She was an amazing prof. She knew her stuff and was very excited to lecture. I really wish I put more effort into this class, but I was stacked with work.
I LOOOVEEEE Mrs. Spencer. She was really chill about due dates and about all the work. She is great! She was always up beat and happy to teach and she explains everything really great. I would DEFINITELY recommend her to anyone!!!

Prof Spencer was an awesome teacher. The work load for her class is a bit much. The assignments arent extremely difficult but there are a lot of them. If you do have trouble or questions she will help you out. She has lets you choose between a final group project and end of term paper as well. Oh and she is mad fine too
Great teacher. She advises attendance because you can only do the extra credit if you have near perfect attendance. She implements "Shine points" and near daily quizzes that add extra points to your grade. Straightforward teaching method. Speak up and stay involved. She is very open to comments and class discussions. Open note tests. Do homework.
This teacher knows her subject and works hard to get students interested. Seems to want students to do well but also to learn. Spends time explaining assignments and papers. Has a lot of energy. Even if you hate history you will find something to like about the class.
Excellent teacher! I had so much fun and learned much more than I thought I would. She really knows her material, is organized, and helpful. Don't expect an easy A. And don't skip the work or class. I wish I could take it again!
Wonderful content, lenient grader
Professor Spencer is very helpful and clear. Her class was very interesting and engaging. She is very clear with her expectations and how to complete the assignments. The workload in her class was just about what you would expect.
Great professor, engaged the class and made discussions interesting. Bit of a cougar, too.
Prof. Spencer totally helped to prepare me for transfer to UCCS. Her class was a good mix of skills and history. She asks for writing but it is interesting writing and she gives feedback that helps us to learn and improve. Take her history class.
Had a great time in our Learning Community. This instructor cares about us students. She knows history but is not over the top and makes learning interesting. She makes you want to find out more about Asian cultures. I loved that.
This was the first online class I have taken. I did not like history at all before but this prof makes history interesting because our discussions were full of questions and ideas that kept me interested. Fair grader, interesting online assignments.
Good online class. I am a Marketing major at CU Boulder took summer class at PPCC because it was a lot cheaper. Class was well organized and instructor responds and grades quickly. Will tell others to take it online.
Never liked history before taking this class. I see how it impacts my life now. Her classes are fun and you stay interested in the material and learn a lot!
Interesting Class even for non history students. Class a good mix of fun assignments like history game and discussion learned a lot and even liked writing. Fair grader. Take her class.
Ms Spencer will go out of her way to help you in school. This was my first class in college so I hope other teachers will be the same way. She made the class fun too.
I LOVE CARRIE SPENCER. She was the best teacher I've ever had at PPCC. She knows so much about the world, not just history. YOU NEED THE BOOK, quizzes are online from the book. Her class is a total of 1000 pts, but only 700 pts are required, plus there's extra credit. She helps you with everything, the work load is a lot but then again its not
Did not want to take the AAA 109 class but was forced to by the college. Ended up having a great time and learning because of the teacher. She Is helpful and positive taking her history class next semester.
Great class last semester and teacher is fun, good way to take a required class even if you are a science major
If you are not majoring in history, you might want to take a different teacher.
You really learn in her classes. This was the second one I took from her and was glad that she taught both. Not just for history people since she shows how the world history relates to life. Very organized and gives lots of chances to earn points
She is a fantastic teacher! Always there to help and guide during the class. I would recommend taking her class.
Not a super easy class but interesting and a good way to take a history class. There are group projects and other class projects. Ms Spencer is a good instructor.
This was my fourth online class at PPCC. Her course is organized and has everything you need right there. Assignments are different, not too hard and actually interesting. She responds to questions and emails quickly. I learned a lot.
This was my favorite class this fall. Makes history interesting and clear. Wants student to learn and not too tough as a grader.
Learned so much about the world in this class and still learning. Yes we learned about Islam in one unit. Important topic to discuss. Teacher is passionate about world history topics. Taking the China class in the spring.
Very biased, and aims to be not accountable for her students. Loves history, but this also causes her to often stray off of topic and include random facts and information as graded material. Material is SPOKEN and NOT WRITTEN! If you have any sort of disability DO NOT TAKE! Very rude, disrespectful, and inconsiderate. NOT RECOMMENDED!
Extremely helpful teacher. Offers lots of extra points for assignments over an above the required assignments. Very fair grader. I'm not a fan of group assignment but this one was fun on Europe.
Prof. Spencer was very enthusiastic about her subject. Expect to read and write a lot. She assigns a lot of homework, too. There were two or three huge essays and a huge project, as well. Participation is a must. Often she'll cram several questions into one and you are expected to be thorough about it. She does give good feedback, though.
I hate history normally but this Prof. got me interested and helped me see why it was connected to today. Not super easy but very fair interesting. I learned a lot and even learned about some writing tips.
Knows her stuff and encourages student participation. Very kind and helpful. Loved my Chinese history class. Transferred to a different college but look to that class as one of my favorites.
Very personable and LOVES what she is teaching. She has tons of silly anecdotes that keep your attention. She loves to encourage you to use your own critical thinking and discover history through research and reading assignments. At times, she can be a little disorganized with assignments not being posted or only briefly discussed. Do extra credit!
The most organized professor I have ever taken. Everything you need to do well is on PPCC Online. The teacher wants class to be interesting and uses examples from the current world to relate to. It is not a hard class at all if you just do your assignment. Sometimes the class schedule will change but she always let us know.
Mrs. Spencer brings great energy to her class sessions, it's easy to see she's passionate about what she does. She also really wants to see he students succeed and is willing to work with them to make that happen. Overall she's a great teacher and a great person.
Fun class with projects and activities instead of straight lecture and papers.
Certainly knows history, extreme amounts of homework, like seriously your gonna have to pick which assignments are worth the most points because there is no way your gonna be able to accomplish it all. The best advice I can give is to be prepared to work hard for your grade, and pop quizzes and a changing syllabus... yeah, that's not fun.
Fun class not really too much work. It's college not High School. Just right for a college class.
I like that classes are interactive and not straight lecture. She tries to involve students in different kinds of learning. I learned a lot and took a second class with this instructor this semester.
Mrs. Spencer was a fantastic teacher. Yes, there is a lot of homework, but she is always giving you reminders about when things are due. She is always willing to explain why she does things the way she does them, answer any question you may have, and truly wants you to succeed. Class participation is huge and she has a lot of class activities.
Prof Spencer has been by far my favorite instructor. She is very interactive, knowledgeable, gives awesome feedback and wants you to do well. She interacts on a personal, fun level, as well as an educational one. Her class was anything but mundane. She keeps it interesting. I hope I can take another class of hers in the future. She's amazing!!!
She's a nice and enthusiastic person but the classes are a nightmare for people like me with anxiety and social issues.
The class made me think about current events and issues. We played a game as members of the UN which was different than lectures. Participation is expected but if you do well and show up you can be excused from the final.
Mrs. Spencer is clearly a historian, and she has a passion for it. She loves Asian history. She doesn't lecture a lot, but when she does, it's amazing! The class is really more group led. You'll be graded on your participation, and there are no less then 3 MAJOR group presentations. So if you hate talking in front of your class, be aware
Professor Spencer was very good for history. She had a clear grading criteria. If you do all the asssignments, you will do well in her class. Beware of long lectures though. Also, she does do a few pop quizzes. Other than that, her class is really self explanatory and she makes herself available to her students. Highly recommended.
She is a great teacher. History is required and she explains why it is. Makes class interesting with few lectures and more activities and projects.
Best teacher! I loved this class. She made sure there were projects for every type of learner and it kept the class interesting and engaging. Lots of reading and homework, but she is a very fair grader. Make sure to show up or you'll be behind.
Amazing Prof!! Plenty of work to do if you do bad on anything. Gives extra credit to those who show up early to class! And has many more opportunities for extra credit. Very passionate about history and knows what she is talking about!!
I absolutely disliked history before taking this class, I was always terrible at retaining information or even making it through a chapter in a history book. She is very engaging and teaches in various learning styles. She is extremely helpful and the class is set up for you to succeed. Don't get discouraged by the amount of work! You can do it!
She actually makes history fun and interesting. This class helped me to understand a lot of what is going on in the world today. She is interested in ideas instead of a lot of facts and dates.
I did not get why I had to take a history class as a science major. Now I do. She makes history make sense today. I learned a lot. She is a fair grader and nice person.
Mrs. Spencer is a fantastic instructor! She had a few written projects, so be ready to do some research, but her feedback was far more helpful than any English teacher I have ever had. If you happen to have a learning disability, Mrs. Spencer will work with you to make it easier for you to learn, and she'll make it all interesting.
This is the third time I have tried to take a History class online. The last one was terrible and I waited forever for grading feedback. Spencers class was very fair and even interesting with different assignments, some video lectures and good discussions. Best online history by far. She seems to want you to learn and pass.
Professor Spencer was amazing. I enjoyed taking her class so much. Discussions were encouraged and expected. She doesn't care about dates as much as students understanding what was going on in history and why. Her lectures were very interesting. The projects took work but were worth it as they were helpful and fun.
Interesting class. I learned a lot and the Prof is nice and fun too. Since HIS is required this is the one to take.
Exactly what a history class should be. Class is interesting and there are different assignments. Spencer is a kind prof and also an engaging teacher. I learned more in this one class than all of my High School classes put together. She grades fairly too. Not super easy but useful
Carrie Spencer is easily the best professor I've had yet. She assigns a lot of homework, but as long as you do the homework, you'll get an 'A' in class. Without much effort I got an 97% in class. There are a bunch of group projects, and it's mandatory to show up for class, but Carrie makes history fun and enjoyable.
Carrie Spencer is an amazing History Professor, I took this class to get my history requirement out of the way. However I thoroughly enjoyed this semester under her and I would highly recommend taking any of her classes. I would defiantly take history with her again!
Very kind! She likes what she teaches and just wants you to like it too. Her class is very informal and scattered and has a lot of busy work. If you prefer an easy class with a high work load rather than a hard class with only tests, definitely take her! If you actually want to learn a lot about history, I might choose a different prof.
You learn a lot in her classes. She makes history relatable as opposed to just a bunch of useless facts and boring stuff to remember. Take one of her classes.
I took Modern China from her and loved the class. I learned a lot and feel like it was a motivational class as opposed to just checking the boxes. Very interesting material with a focus on research.
One of the best teachers at PPCC. Ms. Spencer is very caring about her students and wants everyone to succeed. But you have to do the homework, read the book, and pay attention during the lectures (which are very interesting).
Great teacher. Ive never enjoyed history but she makes it interesting.
Carrie is such a charismatic teacher. Aside from being the head of the history department she is such a joy to go see for every class, it doesn't feel like work. DO the extra credit!!!! and GO to class!!! it will make your life so much easier come finals!!!! This lady knows her history so if there was a history professor to take its her.
The most caring professor I have ever met. She actually gives a damn about her students. Most importantly she makes learning so fun. I love this teacher and she almost single handedly convinced me to stay at pikes peak (which isn't a great school). Definitely choosier if you can.
Excellent teacher. I took Modern China. The prof uses a lot of activity assignments to help with learning. She tells you on the first day if you come to classes you will do well. I went to her with some personal issues and she was very understanding and helpful.
Take this class. It is required for a degree so choose this prof as you will learn but not be overly bored and stuck with useless work.
She is very dynamic not what you expect from a history prof. There are great class activities that help with learning. She is also funny and connect history to today that makes sense.
This is the best prof to take for History. Class is required so why not take a prof who makes it interesting.
History is not my favorite subject but having a good instructor who cares about students helps.
Mrs. Spencer is amazing! She wants student to show that they understand concepts by participating in class activities and conversations. She offers a lot of extra credit and help on assignments. The course isn't test heavy, but there are other projects that will take time and require analytical knowledge of the subjects.
Professor Spencer is a gem! I was not looking forward to History class and ended loving history! Her lectures are interesting, engaging and she loves teach. Be prepared to do the work and you will succeed. There is a lot of reading. Attendance and participation is a must if you want an A. If you want to learn history and enjoy it take her class!
Carrie Spencer is one of the best teachers I have ever had at PPCC as of writing this. She is clearly passionate about the field of History, she offers many opportunities for the class to engage in the subject themselves, and she is accommodating for those whom need it. A wonderful human being, and that shows in how she teaches.
Mrs. Spencer will work hard to make the class understandable and easy for all her students. This applies to people who do not like or have hated history in the past. She tries to communicate the idea of what she is teaching and make it easy. This makes her class one of the least stressful and enjoyable I've ever had. Lots of make up work.
Prof Spencer is very enthusiastic which makes class interesting. I feel like the class is different than the usual history class because it is about connecting to history instead of just memorizing a bunch of facts. She is also a nice person who listens to student ideas.
Ms Spencer is a very nice person who wants to help students do well. Her class was the first history class Ive ever liked.
I took her class because she had great reviews. She is nice and passionate, but get ready to be lost and not learn a thing. Classes turn into a conversation between the professor and 1-3 students with extensive history knowledge. She expects you to already know everything and is a hard grader on essays. miss one class and your grade will drop 10%
I took the Modern China class from Prof Spencer and it was amazing. It inspired me to learn more about current events and China in general. The class was always filled with activity and cultural stuff about China so we got the background too. She is a fair grader.
Take this professor if you want to learn history and not be bored by useless facts. Activities are interesting. I learned a lot of new things I did not know. She is not a hard grader, very understanding and nice. Her attendance policies are very fair.
Western Civ was an interesting class because the prof teaches it in a more active way with projects and board notes. I would easily take agian.
Carrie Spencer is more than caring, gives good feedback, great lectures, and lots of extra credit opportunities. This class is the reason I now love history! For the final paper: start working on it early in the semester. It could save your life. Do the extra credit and really participate in discussions. The textbook is useful too. Pick this class!
She is super nice but not good at explaining. The classes would be taught by students. It was read these papers and then have a group discussion about what you learned. Personally not the way I like to learn, but I also have no interest in history.
If you ask for extra time on something, she will give it to you. Super understanding and assignments are easy. A lot of work, won't like. You'll have discussions, quizzes, and assignments but all are spread out.
Ms. Spencer tries very hard to make her classes interesting and connected to life. She tells us that history is about more than just memorizing so assignments are more fresh and unusual. She only gives quizzes no tests.
I hate online learning. This semester Prof. Spencer made the Zoom meeting different and interesting instead of just a long lecture. I liked the student discussions. This class turned out better than I expected.
Carrie Spencer is passionate about history and uses documents from the time period to better help comprehend the historical context. This class was an elective I needed for my associate's degree and it turned out to be one of the best classes I have taken at PPCC.
I liked history for the firs time ever. I hated it in High School. If you want to learn something and not have to work too hard to do it this is the class for you. Plus the Prof is very nice.
She gives very good feedback. She does have quit a few mini assignments and one paper that balances out your grade. It pretty easy to maintain the grade you want you just have to really pay attention to due dates! Great professor.
Prof Spencer tells us that history is about being a human and that's how the class is taught. Learning is what you get from the class and you will be glad you take one of her classes.
I took World Civ. You always know your grade, can ask questions and get grades back quickly. The class was organized and pretty clear even during the COVID stuff. I appreciate professors who took time to work the class out.
I really enjoyed Professor Spencer's class. She was very caring and a really amazing professor. While there were many assignments, they weren't overwhelming and she timed them so that you wouldn't have too much going on at once.
The professor makes the class interesting with different activities in class instead of long lectures. I actually enjoyed taking history.
The class teaches you to think and is not like classes that make you memorize a lot of stuff. This prof makes it fun to come to class because it is worth it. Guest speaker was great too.
Professor Spencer is a nice woman that offers great feedback and plenty of opportunities for extra credit. She does give too much work for an intro to HIS course. DO NOT miss class, as there are tons of in class activities that will impact your grade if you miss them.
Professor Spencer is very knowledgable when it comes to history, and her lectures are, for the most part, interesting. However! She is also a very tough grader, and the workload is heavy. This is not an easy class.
This is the first online professor I have ever taken who actually really reads that discussions and takes part in them. It makes the usual canned discussions seem worthwhile.
So many of the students in college courses do not realize that college is all about research, working hard, reading instructions. She does have high expectations. She teaches students college skills like writing and research. Her class was a college level class with some actual work required and she prepares students to go to a 4 year college.
Kind of felt like a high school class, both in the sense that she teaches like a high school teacher and you get a pretty strictly Western perspective on world history, but I learned great deal nonetheless. Professor Spencer is very nice, and there's plenty of extra credit opportunities.
Mrs. Spencer is so fun! I loved her class so much! She is super interactive and gives lots of credit for good effort! She makes history come to life!
I have always hated history. It seems so boring but Prof Spencer approaches it from a way that makes it interesting and clear. She explains why she assigns things. Only writing one paper a semester is a plus.
I took History of Modern China. At PPCC you can choose what history you want to take for your degree and all of them are considered the same level. I was surprised that the class was small because China is in the news folks. Super interesting and interactive class. More people should take it.
Very good at teaching and really cares about what she teaches. The class has lots of busy work, some of the projects are a little too much for a 3 credit hour class. Still very doable as long as you put in the effort. Make sure to get good group members for group projects. She really cares about her students. Arrive early for extra credit chances.
Professor spencer is a great teacher. Her knowledge of the Quran made the middle eastern unit very informative. This class has multiple group projects with great grading systems, she used a system based on peers rating each persons performance in the group which was effective, great class and professor but be prepared for lots of group work
