Carrie is an amazing prof, she gives great lectures and makes every concept very clear and easy to understand. Her sense of humour makes the classes go by so quickly. Definitely my favourite class and prof!
She is an amazing prof. HIGHLY recommend taking any course you can with her!
Great lectures, that you need to attend if youre not a total nerd. Make sure you practice and youll do fine. Always available after class if youre a bit confused.
Carrie was by far the one of the best profs I've had so far at university. She made a subject I typically wasn't great at and didn't enjoy, easy and enjoyable. She explains concepts in such a way that people who are "science/math" focused understand but also in an alternative way using more every day terms which was extremely helpful.
Prof Madden was amazing! Her lectures were clear, concise, and energetic. I would absolutely recommend taking stats with her!!
Great lectures. Carrie is so funny and makes the lectures engaging. She really knows her stuff and points out areas where students struggle most. Her lecture notes are full of examples and many practice assignments and exams are available for practice. Super prof, would definitely take her again!
Even though Im not good at math she made the class a great experience. Shes a very good professor and gives valuable feedback. If you need Statistics go with her shes amazing.
I love Carrie. I didn't want to take stats but I loved her class. She is thorough and tries to make everything interesting and relatable. I heard other stats profs gave students a lot of difficulty and Carrie was definitely the best choice. I cannot recommend her enough.
Madden gives good lectures but I was at times confused and so I highly recommend going to the stat help center. The midterm is set up exactly like the practice midterms so no surprises there but I did find the final harder than anticipated (-a me problem?). Side note, over email she can seem rude (as many profs do), but she is kind and a good prof.
Her notes are the best. They're super clear and concise and she is excellent at explaining the material. You don't need to get a Grants book with her notes. She does a lot of iClickers in class and explains them as well, which really helps. The exams and quizzes are very similar to her notes and sometimes even easier
Professor Madden is the best Professor Ive had so far! She is very personable and easy to listen to! She is always very helpful if you go to her after class for explanations. Her midterm and final exam were both very tolerable, with no tricks or unreasonable questions.
Carrie was my favourite prof for my first year. Her humour made the lectures actually interesting and I always looked forward to attending class. She responded to emails almost instantly and was very helpful. I am looking forward to having her for STATS2000 this year.
Carrie is the best professor I have had in my entire university experience. Not only is she amazing at teaching, she truly cares about her students and wants to see them succeed. I originally hated stats but she made me love the class. I wish I could give this rating a 6/5.
Professor Madden is such a great lecturer and explains things well. Just make sure you take notes and do all the practice sheets and the quizzes/midterm/final will be fine.
Although I wasn't a huge fan of the asynchronous way this course was being taught, Carrie is probably the best math prof I've had. She's super caring and has been so accommodating throughout the process of remote learning. Some concepts seemed a little rushed in her videos but she's super easy to reach if you have questions. 100% recommend
Dr Madden is the best prof I have ever had. She explains concepts clearly and I really enjoyed her class (I am not great at stats). She even hosted a review session the week of the final and spent a lot of time going over practice questions with us. She responds to emails quickly and is friendly. Take stats with her if you can.
Literally the best prof you can have for stats! From someone who doesn't like stats, I recommend her as she explains everything in great detail and goes over review from stats1000 before moving on to new material. Best prof!
Carrie is great. She had great prerecorded lectures to watch at your own pace and allowed formula sheets in tests/exams. She has a lot of time set aside for office hours if you're unsure of material and like other stats courses provides all the questions online that you'll need. She sent out lots of emails for concerned students as well.
Professor Madden is one of a kind! She made STAT2000 easy to understand by constantly comparing it to STAT1000. I loved that she graded us on many assessments (quizzes, tests, exams). This took the pressure off of each individual assessment and made the course less stressful. She also allowed cheat sheets for all assessments. One of UoM's finest!
She cares about her students and went above and beyond to inform us about everything school related (possible strike, covid updates). She is warm, sympathetic, and a great lecturer. Doesn't waste time in video lectures. Has responded to emails at any hour. I would take any class with her. Carrie is an amazing prof and an amazing person.
Her online class is so organized, she make a schedule for you to follow and she is available for office hours. Her tests are fair but challenging. Honestly she's the perfect prof, she's also a sweetheart.
Not a lot to say just runs a really organized class and is available always and is truly caring and personable
An absolute gem
The best prof i ever had for statistics.
Amazing prof, she cared about everyone's learning and made stats enjoyable. Super kind and helpful, very accessible outside of class for questions. Provided lots of resources and practice, and is super clear on test content. Highly recommend
The professor was very fast while explaining and always assume you know everything from STAT 1000. Her exams and quizzes were the same level or harder than the practice questions ( unlike STAT 1000 whose exams and quizzes were much easier than those practice questions). But, she is good and caring. I may take with her again if I will do minor STAT.
(Unit 4) Probability, (Part of Unit5) chi square (in terms of estimating for p-hat) she could have honestly spent more time on and taught better. I asked for <5 questions through out the entire course. Nice the first two times. The final time I asked the question. She replied a bit rude... I stopped asking her questions after that.
The absolute best prof for stats! take it with carrie
Madden is the best, ha those awful reviews were in the wrong class lol.
Carrie is definitely one of the best profs Ive had. She is very caring and wants her students to do well. Shes also easily accessible outside of class both with her email and office hours. I honestly dont know where those negative reviews are coming from. Shes an amazing prof.
Very sweet prof and truly cares about her students, was very accommodating with the strike happening
great proff
Amazing professor. Wish I could take every course with her. Made stats 2000 seem super easy and her recorded lectures are the best, great how you can pause and take your time to go through all the example questions that she goes over in recordings. Exams and tests are fair, and the practice exams are really helpful. Take this class with Carrie!!
Very good prof! Also a really easy course if you understand stats.
Prof Madden is AMAZING. She spent so much time with me over Zoom during office hours explaining everything. There is lots to know in the course but she explains it good. I will take course with her again.
Madden is the best prof. makes things clear and easy to understand. will take more classes with her
Carrie was an amazing instructor. Her exams were just like the practice questions. She explained all the material very well and was always open to questions and was very accessible outside of class. She is a wonderful individual and I would highly recommend taking statistics with her.
she was absolutely awesome. her lectures were very clear and easy to understand and her practice problems were exactly like the quizzes and midterm. i wish i could take more courses with her.
Professor Madden is amazing! Attend class, read her notes and do the practice questions and you will do well! She has office hours and is accessible through email as well. If you want to understand STATS then take her!
Professor Carrie Madden was amazing! Her notes were easy to read and she gave so many good examples in class. The quizzes and exams were very fair and very similar to the practice given which made it easy to do well in this class! This professor definitely wants to see her students do well!
Carrie is one of the better profs at the UofM. She is very engaged with the class and makes it easy to follow. Attendance isn't needed as she just goes through the slides but definitely helps. As long as you complete all the practice problems and ask for help when needed, you will be successful in her class as tests are very similar.
She was so caring, and prioritizes student mental health and access to resources. In terms of the course she is so helpful, engaging, and makes sure to be accessible outside of class. Exams are very fair, and as everyone has already said practice questions are all you need to succeed.
She's nice, her lecture was easy to understand. She really cares for her students
One of the best Profs ever! She made lectures fun and exaplained the material very well. would definetely take her again!
Carrie is the best when it comes to stats at UM. Was nervous to do stats 2 as it had been years since I took stat 1. Carrie explained concepts very well in lectures and her quizzes, midterm & final were all very similar to the practice problems she had provided. Are some concepts that take effort to nail down but doing the problems helps greatly.
Dr. Madden appeared passionate about the course but possibly spread a little thin with other courses. Project instructions were fairly vague, and grading took a very long time. Dr. Madden was very helpful during office hours or by email. Very project-heavy course with lots of group projects.
She is a gem!! Best prof ever I have come across with. Just be sure to attend lectures. Her lectures are very clear and easy to understand. Practice all the questions she provides, attend her lectures and then you are sure to get a minimum of A.
You have to go to her lectures to really take in the material and understand it to the fullest. She's one of the most caring professors I've had and she's an amazing lecturer. If I gave in as much effort as she does for teaching, I bet I would've gotten an A. One of the best stats prof out there fr.
She's good at what she does. Always consistent and is compassionate towards students because she knows what students are going through. Assignments and quizzes are straightforward. She also gives out practice assignments and quizzes to help with studying. A lot of resources are given so there should be no surprises during exams.
Definitely one of the best professors i have ever been taught from. She knows how students think about exam situations and provides enough material for preparation. Just attend the lecture and you'll be good. Highly recommend taking this course.
Carrie was an amazing lecturer for statistics. She teaches in a way that benefits visual and math-savvy students. The term consists of 4 quizzes, 4 R studio assignments, a midterm, and a final. She wants you to succeed and you can tell she cares about her students. Overall a great prof!
Best prof I have ever had, she is so caring about all of her students and really wants everyone to understand the concepts. Midterms and quizzes are very representative of the material you learn in class so just pay attention and put in the effort.
Carrie is one of the best profs i've ever had. The material is very straight forward and the tests and exams reflect exactly what you learn in class. If you go to class and pay attention you will succeed. She is very caring about all of her students and wants everyone to succeed.
Literally the MVP of profs! She made this course so easy to understand. Would only recommend to take stats with Carrie!
Incredible prof! Despite me being a bit wary at first, Carrie turned out to be one of the best teachers I've ever had. As a student needing accommodations, when I messed up my midterm booking Carrie did more to make sure I could take the midterm than the higher-ups at Student Accessibility Services did. I'm so thankful for being in her class!
Best professor ever. She starts very slow since it is very important that you remember material of stats 1000. She does a couple of lectures of review just to be sure everyone remember. The whole course is based on the same stats distribution adding extra stuff, so be confident you understand the material and you'll be fine. She does I clicker 5%.
she don't shut up and talks like we know what she's teaching already and annoying voice
This professor is amazing! she helps so much and really cares for her students. Take stats with carrie
Carrie is the BEST, tbh I was scared to take a stats class again after 1000 but so happy I did with Carrie. She is so funny made the lectures enjoyable and I really got a lot out of the course. Best prof!!
Amazing teacher. Explains stuff in different ways which is super helpful!
10/10 prof, teaches well and explains things in a way that makes sense. She cares for her students and does a great job connecting concepts.
She is AMAZING. Lectures are organized, and the way she teaches them is just awesome.
Carrie is the absolute best professor I have ever had. She is caring, organized, and a master of her craft. Her knowledge of statistics is extremely impressive and shines through in her engaging lectures. If you attend class and complete the provided practice problems you will have no problem doing well in her class!
i LOVED her. took her for 1150 and she was so organized, made her lectures easy to follow and as long as you did her practice questions you will do good in her tests. she genuinely cares about her students and it's such a lovely change of pace
Excellent professor, very organized and expectations were presented clearly at the start of the semester. Now considering a statistics minor because of this course and professor. Pace was very quick at times but she acknowledged this at the end of the term. Would highly recommend, hoping to take further courses with her in the future.
Carrie is a really great prof, takes a lot of class time to go over problems so we better understand what she is doing. Also clear outlines for what the midterm/final/quizzes will cover and if you do the practice questions to prepare you will be more than fully prepared to do well. Understands stress of being a first year and is really wonderful!!
Carrie was so amazing and makes me want to pursue statistics! Although I didn't interact with her personally a whole ton, she explained concepts very thoroughly and gave the class lots of feedback and tips for the quizzes, midterms, and final. Make sure to complete ALL the practice she gives you and you'll be good!
Carrie was an amazing professor! She explained everything clearly in lectures and spent time on practice questions. She was also very supportive, and I appreciated how she encouraged us to approach her whether we faced challenges academically, physically, or financially. However, I do wish she would slow down a bit during lectures.
I took the stat 1150 with her. She is an amazing prof. Very detailed slides you have access to, she solves exercises from slides on lectures and then publish them online later that day. I got B+ just because I wasn't preparing much and wasn't attending lectures after 1 month (I work full-time) so I got my B+ just from her well-written slides. Easy
If you can get into her class, DO IT NOW! This has got to be the most talented educator on UofM campus. She is a truly gifted teacher! Also, a very easy marker.
Very good prof, lectures include examples and clear explanations. Sometimes she makes things harder than they really are though. Stat 2000 is a VERY easy course, so I wouldn't worry about it. Quizzes and lab assignments are fair and the exams are also pretty easy. Her online notes help a ton, teaching yourself the course is definitely possible.
1 of the best professor that I can tell
Her lectures were well executed and interesting, and she actually explained how what we were learning is useful. Everything was taught in a digestible way and it was rarely confusing.
Her lectures are very good and she definitely knows her stuff. I found that occasionally she'd spend too much time on very simple concepts and skim over more difficult ones. Doing all of the practice questions is mandatory if you want an A or A+.
You either get stats or you don't, I didn't obviously but I found the lecture slide really didn't help. They are all over the place and confusing to re read. She did many examples in class and you definitely need to go to understand fully.
This isn't the first class I have had with this professor and hopefully it won't be the last! Carrie is incredible. Explains concepts clearly and really wants you to succeed.
Great lectures. Super informative teacher.
Carrie was an outstanding Stats professor. All notes and examples are provided and she goes through everything you could possibly be tested on which is sometimes unclear in courses. She wants everyone to succeed, is very organized and explains why we solve for certain things and provides the tables she uses in her notes so there is no confusion.
She's an amazing professor who truly cares about her students. Always organized, kind, and consistent with how she teaches. Assignments and quizzes are fair, and she gives plenty of practice materials that make studying much easier. She's understanding, compassionate, and genuinely wants her students to succeed.
Carrie is amazing! I have a very hard time grasping anything math-related, but Carrie was able to explain things in such a way that everything made sense. Make sure to attend lectures, though, as we flew through course content very fast.
Carrie uses lots of sports stats which I thought was fun. Sometimes assignments and the final want specific wording which is the one thing that tripped me up. Lectures are decent but stat 1000 is simply not the most thrilling class. Maybe she deserves a 5 but the class is just kinda boring sometimes because of the material
Great prof
Carrie is amazing! Take stats with her if you can. Very clear explanations and lecture slides.
From the first lecture you know how much Carrie cares about the success of her students. Make sure to attend every lecture as the course goes quickly, and she makes very important points not in the online slides. Great prof
Great prof especially if this is your first semester at the UofM. She explained the course material thoroughly as well as general info about uni. Her VW day reminders were GPA savers and she even helped me determine if I should drop another class based on my marks in it. Attendance is mandatory though (5% of your final mark, easy if you go).
doesn't respond to emails even when you talk about it in person and does not have an ounce of empathy
She was a great teacher lectures were clear and explains well. Unfortunately I failed I never did this in highschool
