Lots of notes, but she is really interesting and helpful.
I liked this teacher so much that I based my schedule on classes she would be teaching in the future
Good teacher, actually interested in her subject prepare yourself for the essay to succeed.
she is a really good teacher and actually makes learning history easy.all the exams are essays she gives you a list of the possible essay questions and you can then pick from two.be sure to prepare yourself. there is a journal that helps your grade as wel
Excellent teacher - one of the few gems to be found at a community college. She is very well-spoken, intellectual, and cares about her subject. I'd recommend taking her if you want a decent education. She's truly great!
She is a wonderful and dedicated professor. Her tests are pretty hard and you must go to class every day. You miss, you lose. She makes history seem like a drama and you want to go to class just to find out what happenned next. I would definitely take her again.
Horrible!! her tests are so hard. I wouldn't take her again if I got paid.
She makes history a drama! I changed my major because of her.. she opened my eyes to so many things in the past and now!! Her tests are hard but she gives a study guide with all possible essays. Keep up with your journal because it counts. If you dont want to write or study, you wont pass.
HORRIBLE

Be prepared to do a lot of writing for this class. She is a great instructor, but tests have a major essay that is 50 points of the grade. She only tests on stuff talked about in lecture, so that is good. Another hist instructor tests on book knowledge mostly. I would have taken her again for Hist 1302 if not for the essay tests.
doesnt realize people have lives outside of history class..she expects you to write EVERY single detail about topic on her ESSAY tests, wich have a few multiple choice tossed in...she grades like its an honors history class..DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER IF YOUR CONCERNED ABOUT YOUR GPA!!!!!
If you take the time to prewrite your essay out of notes taken in class you will do fine. If you want to sleep through a class and pass pick another. She will make you pay attention and understand the material. Get used to essays they'll be all you will have in the very near future.
My comments were never good enough. And I hate those stupid summation assisgnments. I wasn't interested in this class to start and I am still not.
Online class is a ton of reading but the textbook is a pretty good one for the course. 2 essays required. Test #2 is a killer, make sure you review all of the additional material for that one. All multiple choice tests. 10 Required discussion board entries. Very willing to help if you need her.
You have to take excellent notes to do well in her class. Her approach to history is biased on her liberal beliefs, and she doesn't know as much about history as she lets on. If I asked her questions outside her lecture notes she didn't know the answer. If you believe US History has unfolded in the hands of evil white men, you'll get along fine.
I have taken both history 1301 & 1302 with her. She is clear but expects a good amount from you. There's only note taking, journal assignments, and exams. Only 3 exams though, but they're mostly writing. You can see her interest in the topics she covers. I would recommend her class to people who are willing to committ to the work.
She is a good teacher, very passionate about what she is teaching, but it's just the lectures and nothing else, I found my mind wandering a couple of times. Take alot of notes, (3-5 pages per class) and don't let her liberal views, cracks about George W. Bush, and hatred of God throw you and you'll do fine.
She tells the stories like soap operas so it is easy to remember. She pretty much tells you everything that is going to be a the test (from her lect) however she EXPECTS very detailed information and I know she does not give full credit for ANYTHING!!! Does not believe in extra credit. may offer 10 pts 4 something you spend 4 hrs on?!!
Great lectures, HARD test even though she tells you what is going to be on the test. She grades harshly. Write your essays before and you should do well. No book needed :)
I didnt like history before her class and I dont like it now. She says there are no right/ wrong answers but if you dont share her opinion shes not afraid to give an F. My first summation she accused me of copying. Well maybe thats because we all use the same book????? I will not be taking again from her. Nor do I recommend her.
Ridiculously harsh on the grading. I am a straight A student and she is the only professor I have had who would give me C's and D's on essays particularly if you dont agree with her anti-God stance. If you dont share her cynical interpretation of history, you fail. I wish I had looked here BEFORE taking her class. It's AWFUL. Nightmare from hell.
complicated, demanding, boring.
Took Online. Not bad at all
I took her online course, which proved to be a big mistake. She tests over massive sections and does not give ANY kind of study guide. Worst instructor I have had in the past two years.
I wish I had known about this site before taking her online class, it dropped my gpa and knocked me out of my scholarship to a 4-year. I was a few points short of an A in the end (only b/c I worked SUPER hard) and she would not bump me or answer my emails or phone calls. Test questions were out of the blue. No guidance. F =/ Take Nichols instead.
She does not care at all about her students. I think she actually semi-secretly hates them. I am going to drop this class, after wasting half a semester trying to please her. She is extremely picky on "summarries" wants a complete novel. I am convinced it is impossible to get an A on a written assignment. What a waste of my life!
She is rude and I could not stand her. I showed up every day in class. I also set at the front of the class and did all of my homework and still made a C.
First off, be prepared to write notes 'til your hand falls off. I didn't see the anti-God, liberal stance other commenters mentioned, but I agree that she's a hard teacher. Seems uncomfortable engaging, nervous in front of the group. Extremely rigid and dependent on note-taking - that is literally all we did in every class day. (Except test days!)
i took her 1301 on accident twice. Yea my dumb fault & counseling I failed the 1st time with a D by the time I realized it was her,I was writing the same notes listng to the SAME borin lec..lots of notes If u add anything to her notes & dont totally regurge them u fail she said yea it's rt but what did I cite. I took the video course A+
She is extremely opinionated, and if you don't agree with her, it will effect your all essay test grade. She wants you to go to class, but her lectures are painfully boring. She seems like a sweet lady, but doesn't care about her students. Be prepared to take notes!
Her lectures are really interesting, and you can get a lot out of them if you pay attention. Her tests though are hard, and you have to write long and complete essays to get a good grade. In any case, she is a good teacher who doesn't let her views get too much in the way, but be prepared to learn.
She is a great teacher. Her tests force you to be prepared, but more then that she actualy teaches you history insted of droning on about the past. I did not take her U.S. history 2 and still regret it, so now I am Taking World Civ 1 from her and am looking forward to the up cominig semester and World Civ 2.
I enojy history, so i was excied about the class. She made everything better! wonderful helpful tacher.
She's good at giving lectures and makes history interesting, like a movie. Her door is always open if you have questions or need help.
This professor is down right terrible. I've NEVER had trouble in a History class until now. Thanks to her, I'm sure I'm out of my 4 Year TCU Corner Stone Scholarship... Her grading is way too harsh. You better be able recite an encyclopedia of events in your essays.
Makes class interesting, although book purchase is definitely not needed - tests are over lecture material. Study lecture material and you'll pass. Exams = about 20 multiple choice, 4 identification definitions and essay (one of three questions) also req'd is reading journal. Would definitely take as professor again.
I enjoyed her class (keep in mind that I am a die hard oil family repulican). She is very liberal and if you stand up to her once like I did you may get a semi-appology at the end. I went to her class every day and wrote until my hand hurt and made a very good grade. She is not that hard.
I took her online class and really enjoyed it. There was a lot of reading but tons of useful information! Her assignments were all in order and you always know what was due and when. The few times I e-mailed her, I received a fast response that cleared up my questions. As long as you do your work you will make an A.
I've always loved history, but Ms Carney makes it interesting. She explains everything in her own words, making it easy to understand. Her exams are directly from her lectures, so take good notes! Detailed notes are best :-)
History hasn't been my fav subject but Ms Carney changed that for me. I wasn't getting the hang of it at first. If you meet with her & show her your outlines for essays she will tell you what you need & don't need. You will be glad you did test day! She doesn't believe in scantrons but you LEARN! I shocked her & myself when I got 102 on 1st exam. :)
I took this class online and I didn't like how many assignment there were and I felt like she was a tough grader. She was nice enough, but I don't love History and I had to work for my A.
I barely made an A. Study and take notes U can make an A. Very good professor.
She is a very entertaining and a funny professor. Usually the only homework you will have is writing in a journal and a few assignments here and there. She likes to talk to her students one on one on what they want to do with their life/goals. So far the best professor I have ever had.
She seems more concerned with the philosophy and morality of historical events and people rather than the simple facts.
Tests are mostly essay, but as long as you attend class they are not hard. You learn the reasons why things happened, not just the facts. She explains the big picture and the feelings of the people at the time. Best professor I have had. Attendance isn't mandatory but once I started attending daily my grade went up tremendously. A+++ professor.
Carney is a wonderful professor and she is very passionate about teaching history and will keep you entertained throughout lectures. Definately NOT boring. You have no excuse for not making an A because she gives you study guide and as long as you write a practice essay and take to her she will tell you what your need or don't need.
She is a wonderful teacher who really cares about her students passing. She uses a power point and lecture to teach you. There is never any homework besides writing in your journal and you will never use your textbook so don't bother buying one. I didn't make the best grade due to my lack of studying outside of the class. Learned my lesson. :/
This is your typical "get out what you put in" teacher. The homework is a journal due 4 times. Exams are mostly essays with some mulit. choice. Research which topics she will ask for during each exam and makes sure you listen to that lecture good. Slightly concerned a bit too much of her own "interpretation". Moderate recommendation
at first i was really mad i was in her class, but then i realized how easy it was! all you have to do is go to class take notes, do the journals which are very easy, and take her test. 3 test, 4 journal due dates and thats it! the test are rather long but if you take good notes then no problem! i would take her class again!
Prof. Carney is an awesome professor. Her lectures are in depth and you understand what she's talking about. I had issues with her tests but other than that she was great, I recieved a B in her class! I highly recommend her :D
I took her distance learning course last semester, and it was certainly no cake walk. You actually do have to turn in the weekly assignments, and the discussion boards are a little overwhelming. I pulled an 'A', but I had to work hard for it. Lots of reading of course. She actually does want her students to take something away from the course.
As long as you attend her class regularly, take notes, do journals (easy grade!), you should have no problem making a good grade. Tests were easy if you kept up with everything and took notes. I asked her a couple of questions and she seemed a little haughty, but besides that no complaints. YOU DO NOT NEED THE BOOK, don't waste your money.
BEST PROF EVER!!!!! I took her for both History 1301 and 1302. At first her test seem too much but THEY'RE NOT! as long as you study, it's easy. YOU DON'T NEED TO BUY A BOOK!! If you follow her lecture guideline and take notes from that, you have everything you need for your test! She's the best! I wish she taught Government!
Mrs. Carney is a great teacher to take for History! She talks about mostly everything that is on the test. There's really no need to buy the book because it's hardly used. She explains everything well and also reviews what she talked about the previous class. Awesome teacher!
Solid history teacher... however seems hell bent on manipulating student's political views to match her own.
Her tests are essay, and she always wants specifics! There is alot of writing in journals, taking notes, and writing an essay for the tests. If you dont like writing essays, this class is not for you
Professor Carney is a great teacher!!! You have to take notes but when she lectures she is very clear and easy to understand. Everything from the notes is on the test. I learned a lot from her and made good grades on all the test and journals.
her class is a lot writing but I enjoyed the things she made us write about.
She makes her lectures interesting, but her assignments and exams involve a lot of writing. If you like writing, this is the class for you.
Took in Spring 2010. Not easy, but I like her approach to history. Not just memorizing dates. Makes you THINK, and emphasized daily life (not just wars). A lot of writing too. If you're not into thinking and graded writing, don't take her class. But I found her helpful. Her "lectures" weren't all-inclusive: you needed to research in your textbook.
Pretty good professor in lecture and covers all the material that will be on the exam. Must attend class, don't even bother buying the book. My only complaint is that it takes her no less than 3 weeks to return Exam grades to students. She is also very unclear when answering questions, often answers a question with another question.
History 1302 with professor Carney is basically like picking up a 2nd English class. There are 3 exams and a tone of journal writings throughout the course. Professor Carney is a nice in general, but when it comes to essays she is a tough grader. These essays are worth up to 50% of you're test grade, and she is not easy to please.
Get ready for a ton of journal writing as well as having to write an essay (not a traditional English essay) for each test. She's really interested in your opinion on history, but doesn't leave time during class to talk about it. You'll take notes every single class for the entire period. Luckily, the tests are super easy. She's an acquired taste.
Lots of writing but really makes you understand the history better. Tests are easy. Very clear about what she wants you to know. Can be pretty funny. Makes lectures enjoyable as possible. Don't bother buying book. Wish I had found her for 1301. Definitely recommended. Easy A if you do what she asks.
I didn't mind all of the writing, but don't be confused, she does not want your opinion on history. She simply wants you to regurgitate her liberal views onto your paper. The key to an easy A in her class, record the lectures, listen to them while you're cooking, cleaning etc... Then on test day just spit everything she said back onto the paper
You wont ever need the textbook as long as you attend the lectures. There are also a few short journal entries you must do and some essays. Not hard though.
Lectures and tests are easy. but she assigns readings for every class period that you have to keep up on.
Classes are lecture only (I suggest typing notes), homework is reading period pieces and journaling. Journals are easy - just write what comes to mind andor answer questions she provides. Tests are multiple choice with a take-home essay. Show up, take notes, do the journals, use the study guide - you'll pass easily! Great teacher and class!
Her test are exactly like the lectures. Show up and you will pass its as simple as that TAKE NOTES. She makes class interesting! She does have a few essays and they are pretty easy. Please do not rant about other things. Stick with the topic do not mention another thing. She wants what she said to you repeated to her thats it. Easy A
She has hands down been the best history teacher that I have ever had! It's a bummer that I'm done takjing history classes, because I would definitely take her classes all over again if I could! The class is simple, all you have to do is the easy quizzes and do well on the tests and you will definitely pass!
Kind of dorky but she really tries to make you interested in History. Her syllabus outlines exactly what is expected. We did have to write a short paper but it wasn't too terrible. I would definitely take her again. She uses an online textbook that is free which is nice although I prefer an actual book.
She doesn't have power points so you pretty much have to listen to everything she says and write everything down. only 3 major exams the final is one of them, and one of the exams has a essay portion. She gives reading quizzes on blackboard. Would not take again.
What she goes over in class has nothing to do with the tests she gives. You really have to dig deep into history and know exactly what happened to pass her tests. She says that what she lectures is what will be on the test but that is wrong. She wont let you retake quizzes online either so if you miss a quiz, then too bad.
I couldn't be happier with Carney. She knows her history and her lectures aren't typical boring powerpoints. Study your notes and you WILL pass your tests. Simple online quizzes. This class is a breeze as long as you don't treat it like a blow off course. Wish I could've taken her for History 1 as well.
All the information you need for the tests, she will go over in the lecture. Don't buy the textbook, you don't need it. Come to class and you'll pass. She takes forever to grade assignments and doesn't always stick to the due dates on the syllabus. Passionate about history and makes the lectures exciting.
Loved her class! She made lectures interesting and actually kept me awake and did not feel like I was going to fall asleep. I hated History before her class .and now I actually like it . She gives study guides, but no extra credit. Would recommend her class for sure.
She's an awesome teacher, very passionate about what she is teaching. She does start class exactly at the time scheduled and will mark you tardy after roll is called. Very specific on what she's looking for. As long as you attend class & take notes you won't need your book. Exams are multiple choice questions. No extra credit or dropped test grades
Great lady, and understands the subject well. she does great explaining everything and puts lecture outlines online for you to follow. All test are multiple choice, journals are annoying to write but are easy to do. Long as you pay attention you'll be guaranteed an A
Really nice and helps if you are unsure. Class is nothing but long lectures and note taking. Test are easy if you study your notes and attend class everyday. You miss a day, you miss alot.
Not specific at all on what she wants on her tests. Tests are critical thinking, not multiple choice. Journals basically every week, if youre not a big history fan, you will hate these. She lectures the whole time so good luck staying awake. Often asks for YOUR opinion and says theres no wrong answer, then she grades it and says its wrong.
Gives ample opportunity to do extra credit and bring your grade up. Lectures hard and long, but it gets interesting after the first few weeks.
I took Ms. Carney for both HIST 1301 & 1302, she is by far one of the best professors that I've ever had. Her lectures are fun, and not too overwhelming. def would have taken again if I hadn't transferred
Took her for History 1301 and 1302: 1. Lecture heavy, similar to telling a story. Get a recorder. 2. PowerPoints are used, but not usually for note taking. 3. Responds quickly to emails. 4. Test 1301 - Essay type. 1302 15 multiple choice with some essay type questions. 5. Weekly or bi-weekly journals about someone from that chapter.
I took her 1302 course. There is usually a paper due each weekend up until the final. She isn't super specific about what she expects within them. Tests are mostly short answer/essay driven. I would suggest going to class everyday.
The lectures are great, it's mandatory that you show up for the lectures. She makes you do journals and read but they are not hard, just do it because there is no right or wrong answer. The tests weren't hard if you study, she always provides a study guide that is exactly what the test has. Her class was great and she's really awesome. Highly recom
Really sweet. Had her for dual credit class in HS. One of the best professors I've ever had. Has weekly journals but not hard, are abt what is discussed in class. Pretty understanding and easily accessible. Lectures are super boring but very informational so I suggest recording it. Study guides resemble tests. 10/10 recommend
Professor Carney is the most passionate U.S. History instructor you'll meet. She goes through various events and even has a set schedule. The lectures are lengthy for the most part, so make sure you're able to write notes that will make sense to you. If you're confused about anything you can always ask her about any missed content.
Ms. Carney is wonderful! The journals she assigns are easy and she offers numerous extra credit throughout the semester. Her exams are not entirely hard, they consists of 15 multiple choice and written responses. When writing the responses, make sure to go in depth and show insight! I also loved that she gave helpful feedback on journals and tests.
Professor Carney had to be my favorite out of all, she teaches with a passion and makes the lectures intersting. I have always hated history but she made me love it completely you actually learn.
Ms. Carney is one of the best professors Ive ever had in all my years. Honestly, I hated history.. but now history is one of my favorite subjects because of her. Her lectures are very detailed and interesting. You can tell shes very passionate about what she is doing. She assigns journals here (which are easy As) and gives extra credit.
Professor Carney Gives great notes, the way she explains things you can't help but learn. She has folders with journals that you have to write but she gives you EVERYTHING you need to complete them. She gives test reviews so you know what you will need to know. She really cares for her students and is an AMAZING teacher! I had her last semester too
Professor Carney is really sweet, you only take 3 test in this class. You have various journals, but honestly they help a lot. She also provides extra credit which is awesome!!
I literally love Professor Carney's online class. She makes online lectures clear and easy to understand/follow. I'd take notes if I were you to help on the tests. 1 quiz at the beginning over syllabus, then exam 1, then another easy quiz, exam 2, then the final. Exam's aren't hard if you study. Definitely going to look for her again!
I would not take this class again. Professor was okay work is easy just consistent but the lectures are too confusing. The videos are great but seem like a last-minute thing because she constantly says "Uhm." Overall okay
This class was not too hard, but the professor was very vague in her instructions. Every week you had a journal, but they were only graded every 4 weeks. The instructions for these journals were often vague. The worst part of the class was that you had less than two minutes per question on the tests and the professor did not offer makeup work.
Hands down my favorite class thus far. Her material and delivery are engaging and impactful. Review your material and notes prior to the test. Tests are timed, but not proctored. Essays throughout the class and on the first couple tests but no weekly homework. This class will make you think. I will definitely take Professor Carney for 1302.
This was a nice class because the homework (journals) were a great way to earn points. The class was mainly on a point system so just get as many points as you can. The tests however were extremely stressful with less than a minute per question. I know a lot of my classmates didnt do well. That was just kind of ridiculous to me.
She is an amazing professor! She explains the subject very well! The videos may be long, but all the content matters. I would definitely have this professor again if I could. She does not have a lot of homework, only journals (which are very easy). If you watch the videos and articles she posts, then you will pass the exams. I promise you that!
She's a sweet person but online teaching is not her thing. She only grades in Tests, quizes (only a few), and Journals. The journals are very difficuilt becasue she requires 500+ words to be wtitten when the promt could be answered in one paragraph minimum. Tests are worded badly making it hard to recall information that you learned.
Professor Carney is amazing! She doesn't have you memorize dates. She really just focuses on why certain events happened and its outcome. She grades easy and really cares about your opinion on topics. Listen to her lectures (lectures are engaging) and write good notes. You'll pass the class.
mrs. carney is an amazing professor and i am very glad i chose her as my instructor. i could tell shes very passionate about what she teaches and is very organized. coming to class matters as test qs can always be pointed back to her lectures. if you do take her, make attendance and concentrating in class a priority!
Only 400 points for the entire class. 300 points are tests (including final) with the remaining 100 points divided up into 10 small writing assignments. If you take her, you need to be at every lecture writing great notes. Everything on the test is what she lectures on. A lot of writing on tests. Small amount of extra credit.
THE BEST PROFESSOR EVER! She makes history interesting by telling it as a story and not just as a lecture. Only 10 assignments a semester and 3 tests. Very easy to retain information so don't miss lecture and take good notes! Took her class twice got A's both times! She rocks.
This teacher loves to target highschool students who are mixed within a class of college students. She will not allow you to socialize with the group of people you hang around, and will split you up with the hopes of you socializing but also not giving you the chance to speak.
Since we are mixed with college kids, its obvious we would only socialize with the kids we go up to the college with. She doesn't interact with the class and doesn't allow us to interact with each other either. She also has racist tendencies which is very upsetting as a fellow African American.
She loves to target minorities. Ms.Carney was really enjoying herself when discussing topics about slavery, and the formation of America. She feels as if slavery was justified because it allowed minorities to have free land, and that statement alone really bothered me. Ms.Carney also made a comparison of slaves being sold as fast as real estate.
horribel
bad job
This professor covers the material adequately, but loads each test with obscure information. Very tough grader, if you want an A, expect to study almost more then you are in class. She does not drop the lowest test grade or offer substantial extra credit.
Your final grade will be bases on the amount of points,EVERY POINT MATTERS?!Total of 11 Journals and 3 tests(first 5 are worth 10 points, other 5 are worth 20 points)last one is THE ONLY extra credit she gives which is worth 5 points. The last test is optional. To pass this class you NEED to attend ALL LECTURES. TAKE NOTES she wont provide them.
The way she teached history made me be interested in it. My time in class would go really fast and I enjoyed the lectures. The whole class periods are lectures. She always reviews a half of the last class lecture given for a refresh. I think her class was pretty good although she is very picky when grading. Only one time I got a 20/20 in a journal.
Make attendance and attention in class a priority! Take your own notes every lecture since she wont give you any. The whole course and your grade is based on the points not percentage! Only one extra credit assignment which is 5 points. The test are based on multiple choice and IDs (events or persons) which u will have to identify, explain, define
Loved taking her class so much, I signed up for the second version of the class with her. Very lecture heavy, and attendance is necessary in order to recieve a good grade. Just apply yourself and youll be fine.
Carney is truly the best teacher i have ever had. She completely changed my perspective on history, she made it so interesting. Every class is lecture, so take notes! She has a lecture outline so you know exactly what will be on her exams. Very easy class! If you miss a lecture, you can get the notes by reading the textbook. :)
she was nice as a person, but her tests were so much more difficult than you would expect. she doesn't really have a study guide, so your only hope is to... guess. her PowerPoints had a few words on it, so it was really hard to take notes. very hard to follow throughout the year
This is a SUPER SUPER boring class, if you're not interested in history don't take in the morning. Her study guides are comprehensive so you have to memorize 30 years' worth of events for her exam, which is pretty hard in my opinion and she is a tough grader. In general, don't take her if you don't like memorization and history.
This class is incredibly boring. The professor speaks quietly and lectures the entire time. If you're someone who easily gets sidetracked, do not take this class I repeat, do not.
