She stepped in halfway through the semester when our first prof left. Thank goodness. I'm not sure I would have understood anything at all if she'd started the semester with us. She basically reads the book to you in class... literally. Benefit of the doubt for being rushed into the middle of a semester. Nice lady, wouldn't take again.
She is very helpful with learning the material. If you go to class and pay attention it will make the homework much easier. She has a great personality and makes class interesting. I wish she taught the second half of accounting as well.
The professor points you consistently "to the book" instead of helping with questions. After indicating I was struggling with content and that seeing the graded Homework would be helpful, she told me I could not see my graded homework.
This was a challenging class but the professor was always willing to explain things in a different way. She also has a tremendous amount of real world experience that makes accounting easier to understand.
I just finished a summer class and it was great. She provided a lot of videos and tutorials that helped with the projects. The homework and exams are all done through wiley and some students were mad that she didn't give the answer key but students try to sell answers all the time so it makes sense to me that the answer key isn't given.
Slow to grade meaning that you are working on the second part of something before you know how to you did on the first part. Clearly not happy with most of the class regarding required online discussions to include participation and content quality but poor at best feedback to individuals and slim to no ability to inspire or motivate. Stay away!
Online business class by Carolyn Pierce. So much homework. Each module has three quizzes, one exam, and 1-3 papers due. Multiply that by five modules. Grading is not released in a timely manner. Early papers aren't graded before later ones are due, yet she expects us to use her feedback. Requirements are strict. Not very inspiring or motivating.
Accounting is a hard subject! I struggled taking it online. She allows you to have a few chances on the homework, that really helped! She wants us to really learn in discussions and not just post just to get by. Other students hate this but I learned a lot. I did really well on the discussions. She provided a lot of announcements with tips.
If you ask a question, she just points you back to the book which is especially unhelpful in an online course where it's harder to have a back and forth discussion. She is also so nit picky about grading discussion posts yet never returned grades in a timely manner. If you can get As on all the homework and tests it doesn't matter, otherwise avoid.
If you want to do well, just read the instructions! She has so many announcements pretty much walking students through how to do well on the discussions. It is easy to tell that most students do not care and do not read those announcements. A lot of the other students barely make and effort and one got mad and emailed others trying to wind them up.
There are 5 modules in this class. Each one has a discussion, test, and a couple quizzes. There are only three papers for the whole semester. She posted a document she calls tips and tricks and it tells you what to do and what not to do. It was super helpful. I aced all the papers and discussions because she tells you how to do well. Easy class.
Class ends on Saturday, I have all of my work turned in and expect to get an A. Class was easy, mostly papers, other than easy test and quizzes, but they were interesting. I actually learned a lot more than I expected to.
Class just ended. I don't usually rate professors but I learned so much in this class. This is the first time I have ever seen actual discussions in an online class. We had to actually work and think. The quizzes and homework and exams were easy and the discussions made you apply what you learned, but you could choose your topic. I like that.
I learned more than I thought I was going to. She gives lots of feedback. It was easy to make changes and do better. She has extra credit at the beginning of the semester. It totally helped me out. And she gave another extra credit assignment at the end of the semester and I did that to. I got a A in the class.
Lots of feedback on work that was not auto graded. Pretty easy, I like the topics for the discussions and papers. I learned quite a bit more than I thought I would.
Towards the end of the semester a few students were ganging up on the instructor and posting things in discussion boards and emailing others in the class without the instructor knowing. These people need to grow up. Instructions are clear. Feedback is detailed and more than anyone has provided. She is an amazing instructor and I learned so much.
I reached out to her all semester and she was very responsive. She is very clear with expectations and has a lot of tips for how to do good on the work. I have never received so much feedback and it told me exactly how to do better. I will take her again. One of my friends took the same class with someone else and they didn't get much feedback.
I was going through some things this semester and reached out to the teacher a lot. She is very caring and understanding and really helped me. She tells you exactly how to do well and gives a lot of feedback. She is great.
Most understanding and caring professor I have had in a long time. Understands when people are going through hard times and motivates us to try hard. She gives clear feedback so you can do better.
This was my second semester with Dallas Pierce. I am trying to take more classes with her. She makes everything clear. She is very responsive and will respond to emails right away or even stay after class for questions. Her lectures are clear and we work through problems together on another day. You really learn a lot.
She treats her students with respect and jokes around with students. She does her best to help everyone, but accounting is one of those difficult classes. The professor points you to the book, videos, and her office hours. She offers extra credit to help students bump up their grades. This is my 2nd semester with her and I enjoy her classes.
Pierce is a great professor. She does what she can to help you succeed and wants you to reach your goals. Very kind and accommodating prof, not many teachers have her patients. Accounting is a hard class use all your resources, tutors, textbook, etc ... In-person is recommended would never take this class online. Read your textbook from day one.-ks
She was very mean and a hard grader, she does not help you to help you pass, she was not a very good teacher to learn from.
Hard to get a hold for before assignments are due.
Professor Pierce is an amazing teacher, she is fun and likes to joke around. Accounting can be a hard course, but if you the effort into and ask for help, she is more than happy to explain and take the time to help. I would without a doubt take another course with Professor Pierce if I could. By far my favorite professor!
Professor Pierce is GREAT-she is kind, caring, intelligent, knowledgeable & accessible. Truly not enough good things to say about her. Accounting is really difficult class but Professor Pierce lightens the blow a little bit. If you show up & work hard in this class, you will certainly be rewarded. I wish I could take her for more classes!
Attend ALL of the class sessions and really put in some effort and you will definitely do well! She is very fair as a grader and brought positivity and good energy to every lecture; I'd definitely take again with her. It is still a tougher class however, so be sure to choose other classes taken with accounting 1021/1022 carefully!
Lectures are important. There's plenty of material at your disposal. Tests are a lot, but it is easy to prep. She is a wonderful teacher and is helpful and responsive to questions and concerns. You do need to take initiative as a student; otherwise, you will fall behind. Wiley is sometimes an unpleasant platform, but that is out of her control.
1022 is a different flavor than 1021. Material is not as cohesive as 1021's. Nonetheless, Pierce does well to be helpful, teach well, and provide plenty of resources. Everything you need is somewhere. Tests can be a lot, but there are many resources. Projects are tough, but it is good to be challenged. Be nice, they're made from scratch every time.
Great teacher.
I struggle with the material quite a bit in this class, as it's a heavy workload and a lot of information. However, Professor Pierce takes the time to meet outside of class if you are having any troubles and does her best to make sure the students understand it. Definitely goes the extra mile. Great professor.
Ms. Pierce is very good at helping students understand the material. She uses real life examples. She has a great sense of humor too! I have takes 3 courses with her so far and have registered for more!
To understand the textbook, you will need to show up to class! She breaks it down for you to understand better. Read the chapter before showing up to class, and when you go to class, she teaches the material to help you better understand. She is a wonderful teacher with a wonderful personality! You won't regret taking her class.
This professor was very hard to get a hold of. She wouldn't respond to emails for weeks. Tests were so hard and confusing. Would not recommend.
The course work is fast and takes time to memorize. Put in the time and effort if you expect to pass. Class discussions and in class work is best for this course. The professor keeps class lighthearted and group conversations are encouraged to solve complex problems. Highly recommend this professor.
She is a good teacher and will assist if asked. Has extra work outside of class and will not always respond to emails in a timely manner. Friendly and has fun every class.
The class, meaning the content is hard if you do not put the time and effort into it. She does a great job of explaining and show examples of whatever chapter we are going over. I would take this class in person. I feel you get a lot more out of the in person lectures. She is funny and makes accounting tailorable.
Pierce is great at explaining the chapter, but it is a lot, and the homework is challenging.
She's so funny and you will have fun every class. However, this class is very time consuming homework and studying wise. She's also very strict about deadlines.
Ms. Pierce is a great teacher overall. Accounting is very challenging and takes lots of study and effort to do well in this class but Ms. Pierce was very caring and helpful to prepare us as much as possible. She has a really good sense of humor to keep the mood light but also gets serious and the tests/grading is hard so study and do all work.
Professor Pierce is one of a kind. Even though I had a tough semester with accounting she made it bearable. I just don't get accounting. I wish I had her for other classes because her way of teaching and connecting with the students is impeccable.
My favorite professor through college! She knows what they are talking about and is willing to take the time to ensure you understand the material. Moreover, her sense of humor makes a subject like accounting fun. This was my most difficult class in college and I don't know if I would have made it without her instruction.
Professor Pierce was really an amazing professor, she had a great structure for the class and clear understanding of the course herself. Which really helped learning the material, as long as you studied and did the extra credit provided it really easy a decent class.
The class was difficult but Professor Pierce made each lecture engaging which helped.
Great professor! Make sure to do all the homework/extra credit before the tests and you'll ace the class!
She is nice and likes to joke around sometimes, but she is always ready to keep going. She is very respectful to her students, but the class is a difficult class.
She does try to break the material down but often ends up confusing the students more. She does not respond to emails in a timely manner and does offer extra credit but it takes quite a while to do.
She claims it takes so long to grade to provide personal feedback on each assignment, but the feedback is reread chapter X. Despite getting a 79% on the final, she gave me a 33% on "her" final unit test. Ironically, retook the class the very next semester and received a 98%. Save your time and money and find another professor.
probably one of THE WORST professors at Pikes Peak State College. She does not get back to you in a timely manner, when you ask for help she is never there or confuses you even more. save your money and take the class with someone else. I HIGHLEY STATE THAT YOU WILL NOT PASS THIS CLASS.
Very willing to explain things that are not understood. The course itself is fast paced but she explained things well and ask questions to make sure you have an understanding.
Attending the lectures is important, but honestly reading the textbook and watching the videos attached to the homeworks is a lot more important for doing assingments.
There's a lot of work in and out of lecture. She's very supportive and kind.
Professor Pierce is very knowledgeable about her courses and does a great job of explaining martial. However, missing even one class can be detrimental. I would suggest be prepared to ask any questions in person because she is very difficult to reach via email, even during the week. She is also a very slow grader on papers and exams.
Great professor would definitely recommend!
This was so much better than accounting 1021 in so many ways. The biggest thing in this class is homework and the extra credit for the assignments. Get ready to dedicate a lot of time to work, but it will pay off more than tests do. Always ask the questions though, you will need to understand fully to pass.
She is fun and makes this difficult class worth taking.
I liked her class, she's a great teacher.
A good instructor overall.
Overall a great instructor.
Great professor!
The course is not easy, but Professor Pierce made it as accessible as possible. In class, we thoroughly analyzed each topic and applied the knowledge in practice. A wealth of material was provided to help understand the complex work of an accountant.
Accounting 1011 is a tough class. Prof Pierce was great at explaining the reasoning behind the principles and was able to connect the principles to real life situations. Prof Pierce was difficult to meet with outside of class time.
Prof. Pierce has 2 profiles. This is the 1 or 2nd semester PPCC offered the new ACC1011. Prof is well experienced in ACC with great lectures. Course is faster pace than expected, no buffer for canceled class. No flexibility on homework, its due Saturday. Writing assignments are bit ambiguous but overall great core class.
The class is going to be difficult, but Carolyn Pierce really knows her stuff and can help you every step of the way. You get what you put in effort wise, so don't believe these reviews saying everyone fails. Most people get a B, you just have to study, participate, and care. And Pierce is the best.
Class is hard but well worth it she explains everything well and she's always available when you need help.
Goes through topics ensuring people are following and understanding what is being taught. This is a difficult class but she will answer any questions you have.
She really cares about her students. She also has a great positive attitude and is good at explaining advanced concepts. Put in the effort, and you will be rewarded!
The course material is difficult. Professor Pierce presents the material very well. She is patient with students and maintains a positive attitude.
Great teacher! Lectures were extremely helpful because she was able to explain the concepts well. The format of the class was great. I liked how we went over the chapters and then did practice problems.
Prof. Pierce does an excellent job of teaching each lecture and creating a great framework that the textbook supplements. Each concept is explained in detail and she sets aside time for the class to practice where the students are challenged to attempt practice problems together and get a chance to explore questions that are revealed during work.
She is a great professor and wants everyone to succeed!
Ms. Pierce is overall a very knowledgeable, caring and good teacher. This is a very difficult class so be sure to do all the homework and study for the tests. This professor is very strict with late work and will give you a zero if you miss a test for any reason so be careful not to let that happen. She does give extra credit too so do it early on.
Such a great instructor. DO NOT take accounting online or with Breitbal. Take it with Pierce. If you miss class, you will not learn. She lectures one day with McGraw Hills PowerPoint, other day is going over problems in class with her. She is available online and in person for extra help. She really wants you and helps you succeed.
This class is challenging but very passable. Show up, do all the work, including the extra credit, and study, and you will be ok. She makes sure you understand the material, so ask questions.
Professor Pierce is a good professor overall. She is a kind grader on most of the assignments, but a tough grader on tests. She offers a good chunk of extra credit that you should take full advantage of. The Excel assignments are very particular about how stuff must be entered and can be a massive pain.
She has an awesome personality! I really like her. The class was difficult, but she did tell us at the beginning of the semester it would be. I feel like the class should have been longer than an hour and fifteen minutes so we could have had enough time to go over everything in class.
Accounting's tough but she makes it bearable.
Extra credit opportunities, takes her time explaining material.
Professor Pierce was a great teacher. This semester was hard but somehow we got through it. Professor Pierce is tough but she is funny and knows how to keep the class engaged. This semester was rough but as long as you put in the work you will succeed in her class.
Explain material, gives feedback, practice problems in the class , answer questions
From the start, she did mention that it was going to be difficult, and indeed it was. Ask questions if you don't understand, she will make sure you get your questions answered! Communication is key, and she is good at that, too. I would recommend doing the extra credit. It is a good way to get more practice in!
Carolyn is sooo funny and helpful. In class she will answer questions with other questions which I think is very beneficial to our learning. Attendance is not mandatory but STRONGLY advise you to go to every single class. Everyday you learn so much that you will be tested on. Test are in person. But Prof Pierce makes going to class enjoyable!
Prof. Pierce does a great job of making Accounting interesting and relatable to the real world. Lectures are clear and easy to participate in. Her number one goal is to build understanding which is great because it helps concepts stick!
Prof. Pierce is incredibly knowledgeable in all chapters covered in this class. She provides lectures with slides and makes the curriculum very easy to understand. Extra credits are often times a reflection of exams, which are helpful if done the night before. I have done both ACC1011 and ACC1012 with Prof. Pierce and received A's in both.
She's a great professor. However, I feel like we aren't exactly taught what is on the test. Close to it but the wording almost always is quite different compared to how we are taught it.
The class can be difficult unless you attend. Doing the extra credit assignments will help you prepare for exams.
Does a lot of practice problems and provides online resources, however is not overly willing to work with students on things especially outside of class. Good relations to the real world thought and always tried to restate things different ways in class for everyone to understand.
She offered plenty of extra credit opportunities, so if you struggle a little with the material, I would strongly recommend completing those. As long as you do the homework and projects, you can afford to do a little worse on tests and pass with a good grade. Overall, she made Accounting 1012 much easier to understand than anticipated.
I would definitely make sure you go to this class in person because the lectures are very helpful. Do all the assigned work because they will help you on the test. She also offers extra credit which helps if you do not do well on the test.
What a headache, good luck getting her to actually help you with any information she just states that you should see the information provided. I read and watched everything accessible to me, basically taught myself the entire semester. Feedback is "important to succeed" but doesn't provide any in a timely matter then blames you. Avoid her.
Short word allowance here are bullet points: I am older, full-time online,GPA 3.8, will graduate f/ PPSC&UCCS. This professor is terrible. Expect no help, emails, tests, papers, projects will go unanswrd & ungraded. My 1st email req. for help understdng material, she accused me just wanting answers and "use tools available-Google,Youtube" Good luck
You will be waiting weeks to get graded work back. Class doesn't flow together. The assigned material did not make me feel prepared for the tests or to complete the projects. So stressful. You are often told to "Google it," or look it up on YouTube instead of just being provided resources. Took a month to grade one of my assignments.
Instructor Dallas was highly prepared and knowledgeable in the Accounting field. She explained complex topics. Her teaching style was engaging and supported different learning styles, which helped me feel more confident in the course. She also encouraged questions and provided helpful feedback throughout the semester.
Complex subject, but she is a great teacher. Take good notes, study, and do the extra credit.
Professor Pierce has a very well-structured course, where she teaches a concept and then leads the class through applying it. For example, she would teach what an income statement is, then teach you how to create one. This made the course predictable and easy to follow, which was very nice.
She really knows her material and explains concepts clearly. She makes class fun by keeping everyone engaged and asking questions as we go through lessons and during review. Her sense of humor and teaching style made learning a lot easier. I definitely recommend taking her class!
She's honestly really funny and helpful, she just wants to see her students succeed, but you've got to meet her halfway. Homework, extra credit, and tests stay pretty consistent, and the project and essay are not bad at all, just give yourself some time, and do the EC. She is quick to respond and always available after class for extra questions.
Lots of details to learn. In class participation is a must. Take lots of notes & do practice problems to pass. Tests difficult as no idea what's specifically on them. Need to know everything! Lectures taught by the textbook- not sure what need to keep in memory for real world application.
She breaks down complex topics, like journal entries and accruals, into easy-to-understand steps. She uses great, relevant examples that actually stick. She is always checking in with the class and making sure that we understand what she is teaching.
I have NEVER had such a bad experience with a professor before. Maybe it's because it's an online class but even then, being told a spacebar is too stressful for you is just plain unprofessional. Starting off with Mcgraw Hill is already a sign youre going to struggle a bit. But be prepared because the exam space is NOT accounting friendly.
Great professor for a difficult class. Definitely wish we had more time in class to go over the material but that is far from her fault. The amount of homework is necessary and meant for learning the material. Just wish it was not so much at breakneck speed, especially if you are struggling or slower at learning the material than the class speed.
