Her grading schemes are not for her students to pass. If she doesn't like you, she will fail you.

Seriously, I had 68% she gave me a D, did not want to help me earn the extra 2%. It's an 8 week course, If you dont answer the discussion question the way she wants she takes points off. She's awful. Won't help at all, No sympathy for anyone. RUN, don't take her. this is why WLAC sucks. Teachers like this, who collect their paycheck and dont care.

This was the first time this class was offered at Wlac. Prof Canales made things totally unclear, no outline for group project, and didn't teach the class anything, Most of the class complained because of their low test scores, but was unwilling to say anything. DO NOT...I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS take it elsewhere.

WORSE PROF. AT WLAC. She's an over achiever and expects the students to be as well. If you want to maintain your g.p.a. I recommend that you NOT take any of her Psych classes. Take them elsewhere.

Bad, unmotivated, accusing and uninspirational. Easy A, but terrible instruction because there is none.

Other than being rude, I don't have much to say about her. If you do not agree with her, you will get a very low score if any score at all.

It is one thing to be passionate about your subject but this lady is an overachiever!! Basically if you do not write what is in her head you will not get any credit. The research paper had so many restrictions it was pointless to write!!

I had an online class with her last summer and i got B, but i studied very hard for this course and my friend who has a PHD helped me a lot and even once he helped me in a discussion which he believed was perfect but she gave me C. i got 89 and 90 is A but she gave me B. I think she is not a normal person..

She's nice but her class is tough, especially with essays and quizzes.

Don't bother asking questions before an exam because you'll be more confused than before you asked. She pretends to encourage you to visit her during her office hours, but she makes you feel even less welcomed when you make time to get there. Some of the questions on the exams are opinion-based and you better agree with her opinion.

By mid-semester, I realized that she was more of a complainer. She didn't give much feedback for the first half, then started complaining that students weren't going through the modules and other things. My research paper was the kicker. When I questioned her comments on my paper, she changed her reasons. Never being specific.

HORRIBLE TEACHER!! First week started off awful, barely added into the class the day after the 1st assignment was due, (even though I was enrolled before the 1st day) and she would not let me make assignment up regardless. Throughout the course there was problem after problem with her. Very rude, especially if you don't agree with her.

UNFAIR IN ALL WAYS!!! I completed EVERY assignment and then tells me I didn't take a test (without proof) and proceeds to give me an overall grade I did not deserve! I will never take her again and will advise everyone I know to avoid her class if your grade depends on it

As a psychology major who has taken every psych course available at LACCD; her personality ruined the material for me. Professor is type-A & diagnosed herself with OCPD. I agree with others:complains a lot, believes students are inferior& very rigid. Read the book and don't argue, she WILL remember students who criticized her & mention it later on.

Was my first semester and my first online class ever. She totally ruined for me. I would never take her again. Online or in class.

I recommend you don't take her. She doesn't communicate, she lets the online class run itself, modules are long, she didn't explain in the syllabus MindTap must be purchased. I sense she does not care for the online class. She's inaccessible & isn't online. So I had to drop her course. I'm upset about that & never will take her again!!! ����

She is literally the worst professor I've ever had. She's lazy. Doesn't answer your questions thoroughly. Very defensive, almost like she likes to argue with student online. Literally learned NOTHING from her, everything is pretty much self taught. I kid you not, you could be dying with proof and she wouldn't give you an extension on an assignment.

Get ready to read, books are expensive and she doesn't give extra credit.

Her expectations are not in line with her effort. She does not put effort into her "lectures" which are actually just information copied and pasted into the canvas shell module pages. She doesn't even make a powerpoint or change the fonts to match. Yet, she expects a minimum of 30 sentences for discussion posts.

I would not recommend her to anyone! She expected a lot during this COVID pandemic. I would not have a problem with a class that requires a lot of work but I basically had to teach myself the material as there were no online meetings. She is VERY picky about what she wants and makes things overly complicated! Take this class with someone else!

The worst Professor ever! Be careful! Do not pick her! She does not care about students. Impossible grader! She presents the material in a confused way! I wanted to major in Psychology, but she killed my interest! I wish I read all her reviews before took her class!

I dont recommend her! Sheik the worst! I had to drop the class because she decided to give a low grade for my paper without clear explanation what I did wrong! Even thou all my exams and quizzes were As. She hates when you ask the questions. She responded to saying please read the instructions, it says everything! Choose a someone else!!!

Prof. Canales, Just don't take her She is very conniving and replies back to emails in a snarly way.. makes you feel stupid. we basically had to teach ourselves, she has no zoom meeting or lectures and makes you read everything. After the first exam i asked if i could see what i missed and she said no? Like huh?

Took her as my first college course during high school and kind of ruined my impression of a college course. Especially as this was just an introductory class to Psych. I was really interested in the field but made me hate it. Tough grader, criticizes & exposes every little mistake in your work. Tests were in protocol mode.

The worst professor ever! She is a psychology teacher but can't seem to value students' stress and anxiety. She sucks. I should've dropped her when I had the chance. I hope she sees these ratings and decides to change because no one should have her.

I dont recommend her period. Terrible teacher with terrible teaching ethics. She is very distant in her online course and doesnt teach anything, just the books and the modules. She reads everything, which is good, but is very strict.

I repeat do not take she extemely horrible with online assignments gives wrong due date and extemely strict even if she the one who made an error.

For being the director of the addictions studies program you would think she would be better organized and helpful to her students. If you are taking addiction studies she is the only professor that teaches this class. I would NOT take her for anything else. There are some really good psych prof. at WLAC but she is not one of them.

The most ridiculously challenging class I have ever taken in community college, and I have taken 60. I would be shocked if more than one student got an A.

I repeat do not take her for any class. I enrolled in two of her classes and it was the worst decision Ive ever made. For her being a psychologist she sure do not care about the well-being or mental health of her students. I ended up in a hospital from Covid and sent her proof and asked for an extension she said no exceptions to make up an exam.

I have taken her class 3 times! I thought it was something I was doing wrong for a while. I had her class during a mental breakdown of mine after the loss of my mother. I put all the effort I could into it and I did really well in my other classes despite my struggles. DON'T TAKE HER CLASS

This lady has no idea how to teach, she is very rude, she has no communication skills; She uses her poor psychology studies to ABUSE her students with her POWER and Control, she also wants to demand a lot, worse than the ARMY, she is vindictive, visceral and a terrible person.

Carrie Canales NEED It urgently needs to be diagnosed by psychiatrists and psychologists. urgently!!!! Even her penetrating and deep gaze shows her frustration and desire to be a tyrant, when she twists her mouth and compresses it etc.

Please prevent this woman from continuing to teach, it may be her children who are affected in her professional career! AVOID IT! We have never met a psychologist who has a mental disorder, she is a compulsive addictive narcissist, Super-Ego and desire to ruin people's lives! It's time to protect ourselves among the students.

Horrible,NEVER AGAIN DONT DO IT tests are timed and you must have an extension downloaded that shares your screen with her during tests so using the book or google is out of the window I think she thinks her class is an ap class or honors class it not but the work definitely feels like it I wish I read these reviews before enrolled never again

Biggest "bruh" moment I've had with a professor. She literally grades by sentences (not by words or pages like a normal professor) and expects you to spend your life on each discussion. She also managed to change my 4-page essay to a "2.1-page" essay by formatting it with weird spacing, and all the journal articles had to be approved by her. bruh.

NEVER TAKE HER CLASS!!! I wanted to drop out the whole time and it was not worth it in the end. I will say out of a class of 30, maybe 5 will be leaving happy and retaining info. If you don't have at least 2 hours to study every night just choose a diff professor. Good luck to those taking her and have fun with those two paragraphs :)

She uses a face-tracking software that quit the exams if you so much as scratch your head. Prof Canales is just not worth the headache for an intro Psych class. Hard to contact too. Only after taking other professors I realize psychology is not as inaccessible or as difficult as she made it. Have some self-respect and try other options.

This Canales is a chameleon, she appears to be good, but it is the opposite, she is abusive, she does not prepare her classes, look at the rating in West College. What's going on? don't take class with her

My experience, like the others, was horrible. This lady does not know how to teach, she has no skills and it was very difficult to bear her. For all this, Mrs. Canales has terrible comments from all those who have passed through her hands. You have to believe most of the lousy percentage she has, even if it is bad.

You don't understand anything about this lady, she doesn't know how to explain and demands too much, she is also rude and temperamental. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW IN THE USA THEY CAN ALLOW PEOPLE LIKE THIS IN A SCHOOL?

Avoid this professor at all costs. How she managed to make an Intro to Psych class as difficult as she did is beyond reprehensible. I've never been so terrified to share my own experiences in a class and I almost changed my major to avoid having to take another psych class again; she's that bad. Do yourself a favour: take Jain, just trust me.

This class was terrible, the teacher doesn't know how to explain, she gets confused and is not prepared for how much it demands.

Unfortunately there are very BAD teachers and they don't know how to teach a class, my worst experience was this class. I won't go back to her.

My experience was Terrible and I had to leave a class that had never had such a bad time as with this Narcissistic and controlling teacher. It was my worst year at WEST College.

It was a nightmare trying to take this class. It is not organized, the Sylabus is not CLEAR or complete and the teacher has no idea what she is doing. That's why I had to leave.

Taking class with Canales was my worst decision. I had 4 pages of written work reduced to 2 and got poor markings on the paper. Out of my entire class, the highest grade on it was a 75/100! No leeway in anything. If you mess something up you get scolded and no chance to learn from a mistake. Not an understanding person by any means. dont take!

she doesn't seem to care if you learn the information needed, only cares if your not cheating everything is youtube videos no lecture , no real engagement to help you understand from her just assignment grades and getting accused of cheating when she doesn't see the answer she wants. i only missed 2 assignments and failed.

Canales has no skills at all to teach, she wants to be an authoritarian, and no one can stop her. For now, taking classes with her is the worst experience, don't do it!!

This professor is absolutely horrid. Her lectures are not informative or engaging, it made it hard to stay engaged at all. Consistently showing a lack of consideration for students. If you want to have a terrible educational experience, perhaps you should take her as your professor.
