AWESOME TEACHER! I enjoyed going to this class. She is funny and knows her stuff. There is a required debate but don't let that discourage you because this is an awesome class and she is an awesome teacher. I'm glad I took this class with her.
Great teacher, always makes class interesting. Uses a lot of funny and vivid examples that apply to the material which makes it easier to retain information from the lecture. If you go to class and take notes AND read the book, its an easy A.
I took her intro to psych class in the fall of '09 when I was a freshman. I am currently a junior, and am a psychology major. To this day, she is still my favorite teacher. She makes psych 101 interesting, as it should be, and uses great examples in class and keeps it interesting for all people, even non psych majors.
Great teacher. This was my second class with her. She has the most interesting stories. Take this class with her if you can, you will learn a lot.
She is a great instructor and is quite funny. She has a lot of great stories from her years as a clinical psychologist. There are 4 pass/ fail papers and 4 tests. She provides a study guide but beware her tests are quite difficult. If you put in the time and study you should do fine though.
I loved this class and Dr. C! She is so enthusiastic every day and keeps her lectures exciting. I highly suggest her to everyone.
This was a great class! I had a great time and learned a lot. I highly recommend her to everyone. The slides are not online and you do need to know them so you do need to go to class. Also she shows various videos and demonstrations in class. But it's all very interesting. If you go to class you will do well.
The class is very interesting. High recommend taking this class. However you do have to study for the test and follow the guideline for the paper. It base on pass or fail. She give out extra credit before every test which also help a lot.
I loved professor Cavanaugh - Toft! She is very lively and pretty entertaining, which keeps you focused during her lectures. You can get away with not going to class as long as you read the material and get the notes. Tests are pretty easy as long as you pay attention. Enjoyed the class very much!
The best professor I've ever had! Dr. C explains ideas in detail and gives personal experiences to further detail her explanations. She is always in a positive and energetic mood, and has made me laugh to the point of tears on multiple occasions. I would recommend using the textbook to assist her lectures, and study ahead of time. Take her class!
She was the best professor I've ever had! She is interesting and interactive, and makes the class very fun. I hope I'll have her again one day.
Prof C is a terrific teacher, and because she is a working psychologist, she knows her stuff. She provides real world examples to help you remember the information too. Not hard, 4 pass-fail essays and 4 exams, but the last one is a cumulative final. Do the study guides!
Dr. C was a great teacher. She is engaging and kept the class interesting and fun. Her choice of textbooks was great and I enjoyed the writing assignments. Her tests are quite easy if you do the readings and go to lecture.
She is an awesome professor! Take her and you will not regret it. The class was really easy. My Advice: Attend class. They are really entertaining and she says 99% of everything you need to know.
amazing teacher. really knows he material and explains it in interesting ways that you remember!
Dr. C is a wonderful professor!I've taken her psych 101, abnormal, and abnormal child classes and have loved them all! She is fun and entertaining but also extremely knowledgeable. She has so much experience...her stories are fascinating! Definitely my favorite professor!
Dr. C is totally awesome! She is really fun, engaging and makes class exciting to go to. I wasn't all that interested in psych before her class and now I absolutely love it! Attendance isn't mandatory, but she doesn't put her notes online and she makes it fun anyway. The concept checks are easy and can be taken multiple times.
Super interesting and animated, will be sad to not have her as my professor next semester because she is that amazing at teaching, I will definitely be looking to take another psych class from her. It is not an easy A, lectures are really important to take notes on and do the study guides to do well on a test. An A is totally doable in her class
She's awesome! this is the perfect lecture to start off as a freshman or really any level. I enjoy going to class and her tests are pretty easy if you do the study guide. She's so nice to talk to and very funny. I'm definitely taking her for another class
Mrs. C is great. She is a really effective professor. She makes everything very entertaining. She gives vivid examples and tells stories that stick with you and help you learn. Sometimes she even acts out the concept...watching her pretend to be a neurotransmitter was very entertaining. Take a class from her for sure!
YOU NEED THE TEXTBOOK. Fun teacher, do the study guides fully and study them for a couple hours and you will get an A.
This was the best class I have ever taken! Dr. C made me want to come to class everyday, not that you necessarily have to but it will definitely help you on your tests. Plus she makes it class interesting and fun. I would highly reccomend taking a class from Dr. C! Read the chapeter and do concept quizes, this is not an easy A class but can happen
Probably the best teacher I have ever had in my life. She is extremely good at geting the material across, extremely helpful, and extremely funny. Just an all-around incredible person and teacher. I highly recommend her.
I could not recommend this professor enough she is one of those rare teachers who make their students excited to come to class. Intro to psych is the most failed class at ASU though so be prepared for a rough ride but in all honesty if you go to class and study the online quizzes you will do fine. (I got an A).
She was great! A wonderful person and teacher. I had her my freshman year for PGS 101, had a blast! She gets everything straight across with little confusion and a ton of enthusiasm. I'm currently trying to get her Abnormal Psych class but with no luck! Her classes seem to fill up very quickly so if you have a chance to get her, DO IT!
Dr. C is a great professor: clear, concise, interesting, entertaining, and understanding. I had a health issue that caused me to miss the final exam and she had no problem letting me reschedule it (with documented proof). She is easy to approach after class and is very helpful. Do the study guides and you'll pass the tests. Fun class!
I LOVED this class. Professor Cavanaugh-Toft is great. She always makes the material clear and often includes interesting/funny anecdotes that really helped me remember the content. Her tests are comprehensive and do not set out to trick you. Definitely my favorite general ed class I've ever taken.
I loved her!! She really is passionate about Psychology and her lectures are really easy to understand. If you attend class you will pass easily!
LOVE her! I believe her class is better than mr. shorts because theres more points given out instead of just the main tests. If you go to class and read somewhat of the text it is easy! and the quizzes can be taken unlimited times and are online.
Wonderful professor! Very helpful and energetic with good stories to help you remember material. Get the textbook, she does pull information out of it for the exams. Review the exams after you take them! It will help. You need to study to do well because it is a lot of material but it is not too hard to get a good grade. Cumulative final!
Dr. C is perhaps one of the best professors at ASU. This class is interesting on its own, but she makes its that much better! I highly recommend this class, even as an elective! I had such a great time too bad its over..Get the textbooks though because they are helpful. Exams are not easy, but not hard. Just come to class and study you'll be fine.
She basically just tells stories in class and the tests do not correlate with what she says. Do the assignments because of the points (they won't help you learn anything). Go to class because you get points for that as well. Or just don't take the class.
There are only three words that describe Dr. C: Best, Best and Best--but really, she's amazing! That's all.
Dr. C is incredible! I absolutely loved her class. She knew how to keep her students interested, even during content that wasn't all that exciting. Attendance is not mandatory. 4 test throughout the semester and a final, but if you at least scan the textbook you'll be fine. Definitely would recommend!
Dr. C is so helpful, and genuinely cares about her students. If you aren't an honors student, it seems like a lot of work but if you stay on top of it it si a very interesting class
I'm currently taking this course and it is very interesting. She is probably the best professor I have had yet. I love her class, she makes things interesting and makes sure you understand the material. Attend class it's worth it. I would recommend her to anyone.
If you're patient enough that you can stand her telling uninteresting stories for every bullet point in the pp, then this is your class.I'm disappointed that I was interested in the class before and this professor is so boring and is always behind. Mainly I learned all the info from the textbooks and slept in class because attendance was required.
Mrs. C is awesome!!! She is very enthusiastic and very clear. There's no homework other than completing research credit hours and weekly concept checks (easy online quizzes). You can pass without even going to class if you read the book, but you're going to want to attend her lectures because they're actually interesting, and also if you want an A.
Dr. C is probably one of my favorite humans. Her class was so interesting and she presented the material in an organized, INTERESTING, and helpful way. The class is not easy though, reading is definitely required. If her class is available, TAKE IT. She also puts humor in her exams, makes them somewhat fun to take
AMAZING. By far one of the best teachers I have ever had. She is so full of energy and keeps lectures lively and interesting. I came in with no background knowledge, but learned so much from her. Great class, great teacher!
Great professor! She really loves teaching! She used real life examples from her practice as a psychologist to really help drive the point home on various topics. Even though some of this stuff is kinda depressing, she makes it really interesting.
In short Dr. C is awesome take her class. Class consists of 3 tests and 11 shorter assignments. While this isn't the easiest A, work decently and it isn't hard to attain. Plus Dr. C is a very informed and interesting lecturer
Dr.C is great. I love the fact that she uses real life examples in class to really put things into perspective. Also, she is very funny, she always has the class laughing every time we meet. Study for the test as they are the main part of your grade. Test are not my thing, therefore I unfortunately received a D in the class.
She always had amusing stories & she's a genuinely sweet person. However, I honestly thought her tests were completely terrible. Some study guides when completely filled out were as long as 20 pages! It was absurd how hard the tests were & they did not seem to reflect the material covered in class. I worked my butt off on this class to receive a B.
Loved this class! I ended up with a B but went to class only 75% of the time and only skimmed the book. She is seriously so funny in a geeky way. her last words to the class were "do your ASU course evaluations and give me a chili pepper on rate my professor!!"
The lectures are by far the most important part of the class. The book is never used, but if you attend every lecture, even without taking notes, the tests are a breeze. Show up and pay attention and the class is pretty easy. Prof. Cavanaugh-Toft is very nice and approachable, and the content is not difficult.
She was really passionate about the subject which made the class very engaging. While going to class is not mandatory for the class (no attendance taken) it was extremely helpful and definitely worth the 50 minutes spent! I would love to take all of her offered classes! Best PSY 101
Dr. C is super nice, fun, and enthusiastic about her work. She used many examples from work as a clinical psychologist (always making sure to protect her clients' identities)to help us with identifying disorders. She's an awesome teacher and I would recommend her to anyone interested in psychological disorders, psychopharmacology, and a fun class.
One of the most engaging and intelligent professors I have had at ASU. Attendance was not mandatory but there were participation points for being there. She made the material fun and easy to comprehend. Tests and weekly assignments are relatively easy as well.
One of the best professors here at ASU.
Dr. C is awesome! She is very informative and animated. Her lectures are never boring. Go to class and take notes and you will do fine!
Dr. C is hilarious and very helpful. As long as you go to lecture and do your study guide, you will get an A in the class. She's awesome! ASU should have her teach Clinical Psych.
She is a fantastic professor! She has so much knowledge abut the subject and is so helpful!
So helpful! made class so fun!
Go to class. It is fun and interesting and Dr. C is absolutely amazing. Easy A if you just review your class notes. She was the only professor I actually wanted to talk to during office hours.
Dr. Cavanaugh-Toft is my favorite professor here at ASU! Intelligent, hilarious, and just brimming with awesomeness, she is incredibly helpful and wants her students to succeed. Gives many stories from her clinical work. Exams fairly easy, assignments easy - just go to class and review the study guides for the exams. Textbooks were interesting too!
This class is interesting but tough. Must attend lecture each week to take notes because she doesn't post the slides online. 11 assignments and 4 tests (including cumulative final). Most of lecture is stories from her cases and clients. The tests are really tough because there is ALOT of stuff to study and memorize. Probably better to take online.
I took this class this past spring as a freshman, as it was my first class having a psychology minor. Dr. C was one of the best teachers I've ever had. Such an interesting class, and is very engaging and good at what she does. 11 assignments, 3 tests, plus a cumulative final. Show up to class, read the books, and you'll succeed. That simple.
I really enjoyed her class! She gave great real-life examples of disorders so that students could understand how to identify the various disorders. She also was very helpful outside of class, and just fun overall. I highly recommend her!
This professor has been incredibly helpful in class. She has helped me with things beyond just the scope of the class and truly cares about her students. The class (Abnormal Psychology) is also very interesting and relevant.
Dr. C is wonderful! I have taken 2 of her classes, and she really cares about her students. Tests cover lots of material, but if you go to class and use the study guide she sends out prior to the test, you can do well. I can't stress enough how much she cares about her students, both their grades and their well-being. And she's such a fun person!
Pretty much what you would expect for Abnormal Psych. Lots of material so tests are long. Her examples from personal clinical experience add some interesting touches to lecture. Not bad, not amazing.
If you took her for 101: DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Attendance is required but she doesnt post slides online. Even in class we rarely got through more than 5 slides. Tests are primarily based off two books, but study guides unclear. I did very well on the tests & assignments but it shouldn't have taken the effort it did. Cool person- Bad class
She is such a funny person always giving great real life examples. After class lots of students like telling her their experiences with the different disorders, and although she probably has to deal with a lot of "well my grandma does this" she always seems to be interested. The books are pricey and you need them to complete homework assignments!
This class is awesome. It is the most interesting class I've taken at ASU. The teacher is brilliant and knows absolutely everything which makes class so fun. You will never get bored. However - you have to read soooo much to be able to do well on the tests. And you MUST go to class because they don't post lectures. Take this class - it is awesome!
Really great class. The lectures are great and they remind me of why I'm in college learning. She talks about a lot of personal experience and she has amazing stories. She's also hilarious and appreciates class participation. - there is a cumulative final - she tries to offer a lot of help. Don't be afraid to ask.
Dr. C is seriously the best psychology professor I have had at ASU! Her lectures are so interesting and go by fast because she makes everything so relatable and easy to understand. If you do the assignments (5 points each, pretty simple), go to class, and do the study guides the tests aren't too bad. Definitely take!!!!!!!!
Dr. C is an AMAZING and engaging professor! She has a true love of psychology. Be ready to study and read as the amount of content is astronomical, but extremely interesting. She has smart TAs who hold study sessions which are beneficial to your learning process. You HAVE to attend class to pass. Isn't that what you are paying for? :)
At first I wasn't the biggest fan of her, but by the end of the semester she was my favorite teacher. She really cares about her students and if they succeed. There is a debate for this class, but it actually is not too bad and kind of fun. Also tests are all essay and short answer and require a lot of studying.
Everyone is saying she's a cool teacher, and Id agree, but that doesn't mean this is a good class. The class structure is awful. I received A+'s on tests, but that was after a frustrating amount of preparation. She doesn't post slides, usually only covers 5, has two lengthy textbooks, class discussions that go too long, and does attendance.
A ton of reading, need to read the book and take good notes in class to pack. Final exam is cumulative and very hard. All exams are hard. Great teacher, very funny and keeps lectures fun. Lots of assignments and studying.
Very intelligent! She's witty and quirky- one of my favorite professors. Not many points in the class, so when you have the opportunity to get extra points- do so! The tests are tough and specific. Make sure you study and study because only a few words on the exam will clue you in to the right answer. But the Professor makes the class worth it!
Hands down my favorite teacher at ASU. She makes every class interesting and she really knows her stuff. Do all the assignments and take notes during lecture and you will get a good grade. Highly recommended!!!
Funny professor, and an easy A if you show up and pay attention. She doesn't post slides, so take notes. I suggest using a computertablet, as you want to write fast so you can listen to her stories, as they help on tests. 10 online assignments, but she drops the lowest one (In-text citations matter most). Casebook and textbook used for study guide
I love Dr. C! I've already signed up for another course with her. She's funny and engaging. What everyone else is saying is true. Lots of reading and participation is required. Normally, I don't rate professors, but that chilly pepper seemed important to her, so that's why I'm here.
Best teacher in my entire academic experience. I say she deserves a promotion. She grabs your attention, she is always available for office hours, and she cares about you as an individual.
Dr. C is THE BEST Abnormal Psych professor at ASU. She's funny and engaging and her stories make the concepts STICK. Tests are straightforward and it's a light workload for an upper division course.
I LOVED Dr. C's class, and while some of that was because of the content, she was incredible. Picked up my Psych minor because of PSY366. Two books and I recommend both, because you have to use the case study for assignments and the Textbook is useful for tests if there is something she doesn't go in depth on--you'll know from the study guide.
Dr. C gives great lectures, is very clear and very helpful. This class is a lot of work, but she is as accommodating as possible. She is always there to answer questions and her lectures are very interesting and funny. Would absolutely take her class again!
Tests are short answer questions with one longer essay which scared me at first but she gives out a study guide ahead of time, so if you just study that you'll be good. Debates are group projects and require public speaking which I don't like but I just told my debate group that and only had to talk for 2 minutes in the debate. Great class, easy A!
I took both abnormal and child abnormal with her because she's seriously the best! She's an awesome lecturer, so funny. I'm honestly sad that I'm graduating and don't get to be in her classes anymore. There are just assignments and tests. They aren't hard if you go to class! And you definitely should because she doesn't post the notes on BB
The class was very easy as long as you go to class. Exams are fill in blank and short essay but again, easy if you go to class and do study guide, dont even need to read the book. There is a group debate but its not so bad. She is a super fun teacher and makes the subject VERY interesting by incorporating examples from her clients.
AWESOME TEACHER!!! So enthusiastic which makes her class that much more fun. She knows exactly what she is talking about and makes it very clear. Reading the textbook is a must because she doesn't go over all of the material in the book but will test you on it. DO NOT SKIP CLASS. Don't save studying for the night before. Overall an awesome class.
Great Teacher. Has a paper due each week, but only 3 test. Class was fun, and had a small debate at the end of the semester. Can get an A but you have to do the work.
Dr. C is hilarious. Going to class genuinely feels like going to a comedy show about psychology. She does expect you to learn and to study and her assignmentstests reflect that, but taking her classes is always a pleasure. She's very clear about everything and is always happy to answer questions and help you if you don't understand.
She was a decent teacher, very amusing at times. I took her last year and I remember the second day of class she made a joke about the Michael Brown shooting that was not appropriate. I think she needs to realize she shouldn't bring her political ideals into a class about psychology.
I like Dr. C. I don't think going to class is absolutely mandatory. A lot of reading, and exam questions often have tricky questions about small minutia of text. Interesting material though so I didn't mind reading it. Going to class helps a lot but I think you can pass without going
One of the best professors I've ever had. Took psych in high school, but did not truly understand it until I took her class. Took her class at 9 am and never once wanted to skip it.
Dr. C is one of my favorite psychology professors at ASU. Her stories and experiences really enhance the topic. The study guides might seem like a lot but they really are helpful. My advice is to fill out the study guides and study off of those. Then you'll be set for the tests.
She is an amazing professor and makes the criteria easy to learn because she incorporates humor into every lecture. By far my favorite class this semester. Studying is required though because tests can be tough if you don't understand the content.
So cooky and I love it! Show up to class and start studying for tests at least 3 days in advance (I try to start studying a week in advance) She does her best to give you an A (drops lowest test score). Her tests are only difficult because there is so much to learn, but the questions are clear- she doesn't try to trick you. You can def get an A.
Honestly probably one of the best professors I have had, if not the best. Sad that the class was so big that I couldn't get to know her on a personal level. She made Psychology so fun and entertaining. Everyone should take her. Even all the students always showed up for the 9am because she was so engaging.
Dr. C is great! Her lectures are fun and interesting. To get a good grade you really have to do well on exams since there are not many other opportunities to get points.
There are 4 tests a semester plus a midterm and a final. The lowest test score gets dropped which is awesome! Responds to email within a reasonable amount of time. She is always there to answer any questions or just to have a great conversation. She has awesome lectures! Tests are both text-based and lecture-based so do both!
Great Professor! Interesting stories, hilarious personality, presents information in a unique and interesting way. Assignments are straightforward and only occasionally lengthy. Tests are made entertaining with wording but the style of questions and application of information may be an adjustment. Loved her class!
There isn't that many points available. And this is the only psy class I know that takes a final exam. Take Short he curves.
Dr. C is the most amazing and interesting professor I have had yet. She is very easy to listen to making her lectures very fun. She is so funny and knowledgeable about what she teaches. Her tests have little jokes in them which I liked. You really need to study to pass the class though, which should be expected. I would take this class again!
Thoroughly enjoyed this class. Cavanaugh-Toft has a great lecture style. Her notes were clear, and supplemented by fascinating stories from her own experiences as a practicing psychologist. I would love to have her as a professor again.
Dr. C is by far my favorite professor at ASU. She keeps her lectures very interesting, and she always has relevant stories that relate to class topics. Her tests can be tough, but as long as you do the study guides, you'll do fine!
Great professor, highly recomend
She's my favorite teacher of this semester! She makes lectures super fun and worth going to. If you go to class, stay on top of doing concept checks, and use the skeleton notes on her website, you'll do more than fine.
She gives the best lectures!
She is one of the best professors I have ever had. She is kind, considerate, full of knowledge and passion and truly makes you want to come to class and be attentive. I'm used to professors not caring, but she wants everyone to do their absolute best.
Super funny, very friendly, incredibly knowledgeable in Psychology. Never took attendance, but left you wanting to go to class. While it is possibly to get an A with never attending, much of the exams are based off things she lectured on specifically in class.
Her tests are so hard. The assignments are easy as long as you follow directions, but you have to study for the exams. Further than just doing the study guide you really really have to work for a good grade on a test.
Dr. Cavanaugh is very knowledgeable about the material and genuinely cares for you and your grade. However, if you're not a psych major, the exams can be pretty tough so study! You need the book because although she covers items in class a lot of questions on exams are more in depth. 10 assignments but lowest two get dropped.
Dr. C was one of the most entertaining professors I have had at ASU! She makes going to class enjoyable and interesting. She is extremely knowledgeable about this topic. I would most definitely recommend.
Interesting class, knowledgeable professor. There are 11 assignments, lowest two are dropped. Overall, pretty easy class. I got an A even though I barely studied and rarely cracked open the book
Dr C is one of the most amazing teachers I've had in my college carreer! I always looked forward to going to the lectures, the reading wasn't hard because I enjoyed it, and Dr C is SO knowledgable about her subject. I highly recommend this course!
She's hilarious and super fun. Keeps you engaged and makes you want to attend class even though attendance is already mandatory. Several small assignments for easy points. Would easily take her again! So cool.
This was an okay class. You don't really have to listen to her lecture, her PowerPoints have all the information, but she doesn't post the lectures. Essentially, one 2 pg. paper a week, 3 tests, and a group debate. The tests are free response and pretty difficult. As long as you study, you'll be fine.
If you're gonna take Ab Psych in-person, I heavily recommend taking it with Dr. C! Go to class because about half of each test is information she specifically mentions in her lectures. If you don't skip classes and use the textbook for study guides, her tests are a piece of cake. 10/10 would take again
Amazing teacher, awesome lectures. Very little homework. Tests are easy if you pay attention to assignments and lectures. Caring teacher. Recommend for psychology 10/10
Dr. C could not be more amazing. She is a professor that has a great teaching technique and leaves you wanting to go to class. Attending lectures is recommend since a lot of test questions are directly from lectures. She is very approachable and cracks a lot of jokes. If you do the concept checks and study for tests, you should be fine.
She was the first professor I've had, and it was the best experience ever. She knows exactly what she's talking about, her lectures are amazing, and she's a very nice person. Just make sure to go over the notes you take during class and read the book and you'll do well.
If you actually attend class, this is an easy good grade!
Professor CT is awesome! She is super engaging and funny and makes class a lot more easy to be in. Tests are from lecture and the textbook. They are not super difficult if you have good notes and keep up with the reading. She answers questions thoroughly and always makes time for everyone. Am taking her again next semester!
Dr. C is very passionate about what she does! (Just to say a little... sick or not sick, she gives her lectures her absolute all!) Do your part just like you would in any other class and you will be golden.
This class is not what I expected. Also Dr. C was not what I expected. She explains things too much and we do not cover everything we should have in class. She also has tough TAs who grade homework way too hard. I do not recommend her, but she was not the worst. 3 exams, 11 homework assignments, 1 final, and participation (attendance).
Absolutely loved her. Lectures consist mostly of personal stories but it helps to be able to recall the information later on and to tie it back. She is absolutely hilarious as well. I would take every course from her if I could.
Cavanaugh-Toft might just be the funniest teacher I have ever had. She always has a ton of energy and is running around. Her lectures were great, and pretty easy to follow. My only complaint would have to be that the study guides were very lengthy and it was hard to tell what was the most important, making the test pretty difficult.
Dr. C is such an awesome teacher! She keeps the class engaged even on boring topics and always plays a song or funny video at the start of class. Pay attention, print and fill out the note guides and do the concept checks and you'll do great! As long as you do the study guides, there will be no surprise questions on the test.
I really hate how all the points are just on the Exams, I didn't her class is very hard don't ever take her class. She's fun and everything however there aren't any fun when she puts the grades and the exams are hard. It was terrible.
She wasn't easy, but not outside of the normal. She definitely made the class worth it with her lectures. My class was at 9 am and she manage dto keep everyone awake! Keep in mind the class does need effort. Test questions require both coming to lecture AND reading the textbook. Drops 1 of 4 lowest test.
Probably the best professor at ASU. She is funny and really helps you succeed in the course. She genuinely cares for her students and is willing to help in any way possible.
She has awesome stories from her own experiences working that make lectures interesting. Great sense of humor that lightens the sometimes heavy topics. Study guides are super helpful for tests, good review sessions, helpful TAs, all around a great experience. Books are helpful to review for tests, but not entirely necessary in my opinion.
In my opinion, Dr. C was AMAZING. You could tell she really cared and wanted her students to succeed. She made the lectures interesting and funny. Her tests usually have things from her lectures and the book but as long as you pay attention (won't be hard with her) you'll pass with a good grade. Can't wait to take her for abnormal psych!
Had her last semester, is one of the best professors I've had at ASU if not the best. Covers a lot of material but with it comes personal experiences and stories that are hilarious and easy to make connections. Books are definitely needed.
I love the professor, it's her TA that makes this class so difficult to get a good grade in. She does not post notes online, her TA grades papers like we are graduate's, and exams are difficult because they require Respondus Lockdown and are all short answer and one essay. Overall, 3 exams, 11 papers, and a group debate, no final. Tough course
Take this teacher for any class that you have the option!! Dr. C is very passionate about her field, has a vast experience in it, and her lectures are easily one of my favorite parts of the day. If you do the study guides and go to her reviews there is no reason you shouldn't get an A. Very accessible and straightforward, 5/5 stars!
Dr. C is one of the most caring, genuine profs I've had. She has really interesting stories from her clinical experience for every chapter in the class and is great at getting students to understand the disorders and think critically. 3 exams + 1 final + 11 hw assignments (2 dropped). If you're going to take PSY366, take her. She's the best
Dr. C was awesome and really cared about what she was teaching. There were weekly Knowledge Checks based on the textbook, but honestly, I didn't even have to use the textbook to do them. There are four exams and the lowest test score is dropped. There is also a requirement to participate in studies, which was a great experience!
A really interesting class taught by an amazing professor. Course load included 11 homework assignments (2 are dropped), 3 tests, a cumulative final, and a few random extra credit opportunities. Tests aren't too bad so long as you complete the study guides.
Dr. C i s amazing. Lectures are super engaging and fun to attend. 11 assignments (5 pts each)&she drops the 2 lowest scores. Tests are 50 pts, final 60 pts. Not a lot of EC opportunities so do well on exams and hw! books are on reserve at the library so no real need to buy them tbh. Looove Dr. C; wish I was a psych major so i could take her again!
Such a fun class. Attend the lectures, they're enjoyable & the examples she gives are helpful. Provides a study guide for each test & organizes a study review session before each test. Take notes, do the reading, & study & you'll do well. Tests are fair, & the homework is not difficult. Loved the class & would take another with Dr. C if I could.
Amazing professor, she actually cares about her students and makes class really enjoyable! The class is hard but she really helps you learn the material instead of just memorizing it. I was excited to go to class and I would definitely take it again!
The class isn't very interesting but Dr. C tries to make jokes and try to liven up the info. She's loud sometimes though, so if you don't really like that, definitely don't take her class in the morning. The only grades she really offers are tests and concept checks. You can kinda get by without the textbook, but you get a better grade by using it.
SO energetic, I had PSY101 in the morning and her lectures immediately woke me up. Though attendance isn't taken it's best to just go to class as everything that is tested in understood in the lectures. She's hilarious and has a way of teaching where her stories will help you remember the terms/concepts. Loved her!
Dr. C moved at such a slow pace, sometimes getting through only 3 slides a day. Exams covered some information not covered in class only found in the textbooks; it was a waste of time outside of class going through material that could have easily been covered in class had she managed to limit herself from telling a ridiculous amount of stories
Just post slides ahead of lecture plz. Makes studying easier. Sometimes u miss one lecture and wont have notes until days before test. Also some concepts werent covered at all on study guide.
Very interesting lectures. She had stories for everything which really helped remembering the things taught in class. Tests and homework were easy. Very caring. Had extra credit opportunities.
She's a G and a real cool person. Lectures are fun but a lot of material on the test and study guides were not covered. Quizlet saved me, since the study sets for the questions on the study guides were made by past students. Not very much work at all. Take advantage of extra credit too. Ez points and made a difference in my grade
Cavanaugh-Toft was an amazing professor and has a very extensive background in the field of psychology. Participation matters because it is an extra 10 points added to your final grade. Tests and assignments weren't extremely difficult, however you do have to read the book and study fairly decent to receive a high grade. 10/10 would take her again!
Her lectures are so entertaining and every little example she gives helps you to remember the material that is being covered. Her test are a bit tough though and do require you to study a lot but it is fairly easy to get an A.
Dr C is a good professor. She has a good way of presenting the material so that it sticks. There are four exams throughout the semester including the final which is half cumulative. Around 10 homework assignments which are time consuming but pretty easy to do. She gives lots of real examples and is *kind of* funny. Make sure you read both textbooks
I had Dr. C for PSY101 & she's hilarious and super approachable! You really have to try to fail her class. Grades are composed of about 10 10-question concept checks, 4 exams, 1 final and research participation. literally just do the study guides and you will be fine!
I highly recommend this class to anyone who needs to take or is interested in taking abn. psych. She is hilarious during every lecture but also provides really useful information for any career you may take on. Tests are MC and doable, assignments are simple, just pay attention to what the study guides say to focus on. Love this class.
Seriously my favorite teacher I have ever had hands down. Class is so interesting, I even was disappointed sometimes when we ran out of time it was that fun to learn. The tests are difficult and require some critical thinking, but she provides study guides and review sessions led by TA's. Please take this class.
Dr C is probably my favorite professor on campus. Her classes are interesting and she makes jokes to make it fun. Definitely go to the lectures because some things on the tests are about the stories she tells. She always makes sure you know that she is available to help you or even if you just want to talk.
I took Dr. C for my PSY 101 and my PSY 366 class, she is hilarious and makes long lectures very entertaining. Does require attendance but is not too harsh on it. Homework is pretty simple, about every two to three weeks. Provides great study guides, making her exams a lot easier.
I took Dr. C in my first semestre of college and honestly, I am so glad I did! I attended SI sessions regularly and they help, but some kids don't need them. I love the little anecdotes and jokes she makes in class that not only makes lectures more enjoyable, but also easier to remember. It's a tough class, but fun and interesting.
Dr. C has by far been one of my FAVORITE professors ever! She's extremely educated on the topic, approachable, absolutely hilarious and her stories always tie into the material and actually help you remember material for the exams. I honestly wish I could take a class from her again. One of the best classes I've had in my college career.
Dr. C is one of the most knowledgeable and definitely the most fun professors I've ever had. She knows so much about the field of abnormal psychology and has plenty of stories to back it up! (pay attention to her stories they are super helpful for remembering the material) There is never a dull lecture so definitely don't miss class. 10 out of 10
Dr. C is hilarious. She makes content that could possibly be uninteresting and finds a way to make it enjoyable. She tells lots of stories that are relevant to course material.
Carolyn was EASILY the best professor Ive ever had, and probably ever will. Im sad to see the class end. The content of the class is already pretty interesting, but her anecdotes make lecture SO engaging. I never missed a single class, because I looked forward to lecture. She truly cares about people, and is incredibly passionate about her work.
She is one of my favorite professors at ASU. Her is amazing and even though attendance is not crucial to your grade I would not miss a lecture. The home work is not hard and if you pay attention you will be golden. Make sure to get both text books though! Love her!
Shes really cool, but I honestly didnt find lectures that entertaining and would not look forward to class. she also speaks really fast but shes super nice and super helpful. tests are kind of hard but make sure to study and attend class and youll be fine!
I absolutely loved this professor so much!! her lectures are very entertaining. You do need to study for her exams they are multiple choice, she has assignments you have to do but they are fairly easy, you do need to read! Overall I would most definitely take her class again!
She is awesome! So funny and you can tell she's really passionate about the subject. Makes the class super interesting, I never want to miss class. She plays a fun song before every class. Very encouraging. She likes to put jokes in the exams. Quizzes are not regular, if we have one it's once in a blue moon and online.
By far she has been my favorite professor. The class and assignments are all fairly easy, but the tests... not so much. On the bright side, she drops your lowest exam grade at the end of the semester. She has AMAZING lectures that are hard to find boring. She really engages you in the class and makes things easy to understand. Just study for tests!
Dr. C is a fantastic professor! Her lectures are really engaging, and the class is enjoyable. The tests are multiple choice, BUT the content can be tricky sometimes. Overall, you really do have to read the online text book and study in order to get the grade you want. I highly recommend taking this class with her!
Really great, fun, and engaging lectures. I always look forward to going to this class. Read the online textbook and take good notes to pass, the tests are very straight-forward and there are always opportunities to get help during office hours. Wouldn't take PSY101 with any other instructor.
She is very funny! But if you dont go to class you will not pass this class! She is a tough grader but you will not get a lot of homework. Get ready to read the online text book. She also gives a lot of extra credit out. No group projects ever. Her grading is not very clear but you can figure it out. Doesnt give much feedback.
Dr. C is amazing! Her lectures are so funny and so memorable! She gives skeleton notes so you dont have to hastily write down everything from the lecture. She gives study guides before each test that really REALLY! the textbook is online and free so thats a positive! If you don't go to class though you will have a tough time.
Wow! She is one amazing professor. If you show up to class you'll get 15 extra credit points. She's offers a free online textbook. Attendance is MANDATORY. No laptops or technology allowed during class. Four tests, lowest test score is dropped.12 easy assignments, tons of outside resources available. Really easy tests!
She is a really awesome professor! The textbook provided with the class is for free, and you only need to purchase a $5.00 app for attendance. There is a lot of material to learn, but she has review sessions and study guides to help out. She also offers a lot of opportunities to gain extra credit. If you work hard, you should get an A.
I loved Dr. C's class! She puts thought and effort into her lectures, and she will answer questions to make sure concepts are as clear as possible. She regularly schedules office hours with herself and TA's so students have plenty of opportunity to ask questions if needed. She tends to have a story for everything, they always apply to the lecture.
Dr. C is by far the best prof I have ever had, in both the psych department and in SOLS. She cares about students, truly. She wants us to succeed. Her lectures are not mandatory, however, she does not post the lecture slides and will include questions from material only mentioned in class BUT Go to class- its entertaining and educational.
Dr C is awesome! I really liked her Abnormal Psych class. She doesn't post her lectures, so going to class is a must, but the time goes by quickly. She shares a lot of funny stories too which helps you remember the content. Your grade consists of exams and 10 easy assignments (lowest one is dropped).
Dr. Cavanaugh Toft is the best professor I have ever had. She is so reasonable, hilarious, and helpful. You can tell that she is an expert in her field. I looked forward to her class every day because she makes the content so interesting and fun. The way she teaches also makes it really easy to remember the information. Take her classes!!!!!
Dr. C is an amazing professor! Her lectures are captivating and fun. If you pay attention in class and keep up with readings, the tests are pretty easy (and she drops one of them). I would definitely recommend taking this course
I LOVED Dr. C! She is is very good at giving you the right information in an enjoyable way. She has amazing stories. Honestly take her even if you're not a psych major. The homework is just enough that it's not overwhelming
Dr C is a very engaging and friendly professor. She is clearly very knowledgeable. However, I found that her psych class was much more difficult than other psych 101s, meaning I did much more work than my other friends who had different professors. Lots of work but she makes it enjoyable. If you're looking for an easy A in Psych 101 this isn't it
This was the best class I have ever taken, Dr. C is really amazing. She's an amazing prof, and she really cares. Her teaching style makes it super easy to learn the material and retain it. We did have an online textbook (FREE!) but I honestly read it one time and I still passed the class with an A. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TAKING THIS CLASS!
This was the best class I have ever taken, Dr. C is really amazing. She's an amazing prof, and she really cares. Her teaching style makes it super easy to learn the material and retain it. We did have an online textbook (FREE!) but I honestly read it one time and I still passed the class with an A.
Dr C was really funny and her lectures are really easy to pay attention to. Her tests are kind of hard but nothing extreme. One hw per week
Her class is honestly one of, if not the, best classes I've ever taken. As long as you reach the chapters and GO TO THE LECTURES and take notes, you'll easily pass with an A. She's hilarious and makes sure that the class is never boring. I always find myself listening and paying attention because her class is that engaging.
Such a good professor, tells lots of stories so its easy to connect the material to the stories when it comes time for exams. Exams are decently difficult but not horrible, just study.
Dr. C is one of the best, most informative and relatable teachers I have ever had. She gives engaging examples of lecture material from her own practice and makes you want to go to class every time eve though attendance isn't required. However you will do much better on assignments and not have to read if you attend lecture.
Dr. C is an amazing instructor. She makes class so much fun and interesting. I was never bored and always excited to go to her lectures!
Loved her!! Lectures were so interesting and she always had great stories/examples. Warning: some textbook questions did show up on the test so make sure you read. Assignments (10 over the semester) were a pain in the butt because you get marked off for not citing correctly. Overall great class and professor.
3 take home midterms, 10 3-page papers, 1 5-page paper and a group debate. Dr. C is fantastic, caring and makes you want to come to class. This class was time consuming, but genuinely interesting, and she has so much experience in a clinical setting that she brings in to the course. Highly recommend her for any psych course!
Dr C. is one of my favorite professors i've ever had. She is extremely knowledgable and helps you remember disorders by using examples. The examples are then used on the tests. Biggest issue was the grade book. There is no grade the whole semester. You have to do the math yourself without assignments in. Other than that, incredible course.
Dr. C is easily one of the best profs I have taken while at ASU. The course goes into great depth about psychopathology and I really enjoyed hearing about Dr. C's clinical experience. She is so sweet and very accessible to talk about the course, graduate school, and life in general. Have taken every class with her that I can!
Dr. C is one of the best professors I have ever had! The class is pretty hard you learn about 40 disorders, but she always gives great examples to help you remember what someone with a certain disorder would be like. Super great lady, really cares about her students.
I LOVE this class. Most people hate huge lectures but Dr. C made it one of my favorite classes. She's hilarious and so cool to hear talk about psychology, even if you don't particularly like the subject, you will after taking her class. This was the one class that I enjoyed going to the lectures and I never skipped mainly because I didn't want to.
Dr. C is by far my favorite professor that I have ever taken! She's super funny and super knowledgeable. She tells a lot of stories in class that help you understand the material better. There's 10 assignments, 3 exams, and an optional final. Looking forward to taking another class with her.
Super funny, makes class interesting, and exams are easy if you actually come to class. She doesnt post lecture slides online so you have to attend.
She is an absolutely amazing professor who makes sure her students are engaged in her lectures. Super funny and inspired me so much. The tests are not hard as long as you attend class, skim the text, and study a bit. I cannot wait to take her next class and highly recommend taking her!
really great lectures and always has a funny story about the concept material. the tests are really easy as long as you go to class and pay attention; doing the study guides helps as well. she drops your lowest test grade and 2 lowest assignments; offers lots of extra credit too. overall a really fun class
The tests were difficult. Textbook is free online. READ THE BOOK IT HAS QUESTIONS THAT ARE ON THE TEST THAT SHE WONT GO OVER IN CLASS. She also has extra credit. Drops one test score and 2 assignments.
Dr. C is an amazing professor! She is hilarious and really cares about all of her students. She gives out a lot of extra credit, so be sure to take advantage of that! I definitely want to take more classes with her in the future.
This class is so fun and very interesting. Its the only class I tried to make it to every day because I hated missing her lectures. One of the best professors ever.
I loved class with Dr. C! Her lectures were engaging and hilarious. She works really hard to make the material fun and easy to understand. As long as you attend class and read the textbook, it should be an easy A
I LOVE her!!!! She is my favorite professor in ASU! If you study for the test hard+ read the textbook+understand her examples in class+submit assignments on time, you SHOULD have an A+ or A. I have an A- because I missed the deadline for 2 assignments. There're 2-5 extra credits for each exam so try to get a full grade for exam:) Enjoy this class:)
Really Hilarious. I lecture to high school students now and I still use a few of her examples because they are effective, funny, and easy to remember. Talk to her! I didn't and I was depressed which is why I got the grade I did. She stays to talk to everyone after class if you have questions.
great all around, funny, holds your attention, and connects with students on a deeper level than most professors.
She is an amazing professor, she makes you actually want to attend class and learn. I would definitely recommend her. You do actually need to study in this class and read the textbook for the class, but I took her for Abnormal Psych and it was interesting topics so studying wasn't too bad. Her test are very fair and not too much homework either.
Dr. C is my favorite professor ever. Her class is so interesting! She gives real life examples from working with clients that ties back to everything we learned. She also ties these stories in with the tests. Her lectures are very entertaining and interesting to sit through so the mandatory participation isn't bad.
Favorite professor so far! She is excited to teach and knows how to engage students with humor. She's not stict and is just looking for general understanding. Uses fun activities to help students understand concepts and always reminds students about her office hours so you know you can always go get help.
I absolutely love Dr. C and can't wait to take another course with her. Truly the best prof you could have
Dr.C is the best professor I've ever had, took her for PSY101 and PSY366. Very understanding, tests are straight from the lectures so you need to show up to pass but her lectures are very entertaining and she makes it worth your while. Accessible outside of class, very caring, drops your lowest assignment grade and offers extra credit on tests!
One of my favorite professors ever. The lectures are very interesting and she makes you never want to miss class. She handled things well when classes were moved online. I did not need to study much for the tests other than listening to the lectures and got A's on them. There is usually one homework assignment per week and they don't take long.
Dr. C is probably the best professor at ASU. She cares about all of her students and you really get a good chance to learn material in her class. For me, it was the type of class where you're actually excited to read every chapter. 100% recommend for every person at ASU.
Amazing and funny professor. She really is so sweet! exams are mult. choice and final can replace lowest test score. Never used textbook and still passed exams, just make sure to pay attention in class. No phones or laptops can be used to take notes only the good old pen and paper
Dr. C is the best psych professor by FAR. She is also a practicing clinician, so she has so many stories that really help you understand the concepts. She really knows her stuff. There are 10 assignments but the lowest is dropped. Exams are tough but reasonable. The way she runs the class makes the work worth it, one of my fave college classes.
Hands down best professor and favorite class. Grades based on fairly easy assignments and 3 MC tests which are not too bad if you go to class, which you won't mind because she is entertaining and tells personal stories. Optional final replaces lowest test grade. Use office hours if you have questions about post-grad/career plans she's so helpful
She is an AMAZING professor. lots of extra credit, clear study guides, holds study groups before tests. i will definitely take another class with her
Dr. C often shares various stories, so not much material is covered in class. Lots of the material on exams is only covered in the textbook and not in lecture or the study guides. To do well on tests you must read the textbook and take notes on every small detail. Waste of time, more material should be covered in class or provide better test prep
Amazing professor! Her class is enjoyable even through zoom. You gotta read the textbook in order to do well on the tests. Lots of reading but the textbook is well written. Cavanaugh allows you to participate in research studies to earn up to 4% extra credit. Almost a half letter grade! Overall, pay attention and read the textbook!
I love her, the class, the assignments. I just performed poorly on the test (Not unusual for me), but hers were tough for everyone. She does not curve the tests either. HOWEVER, I was always engaged in class. I felt cared for. I learned so much. She mentored me through a lot of Grad school questions. Amazing woman. 11/10. highly reccomend.
Shes not my favorite professor but you can tell she loves her job & she has good lectures. The tests are pretty difficult for everyone, if you read the textbook you should be fine though. if youre looking for someone thats really passionate about psych i recommend her but not if youre looking for an easy A.
She means well, but her tests are so hard. She would give us study guides that go on for almost 20 pages when complete, and then less than half of it would be on the actual test. She does offer a LOT of extra credit which did help. She saw students were struggling and wanted to help us, which means a lot. It's just a hard class and her tests suck.
Even with online class, Dr.C offers a exciting energy to each and every class! Content covered in class is accompanied by videos and anecdotes to make information more memorable, which I appreciated a ton. I will say the tests are challenging and do require studying as she doesn't curve. Overall, the workload outside of the class isn't too much.
Dr. C was an amazing professor. She went through lectures in a way that made student engage and really learn the material. She had this energy that just uplifted the class and really made the morning that much better to go to her class. I would 10/10 recommend Dr. C to those looking to take Psych 101
Professor Cavanaugh is the best professor all you have to do is put in effort and you'll do really good in the class. There's a lot of quizlets of vocab words on quizlet that you can use to study. Once you memorize vocab and understand their context the tests are cake.
I took PSY101 with her in Fall 2019. One of my favorite professors, would have taken her again for Abnormal Psych if I didn't transfer out to USC. Lecture is fun and interesting and tests cover material on said lectures. Focus up, and you'll do just fine. Smart professor, and she CLEARLY knows her stuff. Prospective psychologists will LOVE her.
Dr. C is a funny and caring teacher however the tests in this class are very hard!! The study guide has NOTHING to do with the exams. There are 4 exams and they mostly determine your grade in class. However she does give a lot of extra credit to help our grade.
Everyone in psych should take Dr. C's abnormal psych course. She is my fav prof. You learn a lot and she tells super fascinating stories. I noticed some of her reviews say her tests are hard... but trust me they are not for psych, they are not super easy either but more than fair. You can also improve grade with participation points and extra cred
Love her! Lectures are always interesting, she does tell a lot of stories but it all relates to what we're learning. Textbook is required and hw/exams are based off both the text and lectures. You do have to put in some work but she makes the course fun and keeps the class engaged, always. Definitely recommend her to anyone who gets the chance!
Great class! As an L class, the written/ oral exams were manageable and the final project was an amazing experience. (group work, research, paper, presentation) Do not be scared of this class, really take it with stride! I learned so much and I am sad I won't be able to take more classes with her. She is inspiring, knowledgeable, and a gift.
She is AMAZING! Breaks down complex topics in ways for all her students to understand. She is very communicative, lectures are well prepared! She shares a lot of real-life experience working in the field and applies it to the content that week. Best professor for any type of psychology. TAKE HER if you can!
Dr. C is one of my all-time favorites at ASU. She's a very engaging, funny lecturer who is great at explaining harder concepts and relating the material to real-life stories. The tests are moderately difficult, but reasonable for a 300 level course. There were never trick questions, just pay attention in class and study your notes
Amazing professor - extremely nice, caring, and interesting lectures. Achievable A as long as you attend lectures, pay attention, and get the assignments done. Would 100% recommend taking Dr. C.
If you love psychology, this is your class. You learn SO much; however, it is a bit of a challenge regarding tests. You will need to study and work for an A but it is totally manageable, just not easy. She's really fun to talk to/ listen to. Totally recommend.
BEST PROFESSOR! Literally anyone can pass this class with good time and effort. Her lectures are very engaging and interesting. Her class is my fav. If people say differ that's just a lie and that's the honest truth. She has a very child like mind. I don't know how someone can dislike her class! Trust me and take her class!
dr.c is a great prof! the class is marked by 8 hw assignments (one is dropped & one you get to resubmit). three exams with chance to retake one (as opposed to taking the final). MUST get the textbook in order to complete online quizzes (and pass exams) but the book is easy to read and interesting. BEST psych prof at ASU hands down, best stories!
If you suck at taking tests: DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. It's just funny how anxiety was spoken about in depth within the class material, yet if you even make one wrong move on a proctored exam, you're screwed. Tests make up for your entire grade in this class so if you do bad on one, you can't recover. Toft is so nice and so knowledgeable though.
Amazing professor who really loves her job and her profession. Very intelligent, expresses ideas well, and incorporates stories to aid in the comprehension of content. One of my favorite professors so far.
Absolutely LOVED this professor and class! You have to go to lectures bc that's where the notes come from (she doesn't post them) but they're fun and entertaining. Offers extra credit for some things. Study for tests and do hw if you want to pass. Class isn't hard if you put in work, it helps if you're interested in psych. Overall, def recommend
She is by far my favorite teacher! Her lectures are so fun and exciting, I am never bored. Her test average is about 75, but if you really put in the work and study you will get a good grade. Do all the extra credit!
Dr. C is an amazing lecturer. I learned so much in this class and truly enjoyed going everyday. Three exams and an optional final to replace a grade. Somewhat difficult, but there's a study guide and if you study/go to lecture you will for sure pass. I couldn't recommend her more. Also, you definitely will need to read the textbook for this class.
Dr. C was one of the best professors I had this semester!! Her lectures were very engaging and interesting. Your grade relies heavily on the 4 main exams and mini assignments. She provides very in-depth study guides and offers a lot of extra credit opportunities. As long as you read the textbook and attend the lectures, you'll pass.
I loved Dr. C! She is an amazing teacher and knows her stuff. Her lectures are always enageing and her stories are great. You have to put in effort as there is a lot of info but nothing that isn't mangable. She is so sweet and one of my favorite professors I have had during my time at ASU.
Favorite professor at ASU. She is incredible and teaches in a way so that every student is engaged and understands the material. Her stories are hilarious and really add to the course. The stories are connected to the material so you have real world application. Shes THE BEST!
Professor Toft is an excellent professor who genuinely cares about the success of her students. She was an amazing introduction into the field of psychology and I look forward to taking more of her courses. The class consists of 4 tests (including the final which has the option between cumulative and single chapter). Pay attention and you'll dofine
Easiest class I've ever taken. Cavanaugh was an amazing professor, and her lectures were always entertaining. Very funny and passionate. Only one homework assignment due each week that never took more than an hour to complete. Tests were easy as long as you took good notes from the lectures, and final was optional. Class was straightforward. Easy A
If there's a bad review that is the student themselves! She is literally amazing and funny. Engaging & easy to comprehend! She literally has a lecture on how to do well in her class overall! As a freshman in college she made it less intimidating! Bad reviews always make you second guess the professor but trust me y'all! You get what you give!
I found myself frustrated by how disorganized the class was. Grading took upwards of 2+ weeks and final grades weren't available until the last minute. Due dates were moved around, grading was inconsistent between the professor, TAs, and grad student, and not a fan of the group project. 20% assignments, 60% essay "tests", and 20% group project.
Despite how challenging the material in this class can be, Dr. C was great. Go to class!!! I wish I had gone more, her lectures are awesome and the best way to prepare for the test honestly. The notes you take at lecture are almost everything covered on the test; that being said I would also read the textbook. Do the study guide for each test!!!
Does not allow electronic note-taking, but moves slow enough to write everything down. 9 HW assignments with lowest dropped. 3 exams + final. Has her own practice so she knows what she's talking about, very respected. Lectures for whole class. Use the study guides!! Didn't use TB much except for online assignments + extra info but it is required.
She was so nice and genuinely cared about all of her students. Always offered many resources and help for the class and just life in general. Her lectures were always funny and engaging.
Material consists of lectures, learning assignments based on the textbook, and assignments where you write APA papers based on content given each week. Pay very close attention to things on PPTs, as they matter more on the quizzes. Still use the book, but try to take notes based on what's talked about in class.
Dr. C is a great professor! This class has homework, textbook assignments, 3 tests and a final. If you want a good grade on the tests, go to class! A lot of the test material comes from her lectures and she is really good at using stories from her work to go along with the concepts. Expectations are clear, grading is concise, overall great class!
Very enthusiastic and showed she loved the subject and teaching. Always answers questions and available.
Dr. C (or should I say Dr. Slay), truly was amazing. She obviously loves her job and teaching and truly cares about her students. It is very important to go to class (or make friends) because all the exams have a lot to do about what is talked about in class. It is easy to get notes from other people, but try to go. Listen to her. She is awesome
I love Dr. C! At first I was not sure what to expect, but I learned SO much and really enjoyed coming to class. She has clinical experience so it makes her lectures interesting because of the stories she involves. She is funny, and sweet, and predictable. I thought her tests were easy if you filled the study guide and the homework wasn't bad.
Attendance isn't mandatory but if you want to do good on the tests I would 100% recommend going to classes. Take advantage of the study guides and try studying with someone else for the tests both of which were really helpful.
She was a very entertaining teacher that made funny examples that stuck. There are 4 exams with an optional final to replace a missing or low exam. She provides study guides and "study jams" with a recording of it. There is an online textbook that she follows so make sure to take notes on them as well along with her lectures.
She is good at giving examples which is the best reason to go to class. The examples helped me understand the concepts better, plus the slides are not posted online, so if you want notes, you have to show up. She and her TAs are accessible outside of class if you need help!
She's funny but I feel she goes off topic a lot. We would be on one slide for like 20 minutes or we wouldn't finish lecture until like two days before the test. The homework assignments were easy but the test itself is what kicked a lot of people's butt. It wasn't open note and it's experience-based questions which is difficult to comprehend.
One of the favorite professors I've taken. I took the Abnormal Psych class. There are 4 exams and lots of assignments that are free points. For the exams, you really just need to use Quizlets that others students made based off of the study guides and review your notes. I never read the textbooks except to look up study guide questions.
Her lectures are amazing and attending every lectures will help a lot because the examples she gives will help you on exams a lot, which is the majority of your grade. Definitely read your textbook and fill out the study guides provided. I failed the first exam but managed to drag my grade up to a 95 simply by actually studying for the other exams
She is the BEST!!!!
Dr. C is one of the best professors I've had. Her lectures are easy to follow along and she makes them super fun and engaging. Even though attendance isn't required, going to every lecture really helps understanding some concepts. Her tests are pretty easy and fun. I definitely recommend taking her class.
Dr. C is an amazing professor, she really gets engaged in her lectures and makes it actually enjoyable to learn. I have taken her psy 101 and psy 366 classes and would take any other class that she teaches.
I love Dr. Cavanaugh-Toft. This is my second class with her, and she is the reason I took the class. She explains everything well and with a cool perspective since she is a practicing clinician. This class has a final group project, but she tries not to make it horrible.
Great class and great professor. Only problem is test are 60% of grade. 3 test. All are 50 questions and on paper with a bubble scan tron.
Dr.C had the most interesting lectures I have attended throughout college to date. She worked for many years in the field as a clinical psychologist and has so many great stories that really help connect the material to the real world. She welcomes questions no matter how "out of pocket" they may seem, and she seems to always know the answer. 10/10
I took her for my freshman year psych class and I loved her, She was very clear with grading, the only thing is that there are 5 test that are worth 60% of your grade, but she does drop the lower one, if your grade is good enough the finial is also optional
She was amazing! Even though attendance was not mandatory it was still very important to go because she does not post the lecture slides. She gives great examples during class to help explain. She was super fun and caring. Test are super important because they are what make up your grade so it is important to study.
I have so much respect for Dr. C, and I can't recommend her class enough. If you have genuine interest and are willing to earn your grade, you will pass. Lectures are engaging and she clearly has interest in the topics. She provides resources to support her students in learning. Go to class, buy the skeleton notes, and use the study guides.
Dr. C is awesome!! Her lectures are very entertaining, she's easily accessible outside of class, and responds really quickly to emails.
Dr. C is responsive and efficient. To do well, study hard since notes aren't allowed on exams the exams will cover 3 chapters each. Fail a test? There's an optional final that will replace your lowest scores. Attend SI sessions, teach others the material, relate the concepts taught in class to real life, and ask questions to her or her TA's.
Professor Toft was a fantastic professor! The course material is fascinating, and she makes the lectures intriguing and exciting. However, make sure you study for the exams, as I learned the hard way with my first exam. She gives out plenty of extra credit opportunities. Along with that, she and her TAs are always accessible if you need help.
Dr. C was my favorite professor so far at ASU. Not only is she an incredible teacher, she cares about her students so much, and is willing to work with you. Her lectures are engaging and she has endless stories that are equally funny as they are impactful. Her exams are easy if you listen to lectures and do the outside work. Take Dr. C for PSY 101!
TAKE THIS CLASS. Freshman here, this is by far my favorite course. There are 4 tests and an optional final, a study guide is posted, make sure you know your stuff, and do the extra credit. Every other week, there are questions based off of the textbook (unlimited tries) that go along with the content. Absolutely loved Dr. C and this class!
I really enjoyed Prof. Toft. She is a really amazing teacher and uses lots of examples that help you understand the topic. I recommend reading the textbook and going to class as there are questions from both on exams. Lots of extra credit opportunities. She really cares about her students.
Toft made all material fun to learn about and easy to understand. She brought a lot of joy into the classroom and always found a way to make us laugh or smile. She is extremely passionate, knowledgeable, and respected in her field. The class will be easy to pass as long as you pay attention during lectures. If you get a chance, TAKE HER!!
Dr. C is amazing. I was not fully committed to the class; I wish I had because I would have enjoyed it more. She is an amazing lecturer, she knows how to keep the class engaged. She has unique assignments that dive into psychological disorders and historical law/psych cases that happened in the US. Take her classes, you will be glad you did!
I really loved this class and this professor! There is quite a bit of reading and I do think you need to show up to the lectures, but the class isn't too hard if you just do the reading and take notes on the lectures. The final is optional as only four exams count toward your grade (the final is the fifth exam and so one test grade is dropped).
Dr. C is educated, kind, and funny. Her lectures and the class were super interesting because she had many stories about her experience in the field that related to the class content. However, class is hard and the tests are hard to prepare for.
TAKE THIS CLASS! Not only is it interesting, but you get to learn a lot! Dr. C's lectures are fun with stories and examples that make learning easier. Take notes while listening to lectures! Study guides are representative of tests(make sure to read over sections on textbook). Personally, the tests were easy for me. Best class I've taken.
Dr. C kept all of the lectures highly entertaining. You will not pass if you do not attend the lectures. The coursework was pretty manageable, but the tests are quite difficult to study for and are 60% of your grade. If you do poorly or miss one, you can take the optional cumulative final, but man, this class is not for the feint of heart.
Dr. C is amazing! Her lectures are so engaging that I never felt bored. However, please read the textbook and attend all lectures or you won't pass. Tests are not easy. If you want some in-depth learning of abnormal psych, take her if you can! If you just want an easy A, then she's not for you. Overall it's a great class!
Four tests but the lowest grade is dropped. Weekly textbook assignments from an online textbook. There are study guides for each test, and they are really good. I LOVE Dr. C she is the funniest professor on campus. She tells the best stories that help understand the context. I recommend her to everyone. MUST TAKE
Dr. C makes this abnormal psych class really engaging with her entertaining lectures and helpful study guides. The tests are challenging, but using unstuckstudy AI and the textbook can make prep a breeze. Highly recommend for an in-depth look at abnormal psychology.
I took her for psych 101 and she is by far one of the most amazing professors I have had. Attendance isn't mandatory, she doesn't take attendance. Her lectures are very interesting and she is very funny. The test for me were difficult. She drops a study guide pretty early for test.Overall, she is an AMAZING teacher and you need to take her.
Dr. C is awesome! She makes sure we are on top of everything by reminding us, and cares about our feedback. Her work is easy if you pay attention,w which shouldn't be hard to do because her lectures are great and entertaining. She's charismatic, energetic, silly, professional, and kind! I would definitely take her class again! 11/10!
lecture heavy but made them interesting and always told plenty of jokes to keep you engaged. she made it fun to come to class and I loved the skeleton notes she provided because it made paying attention to what she was saying so much easier.
Dr. C is a great professor, her way of teaching is extremely effective and her lectures were fun to attend! Attendance is important (things she says in class are on the test sometimes) but the work and assignments were very light and easy. Absolutely recommend!
Dr. C has to be one of the best professors I've ever had at ASU, and I'm not even joking! Her lectures were amazing, and she added a lot of personal experiences she went through, which made the material more memorable. Attendance is required; if you don't come to class, you'll miss the notes. Exams are easy so long as you study!
I loved Dr. C! Her skeleton notes were super helpful and she made lectures fun and engaging. Some concepts are a little difficult to understand but her TA's are super helpful and as long as you study everything on the study guide she posts you'll do good on the tests. She also gives a lot of extra credit throughout the semester.
Lectures were very entertaining. Such a great professor. First test was the hardest. A lot of TA's and many resources to help with the class. Take every extra credit opportunity bc it will be worth it at the end of the semester.
I love Professor C! She is hilarious and always keeps my attention in class, even if I have a short attention span. She drops your worst exam if you do the final, and there are multiple extra points you can get. If you can take her- DO IT! She's the best!
I think about her lectures daily, to be honest, very memorable teacher and I can't wait to take her classes again. Lectures are more important than what's in the textbook, very passable class if you put in the effort.
Dr. C is one of the best professors I have ever had! She is super funny, has great anecdotes for the lessons and keeps all students engaged in the material! As long as you complete the study guides, the tests are a breeze. She has paper notes and prohibits tech, but honestly, I found it to be even more engaging! I LOVED her class and lectures!
Dr. C is awesome!!! She really cares about her students and makes her lectures enjoyable. She is also hilarious. This course isn't too hard however to do well on the tests you MUST make time to study or you won't do well.
Dr. C is the best professor I've had so far. Her lectures are engaging and fun, her assignments are relevant and interesting, and it was overall a really great class to take.
I LOVE Dr. C, she was super engaging during lectures and the HW assignments were interesting as well. She has some stories she adds to her lectures, which helps you understand the concept to a situation.
Dr. C is one of the best professors I have ever taken! She made lectures so interesting and engaging, she really knows how to teach. Attendance is not required but you should come to every class because lectures and her examples really help you learn the material. There are 3 big tests that are pretty hard but if you study, you'll be good :)
I love Dr.C and her classes! Attendance is not mandatory but I highly recommend showing up because the stories are really helpful for remembering all the concepts (and the notes matter for the exams as well). The assignments are all fairly easy and not too time consuming. The book is necessary for the class.
Dr.C is super chill. there are 3 tests and if you take the final (optional) she drops your lowest test score. She gives you the opportunity to redo one assignment for full credit and she also drops your lowest assignment grade. Her tests are pretty easy, just show up to class and read the textbook because things discussed in there will be on tests
Honestly, I am so glad that she was my teacher for my major, because it really did make me excited for my future in this department! Tips for future students: ATTEND THE STUDY SESSIONS! They're so good. Also, study at least a week in advance of your tests. And GO TO LECTURES!!! You will NOT regret it!
Dr. C is honestly an amazing professor. I was in the 9 am class, so we were mostly always tired, but her being energetic when lecturing got the class learning. She wishes for the success of her students, so she knows when we're struggling based on test scores. Her tests aren't THAT difficult, but I do recommend you study!!
Dr. Cavanaugh always made class so entertaining. I missed class a bit, but everytime I went, I remembered that information much better than anything else I studied. Pay attention to what she has to say, she knows what she is talking about and wants the best for her students. This is not a hard class and as long as you do your work you will be fine.
Dr. C is insanely strategic in her teaching style. She uses hilarious/outlandish anecdotes for each disorder to aid our memorization. Reading the textbook is a waste of time so don't do it -- just go to lecture, review your notes, and use the study guide. I drew cartoons of her stories in my notes and it carried my recall while taking the tests.
Yes, she's good. Where she isn't great is academic dishonesty. I've been a straight-A student all my life, and she accused me of cheating on an exam, and I got a zero. Still got an A+ in this class but now i have to speak to the dean and its a huge headache. Don't get on her bad side because shes very stubborn and theres no convincing her otherwise
Dr C was an awesome teacher. I hardly went to class, but every time I did go it made me wish I went more often. She is so funny and you can tell she knows and enjoys what she's teaching. She really cares about her students and truly wants everyone to do good. Tests and assignments aren't too difficult. Mostly do the work and you'll be fine.
