She is incredibly disorganized, she will pick a favorite group at the begining and they are the only ones that she will really pay much attention to. This is an online class where the teacher will show up only to make vague comments about your homework, a
She's working on her PhD, she's overfilled her schedule and is incredibly pompous. Don't think you even rank in her top 10 list of priorities. You'll be better of finding a different teacher or different class.
Excellent teacher always willing to help you. She works with you to make sure you get the grade you want.
She is by far one of the best teachers I have had. She is interesting, funny, and excited about the subject. Sheintegrates real life experience with the lecture so it is clear and easy to understand.
I took this online and Carrie was not very helpful and a lot of problems happened during the semester. The tests were really hard and didn't cover a lot of the reading. I got a B and worked harder than I have in any class.
I read the ratings for the online course and I had to write to defend the instructor. For the people who followed the directions she was very helpful and responsive. There were many people who blamed the instructor for their own lack of effort in class.
This professor was very helpful and really nice. She treated us like adults and held us accountable, which was hard but rewarding. I loved the content and recommend this class for people who can keep up with an online course, but not for slackers.
I was looking for Ms. Cropley in the schedule so I could take another class with her but she must be gone. She was the best teacher I've had at SBCC. I recommend her for students wherever she is now.
Made going to class a pleasant experiance. I tried to take her for 131 as well, but dropped when some cranky lady showed up instead of Cropley to teach
Highly recommend this class and definitely take it with Carrie. I've only been in the class for a couple weeks and I have come away with a lot. If you have questions you can always go see her during office hours or plan appointments to see her. The speech assignments are really fun!
she is constantly talking about her romantic communication studies! She should get a life or a romantic life herself , so she can stop talking about it!!!
She is back at SBCC this Fall ('05). She's a good teacher and will help you with anything anytime. she makes herself very available for her students! shes also very clear about what she wants from you adn she lets you know everything that she test's you on!
She is so young, and still knows an s-load about the business world. Very international perspective, great sense of humor. But how am I supposed to concentrate with such a hhh-otty prof!
The best teacher I have had in awhile. Very clear, concise, organized. If you put time and effort into it you will do well. But you learn so much from that class more than you needed to know about public speaking. I feel very confident in public speaking now after her!
Fun class...group work and some short essays/papers. Easy final project (either paper or in-class discussion) take her, she's cool!
best teacher ive had in awhile.. its public speaking so if you dont have a good teacher youre screwed. i never thought i could do this class and the second i finished my last speech it was the best feeling in the world :) she is seriously the best teacher ever!
She's wonderful and hot. Seriously period. Great instructor with a great personality
she's the best, makes class fun, is always into the class, and wants you to succeed. take her class, it will make you want to come to school
She makes you feel comfortable in your class which is very helpful for Public Speaking, so you are not affraid to speak. If you don't like public speaking, take her class, you're gonna love it. Besides, she's very hot, so if you don't like the class (which is rather impossible) you can at least look at her during the class time.
great teacher!! when you start out you'd rather jump off a cliff than give a speech, but she definitely helps make the classroom feel more comfortable and you at ease. remember, if you cant look people in the eyes when speaking, look at the tops of their head, it makes it look like youre looking around! helps with grading too!
Dr.C totally ROCKS!! She is a great professor bc she explains the subject well, multi-tasks all the time, gets the point across in a very profounding way. You can see her public speaking communication skill at work when she teachs & she's great at it. Fun class if you put the effort into it. Very friendly & pretty professor.

very good teacher
very straight forward and professional, but very fun too. She treats class like a job, an "A" is a promotion, a "B" is maintaining a good job, and a "C" is mediocre, so in the real world she says you'd probably get fired. Attendance is mandatory.
Dr. C is awesome. She is very clear and extremely interested in the communication/business world. She is very experienced (worldwide), but is young and remembers being a student. She does a great job teaching, and really makes her class fun. She is there to make you learn, and to guide you along the way; not hold your hand. Awesome teacher.
Great teacher! very helpful and loves to teach! exciting subject and she makes a pleasure to be in her class. i am now a comm major thanks to her! overall just fabulous!
I took 151 and 161 with professor Cropley and she was a great teacher. She outlines things very clear and expects the best. If you do what is told and show up...you will do amazing. She is very professional, but also very personable. Dont be afraid to go to office hours and ask for help! If you can try and study abroad with her!
Take her!! If you participate in class and do the work you'll benefit from the class and most likely get an A. I loved her as a teacher, and as a VERY attractive single woman with a cat.
such a great teacher!!! easy class and she is so funny and adorable!! she made common sence, (Comm) sorry comm majors, actually really fun. you dont learn too much but its a class on awareness more than anything but shes great
She is one of the best teachers at SBCC and the class is really good. The class is really straight forward and she makes everything really clear. It is a great class and a great professor! Take it!
Amazing Teacher. Wants students to succeed. Loves what she does. I Highly Recommend
felt like i was in a cheer leading class. picks her favorites, with the rest on the sidelines. passive aggressive and overall not sbcc standard.
Just an all around great relatable person
She doesn't try to take an easy subject and make it difficult or demanding. She is a really fun and entertaining professor. She clearly has a passion for her subject and for teaching. She is also very willing to help students in any way possible you can tell she really cares about her students. I highly recommend her she's wonderful
Solid teacher. Has a very clear syllabus that allows you to easily study. Easiest A I've ever had and she also made a subject I wasn't too interested in fun and worthwhile.
Entertaining class. Discussion-based and very straight forward. It's communications, so I wouldn't take it if public speaking terrifies you. Two main projects; one is interviewing someone with a job you want someday and the other is a 20 minutes group presentation. Dr Hutch is very respectful and helpful.
Didn't monitor the discussions online or give any input. If you follow the syllabus it's an easy A though.
Pretty damn hot. Took it online: Easy quizzes, the book helps to define key terms which are 90% of the material you're tested or quizzed on, easy A.
I loved Carrie. Super relatable woman and a great professor. She wrote the book, so she knows exactly what is in it and makes the tests from there. Class is very clear, but some concepts do require some sitting with. Participate in class, and it will be one of your favorites that you dont want to miss a day of.
This is probably my favorite class I have taken thus far at SBCC. Everything you learn you will use and apply to your life once your begin your career. Professor Hutchinson truly is knowledgable about this course and passionate about it. She is there to help and makes getting you a job her priority. I think everyone should take this course!
Everything is straight foreward and easy. You learn a lot in the class and its useful in life. She doesn't give busy work. Her moodle page is very organized and flows well, you never feel lost.
The first few sessions were enjoyable but i didn't learn anything. I felt this was ok because it was only the introductory classes. However by the end of the semester I still had not learned anything of importance only stupid labels for things you should already know. Do not take if you want to learn, a hot teacher to look at and an easy class yes.
Professor is very clear with all assignments and is fair in her grading. The format of the class is clear and straightforward, and she provides diverse and fun work for us to complete. I'm not very much into communication, but things I'm learning are applicable to my interpersonal relationships as well. (This class is mediated communication).
I was 100% shocked to find she has such good ratings.. Despite getting an A this far in the class I have been utterly annoyed the whole semester. Complete disorganization - didn't follow through with setting up final project at second meeting. The few times I did email her she did not answer my questions and made things more confusing.
Prof Hutch is the best online teacher I've had. Course is laid out right from the start, super clear assignments and grading sheets. Topics are really interesting and useful in real life. PLus she responds to emails in like 2 min. so I don't know what the other person was talking about. You can tell this is her life not just her job.
3 tests. 3 presentations. 3 class meetings. thats it. You have to read the textbook she wrote so everything that are on the tests are in the book. the first and last tests are online (open book) the middle test you have to go to a classroom to take. the first 2 presentations are videos and easy. the final is an in class presentation.
I can honestly say I learned the most daily applicable content in your class and I hope I remember it all for the rest of the time I am communicating with other humans on this planet. She is a bombshell & knows her stuff, go to class and you will get a lot out of this subject. Thought communication was pointless before but it changed relationships
She is an amazing teacher. I highly recommend her class. Read the book and you will be fine. Practice your presentations several times and don't wait last minute to study for the multiple choice exams.
She was a great teacher. Very personable and honest. She is very passionate about what she teaches and it shows. Her knowledge is extensive and helpful. Very applicable class to life in general. I would take it again. Also, if you follow syllabus and put effort into the presentations and read the chapters, easy A.
She is a wonderful professor! her classes are very organized so her expectations are clear from the beginning. She is super nice and her lectures are always fun. Everything is turned in and graded online, so you know your grade during the whole semester. She also gives out extra credit for every exam.
Carrie Hutchinson is a beautiful person inside and out. She knows exactly what she's talking about and you can tell she genuinely cares about what she's teaching. Comm 121 opened my eyes to all aspects of my interpersonal relationships. 3 exams, 3 projects. Take her honors class if you can!! I hope to take another class with her in the future.
Took Comm122 online, teachers expectations are clear from the get go. Every 3 weeks there is work so that was nice if you have other class. Expect to read ALOT! By the 3rd week you take 3 quizzes, practice exam and a 60 question exam plus discussion. Need a webcam for speeches for youtube, final is a live 5 minute presentation, dont do it you fail
I took 121 honors this past semester and it was honestly the best class I have taken thus far at SBCC. I haven't gotten less than an A on any of the assignments and tests. All I do is read the chapters for the week before lecture. 3 midterms. 2 presentations. Pretty solid class. Definitely worth taking for the oral requirement.
Lots of reading. Public speaking very hard for me, but professor very supportive.
Incredibly disorganized class. Professor ignores own grading rubric. Professor did not understand how to use Canvas; some assignments weren't shown. Assignments frequently went ignored and ungraded. E-mails were rarely answered within a week. Professor did not show up to a number of online live final presentations. Will avoid in the future.
This is the best class . It helped me to improved so much in my communication with people I love and people in my everyday basics. The material is easy to read with great examples. What you learn will actually help you. It doesn't matter if you are shy or extroverted, Dr Hutchinson is really supportive. Tests are easy if you read the material.
Class consists of exams that have the answers in the textbook. One presentation with google hangouts, if you don't do them, you'll get an F. You choose a time during which you want to video chat with her and two other students and you give a presentation. A few online discussions and a digital story where you record your voice. Pretty easy class!
Comm 122 is a pretty easy class. Professor Hutchinson pretty much gives you the classes first 20% of points for just signing up. The remainder of the points are on chapter quizzes, unit quizzes, projects, and discussion postings. I passed all the quizzes without reading the book. Projects are graded very generously. Do the work, you'll get an A.
Communications professor but cant even communicate properly.. I am not really sure who is hiring these professors these days.. She makes you buy her textbook so she can make extra cash from the side. Its an easy class, she just follows the rubric so stick to that and you are good. Other than that, she is just there for the salary.
I loved this class. Professor Hutchinson sets you up for success with clear grading criteria and excellent organization. The class is not labor intensive but it will challenge you to consider your world views. If you are into creating a better and more equitable world take this class.
Great class and a great teacher. Don't be scared of the speeches as she is very fair at grading them. Just try, prepare your speeches and read the book. You will probably get at least a B if you try. Easy A if you're a good student. Presentations are over google hangout or recorded, so it's great intro if you have a fear of public speaking.
Carrie is a great teacher for an online class. She answers really quickly and is really helpful. She is the literal opposite of a tough grader, as the exams and the presentations are so easy to get an A in. Would recommend.
This class was extremely easy. Do the assignments and you're guaranteed an A. I ended the class with a 96% receiving an A on every assignment and test. There was 2 major projects and 3 exams and then a quiz for every chapter and 4 discussion assignments. That's it. I believe she wrote the textbook, but for once it's a really good read.
I took her online Comm 121 and we did use a textbook. We had weekly quizzes, 4 online exams and two projects. One we had to show up in class to present the other was online. I totally recommend her class she is amazing and it was an easy A if you read the book.
Much to like about class. Very interesting, fun, informative self-assessment assignments and discussions. Interesting reading from a very well-written textbook that gives real-life examples. Tests tricky, make one think. This class somehow easily brought together classmates in a very supportive, encouraging environment. Great Prof. C. Happy took.
Hands down one of the best classes I've ever taken at SBCC. And one of the best teachers I've ever had. The book is very useful, clear lectures, easy projects, easy tests, she is caring and available outside of class as well. If you do your part, it will be an easy A. Learned about communication more than I expected.
Carrie is very nice and understanding. Her class is very easy to pass. I was nervous for the presentation that had to be done over a research study in front of a couple peers through a google cam but it was honestly really easy. I enjoyed this class and a lot of the topics discussed are very useful to everyday life.
Took her summer 1 comm 122 class. You have a final presentation on zoom and have the whole semester to prepare. Quizzes and test every week along with a discussion post. Tests were hard, but if you read the textbook, you'll pass. She's awesome and class is very interesting and informative.
She seriously knows her stuff and is ALWAYS there to help. Make sure to read her textbook bc the answers are clearly there. You're making a mistake if you chose a different prof. for the same course. She even gave a class wide project extension during the election to try to reduce stress. Loved the class, loved her teaching style, loved the grade.
She's very nice and very clear about what she expects from you. All the subjects you are tested on are covered in the class. She adjusted her class very well during this tough year and I really enjoyed taking it!
This was a great class. The Professor was great, if I ever need to take another comm class I will for sure take it with her. The reading is interesting. There is a short online quiz, 5 minutes and its 5 questions. Im the kinda guy where I like to read the question a few times and then go through and read the answers, but with a short quiz you can't
Took COMM 121 online during the summer and the class was very well structured with clear assignment deadlines. The textbook is written by her and reads as if it were a live lecture making it an easy read. Easy quizzes and exams if you read the book. A few major projects; as long as you don't fall behind and complete the work you'll get full marks
Dr. H is truly a gem. Wow. The class is organized so well, and she is just a super inspiring person. She's the reason I became a Communications major. Don't miss a chance to take any of her classes. Each one is different and she will have you thinking about things that you take for granted all around.
I absolutely loved this class! Professor Hutchinson is super sweet and very organized. I learned so much from her textbook. You get quizzed on each chapter but quizzes will seem easy as long as you do the reading. You have one public speaking project in front of a few people but she's very understanding of how public speaking can be nerve wrecking.
The class was a bait and switch in that it has nothing to do with the topic I signed up for. It's a DEI class and has nothing to do with leadership. I don't know how much the teacher has to do with the work, but there was no chance to be authentic in the class, you just have to regurgitate the status quo. I did not learn anything new and that's bad
Prof. Hutchinson wants you to succeed. Try hard, turn in your work, and email her with any questions, comments, or concerns. She will give you the support if you give the effort.
She has a great textbook and is really nice in person. Her online format was lengthy. anytime you would email a question she responds with "did you read the instructions" or "did you read the syllabus" and the information would be somewhere in her wall of instructions on one of her assignments or announcements. Read the textbook you'll get an A.
Honestly, this class is better than therapy. Super easy class and super eye opening. The textbook is written by her and is super insightful and not boring like most other textbooks. She really cares about communication and you can tell. I took the class in the summer, so grading may be different, but she grades quite quickly as well.
She is a great professor and it is noticeable that she truly cares about her students and their education. I would recommend!
The material mostly felt like a no-brainer. I've never rolled my eyes so hard at a textbook (written by her.) The tests are ridiculous, 1 minute per question and at times felt purposely worded to be confusing. The presentations are not hard but you feel ridiculous doing them. Lots of discussion post replies to create a fake camaraderie.
Prof. Hutchinson is super nice and so flexible. One discussion and a quiz every week. There are 2 tests through the semester that are easy. At the end of the semester, there is a presentation that goes with another project from earlier in the semester. Textbook is required, she wrote it herself! Overall, Carrie is great and I would recommend her!
I took this class because I needed the credit. I actually learned something and enjoyed it. I think this class helped me become more self-aware, and a well-rounded person. Professor Carrie was very understanding, helpful, and accepting. You do have to do a presentation over Zoom, but it's only a few minutes.
Very flexible and has a clear structure for the class. The final project was very simple and graded leniently which was helpful as I don't like presentations. She made everyone feel confortable while being online.
Very organized, inclusive and smart, Dr. H creates a positive vibe for students of all backgrounds and abilities. Everyone I have told to take her classes agrees that she is the best. She will have you thinking deeply about the way you show up in the world. I feel like I see things differently and am a better communicator because of her classes.
I would NOT recommend this teacher for her ability to use canvas. She doesn't unlock modules until Thursday, and they are due on Sunday. She also directs you to use required sources that are broken, and refuses to change her ways. She is the worst most difficult professor I have had thus far, even if the class is incredibly easy in itself.
I've had very tough courses, like anatomy, etc., and I did WELL, but this extremely easy content class doesn't make me want to continue. this instructor can stereotype you as a procrastinator when you contact her for help. She gives you quizzes with very captious questions to complete in 5 minutes! Ridiculous.
Amazing class! Based on textbook readings only, so if that's not your thing pick an in-person class. The textbook is written by her and very easy to understand. I highly recommend the class and her as a professor!!
I took this class during the Summer B section. It was very fast passed. She wrote the text book and provides a free on line version in the class. She gives helpful tips each week. The tests and quizzes were multiple choice, There is a presentation (3-5 minutes) on a peer reviewed article. She provides a clear rubric to follow. Great professor.
She was great, and the class was pretty easy. I took her online class, which was very manageable. There is one presentation required, but she was very understanding and helped people be less nervous. She is also easy to reach, replies very quickly.
Makes you feel bad if you're straight or white. I learned about how privileged I am and how awful I am to others. It's a DEI class that doesn't talk at all about leadership. Makes us fill out a survey called " CISGENDER MALE PRIVILEGE CHECKLIST" and "HETEROSEXUAL PRIVILEGE CHECKLIST." Excuse me, but what does that have to do with Leadership, AWFUL!
She's not a terrible professor. However, I would take her in person rather than online. The only learning material is the textbook, no lectures. She gives no feedback when grading assignments, so you won't really know what you did wrong on an assignment if you didn't get 100%. Be sure to read her exam questions thoroughly!
