Shes a good teacher but her reviews dont match the test like she says they do. I would of stayed in the class but she didnt come to the meeting she set up with me.
Her tests were way off from the review. My advice to you for this class would be to start each review as you learn each chapter and spend lots of time studying. Because you will definately need to study. You can not get by easily in this class!
She is a very hard professor. Found her test to be very hard and not related to her notes at all. Need to plan to study alot. Overall she is a very nice lady, but tough on her lecture test.
Her tests did not match the subject matter.
She can be a nice lady for the most part. She knows a lot about Biology...but definately do NOT take her class. She'll teach you all kind of information, some of it very interesting..but hardly any or it will be on her test. Not recommended.
Her reviews only throw students off. You'll be better off not even getting the review. Her lab practicals are awful... Much worse than the lecture tests. No matter, she shouldnt be teaching the beginning Biology courses.
A&P is not an easy class. That being said, I think she did a great job teaching it. I never had a problem with her tests not matching her lectures. This class has a lot of info, but she teaches it well!!
she's a good teacher at times but I failed all the tests and dropped as well as many other..so u be the judge
I believe she is a nice person.I believe that her reviews do not go with her tests. So don't bother. I don't believe she presents material in a clear manner. This is my 2nd time around in her class, and I am still relying on someone else to help me understand it. Last time I figured it was my fault.
This Damm Class, Although I took this class almost a year ago, Is still has a an effect on me, because it really damaged my GPA. Do not take this class. I passed with a C, but most people either drop, or meet their doom with a flunking grade. Take my Wise Words people. [email protected]
Avoid at all cost. She suck!!!!!!!!!! really bad. During her lecture, she is going make you crazy by making you write continuously for 2 hours. She does not expalin anything just read from the screen and the even the stupid screen is so blurry. She is stupid. stupid , stupid........................
I liked her a lot as a person, but didn't enjoy her class. She could make it much easier on her students if she chose to, and even considering that this is no-coddling college, her lectures were grueling and her tests stressful.
great teacher, very nice, highly recommended.bio 1406 is hard, lots of material, you have to study, don't expect to walk through it. i've never had a problem with the class material not matching test material, in fact,i haven't opened my book at all and still made A/B's on all tests.just don't slack off
this lady is great! she is probably the best teacher i've had in college. bio 1406 and 7 are hard and have lots of info, but she teaches it well, and you have to study, otherwise you will have a bad experience and end up complaining. i made a B in 1406 and an A in 1407, thanks to the reviews.
The worst teacher to take in Bio. Such a snotty attitude. Hated every minute of it!!!!
she taught me in high school. she was great then and shes great now. her class is hard as hell, but i enjoyed her class. but don;t pay any attention to her reviews, they will throw you off terribly. just study your notes.
I had to drop her. Her class and the book did not get together at test time. She's only good if you had her for High School. She did not help me but instead in front of the whole class she told me to drop and try Zoology instead. Very disappointed after all I was paying to be there.
This was the hardest class ever. She's not a horrible person just not the best teacher ever. You just copy notes and take tests. It is very hard.
Overall, the class was extremely hard and she admitted that she is not an easy A. She is rude and too vain. If the class, as a whole, does well on an exam, she will make the next tests even more difficult.
its not a blow off class. you have to study!!but thats college. the tests are from the notes and she tells you exactly whats going to be tested over. study and you will pass!!!!
Hughes gives very difficult test that donot pertain to what she goes over in class. You basically readf the whole chapter she's going over and ignore what she teaches. She is a very nice lady though
this class requires alot of self studing i find it interesting must be able to apply information not just "spit back facts" i would choose her as professor again
This is the hardest class I have taken so far. I am an honor roll student and have trouble passing her tests. Her questions try to confuse you. If you are majoring in and like Biology you might like her - if you just need a Science class don't take her! I do not recommend her at all! And I agree - she is rude and demeaning.
If you do not study your notes, you will not pass easily. This class was very hard for me and I was even a high school honor graduate. This professor will not even give you an extra point, for example, I was about to pass with a B, but she gave me a C. I was only missing two points. Lab tests are very hard. In order to pass her lab tests, you have
This teacher is very nice. Her tests are very hard and very detailed. I made an A, but would not take her again. Her tests are very long, with lots of which of the following are NOT true. Tests are writen in paragraph form, hard to read. 6-8 answers for each question. I thought they didn't test my knowledge, just hard.
I found her to be difficult to approach. Her tests were tricky. I would not take her again. In fact, I would not recommend taking A&P at the central campus.
She was really nice but her testing was very difficult. Her questions and answers for the test were in paraghaph form and she gives so many choices it confuses you!! I would not take her again!!
I don't know what these other people are whining about. She is a really nice/helpful lady.Lec tests come from the notes.Lab tests R hard but not impossible. This is not highschool, U must study. Her classes are way easier than any science class at UH.If u want to be successful in school/life, take her and U will be prepared, if U R stupid, don't
I took her summer a&p class. She is a good professor. I will take her again if she teaches a class I need. The lecture tests are 75-85 multi. choice qu. w/ a few bonus qu. All the questions come from the class notes. The lab tests are the harder, but u just need to study for them. A&P is a hard class, but it is good practice for nursing school
good professor, would take again.
She is a good teacher, just dont miss class!! Take plenty of notes too.
She is the best teacher!!! i mean yea the calss IS hard, but that's because it's bilogy...there is a lot of info that you have to cover and if you don't get it you fail, that goes for every class you take in college. Besies, inbiology if you miss a class is obvious you will be lost the next day we cover like a chapter or two e/day. But she is reall
Great professor, difficult subject. She is always willing to help you to do good in her class. Don't skip class. Take good notes. You should study hard for the lab tests. Do all this and you will be fine.
A terribly hard teacher. For some reason I hated this class. Her class was the only biology class out of 6 that I've taken, that I had a problem in. Her test questions are wild and her reviews are misleading. The whole class agreed to stop using her reviews even as a study aid.

STOP!! don't take this professor if you want to major in Bio or just want to take it b/c you have to. Worst professor. She does't teach, she reads!! Her reviews are ambiguous. Hence, when you take the tests, it's nothing like the review. Her labs are just ridiculous. Don't take her. Go to south and take mrs.plunkett!!
Stop. Don't take her. She reads off the notes<< Only thing she does. She does not teach but I know someone who you will love. She is in South campus. Yes, it may be 15 minutes away, but it's worth it. You will simply love Biology there. Her name is Mrs. Plunkett. Super easy tests! Take your math and sciences at South.
Her class is not that difficult. The lecture tests are easy, but only if you go to class EVERYDAY and copy down the powerpoints. She ONLY reads off the slides, very boring. The lab tests are hard. You have to go to lab and really pay attention. Overall, she is a mediocre teacher. She knows the material, but doesn't convey it well especially in lab.
I took her for A&P 1 and 2 during the summer. In my opinion she is a good teacher. Her lecture tests are pretty easy. I never made below a B on them and I didn't study that much. You HAVE to sho
I don't know what everyone is complaining about. No one said anatomy was easy! She is really a great teacher! You really should take her. Out of the other anatomy teachers at central she is definetly one of the better ones!
Had Bio II and she is by far one of the worst professors at San Jac. She JUST READS her notes. She DOES NOT explain and her tests are not easy and lack clarity. I am a Bio major. Trust me when I say to take all of your Bio classes at South!!! Take Mrs.Plunkett or Wiskerda!!
If you are wanting to actually learn something, this teacher is the way to go. She can answer any question you ask her and if she doesnt know the answer she will find out by the next day! You cant miss a lecture because her tests are based off her powerpoint. Very interesting class, however, if you are looking for an easy A, look somewhere else!
Mrs. Hughes was a great teacher. I'm sure I could have studied more, but I'm glad I got a "B" Biology is just hard anyway, but she tried to make it more interesting. And she does offer extra credit when needed.
pretty basic, people. if she's reading off the notes and you don't understand...ASK HER. she wont bite your head off. i absolutely hated and dreaded bio before i had this professor and now i actually look forward to it. carrie hughes is a good professor who genuinely loves what she does. anyone who says otherwise is just bitter about their grade.
She is really cool!
If you can't take notes it will be difficult. This is a good class to practice note taking. Use a recorder if you are not practiced. Take notes of her lecture not her power point. Review, skim, your notes daily and this class is an easy A with little outside of class preparation. She enjoys what she does and it shows in her classes. You will learn
Still taking her, she seems like a good teacher and will explain things more as long as you ASK! Be sure to get a seat in the front middle of the class, you cant see otherwise. Is easy so far, but only because my high school Bio AP classes and Anatomy classes were well taught. dont know about her tests yet. to the guys, lots of women in the class!
Good teacher. willing to help you if you ask. Not really an easy class but if you put a little effort you can get an A. Gives you reviews for every test and the final. Very nice teacher.
I thought Ms. Hughes was an excellent teacher and lecturer. Be prepared to take notes at a rapid pace. Tests are tough but very fair if you put in the time to study. I learned so much and never dreamed A&P would be my favorite class.
Mrs. Hughes is amazing once you get to know her. You have to work hard to earn your A but she gives really helpful reviews for tests. I would definitely recommend a study group with any science class.
No doubt she knows the material, but she doesn't make the best presentation of it. Don't take her night class, she makes it clear she wants to go home during lab. Pretty helpful if you ask her, though.
She's a great teacher. VERY helpful! She is very clear on what she expects of you as a student and gives clear exam reviews for each test. If you study and pay attention, there's no reason why you won't do well.
Doesn't stay constant with her own reviews. Sends reveiw for test on Blackboard, tells you to study it, then come test day the questions do NOT synch up with the review. Nice and helpful teacher, but test are very confusing even if you sutdy review.
She's a great teacher. Very informative. Takes notes. She's awesome at lab and is so helpful. She also offers bonuses on lecture test. Made the class very interesting
She is a really nice and informative teacher. Her tests are kind of hard tho because the test doesnt follow the review at all. She does give a lot of extra credit and she contributes a lot of time to review for tests. She is a very helpful teacher
Shes a really good teacher but unless you love taking notes do not take her.
Great Teacher! Test Reviews, very helpful, Not that much extra credit, you have to put some effort to pass. Overall great professor and very nice!
I took A&P with her and I studied super hard for everything and i still didn't do well. If you want to learn something and get good grades don't take her she is a horrible teacher and enjoys failing her students.
I took A&P with her and I studied hard and still didn't do well. If you want to learn something and do well don't take her she is a horrible teacher and enjoys failing her students. She thinks reading her notes and not explaining anything is teaching. Her reviews are crap she makes sure to ask questions that aren't on the review. The WORST!!!!!
I took her for patho online. I agree w the other person, that said she enjoys making things hard & does NOT work with students at all. It is not about learning the material w/ her, it is about being petty, anal retentive and rigid. Her tests are ridiculous, never had a teacher that gives 8 choices for each question, rather than the standard 4.
Well the review is useless in that class. Prob the only teacher I have ever had that her teat questions have 8 different answers. So even if you study your tail off you still might get confused on a test question.
Well the review is useless in that class. Prob the only teacher I have ever had that her teat questions have 8 different answers. So even if you study your tail off you still might get confused on a test question.
I just finished her online Patho class and I thought that the class was very good. She gives you online assisnments and online quizzes. On the quiz, you get 2 chances at them, so that is an easy A. All her exams are right off her notes. Study your notes, and you can pass her exams. I maintained a high B up to the final, then made an A on the final.
I took her for Bio 1402,the only complain would have to be that she words her test unexpectedly
Her tests do NOT coincide with her reviews AT ALL. She is very intelligent and competent. However, she is incredibly fast paced and her test format is terrible. The labs are fairly easy. I ended up dropping the class and when i left alot of SCIENCE MAJORS in the class were borderline failing. AVOID HER.
Good Teacher..!
Very nice teacher... I didn't have any homework, either you take the class seriously and study on your own or you don't read over your notes and text and you fail.
If you're interested in biology, and actually like to learn the material and apply yourself, then Hughes is great for you. But if you're lazy and want to take some "easy filler class" then you shouldn't be in here. Mrs. Hughes can really teach you a lot about biology, and she knows what she's talking about and expects the best from her student.
Material received was too much for a NON SC major so many terms inconsistent questions and expectations out of context.College is to study hard but this class was a different story. Professor seemed to be a good instructor though. Take her if you have to. Be prepared. I Took Online Course. Awful tests, Gives extra credit though, kinda "easy" labs
Most awesomeness A&P teacher. Enough said.
Best teacher ever!!! She makes you even imagine any biological process that she explains. Too clear
She is the best teacher ever!!! She will make you understand everything that is in the book. GUYS, WE ARE IN COLLEGE ALREADY! STOP BEING IRRESPONSIBLE! WE ARE SUPPOSED TO READ THE BOOK AND STUDY BY OURSELVES. WE HAVE TO BE AUTONOMOUS! THIS IS NOT HIGH SCHOOL ANYMORE! In her tests, she is not gonna ask you something that she hasn't taught you.
She is the best teacher I've had so far! I took her for both sections of A&P, she is so helpful and explains everything so well. Her lecture tests come straight from her lectures, so bring a recorder it really helps for studying! Her lab practicals on the other hand are a different story,If youre good at memorizing and selfteaching you'll do great.
Excellent teacher for A&P 2301 & 2302. This are not easy classes and requires a lot of study hours including outside lab time. She is direct and to the point, but her lectures are excellent & makes herself available for questions. You must take notes, attend class & study to make the grade.
Loved her
I loved it, it's challenging and studying is a must but that's what we pay for to learn! And she will make you learn
Frist of all she takes simple concepts and drags them out over a class period often spending time in redundant conversation. Her labs are so simple they are not even graded, the most irrelevant information must be recalled for her lab practical exam's which in turn gives her a false sense of value, YOUTUBE has better professors!! Dont take her !!
I notice that people have mixed feeling about Prof. Hughes. Personally I think she is a great teacher. Her class was not difficult or super easy. Biology is a condensed course and one for science majors moves rather quickly. I would recommend her to anyone determined to major in a form of Biology, Nursing or is going to medical school like myself.
She is a great teacher! She gives clear lectures that help you understand the material. She makes reviews for both lecture and lab tests available on Blackboard, and they are very helpful. However, her exams are a bit tricky. There is also an Armand Bayou project. If you want an A in her class, attend class and study all your of notes!
Mrs. Hughes is a great lecturer, however, she is not for the faint of heart! Her tests are not correlative to the lectures or the reviews. She is stingy with extra credit. If you can ace her class, you are ready for med school. She is not very approachable and can sometimes come off as rude and very condescending and she doesn't accept hospital notes
Great teacher and knows what shes talking about, but tests are nothing like review, nothing like lectures, very tough. Not very approachable. I liked her BUT get ready to devote ALL your time to her class.
If you are a nursing student major and microbiology and pathology classes are closed and haven't taken BIOL I or II, don't this class to substitute it. One of my worse mistakes. But if you do decide to take this class i wish the best luck for you all that do.
I was Skeptical reading others posts. I must say I adored this class and teacher. The tests are correlative with the reviews. This is a Science Majors Course, so expect to study. The lectures are very good, there is no redundancy. I can truly say I enjoyed attending class, and have learned a great deal of information that is very useful.
Gives great lectures. Explains further if you still have questions. you should Record the lecture, copy what's on the PowerPoint, then go home and compare both. This will make u an A on her tests. I love her class. I've learned so much.
I took this professor in a summer mini for A&P II. Her lectures were fun, she really made the 2 hours of lecture fly by. She gives GREAT examples to help you understand more. She is so helpful. My only complaint was her reviews did not correlate with exams. However, i quickly realized if just read her lecture notes, you will pass the exam.
Professor Hughes is an outstanding professor. She is tough but if you study you will not have any problems. She makes it clear that her reviews are not an outline for the test. They are an overall of what you are learning in the class. If you study the notes from class you should pass this class!
You do not get a copy of the PP, she reads from the book and PP. Says a lot of extra things in lectures, lots of examples but are not on test. Reviews are nothing like test. Review is overall what you learned for the chapters. Asked for help and she laughed and said it's easy. Would not recommend!
She is a great professor if you have any questions about anything or unsure about something. She is always willing to help and answer questions for anybody. Her reviews are not close to the test, they are just OUTLINES. However she does let you copy the PP but you will need to take notes on your own while she talks as well. DO NOT SKIP CLASS.
Hughes is tough, but excellent teacher. As long as you pay attention in class, you're sure to pass.
Professor Hughes is fantastic! You must attend class to pass because she does not post the PP notes. She will always answer any question you have. Her lab review days are very helpful and she always lets you record the review or whatever you need. I'm not sure why the reviews says she is a hard teacher. I took her for A&P I&II, I made an A in both.
Make sure you take notes from what she says, not just what is on the powerpoint. Her tests basically come only from what is mentioned in lecture. Overall, I enjoyed the class and will try to take A & P II from her.
She's okay, currently taking her for a summer mini, but she has an attitude. Lectures and labs are what I expected, a lot of studying same as a&p I so no shocks in here. Yet, These are one of those teachers that you may feel uncomfortable if you ask a question. Overall she's alright, read your notes every night and you'll do fine in this class.
Prof. Hughes is an excellent instructor. You have to work hard for the grade you want to make. She is very approachable and will answer any questions. In labs, she explains everything multiple times when needed. If your are looking for an easy A, look elsewhere. If you truly want to learn A/P and understand the material, take her.
Hughes is strange, but her lectures are great. I have a 93 average in her class. You might be confused if you skip any lectures but if you can get someone that took notes on it you'll be fine.
The reviews are horrible. Her exams are worst. You have to know EVERY single detail of your notes. Every answer choice sounds like an obvious answer. Exams are super tricky but she denies making them like that. I love science but this professor isn't the best to take. Had to take her only because of class availability. NEVER again.
Prof. Hughes is funny and clearly has a passion for science. If you listen carefully to what she says, you will find that her tests are not too difficult. If you simply copy her PowerPoint in lecture, you will miss things things. She offers a lot of opportunity for extra credit.
Has 3 lab test, 3 lecture test, and final. Gives great lectures that are very interesting. She does give reviews for all lecture test but not for the final. Expects you to use all the reviews from the past to study for the final. Which is A LOT of info. Must study for lab test or you will fail. Lab class doesn't prepare you for the test!
Gives you homework on topics you haven't learned yet. Then finally teaches you the homework the next day after you turn it in and take 2 quizzes over it, so make sure you are studying the homework, not just doing it. SO MANY tests, once your grade starts to drop its incredibly hard to bring back up. Definitely would not take her again.
She is a wonderful teacher. This is not an easy A class you have to actually take time and study for this class but she gives extra credit opportunities through out the semester so make sure to take them. I regret not taking the chances she gave us. It would have made a difference in the letter grade i received.
She is AMAZING! She has a real talent for lecturing in a clear and understandable manner. She is so funny and inspires you to actually go to class just to hear her lecture. Tests are fair. Questions come directly from notes and lecture. I took her 4 times for 4 different classes and made an A+ in every one of them. Definite recommendation from me.
She's one of the best professors I've ever had. She makes her lectures and lab interesting and answers any questions. She has the most precise and straight forwards study guide for her tests. You must take notes on her power points and what she says if you want all the answers for her study guide. if you have questions about the study guide, ask.
take her class if you want to learn. if you want an "easy A" then you should find a different teacher because for this class you will need to use your brain. her tests and practicals r straightforward and if you actually studied for them, they shouldn't be as difficult as what other reviewers are saying. shes very helpful and WILL answer questions
Lecture test easy A, memorize EVERYTHING that comes straight from lecture and what she says in lecture. Don't USE the reviews I didn't. Lab tests is where I studied the most, go to open lab AT LEAST once a week to memorized the stuff in the lab counter. She literally says what part of the slide you NEED to know for the test. One project EASY 100.
I took Ms Hughes in the summer 5 week for Micro. She is awesome. Love the way she teaches. This is not an easy class but the way she teaches explains it allows you to easily understand. It is very important that you study and also it really helps if you read the chapter the night before the class.
This was my first science class entering college, and I stressed out a lot. She was a really funny caring professor and it was obvious she loves what she does. When getting ready to study for a test DO NOT really rely on her review. I felt as if it did not correlate with the course. Above all she was not that bad, but I wouldn't take her again.
She is a great professor and very thorough when she teaches. She will answer every question you have. Her lectures are super heavy. Be sure you write everything on the powerpoints because there is no way to revisit them. You must also take note of the extra information she mentions for each slide. She gives 5 bonus questions on each test.
She's amazing, but YOU need to write down powerpoints, she will not post them. Dont do review, memeorize the powerpoints, for lab i suggest you take good pictures. i made some powerpoints which i got good grades, ill try to post somewhere. 4 exams, one comprehensive and 3 lab exams, and one paper. AP2
Professor Hughes has a passion for what she teaches which made the class so much more interesting! I took her 5 week summer course and like every other summer course it was fast pace but if you study, show up to class and take really good detailed notes it's an easy A. Power points are not posted after and she does use mostof that info on tests
Shes funny and nice but her class is really hard. To study for the test, you need to study the lecture notes and memorize keywords, do not study the review, it will not help you at all. She doesnt provide the notes on black board, so you have to write down everything and not miss any info.
Please if you can avoid this professor ! You are basically teaching yourself ! Ive never had this experience with any of my previous science courses ! Try taking it at South ! Its worth it !!!!!
She truly enjoys what she does and it is clear that she loves her students. Microbiology is not an easy class by any means but it comes down to your study habits. She makes class extremely interesting and labs are always fun. She is very knowledgeable with all the material and can answer difficult questions on the spot. Easy A if you try hard.
I took this as an 8 week course, need to write down everything in power points, I also read the chapters. I really enjoyed the class and didnt need to push myself any harder than a regular course to do well. you need to know how you learn best and make time to read the chapter and study. Instructor was great and very helpful throughout 10/10.
This is the first semester of doing online classes because of the pandemic. No one wants to take microbio online. She made this course so difficult, she has a quiz 2 labs and 2 pre assignments due EACH WEEK. And the quizzes? Half the questions arent in the textbook. She doesnt respond to emails on the weekend either.
Listen to me. DO NOT TAKE HER. Worst prof I've EVER had & I've taken 7+ science courses that I've gotten all A's in. THERES SO MUCH WORK and she grades SO hard. Literally does NOT teach you anything. You never know what you did wrong. She doesn't give you materials to successfully teach yourself. She doesn't care about you or your grade. TRUST ME
Any other prof is better than her. Stay as far away from her as you can. I had no choice but to take her and I wish I would've waited for the next semester just to take someone else. The course is hard and she makes it so much harder than it is already is. She doesn't teach you anything. Just talks about assignments you've already submitted.
Three assignment and a pre class assignment due every week. Overall, the usual classes, so I wouldn't mind this professor, but would prefer to have a better one.
This professor was the worst ever, she didnt teach lectures online she wanted us to teach ourselves. This professor was not proficient in teaching during a pandemic at all. She was very rude when I asked for more help with lectures. Dont take her, I eventually dropped because I was making a C in her class.
