few items are for grades, No Homework Points. Very Clear she wants to help, offers up her time for students and will go over anything that is asked in class. Allows time for material to be learned.
Prof. Soo is an extremely tough grader. Your only graded on 2 exams and a final along with a few quizzes. There's a lot of homework but its not graded. No partial credit given. No curve or exam dropped. Put in the work for the class and DO the homework, quizzes are based off it. She is very accessible outside of class to help during office hours.
Her lectures are two and half hours long two times a week! She doesn't go slow either, you zone out for a minute and you will fall behind quickly. Homework is just doing Pearson textbook problems that isn't graded.. all you are graded on is quizzes and 3 exams! You are better off taking higher level math at university where they curve generously..
Quizzes/exams make up your entire grade, no homework points. Had a VERY valid reason for missing a test and I asked her if I can make it up as soon as possible but she didn't give me the option to. Test was worth 100 points and tanked my grade. I felt very defeated in this class and used to be a really good student until I took her as a professor.
Soo is an awesome professor. I knew some students who don't do their work but only complain. Sometimes, we just forget this is a college-level calculus class, we're supposed to dedicate a decent amount of time to it. Soo gives great lectures and really cares about her students. So, please stop complaining here and misleading new students.
I think she teaches the content very well. She is clear and concise, and does not surprise us in tests with things we never learned. Homework is like "do it for your own good" - though it wasn't graded, it was like revision/practice to ensure I'm prepared for the tests. There is no room to slack off in her class; it's difficult. And don't be late!
Professor Soo is the only math professor I will ever take for calc. She is engaging in lectures, helpful during office hours, and understanding. She was the first professor who put easier questions on the test than the homework. She was the first math professor I had that actually taught the material well and wanted students to get good grades.
THE BEST PROF I HAVE EVER HAD. I loved calc 3 because of her. Her lectures are not boring, she actually teaches and makes her own note sheets for us. She is available to answer questions. 2 tests are 80% of your grade, 5 quizzes are the other 20% (lowest 1 dropped). The tests are long but not super difficult, similar to homework. Highly recommend!!
She is a great proffesor, I took her for Calc-2 and am currently in her Calc-3 class. Calc is very difficult, but shes about the best teacher you can take. Test and quiz questions are like the questions you do in class. She goes through things quickly, so make sure to keep up on the hw and you will be ok.
someone please end my suffering
she teaches way to fast, and skips a lot of things. practice homework is useless if you're stuck, and the tests are 100x harder than the quiz and homework.
our class were a bunch of straight A engineers, and the professor decided to favor them instead of teaching the class normally. she told the class "figure it out" and would skip steps and go extremely quick because she knew that the majority of the already knew the material, while the regular students struggle to even follow her steps.
As in terms of math professors, Soo is one of the best at COD right now! She was very accessible when you needed help in her office hours and tried to help students if they needed it. The homework is not graded and there are approximately 3 exams, a final, and 6 quizzes. Be wary though, her exams are not easy and you need to practice a lot.
There's easier options for Calc II out there. Her lectures are very dense, long, and exhausting to sit through. There is no mymath lab, rather doing problems on a textbook that don't give detailed solutions. Strict attendance and strict grading too. If you want to learn, she's good but if you want to pass, bad idea. No grading scale adjustments.
The class itself it very difficult. There is a lot of homework from the textbook but no available point for it. The test particularly are very long and harsh. Notes are posted online but you must attend to understand what's going on. Alot of work is needed to get a good understanding. She is very nice and will help you in and outside of class.
Clear lectures and decent person. The downside? Her exams aren't closely related to homework and review. There's so many different curveballs that aren't covered in lecture or from the homework. She's actively avoided assigning topics and homework questions that ARE similar to questions on the exam. I've never been so improperly prepared.
Professor Soo is a very good professor. Her exams are tough, but Calc 2 is a hard class, so its just part of the curriculum. I had to work hard to pass, but I wouldn't have done it without her help. She sometimes grades harshly, but if you go to her office hours and explain a simple mistake, she will give toy points back. I highly recommend her.
Soo is good, her lectures are clear, she goes fast tho. Overall she is really good, clear, and grades really fast. DO LECTURE NOTES PROBLEMS, do all the HW, dont skip problems, make sure you understand, not only be able to solve the problem, understand the rectangles. Her exams are pretty average, one question be worth 20 points tho
Soo is a great professor for Calc 2. Clear lectures, accessible through office hours, gives clear feedback if you make a mistake on a test/quiz, etc. She assigns a lot of homework problems, but if you do all of them and fully understand the concepts, you should do well in her class.
Her lectures are super clear, and she always provides handouts for us to work in class. She is very supportive and wants you to do well in her class. The homework is meant for practicing to excel, and though it may seem like a lot, math is a course that requires lots of practice. The exams are very similar to homework/classwork. Totally recommend!
Professor Soo is known for her fast-paced lectures, but if you stay engaged and use tools like unstuckstudy for study prep, you can succeed in this challenging yet rewarding class. The grading is tough, but she's helpful during office hours.
Soo is a nice lady, but her grading criteria is poor. You're only graded on tests and quizzes. She expects you to completely master a section just to get a grade C or B.
Absolutely terrible. Her expectations are way too much. She makes the course way more difficult than it needs to be. You could put less than half the effort for her class if you took the same class at University and pass with at least a B. No cushion grade at all only quizzes and exams so if you aren't a good test taker don't take it with her..
She seemed like a nice person in the beginning but she became really fast paced and arrogant later on. If you don't understand something in class, she won't be able to help you clear your concepts and still carry on. I went up to her for help many times but she was not helpful at all and avoided it. Tests and quizzes are too lengthy and tough.
Expects you to remember everything 0481/82/high school and calls on ppl who clearly have no clue what they're doing. Announces to everyone when someone doesn't know what they're doing, yet will not explain different and sticks to “how she teaches”. Only graded off of quizzes and tests. Waste of Money and time taking soo.
Really horrible teacher who doesn't plan for tests and quizzes, I was sick for a couple of days and got a zero.
she's always there to help in office hours and is a nice teacher.
do not take
Her lectures were okay, not my favorite. Tests were very difficult. Quizzes were really easy. She was very very generous with partial credit. Very nice and pleasant to be around.
She's a very good teacher. Her smile makes everyone smile. She's funny and keeps everyone engaged in the lecture. But… she gives very tough exams. Not gonna lie, she's a real Asian-style teacher, uk what I mean? If you listen carefully, take notes, and do your homework, you can get an A. but it's almost impossible. but worth to take her classes.
