She knows her stuff to begin with and definitely knows how to teach. I learned so much from her and she made math concepts simpler. It's a tough class, however.Alot of studying but if your a math person then you will be fine. It must have been hard for me because I dislike math. Overall, if you are up for alot of homework and studying, takethis clas
Even though she comes off as a hard... well you know, she really is a fun person! More than that she was super willing to talk to students if they didn't get what was being taught and had open office hours! Don't let her bite fool you, she really is a cool person and easy to understand.
She is a disrespectful person to eldary, very modey, never uses the textbook, gets stuck very easy. If you are planing to take a class with her, do not. You are not going to get an A or even a B, but you can dream about the C-
Thought the class would be easy A, but i was wrong. You have to actually study every night and do the Test review homework. If you're a lazy student who's average at math, expect a low grade. You're going to have to work hard to earn that A. Prepare to fail the first exam. Half the kids drop the Math class due to how hard it was.
She is great. Very helpful. Some people had a problem with her, but I definitely didn't. She's very clear, and if you actually study, you'll do fine. I hate math, Ive always had a problem with it, but doing the homework got me through. She is always available when you need her and really knows what she's talking about. Also, she's so cute!
She is a very difficult teacher! She is willing to help, however her exams are nothing like the homework or examples used in class. I am very good in math, but had to withdraw from her class. She is very rude. DO NOT TAKE HER!
She is a very difficult teacher! She is willing to help, however her exams are nothing like the homework or examples used in class. I am very good in math, but had to withdraw from her class. She is very rude and doesn't use the book. You gotta look at her butt while she teaches! DO NOT TAKE HER!
She is a very difficult teacher! She is willing to help, however her exams are nothing like the homework or examples used in class. I am very good in math, but had to withdraw from her class. She is very rude and doesn't use the book. She has no patience if you don't understand a concept. DO NOT TAKE HER!
She's pretty hard. She will go over how to do the easy problems, but during the quizes or exams, she puts problems that you have never seen before and have to figure it out on the spot. This class is only for smart people who likes math, and if you suck at math, don't even bother taking her class.
She treated my class like we were babies. She singled us out and when we answered questions right, they weren't to her standards and what she wanted. She makes it seem like if you don't know what she is talking about, you will never get it and theres no point in you being in this class. Don't take this class!
Honest intentions but poor execution, we are adults but we are also students that need more direction & push. She could do more to teach problems similar to quizzes/exams. At times she'd get lost or make errors in lectures, if the teacher isn't confident how will we be confident? Teachers are meant to inspire & excite, she does bare minimum. Dntake
Carolyn Hochstadt is the best teacher I have had at WSU. She is easy to understand, giving great examples in class; which allows you to do well on quizzes and tests. It is a lot of work, but She is willing to help. Go to Her office hrs. she lets you stay longer than the time allotted to make sure you understand the math. she is also really cute.
Singles you out and quizzes/tests are nothing like the examples she gives in class. Had to drop the class.
The class is really really hard and the final is not like any of the previous finals posted online!!!! Carolyn is an OK teacher, she's very helpful but tends to mess up a lot in class. She totally has the hipster look and she's really cute though
I took pre-calc with Carolyn and she was great! She helped prepare us for the final by giving final-like questions on our homework assignments. She showed us a lot of little helpful tricks too. What I really liked was how good she was at room control, e.g. no cell phones. God really mixed beauty and brilliance with Carolyn. Take it with her!
I definitely regret taking this course with her. She made it way harder than it needed to be. The syllabus doesn't mean much as she just tossed an exam at the end because we didn't have time (due partly to the fact that she is very unorganized and shuffling through teaching four courses) Homework and exams are returned a week later if we're lucky
Tests are tougher than the examples and hw she gives. Her grading is inconsistent from test to test. Things get past back late, lucky if it's before an exam. Exams take almost the entire time if you rush. I compared to with a couple students from a different section and they said easiest class, while our entire class was struggling to pass.
She expects a lot out of her students, and for the most part she prepares you for the exams. She grades hard (very little partial credit) and she gave a quiz every week, which helped prepare you for more advanced math classes.
Probably one of the best instructors I've had and the one most invested in seeing that students learned the material.
great teacher had her for winter 2015 only complaints: she takes way too long to grade exams, and gives late people too much attention, she will stare u down for being late and she disrupts her own class more than late ppl do. she has rude remarks. good teacher teaches amazing normal workload. do hw and u will pass.
DO NOT TAKE. Everyone says statistics is an easy A. HA! Not with her. You can't ask her anything without her making you feel like you're an idiot that should already know the material. Her quizzes and exams are much harder than what she teaches in class. THANKS! I definitely have to retake this class. Very hard teacher; I do NOT recommend.
THE ABSOLUTE WORST PROF AT WAYNE STATE. I DON'T GET HOW SHE IS ALLOWED TO TEACH! SHE IS SO RUDE AND DON'T ASK QUESTIONS BECAUSE SHE DOESN'T LIKE THOSE!
I don't understand why she has terrible reviews? She's not rude by any means, she's more socially awkward and I think it comes off as rude. Just go to class and LISTEN. The class was not hard by any means and she was available if you needed help with anything. I had no problem with her.
I don't like the way she teaches at all. If someone is confused she will explain it again and again the same way and that won't help the person. She cares for how punctual you are, and like said in a comment before she gives you a bad look if you are late. Makes it more more difficult than it should be. She is just not that good....
I'm going to put this in simple terms for anyone out there reading this: Avoid taking this professor at all costs. Even if it means graduating late. Simple as that. She makes one of the easiest introductory classes as difficult as calc II, not to mention all of her personality issues. This person should not be teaching period.
This professor truly cares about her students and does not want them to fail. I don't get why people rate her so horribly. She is one of the best math teachers I have ever had. the only way she is rude is if you give her a reason to be. Take her - she prepares you well for the departmental final exam. I liked her so much I'm taking her for calc I
This class is honestly one of the harder mathematics classes because of the content and difficulty to teach. Ms. Hochstadt, helped me a lot when I went to her office hours. If you are confused with a concept go to the MRC, Academic Success Center or ask a friend. Check your homework because she will mark points off for wrong answers/work.
I would advise against taking her unless you are really good in math. She only provides feedback if you go and talk to her but even at that instance it isn't really helpful. All in all she is not one of WSU's best and she really doesn't work with you. If you have her in the future, may the odds be ever in your favor.
MAT 1800 and 2010 have been the most difficult classes I've taken at Wayne State. That said, Hochstadt is way better than my last 1800 professor. If you want a teacher who speaks (English) clearly and goes through all of the material thoroughly, I would suggest her.
Very tough grader and questions in the exam come out of her lecture.
Makes you work for your grade. She is ready to explain same thing 1000 times if you didnt understand. Must take her. She is a gem.
She rolls her eyes when you ask her questions and she treats you like you are dumb when you do not understand something. Her attitude is very negative and she assumes you already know what she is meant to be teaching. There are weekly quizzes and exams every few weeks. You will have online homework pretty much every day, and one hand in HW weekly.
What ever you do DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. She's very strict with grading and I guarantee you will fail this class. Does not curve grades and rarely give extra credit. Instead of testing you on stuff you went over in class, she'll put hard questions on quizzes and exams and takes off points for small things, even if you got the answer.
I'm currently taking this professor and this is the only class I've ever had in which MAJORITY of the class is failing. Do yourself a favor and don't take this professor. Very hard grader, takes points off if you make small mistakes despite showing work and having the correct answer. Even if you work hard, you'll most likely get a C.
whatever you do, don't take this prof. Simple as that. If you can't find anyone and she's your only option, DON'T TAKE IT THAT SEMESTER. She makes the easiest introductory classes harder than my Calc 2 and Orgo Class! I hate her, and this class. She is going to ruin my GPA. No matter how hard you try, you won't pass. We're all failing in my section
She is the worst thing to happen to Wayne State. Who would hire her? She's having a midlife crisis and taking out her anger on her students! Don't take her if you actually want to learn and pass.
Don't do it
Don't recommend this professor. I hate the fact that she gives quizzes at the end of class rather than beginning where the content is fresh in your head after you've studied. Then you are rushed to finish the quiz and will most likely make mistakes and get a bad grade. The class is not that hard but she's a tough grader
Please do not take this class if you want to pass with an A Her lectures seem easy but once it comes down to quizzes and exams, good luck She takes many points off for the smallest things even though u have the right answer. She made an elementary stats class much harder than it should be. Drop the class if you have her PLEASE I AM TRYING TO SAVE U
She is a very hard teacher. You will get marked off for the little things, so beware. She makes a basic elementary statistics class seem like it is the hardest thing ever. You have to study all day and all night to get at least a B in her class.
A tough grader and this class is very hard but she was an amazing teacher, she really knows how to teach. Would definitely take her again.
She is pretty strict for most people. She is very tedious about little thing, but if you do everything exactly as she says you'll get a good grade in the class. Overall, I really appreciated her as a teacher because of her teaching style. She fully explains everything, gives you tips in your notes and preps you for the exam so you can pass!
She definitely does a good job explaining all of the material, but can go over it rather fast. However, she will stay after class to further explain or answer any questions. She's sarcastic, funny, and is one of those professors who wants you to do good, but it's a tough class. Show up to class, ask questions, do homework and you'll be fine.
save yourself & avoid her at all costs. first, she's outrageously rude, takes out her midlife crisis on students. second, she tries her hardest to make basic math extremely complicated, and third, grades homework, tests, and quizzes as if her soul purpose in life is crushing GPA's! good luck if you're already stuck with her! you're in my prayers!!
Carolyn, is rude. All she does is write full sentences on the board and very little number of examples. She is a very tough grader when it comes to homework, quizzes and tests. She doesn't do a great job on explaining concepts and the math. She dresses unprofessionally, she seems nice but is actually rude. I would AVOID HER at all costs.
takes half points off for a small mistake even though thought process and answer is correct. Problems on tests and quizzes were never talked about. In her exam reviews she includes over 100 problems to work on. Need to spend hours studying because you have no idea what will be on the exam. Unprofessional, rude, gets mad when students ask questions
Her classes are tough if you don't have the basic concepts before taking her class. She makes students do more examples rather than explaining how to actually do the math. She moves too fast and it's hard to catch on with her. Moreover, the quizzes are not that difficult but confusing. She wants every steps to be shown which is time consuming.
Carolyn is THE WORST math instructor. She is absolutely rude and very difficult. Her tests are hard... don't get me started on how she lectures!! She just writes sentences upon sentences with minimal examples. She dresses unprofessionally... She should just get fired
35 on ACT, calc from HS. A struggle over tiny things makes it annoying. Other prof's give EC/take home tests. She writes full sentences on the board. No warning posting online HW(all over the place)- you can do well, but w/ a small margin of error. Point being, other prof's make it easier- she doesn't. Don't add unnecessary struggle for no reason.
The worst professor of any institute that was and ever will be in the history of the universe. Do yourself a favor and do not allow her to instruct you. If you do. good luck
Hardest math teacher ever. Avoid at all costs. Extremely rude when you ask questions, she gives attitude for no reason. Quizzes and exams are hard. Gives no room for mistake. She takes off major points for minor mistakes.
homework, quizzes and test are 10x harder than what we learn in class. She's very disrespectful and makes students feel stupid and irrelevant. She doesn't care about her students and will laugh at "stupid" questions.
She's fine. Not a terribly tough subject, so just ask questions when you have them, and do the homework. Gotta say tho, she was hot.
ms. h was by far THE most difficult professor i have ever taken. all semester i was failing, and somehow managed to pass the class. until the last drop date of the semester, my class had about 30 people, after the drop date, there was only 15 of us left. everyone was failing the class except for one person. very picky when it comes to exam grading.
Do not take Calc with her! Her notes made barely any sense, and were so long, it felt like I was writing an essay. Tests were difficult and did not prepare us for the final. If you mess up there's no room to make up for it.
The professor provides no feedback and rushes through all topics. You would not be able to understand material in her class also grading is impossible. Everything is graded to the last inch and she marks heavy points off.
Takes off an extreme amount of points for minor infractions, is rude to the class, and is completely taken aback when students ask questions, then gives them attitude for doing so. This does not an effective teacher make. Take Calculus from ANY other instructor. I would actively advocate for her dismissal.
She is not open to questions and when one is asked she makes students feel dumb and does not know how to explain material other than how the book states the information. She reads from slides and takes unnecessary points off from exams. She also reads from a powerpoint she does not make. The class is unenjoyable and she hates talking and phones.
This class is horrible. Do not take this class with this prof. I had to withdraw from the class midway through the semester to save my GPA. She reads lectures word for word off the slide and gets annoyed when questions are asked. The exams are harshly graded, if you don't show every piece of work or don't do it her way, you don't pass. Good luck.
every day while driving to this class I didn't wear my seatbelt because the fantasy of flying out of my car was greater than attending this class. the hardest grader I've ever had worse than engineering profs. and if you so much as ask a question you'll be demeaned in front of the whole class.
Avoid this professor at all costs. She reads her power points word-for-word and will not explain the material if students are confused. She will embarrass and demean you if you ask questions, she will even avoid answering questions. She is sarcastic and rude. Her exams are tough and her grading is strict. I had to withdraw to save my GPA.
take this class with any other professor, she reads directly off of the slides, if you are interested in teaching yourself a whole stats course, then take this class! otherwise, professor is little to no help.
She will never give you break or even a chance to succeed! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HER. I am an "A" student and currently have a C-. she Is so rude and disrespectful.
Carolyn is the rudest and most disrespectful professor you will ever take. She does not care about her students nor their success. In class, she asks if we have questions, and when we do she laughs. Exams are ridiculously graded, and everyone is failing or barely passing. Not to mention that over half of the class dropped out. Do NOT take her.
Shes rude, doesnt answer questions and just tells you that we dont have time for them, constantly lectures no review or anything, not available outside or inside lecture, take this class and its almost impossible to pass.
her overall rating at 2.4 is far too high, I dont know why she teaches or why the university lets her do so, does not care about students in the slightest bit
Don't do it. Drop the course. Wait until the next semester. Go to a different college. Just don't take this course with her. She is rude, not helpful, not caring, and overall just a horrible prof. Her tests are hard and she grades even harder. Take my advice, don't ruin your GPA or potential to get into your program, DON'T DO IT.
The worst teacher in the world. She makes you feel so stupid if you ask a question. If you go out to the bathroom she says shes taking away your participation points when you come back. Her tests are hard for no reason. She is incredibly rude and takes this class way too seriously. Do your self a favor dont even think about taking a class with her.
I dont know if i can call her "a teacher". She is so rude and she will never respect her students. Please try to take the class with another professor and take my advice. Dont waste your time, you wont learn anything. without her notes she is lost. She doesnt know the material and expects the students to know more then her. Very hard grader.
Graded very harshly and unfairly on the exams. She told me near the end of the semester that if I did everything and studied then I would pass. She failed me by 1 percent and wouldn't let me do anything to raise it up. I told her I did everything, and I would appreciate one assignment to bring it up. She was very rude. Would not recommend taking.
Awful class and generally awful instructor. She is very rude to her students, scoffing and smirking at them for asking questions. The exams were much, much harder than any of the homework we did, and she doesnt assign due dates for the material ahead of time. Take this class with a different professor and thank me later.
The worst teacher I have ever had. She is very rude and not willing to help students at all. If you ask a question she will make you feel dumb for asking. Once a student asked her a question and her response was "cuz" . . . no joke. If you take this class be prepared to get a tutor. IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST TIME TAKING STATS DONT TAKE HER!
If you want to have as good of an experience taking calculus 2 as possible, do not take her class
Extremely tough on grading exams. Exams are what make up bulk of your grade. You can have a clear understanding of material and still fail exams. She does not even make clear as to exact specifics she wants on some exam questions, as they can be interpreted different ways and she just assumes you should understand her way even though not clear.
DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS WITH THIS PROF. I'm normally an A student and took AP stats (which is about 3x as hard as this class). I didn't do as well as I had hoped on the AP stats exam but expected to do fine and ignored the warnings from other students. *big* mistake. her lectures are terrible and is lowkey mean.
Once read a comment that said it's better to take an extra year than it is to take her class and I just dismissed it, really wish I hadn't. The class wasn't that hard, I understood what was being taught but her exams were different than her notes and she refused to help with extra practice problems. You really couldn't find someone who cares less.
Carolyn explains the content thoroughly, but she is very rude to her students and grades very unfairly. So far one of the worst professors I've had.
Ms H is a thorough lecturer (although she does read exactly from a sheet of paper) but she is an EXTREMELY tough grader. I did well on hand in homeworks and quizzes but would nearly fail the exams. She doesn't make our overall grade available online either and is slightly rude. Just don't take her. She makes things unnecessarily difficult.
Very disrespectful and mean. When you ask a question, she laughs as if it is a joke or as if you should know the answer. I took her for STAT1020. Even if you know the material, you will not pass. Worst teacher at Wayne State! She is an extremely touch grader. I'm not sure why she was even hired. No one passed in my class.
Only uses powerpoints to teach, she does not even lecture. She takes forever to grade homework. Get ready to teach yourself
Be prepared to teach the whole semester to yourself. She locks your grades so you have to calculate them by yourself. She grades very slowly but mostly for completion. Three exams worth 45% of your grade and final worth 25% very heavy. Do not recommend her.
You basically have to teach yourself the information. She doesn't know how to communicate very well which caused a lot of unneeded stress. She was also rude to people in the class when they asked questions. Overall I would avoid taking her class if possible.
For the love of all things good do not take this class. I failed it a few years back, took it again this year with another prof. and got the highest score on the final and an A in the class. Worst class I've taken in my 5 years at this school and I'm a heavy science major so there's been plenty of those.
for the love of god do NOT take a class that she is teaching. I saw all the reviews she was given and still decided to take her class and lemme tell you she is as awful as everyone says. She doesnt teach. If you take a course with her be prepared to learn difficult material on your own. AWFUL AND RUDE.
Wish I had waited to take this class with a better professor. EXTREMELY rude and doesn't respond to emails either unless you call her out. Also treats class time like office hours but makes them mandatory which is ridiculous. Class is test heavy as well, there's lots of homework but weekly tests and quizzes are where your grades come from
Do not even think about taking her.
She's not an awful teacher but if she's an extremely tough grader. Make sure to ask her questions and participate in class to get on her good side.
The amount of homework is a lot and the fact that you dont get credit on written homework or exams if you dont solve the problem using her method ONLY is ridiculous. Her class is super hard.
I have never ever had a class like this. Horrible, made my first year of college the worst and made me lose money and made other students lose scholarships/sports. Unhelpful, rude, clearly does not care. Lots of homework where you quite literally are not being taught to do. She expects you to teach yourself but if you dont do it "her way", you fail
She asks the students to do the homework in her way, and that's the only way to earn credit for this class, but when students need help with the work, she kind of ignores, making a lot of us struggle to pass. Do not take her even if she's the last choice.
Her favorite word is "note". You basically watch her youtube videos of her teaching and look at the PowerPoint is your best method of learning anything. She doesn't teach much in class, it mostly questions about the topic and then in-class homework.
I think Professor Hochstadt is getting a bad rap. She is very no nonsense, which I appreciate, but she is available to help you understand any material you're struggling with. I took the hybrid course which was great because lectures were prerecorded (its nice when you can pause while taking notes) and in she would work out problems with us. 10/10
Very hard to get ahold of. Grades very hard. Doesnt test in what she teaches.
I understand why people give her bad reviews, she comes off as a major B. But if you're generally good at math and you don't plan on missing class, you'll be fine. She does go fast and seems annoyed by questions, but I will probably take her again. Maybe I have a soft spot for post-emo millennials because I am one too.
worst professor in my life. if i ever catch her on campus we can square up
Professor Hochstadt does a good job teaching the content, but can be unclear when setting expectations for exams. Her reverse classroom style worked well, however, she was strict about attendance. She cancelled class multiple times, but took points off of my participation grade for missing one time during the entire semester.
I personally think she is a nice prof. Maybe because she's a little emo and I suit with it well. Class setting was fine. Attendance is required. However she's kinda easy when grading weekly hand-in works.
Doesn't teach, doesn't say what is on the exams. The hand-in and online homework aren't bad, but they don't help you prepare for the exams. Do not take her at all, sadly she is the only teacher that teaches STAT1020 as I'm writing this.
SHE IS THE WORST TEACHER EVER!!!! Never had a B in math throughout my entire education. Would not recommend taken her if you want to pass the class. Literally went straight into lecture and didnt even introduce the lecture properly not to mention she will pick on even the smallest details just to lower points during the test.
She doesn't give homework based on what she teaches, reads off of Powerpoints because she can't explain things herself, doesn't let you use note-taking apps on your phone, and feels more like a substitute teacher than an actual professor. If you wanna pass statistics, do not take her class.
I had more freedom in highschool than I do in her class. No phones, no talking, no eating, no music, and absolutely no missing class, which I find ironic seeing as she does 0 lecturing and just posts youtube videos onto canvas. I had a question for her and she had absolutely no clue what the answer was. I would prefer a real professor.
very rude, goes way to fast, and sounds annoyed when answering any questions. Honestly don't know why Wayne state hasn't fired her yet, everyone in the class feels the same way. It's like they don't care about our education. I don't know why she would be a teacher if she doesn't like people, this is our futures.
I found that Calc II is easier than this introductory stats class. Ms. H is extremely rude, difficult to get a hold of outside of class, and does not offer clear grading criteria. If you look up "extra" in the dictionary her face will pop up. Please save your mental health and do not take this class.
Save yourself by not taking her class. She can't lecture and doesn't help the students at all. There is absolutely no way you can even try passing this class without wanting to scream and cry for every single second of it.
Save yourself don't take her. EXAMS are sooo hard and there's literally no way of passing.
I don't think shes bad. She didn't teach lectures so going to class was strictly to work on your assignment & ask her questions if you need to. It was cool, gave me time to get my work done without being bothered. 1 quiz, 1 Worksheet and 1 lab every week. Wasn't hard at all. 3 exams & a final project. Exams matched exactly what was given to study.
Every time I drive to campus I unbuckle my seat belt just in case I crash before getting to her class.
She grades way to harsh for a teacher that doesnt even teach. We just watch lecture videos and do the assignments. On her assignments she sometimes asks questions that are hard to answer because they dont correlate with what was shown in the lecture video. She treats the class like its high school. No phones & no headphones.
If you're generally not good at math, don't take her class. Even if you are good at math, don't take her. Instead of fully explaining a concept, she'll just read off the slides. She doesn't give you access to your grade on canvas. Exams are extremely difficult. Makes an ELEMENTARY stats class hard to pass. Her class will make you cry. DONT take it.
I would not recommend taking this class with her as your professor. Despite having to teach myself, I think I passed. I believe she has a good understanding of the material, but she acts as though we should know it already. She does not post grades and expects you to calculate it yourself. So, you have no way of knowing if you passed the class.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER!!! I swear on everything. she is very rude, very hard to talk to, doesn't teach, and doesn't understand her own material. All she does is sit in the corner sipping her coke bottle and give us a vid to watch from another professor that actually teaches and doesn't allow headphones. You'll regret taking her fr, 100% not worth it.
Would not recommend
I took her for an online course before and thought she was fine, until I took her in person. I have to drop her for the good of my mental health. She taught nothing and got an attitude if whoever asked her any questions.
Honestly, do not take a class with her. She does not care about you or your education. She is very unapproachable and will make fun of students in front of the class. She knit picks your answers to take off as many points as possible. It seems like she just wants her students to suffer and be confused or she doesn't care. RUN.
Honestly this person should not be a teacher. They are probably one of the rudest professors I have ever met. They constantly harp about asking them for help, but they are the most unapproachable person on planet earth. They put down students who answer wrong in class, throw lectures they don't teach at you, and show up hungover to their lectures.
Ok, she's not the worse prof out there and her lectures are bad, but if you teach yourself, this class is doable. DO THE HOMEWORK, it's half your grade and helps so much on her exams. Also, even though her lectures are boring attend all of them bc you might miss important info.
She was so rude, she couldn't answer questions without making her students feel dumb. People stopped asking questions after the first week. She was disrespectful and would roll her eyes. I failed all her exams even though I studied. I only passed bc I did the hw, her lectures were too fast-paced i didn't pick up anything, even though i took notes
i have seen a lot of professors in my life but she is the worst i have seen in my all life. she is though grader and the test is so hard that you will stop thinking in the exam. don't take her class ever you will have a headache and depression every day.
she doesn't give you your grade until the end of the class so you basically half to do the math yourself to even see what grade you have in class. plus, she is really straight forward and in my opinion rude. like i would never go on here to rate anyone but this was literally the most stressful class, and i consider myself relatively good with math
She is not the worst professor ever but I would avoid taking her if you could. Very rude and snarky and gives attitude to students when they ask questions, and she keeps your grade locked all semester. Do the homework!! It makes a huge difference on your grade. She replaces your worst exam grade with your final exam grade if you do better on it.
Honestly, the worst professor I've ever had. But, all I can advise is to do every homework assignment because even if you fail the exams you can pass if you do well on the homework and complete all of it. No phones!!! In the middle of the semester, she started this rule where you can't enter the class if you're one minute or more minutes late.
very rude and snarky. teaches like she doesn't want to be there. not helpful to her students and talks to them like they are mentally challenged. Do well on homework assignments because even if you do bad on exams you can still pass. No phones are allowed and has a rule that if you are even 30 seconds late to the class she will not let you in
Don't take a class with this professor. If you see you have them, quickly try to switch out. This person doesn't deserve to be an educator. They are incredibly rude to students, grade unfairly, and will kick you out of class if you are one minute late. Just don't take this professor.
literally the worst teacher i've ever had. i would suggest dropping your class if you have her
I took this class with this instructor for all of two days before I realized it would not be an environment conducive to learning. She is incredibly unfriendly, plows through the lecture, struggles to explain concepts, and overall seems disinterested in her job. I had to come check this site to make sure I wasn't just being harsh and judging her!
Do not take her at all cost. No electronic devices allowed in the class. She teaches likes she doesn't wanna be there. I end up dropping off the class.
One of the worst professors I've had. Exam grading is unnecessarily critical & homework/class lectures don't reflect the expectations that she sets for the exams. Will take points off for missing a label or a unit but hw assignments don't reflect this criteria. Expect 3-4 assignments/week. Fast paced lectures & rigid criteria for communication.
i have never cried so hard about probabilities in my life. I took AP stats in highschool and it was harder then is class but somehow even worse
There is absolutely no world I would ever recommend this professor. She's extremely critical for absolutely no reason, she struggles explaining basic concepts and actually somehow makes them more confusing and difficult to understand, she seems uninterested in her job, etc etc etc. I can go on for hours. To sum it all up for you, DO NOT TAKE HER.
She can be a little harsh, but if you put in effort to participate, she will appreciate it. She gives good feedback and wants to see her students succeed, but she hates slackers. I really enjoyed her and felt that she made it easy to understand the materials
she's just plain mean
Carolyn's class is a tough one, but do the homework and you can pass. Lectures are dry, so use unstuck ai and other tools to supplement. Avoid being late - she has strict attendance rules. Overall, a challenging but manageable class if you put in the work.
Not nice at all per say but is a competent lecturer who wants students to succeed. Definitely try and look for another stats professor if you can, and if you do have to take her class, just complete all homework (it's a big part of the grade), answer questions in class and use the online textbook to prepare for tests, you should be just fine!
I found her to be a good teacher, not the best, but definitely not bad like these reviews say. She's very nice and wants students to succeed. Not once was she ever rude to any student, like these reviews say. The only issue I had is the level of detail she wants included in the work for each problem. I find it completely unnecessary.
I CANNOT believe a person like this is allowed to teach at the university. She is snarky and always making a sly comment at a student, she nitpicks with her grading to a ridiculous extent (including how you stapled??), and she locks students out the class if they are more than 60 seconds late! Did I mention she was rude? Fire her please! And avoid!
The professor is very strict, I would cry every single day i was in her class. very rude and mean to the students. I was stare at the window debating on jumping off or listening to her ramble for a hour. If you love urself and your mental health DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!!
She is very passive aggressive. She is not a good teacher just speeds through the slides and barely explains the topic. Her class is very confusing and she is it very helpful. Her course is very stressful and time consuming. She takes a long time to respond DO NOT take her as an instructor. Exams are very confusing. Hard to take. Take ANYBODY ELSE
Listen to the other reviews, this professor is terrible. Yes, she sets her expectations clearly but she can be rude about it. she has a tendency to tell students that their explanation is wrong then proceeds to explain the same thing. she scolds you for having your phone out or ringer on.
Attendance is mandatory which wasn't a problem for me however, if you have a question you're better off asking the wall. Homework is time consuming and hefty. She would deduct points on my tests because I did not show my work "clear" enough and the work in question would be "5+5=10"?????? One singular question on an exam was worth 20 points??
I hated my life because of her class
She prevents students from seeing their grades on Canvas and she's very particular with the amount of work you have to show on assignments.
She was not nice. please listen to these reviews, avoid her class if you can!!
She goes over so much material in such little time and it gives students barely any time to understand it. Also, if you missed a class, there was no effort from her side to help you. Homework/assignments are very time consuming and she doesn't even allow you to see what your grade is throughout the semester. Super strict classroom rules as well.
She just was not a good person. I was always anxious to go to class. Lots of homework.
By far the worst professor I've ever had. Hates everyone in her class. Very tough grader (if you have a minor calculation error, don't expect to do well on the question). 80 % of the content doesn't even appear in her mid terms. She's also just straight up rude, yells at people even if they're challenged. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS
All these reviews are very dramatic. She seems a little harsh and rude but talking to her one on one she is actually nice and cares about your success. The only reason she seems that way is during lecture is because she wants to get through all the material so we can do well on exams. Homework load is heavier, but helpful. Not that bad overall
I really don't understand these reviews. She is an amazing professor, sure in the beginning you may feel intimidated but she truly wants the best for her students and will answer any question until you get it. Exams were very specific and easy to lose points but the final is easier than the exams. Homework really boosts your grade. I recommend her!
Somewhat unapproachable. One-on-one, she's much more helpful than in the lecture. While her lectures were required, I found myself learning through the textbook, with her lectures almost being counterproductive to my learning. Not as evil as some of these other reviews suggest, but definitely among the worst learning experiences I've ever had.
Please save yourself. Do what I couldn't, save yourself the headache. Take another professor.
She's a tough grader, doesn't allow group work, gives unclear lectures, barely relates anything in class to the quizzes or exams, and her written feedback is hard to read or understand.
Too fast-paced, and never fully explains concepts. She just can't teach. And on top of that, her quizess and exams are insanly hard.
Avoid at all costs.
If I could rate her a 0/5 I would. You will never in your life meet a professor as rude as Ms. H. Not only does she not answer your questions, but also LOVES to correct you when you are saying the right answer! Also, if you answer a question on the test that isn't EXACTLY LIKE her answer sheet - you might as well have left it blank. AVOID!!!!
Her teaching style is extremely outdated and she refuses to branch out and try new things. Shes not passionate about teaching and it shows, her lectures are unclear, the work load is unnecessarily heavy, and the homework never relates to anything you might see on a test or quiz. Rendering it virtually useless. If you can, avoid taking her class!!!
bro, if you want to pass/get a good grade, choose another prof.
The homework was fine and manageable, but she was also a tough grader. Tests were graded harshly and inconsistently, making her easily the worst test grader I've ever had. Beyond that, she was rude, not empathetic, and often disrespectful toward students. Even with effort, her attitude made the class feel hostile and discouraging. DO NOT TAKE!!!
I HATE HER. If you are reading this PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. I tried so hard to get an A in her class, and I ended with a super high A- which she refuses to curve or give any extra credit to help me cross her high 93% threshhold she put for an A. When she is grading something she finds ANY way to take off points, even when you have it right.
She gives out a QUIZ EVERY WEEK after an hour-long lecture on top of the four exams. If you have to take this class, don't use her!
She was at most passive aggressive, but honestly respectful. Despite that, she made me deprived of any ounce of hope or confidence in my life. I would be the one in class who answers questions and sits up front, studying for hours every day. No matter how much I tried, I always failed. By the grace of God the final exam helped my grade.
