Study for the class and it is easy. She is awesome
Shes extremely difficult ; Her notes has nothing to do with her exams
Bio chem is not her area of expertise, so she doesn't have many different ways to explain one concept. There were 4 difficult exams and the comprehensive final. Beware the multiple choice, it's hard! Take home essays due the day of the exams, very time consuming, but help you to learn the concepts for the final. KNOW the material or you're screwed.
Dr. Preite is nice, she offers help, and she is very clear when lecturs, but he test is very very hard and she doesn't give enough time.
Very nice, happy, and always offers help. Enjoyed the class and her lectures. I didn't find her difficult, however, the course is. Her test were hard and essays are time consuming. So all in all,i would recommend her but this is a class to be taken seriously if u wanna do well. STUDY!
Biology is not an easy class. Professor Preite goes above and beyond when it comes to helping her students learn. She posts videos, games, puzzles, activities, as well as practice tests on Angel to make learning easier. The essays do require effort, but increases the chances for a better grade on all exams if one takes them seriously.
I haven't taken a Biology class in over 30 years and it is because of Professor's Preite's teaching techniques that I was able to not only pass but receive an A. My advice is to record all lectures, take good notes, and study hard. Take advantage of all videos, activities, games, and practice tests that she posts on Angel because they really help!
Dr. Preite was awesome. Loved what she teaches and it shows. The course is hard. If you take advantage of all of the resources available, and take notes and STUDY, you will do great. If you attend lectures and are ready and willing to do the work, it is easy.
Wonderful teacher! shes really shows she cares. Offers help when needed. Don't give up if u start of bad just take good notes, read your book! and go on angel. I could have done better but I didn't read the book still passed tho. STUDY!!! as soon as lectures over or the same day. Shes early soo be prepared to write alot. I would take her again :)
THIS IS A VERY HARD CLASS! you have to show up and study. She loves science so she tries to make it as fun and interesting as she can. She is always willing to answer questions and willing to help. I would take her again.
Dr. Preite is the most helpful professor I have ever had. If you study and attend class then you will do really well. She gives you all the necessary tools you need to succeed, and she goes above and beyond to help you understand the concepts. She is into detail to pay very close attention. I would take her again!
Dr. Preite really loves what she does and it shows. I found her tests to be a little difficult, but she tried to help her students succeed. She goes a little fast through the notes and doesn't post them online, so it can be difficult at times to keep up. In my experience class gets a little bit easier as you go, so just hang in there!
so far she makes the class interesting. she knows her stuff. it is a lot of info and is a fast pace lecture. ive been doing everything to stay on top of the work. doing the three R's
her lecture are fast paced and she does clicker questions. the only hard thing is her exams. they are very difficult to pass. the multiple choice are the tricky part.
She is a really nice teacher and she is willing to help. This is a hard class though and is not to be taken lightly.
SHE DOES NOT EXPLAIN CONCEPTS VERY CLEAR. HER EXAMS ARE TRICKY AND THERE ARE OPEN QUESTIONS ON HER QUIZES
She is a nice teacher. Willing to help you in anyway she can. She is hard so make sure you study. He lab test are open answer so make sure you put everything you know about the question on the paper because her grading is tough.
she is a very detailed in her lecture and helps you understand the topic but if you dont read before class you will be lost the class is hard lots of studying required
I knew before going into the class that it was going to take quite a bit of studying to pass. You have to read the sections covered in lecture before class. IClicker questions really help prepare you for her exams. If you don't understand something, ASK, and she will go over it again. Loved her study guides and all the extras on Angel!!
Hard class.
Dr, Preite was a good lecture teacher, but she taught us in layman's terms and her exams are in biological terms. If you have a question and try to talk to her she talks down to you like your in Jr. High. She is very passive aggressive. Exams are almost impossible!!!
Very tough class. You really have to want to learn and she will do her best to teach you. She is a very good instructor and her lectures can make complex biological processes seem simple. Unfortunately, her exams often make the simple seem complex. This is a hard class, you will study and then study some more. But I did learn a lot about Biology.
You have to always read your textbook. Very good at explaining. Quiz questions every class. Very difficult and confusing tests!
I was terrified of Mrs. Preite before attending her class just from this site. I am so glad I had her. She is passionate and enthusiastic about science. Its easy to get sucked in to her lectures. This course is hard but she relates the information well and uses creative language and props to help you understand. I wish she taught all science prereq
Record lectures, offers no study guides, visit her office hours. 4 tests, uses iClicker and drops the lowest online test. Does essay questions!
I LOVED her. Her lectures relate to real life & she loves what she teaches. Even though her class was hard she was awesome. To pass you MUST study and record her lecture. She kept her study guides on Angel, & she gives you the Power Point template to take notes on. The only way to fail this class is to not study. Use the resources she gives online!
Dr. Priete is a phenomenal professor. She gives extremely informative and helpful lectures. The class is not easy, but Dr. P does everything she can to make it interesting and relative. She offers tons of online study tools, power points for lecture and lots of help for students. 4 online quizzes, 2 assignments, 4 exams and the final.
Dr.P is a good teacher; and provides many helpful tools online if you choose to use them. There are 4 online quizzes, 4 in-class open book quizzes, 2 easy homework assignments, 4 exams, and a comprehensive final exam. This is a very difficult course, and will require studying before and after class.
Dr. Preite is a great teacher, she explains things very well and takes the time to ensure everyone knows what she is talking about. She has many tools online and has creative ways of helping students remember the material. I took her for bio189 and received an A. USE THE STUDY GUIDES AND ONLINE TOOLS, immerse yourself. Also, vocab is key!!!!!!!
Absolutely loved her. Your really have to read and know the material and the vocabulary to do well in the course. I had to make my self buckle down and study (flash cards mostly). Once you get a feel for what material she's covering you'll be better prepared to study for future exams and quizzes. She also offers online resources to study from GL!
Dr. Preite is awsome!!! She is very enthusiastic about Biology and she explains the concepts really well. She posts many links on Angel to help students further understand concepts. Her exams are straightforward and as long as you understand the material you will do great. Answering the review questions really help a lot with studying for the exams
Dr.Preite is wonderful! She is by far the best professor I have ever taken. Really helpful and passionate about what she does. Only wants the best for her students. I would recommend completely! Test are straight forward and really easy if you attend every lecture. Her lectures are very clear and she explains a topic it until everyone understands.
She is a great teacher and her lectures are interesting but the exams are extremely difficult. The grade I got does not reflect the amount of time and energy I put into this class. Her exams are tricky and are not all Multiple choice like all of the other Biology teachers. Just a heads up!
Dr. P is an excellent professor. By far one of the best I've had. She uses PowerPoint for all her lectures and provides lecture handouts for every class. With that being said, this class is NOT easy, there is a ton of information but Dr. P does an awesome job at making sure you understand the material. Will require lots of study time.
Dr. P was awesome! She was very sweet and gave all the necessary tools to succeed in this class. Use them. This is a hard course and I HIGHLY recommend recording all the lectures. If you think you are going to skim by with minimal studying you are WRONG! Do NOT wait until the last minute. Go through all of your material everyday and then some.
Dr. P is a wonderful person & VERY intelligent but her class is very difficult (just because you study doesn't mean you'll get a good grade). Best advice: review the practice quizzes on Canvas to prep for exams & record lectures! Class material is almost graduate level in my opinion. Know what you're getting into before taking class/NO full load!!!
I got A in this class but I studid hard for this and she help me alot when I had questions etc. Use a voice recorder and review the class after each class and use all the tools that she provide and you should be able to do well in her class. She is very fair and the exam may be hard but it is not impossible. SHE IS GREAT!!
Very difficult class. I received an A but believe me I worked for it! Record lectures, attend every class, make flashcards and use the study guides Dr. P provides. Study like your life depends on it! Very good teacher and interesting class.
I am not one of her students but I sit in her lab and lectures. I don't think the students in her classes even know how lucky they are to have her as their professor. More students need to appreciate when a teacher teaches "hard" material in a very organized and clear way. She does what she does very well - just do your part as a student & study.
HARDEST CLASS EVER TAKEN. The teacher is very hard & expects you to study every day. 4 exams PLUS 2 hour final that includes everything youve learned. Hard grader and even harder exams. If you want a good grade you really have to study. Glad i didn't have her for lab. I learned a lot but worked my butt of. DOESNT ROUND. I recieved 2 79.5% on exams.
Great Teacher!! She is tough though. Take good notes and you have to really prepare for tests. She is a tough grader as well. Most of your grade comes from the tests and they include multiple choice with short answers with Essay. I fell she teaches amazing and I learned a lot!!
Love her outfits and energy! Keeps the class awake! Explains concepts well and clear!
Highly recommend Doctor P! Very lively and fun! I very much enjoyed her class. Although, it is difficult. You MUST STUDY. 4 exams, multiple choice, matching, definitions, and short essay. Quizzes online, and even more difficult.
Whoa. I had 2 drop her and switch to 95. she is very into this and seems impatient when you dont understand. DO NOT COME TO CLASS UNPREPARED OR YOULL WASTE YOUR TIME. you wont get the concepts. You have to use the book cause she doesnt elaborate much on subjects. I also tried again taking djurcin n dropped. finally passed with omalley and walker
Great teacher! Her online components are so helpful. If you print the study guides and do the work, you will do well on the exams.
Love the professor as she is really funny. When she explain things, she'll use funny examples to make it more easy to understand. Sometimes she uses her experience as an example. She always likes to help her students. Always give announcements before class starts. Her powerpoints are very useful for exams and quiz.
Dr. Preite is 1 of a kind, a rarity @ CSN. She is very enthusiastic, helpful, & genuinely a sweet woman. Her class is 4 quizzes,4 Hw assign, & 20 participation questions,(-- all these can save your grade) 4 exams, & final. She is not a tough grader, either. Hw & quizzes always have to do w what will be on the exam. Take her, you wont regret it.
I loooved class with her! Her exams are pretty straight forward from her notes. You DO have to study, so don't think it's an easy A! She doesn't go by the book that often, so show up to class to get her specific notes from lectures. Has a lot of side assignments to help your grade out, too. Would definitely take her again!
Dr. Preite is amazing! Class is not hard if you do your part & study. She gives out a few quizzes, assignments& participation points that help boost your grade . Her exams are not difficult & based more on your notes .You will need the book though to reference back to. She is also very sweet and fun! Loved going to lecture. Never a dull class! :D
Dr. P is an amazing professor! She explains difficult concepts clearly and uses creative visual aids to help drive the point home. Print the lecture notes she posts on canvas and bring to class. She also makes study guides available, use them! I recommend reading assigned chapters before class and if you aren't a good note taker, record lectures!
Easy to communicate with. Down to earth and friendly. You really need to understand the material fully in this class in order to pass. Exams are tough and some questions really make you question your knowledge. She expects the details to be understood. So much information in so little time... I enjoyed the class but it was very difficult.
amazing professor!! very charismatic and she makes you feel involved
As hard as this teacher is ... She is simply amazing. Very inspiring. Smart and explains everything very well.
I find it extremely strange that people below rated her so high. Dr. Preite is a great person but I have to say her teaching sucks. She stands in front of the class and talks ALL DAY, making simple lessons seem difficult. And don't even bother studying her study guides, they're 100+ questions yet her exams are only 60-75 questions. Makes no sense
Dr. Preite is an amazing smart woman who gives out amazing lectures, dumbs things down for you to truly to understand the concept, provides handouts and visual aids as well which are what her exams are based off. Also, she is very helpful when you ask for it. I would take her again but not for this class just because this class is challenging.
Not an easy class at all. However, I knew that walking in. She was recom to me and i'll recom her to you. Dr. P is very nice and really tried to make sure we understood concepts. I loved her lectures. I didnt love her exams lol. She makes you work for it.(this is college) u will HAVE TO STUDY TO PASS. She will be there to help you if you need it.
Dr. P. is a great Professor. I had her for lecture and lab. She makes lectures easy to go to as well as understand. I recorded the lectures which helped while studying and reviewing slides. She is corky funny and very cute. In lab she gives an intro but you should know the info going in. You HAVE to study. Use the practice quizzes on Canvas.
Im sorry did someone tell you Biology was easy? Well it's not. Thankfully there are proffessors like Dr. P out there. She makes concepts understandable . You are going to hate her around exam time, and when you get a homework back. She expects detailed explanations on all written work. If you do your part and REALLY study you will do fine.
Dr. P is amazing! always there if u need her, she genuinely wants u to succeed but she certainly won't make it easy. If you're taking 196 you're probably a bio major & if you can't handle 196 rethink your major. Bio is hard but great professors like Dr. P make it possible to succeed. Go to her office hours early in the semester and ask for help!
Dr. P is an amazing professor. Her lectures are interesting and makes you want to come to class. She has lots of energy, which makes class exciting and entertaining. Record the lecture as all of her tests are based off of them. Utilize canvas, as she posts lecture notes, videos, activities, and practice quizzes. She sets you up for success.
This is a very very difficult class. She gives you the power point slides minus the definitions so you do have to still take notes. I suggest you print the slides in color if you can because it really helped me. She has a lot of trick questions that are hard but shes she got me extremely prepared for Bio 223 and 224!! YOU MUST GO TO CLASS!!!
Dr. P is amazing and funny! She's a fair teacher and although the class is tough, she is very thorough and does a great job explaining things in ways that you can relate to. I highly recommend her to anyone that needs to take 189.
Really good teacher! As long as you study, you will get a good grade. Don't miss lecture. And go to office hours if you need to. Great personality! Highly recommend!
Dr. Preite is phenomenal. By far the best instructor I've had. Come to every class, record lectures and study a lot. She has a great way of explaining hard concepts, and will still help during office hours. I cannot recommend her enough for BIO 251. Kudos to Dr. Carrie Preite, sure wish there were more like her that had her passion for teaching
Record her lectures and take as many note from the lecture as possible.
Amazing lab teacher for bio 196. She took difficult concepts and simplified them. She thoroughly explains everything that you need to know for the weekly lab. There is a 10 question quiz each week and a lab paper due. If you read the lab manual and understand what is going on, then you will pass.
Hard class no matter who you will taking . Dr P is amazing instructor , recommend to take lecture Bio 189 with her.
I don't know why people say she's this amazing teacher when she's not. I went up to her after class to get help with a subject and she told me to get a tutor. Her test are extremely hard. She will ask for C but you need to know details about A and B to get to C. She's the worse professor Iv had at CSN.
I love Dr. P! Her passion for Bio is contagious. Her lectures are never boring because she bounces around the room and uses humor to keep you interested. Go to S.I., take good notes, do the study guide, and you should be fine. This class is tough regardless of your professor. But at least Dr. P keeps you inspired.
Soooooo, Dr. P was amazing. I only studied about 4 hours a week (I wouldnt recommend doing that, especially if you havent been to school in a while), whenever I went to see the answer key she answered questions that I had. So, ask questions if you dont understand! If i studied more i couldve gotten an A. I would really like to take her for micro!
Just like any science lab, biology 189 will be hard. You will need a textbook. Ms. Preite overall is a great teacher and has a lot of enthusiasm. You will probably hate her during test time but as long as you study and have a good understanding, you'll be fine in class.
Dr. P is such a great professor. She knows what she's talking about, and makes sure you understand everything that she lectures on. Her exams are based on what comes out of her mouth, so pay close attention, and take good notes. The main keys to pass her class are: take good notes, get a tutor, study for a good 15 hrs a week, and read the book!
Great Prof but class itself is difficult but she is willing to help.
I like her personality but when it comes to test, she throws trick questions. Sometimes her lectures are confusing but if you study and attend SI you'll do fine but I hardly study for exams and failed but make sure you have time !! cause i surely didn't have time so that why i failed this class. There are times she is kinda confusing when asking
Dr. P is an amazing teacher, she is passionate about the subjects which makes it easy to learn. She gives pre-quizzes that helps you study for actual quizzes and Exams since most of the questions are taken straight out of the prequizzes. Go to class and pay attention; will pass easy. 4 Exams total, but if your score is high the 4th exam is optional
He is a great professor. He tells you exactly what to expect. Gading is easy. Labs are easy. Homework which is much is easy. Class EASY
Loves teaching makes class fun Bio189 very difficult but easy A if study a lot Cares about student success Awesome study sessions before any big exam Easy to understand material Used props in class to clarify concepts Must attend all classes to pass Loved having her as a Prof Wish she and Prof Byrd taught 123 or 124 Tests before each lab class
Her online classes are very hard. She grades hard to. Its like she doesn't want you to pass. She takes forever to grade, so if you need to drop the class you don't know if you should.
So this is a tough class, you have to truly comprehend the info to pass with a good grade. Not an easy A by any means but her class will definitely give an amazing foundation for future bio classes. If you want to learn and put it the work she is definitely the instructor to take! Lectures are really good! Definitely recommend recording them.
Professor Preite does a fantastic job with her lectures. I took this course over the summer and it was difficult at first but the key to passing this class is to study hard, study consistently. Getting a good grade is possible if you put in the hard work and studying. Would recommend taking this professor because she also helps out a lot.
Dr. P is great. This class is tough but she sets clear expectations. She gives a lot of information during her lectures so recording them is a good idea. I recommend studying and rereading as much as possible.
5 exams (lowest gets dropped) and 1 final cumulative exam. Exams are about 70% multiple choice and 30% essay. The multiple choice questions are straight forward but she is VERY picky on the essay portion. You must be very detailed or else she will mark off points. The book is not required to read but you must buy it for the online homework (graded)
Dr. P is AWESOME! Her passion for biology is shown in her teaching. I wish I can have her for all of my biology courses ! ( I really had her for lecture but Lab was the only option on rate my professors )
Dr. P lectures are clear but i would advise recording them as well just cause it is a lot of information. students in other classes didn't cover near as much material as we did in Dr. P's class. There were 5 exams and a final. in-between exams there are also unit quizzes AND pre-reading quizzes. its a lot of work but shes a great teacher
Dr. Preite was a great lab teacher. She was very funny and explained everything very well. I would definitely take her lab again but she's a tougher grader. She wants you to explain everything very well so explain on all you quizzes.
BEST BIOLOGY TEACHER! She is amazing! Take her class! She takes different approaches and wants you to learn the material truly. She is funny and respected by everyone; also very consistent. She gives homework somewhat weekly; there are a few activities and 5 tests, plus the final. She is seriously incredible at her job. She makes biology easy!
She is by far the best professor I've ever had at CSN. Amazing lectures, very interactive and encourages you to participate. Make sure you record her lectures and listen to it again before each and every exams. It really does help a lot. She has a very organized course outline that you will follow the whole semester to know what to study.
I absolutely loved having Dr. P for lecture. I wish I could have had for lab and I really wish she was teaching BIOL197. She was hard, with so much information shoved into every lecture. She stayed on schedule according to the syllabus and gave all the power points ahead of time (with I suggest printing them out ahead of lectures).
Lectures are thorough and she takes the time to break down every material. Exams are fair except for the essay part because she's a hard grader. Don't be lazy and you'll do well on her class. Take her, she's great!
Dr. Preite is amazing as long as you show up to class (attendance is worth points) and take good notes you can get an A. I chose not to print the lectures in advance and still did fine. We have partner quizzes which is helpful. 2 reading articles, and a debate. 10 quizzes and an optional final. Instead of Exams theres 10 quizzes which makes it easy
Great teacher/personality. Took this one for non-major in bio. Learned a lot about desert plants and bio. in general. You will have a quiz every week but if you are in class and take notes you will pass every quiz. . Uses good examples and answers all questions. A touch slow on posting grades and info, but she was moving too...
Dr. P is an excellent professor who cares about teaching. There is a quiz every week so do the study guide. Start early on the final field guide project. A big upside is going out in the field after the first half of the semester is over. Attendance is mandatory, and I highly recommend going to every lecture. If you miss a lecture you miss a lot.
The class is VERY enjoyable. It isn't a pushover class however. You will have to write a field guide, and this can be rather intensive. If you take good notes throughout the field trips for the class, it isn't too difficult, but if you wait until the last minute to do projects, you will be incredibly miserable.
Her class is very detailed. Her test is not easy. You definitely need to put in the work to pass her class. This is what i did to pass her class was read the chapters, record her lectures for review, print out her study guides and power point lectures, and watch some you tube videos. She gives a lot of helpful guides in canvas.
Dr. P is an awesome Bio professor. She is the best at breaking concepts down to allow you to completely understand. She did require a lot of reading and summaries of chapters read so be prepared for that. I wish I would have taken her for Biol 189.
She even suggested to drop any other summer classes. Her lectures are easy to understand. Her tests and exams are too difficult. There are many chapters to read and she will test you online to see if you read them before coming to class. Exams are multiple answers, matching and writing. Too hard!!!
By no means is Bio 189 easy but Dr. P is the instructor you want to learn from. She breaks down all the material and uses analogies for everything which truly helped me. She is hilarious which keeps you interested. Do yourself a favor record her lectures and print out her lecture handouts. Her tests are NOT easy. Minimum of 15 hrs of study a week.
She gets annoyed when asked to repeat something during lectures. too much reading and exams are super hard
Dr. Preite is no easy professor but she is reasonable. Took the summer course, record her lectures and take precise notes. Everything on tests are stated in lectures. Google all at home test and study for exams. Lots of reading but some can be skipped if you go back over her lecture.
Dr. P is awesome! The class is hard but she makes everything as clear as anyone possibly can, its just a matter of studying. She has great energy and lectures are never boring. Go to the review class before the final, you will get extra credit for showing up. The exams are hard but she drops your lowest test score. The final was super easy though.
Pro: Lectures are very theatrical, not boring. Con: homework and online quizzes. Must be in class to pick up and return homework. Always some kind of gimmick for points so you must come to class. Exams have tough essay and essay questions, not all multiple choice.
I absolutely loved having her for my lecture! She is so enthusiastic about Biology, and she makes you enjoy class. She only tests on what she actually teaches in class, so it's not smart to skip class. Also make sure you study and take it seriously. 10/10 recommend!
Dr. P is an amazing professor, her lectures are great. She gives you all of the information you need to succeed and teaches in such a way that you can really understand. Put in the work, study, be an active participant in class, and take good notes. This class is completely manageable if you make it a priority.
Biology 189 is NOT an easy class. You have to study no matter what professor you chose. Dr. P made this class interesting. I never took biology, not even in high school, so I really had a tough time in the beginning. But Dr. P is worth it. Yes she is tough and yes you have to do the work. But as long as you study and attend lectures you will pass!
Dr.P is great. She makes a tough class easier to understand. She provides lecture handouts. Only a few hw during the semester. Her exams are hard but they cover everything she lectures in class, plus she has exam reviews before every exam which help a lot. Her exams consist of multiple choice, matching, and short essay.
This class is tough, but if you study... a lot, you will pass. Tests are made of multiple choice and "molecule" recognition pictures, which you have to name and describe. This class definitely prepares for tougher science classes, also the lectures are interesting. I recommend Dr Preite.
Dr. P is a great Biology teacher, she explains everything well and has a lot of visual aid. She makes class fun but Bio is hard so don't expect an A if you don't study outside of class. I took bio196 before with another teacher and had to withdraw, retook it with her and passed. She's a great teacher
Dr. Preite is really passionate about biology and that makes the class really enjoyable. Her lectures and activities are the best. Biol 189 is a hard course but Dr. Preite makes it easy.
Prof. Preite makes this class fun! She's energetic and obviously loves her subject. She's big on tardiness/absenteeism and grades accordingly. The labwork in the field was really fun, but be prepared to do some hiking! If you keep up with the classwork as you go along, you'll be fine. Fall behind and you'll be kicking yourself at finals!
Dr. P is by far one of the best professors I have taken at csn! She makes lectures fun. This class is not easy, there is a lot of information to take in and even 16 weeks doesnt seem long enough but its doable. Record her lectures and print power points and study, ALOT.
I absolutely LOVE Dr.P. I took 189 in the summer and it is ROUGH, but I would take her again in heartbeat. Nothing is cut out of the summer, so there is a ton of information to learn in 8 weeks. But it is doable. I have an A in the class, and I had to study 3-6 hours a day to keep it that way. More on the days before a test. I HIGHLY recommend.
Man this is a tough class! I'm taking the summer school version of it which may explain the intense amount of material to learn. But what's great about this class is that Dr. Preite is extremely engaging and enthusiastic to share with you what she knows about biology. Study hard. It's comprehensive. But you CAN do it if you PUT IN THE TIME.
this summer class is awful don't do it like me it's not her it's the work i freaking love her shes perfect and in my opinion the best of CSN period... i'm not kidding, but i audited the class will retake it, cause biology 189 is not easy people as she says, not impossible either, i'm just recording her learning for now, nice nice teacher, best!
Dr. P is not an easy A, but she also is NOT hard. I got an A in the class over the summer, when it was shorter and much more intense. I read the book, but many people said they didn't need to. I thought her tests were fairly easy and never got below an 89% on them. Doing the study guides after class will save you and help you ace the tests.
You guys. Don't listen to anyone who say she is hard. They must have not tried. I came to class, listened, filed out the study guides, and passed the class with a 96% in the 8-week summer semester. I hardly studied outside of class except to fill out the study guide with what she said in class. Take notes. Listen. Do the study guide. You'll ace it.
Dr. Preite is amazing! Her lectures are not boring, she breaks everything down so you can understand it. Do not miss class!! She provides PowerPoint slides on Canvas, but theyre blank so you need to be in class to complete them. She also will not give you your homework or test grade if youre not in class.
Dr P is EXCELLENT. If you are a biology major this is exactly who you want teaching you. She packs in so much information, and provides tons of resources in Canvas to help you understand the material from different angles (use them!). Highly recommend her for lab as well. Grading is slightly tough, but you will learn to really know your material.
Dr Priete was an amazing professor. Biol189 is an extremely hard class and she made it easy to get help and understand. Her lectures are interesting and she breaks down everything so that you can understand. Definitely take her if you want to learn and get a good grade.
I am currently finishing up my nursing prerequisite classes. I am in 224 and 251 this semester, earning As in both. I attribute my good grades to Dr. Preites 189 class. I remember everything! She was one of my favorite teachers. I studied HARD and earned an A in a summer term. Use her study guides! Theyre everything you need to know!
I love her! So much. 189 was the first class I took at CSN. I have a bachelors from another, much larger University, and honestly thought that going to a small college would be a cake-walk. Holy moly - nope. Not only are these classes challenging, but I have found professors like Preite to be some of the best teachers I've ever had! She's amazing!
Dr. Preite's class is challenging: she requires you to learn the material and also know how to apply it. Dr. Preite cares about the subject and her students. Her lectures are interesting and entertaining, and she's incredibly available if you have questions. She's thorough and expects a lot, and I think I got more out of the class because of that.
Exams are difficult, and has written portions on her exams that are no joke! Everything must be written and spelled correctly. Good professor over all, but definitely a very tough grader!!
DR. P is the best! She really wants you to succeed. Tons of canvas material to supplement learning. Don't expect to not study and pass. 189 is HARD. No matter the professor. But it should be because most are going into health care. I wouldn't want a nurse who can't pass a basic biology class. She gives you all the tools, you need to do the work.
If taking her class she's tough. Record her every lecture and take n ask as many question you have. Go to quiz review. Her test need to be to her liking her wording. If i was you take different teacher all together for lecture and lab. Unless you want a challenge n tons tons of homework n late nights.
Dr. P really makes things very understandable with her memorable examples. She's very available with office hours and even hosting exam reviews during her own free time. Like really, who would do that? She would. She cares a lot for her students and I'm so fortunate to have taken her for BIO189 LEC and LAB. Best professor ever. Thank you Dr. P!
I highly recommend taking Dr. Preite! She is an amazing professor and wants you to succeed. Trust me, I am not great at science, but I worked hard. I studied at least 2 hours a day and it paid off. Her tests are hard, but you will pass as long as you read your materials. RECORD HER LECTURES! When she says study 2-3 hours a day, she means it.
Lots of lectures. Make sure to allow time for studying and do the study guides. Also, don't miss a class because a lot of information is covered in each class period. She will mark you down for being 5 minutes late with an assignment regardless of the circumstance; a complete stickler for turning things in on time.
This professor is a gift from the gods. She is amazing at teaching. If you have the opportunity to take her. DO IT. She makes everything so understandable. She definitely tough but as long as you put in the work she will make the class a breeze the way she teaches.
If you want to take a professor who is great but also challenges you I definitely recommend her class! Hopefully in the future i'll have the pleasure of attending one of her classes again!
Dr. P is amazing. The class is very hard, but she wants to set you up for success later on. Very organized, followed syllabus directly and gives great feedback and plenty of resources. STUDY, take all advice she gives on the first day of class for she is not kidding. She breaks things down in a great way for you to understand. HW through Pearson.
I am taking her bio 190 lecture online due to covid. Typically you're suppose to watch 2 lecture videos each week like you have in class normally, BUT EACH VIDEO IS 2-3 hours long!!! In person lectures are usually 1 hr and 20 min. She is DEF using this time to stay on schedule, because these lecture vids are not w/in the time frame!!!
I have her during all this COVID online situation and I DO NOT recommend getting her online. The videos are just drastically long. She gives two videos a week but some of them are up to 3 hours!! Each class is normally 1 hour and about 20 minutes. One video of hers is like 2 in one. Her exams are to specific that you will fail.
She wants her students to fail. The majority of the grade is on the exams, exams are very difficult. I studied multiple hours a day and still barely passed. I do not recommend her AT ALL.
lectures of 3.5+ hours long, homework is even longer, quizes and exams made to fail, add to this the lab hours, the class is made for someone who does not work and is not taking any other class, is way too much I had to audit, if you are good in math and have bio background and have lots of free time you will still fail and take the class 3 times.
Dr. Preite is a funny professor who is wonderful at explaining biology in great detail. She provides study guides for exams, but make sure that you understand the material because she rewords things in a tricky way and a lot of her questions are hypothetical. I never read the textbook, but I would use it when working on the study guides. STUDY!!
Do not be intimidated, Prof. Preite goes deep on her lectures BUT it is doable and easy to understand. I recommend taking electives when taking this class so that all your time can go to this class. Lectures are extremely long, do her study guides and review blank power points with pics only and tell it to others. That helped me maintain my A.
I loved Dr. P! I would go to her office hours and she helped me out a lot! She was very personable and easy to talk to as well. Her lectures could run a bit long sometimes but you can tell she really cares about the subject and wants her students to learn. Just study, ask for help, and you will do great.
Even though her lectures are long, I really enjoyed learning from her. She has a sense of humor and you can really tell she loves what she does. Homework takes a while so don't procrastinate. The only reason I got a B was that I did not have her as a Lab instructor.
Very nice and caring teacher but the workload sucked. The homework was about 40 questions with the audited exams being about 60. I didnt understand a thing going on in class because she would have us learn through a pre-recorded lecture and then ask questions during the class period. I am sure she is a great professor for some, just not for me!
Amazing! Dr. P really cares about her students, easily accessible, gives good feedback, patient. She repeats herself a lot (dif video lectures) but you really learn the material. She provides her powerpoint slides to take notes. Tests are closed book, multiple choice and short answer, material from lectures. I would definitely take her again!
Exams are very difficult and your entire grade really depends on them. Very long drawn out lecture videos. She is very unforgiving with any late work. I noticed that on some exams not even one single student in my entire class got 100% and that says something.
Dr. P is a real gem. She is definitely very tough all around but she cares for her students and goes above and beyond to see them succeed. While taking this class I was miserable, now in retrospect, she set me up for success for all my later prerequisites. She is truly gifted at teaching. Youll never forget what you learned in this class.
The class is pretty hard. I take 4/6 exams so far and the mean of test is always around 40/85. However, I honestly think that Dr. P teaches really well. It is just my own problem. The grade on your exams would probably determine your final grade for this class. Long lecture (about 2 or more than 3 hours).
I took this course in the summer so everything was fast-paced. Dr P is a really good teacher she is also very funny. Quizzes use lockdown browser but she does allow you to use notes. Exams are recorded and notes are not allowed. Best advice for this class is to do everything she says on day one if you listen to her and do that you will have no prob
This class is not for the faint of heart, specifically during the summer - it is jam packed with info for good reason. However Dr. P was so passionate about what she was teaching it kept me engaged during her long lecture videos. Im in A&P right now and she has definitely made me feel more confident going into a class that I was so nervous for!
online. Lectures are loooong. Tests are HARD. She expects you to understand & know biology as much as she does. Expect hours upon hours of studying for the test, even then, the tests are super hard. I studied no less than 3-4 hours per DAY & still can barely pass. Homework takes at least 1.5 hours. She sets you up to fail. 100% would not take her.
Don't take this class if you work or have kids. She expects you to study 20 hours a week on top of 3-6 hour lectures. Practically killed myself doing so and still only got a 77% at the most on exams. My home and family were completely neglected while taking this course and I still couldn't pass. She's nice, but this is far too much.
do NOT take her class if you arnt going to spend all your time watching long lectures. You basically teach yourself. She makes her quizzes way more difficult than they need to be its like they want you to fail.
Her lectures are way to long I did not find her class helpful at all
I do not recommend taking her class if you are taking other classes. Lectures are way too long. Her quizzes and exams are made to fail. Unless your going to spend all day every day studying do not take it.
I had Carrie Priete for Bio 189 lab and she is difficult. I was getting better grades on the quizzes in lecture more than lab, that is saying something! Carrie makes her quizzes hard, and no matter how hard I studied before lab I could never get a perfect score. Don't take her lab, I can't imagine how she is for lecture. Take someone else!
I never got bored or lost focus in class due to her high energy! She keeps it as interesting as bio can get. Lockdown browser is required for exams. Exams are a big part of your grade, so you definitely need to make time to study because the exams can be rough if you dont completely understand the material. Great professor, but not an easy class.
The lectures were insanely long, much longer than class time is supposed to be. Some were 3+ hours. It is hard to watch all of them when you have other classes. You have to schedule a meeting with her to go over what you got wrong on the test. She is also a semi-harsh grader on the essay. Lockdown browser is used for tests. Tests are not bad.
One of the worst classes I have taken. The reviews about her lectures being very long are true . Idk how she expects you to have a life outside of her class .
Loved her lectures, and I enjoyed taking her classes. It was hard, but Biology was. I learned more from her than from the textbook. She explains things in a way that makes sense. Attendance is not mandatory but I highly recommend going as some concepts were better understood after the lecture.
ONLINE COURSE. She has pre-recorded lectures. The lectures can reach up to an hour to 3 hours. NOW WAIT, before you say I dont want to sit and take notes for 1-3 hours blah blah. it was helpful seriously. She explains things well & youre not learning on your own from the textbookTrust me. Quizzes, Exams, final exam optional. LOCKDOWN BROWSER.
although I really hate science and will be changing my major to business, Dr. P is one of the best professors I've ever had because she knows her stuff. ALL lectures in general suck, but she lets you know in advance all future bio classes are harder which is why I'm changing :* good luck to all and put respect on her name. period
Dr Preite made my experience difficult and challenging. When writing my paper, she made me miserable for a couple weeks, as she accused more than half of the class with plagiarism when at the end of the day she did not get anywhere with her false accusations. She may be a good prof, but not worth the hassle believe me. She is problems and so fake!!
Took her lab for BIOL189 so I did not need the book but there are weekly quizzes that are based off the last lab and some questions with the present lab. She loves what she does and I think that's why sh is a bit picky with her answers but you definitely need to study the outcomes from the last lab. Also clear with instructions and guidelines.
Take notes and ask questions you don't understand. I took her for lab and she is very easy to follow, I wish I took her for lectures as well. She provides videos on a lot of the topics, they helped me a lot! There is a quiz due before the lab that you can take as many times as you want! The practical quizzes is what got me but just study!
Earned a C or a B but that's not her fault.. Good lectures, make sure you take this class in the spring during the spring if you want to see cool plants. It's not an easy class if you aren't a bio major, the first weeks were tough for me because I don't enjoy sitting in classrooms. I did enjoy the field trips though!
You can tell that she loves what she does. She breaks everything down to a T but her lecture's aren't enough. Be prepared to watch lecture videos outside of class that can be up to 3 hours long per unit. If you're more than 10 minutes late to class she wont accept homework. Accepts no late work. Difficult class but you WILL understand material.
Dr. Preite has been one of my favorite professors so far. She is tough in the sense that she lays out what you need to do to succeed in her class, does not baby you and she doesn't sugarcoat things. But, she is so helpful and kind whenever you need advice, extra help or have general questions. She is so knowledgable and makes class fun!
The Professor was great however I was taking chemistry at the same time as taking this class so it was a struggle for me. The lectures and Labs were great but to me, I could not seem to tie in the information learned to apply it on the exams. Exams would be based on what you learned but asked in a way I can't explain lol.
The course itself is not easy, but this professor cares about her students' learning. Teaches every lecture with thorough depth and answers questions. There mainly are 5 exams. You will have homework assignments every week. Occasionally she will do something called flip lectures.
Online summer lecture. 8 weeks is not enough time for the amount of information you need but her lectures are easy to go through as she isn't boring& they open at the beginning of each unit & you can access them anytime. Be ready to study & take it seriously bc this class is a lot of info. HW&quiz each week,5 exams w external webcam&lockdownbrowser
Dr. P was an amazing professor! Took her in the summer semester. Her lectures were clear and coherent. Rarely used the textbook, mostly took notes off of her lecture videos. There were 5 exams that were relatively easy as long as you pay attention to her lectures and take diligent notes. Teaching a friend or a pet the material helped me study!
It almost feels like they want you to fail this course. Make it absolutely difficult on the quizzes to answer because they try to trick you into answering something wrong and reword the questions very confusing. I recommend if you are taking this class, do NOT take it with Professor Carrie. Absolute nightmare.
Stay clear of this vile human if you want to pass Biology. You have been warned!
LECTURE: I love her. She is funny, energetic, kind, and entertaining. If you have a question she does not make you feel dumb, you can go to her office hours. Her exams are not hard if you study and make sure you turn in your homework. Only flip lectures are mandatory to attend. I would 100% recommend her
Loved it! Understood her lectures She uploads her video lectures. Flip lectures are mandatory to attend there are 5 one for each unit&5 exams. The final exam is optional if all 5 exams were taken. She tries to help out her students the best she can. Studying for her course is time-consuming suggest using her study guides they have what you need
Dr.P is amazing AMAZING she will teach you and provide EVERYTHING you need to pass you just need to apply yourself and study study study this class is hard no matter what professor you chose but she makes it a great experience by helping you understand it !! I really recommend taking her if your serious about passing this class
Professor Carrie's class is challenging, but engaging. Attend lectures, take detailed notes, and utilize study tools like Unstuck ai to succeed. The workload is heavy, but you'll leave with a solid understanding of the material.
Dr. P is a gift sent from the biology gods I truly don't understand the handful of negative reviews. She understands you aren't a pro at biology coming in and teaches you in a way you will for sure understand. Her lectures aren't your typical boring lectures they're actually interesting and entertaining. I wish I could take her for all my classes.
Dr. P is very judgmental and often rude. During on-campus labs, she can be overheard gossiping about students from other classes, often very negatively. In the field, she has zero patience for questions. If you mishear her or ask her to repeat anything, she will grumpily say, "I already said that". Sometimes she was funny. Extra credit available
One thing about this teacher is she will try to trip you up on exam you do at the start of class. She provides barley any material but the lab material to study for your exam. Which it doesn't provide much to study with. She's also so biased when grading the exams as well. I'm getting better grades on my lecture exams... that says a lot.
be aware of who u sit with the first day they will be ur lab partners the rest of the year even if they refuse to help and inhibit your learning. The professor doesn't care and will laugh with other students when you don't do something correct. this class reminds me of highschool in the worst way. don't even get me started on the quizzes.👎
Personally, I love her. With her lectures she was SO GOOD at explaining all of the biochem processes. If it weren't for her, or if I had another professor, I probably would have struggled SO much. Love the queen!
Dr. Preite was not bad by any means, but believe it when your advisors urge against online lecture for BIOL classes. It was hard to exhaust the benefits of this professor because this course didn't prioritize engagement and was entirely self-paced. Dr. Preite herself could effectively convey concepts, just not in a way I understood.
Honestly this professor is a pain. During lecture she'll talk about one topic & randomly switch to another without finishing the first topic. She doesn't let us use any notes for her 80 questions exam/quiz and marks it wrong for misspelling. If you're going to take her course pay attention, take notes, & read your bio book that'll teach you more.
There are different ways to study—hard or smart. Dr. Preite represents the study hard type: she truly cares and works tirelessly, creating a heavy workload for both her students and herself. Depending on your learning style, you might spend 20+ hours a week following her method to grasp the concepts—or approach it with clear logic and study smart.
Every biol class will be hard no matter what. This professor has very interesting lectures that help you understand everything. Not a lot of homework is assigned. Most of your grade comes from the exams. You aren't allowed to use notes on the exams but if you studied enough you should be fine. Please study often this goes for any biol class.
Dr Preite is one of the best professors I ever had. She truly wants her students to learn and does a fantastic job explaining the material. The course is not easy and it requires a lot of studying but she makes the process fun. 100 percent recommend.
Many mixed reviews, but as a student who learns by getting taught like a 10 year old, Dr. P helped me learn lots about biology. She lets you print out the blank template slides that will be presented so you follow along. Homework online. Option to take exam at testing center or at home w/ webcam. Overall a very passionate professor! Will miss her.
This class was basically a repeat of everything that you learn in BIOL191 and ENV101. It is unnecessarily hard the way she grades tests and the 2 papers you write during class. The easiest part of the course though is the weekly research papers; as long as you have the right ideas, you'll get a 95% at the lowest.
Professor Preite is approachable, humble, and a great teacher. Her class is lecture-heavy with activities, fair grading, and quizzes that can be tricky. She clarifies concepts well, holds flexible office hours, and sets expectations clearly. I'd 1000% recommend her for any first-year college student.
