This class had way too many assignments, from SimBio to Tophat to 2-3 weekly quizzes. Her powerpoints will not make sense unless you go to class. Her exams are specific to what she physically says in class, and are extremely hard. Not an organized class.
This class is horrible! She gives many too many unnecessary assignments and acts like we don't have other classes that we take. There are multiple quizzes and reading assignments each week that are completely pointless. Her test are hard and her powerpoint are not any help. Don't take her.
She gave us an 84 page reading assignment on The Origin of Species we had to finish in a week. That's too extra! Her tests are not very well worded and asked about the most minute details. I would memorize like crazy for her class, but it's not impossible. Nice personality and funny, but it's not translating to preparing students well.
Very self taught, exams are hard. Unnecessary assignments and questionable teaching skills.
I agree that she gives a lot of unnecessary assignments that don't relate to the tests, & she has a habit of wasting lectures on small activities. It's almost like she treats her classes like high school classes instead of the lectures they are. If you are not good at learning on your own, I wouldn't suggest it. She's not terrible though.
As the others have stated, there are innumerable amounts of unnecessary assignments given throughout the course that do not help you gain knowledge on the subject. Her quizzes and tests are very ambiguous and even if you attend class or study, each exam she gives is way too hard. Activities are pointless. I dont recommend at all.
She's all over the place, her assignments are all over the place, her PowerPoints are all over the place. You might as well be drunk while going to class tbh. Because maybe then you would understand it better. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. Coming from someone who got A's and B's in chem and Ochem. She tries to do too many group activities and assignments
She is a very caring and passionate teacher. The Lectures are very useful, but studying outside of the class is necessary if you want to do well on the test. The class can be a bit annoying because she tries to do group work, but it is not that bad. There is some homework, but it is not overwhelming.
She answers any and all questions thuroughly and makes sure you understand the material IF you ask questions. Her lectures can be fast paced when shes lecturing, but I find a lot of her discussion based lectures to be enjoyable and productive. The tests are tricky but if you take thurough notes about what she says in class, the class is not bad.
She gives allot of work but will let you drop several, including an exam. Her lectures are fine and she has an 84 class average (pretty good compared to what some teachers aim for) . Very nice and caring professor. Offers extra credit for evaluation. I scored higher in this class than gen chem and ochem
Avoid taking her. Everytime she mentioned doing an activity I audibly groaned. She does not organize her time well and it feels as though her tests are made right before you take it as there are many errors. She's caring but her tests are hard and her teaching does not prepare you well enough. The course itself isn't hard but she makes it difficult
I LOVE her. She's very enthusiastic about the material and does her best to make the class engaging. You can tell she cares about what she's teaching. It's not a difficult class and I've heard she's easier than the other bio 1108 professors. A little all over the place organization wise, but if you're ok with that definitely take her.
Lots of small assignments to do each week, so you just have to stay on top of it and then it's pretty easy. Material is easy to grasp and presented well, though prepare to spend a lot of time doing group discussion. If you attend class and focus while you're there, it's a breeze.
The class is difficult but it isn't impossible. She cares more about you being able to apply the concepts than memorize terms. There's lots of homework which can add up. I failed 2/3 tests but the homework scores helped so I still have a B. You have to go to class everyday but she's very nice and energetic.
She's a really nice lady, but her lectures do not correlate with her power points. In order to get any relevant information you need to attend class. The things she lectures about barely cover material on the tests. You definitely need to use outside resources to get the grade you want.
she goes super fast during the lectures; when you look at the powerpoints, most of the slides are pictures. she caught people skipping, trying to get their attendance points through tophat. the tests are way harder than they should be, and you had to know minute details for the test. nice lady tho with good intentions
Dr. Pucko is a nice person and she entertains her students very well. She honestly doesn't assign us much homework, so what the other people have said about the her homework load simply isn't true. But the major dealbreaker about her class are the confusing exams. She ends up making a lot of corrections during and after the exam which messes people
Class was poorly organized. The information is pretty easy to understand, but she goes out of her way to make exams and quizzes confusing. On top of that, she has an irrational fear that all students want to cheat, so she hesitates to post any information about old exams or exam like ?'s. Struggled a little in the class and got A's in both OChems
Pucko makes this class so stressful. There's lots of hw and the tests are pretty hard. Class is lecture based with way too much "talking in our little groups". Go to class, or you'll miss tons of info that she doesn't put in the powerpoints that she posts on eLC. Pay attention to deadlines for assignments cause they could make or break your grade!
While Dr. Pucko is an extremely nice lady, the kicker of the class were those tests from hell. Miss one class and you're done for because the powerpoints are all pictures and all information comes from her mouth. The tests were extremely specific and you could know all of the material and still not understand many of the questions fully.
Dr. Pucko is a very nice professor, who is extremely accessible outside of class. While her homework and quizzes are INCREDIBLY time-consuming, they really help boost your grade in the end. She is very lecture heavy, so attending class is crucial. Her tests can be convoluted, but they are still WAY better than those of Stanger-Hall's.
She's a nice lady, but her class is very unorganized. There are a lot of assignments that are unnecessary and are not relevant to the tests.
Carrie is a very nice professor, but her teaching and organization skills are really lacking. She uses PPTs for her lectures and most of them felt as if they were created for a middle school class. Three tests (lowest one dropped) plus a final in this class. The tests were hard because she doesn't know how to make questions that are not subjective.
Overall, Dr. Pucko is a very good professor. She cares a lot about her students and really wants you to understand biology. The shocker comes when you take her tests; the material discussed in class is easier than what's assessed on her exams because her exams are so concept heavy. Don't skip class, she does clickers and tries to boost your grade!
Really passionate about bio and is the most consistently happy professor I've ever had. Tests are difficult and you must pay attention to what she says in class to do well. Cons: pointless in class activities, partial group tests, confusing quiz/test questions. If you are willing to put effort and actually want to learn, getting an A is possible!
She's a passionate and caring professor. She's really nice. But as an instructor, she is unorganized and her tests are difficult/ concept heavy. She sometimes made us spend time on useless / irrelevant stuff. Bio with Carrie wasn't a worse experience, but I don't think I would take her again.
She is so sweet, but expects a lot of outside class work (weekly ELC quiz, simbio, in the news quizzes, etc.). You can't rely on her powerpoints since they are mostly pictures. Listen and take notes from what she says, not from the power points. She did a lot of group activities and test questions came from those. A test grade was dropped.
Dr. Pucko was very energetic but sometimes hard to follow. At least 1, usually 2 online quizzes a week, but the tests were the majority of the class. Group test portions were 20% of test grade, but can't pick your group. Tougher than expected.
Dr. Pucko is very passionate about biology and tries to make her lectures exciting with lots of group discussion. There was a lot of busy work and weekly eLC quizzes that I felt didn't help prepare for the test. Her test questions are worded weirdly. Most of the material comes from the lecture slides which she also posts on eLC.
A good teacher but quizzes and tests are tricky. An A is possible. Take notes in class and write down anything important she says. Memorize every detail of those notes and for concepts that are unclear use outside resources (Khan academy). Tophat. Weekly quizzes (none dropped). 3 exams (one dropped) and a final. Hard but not as hard as gen chem.
Very nice, but very disorganized. PowerPoints insulted my intelligence. Tests are way harder than they need to be because of the lack of her lecture and PowerPoint skills. I'm counting on assignments outside of tests to help my grade. Test material barely reflects Powerpoint slides.
Dr. Pucko is lecture-heavy--the powerpoints do get monotonous. But she is lovely and wonderfully funny. Tests were easy if you've taken bio courses in the past (I knew most of the info from high school AP Bio). If you pay attention and can put two and two together (think big ideas and how those interconnect), then you can get an A.
I thought she was great. Clearly cares about her student's success. Her lectures were interesting, and she was very good about helping students outside of class. Tests were not impossible if you study well, although occasionally her test questions are confusing. There are a lot of cushion grades, so if you dont do well on tests you'll still be fine
This was a class that was much more difficult that it should have been. Her tests in my opinion are very unfair and even if you show up to class and study its up in the air what grade you will get. Her powerpoint are 90% pictures which doesn't help while studying. She is really really nice person though.
This class was unassuming. Her material seems easy but the tests make a huge jump in difficulty. Her power-points are NO HELP studying so you MUST take excellent notes. She makes it seem like everything is easy but it is not. Try to take someone else if you can. If you can't, then be prepared to do a lot of work yourself. She's nice though.
Take someone else. You will fail tests no matter how much you study because her tests are extremely weird.
I thought I was great at biology until I took this class and started doing terrible. The tests are insanely difficult and the lectures don't prepare you for them at all, even if you do take down all of the notes. All of the test and quiz questions rely heavily on inference and deep understanding, and you don't even get assigned a textbook to use.
I LOVED Pucko. She was always very upfront about what was going to be on each test. Some of her test questions were tricky, but if you study properly for them it won't be an issue. The weekly quizzes and Simbio labs definitely helped out my grade. She also offers a few opportunities for extra credit. She was always very positive and helpful.
Shes a sweet lady, but her tests are unfair. They are extremely difficult and specific. I studied a lot for her tests and knew the information but still got low grades. Take the other professor!!!
Pucko was a good professor but like everyone said, her tests questions are difficult. Her powerpoint slides from lecture would be really general and then her tests would be really specific. However, other class activities like quizzes, simbio and homework help to balance your grade and she gives extra credit.
Everyone complains about Pucko, but her tests ARE doable if you THOROUGHLY understand the concepts. She offers a TON of cushion grading, overall a good class! If you cant handle this class, you arent cut out for o-chem, which offers zero cushion for tests. So many other grades to help your test grade, and she is accessible and kind. love her!
Dr. Carrie cracks many jokes during class to make it interesting and made us break out in mini group discussions multiple times during lecture (to me, the discussions wasted time I could've been elsewhere). She's a decent professor overall, but her lectures (ESPECIALLY her ppt slides) can be a bit all over the place sometimes, so brace yourself.
PowerPoints and lectures were very surface level and she could not clearly answer most questions during class. Test questions were worded wierdly and presented on a higher level than lecture. If you have a choice, dont take her. Otherwise, try to go beyond the lecture material when studying. PowerPoints will not gaurantee a good test grade.
Very sweet professor and has a bubbly personality which helps make class more interesting. Her tests were tricky at some points, but the sheets she gives in class actually help. Also has the tendency to cram hella info into one section making tests jam-packed with info you have to learn. Just study beyond her ppt. Go above and beyond for her class.
Pucko is a nice and sweet person but not a very good professor. She has way too much out of class work that count for a small percentage of the overall grade. The tests are based on lecture and her powerpoint which rarely have any detailed information and are full of random animations and pictures. She wastes class time on discussion and tophat.
BIOL 1108 should not be a hard class, but it is with Dr. Pucko. Her level of teaching does not correspond with the tests she gives us. She is a nice person, but you will end up doing most learning for the tests on your own. The tests themselves are not intuitive either.
Dr. Pucko's Biology 1108 class was not too bad. Her tests are difficult because the questions are long and sometimes confusing. She adds a lot of extra work outside of class like weekly quizzes and Simbio, but those can help your grade if you do them. She is very nice and tries to make her lectures interesting. The lab portion of the class sucks.
Dr. Parr (Pucko) is a nice and enthusiastic person but as a professor, she failed to teach her material in an objective way. Her test questions were confusing because she writes them based on made up scenarios and the reasoning behind choosing an answer is sometimes arguable.
Dr. Pucko really knows what shes teaching, and she wants everyone to do well. She explains her lectures really well, is always super enthusiastic, and knows her stuff. Her tests are tough, but you get to retake 2/4 of them at the end, and with how well she teaches everything it shouldnt be an issue. Id take her again in a heartbeat!
Tophat for attendance almost daily. Really energetic and loves what she teaches. Tests are pretty hard but doable if you go to class & take notes. Weekly homework quizzes over the weekend. She's funny and the material is pretty easy to understand.
Dr. Pucko's level of teaching does not equate with the tests she gives us. The tests are hard and she teaches the material as if it is easy, but it is not that easy on the test. Highly recommend another professor for BIOL 1108
Shes super nice and a good lecturer. Theres a good variety of stuff in class and it actually helps me learn. The tests are pretty difficult, but there are also quizzes, homework, and online labs to help, and she gave extra credit at the end.
She does not explain material well at all and she makes her test unreasonably hard and difficult compared to her lectures.
In class content seems elementary and isn't went into detail, then the tests are incredibly hard going into extreme detail and random made up scenario questions that you would have no idea how to even prepare for. Not too much homework, but the tests are graded so heavily homework couldn't save me.
Dr. Pucko acts like this class is easy because her slides have like 10 words on them and tons of pictures. WRONG- her tests are crazy hard. This is an intro bio course and yet the questions she asks are so unclear that it is almost impossible to get an A on tests and quizzes. VERY conceptual even though the concepts aren't.
Pucko is a fun lecturer and nice lady, but the way her class is taught does not reflect the rigor of the tests. There is no textbook and only bare minimum slides that do not prepare you for her VERY DIFFICULT tests. She either needs to give her students more comprehensive study materials or reduce the rigor of the tests.
Dr. Pucko is an amazing professor! I know that there are many that complain about her tests, but you should definitely be able to make an A if you attend lecture every day. Most of the test material comes from things she mentions in class but does not have on the powerpoints. She gives 10 points extra credit at the end.
Shes a very nice lady and very energetic, but her tests are nothing like the lectures. In lecture she makes it seem easy by giving powerpoints that arent detailed and doing class activities, but the tests are extremely detailed. Dont take her if you are expecting an A....
She is a very funny professor and makes lectures fun by engaging with the students. Go to lectures to get the "hidden" info she wont put on the slides. She makes you apply the knowledge you know, rather than just regurgitate it back to her. Her test are hard but if you learn the material instead of the definitions you will pass.
She is one of my favorite professors at UGA! she is very nice and approachable. Tests are based on powerpoint slides so you don't have to read the book. The only thing that I didn't like about her class is a group test. I got A's on every individual tests but didn't do well on the group tests
She is a really likable professor. The tests just weren't very great. The group tests were annoying because I could never trust anyone but myself.
Tests are crazy hard compared to her lectures. She expects you to know detailed information forwards and backwards for tests. TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR!!
She's really not that bad!! If you study throughly and understand the concepts, getting an A should not be a problem!!
I really enjoyed Dr. Pucko! The class was much easier than BIOL 1107, and the topics were more interesting as well. She makes lectures fun and really tries to help you do well! The tests are similar to the online quizzes that are assigned every week, and reviewing the powerpoints and the quiz questions will help you prepare and do well on tests.
Honestly if u think this class is crazy hard, now is the time to switch major. Just major in business or something thats not science-related :) dont waste your time & energy
Dr. Pucko was very enthusiastic. I really enjoyed the class. Pay attention in class and you will do fine. Studied for about 2-3 hours for each test and never made below an A. She gives easy group tests that are worth a third of the individual test grade. Would recommend.
To address some of the earlier ratings, a *few* of her rest questions are very specific but most of them do a good job at making you apply concepts that she clearly covered. Theres a bit of work for this class, and as long as you attend lecture everyday, do all assignments, and study a few days before the tests you should be fine.
I enjoyed her class very much. She was enthusiastic and very responsive to questions. I didn't think the tests were bad at all.
As everyone else has said, this course has very difficult and tricky tests. My problem is that I was on the cusp of a grade letter change and emailed her to see what I could do about it. She responded in saying that she wouldn't review my grades again and that I would learn a lesson from receiving the lower grade. Very upsetting.
She is really sweet and if you come to class every day, you will be fine. Participation is a small portion of grade, but if you miss a couple classes, it will not affect you. The test questions are fine if you are familiar with material and study a few hours.
The tests are a little tricky and unfortunately since she now doesnt drop one, it can definitely ruin your chances of an A if you mess one up. I thought she was very bubbly and good in class and attendance matters but isn't too effected by a few skips. Overall Pucko is a solid choice and covers material enthusiastically, do the work.
The material itself is easy but her tests are not, she makes it so much harder than it needs to be. The lectures are nothing like the tests and she gives difficult quizzes every week. Pick another professor!!!
She was a good speaker and took her time but did not always cover everything thoroughly.
Came off as an easy class in lecture, but the tests were ridiculously worded. I would know the material back and forth and still make Bs on every exam. The questions were worded in a way that confused you completely. Take another professor if you can, the material for 1108 isn't hard but her tests twisted the material.
You can't just skip class and look over her powerpoints. The tests involve a lot of what she explains in class and it can get pretty in-depth compared to what is written. She definitely seems enthusiastic about what she teaches, which makes the class more interesting. Overall, it wasn't a super difficult class, but it does require some effort.
Can't skip lecture because uploaded ppt's don't have all the information you need for tests. All class activities, hw, quizzes, and tophat are all helpful for test. Lectures are really interesting and she really cares about learning however that test grade WILL NOT COME EASY. Study your hardest, use office hours, ask questions and don't get lazy
Attendance is mandatory. The tests are very hard due to the wording, even if you know the information well. I'd say they are still fair, even though they are difficult. Homework, quizzes, and simbio are all built in grade boosters. Ask her about extra credit at the beginning of the semester. Go to office hours and review your tests.
Pucko is a great biology teacher and really cares about students learning and understanding material. If you take good notes and attend class you should be able to make an good grade. Yes the tests are specific when it comes to material but, there is nothing on the tests that she didn't cover in class if you were paying attention.
Pucko is by far my favorite prof. She gives hard tests, but if you go to class and take good notes it's fine. Taking notes is key bc she posts her slides but explains them in detail in class, so you can't skip and read over them. Study a little before the group tests and a lot before the individual. SUPER helpful in office hours. EC available.
Pucko is one of my favorite professors I have even had. She is approachable and super caring for her students. The material isn't that hard if you took biol1107 and she is a great teacher. definitely the best choice for 1108.
Pucko is so nice and funny. She lectures in a way that is very easy to understand and does not make the class any harder than it needs to be. Very little work outside of going to class and studying for tests. Gives group exams the day before individual exams which help show you what you need to study more.
Pucko is a sweet lady that is super passionate about her work, specifically ecology. She gives more assignments than normal but they help when it comes to learning the material. Her tests can be tricky but as long as you take notes and listen to lectures it should be relatively easy. She also does group tests.
I tried to get out of Pucko's class because of her rate my professor score, but I'm so glad I took bio with her. Relatively easy tests with lots of homeworks and quizzes to boost your grade. Loved the class, learned a lot, and it helped my GPA!
Dr. Pucko seems like a very kind person, but she is absolutely the worst lecturer I have ever had. I left every lecture just feeling confused and the tests asked absurdly specific questions that seemed more focused on testing if you were listening to her every word than if you understood the material.
At first she seemed fine and then as the semester went on it just got worse. Took over two months to get things graded, and her tests are meant to confuse you based on the bogus scenarios she comes up with. Her lectures arent the best because she skips around material and it seems to be confusing- even for her. She didnt offer us ec.
Dr. Pucko isn't as bad as everyone makes her out to be. I felt like a couple of things, like making us go to the Botanical Gardens and the Ecology project, were a bit annoying but her lectures were great and I learned so much from them. 4 individual tests and 4 group tests (one being dropped) with simbio labs, weekly online quizzes and homework.
The lectures are great, and she is really nice, don't get me wrong. There are random tophat questions so attendance is pretty mandatory but you can get by skipping a few days. She assigns randomly for the group project and group tests--> very annoying if you get a bad group.
Ms. Pucko is such a fun teacher. I loved coming to her class and she lecture fun and interesting. Shes a very personal and genuine person and is always smiling which put me in a better mood. She also actually challenges her students within reason so the material was never boring and we got to go on a cool field trip.
Best bio teacher hands down. I loved coming to her class bc she made lecture fun and interesting. She is very personal and genuine and is always smiling which put me in a better mood. Her tests really were not that bad as long as you listened in class and studied her powerpoints, which she posts. She words her test questions just like she talks IRL
Pucko bounces around material within a lecture and ill tell ya, it is hard to follow. I have had to sort through my notes to organize them every time after a lecture, but the lectures are insightful and I do learn from them. Her test are fair, but the way she organizes her thoughts and relays them to us could be presented in a more coherent way.
Pucko is sweet and fun. Lectures are easy to understand; she uses creative examples and activities in class that make you want to learn the material. Sit near the front, she won't randomly call on you, so don't worry. You HAVE to study for exams. She posts the notes but attendance is important to fully understand them. I'll probably make a B.
One of the worst professors I have ever had. She makes lecture material seem very easy and basic and the questions from the class are straightforward. BUT her test are really really difficult. I' not even sure how to tell someone to study because her slides, quizzes, and study guides are no help. I love biology but this class has ruined it for me.
Lots of lecture material on the tests! The tests are definitely hard to study for, but can be done if you work and really try to apply the knowledge you learn (like AP Bio). I really liked her as a professor and she made me fall in love with biology again. Very application based class. Get ready to learn! She also lets you retake any tests.
Mrs. Pucko definitely loves what she teaches, so that makes it easier to want to learn it. She's always willing to help if you have questions or elaborate on things if she can. The tests are almost solely about deeper thinking, so you will need to understand concepts instead of memorizing facts for the most part.
Pucko is extremely passionate about what she teaches and it is evident through her lectures. Class is lecture heavy with quizzes, online assignments, and tests/group tests. The material appears easy in class, but her test often consist of difficult scenarios to follow. Overall, she is a really nice professor, test were just confusing.
She is a great and energetic teacher. She gives a lot of time for discussion but most students just sit in silence. Compared to most other science classes (chem, biochem, etc.) it is not at all difficult. Study for group tests and normal tests and do the homework and you'll get an A no problem. I don't understand how people complain about her.
My favorite science professor here so far. Her lectures are fun to listen to. There are tophat questions daily but they are usually just for participation so it's okay to get them wrong. There were lots of group worksheets to do but we usually finished in class. We got to visit the botanical garden. Group & Individual tests. No final, just retakes.
She is very passionate about what she teaches and wants her students to do well. Show up and be present for class and youll be fine. No reason not to get an A or at least a B
Not sure why her ratings are so low.. Pucko is SUCH a sweet and caring woman. Her tests can be a little tricky, but her class overall is very do-able and isn't that bad. Keep up with the quizzes and other assignments and you'll be fine (Even if you don't do so hot on the tests) Group + Individual Tests// Attendance is mandatory!! Def recommend her
Dr. Pucko is a great professor & she is very enthusiastic about biology, even at 8am when no one else is excited to be there. You can miss about 3 days of class with no penalty, but the more lectures you attend, the better you'll do on the exams. If you make the effort, it is definitely possible to get an A.
I struggled with this class initially. It was hard getting used to the class because at first, the class seems easy. In reality, it is not. The INDIVIDUAL TESTS are hard. The material on the ppt will only help you so much, so find other things to study like the quizzes. You prob won't fail this class, but know that you will have to fight for an A.
Dr. Pucko is an amazing professor. Her tests are somewhat difficult, but her questions are meant to challenge you to apply concepts rather than just memorize them. I really enjoyed her lectures as she was always very engaging and cheerful. If you need any help, she is always willing to help you during office hours.
Amazing professor and a very sweet person. Her tests are can be kinda hard, but GO TO CLASS, and PAY ATTENTION to literally everything she says. There is no textbook. A lot of stuff on tests is based on stuff she says in class that isnt in the notes; record her lectures if you have to. 60% of your grade is tests, the other 40% is an easy 100.
I love this woman. Seriously, she is so passionate about the class and loves engaging with students. Her lectures are rarely ever boring and always make sense. I wish there were more professors like Pucko at UGA.
I seriously would never recommend someone else over her. She wants you to learn biology & enjoy it & I think her lectures are interesting & entertaining. Tests can be tricky but if you study your notes & practice, you will do fine. There are group tests, which is the only thing I didn't like, but she drops one at the end.
Best professor ever and sweet person. She lectures with such enthusiasm that you cant help but smile and love her class. GO TO CLASS! The tests are largely based on what she said in class but isnt on the ppt. Theres no textbook. Tests are hard, but know the lectures in and out and you will get an A. Group exams sucked tho. Also, shes cute ;).
I have no idea why people are complaining of her tests - sure, the wording may have been tricky, but her tests were easy to study for. Make sure you attend class and pay attention and there should be no reason that anyone should fail the test. She is hilarious and makes class worth it. She also provides plenty of opportunities to raise your grade.
Prof Pucko is literally one of the nicest professors at UGA. Pretty lecture heavy but she is so enthusiastic about what she's teaching, it literally made it easier to get out of bed for her 8am class. Lots of assignments that count for different weights so one bad test won't screw your grade. Drops a lot of assignments at the end of the term too.
Pucko is nice, and her lectures aren't bad, but the tests are near impossible when using material she covers in class. Here tests aren't weighted as heavy, which is a saving grace, but would not take her because of how stressful her class was. I was ALWAYS doing work and ALWAYS worried about what my grade was. Literally didn't know grade until end.
One of my fav profs at UGA. She really cares about Biology and her students and is really accessible. If you go to class, take notes, and review your notes, the tests aren't hard. There's tricky wording, but it's all stuff she warns you about ahead of time. The extra assignments are easy grade cushions. Learned so much and genuinely loved the class
Prof. Pucko is my favorite professor I've ever taken at UGA. She is incredible nice and approachable. Her tests are hard but if attend the lectures and make an effort you should be fine. I would say as long as you take this class seriously you can get an A.
Midway through the sem and just wanted to say that I enjoy her class. Yes, her quizzes and exams are hard as other reviews have said, but they are definitely doable. Make sure to really understand what's going on rather than memorizing facts. She is very approachable outside of class and genuinely cares about your understanding of the material.
The semester is just over halfway done and today we had our second unit test, but my alarm didn't go off so I got in the zoom meeting like 30 minutes late and she was so understanding and nice she just let me take the test with the next class. Her lectures are long, but not boring (unless you just don't like biology), and the homework is simple
I can't believe Carrie has such a low rating. Her lectures are great and she is VERY accessible to students. She is so nice and very helpful. Her exams are very conceptually based so if you do not understand the concepts well, then you wont do well on the exam (she warns about this). Just watch and take notes on the lectures and you will be fine.
I don't know why her rating is so low. She is an amazing and funny teacher, her lectures are super interesting. If you watch the lectures and go to class you should get an A easy. She's also super available outside of class for help.
Easily one of the best teachers I've had at UGA. She does lecture a lot, and you need to take good notes, but if you do the tests are really simple. Also, she is so nice and funny! 100% would recommend.
great bio teacher, knows the material and makes lectures interesting, esp since we were online. There is no textbook reading but she gives simbio every unit which is helpful for the class. She gives extra credit and weekly review quizzes. Only 4 exams and you're able to retake the first 3 during finals. One issue- bad at emailing back.
My friend took Farmer for 1108 and she had a difficult time in the class because she didn't know what to study for tests. Dr. Pucko does a good job of teaching the material so as long as you pay attention and take notes there's very little studying you need for tests. There is a good amount of weekly work that you need to keep up with though
Dr. Pucko is a very caring and knowledgeable professor. Although her tests are tough, she offers retakes at the end of the semester and lots of other booster assignments. She makes lectures interesting with her energy
Dr. Parr doesn't deserve all of the low ratings on here. She's so kind & is really passionate about teaching, & her class was so manageable as long as you put in the work. Tests are a little tricky but not bad, & there are so many HW assignments to do that can boost your grade (which can be good if you actually do them but might hurt if not).
Carrie is an absolute GEM! Of course the class is going to be moderately difficult because it is your average STEM course but Carrie makes it fun to learn, and very easy to grasp concepts. She gives extra credit, and her group exams help your grade a lot. The exams were open note this semester which was great. TAKE HER CLASS the best for Bio 1108
Easily the best teacher I have had at UGA. She is so nice, her lectures are interesting, and she gives lots of grade-boosting activities. Her tests are honestly easy-average, as long as you actually watch/attend lecture and take good notes. Not much studying required if you do this up front. If you dont skimp on your end, its an easy A.
I am honestly surprised that Dr. Pucko does not have a 5.0 rating. Especially with the pandemic, she has gone above and beyond to make sure all her students succeed. Her class was fully online, mostly asynchronous, and only synchronous once a week. Watch her lectures and take good notes and you should succeed! One of the best professors I've had!!!
Here tests are a tad bit tricky, but overall, pretty fair and not too bad. She gives a ton of different assignments in the class, but this can work in your favor if you aren't the best test taker. Plus, these assignments can help reinforce a lot of the content. I think she's a solid choice for BIOL 1108
shes not bad. bc of covid she posted all lectures & if u took good notes & studied well u can pull an A. must listen to her & not just the ppt. extra credit offered. shes good prof but rude person and not willing to help much so just be aware of that. but shes a solid choice just take good notes bc her she makes her own tests from the lecture.
This class is just so much work. I was always doing random assignments and quizzes that felt like a waste of time. They did come as a grade cushion in the end however. The tests are very tricky, so you need to really study for them. She is a nice person and always willing to help. She is a fair choice, but just be prepared to do a lot of work.
Dr. Pucko was a really nice professor and the class was easy during COVID because all of the exams were open note. Only downfall is that there is a TON of homework. If the tests weren't open note I would imagine this class would've been much harder because of the sheer amount of content.
She's a sweet and understandable professor. Exams are tricky if you didn't study efficiently from her lecture videos, assignments, quizzes. I found her office hours v' helpful when seeking additional help on important topics--truly take advantage of her office hours as she does her best for you to learn. Exams were OPEN NOTE.
Taking BIOL1108 with Pucko-Parr online due to COVID-19 was a lot to keep up with but very doable. Lots of lecture videos and eLC work that doesn't count for a whole lot individually but adds up. Take good notes, review them for tests, and don't try any funny business on the tests because she catches cheating by working together and googling.
Dr. Pucko is a great teacher in my opinion. There is a lot of busy work that she gives in this class but most of it helps you learn the material. The tests are hard but she usually does an amazing job explaining everything. I actually really enjoyed the material in this class and the way she taught it.
Dr. Pucko is extremely enthusiastic in her work and makes first morning lectures bearable. Her conceptual way of teaching is very effective and as long as you take notes and pay attention you will pass. I feel the only difficulty in this class is that she tests your understanding but this is college after all. Though, the exams are open note.
Dr. Pucko is a great prof to have for this class. She's really enthusiastic about the subject and makes lectures entertaining to watch for the most part. The tests aren't terribly hard (in my opinion) and are a bit more application based than memorization. Overall, I loved her class!!
You have to study biology is not just spoon-fed to you but she is alright. She is a little rude when you address her in person but seems very nice over her lectures. Her lectures to me were easy to understand because she breaks them down a lot but the tests get increasingly difficult.
If you want to be forced to present a presentation 10 minutes after a tornado warning, take Pucko. If you want to drive through horrendous storms to present a presentation outside, take Pucko. I could not see the road as I drove to present my presentation. Does not reply to emails in a timely manner.
Dr. Pucko is an amazing teacher. She is extremely enthusiastic and makes the class enjoyable. As long as you pay attention and take decent notes you should pass. Her lectures are great because she actually breaks everything down and explains it as thoroughly as she would expect a student to.
Professor Pucko is a great choice for any bio class at UGA. She is passionate about her job and made biology interesting. Her class is time consuming though (I had her during COVID so we had two or three 20-40 minute lectures twice a week in addition to class). Tests and quizzes are difficult too. If you put in the work you should be fine though.
professor parr is a nice teacher, but she takes forever to post lecture videos and grade assignments. and we had to do and outside presentation during a tornado watch so that wasn't cool. great prof in nice weather though!
Dr. Pucko is super sweet but she is not good at responding to emails and often posts lectures late. However, the lectures were interesting and she made the class interactive and I enjoyed going every week. The tests required a lot of application though.
Dr. Pucko is very nice, but I found her class a little unorganized and random at times. Her lectures are long, and she never posted them at a set time each week so I never knew when to look for them. Tests are heavily application based, so you have to actually understand the information, and even then some questions were still tricky. Overall fine.
Dr. Pucko makes her class so interesting and enjoyable. Her love for the material is so charming and instills college students to better understand the material. Make sure you attend class and do everything she says. Tests are a little tricky, but its expected from a STEM class.
Imma be honest. If you are not good at learning bio, do not take her. Her lectures are very broad but the tests are very specific. I will say shes willing to help when needed. The tests are worth a lot and there are only 3. At the end of the semester you can retake them to get a better grade that will be AVERAGED with your previous test grade.
She is a good person but her class is awful because her lectures are so broad and full of easy content but her tests are disgustingly specific. I legitimately studied every material she gave us every day for two weeks for the first exam and got a 55. 100% avoid her if you can she is not a good teacher.
Dr. Pucko is a really kind, sweet person. I enjoy the way she gives lectures and you can get good notes off them. Your grade in the class definitely depends on your performance on the exams, which were tough but doable. It's not the easiest class, but if you pay attention in lectures, take notes, and study - you'll be fine!
Go to class! Taking good notes on her lectures is the easiest way to do well in this course. Tests are application-based questions but they're similar to the quizzes she gives and aren't too bad if you review. There were generally a couple of assignments on eLC every week, but this class really wasn't homework-heavy compared to other STEM classes.
Her lectures are interesting and incorporate lots of real-life scenarios to help you learn. Tests are pretty hard, be prepared to study lots and be sure to take diligent notes. She's always willing to answer questions and her PLAs are great too!
She's average, I found her lectures interesting and I looked forward to them but she was kind of strange about some things. She's bad about responding to emails, she took a curve on a test away once after SHE was the one who made the mistake, along with some other small things that rubbed me the wrong way. Overall though, she's sweet and > Farmer.
She's very good at being an engaging professor. You'll want to write down nearly everything she says in class. Test questions and review quiz questions are hard and detail-oriented. The final grade is a group project, which isn't ideal but it's fine. There are no curves, and no extra credit.
Go to class, take good notes, pay attention, do the tophats and you should be okay. The weekly review quizzes were always unnecessarily difficult and complicated but they didn't end up bringing my overall grade down too much. Going to lecutre is important for the clicker questions and to understand how she approaches the material on the exams
I did not have a problem with the class, as I felt it was still easier than 1107. HOWEVER, Dr. Pucko has proven to be an awful communicator. She does not respond to emails quickly and will not treat you fairly if you cannot attend office hours. She even stood me up on Zoom once. Easy class, just hope you don't have extra questions.
I liked her teaching style and her lectures were extremely interesting. Her tests were fair as well - as long as you studied hard you were able to get a decent grade! Her weekly review quizzes were helpful in preparing for exams. My only issue was her lack of communication and when she misgraded my test as a failing grade and then removed the curve
I took Pucko my Fall 2021 semester and I thought she was amazing! Her lectures in class align heavily with her tests, so it's important to take good notes and pay attention in class. She offers retakes at the end of the semester, so this was very helpful, especially if you do badly on an exam! She also holds exam reviews and debriefs!
I found her lectures very lackluster and difficult to follow, which is unfortunate because her exams aligned pretty closely with the lecture material. She also doesn't answer emails so if you can't make it to her office hours then it will be hard to get help. Not a difficult class by any means, just wish she was more accessible and organized.
Tests are very hard and her lectures are hard to follow. She's a good person and loves the subject, but she teaches expecting us to have a lot of previous knowledge that isn't always there for every student. Her class is difficult but if you show up, take good notes, and spend a lot of time in office hours a good grade is possible.
Professor Pucko has a great teaching style, but her powerpoints barely have any useful information for when you have to study for tests. You have to remember everything she says in class and take very detailed notes. If you do that, then the class is easier but she goes through slides kind of fast, and in the end, it can be a tad bit stressful.
After taking 1107, this class was a nice break. Dr. Pucko is enthusiastic about the material, and tests were difficult but fair. Be sure to take note of what you learn from in class questions and activities, as some of these are on the test almost verbatim. Dr. Pucko made this class very enjoyable and I would recommend her to anyone.
Dr. Pucko is such a good professor that I've barely had to study for her tests because she just teaches so well, also her power points are so useful in and outside of class for studying!
The class itself is so much better than 1107 and is very interesting! Dr. Pucko is an amazing professor and has a passion for what she teaches, but I will say her test are HARD!!! DO NOT MISS LECTURE you will miss alot. She post her powerpoint but they aren't helpful if you aren't there. Most peeps can get an A- if they do well on test.
She is amazing and I love her topics are truly interesting.
Dr. Pucko is a great teacher and knows a lot about the subject matter. The class can be hard, but make sure to pay attention to her lectures that is the only thing that will help on the tests.
This is supposed to be an intro level class yet she treats it as if were all bio majors getting our masters degree. Her weekly quizzes and tests are nothing like her powerpoints or the information she goes over in lectures. her powerpoints are broad and general while her tests and quizzes are insanely specific. Take anyone else but her.
Pucko is a great lecturer- she makes topics interesting and engaging. However you CANNOT miss lecture- taking detailed notes on everything she says (rather than the slides) is key to doing well on exams. Exams are somewhat difficult but the homework/in class questions aren't bad at all & will help balance out your grade. Overall would take again.
DO NOT TAKE! Her policies make no sense and she is really inconsiderate. In general, her class content does not align with her test material very well and her grading makes zero sense. If you are in the ER she won't excuse your absence. Impossible to reach over email. My worst professor at UGA by FAR. Needs to be let go.
Horrible... In class lecture doesn't align with tests, Review is over random things we were supposed to learn but did not get to. I do not recommend
Her lectures were hard to follow, and her powerpoints do not contain information needed for the exams. She never responded to emails. Select all that apply was one answer on several tests. She was unkind when asked questions. I really felt like she never cared about our success even though she appeared in the beginning to. Do not take.
I can't describe in words how annoying she is. Powerpoints are a joke. Tests are never correct and worded with wrong grammar. I hope she is reading this so she can fix her entire teaching style. She could be a better teacher if she remembered shes teaching a college class and not a middle school class.
She has no resources outside of her powerpoint which only consist of pictures and fragments. Weekly quizzes are much easier than exams and exams go so much more in depth than what we talked about in class. You basically have to write down every word she says to get a decent grade.
Her lectures are extremely hard to follow and she is extremely scatterbrained. The tests are based off of random details she mentioned once in class. She posts absolutely no resources for studying, and her lectures are so difficult to follow it is almost impossible to study for her tests.
Not only does she have the most condescending tone when speaking to her students about genuine questions, she always says "ask questions" or "email me" and won't reply when we do. She gets side tracked on the most useless topics, and then the tests are ridiculously hard which she NEVER curves. She says she cares but clearly not.
Pucko made lectures interesting and she is an overall upbeat and entertaining person. Her tests are always much harder than anything covered in class. The work is manageable, but no matter how much you study the tests always have some curveballs. The final is a group project. She does offer some extra credit at the end of the year.
What professor offers office hours, and then dismisses a student within 5 minutes with a condescending tone? Half the time, I felt idiotic for asking a simple question. The lectures are mainly pictures, and even with 10 hours a week of studying, it felt impossible. Also, the course load can be extremely debilitating. If I could give a 0/5 I would.
Pucko lectured very heavily in class, meaning if you want to do well on the test, you must go to class. She is very bubbly during lectures and nice. The tests are difficult, but she offers extra credit at the end of the year. Overall, if you complete all of the weekly quizzes, go to class, and study hard for the tests, you will do well in the class.
dr. pucko's class was based on going to lecture and studying hard for her tricky test. there is final project that was graded harsher than expected and extra credit was given. retakes are provided for each test, but every test has to be grinded to avoid retakes. dr. pucko is not that bad as others say; she is often nice and friendly during lecture
Both she & her class weren't awful. Do well on weekly quizzes, SimBio, & go to class. You really need to write down what she says b/c her exams go much more in depth than the PPTs. She jumps around content a lot which makes studying so confusing. Know how to apply everything. It was hard, but not impossible. Wish she had more study resources tho.
Condescending and does not answer emails. Went to a review session she held but she did not show up because she forgot. Spent a lot of lecture connecting topics to personal stories, which made it hard to study when deciding what was a personal story and what was actually content. Group project at the end was graded harder than anticipated.
Loved her teaching style! Dr. Pucko made this course fun and interesting. My only complaint was that the group project at the end was graded pretty harshly. Other than that, she is a 10/10 professor!!
Has the most condescending tone towards her students. She teaches you something once and then expects you to be an expert on the entire topic. I would recommend taking someone else. Her lectures are the only study tool and she often forgets about her office hours and test review sessions. Graded the final group project so harsh for no reason.
I thought professor Pucko was awesome because she explains the material well. The class was fairly easy if you attended the lectures. You do have to put in the work to get the grade though, tests are tough but doable if you know how to study. The final project was a saving grace to boost my grade to an A+. I would recommend taking her.
VERY LECTURE HEAVY. Notes consist of pictures so must go to class! Can be passive aggressive & DOES NOT RESPOND TO EMAILS EVER, even with COVID and flu. Oh and family member deaths lol!! If you see this Pucko, I've never felt more disrespected by a professor. Wish there was an option for 0/5 and hope you learn some empathy for your future students.
Pucko was a good professor, 9.5/10! Her slides are a bit questionable, but she is a great lecturer. If you like to skip class or struggle with lecture-only material, she's not for you. Tests are on what she talks about in class, not much else- and are conceptual, not memorization. They can be hard if you don't completely understand each concept.
Power points are childish, teaches material at a level 1 and test material on a level 5, I go to every lecture and still am confused, she is all over the place. Take a different teacher!!!! AND the weekly quizzes are hard. I dread her going to her class each time. The amount of errors on her test are insane, not even correct grammar/spelling...
Very lecture heavy class! Information in slideshows were not organized the best, details are scattered. Lots of enthusiasm during lecture and a lot of note taking. Tests are hard but manageable if you study well. Didn't love or hate the class, but I thought that the workload can be done. The grade you receive depends on the effort you give for sure
Dr. Pucko is a very intelligent professor, but her lecture style was extremely scattered. The units never really made sense to me. She would have attendance quizzes that would come up sporadically with no heads up (that's what I meant by pop quiz). Overall, she was very nice, but it almost felt fake in a sense. Tests and review quizzes were tricky.
Pucko gives a lot of busy work, which is doable but annoying. The class requires a high level of involvement given the material which will tank your grade in the long run if you are not active in doing all the classwork. Attendance is not mandatory, but she will hand out worksheets or online quizzes that are due at the end of class for a grade.
Dr. Pucko was very confusing and if you asked her for help outside of class she just made you feel dumb. She uploads the lecture slides but it is so hard to get any information out of them so if you do not go to class it's basically a lost cause to look at the posted lectures. I would try and take someone else...
Lecture heavy class that you can't miss due to unclear pwps. She had in class activities on elc that are an easy 100 if you go to class. Weekly quizzes that felt harder than the tests. If you don't do well on tests, there are other things to bring your grade up. If you do the study guide she posts, tests are pretty doable. Not the best lecturer.
Super lecture-heavy, but tests are easy if you go every day and pay attention. Definitely need to study at least a little bit. The final is a group project, and you can't pick your group. Takes forever to grade exams (4ish/semester), but is willing to work one on one with students. Lectures are interesting and entertaining. She is super sweet.
She doesn't let you email her. I mean it's actually written into her syllabus that you're not allowed to email her. So, if you're disabled, have an emergency, or are sick, too bad. You're on your own.
- VERY lecture heavy - posts slides with extra notes, helpful for tests and understanding concepts - slides = very disorganized - Overall pretty good prof and also offers some kind of extra credit which a lot of profs dont do
her content was based veryy heavily on the lectures and focus more on what she says rather than what's on the slides. the tests were mildly difficult and based off the lectures. i do think that the other professors would be better but you'll prob be fine with her. grade consists of 4 tests, weekly quizzes, in class participation, and a project
Dr. Pucko is a good Bio professor. She is slow to get your grades back to you but holds test reviews after so you can see what you miss. There is an option to retake a test during the final block and it is averaged with your original grade if you do poorly on one. You do have to come to class but she makes it interesting.
Pucko really cares about her students and is super kind. However, her lectures are horrific to attend. Her slides are all over the place, making it difficult to know what to study for the test. She does have lots of other assignments and extra credit to boost your grade, but the tests are hit or miss. She only takes attendance some days, not all.
Really great teacher. She covers some tough concepts but explains them pretty well. It is clear that she knows what she is talking about and is passionate about it as well, which is important in a professor to me. If you study hard and go to class you will make a good grade.
I really loved her class. Her test were hard but as long as you study her power points you will do fine. There are weekly review quizzes and an online lab component to her class but she drops a couple grades at the end of the semester. Attendance is mandatory. She is also very helpful in office hours.
Felt like a middle school science course during lecture, but the tests were a little more difficult. I didn't find them hard, though. Just do the weekly review quizzes and don't skip class and you'll make an A. The averages on tests were always an 80 for some reason. A breeze compared to chem, I made high As studying the night before.
She is a fine professor. However, she does not like to answer your questions about tests and is often frazzled in class. Attendance is mandatory, but it is not taken in every class, and you get to drop three. Her tests are a mix of multiple choice and short answers, but the short answers are easier than the MC questions.
she was such a fun professor and she kept the class engaged w/ whiteboard activities and her high energy. she does occasionally do in-class quizzes (for completion) and is pretty good at explaining some complicated topics so i suggest going to classes. there's weekly hw but it's all manageable. she's so fun to chit chat w, i really liked her
Her lectures are very frazzled and she can come off as passive aggressive. Her tests are manageable and she gives out good study guides beforehand. It was an okay class, but given the chance I would not take her again because of how unorganized she was.
She really cares about her students and their grades! She teaches topics in an interesting way and creates the class to be very engaging!
Caring and Sweet is not how I'll describe Carrie. A lot of these students aren't being truthful. I once told this professor about how I finish classes after her office hour time and asked for another possible day and she said no. What professor that "cares for students" just declines the option? Test material is not easy, if you can get Dolan do it
would not recommend, Lecture is very disorganized and heavy. Even during office hours, she is very passive-aggressive and seems unwilling to truly help you. She does give you extra credit and an opportunity to retake your exams for the final, but she averages them out, making it hard to even get an A in her class. Would not recommend
Pucko was an okay professor. She was very disorganized, rushed through lectures, and came off passive aggressive in many situations. She also seemed frequently annoyed when you asked for help. She gave study guides for the tests days before which to me was too late. Tests aren't too bad, but they are difficult. I would go with another professor.
Overall easy class if you pay attention and learn the powerpoints. The tests are reasonable and there are lots of other grades that cushion your grade. The quizzes are hard but you get 2 tries and she lets people work together.
Probably the best choice for this class. Farmer's students complained a lot more than Pucko's. Not hard to make an A.
Power points were disorganized and sometimes she would go really fast. Attendance matters, but she drops some assignments towards the end of the semester. You can definitely get an A, if you study and put in effort. Make sure you download her PowerPoints on powerpoint because she has notes in the bottom that explains the slide in more detail.
Lectures are interesting sometimes, but the tests are basically hypotheticals that only make sense to her. She teaches chemistry concepts incorrectly. She is way too excited for class and it is irritating. Many grammar errors all over the place in her material too. Not hard to get a good grade if you study a lot. Gets annoyed when you ask for help
Professor Pucko is great to take for this course! She has lots of different assignments and extra credit throughout the semester. She allows you to remake up tests at the end of the semester to help you with your grade. To get a good grade make sure to show up for class. She prepares you well for the class if you do your part.
Pucko is excellent! Best biology teacher. She gives a decent amount of extra credit. Easier than BIOL1107 but a different way of thinking about things. Take her over Farmer & you will not regret it. You must know every detail for the tests, but the information is not too difficult.
Definitely recommend over the other 1108 professor. She gives very little homework and when she does it's not super difficult. Her class is only lectures and slides mean nothing if you weren't in class. The content isn't super hard, and the weekly quizzes are much harder then the tests. If you study lecture notes you'll be fine.
She was really good at explaining things both in office hours and in lectures. Her tests were somewhat difficult because you had to apply the knowledge of information at a deeper level, but it forced me to really understand each concept rather than just memorize info.
Loved her! As long as you study her powerpoint and the additional comments she adds to the powerpoint you will be good. She gives a lot of quizzes but they can be taken at home and are open note.
I really enjoyed class with Dr. Pucko. She was very entertaining and came to class with a lot of energy. I loved her lectures! Attendance wasn't required but there were in class assignments sometimes. Exams aren't terrible but include MCQs and short answer questions. There is also a randomly assigned group project at the end of the semester.
Amazing professor. Had weekly quizzes, used in class questions on white boards, and had great lectures. She did have a randomly assigned group project at the end of the semester (difficulty depends on group members). Her tests were verbatim from lectures and in-class work. The material was very interesting and easy to grasp. Highly recommend!
I really enjoyed having Pucko. She was super energetic and really enjoyed teaching 1108. Her lectures were very thorough and always told you if something was unimportant for exams. I will say, her exams were worded very confusing and took a lot of reading comprehension. She also always sends the slides from lectures with notes on important details.
I found her material to be a bit scattered-brained. Her tests are harder but if you go to class and use her PP for resources you will be fine. She was found to be very passive-aggressive in comparison to her in-class personality.
Her exams are difficult, but Dr. Pucko is a great lecturer. She does go on tangents from time to time, but the key to doing well is to study for exams.
She teaches this class almost exactly like how APES is structured. She's a great lecturer! She offers bonus quizzes and podcasts to listen to for extra credit. She has in-class quizzes for attendance and you have to write things on whiteboards with the people around you to answer other questions during class.
You can tell she loves what she is teaching, but as somebody who struggles with test taking this class has to be a no for me. The information is not hard, but the way the questions are phrased makes me overthink a lot. No matter how much I studied, I couldn't seem to understand her thought process.
Dr. Pucko really enjoys teaching this class, but I often found her style a little disorganized. I felt like sometimes the lectures were all over the place. She is nice, but sometimes I found it hard to get her to answer your question after class simply because she's all over the place. Lectures are mandatory with 3 skips. Group project for 5th unit
personally not my favorite class. lectures are enthusiastic, but can be a little disorganized, and she doesn't post the notes before class so you can't annotate the slides as she goes. lotsss of group interaction, like nearly every class, but only one group project. read the annotated slides she posts after class to study! exams were pretty easy.
Dr. Pucko's class was so fun! She's so passionate about Bio and the way she structures her class is interesting and refreshing. If you do the weekly quizzes and homework, you will do well. If you go to class and take notes, you probably won't have to study for tests either. Also, so much extra credit is offered that it's impossible to do poorly.
Dr. Pucko teaches science in a fun way; her class is a great introduction to pretty much any type of science at UGA. Her assignments/exams aren't difficult if you pay attention in class and at least study the night before. Take Dr. Pucko for 1108 if at all possible.
She is a nice person, and the grading is fine. But coming from 1107, I would describe the class as chaotic. I never got a feel for how things were organized, or if they were organized. We did a group project, and it went the way group projects usually go... Overall, I'd say it was okay.
Lectures are very unorganized, talks a LOT. Her exams are much harder than other professors. Not worth taking
Dr. Pucko was easily the most unorganized professor I have ever taken. Assignments/homework was easy, but tests were difficult and lectures were all over the place and extremely hard to follow. Very passive aggressive too when people had questions. Save your sanity and take someone else
I think that Ms. Pucko is a great teacher, and she uses analogies a lot in her lectures which is very helpful for understanding difficult concepts. However, her tests are VERY CHALLENGING, and her questions/answers are written in such a weird way that you could understand the concept but get the question wrong because her wording is weird.
She's pretty good, but her strange retake policy makes it so that you pretty much have to do pretty well on the exams because there are only three of them and they account for almost half of your grade. She hardly responds to emails, so it's best just to talk to her after class about anything.
Easy class - did not have to study much and there were lots of quizlets to prepare for tests. Lectures seemed random at times with how the concepts were organized but it wasn't a huge problem because assignments & tests were easy.
Professor Pucko's class is a mixed bag - lectures can be disorganized, but she makes science engaging. Avoid relying on Chegg, and instead use unstuckstudy ai and other study aids to ace the challenging exams.
* Very active in class and has amazing lectures (does not drone on in a boring tone) * Acts like she actually enjoys her job * Very understanding and breaks down concepts in an easy to understand way
Dr. Pucko genuinely is just not a good lecturer. There's one thing I will give her, and that's that she's passionate about Biology. However, she has way too many typos on her slides, the wording on her tests is SO awful, and the class is so unorganized. I really despise this class, but it's between her and farmer so I had no choice. HORRIBLE.
She's a super engaging professor. She does weekly review quizzes where the questions are similar to the exam and prepare you well. The exams were also generally pretty easy with a couple of tricky or harder questions. Her class is highly application-based, so if you can understand and apply the material rather than memorize it, you will do well.
She knows how to present a lecture and welcomes people to her office hours (I recommend going often—this will help you pass). She is super sweet and wants you to ask questions. This class has A LOT of information, so be ready for a lot of studying. She does tend to talk a lot off-topic, but it is interesting. Good Luck:)
Dr. Pucko is generally a nice lady. She does random in class quizzes so attendance is mandatory. The content is moderately difficult but is 75% high school environmental science. Lectures can often be boring and hard to follow. The class is fairly easy if you are good with conceptual material and have experience in biology and chemistry.
very unorganized and her tests were way too confusing for no reason, the content itself is easy to comprehend but she makes it so confusing and stressful. its like even if you understand the content you still cant get an A on the exams because of her wording. plus not helpful at all when asking questions even though she tells us to ask questions
She's a sweetheart. it's just go to lecture and take notes and you'll do good. What I didn't like is that we went a lstuff not really related to biology itself (it was more like environmental science) so if you're in the healthcare field, I would suggest taking it with another professor who focuses more on biology.
Super unorganized and hard to follow. she tries to engage the class but talks excessively and is very passive aggressive. Do not expect real help beyond asking if you have studied. Seems excited and sweet at first but gets annoyed at questions. Lectures are long with unnecessary details. Random quizzes to take attendance; otherwise, not mandatory.
Pucko is very kind and seems to care deeply for the material but she is just not a good lecturer. Her lectures are both boring and disorganized. I was struggling to make the grades indicative of the effort I put into studying. It was only when I started studying my Bio1 notes (from my previous college) that I started seeing improvement.
Pucko is a very good professor. The way she formats her units is very interesting, but it is very lecture heavy and attendance is mandatory.
She's a nice person, but she's a bit disorganized. Her exams are a bit difficult, but they're made to have the average grade be about a 75-80 range. There's random pop quizzes to check attendance, and weekly review quizzes as well, so you have to review notes at LEAST weekly.
Tests are really hard, but you have plenty of chance to boost your grade. Her lectures can be a little all over the place so it's a lot of work outside of class if you really want to understand the material, she's pretty available to help you out if you ask. overall decent, could be a lot worse.
Dr. Pucko was a good teacher with some difficult tests. There were weekly online quizzes over the content, and homework assignments constantly. However, there were plenty of extra credit opportunities to help your grade. Slides posted after class and definitely study them because tests cover any information covered in class. Answered email quickly.
Really disorganized and all over the place. Tests were really hard. Her wording and spelling mistakes were absolutely baffling. Seems sweet but is super passive aggressive when talking to her one on one. The content isn't impossible, but for a class with above a 93 being an A, it should not be as hard as it is.
This class is not nearly as bad as people make it. Yes, the tests can be a LITTLE tricky, but they are only 50% of the grade and she gives a ton of extra credit opportunities (21 points). The workload is very manageable & it will be a breeze if you've ever made it though a chem class at UGA. Not a fan of the group project at the end tho.
This woman should not be teaching this course. I think she would be much better suited teaching smaller class sizes, where she can engage with the class closer. Her organization of the course is horrible, she teaches in a way that only makes sense to her, and if at all possible do not take this class with her.
Unorganized lectures and EXTREMELY hard tests for no reason. There's no reason her test score averages should be that low. The lectures are unorganized and don't even really cover the tests. Passionate about bio and kind person but bad at lectures and horrid tests. Also sometimes passive aggr. when kids ask questions??
Awesome! Passionate! I recommend going to all lectures. Gives heavy extra credit and makes content interesting. I made high A's on all of the exams with minimal studying. If you do poorly on an exam, you can also retake it at the end of the semester to average the 2 scores together. Simbio and the attendance policy can be annoying.
Pucko has very disorganized slides, which makes studying for tests difficult because there is a lot of excess information that doesn't need to be memorized. She offers a good amount of other assignments to balance your grade, but you really have to stay on top of things to do well.
I don't know why some of you on here are like hyping this class up. This class was extremely unorganized. The content was ALL over the place, like it was not biology half of the time. She was passive aggressive. The group project at the end was SO ANNOYING. The tests were also like so horrid and ridiculous. She should not be teaching this course!
She's not nearly as bad as her reviews make her out to be! I think that she would do better teaching more specialized classes - she's incredibly knowledgeable and helpful while one-on-one but I found her way of presenting information to the lecture hall a bit jarring and messy. The tests are a bit tricky but if you study well they aren't so bad!
One important thing is that her lectures are really important to listen to because there's a lot of information that's not included in the slides. Go to her office hours and do the extra credit! She's very interesting to listen to but this class isn't like your regular bio class. The last test is actually a group project too.
Dr. Pucko was a very good professor; however, the structure/teaching style of her class is a bit unique. This is not a basic biology class- you have to look at both big picture ideas, as well basic biology concepts to really understand the content. Additionally, the exams are worth 50% of your grade, and they can be a bit difficult.
She was a great professor who cared about her students. You have to study for the test; they are more application than memorization, but very doable. I thought her lectures were interesting and she is super high-energy.
Dr. Pucko's class was great! She's very willing to help outside of class and gives many extra credit points. Lectures were sometimes all over the place, but concept maps/making Quizlet's helped connect topics easier. There are weekly review quizzes, but you get two attempts. Tests were worded difficultly at times, but were fairly easy.
I loved Dr. Pucko! She has a lot of energy, so not everyone likes her lecture. She's really engaging, and content is pretty easy to follow if you go to class. The tests can be tough but aren't bad if you actually study and pay attention. Random attendance checks happen each week in class, and there are weekly assignments that are great to study.
You can tell she really cares about the course and what she is teaching. Her lectures are a bit sporadic and she doesn't post them until after class which is annoying.Still interesting and they do a good job at teaching you smaller topics.IDK why ppl on here have complained about the tests they were very reasonable considering the content provided.
Tests are poorly worded and often have subjective answers.Lectures are very hard to follow, and slides are very disorganized and don't have all the required info.Teaches material that I am not sure have anything to do with Bio 2, and are again, mostly her opinion. I would avoid definitely avoid unless she is the only one that fits your schedule.
She explains things very clearly in her lectures, but they are very content dense. If you miss class, you will miss a good amount of information. Very fair, lots of office hours, does give bonus points! Overall a really great prof and great class too.
She was fine. At times she acted very condescending when asked questions, and her test questions were not always very clear. But, if you study the PowerPoints and take notes in class you should be fine. There is a group project at the end, but she does give you many opportunities to fix your group situation if your group isn't working well.
I'm almost done with BIOL 1108 and had a pretty good, but kinda difficult, time in her class. The class is super lecture heavy, but its kinda disconnected and jumps around topics. She posts all of her slides and study materials tho. There's also a decent amount of assignments, as well as daily ICQs, but nothing crazy. Would certainly take again.
I love Dr. Pucko. She actually teaches so that you actually learn. She taught me great study habits that ik I'll use forever. She has rly generous office hours and test make ups. Go to office hours, study, and the test will take care of itself. Would take her class for the rest of my life.
She never posted slides before class bc she didn't want to "spoil the lecture". Lectures are disorganized and sometimes hard to follow. Tests are very hard. Memorization won't work, make sure you know how to tie concepts together. Random attendance quizzes and weekly review quizzes that you 2 tries for and the score is averaged. Nice lady.
Waste of time. Take anybody else. ANYBODY
I liked her as a person but not as a professor. the class is very lecture heavy and if you miss any classes you will get a lower grade bc she only drops like one in class question. the tests are the hardest ones I've had so far in college even after hours of studying. there are test retakes at the end of the semester and a final project
Pucko was an awesome BIOL 1108 professor. If you take good notes in class and study for her exams you should get an A.
I was pretty nervous to take this class, but it really wasn't that bad. Dr. Pucko is really engaging, which makes class fun. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you really should attend because her slides are pretty bare and posted after class. Tests are pretty difficult but doable if you attend class. She is also super helpful in office hours!
Pucko is a great teacher and you can tell she loves what she is teaching by the way she lectures. She's very energetic in her lectures and does a good job of keeping the class engaged in what can be a boring subject. The tests are very hard compared to the classwork and quizzes, but they aren't that bad once you know how to study for them
Very passionate professor who wants her students to succeed. Participation is encouraged, and attendance is only sometimes mandatory (ICQ days). Exams can be difficult, such as the 3rd and 4th ones, but they are nonetheless doable. Weekly review quiz, some simbio assignments, and other miscellaneous work. Retakes are available for all exams at end
Long lectures that were not very focused on test material. Posted powerpoints not containing half of the information on the subject. The tests were confusing and worded weirdly. Sometimes would act condescending when asking questions. Assigned a group project right before finals at the end of the semester, which was manageable but just annoying.
Dr. Pucko was very caring; however, she wasn't the best lecturer. Download her slides and use speaker notes to study. She has numerous office hour opportunities, so take advantage of them! It takes time to get used to her testing style, but she is willing to help. Final is optional (test retakes). One relatively easy group project.
Dr. Pucko is one of the best professors at UGA! She is genuine, engaging, and super sweet. Her lectures were never boring and her exams aren't too bad as long as you do the study guides and pay attention in class. The project at the end of the semester is simple and the workload of this class is very manageable. 100% recommend her!!!
She is very unclear in lecture and the tests are hard and confusing. I would take another professor if given the chance to go back.
try to find any other professor. speeds through lectures, does not explain and makes the test so much harder than they should be. theres no reason to make a class this easy so difficult. do not take her.
Didn't teach at all
Dr. Pucko is really nice and her lectures are engaging. She makes the content really interesting. I do well in class and on quizzes, but her exams are a different story. They are disproportionally hard compared to what we learn in class.
Dr. Pucko is a very good lecturer and clearly covers topics in class. There is a lot of outside work required and her tests are very hard and require a lot of studying
Many assignments, powerpoints aren't easy to understand outside class. Seems like she genuinely cares about the students tho. Most people have a issue w her lecture style rather than the workload/difficulty of the course
Pucko is great! She's super sweet and passionate about teaching. There's a bunch of discussing with your peers in her class if that's not your thing. Her tests are 50% of your final grade and the final is retaking your exams. The other 50% is just classwork and homework. There's random attendance checks as well.
Pucko is great. Genuinely a super nice and helpful lady. But her exam questions are dumb. They are worded in ways to make you fail, and in order to get good grades you cant just understand the material you have to understand her questions, wich are stupid.
I enjoyed Dr. Pucko's class, I thought the lectures were interesting and I thought that the homework was relevant to what we were learning.
Pucko is an engaging lecturer who is passionate about teaching. However, she's not as personable as she appears and rarely answers emails, so office hours are your only option for help. Exams are fair if you study (I've gotten A+ on all of them), but her slides can be unclear and her explanations sometimes stray from standard material. She's good!!
writing before grade is out. pucko is sweet in lecture but can be passive aggresive. tests are wordy, i only increased a little each time. i took ap bio and still struggled. i couldve studied more and done better but i am taking her w/ ochem so my focus was elsewhere. take her if you like engaging lectures, dont if you struggle w taking exams.
I don't understand why Dr. Pucko only has a 3.4/5 on here. She makes lectures engaging, and her tests are not that difficult. If you attend class and study the material well in advance, you will do fine. Her tests do have a good bit of material on them, but the questions are straightforward. Dr. Pucko is a great professor, and I'm glad I took her.
Very interesting and engaging lectures, easy tests if you pay attention and take notes. Attendance is required. Dr. Pucko can be inaccessible by email, but if you do well enough you shouldn't have to contact her too much. Course material isn't very difficult.
She's really nice and passionate about biology, but the tests are very difficult to do well on. Her exams are also very Chem oriented, so make sure you have taken Chem before, even though it is not a pre req. Her exams questions are worded to confuse you and very lecture heavy.
I HATE HER SO MUCH. Knew everything about the content, could describe it to you like the back of my hand, then come test time it was like she wrote ts in Chinese. Her posted slides are questions w no answers, like WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH THAT.
Dr. Pucko is kind and holds more office hours than most professors. She also posts slideshows after her lectures, and the speaker notes are super helpful. Be sure to go to office hours and use all the resources she provides before exams.
I really liked Dr. Pucko. Her lectures were great. If you paid attention in class then the tests were not difficult although some questions were worded weird, if you asked her during the test, she clarified it for you. Also if you go to her office hours, she will help you with the weekly review quizzes and will help you boost your grade on them.
She is nice and fair. Lectures are long, but most of the time engaging. Her homework questions and mostly her exam questions are AWFUL. Exams are worded in a way to make you fail. When I ask her for clarification on a question, she just restates the question. Got an A in the class, but felt like I had to work way harder than those with other profs.
she seems to be a fine person but she was not great as a professor. her tests were disproportionately hard compared to what we learned in lectures (which was middle school bio). the questions were SO wordy and it seemed like she was trying to trick students.
Dr. Pucko is a passionate teacher, but I often found her lectures annoying at times. If you pay attention in class and honestly (dont cheat) do the weekly review quizzes you should have no problem getting an A. She also gives a lot of opportunities for feedback if you do end up struggling.
The tests aren't bad if you study. Her lectures are all over the place tho. I would run her study guides through chat gpt and just study what it gave me.
Lectures could be hard to follow if you weren't paying close attention, but all of the notes are on elc anyway. Knowledge needed for exams was clear. final was a group project. Pucko is really nice, just a bit scatterbrained imo
AMAZING PROF! she genuinely loves what she teaches and it shows! you will actually have to study, but she offers good advice on how to study for her class and be successful. Genuinely wants you to succeed and is happy to answer questions in office hours. Study the practice problems and assignments she gives and you will do great! Lenient attendance
Lengthy, unengaging lectures. She's intimidating to ask questions to. Her tests are unnecessarily difficult, and she does not provide adequate materials to study outside of class. She does not round.
Overall, this was one of the easiest classes I've taken. While the lectures are very helpful, it's fine if you miss some since she posts her PowerPoint slides with her notes after every class. The test content was application-based, but it's easy as long as you memorize all of the PowerPoint notes and understand the graphs/diagrams in the slides.
