very good teacher. Dr. Shepler was extremely helpful with any questions and also had very good notes prepared for class every day. all of my friends came to her reviews and wished that they had her. she and Dr. cox are the best chemistry teachers in the school, and for 1310 there classes share the same tests. get one of these two teachers.
Dr. Shepler is amazing! She posts all her notes online, and actually makes chemistry interesting. She gives analologies that are easy to remember. And, she allows a crib sheet on each test. She grades fairly and is easy to approach. If you have to take 1310, Dr. Shepler is who you want to teach it.
Excellent teacher all around, if you have any questions go to her office she is extremely nice and will walk you through anything. Do all the extra credit at the end and the final will be a breeze.
One of the best profs!! Really nice, helpful, and patient. Recommend her 100%.
She actually cares about teaching class! Her class convinced me to switch majors
Very nice and approachable in comparison to Dr. Cox who teaches it with her. Definitely cares about her students and how they do.
LOVE HER!!! Really helpful and amazingly sweet. I recommend her 100%!!
Shepler is always willing to help out. She uses the PRS quizzes to try and assure attendance. Good professor for gen chem. As long as you at least try a little, an A or B is guaranteed.
Though she was my GT1000 prof, which she did great with that too, she helped me so much with chemistry. I felt like I was in her class. She knows her material very well and "dumbs" it down so that everyone can understand. She has lots of office hours and encourages everyone to take advantage. Overall, I recommend her 100%
LOVE DOC SHEP! GREAT HELP THROUGHOUT COURSE AND GREAT RESOURCE
Very helpful and easy to talk to
She is an excellent professor, she does and excellent job at making basic chemistry seem easy. She is very eager to help students, take advantage of office hours and going to her for help. Highly recommended.
She was a great teacher. Extremely entertaining, and really knew her stuff. Very approachable and willing to spend as long as it takes for you to understand the material.
Dude Doctor Shepler is da bomb. She is quite possibly the best teacher I have ever had. Go to class even though she puts the note online, explains things so well. Never even crack textbook open, tests are a kinda hard, but not too terribly difficult.
She is an awesome teacher. She really wants her students to understand and teaches in a way that we can comprehend. She goes out of her way to host tons of office hours too!
she is amazing amazing as hell, i beasted the class with a 97.8! if you have an option, choose her!
omg!! she's really great! I know her since my professor was absent for some business. Since then, I audit her every lecture. She's really helpful, explain things so clear especially for the chapter 5,about the crystal atoms. Before audit of her class, I got only 77 out of 100 or something but as I attended her class, I hit 100 for every exam.
Carrie Shepler is one of my favorite professors. She met with me whenever I needed help and is a prompt emailer. The class is really hard, but she makes it as bearable as possible. Best chem professor, hands-down.
Be thankful if you get Dr. Shepler. She loves teaching and wants you to do well. WebAssign is a little tough and some questions on the tests are iffy, but overall it is a very good class. You should do very well if you take the time to study and attend class
I had this class at 8am MWF and I missed about 2 classes and hated when I did. She is an absolutely GREAT teacher who loves what she does and makes it interesting and understandable for everyone else. She usually has regular weekly review sessions which are very helpful and a chat room on certain nights.I was happy I was stuck with that 8am class!
She's a really good teacher, but it doesn't really matter, because the class isn't difficult at all (assuming that you have a solid background in chemistry).
So hot I wish she didn't have a husband!
Great teacher. My class is really dumb though so she has to spend a lot of time explaining like we're 5 year olds. Not her fault though. Take her or Russell if you can.
Really great teacher, she's extremely helpful if you need her. Classes aren't mandatory, but she does a great job explaining things. Just focus on studying for each test in depth and you should do great. She's honestly one of the best professors I've ever had.
Dr. Shepler is very intelligent, energetic, and entertaining. All chemistry courses at GT are extremely challenging and they expect you to come in with a certain level of knowledge, but it is possible to do well if you work hard. I recommend her or Dr. Russell for Chem 1211.
Dr Shepler is an amazing professor! Her lectures are not only super helpful, but they're usually pretty fun. She starts each lecture with a random chem-related song, and is always joking around with us in class. She is very into helping her students succeed, and is GREAT about posting helpful things online. You can do well in her class if you try
Very passionate and entertaining professor! Her lectures are easy to understand, and she's willing to help her students. BEWARN she's not an easy A professor, you MUST work hard in her class to get A. If you don't come to lectures and don't prepare for the tests, you can easily end up with a D in this class.
Shepler is a really great teacher. I went to class everyday and took notes and the only studying I needed to do for tests was to complete her practice questions. She is very helpful and loves it when people got to office hours.
Great teacher! She definitely knows what she is talking about and is really passionate about the subject. Go to class and pay attention and do the practice problems and you will do well! Read old tests for the final and you should do well!
Dr. Shepler is so fun and engaging! She always keeps class interesting. Her office hours are really helpful too! Not a necessarily easy class, but if you go to lecture and review practice problems, it is easy to do well!
Dr. Shepler is amazing. I wasn't even in her class but I didn't learn anything my teachers (Wine first 1/2 of semester, El-Sayed second 1/2), so I started going to her lectures. She is very engaging and you can tell she is passionate about her students learning. Go to all of her lectures regardless of who you actually have.
Awesome teacher. She will always make sure you understand and are prepared. Don't ever feel intimidated to speak to her. My favorite class, so far at Tech.
Great teacher! She knows her chemistry and can explain it clearly and with jokes! She doesn't get off topic that much which is good so you actually learn what will be on tests. Study and do practice problems before tests and you can make an A or B.
Fantastic teacher! Cares about her students (but no room in the syllabus really for smudging of grades, so you get what you get) and teaches the material really well. Go to office hours, be vocal in class (ask questions!). She wants to help.
One of my favorite teachers! Lectures are clear, helpful, and informative and tests are straightforward, not hard at all if you study. She lets you write up a cheat sheet for each test including the final. Really cares about her students and majorly sparked my interest in the subject and motivated me to do well in the class. Take her!!
Amazing, amazing teacher. Way better than a lot of the other CHEM 1310 professors. Explains concepts very well and truly cares about you as a student. Highly recommend.
Out of all the CHEM 1310 professors, Dr. Shepler is by far the most engaging. She goes at a slower pace than other professors but only because she wants everybody to learn. All classes have the same test, and I've gotten an A on every one just by reviewing the annotated lecture notes. That being said, attendance isn't mandatory but it's beneficial.
Lectures are really engaging and funny. She really tries hard to make sure you're learning optimally. The best professor for 1310 by a long shot. Really helpful, sends lots of emails explaining everything. Tests are exactly what you'd expect. Cribs sheets allowed. Homework relatively optional (though REALLY helpful.)
DR. SHEPLER IS THE ONLY CHEM 1310 PROFESSOR YOU SHOULD CONSIDER. PLEASE. She is a goddess. One of the best teachers I've ever had.
Definitely the best CHEM professor at GT!
Dr. Shepler is great. She tries to make it as interesting as possible and that helped me understand better. Sometimes there will be group work during lecture. Basically you work with neighbors to answer questions. Didnt really care for that.
Tests are tough, but always fair. Homework is helpful, but the system is annoying, so make sure to plan time for homework. Really cares about students, and tries to make sure that every student taking Chem 1212 (not necessarily her classes, just that class in general) can find an office hour to get help.
Dr. Shepler is one of the most AMAZING professors I have ever had! I wish she taught all of my classes. She is so nice and super helpful and patient in office hours. Her office hours are everyday, and she is always willing to schedule meetings with you if her office hours don't work. Lectures are very interactive. Get her if you can (SERIOUSLY!)
I did not care for her teaching. She explains things well and is there for her students, but I honestly think she has a very limited understanding of chemistry. This could explain why her class is easier because when pushed for a deeper explanation she doesn't know it. I guess that is why she only teaches freshmen courses.
Amazing professor. She teaches with a lot of enthusiasm. Many opportunities to get good grades. Go to class and to office hours if you need it. Bareable amount of homework.
Basically, you get an A if you want to. Do the practice exam questions and the A comes naturally
She's basically the Mary Poppins of chemistry. If you have the opportunity to take her as a professor - JUST DO IT. Seriously, she's there for her students and relates complex topics in easy-to-understand ways. Definitely my favorite professor for my first semester of college. I didn't get an A, but it's only because I didn't put the effort in.
Dr. Shepler was an amazing teacher and I really adore her as a person in general. She's very quick to email you if you don't do so hot on an exam and is always there to help you get back on track. Her exams are super tough, but if you print out lecture notes, get help for things you need, and thoroughly cover the practice exams you'll be fine.
Dr. Shepler is awesome. I had her for 1211, and I have her now for 1212. She is always willing to help you and is very supportive both academically and personally. If you go to office hours, she remembers you by name. She has comical ways of remembering tricky concepts. If you wanted to get an A in the class, you definitely could.
She expects a lot but if you are willing to do the work, your grade will be fine. She is also excellent at teaching and explaining tough concepts.
I love Dr. Shepler! Her lectures are easy to follow and she makes a lot of difficult concepts easy to understand. She will also go out of her way to provide office hours and extra help to those who need it. That being said, this class requires a lot of work, especially with the lab component added on. You have to put in a lot of effort to get an A.
Not too bad. Work and you'll get an A especially if you took chem recently in highschool.
Dr. Shepler genuinely cares for the students. Office hours are very accessible, and I recommend going (even to see what others ask) especially before exams. Most in the class aren't chem-related majors, but she makes it interesting and easy to succeed (but you have to try!). Practice exams are helpful to study, and use her PPT slides to take notes.
Amazing lectures! But you can't learn everything in class, of course. You will have to study hard to get an A, but the grade improvement system makes that a whole lot easier. Lab takes up a lot of time, but don't blow it off, because it is 20% of your grade. Study really hard for the final, and you can definitely get an A. I failed every exam.
She is THE 1310 teacher to take. Most students taking this class will never use Chemistry again and she makes it as easy as possible for us. Her lectures are great as she incorporates humor and is very lively, but it's chemistry so not everyone is interested. The homework always required more than one person to do, but the exams were forgiving.
Idk mixed feelings because everyone loves her, and maybe I'm just bad at chem but like her lectures didn't resonate well with me and I wasn't able to understand material from the slides well because she went through them so quickly, and the class itself requires so much outside work.
Shepler's lectures are entertaining and easy to follow; her analogies are hilarious and actually make you understand. Chem 1310 is a tough class (doesn't matter who your teacher is), but Shepler made is a little more simple and easy.
A lot of my friends really liked Dr. Shepler and while I have to admit that she was a good and enthusiastic lecturer, she was very unsympathetic and rude when being dealt with one-on-one outside of class, a side of her that most people did't see, but myself and a few friends saw come out big-time
Shepler is one of the best teachers I've had at Tech. Class is challenging, but she is more than willing to help you inside and outside of class. Office hours are incredibly helpful.
Shepler is an amazing and intellectual chemistry professor. The only thing is she goes at a high school pace, which is more preference than anything. She is very fair though -- if you don't reach a topic in lecture, you aren't responsible for it.
Definitely one of the best professors at tech. Very cheerful and funny during the 8 am lectures. Definitely go to office hours after each test and ask how to do all the questions you got wrong. I noticed she used very similar questions from the tests on her final.
Dr. Shepler is an awesome professor! She's very approachable and wants us all to succeed. Make sure your do a bunch of work on your own for this class; it will help you get that A.
Highly recommend for any chem class. Lectures were rich and I would actually feel like Im missing out if I didnt go. Made a B but could have easily made an A if I took advantage of her office hours. Her humor for the most part is actually kinda entertaining. Review old tests. Don't waste too much time on online hw as they weren't really helpful
Lectures were pretty good and she really cares about her students. Her office hours were always really crowded so I ended up going to TA office hours a lot. If you review the old tests and do a thorough review of your notes you should be fine.
While it was hard getting to her 8AM class, it was worth it for her lectures. She cares a lot for the students and offers plenty of office hours, especially the week of exams.
Dr. Shepler is a great lecturer and teaches everything in an understandable and basic way. I was doing just okay in the class until I attended her office hours for the 2 weeks leading up to the final, and I finished with an A. She is very accessible outside of class and will take all the time you need to explain difficult concepts.
Shepler is an amazing professor! Her lectures were great, and she always made them as interesting as possible. She uses great analgies, and is great at explaining concepts especially in office hours. Really cares about her students and wants them to succeed. She can sometimes get behind on material and pacing, but its not too bad.
CHEM1310 is a pretty heavy class, especially for those who have never taken Chem before. However, Dr. Shepler manages to make the situation better by providing solid explanation of concepts, and being a caring professor overall. It is hard to get a seat in her class sections, as she is one of the better Chem professors.
Dr. Shepler is a fantastic, hard-working professor. She truly cares about the education AND well-being of her students. While you could get by with just reading the textbook and doing practice questions, you'd truly be missing out. Her lectures are unparalleled with any others at Tech (that I've been).
Shepler was an amazing lecturer, and definitely the best choice for Chem 1211k. She used clear and helpful analogies to help students understand concepts better and was super helpful during office hours. She also gives you lots of resources to help you succeed (practice test, reading guides, extra help, etc). She really cares about her students!!
Must take Shepler for intro chem classes. She's extremely organized, explains things thoroughly and entertainingly, and she lays out exactly what you need to do to pass the course. If you do a couple practice exams (without looking up the answers) and make the crib sheet off her complete notes, things should be a breeze. + hw is always on chegg
Dr. Shepler defines it means to go above and beyond. Tests are like 20 multiple choice and fairly difficult, but her lectures are engaging and thorough. Daily work easy, as long as you complete every hw. She is super genuine and wants you to succeed -- even offers late night sessions on Piazza! Work hard all semester and you'll likely make an A.
Professor Shepler was great! In lecture (not mandatory necessarily but there are clicker questions) she made sure the material made sense, especially for the abstract concepts. She made it clear to the class that she was able to help and posted her office hours often! The tests were difficult and tricky, but I would definitely take Shepler again!
She's a good teacher, which is what matters. She explains concepts well and thoroughly and helps you understand the material. She was also, however, very rude to me and unnecessarily harsh when it came to slight procedural discrepanciesto the point where it felt like she would argue with me for and only for the sake of argument.
A true angel. Amazing teacher that will do anything for you. Good trade off for how difficult/dreadful the class is for non chem majors. Read the book & go to class & youre set! Also, go to office hours if you love yourself.
She is an enjoyable teacher and makes lectures on chemistry not terrible. She also is my best teacher this year.
Shepler was really great at explaining things in lecture and making sure everyone understood it with her examples.
Best prof for gen chem at GT. IMO gen chem is an easy A at GT no matter the prof, but Shepler is great and certainly has the best lectures. Also while she does do clicker questions, they are not required to get an A in the class (although going to class and doing them can help your grade).
Dr. Shepler was one of the best professors I have had so far at Tech. I disliked chemistry in high-school, but she found a way to make chemistry enjoyable. She explains difficult chemistry concepts in a relatively simple manner and does everything she can to help you out. She cares for all her students and is very approachable during office hours.
Truly cares for her students. Lectures are well organized and informative, with each topic receiving ample explanation. There are clicker questions, but you should already be attending anyways to take notes. You'll have to work for your grade, but it's nothing exceedingly strenuous.
Dr. Shepler is an outstanding professor. She is definitely one of the best teachers ever.
Dr. Shepler is a gem. I went to quite a few office hours, and you can tell she was born to teach. She can identify students' points of confusion and really help them. This course can be hit or miss on the difficulty depending on the student. I got too confident and paid the price for it, so stay ahead and you'll do great. I never used my book.
Loved lectures with Dr. Shepler (even though they were at 8am). She has great ways to teach concepts. Previewing material will really help you in this class.
Carrie Shepler is most certainly one of the best Gen Chem professors at GT (if not the best), and I absolutely loved her course. One of my bigger fears coming into Tech was taking Chemistry, as I had a terrible high school experience, but Dr. Shepler made Chem extremely approachable and fascinating. Her lectures were worth taking an 8 am class.
She is very good at giving advice. One of the best professors at Georgia tech
Dr. Shepler is very caring and a very good professor. She is good at explaining, is a very fair professor, and genuinely seems to care for her students. If you have a choice of CHEM 1211K professors, Dr. Shepler is a very good choice!
Chemistry is very enjoyable and easy with Dr. Shepler. Her lecture slides are easy to follow, the class is engaging, tests are straightforward and multiple-choice, and you are allowed a crib sheet on tests. She is also very friendly and overall a great person!
This course is challenging (covers a lot of materials in depth), and it is nice to take it with Dr. Shepler as she explains everything thoroughly and is clear on what will be on tests. Lab in this class is VERY TOUGH (about half of your lab grade is based on your accuracy in your labs).
Dr. Shepler is an amazing teacher, especially for your first chemistry course at Georgia Tech. Very good lecturer, with very good analogies. And let me tell you something - Fun Science Fridays - that is all I have to say about that. If you have a choice choose Dr. Shepler, you will not regret it
Dr. Shepler is an amazing teacher, especially for your first chemistry course at Georgia Tech. Very good lecturer, with very good analogies. And let me tell you something - Fun Science Fridays - that is all I have to say about that. If you have a choice choose Dr. Shepler, you will not regret it.
She is a very caring person who truly wants her students to learn and wants to help them do their best. She gives good lectures explaining the material and is approachable if you have questions. By far the most caring professor Ive had so far.
Dr. Shepler is lecture heavy. While she does a good job explaining concepts, math problems are not always clearly explained. Exams are a really big part of the grade and there are no extra credit opportunities. The final exam offers grade replacement but I would not recommend banking on the final for grade replacement as the exam is hard.
Dr. Shepler has to be one of the kindest professors to walk this campus. She cares for every single student like none other and is extremely approachable outside of class. In terms of lecture, she explains everything in a way it's as if she's telling a story, and Chemistry becomes very easy to understand. If you're given a chance to taker her do it
She is a great professor and cares about her students a lot. Her tests are not bad but they are all multiple choice so no partial credit. Labs are interesting and not bad. The class was not bad and I still learned a lot.
She was incredible.
Great professor. Cares a lot about her students and is a great lecturer too. No complaints on her. The class is on the easier side and there is a grade replacement policy for the midterms (using the final). The only thing to be aware off is that there are clicker questions every class and they count for participation credit.
Amazing professor for 2214! It is a challenging class, but she makes lecture easy. She is a very fair grader that gives lots of partial credit. If you have extra questions, you can always reach out to her, and she will be very helpful in explaining difficult concepts. Lab is a separate component graded largely on accuracy and led by TAs.
Dr. Shepler makes Chem 1310 a VERY easy class. If you took chem in highschool, you will get an A or B without a doubt. Each test is 20 MC questions. If you do the practice tests, you will be fine. Shepler is super nice but can be a bit cringy sometimes in lecture. Just bear through it.
Dr. Shepler was the best professor I had during my freshman year. She explains course concepts clearly and thoroughly, and the test questions reflect what you learn. She also is always available to help, and will do so willingly. I would definitely love to have her as a professor again.
Dr. Shepler is probably the most caring professor in GT. She makes it a pleasure to come to class every day because she is so energetic & kind. The class is very heavy with lab & requires a lot of time, but the concepts are generally easy; there is just a lot of work with hws & labs. Exams are straightforward, and she has grade-replacement w/ final
SHE IS AMAZING. She cares so much about her students and is willing to put in extra time to help them succeed. She prepares you for tests and gives you so many resources to succeed. Take her for chem if you can!
-Topic videos and reading passages were sent before class to preface each lecture's material -Worksheets were handed out to each student and problems were worked through in groups -She uses a timer to keep her lesson plans on track with time for questions -Has loads of office hours + super approachable/friendly -Writes her own exams
Dr. Shepler is really clear and really enthusiastic. She is able to deliver new material concisely and with a lot of analogies, to help students understand. She is also really flexible and cares about her students. She is a great presenter (even online!) and adapted really well to online challenges.
Short summer session. Long pre-lecture vids taught new content. Lectures were all practice problems. Her teaching was fine, but with so much material to cover, I had to commit a LOT of my time to studying. Tests were open note, but the tradeoff is that they're all free response. She gives a ton of practice exams. Take good notes, manage time, study
Stupid hard class, but Shepler is the best. I had some life things going on, and she was SUPER accommodating. I had also never taken chem, so this class was a pain. I probably studied for it 10-12 hours per week at a minimum. Labs are terrible unless you have a great TA, and even so. Shepler is amazing though & knows her stuff. Go to office hours!!
Dr. Shepler is known as one of the best professors at Georgia Tech and there's a good reason why. She's incredibly helpful, knows what she's talking about, and extremely nice. She always tried to brighten our spirits with fun lectures. Be prepared to watch pre-lecture videos 15-50 minutes (average 30 minutes). Her tests are open note/open book.
Dr. Shepler is a good choice. She is caring, and she is willing to help her students. Lectures and assignments are easy if you watch her lectures. Contents get pretty difficult throughout the course, which means more studying. Tests are much more difficult than assignments, but there are tons of resources available.
Dr. Shepler is willing to explain any questions and clarify any topics, I would 100% take Chem with her. She will not extend deadlines or let you turn things in late, but if you attend lectures and do all your work you will do just fine. The way the class is set up allows you to miss a few assignments and still have an A.
She is an amazing professor, who is extremely caring and gives great lectures. Her exams are fair, and her course is organized in a way that benefits students. Can't wait to take her for 1212!
Good teacher. Easy participation points. Lecture isn't really to cover material but rather practice it. Tests are harder than practice question, but she does give a ton of practice. Really nice person.
Dr. Shepler is amazing! She is very caring towards her students and did everything she could to make the online learning format easier for everyone. Expect a LOT of work (pre-lecture, in-class, and HW + lab) but it does help you learn. There is a ton of content, but Dr. Shepler makes it interesting.
TAKE THIS CLASS!! Dr. Shepler is the way to go for Chem1211. She was the hands down, the best teacher I had this semester, especially with everything going on with COVID. She gives you everything you need to succeed in her class through Canvas. The material can be tricky, but shes always there to help. She CARES. She is AMAZING!
Dr. Shepler is a great professor, but she's tough. She gives clear grading expectations and is really good at explaining concepts, but you will have to work to do well in this course. Her tests are much harder than the practice she gives, but doing previous exam questions (which she provides) is how you can succeed. A great choice for CHEM 1211.
AMAZING PROFESSOR! Dr. Shepler is one of the most caring professors you will ever have. So many opportunities to get full credit for assignments. Grade replacement on the final will SAVE you. Amazing through covid times and very understanding.
Dr. Shepler is a good professor and explains things well, but at a fast pace. Her tests are difficult, so be prepared to study a ton! You can skip half of the daily work assignments and still get full daily work points, so that's pretty cool.
Lots of points from the class are from homework, pre-lecture quizzes, and in-class assignments (you have a change to get like 450 and only need 275 though) She knows what she's doing and teaches very well. Always willing to help and is easily accessible. Will 10000% make you laugh. Tests are a little hard and may be a bit confusing, but she's great
I wish I could take every Chem class with Dr. Shepler. She is incredibly kind and makes every effort to make students feel welcome and appreciated. Her pre-lectures and class sessions are very straightforward, and she is great about answering student questions. Her tests are very similar to the in class questions. Only second to her dog Ethyl.
Dr. Shepler is one of those professors that you should design your whole schedule around because she is genuinely the best chem professor at Tec The workload for this class is heavy, the labs can be annoying, and the tests are hard, but study the old tests and listen to her lectures and you can do well. The best choice for Chem 1212 by far.
Professor Shepler is awesome. We had just her lecture videos available to us, and those were awesome. She explains everything in great detail, and all the topics were a lot easier to understand because of her. In addition, she is pretty accessible on PIazza and outside of class, and she always tries her best to provide extra resources for students.
Dr. Shepler is such a queen and definitely an excellent choice for any chem class at Tech. She really cares about her students. The class itself is a lot of work and the tests are tricky, but she makes it so worth it. You won't regret taking Dr. Shepler's class!
Dr. Shepler is an amazing professor. She made the 8:30 AM lecture fun and entertaining, but also didn't mind changing things up to help students succeed. She is one of the best professors I've ever had, and if I could rate above five stars, I would in a heartbeat.
Enjoyable class with lots of resources. Not a walk in the park, but practice exams are comprehensive and useful.
An amazing professor and cares a lot about students. Her class is bucket point style with grade replacement on the final. Studying for the exams was a lot but they felt doable given everything taught. I also liked that she had office hours that changed times throughout the week so that you could normally make them. Approachable in office hours.
Dr. Shepler is amazing, by far one of my favorite professors. She's incredibly kind and really cares about her students. Class is bucket point system and she gives plenty of extra daily credit points. You can also replace midterm grades with the final grade. Reverse style classroom; pre-lecture videos & quizzes followed by in-class assignments.
Dr. Shepler is one of the best professors at Georgia Tech! She genuinely cares about her students' success and is always willing to help. She uses a flipped classroom model, and her lectures break down complicated subjects effectively. Multiple things are due each class, and exams are REALLY hard, but Dr. Shepler helps make them easier to approach.
Dr. Shepler is an amazing professor. She is compassionate and very knowledgeable. She walks around the classroom and asks if we have any questions or concerns. If you have Dr. Shepler, even if you are bad at Chemistry, you will succeed. I do not consider myself great at chemistry, but I am confident that I will end the class with an A or B.
wonderful lecturer, good explainer, attendance not required, just do the assignments and use past exams to study for tests and you'll get an A
She was so sweet and cared about her students. Clear lectures, clear expectations, and grade remediation helps a lot.
Dr. Shepler was such an angel. She cared so much about her students and ensured everyone felt included. She is very accessible outside of class and explains topics very clearly with helpful analogies. She makes chemistry not such a bore
Mostly asynchronous class. Fairly difficult but Dr. Shepler is pretty available for help.
Dr. Shepler was a wonderful CHEM1212K professor. She establishes her expectations and the general layout of the course on the first day. It's a flipped classroom, but peer support is solid and her lectures cover the more confusing topics, so attending is useful. There are a lot of opportunities to get daily points and extra credit.
Professor Shepler is one of those professors where you can just tell she loves teaching and really cares about her students. She is always in constant communication outside of class and is always quick to answer questions. As a flipped classroom, she provides lots of resources to do well on tests and I highly recommend her.
She genuinely cares about students and wants to see us succeed.Very sweet when explaining questions. Was very open to suggestions and flexible with office hours. She did whatever was in her power to meet up with you and help you succeed in the course. Sounds like the bare minimun, but a lot of professors at Tech don't do it.
Passionate about the topic and cares about her students
She is easily one of the best teachers I've ever had in my life. Her concise and clear lectures were great for understanding, and she was very clear exactly what she expected us to know for the exams by providing lots of helpful practice problems through Canvas, Achieve, and even past exams. You can tell she's really respected too, which is rare
Carrie made ~fair tests, but as a grader for her "token" system, she's extremely picky about what she wants, while not actually telling you what she wants. She's also snarky and gives mediocre feedback.Try taking a different teacher.
Wonderful professor! Really seems to care about the topic and her students and wants everyone to succeed. Exams are fair and you always know what will be on them. I wasn't sure I was going to like the flipped classroom, but she made it work. Great communication and clear lectures. If you're taking Chem 1212 make sure to get her.
Dr. Shepler wants all of her students to succeed and is very caring. Lectures were alright, fair amount of weekly assigments.
Dr. Shepler is the best! I really struggled in understanding the material but Dr Shepler was incredibly helpful in office hours and on ed. She is incredibly understanding. I struggled a lot on one of the midterm (and my grade reflected it) and she emailed me after the grades were released just to make sure I had everything I needed to be successful
Enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and caring professor, always available outside of class and amazing, clear lectures. Tests are very similar to in-class assignments, so if you keep up with content and ask questions when needed, you will do well on the tests. Very generous grade replacement policy as well. 10/10 would take again.
Dr. Shepler goes above and beyond to help her students. She uses a flipped classroom. She gives great feedback, stating the reasons why something is incorrect. She made the course enjoyable for an 8:00 am class. Exams were rather straightforward, as Dr. Shepler gave topics to study for before the exams.
I took her class in Fall 2023. Really enjoyed the reverse classroom format, which made the class effectively async (attendance not required -- I'm grateful as a night owl w/ an 8am class). Always saw her at office hours, made a point to help students out very thoroughly. Standard chemistry attitude (extremely type A, very on top of things).
She is so amazing, and very helpful. Answers all questions without making you feel dumb. You can tell she genuinely wants to help. Class can be hard, but just do practice tests. 10/10 recommend .
The reverse classroom format made this 8am class manageable, and Professor Shepler's thorough help during office hours was a lifesaver. unstuck study was a great study tool alongside the materials.
Dr. Shepler has been one of the reasons that made freshman year bearable. She makes sure that students have every opportunity to succeed, giving grade replacement opportunities as well as ample practice before tests and exams. Her flipped classroom style also allows for more flexibility when missing lectures.
Dr. Shepler was incredible. I was so nervous coming in to take chemistry (my high school chem teacher was not the greatest), but Shepler made me realize that chemistry can make sense, and that I can be good at it. 10/10 no complaints and she is very accessible.
For people coming from AP Chem, 90% of the material is the same so the class can be easy/slow sometimes but it's for a very good reason because I learned so much! She was super nice and very passionate about the content. Makes the content very easy to understand and gives practice tests that are similar to the actual test. I highly recommend!
Shepler was an absolutely wonderful chemistry professor and made the class super easy to understand. The tests are very fair and cover exactly what is being taught in class. She is also very caring and is will to work with people. The grading system is set up very nice and you can get 5 points back on each exam if you do all the required work.
If you took AP Chem, should be pretty similar except for the last few parts of Midterm 3. Flipped classroom style video notes allow for attendance to be completely optional. 1 crib sheets allowed on each midterm, and 4 for the final. Tests are very fair and easier than the practice questions done in class. Labs kinda suck. Lots of extra credit!
Shepler is the best professor I have had at Georgia Tech. The structure of this class is great, she is readily available to help, she is great at answering questions. Shepler genuinely wants her students to do well and cares about everyone she teaches. If you have the chance, TAKE HER.
Carrie Shepler is a gift from God himself. Is CHEM1212 a hard course? YES. But was she an absolutely wonderful teacher? ALSO YES. Dr. Shepler cares. She is a great teacher in and out of the classroom. One of the best teachers I have ever had!!! She is definitely the best chem teacher you can choose at GT.
She's very nice but it's flipped classroom which isn't great since lectures are a brief review of content with 6 questions during class, so you won't learn much from lectures. If you took AP Chem it's just busywork, if you didn't it will require a lot of effort outside class to learn content + answer q's for hw. Great class to pay $4k for.
I love this professor!!! Please take her if you want amazing lectures, a kind and caring teacher, and just a great experience with CHEM1212K :) Dr. Shepler puts her lectures online in a flip classroom method but the videos are a masterpiece. They are super easy to follow and she explains everything in a clear and consice way. She is just wonderful.
Best chem teacher i've ever had!!
In Dr. Shepler's class, students take notes before class instead of during class, using class time only for practice problems, which you think would have discouraged me from attending class because technically you aren't learning anything new, but she is such a good lecturer and teacher that I went every day even though it was at 8am!
She is wonderful. Yes it's a hard class but there's no one better to take it with.
Really nice prof, also very good teacher. Chem 2 by nature is hard, but she does a good job at explaining, gives lots of option exam practice (DO THEM), and is very understanding. Best option by far!
Honestly, I didn't go to many lectures for this class, especially later in the semester. The ones I did, however, she demonstrated clearly that she is an amazing professor and can teach with great depth. Furthermore, when I had an emergency and needed to make up a test, she was super friendly and helpful, and overall a great person. Take her class.
Dr. Shepler was one of the highlights of my first semester at Georgia Tech. She is very passionate about her subject and makes the class easily understandable and engaging. She is very accessible outside of class too with office hours
Dr. Shepler is the GOAT. Truly the best professor I have had at Tech. Her pre-lecture videos are clear and concise, and her in-class questions really set you up for success on her exams. She's amazing in office hours (sets up 5 in a week leading up to midterm), and you can tell she cares SO MUCH about her students. I cannot recommend her enough.
Dr. Shepler is a great professor! Her pre-lecture videos are very helpful especially near the end of the course. She is also VERY caring and allows students to offer feedback/ask questions at the end of every lecture on a Canvas quiz. It was a great way to allow students to ask clarifying questions without feeling any pressure.
Dr. Shepler is an extremely kind professor who knows how to teach you the most important info. I really loved her flipped classroom, which made learning much easier. Classes were usually practice, and she own often go over exam-like questions. She was also always providing extensions for everyone---very understanding!!!
She obviously cares about her students. She tries her best to get everyone through the course as easily as possible. She's super understanding and offers grade improvement opportunities. She wants you to succeed.
Dr. Shepler is the sweetest ever! I had her a few semesters back and still remember her kindness and approachability. She personally emailed me after I did well on exams (I'm sure she subbed in names, but the gesture is super nice nonetheless). There are in class quizzes for attendance I think but it was at 8am so I didn't go much.
Dr. Shepler is easily one of the most empathetic and sweet professors to roam this Earth. She structures the class with the understanding that this course is difficult. I won't lie and say the class is easy, but she definitely does everything in her power to ease the burden on her students. If you have the choice, don't take 1212 with anyone else!
By far the best professor and the best teacher I have ever hard period. Dr. Shepler is incredibly good at explaining key concepts and is very accessible outside of class. Make use of office hours both online and in person as they are great tools.
a professor that does the flipped classroom model correctly. office hours are good, lectures are good, and videos are good. I would recommend using the videos for cheat sheets because if it's in the vids it'll be on the test (lectures get derailed sometimes). Make sure to get all the final exam tokens. The questions are really easy. Learn sig figs
Very kind and understanding. Gave great lectures. Would love to take her class again.
