Awesome class! If you like SEX you will love this class. Its the only one I hated to miss because the material is so interesting! Teacher is awesome and really funny. Tests are a little harder then expected so definitly study, but you won't mind because of what you will be learning!
A lot of fun - reasonably demanding in terms of material. Class is always entertaining. Overall good teacher to have
I loved miss smith!!! she's a little tough with her grading, but she's always available for help and she really helped me improve my writing in general. She's so cute and very knowledgable and fun!
Love this woman! Class is interesting.Read before class to participate, but if don't its no big deal. Easy A if you go to class and pay attention, which isn't too hard b/c the topics are fun. Papers are easy. She's a GIANTS fan too! I recommend to anyone!!
Best teacher--very nice and understanding, 3 papers, tests are straightforward, actually enjoyed going to class, one of the best psych classes I have had at UD
No Comments
Very interesting and explicit class. You learn so much about sexuality and she makes it fun. Tests a pretty straightforward and the papers are actually interesting... Got to write the film review on American Pie. She's very interested in the subject and is full of information and if she doesn't know the answer to a question, she'll find it out
Carrie Rocks! Going to class is fun.
Dr. Smith is such an awesome professor. She makes even the most boring stuff lots of fun. She's definately crazy, but in a good way and likes to have fun with the class. She's one of the professors that tells you about her life and lets you do the same. Definately take a class with her!
dr. smith is an awesome person..but make sure she's on your side or she can make you look like an ass. Her classes are fun, interesting, and seem easy, but her mc exams are tricky..sometimes she doesn't even understand what she was asking for after she reads over it again. easy B.
Carrie's entertaining and the material is fun! Not an easy A...easy B though. She's a little full of herself and that can be annoying...but it's also part of what makes her cool. Stay on her good side.
Great lecturer covering great topics. Tests include some obscure information. Ripped my papers apart and told me flat-out I can't write - I guess that's how I tested out of E110. Never guessed a women's studies teacher would be sxist - now there's irony and hypocrisy. Go to class and skim the readings.
i did not like this class at ALL!!!! two projects, an essay (16 pages long) you have to write in two days for the midterm..same thing for the final excpet you get a week..still sucks. really hard grader, average in my class for one of her essays was a D+. Don't take..AVOID THIS CLASS!!! it's seriously not worth it. o n she tore my papers apart!
Shes not nearly that bad. Maybe you should learn to write and she wouldnt rip your papers apart. Fun in class, makes things fairly interesting. No final, but a big paper.
Human Sexuality- This class was awsome. The material was very interesting and really made you want to go to class. There were 2 exams (be sure you study), 3 fun (no really, they are very interesting) papers that really help to boost your grade, and an optional extra credit assignment. I have the book if you want to buy it from me! E-mail me!
obstinate ****. poorly words test q's, then arrogantly refuses to accept suitable answers. way too much anatomy for a psych class.
By far the best professor in the psychology department and the best I've had at UD. Very clear on the topics she covers and makes the class interesting and fun to be in. However, she is not an easy grader and there is no way to BS in her class. No exams, just journal entries and a 20 page paper. Hard-grader and easily tears students writing apart.
Cool topic, cool teacher
by far the best psych professor i've ever had. Class was AWESOME, and not only cause it was about sex. She is somewhat difficult, but if you GOTO CLASS, and study like whoa for the tests you'll do fine. i ended up with an A. fun assignments, and gives opportunity for extra credit.
Dr. Smith taught this class very well and I didn't think it was TOO hard. You do need to come to class b/c she gives quizzes on the chapters in the book, but her power points are helpful and she's funny. Good class, good professor!
Expects too much from a course that is made up of mostly freshmen and sophomores.
Has anybody ever watched 24? She looks just like Chloe and she's as smart as Chloe 2! I loved her, her class is so well organized, if you get lost in her class it's probably your fault because she's a great teacher. She expects only the best from you but that's because she gives you nothing but the best from herself. I loved the class.
she's an awesome teacher and she's really fun to have class with.
Does a good job of pulling potential out of her students, but VERY condescending and mean towards students that don't meet her expectations. She's put more than a few students close to tears when reviewing papers and showing criticisms. For a final paper she didn't give the class a ruberic, then took 25% off the top of our paper for not being APA!
The class is interesting and not too difficult but a lot of notes to memorize. she is a decent teacher and she has helpful notes. i would definitely recommend this class!
Amazing teacher. Very clear and very knowledgeable about the subject material. If you're a fast writer (typing is generally better) then it's easy. I never used the book, though she does complain sometimes about you not reading it. If you listen to her in lecture, everything you need for the exams is in what she says, so take notes.
One of the most interesting and knowledgable professors at UD. However, also one of the toughest graders ever and the most work i have ever had to do in a semester. You write 10 journal entries and a 20 page paper and have to study before practically every clas for a quiz. Although that part isn't fun, she does make the class very interesting.
The book is never used except for group work and even there it is barely used, easy class overall, looked over notes the night before and came out with an 80% or better on both tests, solid professor
GO TO CLASS!! everything you ever need to know about the tests is taught in her class. write down everything she has on powerpoint (even though she'll get mad) and write down side notes she says. she's funny and def makes class interesting.
Personality Theory: VERY INTERESTING! Best professor I have had. Treats students as adults and expects to be treated the same. Class requires lots of reading/studying for random quizzes (hence mandatory attendance), ten 2-4 page journals and a 20 page term paper. Overall, assignments were fun to complete. I would reccomend this class to anyone.
I loved loved loved this professor. She was amazing, she is so funny and really interesting. Everyone should take Professor Smith, she's very good. I am going to miss her class a lot next semester. Take her if your taking a psych class.
She's rude. She can make students feel like idiots sometimes. She gives way too much work and acts like she's our only teacher. She lets you out of class early all the time and then speeds up at the end of the semester and winds up putting the remainder of the notes online because she didn't budget her time properly. STAY AWAY FROM HER!
She is very outgoing & interesting. She hates cell phones ringing during class. She is a good teacher & gives you good examples. She gives you plenty of extra credit opportunities. Her tests can be tricky.
pretty easy class if u go and study moderately...good professor and interesting
Dr. Smith gives amazing lectures. You need to go to every one since they are longer and if you miss the material it's hard to catch up. Pretty much, you need to hear her teach it in lecture because she's very clear. Her tests are relatively easy, 50 multiple choice questions but they can definitely be tricky. Group activities blow.
Wonderful professor. She is very strict on behavior in her class which creates a very good environment for learning. Her tests are multiple choice but very tricky. Must read the book to pass this class. She is funny and her TA was a blast. If you can follow directions and keep your mouth shut during class.... you will love this class.
ABSOLUTELY LOVE HER - by far my favorite teacher since college - definately go to lecture..they're interesting and she knows what she's talking about - book isnt necessary IF YOU STUDYYYYY for exams they are multiple choice but really tricky -take good notes and study shes a witch the first day and then shes simply WONDERFUL LOVE LOVE LOVE HER
you HAVE to go to class-cant survive without her lecture notes. lectures were very clear and she gives lots of examples, but tests were confusing/tricky. she really knows what shes talking about though.
For a huge, intro-level lecture class, this was a ton of work. Her tests are impossible, you have to do weekly group projects, and you have to do pointless experiments. Take this course with her only if you REALLY love psychology.
She is probably the worst professor I've had so far. There is so much work to be done for her class. if you take Psych 100 with her, GO TO CLASS EVERYDAY!this is very important. Also, do all work correctly. If you mess up a little bit on one part, she likes to give out an incomplete for the whole assignment. research/Reading:DO EVERYTHING RIGHT
I think she's a great prof! For a huge lecture hall, she really tries to make sure everyone can grasp the concepts. Gives plenty of relatable examples and welcomes questions during class. There is a lot of work for an intro course, but it's usually interesting and helpful in understanding class topics.
The class is really interesting and she gives good lectures, but she can be a real **** if you talk in class or don't do the reading. Also, the final was IMPOSSIBLE.
ACTIVITIES ARE REALLY HELPFUL AND WORTH THE TIME! It's like getting a perfect on a test... saved my grade. Lectures are good, book is long and not too interesting sometimes. She definitely calls you out for sleeping, texting and talking, so watch out :)
Speaking of getting called out sleeping, how could you not? She spits information at you at a ridiculous pace. You cant help but fall asleep by merely being overwelmed. She likes to talk about sex and that was about the only thing i liked in this class. Exams are absurdly hard. u will have so many notes that u will study for days and still fail
She is the worst teacher- don't take her! You will study for days for her tests and still fail! Her grading rubric sucks and she is the hardest teacher looking for every detail! WHY?!?!? Most of the time you fall asleep in class- don't torture yourself by going through this class.
Most horrible teacher ever. She's obsessed with how great she is for getting a doctorate degree in psych. Doesn't really know that much about the subject. Most boring lectures in the world. IMPOSSIBLE to get an A, no matter what. Gives random grades. Most work ever given in a class, and it's a 100 level intro course. ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE.
Shoot me. Took this class cuz i HAD to, and will never take Psych again. She isn't bad, but there is so much material for tests that you could study for a week straight and still feel like you're screwed. Do the group activities option! Go to class. Tests are mainly from the notes, but the book is good for somethings she won't cover.
Great lecturer, however she has sneaky ways which makes me think she's trying to weed out psych students. Always read webct especially the day before a paper is due! I thought a teacher was supposed to help a student pass, especially when they come to you for help!!! Extra credit work is too lengthy and is due the day of the final...jeckle and hyde
she is an ok teacher but if i had to choose i would not take her again. the class has a lot of information and she expects you to know every bit of it. choose the group activities options cuz even thought her test are all 50 muliple they are extremely hard. also always check webct b/c she will refuse to answer your question if it is posted on there
This porfessor did a very good job; she was clear with her standards/expectations at the beginning of class. Definitely go to class but make sure you read the book. If you read the book (and really know it), the exams aren't too bad. She gave up to 10 points extra credit for participating in extra research studies, which really helps the grade.
horrible teacher. class was waste of time lectures and impossible to get higher than a B. if you have to take the honors section with her, consider jumping off a cliff instead. lots of busy work and unfair grading with points taken off the way an english teacher would grade. one exam and it is also graded unfaily. i strongly DO NOT recommend her!
Good lecturer, but comes off as snobby and rude sometimes. class can be interesting, but don't think that that will make it easy. tests are extremely difficult and she makes the questions very tricky, even if you know the material. Make sure you take advantage of extra credit. highest grade you will most likely get will be a B
Great teacher! Can come off a little snobby sometimes but she really knows what she's talking about, and I learned a lot. You have to work hard to get an A but it can be done. Take advantage of the extra credit, it'll really improve your grade.
She was a pretty good teacher, gave a lot of good real world examples and TRIED to keep class entertaining. She had some pretty bad jokes and is VERY self absorbed and talks a lot about herself and her shoes. Tests/Exams were impossible with the class average in the high 60's or 70. You NEED to read the book, and attending class helps.
I really enjoyed this class! I chose option B, which meant my grade was based on 3 exams alone. The tests are multiple choice, although very hard. You have to read the textbook and really understand the material. But Professor Smith provides lots of examples and her lectures were usually pretty interesting. Don't expect an easy A but it can be done
oh carrie smith..tests arent as bad as she makes you think as long as you study and stay on top of your reading. Doesnt take attendence. Sometimes she can be really annoying and self absorbed. lots of extra credit opportunities.
great teacher in class. very tough and legit. so you don't want to mess with her. super hard multiple choice exams but if you go to class everyday and pay attention you should pass with a B or so.
Awful teacher. DO NOT TAKE. She gives awful trick multiple choice questions that no one can get right. Definitely choose the option with the assignments. A lot of extra work, especially for an intro class, but you will probably fail without those extra points. Definitely go for the extra credit. She is very self-absorbed and annoying.
DO NOT TAKE. Took the honors psych intro and hated it. Not only is she boring, she is unwilling to listen to her students. I would never go near a class with her as the teacher.
Dr. Smith is a tough cookie, to put it nicely. She scares you into staying awake and putting your cell phone away. Shes an amazing professor though. She gave some of the most interesting and concise lectures I've ever heard at UD. Great intro class, and if you have trouble, she gives plenty of extra credit.
Took her class honors. worst class ever. her lectures are boring and long. gives out a ton of work, with barely any extra credit. she's one of those teachers who believe that theirs is the only class you have and so gives you so much work than what it's worth
WORST CLASS/TEACHER EVER. I usually give teachers the benefit of the doubt, and I am a responsible student. However, she is cold hearted. When you ask her for help, she tells you to look online. If you already looked online " there's nothing she can do for you".Her lectures are interesting.EXams= DEATH. Hardest class ever for 100 level.
Professor Smith is an INCREDIBLY TOUGH TEST MAKER. However, she is probably the best lecture giver I have had at UD and completely engaged me in each class. DEFINITELY do the experiments option and DEFINITELY do the extra credit. study HARD, VERY HARD, for the exams. I've seen the best students at UD get D's in her class.
Miserable! This woman has scared me away from the psych department. Explicitly stated that you could know the material and still fail, as she TRIES to trick you. Lectures are boring. The book is updated every semester, and I paid $130 for a book that I couldn't sell back. 50 minute class feels like 50 hours. Don't take this class with her!!!!
EXTREMELY HARD! you have to buy the textbook and READ IT! if you don't read the chapters, you will NOT do well and make sure you go to class cuz her test questions are based on notes and stuff in the textbook that she does not go over in class. however, her lectures are really iteresting, so going to class is not boring at all. JUST STUDY HARD!!!
Dr. Smith (and don't even try to call her Professor Smith) is really a great teacher who I thought was really interesting and witty. If you can take her honors class. Even though a bit more work is required, the class size is a lot smaller and that makes the setting a lot more personal than a 400 person lecture. Research paper instead of final exam
Stray away from this woman if possible. If you are the type of student who does not go to class, this is not the class for you. I read the textbook religiously and still failed. She is out to ruin lives my friends. Take Cohen if you can -- much better. I've taken both, and I got an A in Cohen. I hope that puts it into perspective for ya ;)
Ok, don't let all the other comments scare you away. Her class isn't a piece of cake but this isn't high school anymore. Her lectures are usually pretty good. She has lots of memorable stories with sarcastic humor and she really gets the point across. Do the EC and go to class. The text isn't as necessary as the notes are. STUDY YOUR NOTES!
Great teacher! If you go to class u'll never have to touch your textbook and shes actually very interesting. The tests are hard but if you go to class and take great notes its ok. She will embarrass you if she catches u sleeping or texting. she gives extra credit and has great stories. Made me choose psych as a major.
Self absorbed, and self serving. How come it always seems that psychologists are some of the craziest people you can find? I took her honors course which was filled with pointless "real life" practices of what we learned in class. To her credit she does lecture clearly but her personality will make you cringe. Don't forget she's married to a lawyer
i heard a lot of horror stories about psych209, but taking it with dr. smith has made it soo easy.. she really knows her stuff and makes the material easier to understand. She's definately the teacher to have if you want to do well in this class
Worst class ever. Worst teacher ever. She is very good at explaining things, but other than that, I would give her no credit whatsoever. When you go up to her to ask questions, she treats you like a five-year-old. Thinks highly of herself. I see straight through her. Although some people do think she is "cool"... I definitely don't.
Also took human sexuality with her. Engaging lecturer. Interesting material. If you read and study hard, you'll do just fine on quizzes and exams (objective). Beware of subjective measures though, like her essay grading. Sketchy. Kiiind of pompous, too.
She's a pretty good teacher. Not the best, but she definitely knows what she's talking about. Ask for help, do the homework, do extra credit if you get the chance and you'll be golden.
One of the best in-class lecturers. She knows what she's talking about and presents it very well. Reading before class is expected and she calls you out when she realizes no one's read. Tests are not easy, but if you really practice the formulas you can definitely do well. Gives a lot of extra credit
Her class is manageable if you take good notes and study hard before a test. She can be very rude though. She can at times treat you like she is better than you.
I found her very funny and engaging. She definatly knows her material and is very passionate about her expertise. Take good notes and study hard and you'll do fine. She also gives extra credit and the activites and experiments help your grade. Definatly take her class!
Not a very good professor. Annoying personality and is sometimes absent minded. Taught with a power point and her answers were often wrong. Tests are difficult and she grades pretty strictly. Also you only have 50 minutes to complete a test that should take at least an hour. Would not recommend her.
She is the best professor I have had yet. She has very interesting takes on the subject and is a great lecturer. Do not use your cell phone or sleep in her class. Go to class, her exams are from her lecture notes more than text book.
One of the worst teachers I have ever had. She wouldnt let me meet with her to discuss the class. Tests are impossible, and she is just a mean person in general and very annoying. She teaches by powerpoint with very little writing so you have to write and try to remember everything she says rally quickly. Terrible teacher, do not take her
just read the book and go to class only if your confused.
If you are a psych major, I highly recommend this class. Dr. Smith is tough, but you will be fine if you attend class and pay attention. You will rarely need to use your book. She makes class interesting and adds interesting examples and stories. This was my favorite class so far.
Dr. Smith is a good teacher. And anything is better than James Hoffman for Measurements and Statistics. That being said Dr. Smith is a little full of herself. She will not give you any extra time on assignments, even if you're sick. She expects too much in too little time on exams, so be prepared. The labs and assignments are tedious. Not horrible.
DR Smith makes the class seem so interesting, However the exams are HARD! i studied my butt off n nvr got above a C.There is ALOT of hw too n reading. 1 funny thing is she always wears teenager clothes to class. 1 day she wore like a school girl outfit- HAHA. make sure to STUDY! i also recommend doing the GROUP project when u get the choice.
Really really good lecturer. she kept me awake, which is hard to do. but her tests are tricky. its hard to get an A, but its possible especially cause she gives you 18 pts extra credit on the final grade. but study and make sure you understand, not just memorize, everything
Professor Smith is an excellent speaker and presents a good lecture. However, her exams seem less like tests and more like a way to fool you; It is as though she goes out of her way to trick you. What is even more frustrating is how it is nearly impossible to contact her! If you're a good test taker go for it. Otherwise, heads up.
A true eye opening class as a college freshman. It was by far my favorite class yet I received the lowest grades as her exams are extremely challenging. Take the class to truly get a grasp on psychology and not for the easy grade. She his a very intelligent woman and someone that has a lot to offer.
Interesting, but very difficult class. If youre not really interested in this subject take another professor. Attendance is a big part because tests are mostly out of class notes.
This lady is the devil. Her tests are completely unpassable. Your notes don't matter nor study guides cause the test is so impossible. She has a stuck up attitude.
Absolutely obnoxious lady. Without a doubt one of the more pretentious people I have encountered
Difficult, but not impossible to get an A. Lectures and the reading are necessary and tests are still hard even if you do both. To make up for this she offers extra credit, 16 points overall, and theres group assignments that factor into your grade as well. Interesting lectures, but expect to designate a lot of time outside the classroom
car smith is an interesting lady. go to class because 95% of her exams are based on what she says. your hand will hurt by the time you leave class. if you don't do great on tests, extra credit will help A LOT, and so will group projects. the class is time consuming, but doing the work AND STUDYING will get you an A.
She is stuck up. Her powerpoints are full of useless questions, undefined terms, and short phrases with little information. She explains things with slightly more detail, but she talks and changes slides so fast that it is pretty much impossible to take notes that will help u. she does not respond to emails. expect to rely on the book alot.
I have to admit, I was scared to death to take this class because of some of the things I've heard...but Dr. Smith is by far the best professor I've had thus far UD. She is extremely knowledgeable, and always willing to help if you just speak up. I hope I get an opportunity to take another class with her in the future. :)
SPAWN OF SATAN!!!! She was awful. The class is hard and she deliberately tricks you. I took thourough notes and typed them up after every class, attended every lecture, read and highlighted the textbook and got a C. She is not helpful at all in office hours.
I think it's ironic that you're in a psych class and expect taking notes and typing them up are going to be enough to breeze by. Psych isn't about memorization, it's about concepts. You needed to do more than memorize. No professor is perfect, but Dr. Smith is definitely no spawn of satan. If you took the time to really listen, you'd realize that
She's not that bad. Funny lady, and the math you do in the class is basic algebra. The only 2 complaints I have is that you have to hand in your homework for a grade, and the TAs will take points off for mistakes. That's what the test is for! Also, the way the TAs grade the homework doesn't match the way she teaches in class. Need to standardize.
ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS CLASS!!!!!!! Definitely take this class. Professor Smith is difficult, she isn't handing out A's but as long as you study you will do well. All exams multiple choice, NOT a cummulative final. I love love LOVED this class...a definite must take for all psychology lovers
best professor i've ever had at UD! incredibly interesting and entertaining lectures. i highly recommend taking this class! exams aren't easy, but if you really study her lectures you'll do fine
She is an incredibly tough professor. If you are looking for an easy A, this is by no means the class you want to take. However, you definitely want to take this class if you are interested in the subject matter. The examples she gives assist the information quite a bit.
This is the hardest teacher I have had at UD. She goes over everything in class, but her tests are legit impossible. If you are a bad multiple choice test taker, do not take this class. Activities aren't bad, just annoying to do. She's really unhelpful outside of class and I'd be lucky if I get a C+. My Lowest grade ever!
This professor is awesome! She is really interesting and makes her lectures fun. In order to do well on the tests, you have the understand the concepts, not just memorize stuff. As long as you pay attention and read over the book, you'll be fine.
It was a hard class... The material is easy if you go over it with other class members. There are a lot of labs in class that you do, boring.
If this was a 300 level class< i would have no complaints. But for PSYC100, come on. So much information so fast and the tests are pretty hard. You cannot simply regurgitate information, you need to apply it to situations. Class was not boring but hard!
Definitely not as easy as a 100 level should be, but she makes the material even more interesting than it is. The group/solo projects are a pain but they're easy points. To get a good grade, understand the concepts, don't just memorize facts. You'll have to apply the information in scenarios on the exams. NOT impossible to get an A if you study.
tough teacher expects you not 2 just memorize the terms but understand them in a real world & be able to use them she want her paper 2 have a examples not just summarizing info of line or from the book final is all essay form um 2 tell u how tough this class was almost everyone fail the mid term so she drop it & counting the final twice srry 4runon
