The professor does not know statistics. Very nice person but I am not sure why she is allowed to teach this course. please do not waste your money taking it with her unless you are looking for the easy way.
She will make you print out the TONS of power points that she goes over in class and hand them in to get participation. Makes students hand in cell phones when taking tests. SHE SHOULD TEACH HIGH SCHOOL NOT COLLEGE! Horrible professor overall, you are better off printing out the power points and teaching yourself at home.
Tests can be tough. But you only need to do well on at least 2 and make sure you do well on the exam. Also keep the notebook in order and you are good.
A little obsessive about how she want things like your notebook and the requirement to turn in you phone during testing. Lectures were all over the place. But if you participate, do your homework and take every extra credit opportunity you are guaranteed an A.
She is a really sweet professor and funny, but chile if you not really good in math.. I would not recommend. She talks like we already know Statistics, but if you ask for help, she'll help.
Stevens can answer any question you have without a doubt. I took this class as a 6 week course and the workload was absolutely insane. The work itself wasn't hard, it just takes a while to get done because there's a lot. Take advantage of the extra credit because it's a tremendous help. Studying hard and do the extra credit guarantees a pass.
Professor Stevens knows her Stats. She is very specific where she want her work located in notebook checks (they are serious). Everyone has to have their name card on their desk (that's how she will tell if you are late). Being on time does matter, also she takes your cell phones during test and you will have to print out all your power points..
They switched me from Linda Jarrel (highly recommended, 5 star) to ms stevens (1 star at the time) the the day before class. Lectured were never clear and i always questioned if she knew her stuff. I went to the labs everyday after class and the 3 stat tutors (Jarrel included) constantly corrected her work. Dont take unless your good at math,AVOID
She flies through slides when it comes to note taking. If you zone out for 2 minutes you'll likely miss valuD information. This class is ridiculously hard. Doing the homework and using mymathlabs features to learn the material helps.
She is AWFUL, YOU WILL FAIL. EVERY ONE OF MY FRIENDS DROPPED HER CLASS INCLUDING ME.
SHE SHOULD TEACH MIDDLE SCHOOL. SHE MAKES YOU WASTE A TON OF PAPER PRINTING OUT THINGS YOU DONT NEED FOR POINTS THAT MAKE UP LESS THAN 1% OF YOU GRADE. SAVE MONEY AND PAPER. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE.
The single worst Teacher I've ever had in my life. She talks down to students in the most condesnding and deeming way possible as if you were 12. She weighs everything you do that is required as only 5 points even if you do 5 hours of work on it. I could go on and include so much "crude language" that would better describe this awful teacher.
Ms. Steven's is very different. If you're ok with teaching math to yourself then go for it. She is rude and does not care.
She doesn't explain things in class even though everyone doesn't understand what's going on. You have to schedule out of class meetings with her all the time because she just skims through it in class. Have questions ready because she won't just go back over the chapter with you.
Prof Stevens really takes the extra time to help her students. If you do the homework and take the extra credit opportunities there is no reason you shouldn't get at LEAST a B. I would take her again.
Do your best to avoid this woman's class. Most miserable way I have ever spent 75 minutes in a classroom. She mumbles in a monotone voice, constantly makes mistakes when explaining subjects and assigns an absurd amount of homework. You will teach yourself by using MyStatLab. Also, she makes you keep a notebook. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!
She tries she just isn't too successful. Wouldn't say she's the best teacher. Everything is on My Stat Lab so there is no excuse for bad grades on the tests.
Great professor. She is sweet, kind and funny. She will always help you if you need it.
She's awful do yourself a favor and do not take this class. She's strict and always in a bad mood. As for the lectures they were completely pointless and I never learned anything in class. She mostly goes over definitions as opposed to actually doing problems with you so it's not helpful. Anything I lessened I taught myself through MyStatLab
She may know her stuff, but has no ability to teach whatsoever.
Prof Stevens she is extremely organized and expects you to be as well. This is not an easy course however she understands that and works with you. There's an SI assigned for her class and that helps a lot! She provides numerous opportunities for extra credit. Do you homework and go to tutoring! If you do the work and study You should do just fine.
Professor Stevens is a nice teacher. Her teaching skills could be improved. She doesn't do many examples when going over the lesson. It's more note based. She gives a good amount of extra credit so do it . If you get A's on all of her test you don't have to take the final.
She's such a great teacher! She explains everything throughly and makes sure you know everything for her test . She provides lots of homework where you can practice with and she also provides practice for the test!
Good teacher and always answered any questions I had
She uses PowerPoint and it's kind of hard to keep up. Wish she could use textbook instead.
The class was a review for me so I rated based on the perceptions of other students. Prior to the course, I came here to do my research. The comment of her being condescending was something I noticed to be true. Another true comment was, all the work is on MyMathLab. I had no other option but to take this instructor however, I do not recommend.
this class was very difficult, she treats us like we are in elementary school with the name tags our desks and she makes you have a binder for class which requires ALOT OF UNECCESSARY printing of useless paper. she grades hard!! If your 2 minutes late for class she marks you tardy smh, I would NEVER recommend her to anyone. Poor teaching style!
Pretty clear on her expectations and also has a good sense of humor. Really cares for her students as well and is willing to help if needed.
This is a math class. Ask questions and help for good grade. You will pass
Professor Stevens was awesome. Stats is difficult and she gives you the best chance to pass. If you do all the homework and show up for class you should be fine.
Professor Stevens explains everything very thoroughly especially when students are still unsure about something. Every lecture is essential for the upcoming tests. She is one of the best stats professors.
Math has always been my worst subject, professor Stevens teaching methods and genuine care for the course made math a lot less dreadful and the stigma associated with the word "statistics" a lot less scary. i have already recommenced to other fellow classmates needing to take this course to make sure they register with her.
Great teacher, had a difficult time grasping the concepts, teaches a bit to fast. Goes quickly over the steps on how to figure out problems on the calculator. Tests can be difficult so make sure to study, and do the homework. She does do binder checks, so make sure everything is order.
She has a tough class, but if you put in the work, she's ready to help your grade as much as possible. See the SI Molly is you can, she's great with this professor.
Huge online aspect but reasonable. She gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. The credit is small but frequent
Great teacher but could work on explaining the course material.
Prof. Stevens seems to be tough and can be easily misunderstood but she has a good heart and is willing to help if you reach out to her. As to her lectures, they can be a little confusing, so be sure that you read the material and try to do your homework BEFORE the lectures. Do ALL homework, give your best and show respect. Be ready to study!
You really have to work for your grade in her class. She knows what she's talking about but the way she explains sometimes could be either too slow or way too fast. You don't have to buy a book, but mystatlab will be your best friend. I also recommend going to the SI sessions she has available. Carolina is an amazing tutor she helped me A LOT!
You have to teach yourself the lessons. She gives a lot of tests that aren't even anything you covered in class. She can never remember formulas and has to constantly look in the book on how to teach the lessons. She does not give you notes, only example problems. If you need extra help she will tell you to go to the math lab. Don't take her!
Doesn't give any feedback and can not explain the problems when u ask her. Extremely nasty when I asked for help. I don't feel this person deserves to be a professor. She just makes you feel like everything is your fault even though she can't do it. No idea how she ever passed from her explain.
Worst professor I've had so far. She cannot explain things clearly. Very rude sometimes. Makes students give her their phones before an exam. Very unorganized. Doesn't allow make up exams at all. Choose another professor if you can.
RUN AWAY! This was worse than all my grade school years in private school put together. She's RUDE, takes phones during exams, marks you tardy even two minutes after, requires a binder w/ dividers and has binder checks during exams. Lots of HW, and her lectures are all over the place and only uses examples! Class should be HONORS credit. smh
After reading these comments it saddens me to see what people are saying about Prof. Stevens. She was by far the best professor I have ever had. She is extremely organized, caring and DOES NOT assign a lot of homework. Mystatlab assignments are very helpful. You have to earn your grade in the class, I put in work, showed up to class and got an A!
She was EXTRAORDINARY! She sets up her notes in a way that help you learn better than the book. You don't even need the book! StatLab and SI sessions are KEY! Come to class having looked over the notes and you're good to go! She will try her hardest to help with anything because she knows it's a difficult subject. I would take her a million times!
4 tests plus cumultive final. Mystatlab homework Binder checks which consist of in-class assignments and notes. Participation I honestly don't think it's so much of a difficult professor teaching the material, it's more of a difficult subject which has a strict time table to be taught in. Tests are difficult, but she grades liberally.
Carrie Stevens was a great professor and very nice
Gives you plenty of opportunities to pass the class with a good grade.
If you are able to self teach yourself then perfect class, otherwise keep it moving.
Tough class but fair and very passable if you do the work. This professor requires notes and organization done her way, I found this difficult because I usually have my own note taking style.
Professor Stevens knows the stuff and is very good teacher. She will work with you and makes the class fun. Make sure you attend SI helps with tests.
worse teacher ever!!!!!!!!!!! Don't do it. !!!!! I warned you. She reviews math homework online and when she inputs the answers she is always incorrect. She is very unorganized, and teaches the information like It is new to her. Doesn't give much help on EMP and reviews chapters out of sequence and is just not a good teacher.
She's all over the place and likes things done exactly her way. There's notebook checks of specific printed things (over 50 pages) & she doesn't go over entire power points in class. Doesn't cater to student's different learning styles. She's very knowleagable but doesn't know how to communicate content so students actually learn.
VERY unorganized she changes things every week. she seems unsure of her work so the students are correcting her.
With professor Stevens her paste is really fast and sometimes she will skip some stuff for you to do at home such as notes. With her you really have o pay attention and ask all question right then and there. KEYNOTE: PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS so you dot miss anything. ATTEND ALL SI SESSIONS.
Statistics is difficult, but she treats it like it's the easiest thing that everyone should understand. Goes through notes faster than any teacher I've ever had. Not very helpful for someone who is not good at math but needs the credit to graduate.
Fair Professor who wants students to succeed. Must do the work to pass. Study exam reviews and you should do well. Notebook checks are easy 100 if it's right. 30 mins tutoring mandatory to take tests. Overall lots of work did well because of what I mentioned above and went to SI sessions.
Prof. Stevens may seem all over the place but she's a fair teacher. You have to attend class to pass, do all the homework (2+ hrs) and go to SI. She gives a lot of extra credit too. If you are a cheater, forget about it bc you have to turn in your phone before every test. From someone who sucks at math, make sure to study and you'll do fine.
She is one of those teachers.. Very confusing and moves at a past that gives you no chance to understand the material. Very poor skill as a teacher.
Worse teacher ever!! Her teaching style is very unorganized and sloppy. She can't teach. Confusing lecture and homework. Don't do it!!!
Do not take if you are not naturally a math person. A really tough class and she does not ease the pain. She is not out to get you but her teaching is confusing and fast paced. 4 tests and she drops the worst grade and notebook checks(make sure you have EVERYTHING printed/filled out) she needs to dumb the course down a bit and slow down the class.
The instructor was willing to help students and was very clear on her instructions.
She's a good professor in my book. Her lectures really clear up any misunderstandings I get from reading the day before. She also posts practice tests on mystatlab and doing them is the easiest way to pass an exam since the questions are formatted the almost the same way as the actual test.
If you're not willing to work hard and study math, don't bother taking this class.
I took Ms. Stevens class last semester and I am glad I did. She drops the lowest test grade, extra credit opportunities, and pay attention in class and take good notes. Her lectures helped me and the practice testes REALLY helped, I mean they are similar to the actual test so "wink wink" USE them!! I would definitely take her again!! You should too
She don't know what she doing Be ready to be lost
By far the worst college professor I've ever had!! Half the time she doesn't know what shes doing, her lectures are spent fixing mistakes she made, and shes not helpful whatsoever . You basically have to teach yourself or you want pass this class, I strongly recommend not taking her!
She has no idea what's she doing & is constantly making mistakes while teaching. Feels like a high school class. very rude & does not teach what's on the tests. would not recommend her at all.
Worst math teacher I've ever had. Made the simplest class (College Algebra) ten times harder than it should be. No idea what she was doing, had to correct her several times every class. She changed her mind about how our notebooks were supposed to be set up and graded repeatedly and made us print 100+ pages of worksheets at one time. AWFUL.
This is the worst math teacher ever . She doesnt actually teach but copies examples straight from the textbook . We pay to be taught not to copy the textbook and teach ourselves. She gets so many of her own problems incorrect it is confusing and hard to grasp the math concepts. Do not pick her especially if you haven't taken a math class in a while
just horrible never take her .
Her lectures are all over the place It takes her the whole class to get through 2 problems, then she tells you to do the rest at home. She says that every new topic you learn is "review" & we should already know it. I had to teach myself the whole course. Plus she gives tons of homework on the stuff she never taught. DONT take if you're bad at math
She made everything harder and more confusing than it needed to be. She also makes you print 100+ pages of notes.. Also tests you on things that she never taught. Would not recommend taking her.
Her lectures are OK, but what really helped me was using the tools offered in MYSTATLAB. This class is difficult, but you will pass if you do all the homework and practice quizzes, they are identical to the tests so USE THEM to your advantage! If you don't take the time to practice on MYSTATLAB, you will fall behind. She also does notebook checks.
You will not be allowed to use your TI 84 calculators only Microsoft Excel, Also you will be using my stat lab for all your tests so you wont be able to write anything on a paper test shes a slow greater so if you are in doubt of passing you need to ask her upfront about it she will sugarcoat and Three hours a night of homework promise!
You will have to devote all of your time to this class. She's not a very good teacher, you'll have to teach yourself just about everything. She gives a lot of supplementary videos and worksheets, but she wouldn't need all that if she would just focus on delivering the material better and making sure people understood it.
Professor Stevens cares about the students and offers her own time outside of class to assist in questions and concerns, has clearly defined expectations, and covers the lectures in clear detail until all questions are addressed. The homework assigned reinforces the lectures directly, the tests are well balanced from the homework plus extra credit
From the last 3 math professors, this one is by far my favorite. It really shows that she cares. All these reviews are probably from people who didn't put the work in.
Professor Stevens is a great teacher she knows the material very well. She took her time to create videos on the lesson, and the notes from class she post those online as well. If you do the homework, pay attention in class, and go over the material (like you are supposed to do) then you will definitely do great on the test and pass the class.
In the class you cant use a calculator and must use excel. I found this to be another struggle in the class since I already am not good in math. Also, there is notebook checks each class on test days. This caused me to fall behind because I would be focused on taking notes while she moves along too fast and the notes online arent the same.
Professor Stevens is one of the best teachers I have been fortunate enough to have in my time at PBSC. The language of Statistics and its processes can be difficult to understand and Professor Stevens goes the extra miles for her students to be successful in her class.
1 For the first few tests she didn't give enough time. she got better by the last 2 tests 2 she would often teach "common mistakes" somethings that was said to her a lot she wants to improve she'll take the criticism into next semesters teachings. she was great with posting notes, made videos to help, EC, and test retake (if needed)
Not a bad professor, always willing to help. Do the homework and you'll be just fine.
I personally didn't want a hybrid class, and this class wasn't titled a hybrid class when I registered. Sitting behind a computer all class isn't learning, I'm a visual learner and I always have been. One thing for sure is that she doesn't know how to teach. She's all over the place and assigns 5-7 assignments on mymathlab sometimes Prefer old Prof
Professor Stevens is overall a good professor, however it was very difficult for me to grasp the material because most of the course is online. Be prepared to have homework after every class, teach yourself some of the material and to come to class with questions. It is a very challenging class but if you are prepared to work you will do great.
A lot students taking STAT2023 assume that it is going to be a walk in the park, but the truth is there is a lot of studying involved which means practicing problems for a least a couple hours every day to be successful in this class. Also, you will be expected to teach yourself everything, and bring any specific questions to class!
Statistics in general (for me) was a tough subject. Professor Stevens did everything in her power to show not only how she wanted her students to understand the material but also how much she really wanted each and every one of us to succeed in her course. Her YouTube videos are very helpful!! I am going to miss this professor
I took for College Algebra. FIRST AND FOREMOST, THIS CLASS IS NOT MEANT FOR STUDENTS THAT DON'T LIKE USING COMPUTERS FOR ALMOST EVERYTHING. With that being said, this class is not that hard if you just PAY ATTENTION and STUDY. Extra credit is given as well. If you have questions, DONT BE SCARED TO ASK THEM.
Professor C. Stevens offered more extra than any Professor I've taken. You can receive up to 10pts on every test if you go to the SLC math lab and keep your binder organized to her standards (which she outlines in black board). Not to mention the excel project that is worth 100pts. Participation and attendance is obligatory to pass and exceed.
Prof Stevens is someone that LOVES Math. If you have any questions about the homework she's willing to explain it in class. She gives extra credit which is awesome and it can really help your grade. I do recommend her, she's very caring when it comes to her students and she's always there to help but you have to be in class for it.
Terrible. What a terrible class. Most of the class is online, and you will be teaching yourself how to do most things. Her lectures are scattered and close to non-existent. You will have to do her homework assignments over and over again in order to teach yourself how to do the problems. If you have her scheduled in the Fall I would drop now.
Flipped format? More like "pay $400 to teach yourself Statistics." Be aware that you're basically signing up for an e-class with mandatory attendance; lecture is pretty sporadic and usually made with the impression that everyone already understands the topic. You'll learn via videos from other teachers on youtube, etc.
She makes you learn how to do Excel which made it hard to get help in tutoring labs. On test, she gives the opportunity for extra points when you show all of your work and excel and for going to the tutoring lab prior to the test. Tends to go through concepts fast and is difficult.
Not sure why everyone below is complaining. Most likely because theyre failing and want to take it out on Professor Stevens. Given that taking a math course over 6 weeks is extremely vigorous, she gives necessary help to succeed. If you do what she asks , you will get an A.
Great professor overall. It was a bit tough for me at first because she uses excel for calculations other than that everything else is pretty good. She helps you out as much as she can and gives you opportunities to improve your grade. Mainly up to the students if they take them. Great professor overall!!!
the class is not too hard, but you have to really pay attention
Information overload and had a difficult time familiarizing myself with Excel. Most of the learning will take place outside of class while working on HW. The instructor offers extra credit opportunities.
I hated this class. The professor is sweet, but her lectures are not helpful but are still mandatory. Really should have just been an online class. You can easily make it through by just doing the homework repeatedly, but is that really learning? If you have the time to repeat the hmwrk over and over and go to Math Lab then this class is ok.
All around excellent choice for statistics. I wasn't aware of how flexible excel was. If the lab-oriented approach took anybody by surprise, well... Read the syllabus when you pick a class? More than fair approach to grading and plenty of interesting, relevant information. Nice to have the notebook for reference, too.
no calculators allowed
It's like she was reading your mind, accessing a quantum computer, as she simultaneously walks up and blocks the board every-time you solve a problem mentally. This is my documentation though as some of you may take it as conspiracy. Your risk in these ''circumstances'' is her financial reward and reaping though. Any other teacher would be great!
Professor Stevens is such a nice lady ! She will awnser any question you may have . Only 4 exams & the final & she drops the lowest test scores. Mostly everything is online & hw is necessary, you will have to work for your grade & attending class is necessary
Ms. Stevens doesn't really teach the chapters. You're basically supposed to teach yourself the lesson before the day you come into class. She gives you online MyMathLab homework every day plus an additional hard copy textbook homework with that. If you don't complete it before class, she won't give you any participating credit for the whole class.
Professor Stevens is a decent professor. You have to keep up during the class labs or else you will be completely lost. Homework is done on MML, and will take hours to complete towards the end of the semester. The course is challenging for people who have a hard time with math.
yikes, she seems like a great person but her teaching is awful. I am so sorry.
The online portion killed.
The online portion is a lot and take a lot of time. Pay attention in class.
math is not my best subject; read the reviews thoroughly it's your call!
I would not recommend this class to anyone. Waste of money if you ask me. I learned more from the Math Lab than from her. It was a lot. Run for the hills
