made a seating chart for the entire lecture hall. 4 exams, all multiple choice w/ 75 questions. uses slideshows. a so-so professor.
Made a cheating chart for 600 students which was RIDICULOUS. Boring, not entertaing, uses boring powerpoint
i did take her psych 2 class and must admit i didnt like her teaching style..but social psych is a different story. she was very familiar with the area and taught it great. very entertaining.

One of the worst UCR professors. Unorganized, unprofessional and UNETHICAL! AVOID HER! She needs to retire for the benefit of all students.

INSANE LADY. I took her ethnic studies class in the summer and she told us about CIA conspiracies and how Bill Clinton was a part of the illuminating and that minorities should never have blood transfusions becuase the doctors put AIDs in that blood. Also

I like her.. she's funny and nice. Approachable, clear teaching methods. Never heard any conspiracies from her and I took two of her classes.
i love this class!! it's entertaining and fun! you could never fall asleep in here! plus, she knows her stuff like the back of her hand. very easy going and funny. cracks jokes allll the time..and they're funny too!..
I do not recommend her. She is very disorganized, unclear, and biased. Her test questions are ambiguous and sometimes there is no way we can find the answers in her notes. sometimes her notes don't even make sense!
I found her to be a good teacher in Psyc 167. She was nice to talk to and helpful outside of lecture, also. I went to see her to ask for help on a paper and she didn't have any problem with taking her time to help me or the other students.
Murray is a very unlcear and difficult to understand teacher. i felt like iknew more than her while taking the class, and although she is a Black psychology teacher, shes the one who seems ****, even though shes teaching non discrimination
She is extremely unorganized. She is very biased in everything that she teaches. It is very hard to understand her notes or follow what she's saying. The tests are difficult because they were very unclear and biased.
She was very biased in her teaching. She always seemed to pointed out how much minorities are constantly put down by whites. Not a good teacher to get u don't want to hear about black suppression and racism every five minutes.

when she alphabetized the whole class (around 500 at unlh) i knew she'd be a horribe teacher. she made fun of one student whose couldn't speak english well, and she kept tapping on the white board w/ her fingers which made marks all over the notes on the overhead.. boo on her.
Madam Murray was very adamate about her stance on issues. She could be a little negative when it comes to making you feel stupid, but she helped me whenever I went to ask her for help. Others haven't had that opportunity. Gotta think on her terms to pass the class at times.
when you go to lectures you should take good notes because she bases some of the tests on that. if you take her study guides off ilearn and you fill it in, you'll do fine. i got by filling in study guides and not having to read the chapter.

Professor ranks high on the wacko scale, her hair is interesting, she had a seating chart for a class of 600, and she likes to express that she's god's creation. TA's are super obnoxious. Attending class is unnecessary, but make sure you carefully read the book.
Her notes are clear and easy to understand. Felt lyk u actually learned something. general speakin a pretty good class to take.
I liked her class, and loved the TA's I think they were helpful and went WAY out of their way to help us.
The class itself is pretty pointless, because she posts the notes on ilearn, but she gives you hints on what is going to be on the test. Marie as a T.A. is sooo helpful! She is the best. Take the class, its an easy B, but if you read the book you can get an A. I got an A in the class..no sweat
I think she was a funny teacher... very expressive and animated, kept me awake the entire lecture. Her TAs are AWESOME! Interesting class too :D
lectures are soso fun! never dozed off during her lecture. she was extremely clear on what she was saying and all her tests were easy. Most of the problems are from your textbooks and partially from lecture.
she's cool. her class isn't too hard if you read the notes enough and listen up in lecture.

she is crazy!!!! had over a 50% failure rate! in an ethnic studies class, she tried to teach us a psychology model on behavior that she was still developing. i do not recommend taking her courses, you will be disappointed!
The way she dresses is quite tasteless and her hair is something else....She has a terrible grading scale, you need 95% in her classes to get an A, no extra credit....I would not take her again.

What an amazing person. Dedicated and always willing to help out a student, I did some psych research with her while at UCR. She is very inspirationsl :)
HORRIBLE.... HORRIBLE!!!! If you are non-ethnic student, be prepared for her to hate you!!! She loves to rip on the "white culture" and one of her test questions was "How do white teachers view black students" answer "lazy and stupid". NO DOUBT!!!! This was question.....Please retire soon, I hated your class every minute I was in it....
She's weird and doesn't seem like she wants to be in the classroom teaching. She sees everything as a black issue. It gets old after a while. I don't know why she teachs this class becase she's not a clinical psychologist. It doesn't make any sense to me.

Dr.Murray is dedicated to what she does. Classes r intereting & will force you to look at many issues that u have yet to be exposed to. Anyone who complains about her MT and Finals didn’t really look at the study guides.I only studied for 20min & got a B on my MT.If u want to be challenged to think outside the box,professor Murray is a must take!
I hated this class. She was disorganized with everything, lectures and tests. She lectured a couple of times only; she had speakers. When she spoke, it was always putting down everybody other race that wasn't african american. I found this class extremely bias. I don't even know what I learned, except how much anger toward whites she has.
I had zero intrest in this class and we didnt even have leactures, all of the classes were made up of spreakers who manly preched instead of taught. I didnt buy any of the books and wrote the paper the night before it was due and got an A. Easy class but I dont think i learned anything. LOL. In conclusion the Speakers were the worst part.
Worst Professor ever!! I learned absolutely nothing in this class, complete waste of time, not to mention how **** she is herself! would bash on anyone that was not black. The speakers were boring and bias themselves. Do not take her, shes a horrible professor not to mention her ridiculous wardrobe and hair!

the class was fun, but the tests were hard. she does give out a study guide which goes over ALL of the terms that is on the exams. there are 2 9-12 page APA papers due for the class. overall, the course was interesting but she lags. doesnt like to let students out early. study from the study guide and u'll be coo.
I had her for Psych 2 and Psych 140. I think she's a great professor. I really enjoyed her stories which really helped me to understand the material better (especially during exams). She's a fair grader and reasonable. Exams are pretty straight forward if you do the studying. Overall, she's a great teacher.
Yeah this teacher pretty much sucked. She has a friggin test basically every other day. And every test is unnecessarily long. Avoid this teacher please.
Horrible teacher. She speaks way to fast and it's hard to keep up with her. She pretty much regurgitates the words in the book. 4 midterms, worth 25% each...good luck..(every 2 weeks). She also goes over pointless stuff and rushes through lecture when she should be worrying about the important subjects.
She is not a good teacher. Her class started out focused on how the indiviual has an effect on society, then the class transformed to how only African-American individuals had an effect on society. That is not what the class is suppose to be about. Her notes were bad and her test had questions about things you didn't learn in lecture.
Professor Murray is awful. It seems like she only became a teacher to hear herself talk all day long. This class was so biased it was ridiculous. ALL of the readings and research came from her own lab and most of it was at least 15-20 years old. She is bad at answering questions, will cut you off in the middle and makes you feel stupid. Horrible!!!
Murray is the worst teacher I have ever had. If you are smart you will avoid her like the plague! everyone hates her. she is totally crazy and only talks about ridiculous conspiracy theories and personal stories during class. AND she will hate you if you are white. No joke. I am not even white and I am saying this. DO NOT TAKE HER FOR ANYTHING!!!!!
This is a class I would say is an easy B, but a hard A. It's not hard per say, but her tests are really long (50 mc questions in 50 minutes). At least 5 of the questions on the test would be on stuff she never taught, but everything else is on the study guide. She takes attendance and does extra credit clicker questions, so go to class.
THE WORST TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD. She is immature, mean, inconsiderate and disrespectful against other races. She has low self esteem so she reflects it upon her teachings in class. CLICKERS are a MUST and don't ever get caught using two. I don't think she taught me anything at all in this class. It is a waste of time and money. DO NOT TAKE HER CLAS

Ok I don't know why some of these people are posting the negative comments about her but I got an A in her class and I put forth very minimal effort. The only people who are complaining about her are the ones who didn't go to class, and got the grade they deserved. She offers plenty of extra credit, so there is no way to not get a good grade.
AMAZING teacher. If you actually engage yourself in the material, it's really easy, social psych is after all mostly common sense. She's really understanding about circumstances beyond your control. She's very very fair in everything and as long as you pay attention and read and focus, you'll do well. You get out of the class what you put in.

Very unclear professor. has racial undertones in her lecture. and sounds like she doesn't know hot to teach. attendance is mandatory. Tests are tricky. First test, the average was a D. very unprofessional. pass on this professor
By far the worst professor I've ever had. She is horrible at making exams. Many questions on exams are very debatable. Does not curve at all. Which basically means.. your screwed. Flips slides without giving time for students to write down notes. Must buy scantrons cause she doesn't believe in clickers. So basically, avoid her cause she sucks
People on here that say she's awful are probably people who don't really try. Sooo..this is an upper division course..so yes you will have work. BUT she includes stories that help you remember. Do your work and engage in the material and you'll do great! She's a great professor!!!
most incompetent professor i have ever come across. any positive rating on this page is most definitely written by murray herself, as she's made very clear in lecture that she thinks that highly of herself.
Professor Murray provided us with all the materials we needed to be successful. With hard work and a lot of studying, a good grade is attainable. Her course is designed to push you to work harder than usual, and think outside of the box. She is a wonderful Professor and anyone who says otherwise just needs to apply themselves.
She is that bad of a teacher that everyone says she is. You really have to try in this class to get a good grade since she does not curve. Her lectures are mandatory, but they are quite interesting. Her tests are simple if you listen carefully and really understand the terms that she gives you on the study guide.

To be honest, Professor Murray has her ups and downs. In lecture she can be funny and you do learn in her class but there is no curve and class is mandatory. she's definately not approachable. She once stated she likes making people feel uncomfortable. But yeah, just pay attention in class and take notes. You should be fine.
Prof Murray, is a clear teacher but very unhelpful, and made me feel uncomfortable in her class as a white girl. She was very pro-black which is fine but always insulted all the white children as often as she could. When I approached her for help she ignored me (emails) or said my questions were stupid ( when asking for help on a paper)
Dr. Murray's class will change your entire mindset depending on how you interpret her lectures. Her lectures are interesting and funny, and her tests are EASY, just take notes and skim readings and you'll be fine. Only problem is that she is not very available to help you outside of class (i.e., office hours/email).
Attend lecture and pay attention to what she says more than what's on her lecture slides. She tends to go off her stories more than material. Whatever is on the study guide KNOW all those terms and ask you TA, they will be more than helpful. She is funny during lecture sometimes though, overall I had an alright experience with her though.
Dr. Murray is an interesting teacher. She has been teaching at UCR for a long time, and is very passionate about her work. She is very conceited and lazy about helping students. Prefers students to kiss up to her. Test are very tricky. Sometimes she will give you a grade you dont deserve. If you fight it, she will change it. Pay attention in class!
What people say about her is not true... she is a super easy A if you know all the key terms on her study guide, you'll obtain a good grade. She also gives extra credit. Overall, I only did the study guide and got an easy A. Oh yeah attendance is mandatory because of clicker questions which are super easy as well.
She's a nice lady, but needs to cut the racial slurs out of her lectures. Very easy A. Just go to class and get your clicker points and attendance, go to discussion and get those points, and do the study guides. You'll get an A no problem. Everything on the study guide is on the test. Utilize your TA cause they know what's up.
She's a funny nice lady. attendance is mandatory because she has daily clicker questions and some extra credit clicker questions. There no homework besides studying. Ask your TA for help, they know whats on the exam! study the study guide and you will get an A
The Murray hate is amusing. Extra credit is handed out like candy, there's no HW, and the exams are straight forward. An easy A if you want it.
I did not enjoy this class one bit. She makes you bring psychology scantrons to every single lecture instead of a clicker. Her lectures were unclear and I didn't buy a book. I ended with a B-, because I wasn't able to follow her lectures nor her tests.
Horrible teacher. Has unnecessary racial undertones in a lot of what she says. Repeats her prepositional phrases and the last three words of every sentence. Occasionally describes psychological conditions without any sense of gravity of seriousness. Only good thing was that the class was super-easy, plenty of extra credit, should be semi-easy.
Dr. Murray has been teaching at UCR for quite some time, and is an advocate for persons of color. I find many of the reviewers previous to me to be biased against her. She is a very charismatic professor, with a clear understanding of the material. She encourages students to collaborate on studying for her exams.

This class is really interesting. Professor Murray is pretty funny sometimes too, so lectures aren't that bad.Lectures are mandatory because of clickers. Gives out extra credit, and there are 4 midterms(no final) nothing cumulative. Not curved though, but the class is pretty easy
The low rating's ironic because the professor actually isn't that bad. It's true there isn't a curve, but the grading is proportioned evenly. She gives extra credit via clickers and is very funny. A huge recommend if trying to take a pretty easy psych class.
She is an entertaining professor. Lectures are mandatory and attendance is taken with clickers. Class consists of 4 tests which are based on the terms of a study guide she provides. Just study the terms and you will be fine. Textbook is heavily used. Extra credit is awarded by the amount of clicker questions you get correct during lecture.
She is an interesting character, but when it comes to teaching--she is not that great. The material is easy to understand, but she speeds through the important information and dwells on her life and unimportant information. When it came down to discussions, I felt like I learned better from the TA's and the instructor herself. I was disappointed.
While the tests are rather easy, shes a poor teacher. She speeds through lectures, reading off slides and going on wild tangents. Some of her stories are quite entertaining but many stories are really to inflate her sense of superiority. Some joke are in bad taste.
Honestly, this class is easy. She gives you a study guide on terms to study. During lecture she talks about what will be on the test in regards to that subject. If thats not an easy prof, I don't know what is. Effortless A.
I don't think she likes women. Which in itself is a weird statement to make.
Not welcoming and confusing. Unorganized, so make sure you keep track of all your work and grades. Feedback is not helpful. If you take her class make sure you can do it on your own because going to her office hours or seeing her after class will be a waste of time.

Dr Murray doesn't grade, her assistant grades for her. Her assistant ISN'T a classified UCR employee. Many of us saw her assistant give us grades for the BlackLivesMatter project (30% of our grade), and Dr Murray didn't care. She also refused to go over the quizzes with us. No feedback on many levels,Dr Murray's a low quality professor. Retirement?
If you don't attend lecture, don't read the chapters, or get correct answers on the pop quizzes then good luck! Her class was pact which made it difficult to hear her if you're sitting in the back. Just attend lecture every time and sit close to the front and you'll be fine.
Compared to the rest of the psych profs, she is the worst! Instead of dropping the lowest test score(which is what every psych prof does) she keeps them all. She makes us do way more work than needed; clickers, pop quizzes, attendance points, logs etc. Would never take her class again!
Good professor. She teaches well, but you have to work hard for the exams. Must read textbook and her power points. Not enough to just go over her study guide. Lots of chance for extra credit. Learned a lot from her class.
The class was pretty average. Show up to class because there's clicker questions. Don't buy the textbook! Lecture slides and the study guides are all you need. As long as you study, you should do well on exams (3 midterms/1 final). Shout out to my TA Emily, she was really helpful in discussion and made it easier to memorize and learn the material.
One of the worst intro classes I have taken. She reads word for word off her slides and it's really obvious. If she doesn't know what something means on the slides (which she got from online), she quickly clicks to the next slide. To put this class in perspective, I did better on my Biochemistry and Organic Chemistry midterms, than this class.
Lectures very straightforward. Sometimes she reads off slides but I still learned. Provides clickers, study guides. Exams are not terrible, just study hard and you'll get the results you want. Concepts were relatively easily to follow for someone who has taken psych before/as a psych major. She's a little old lady but has a nice sense of humor.
Honestly enjoyed this class. Took it to satisfy my breadth. Tests are noncumulative.
She is so funny and really is passionate about psychology. Her class is easy if you go to lecture and discussions and STUDY. Not too much studying but just glance over the study guide she writes because it's exactly whats on the test and you'll be golden.
Professor Murray is literally the best!! so many reviews here are so wrong about her! she is funny every lecture and made it so fun to come to class! she has clicker questions and anything over 20 correct is extra credit! she gave us study guides for every test and the exams were non cumulative including the final!! she's a great professor overall!
The class overall is easy. Her lectures are very interesting and she is a fun professor and also gives out extra credit. However, beware, she obviously favor students. If she does not like you, she will not call on you to give you points. She likes students that talk a lot.
Prof Murray is a charismatic instructor. However, she pretty much reads word for word off her slides during lecture, which are extremely disorganized and unnecessarily long/poorly designed. She takes attendance by passing a sign in sheet around a lecture of 200+ students. She writes her own exams and they are very confusing. Avoid her.
The class is easy, just do the study guides and memorize key terms. There are clicker questions you answer during lecture so attend regularly. There is extra credit too. Easy A.

Professor Murray is nice and funny but going to her lectures is not necessary to actually learn the material. The only reason why you should attend is for the poll questions she gives out for credit towards your grade. Otherwise, just create a quizlet for the study guide she gives out before every exam and you should be fine.
Dr. Murray is a really nice and funny person. Her class consisted of 4 exams and quizzes (which often took place in discussion, but clicker points counted towards this as well). The material is descent and in my personal opinion, going to lecture helped. Attendance is mandatory if you want clicker points (extra points become EC) Don't buy the book!
Highly encourage you not to take psychology of the black experience with Dr. Murray as the professor. Many rude comments were made by her and the TA throughout the quarter. Gave pop quizzes often and 3 hours lecture until 9 pm. Was not accessible outside of class and gave extra credit to students who came to campus during a rain storm at night.
Professor Murray can be disorganized, but her lectures are engaging. The workload is heavy, but using resources like Unstuckstudy for study prep helps manage the class. Overall, an interesting experience.
