Fun class. I really enjoyed it. I like half the movies we watch, which were all classics I have never seen before. If you are easily offensive on touchy subjects or theme this may not be the class for you. It was my favorite class last semester. The test and the grading is very fair.
I LOVED THIS CLASS! She's a GREAT teacher. Grading is fair and she is very helpful. There's lots of class discussion and we get into some intense topics. She loves hearing people's opinions and you can tell how passionate she is about films. Most films are good, had to get use to the black/white films but enjoyed this class in general. Great class!
Great teacher, really knows her movies. You will learn a lot about films and enjoy the process of breaking them down. A must take class.
This professor was my first, at the University level, and I was indeed pleasured. She made my first semester worthwhile. Very clear on the material and very interesting discussion class. I'm a dude and for a women's studies class, it was hell of interesting. I got a B, but I procrastinated. Definitely an easy A though..
Carolyn was incredibly helpful. The books are necessary and she goes out of her way to find the least expensive ones. She's passionate about what she teaches and makes those topics fun. Only four essays in six weeks, maybe not an "easy" A but pretty close.
She is a great and helpful teacher!I learned a lot and i will miss this class!
Ms. Carolyn is a passionate teacher. She goes out of her way to use affordable textbooks, genuinely cares about her students, and improves your writing through honest comments. Definitely my favorite teacher thus far in my time here at UF. Highly recommended!
You need 6,000 words? Take this class, its not that bad. She'll teach you how to write and worst case, you'll get a B.
Fun class! you never use the textbook, but need it to answer the exam study guide questions. It's not an easy A, but if you just put in some solid work you'll do fine!
Carolyn is a hoot! Very fun and engaging, lots learned. She's pretty much a fierce feminist with an opinion, never a dull moment. You do have to go to class and take notes. The quizzes are easy and you'll have t write a total of 4 papers the whole semester. It's a fun class.
Carolyn is great! Definitely recommend! She is hilarious, entertaining & super nice! The "textbook" is a cheap OBT reader that she combines all the texts into. Overall, you have to write four 2 page essays and you have three in-class quizzes. I got an A and it required a lot of work, but maybe that's because I'm not a great writer. H, N and 600 GR
Very entertaining class. Kelley does not hold back at all which makes the class extremely interesting and even at times a tad uncomfortable. Overall, the works studied are each fantastic and the workload is manageable. Going to class is mandatory. If you're a good writer, the class will be easier. There will be multiple (short) papers to write.
Loved the class! She's such an entertaining, understanding professor. She cares for her students. She's an awesome professor. And I'm really going to miss the class.
AWESOME!
awesome sauce
Great teacher! The class was very fun. If you need to do your gordon rule/gen ed this is the right class.
Carolyn is the best professor! I truly enjoyed her class. She has the best lectures. Her course on humanities perspective on sexuality and gender was unique and mind opening and she created it herself. She is an extremely caring professor. She loves her students and they love her back! She keeps you laughing in class. She helped me get an A
Best professor ever! Class very interesting but a bit difficult if you do not like writing papers. Exams require studying.
Fantastic person and fantastic teacher - she really cares about her students and the subject matter and approaches everything with perfect sensitivity and humor. I idolize Dr. Kelley.
One of the best professors at UF! She is AWESOME!
Dr. Kelley is the best professor I have ever encountered at the University of Florida. As my Professional Business Writing instructor, she ensured that her students learned, put forth effort, and improved their writing. By holding extra office hours, creating worksheets, and effectively teaching, she helped my writing become clear and concise.
Most amazing professor I have ever had! She is so passionate about her students. I learned so much from her! She wanted us to voice our opinions and always gave two different perspectives instead of merely a one-sided perspective like many professors are so very guilty of doing.
By far my favorite professor yet! I'm taking WST2611 with her now, and she makes that class so interesting. I look forward to it all week. She's an intelligent, creative, and fierce woman, and if you like discussing literature in depth, this class is for you! She's also super helpful and friendly if you need any help whatsoever.
She is an awesome instructor! The subjects we discussed in class were interesting and could be applied to everyday life. At first it may seem hard to keep up with her weekly readings but it's not to hard to catch up.
LOVED her! She was so energetic, passionate, and interesting. She was very open and honest with her students. Directions were always clear. Whenever anyone had a question she was happy to answer them! I definitely recommend her class.
I had her for Writing for PreMed. Extremely helpful class if you are any sort of premed or prevet student. You can easily get an A as long as you put in the effort. She is extremely helpful and you will learn a lot! Wonderful professor!
My spiel on Dr. Kelley is simple. Do the work, be engaged and you won't regret it. There will be times where the films are boring as ever, but she points things out that you didn't even notice before. Which makes it interesting. She encourages students to be open and honest, and think about gender and the patriarch and a whole different manner.
Her personality is very open, kind, funny, and approachable. Her lectures were never boring and consistently stimulated my interest. She covers very important topics, and I recommend this course for everyone. The work load isn't bad at all! She is hands down one of my favorite professors
I loved her personality! She always made class interesting with jokes. I took this class during summer B, it wasn't as fast-paced as I thought it would be. The workload is not demanding at all. Just keep up with the readings and you'll be fine. She even posts PowerPoint lectures online! She also helps with your essays if you go to her office hours.
Professor Kelley is great! I have nothing but good things to say! I took this class at my first semester at UF and coming from a small, conservative town I was shocked with some of the things discussed in class. Professor Kelley is excellent with not pressuring students with her beliefs, she just really wants to broaden student's mindsets!
Fairly simple class! If you're good with analyzing texts, you'll be fine! Exams are easy as long as you do the reading & take good notes in class. For the essays, she allows you to turn in a rough draft which she'll edit before the due date. The rough drafts are super helpful. Dr. Kelley is phenomenal and I loved going to her class!
Hands down my favorite professor. No textbook, most of the reading aare online except one mini novel you have to buy (I got it on Amazon for $0.01). There is lots of reading, but the discussion is fun and she brings up super interesting points. After this class, I truly had a better understanding about gender, its portrayal in books and media, and it's impacts. She is super helpful and funny. The class requires you to pay attention and do the work, but it's not too difficult to keep up with, even though I had a SUmmer B class. I definitely reccomend and plan on taking her again in the Spring.
Dr Kelley is by far the best professor I have ever had and this is the one class and professor I recommend to every single person who asks! I got an A, class is very straightforward and she makes the topics fun while also seriously teaching a lot. Honestly got by without doing too much reading at all because her lectures are so great. Awesome!!!
Dr. Kelley is truly a great professor overall. She is a fair grader, she gives interesting and hilarious lectures, and she truly cares about what her students think. This class is definitely one of my favorites and I highly recommend taking it if you love film and have a passion for womens studies.
This class was both interesting and entertaining without being a huge stressor. Kelley is hilarious and lectures are always endearing. She knows her stuff and is a very fair grader. The readings are not challenging and do not take up too much of your time. However, reading the material is important! Definitely take this class!!
As a premed, this class helped with personal statements/interviews/resumes. She is a knowledgeable professor (almost as good as Bobbi Knickerbocker) and will always help. Most assignments come with regrades, so you can earn back points you miss. She reads through every line of your work, so make sure to not BS! Great office hour opportunities.
Dr. Kelley is my girl. She was one of the greatest professors I've ever had and was honestly inspiring. The workload was wasn't heavy but it is a words class so be ready to write, and take 2 standard exams. the readings were dense in content but nothing to crazy. She was great with grading and feedback and offers a rewrite for one paper.
I recommend this class 100%. Dr. Kelley is an amazing professor who aims to expand your mind while also accepting all opinions on the subject matter. She is hilarious and makes lectures engaging. 2 papers and 2 tests, as long as you do the readings (not bad) and listen to her lectures you will do fine. Great class for anyone!!
I can't say enough good about Dr. Kelley, or this class in general! She provides every opportunity for success. If you do the rough draft for the 2 papers, she provides enough feedback for a 100. The course is interesting and makes you overall more compassionate.
I'm really disappointed in this class so far. I've only made one comment via the discussions in class because of how marginalizing the professor makes you feel if you're not a women of color. I thought this was a women's study class... not a class about white society. She literally said in class today that "white women do not have to deal w intercu
Dr. Kelley is a very nice teacher who aims to please people of all backgrounds and walks of life. The lectures are entertaining and the papers are standard, but I still have not learned a thing and the semester is over. This 'Women in Film' course barely discusses film and is mostly a feminist course - also very liberal, if that bothers you at all.
Amazing professor! She cares about her students and wants to see you succeed. Office hours are very beneficial.
Dr. Kelley is my favorite professor at UF. I've had her for two classes and she's one of the most sincere, helpful, and intelligent professors I've had. Her lectures are entertaining and engaging, and her assignments are straightforward and easily completed if you put in the work. She gives great feedback on papers and even offers rewrite options.
Excellent professor. She's incredibly nice and considerate of your problems and needs and is available whenever you need help inside or outside office hours. She's doesn't do pop quizzes, any assignment will allow you to have your reading material to work with to write or fill out questions.
Dr. Kelley is my favorite professor! She is so caring and truly wants her students to do well in the class. There are only two exams and two essays graded, so I suggest visiting her office hours (they are very helpful)!! The readings aren't too hard to stay on top of and the class is incredibly eye opening.
Dr. Kelley is by far my favorite teacher at UF. She's incredibly caring and respectful. She loves her students and is very passionate about what she teaches. She lets students re-write several papers for the opportunity to get a better grade or an average of the two grades. She's a pretty easy grader and is super helpful during office hours. 10/10
There were about 4 major papers and 2 take-home quizzes. If you put in an effort, turn in the drafts, do the re-writes, and listen to her advice, you will certainly get at least an A-. I only say A- because if you're a terrible writer she does have pretty high expectations. I think she's awesome and really makes you think outside the box.
She made this class super enjoyable. She doesn't make you buy any of the texts we read which is awesome. There were 2 major papers but if you listen to how she wants it done and go to her office hours (which she is 110% helpful) you're set. Also a midterm and final but if you go to class and take good notes you will be more than fine!!!
Dr. Kelley is absolutely amazing. She taught me for Summer B from 12:30-1:45, and I wish the semester was longer. The works discussed in class are also interesting. Read and truly understand the discussed texts and listen closely to lectures if you want to do well. She also provides opportunities for paper drafts and extra credit test questions!
Taught me to be a better writer, and I still remember her words to this day about not using vague pronouns.
Dr. Kelley is an amazing teacher and her lectures are very interesting, filled with humor, inquisitiveness, and serious issues. Women in hollywood is very interesting and you will watch movie clips almost everyday and then talk about what the scenes meant and it is extremely interesting. Awesome class, awesome professor, lets you do rewrites
Best class I've taken at UF. Incredibly interesting and she's an amazing lecturer.
She gave me an amazing lecture throughout the semester spring 2019. It was a bit difficult for me to understand the whole lecture because of my language skill.(I was an exchange student at that time.) But, whenever I came over her to ask questions after class, she always answered what I wanted to ask her kindly.
Dr Kelley is an amazing professor. She cares a lot about her students. Theres a lot of reading to do but she goes over everything for the test in class
Dr. Kelley's class was honestly so much fun and I would 10/10 take it again. There were a lot of great discussions, which made the class really interesting even though some of the topics are a little weird. She gives the opportunity to rewrite her essays, and her exams are a breeze as long as you do most of the readings.
I loved taking this class! The name is extremely ambiguous, Humanities Discipline through Writing, but don't be afraid, it's actually really interesting. Dr. Kelley really cares about her students, and is very passionate about what she's teaching. Just make sure you do the assigned watching/reading or you'll be absolutely lost.
I LOVE Dr. Kelley & her IDS course!! If you are looking for a class to take besides good life, take hers. You won't regret it :)
Best professor, hands down.
I love Dr. Kelley! I took her IDS2935 course: Humanities Disciplines through Writing to replace my What Is The Good Life credit. She's so enthusiastic in class and gives great feedback on essays. Just make sure you do the readings because those are vital to passing the class.
Dr. Kelley is my favorite professor at UF and one of my most favored teachers of all time. The Writing in Women's Studies class is not difficult. We have readings, discussions, and papers, the usual for a writing class. She's a fair grader and allows for optional first drafts. She's also very kind and knowledgeable, so you'll learn new things.
Dr. Kelley is a terrific professor. I took her Quest 1 class (Humanities Discipline Through Writing) to fulfill my Good Life credit and I would 100% recommend taking this class. She is super helpful with her feedback and gives plenty of opportunities to pick up your grade if you're struggling. Attendance isn't mandatory but class was really fun.
Dr. Kelley was my favorite professor this semester! She's so caring and sweet. You can tell she truly loves her profession. Although your grade is based on the midterm, final, and three papers, she does provide the opportunity to turn in a first draft and receive feedback on the three papers before getting a final grade. Highly recommend!
I took her for ENC 3254 and Writing in the Medical Professions. Both times she was a wonderful teacher and gave students every opportunity to improve their writing skills and grade in the class. She is very sweet and very available to talk to. She provides 1st drafts with feedback before assignment due dates and rewrites for grade improvement.
If you are even debating taking a class with Dr. Kelley: DO IT!! I have taken 2 of her courses at UF now and I absolutely adore her. She cares so much about her students, even outside of class. She gives amazing feedback and offers first drafts on essays. The exams are easy if you attend lecture and take notes (very doable). I highly recommend!
Dr. Kelley was an amazing professor. I took her class over the summer & we met every single day which was a lot. She assigned lots of readings all of which were interesting. Attendance is mandatory. You wont want to miss her lectures because her tests are HEAVILY based off of what she discussed in class, even small details. Shes really there 4 u
Dr. Kelley is amazing!! I would highly recommend this course to fulfill your quest requirement! Everything from the supplemental movies, to novels, to short stories, to poems, to artwork were fantastic! Her lectures were really interesting and engaging as well. She is very open-minded and caring.
Do not hesitate to take her class as she is an amazing professor. The novels, film, and literature she uses are extremely interesting. A few papers that werent super difficult but took a little time and attendance is mandatory as she gives a grade for it. Overall easy course
Cares about the students and the content. Many extra credit and revision opportunities. 2 quizzes that come from materials repeatedly discussed in class; super easy if you pay attention. Great reviews and comments on the papers. Understanding and available.
Best professor I have had at UF. She is so respectful and caring. I recommend her 100%. You will not regret meeting and knowing such a wonderful woman.
One of the best professors at UF! extremely understanding and makes you excited to learn about her course. There are 2 1,000-1,850 word essays that are really easy if you pay attention in class. and she gives an optional rewrite to average ur worse writing grade (it' hard to get a bad grade). and there are only 2 exams noncumulative.
Listen to the other reviews, Dr. Kelley is the BEST professor at UF! She is extremely caring when it comes to her students and enthusiastic about the course, which encourages everyone to learn. You grade will mainly be based on essays and quizzes, but she is extremely fair and provides phenomenal feedback. A true gem!!
Best and kindest professor hands down. Cares so deeply about students and has interesting and engaging content!! Quizzes are super specific and based on class discussion/readings, so make sure to pay close attention. She is the sweetest human though -such a refreshing experience from other profs here lol
Dr. Kelley is super good about responding to emails, she grades pretty easy and gives good feedback on your essays. You only have four assignments for the entire semester (for summer B at least, idk about other semesters): two quizzes and two essays that she gives a lot of guidance on. Highly recommend taking her class as someone who hates writing.
Dr. Kelley is an amazing professor. I fell in love with this class because of the material, but more importantly, how much passion Dr. Kelley has for the topics she teaches. She gives you the space and freedom to learn and engage in class. She is always willing to help if you don't understand the material and isoverall an amazing, caring proffesor.
I love Dr. Kelley so much! The grades (two papers, two quizzes) are not too difficult and she offers so much extra credit that it's honestly difficult to bomb her classes even if you were actively trying. She's extremely friendly and willing to answer questions at office hours if you reach out. All around great teacher!
I had Dr. K for the honors quest course titled "Writing Life" (IDS2935). My favorite class ever. Not only was the material super interesting, but Dr. Kelley is a fabulous human being. I'm a stem major, so having a humanities class was a little dreadful initially, but after her course I'm definitely taking more humanities focused courses.
Phenomenal professor. Dr. Kelley is one of the most intelligent women I have learned from. Take this class and LEARN.
Get ready to watch 1/2 movies a week plus an analysis reading. The movies are good and so are discussions, get psyched its a great class.
One of the most influential classes I've ever taken. Really made me take a step back and reevaluate some things in my life and I'll forever be grateful for that. Amazing professor who is very caring and encourages thoughtful discussion. The readings and essays were a fair amount of work, but it was bearable and overall an enjoyable class.
I absolutely LOVED Professor Kelley. I took her WST3335 class. She really cares about her students. She offers some extra credit throughout the semester, and the whole semester is writing-heavy, based on 2 papers and 4 quizzes. As long as you pay attention to lectures and take great notes, it's easy to get an A in her class. HIGHLY recommend!
Very very passionate and its obvious she really cares about her students. Gives so much feedback on each paper and allows each student to earn some points back on papers.
The class was a rolling discussion, and the only real assignments were 2 papers and a few quizzes. She works with you as far as extensions and cares a lot about the students and the topics being discussed. make sure to keep up with the readings before class!! (otherwise you'll be really confused)
Professor Kelley was amazing!! All the lectures were so informative and I was always interested in what I was learning. There is a lot of readings, but most are pretty easy and fun to get through, and if you miss one or two it is not a big deal :) 2 essays and 2 exams, but they aren't too hard if you study and come to class! I would take again!!
I took her Quest 1 class and although she grades harshly the papers her feedback is amazing. She gives the opportunity to rewrite a paper and gives you the average which boosts a lot your grade. Make sure to go to her office hours to draft your papers and she gives lot extra credit too. Pay attenttion to her lectures too for the quizzes.
Such an amazing and fun class and Professor Kelley is such a kind women. The class is graded off very few things but as long as you pay attention in class and take notes, the exams will be easy. There is a daily reading but it isn't too bad and they were usually interesting. I LOVE PROFESSOR KELLEY!
dr kelly is literally amazing! she truly loves teaching but whats really important is that she really does care about her students. her grading rubric is 100% to the T how she will grade it. some say she grades harshly, but if you follow the rubric (the one discussed in the ppt!) you shouldn't have any issues.
dr. kelley is an amazing professor and if you can get in her class, do it!! she's the sweetest and really listens to her students needs and wants and is very passionate about the literature she teaches. her grading is very clear and she leaves comments on things that can improve if you want to do a rewrite of any essays.
My favorite class at UF so far! Dr. Kelley is so kind and funny and makes the lectures interesting and engaging. Definitely take her class if you get the opportunity! As long as you watch all the moves and pay attention in class you'll do fine!
The best professor at UF! If you have the chance please take her class. I took this class and WST3335 because of how kind she is. HIGHLY recommend. One thing to note is to take good notes in class to help write her papers.
I took her for one of her classes for Quest 1 and it was really enjoyable. Class participation is make or break, though. Her class is heavily reminiscent of AP Literature for those who have taken it. Overall she is encouraging and fair.
I love Dr. Kelley. Her class is very interesting and she is amazing person. She offers optional rewrites for the essays we do and you can go to her office hours to plan your essays. Attendance is mandatory but each class is very interesting. There are readings but you'll learn a lot if you pay attention and try.
She's a literal angel. Incredibly caring, kind, and a great teacher who encourages you to think deeply about things. She genuinely wants to see you improve and gives opportunity for essay rewrites, and her feedback has genuinely helped me so much. If you get the chance, take her class!
I love Dr. Carolyn Kelley! Her class was amazing and the lectures were so interesting. She genuinely wants her students to do well in the class and offers great feedback.
Her lectures are so fun and you can tell that she has expertise in teaching and analyzing the texts. She is so kind and takes time away from her day to talk to students regardless if the topic is relevant to the class. Please take her if you can she's actually goated.
Dr Kelley is so sweet and is so passionate about this class. workload is definitely manageable, but grades are made up of 4 assignments (2 papers and 2 exams), so be cautious of that. the class is lecture-discussion, but participation is optional. if you're interested in this type of thing, i highly recommend Dr Kelley!!
Very lenient on attendance policy, mental health advocate, quite a bit of reading but not too bad for a words req. course. Readings are great and lectures are really fun. Dr. Kelley is a great professor, cares about students and is passionate about course material. Said to be a tough grader for essays, but if you're strong writer, you easily get A
Amazing professor! She's incredibly organized, with clear formats and examples for every assignment. Her feedback is detailed and helpful, and the assignments themselves are well-designed and genuinely useful. The lectures and activities are engaging and support your learning. She's also super nice and caring.
She is a very sweet professor, she is always encouraging you to ask for help and provides ample extra credit and office hours. She makes learning incredibly enjoyable and really makes you develop a new thought process. Make sure you read every text she provides, and you'll do good in the class.
I love Dr. Kelley so much she is super fair, super caring and give excellent lectures and feedback. Even though I did not get a high GPA in this class I learned a lot of interesting stuffs. If you are good at writing and enjoy arts her class would be so much fun but if you have a poor writing skill this class would take SO MUCH of your time!
I took my first women's studies class with Dr. Kelley (Women in Film) and I loved it. She is very kind and her lectures are always so interesting. The coursework also wasn't very demanding. It was split up into two major assignments that you could revise for a higher grade and two quizzes, and that was it. You mainly learned through her lectures.
LOVED HER! If you follow the rubric for the papers, you will do good. She also has office hours that you can utilize and she helps out with whatever you need. The exams I would say were pretty difficult, but if you really understand the material an A is possible. Overall such a caring and inspirational teacher who I would love to take again!
Absolutely phenomenal lecturer. You analyze media from books to films to art (The Great Gatsby to Pulp Fiction), and discussed everything from gender to mythological allusions. She's open-minded to other interpretations as long as you can support them. NOT a throwaway class, the writing advice is legitimately helpful. Need Quest? Take this.
loved her. the material is pretty interesting and she clearly loves teaching it. grade is made up of 3 papers and 2 exams, but she is very available and excited to help and give feedback as you go. also very kind & understanding; i have a heart condition that made me miss multiple lectures and i wasn't penalized despite not having doctor's notes.
She's a great person and teacher because she's super knowledgeable, but she does assign a lot of readings and sometimes talks really fast. If you're looking for a class that doesn't require much effort at home or after class, I wouldn't recommend it. I enjoyed my time in this class, but this class was the most work I had in the semester.
Professor Kelley is one of the most personable and kind professors I have had at UF so far. She cares so much about the course, as well as the well being of every student in the class, making it very enjoyable to be present. This class is very interesting and engaging and I seriously think about the stuff she taught us on the daily.
I took Writing life as my Quest 1 course and I thoroughly enjoyed the class content and going to lectures. All material is through course reserves and you only have to purchase one book or find the pdf online. Make sure to take detailed notes as they will be helpful for exams. Doctor Kelley was fantastic.
