understands material, fun easy going
interesting teacher easy going
pretty easy, just make sure you pay attention
easy class, fun teacher
easy teacher,questions are multiple choice
First off, managerial accounting (bus21) is a very tough subject. If you want a better chance for a good grade, Mr. Buck would be the best choice for bus 21. He's not necessarily easy, but all his exams are multiple choice...nice and laid-back
very good teacher, explains the solution to problems in detail and gives out important financial advice, i also like his stories about submarines
Best teacher in the university. Easy exams and he's so ho-hum about everything.
Word of advice come on the day he goes over his quiz reviews. all the questions are like jigsaw puzzles. All you have to do is arranging it in the right order. Also study your ass off in his first 3 exams so you can take the rest of the semester off.
He's totally cool! Do the exams and study directly from them. Do not take Mcwilliams for man. accting or you'll be dyin'!! Definitely take Buck instead.
Had him for Managerial and Financial... Great guy and you learn alot, not too tough.. Make sure to ask him submariine questions.
This guy is awesome! Tests are easy, since he takes most from quizes and practice exams. Talks about other stuff besides class, like car payments, mortgages, and real estate. I come more for the interesting stuff he talks about.
doesnt really know what he's talking about..speaks in monotone..tests are easy i guess? cheated cause he reuses the same questions. no homework..tells jokes all the time. good teacher..easy A.
first half of class is jokes, second half is lectures, powerpoints, and practice quizzes which eventually becomes the exact questions on the quiz. class is done 30 mins early everyday. on a lecture day about 15 out of about 50 students show up to class.
Jokes in the beginning of the class. 3 exams and a final. Just study for his quizzes and practice exams. He curves the exams and the final.
great teacher, funny, lectures is always fun.. just study his quiz and practice exam and you got almost 50% of the exam... you can easily get an A in this class...
Good person, but bad teacher.Lectures are useless, talks about other things, but exams are from the book,so have to learn the whole book on your own if you want "A".Exams are not easy(especially if lectures suck!).Avoid him!
4 exams, drops the lowest 1, final NOT cumulative. Lectures are mind-numbing. Exams are pretty much out of practice exams. Ignore his lectures, download the powerpoints and go through them carefully, then try practice problems in book and you'll do OK.
Great professor but a little fast during the lectures. Study his practice quizes and you'll do fine in midterms. Drops 1 out of 4 exams. No final.
The actual lectures were not helpful at all. What does help is when he goes over the practice quizzes and problems in class. You take 4 exams and drop the lowest. Professor is always willing to help if you ask. Study off the practice problems.
He reuses all of the midterms, so find someone who took his class and see if they have the old tests. If you do well on the midterms, you don't need to take the final. VERY easy A. :)
Great professor, down to earth, do the exercises and you will be good... no homework or bs...
He's the easiest accounting teacher at SJSU. A half dozen quizzes and 4 exams, with the lowest score dropped. He goes over practice exams in class which have the same content as the real ones. You have to teach yourself most of the material, though...
If you want an easy A, PLEASE take him. His exams are exactly like the practice exams. He goes over everything before the tests. He curves sometimes. He loves to talk about stuff that are really actually important in life so his lectures can be quite useful in reality.
Not an easy class. Hard grader. Avoid if there are other teachers
He's a very nice, and funny guy. He makes the class very easy, just study his quizes and reivews, then you should not have any problem getting B or even A. Take his class!
Lemme put it this way. If you don't have anyone's previous tests in this class you will not get an A. I studied hard and didn't have any help with previous exams or anything and got a C. ALOT of people have the previous exams they are the ones that F***up the curve for everyone.
Easy A/B if you get all review sheets and attend class 80% of the time. Many MT ?s copied from review. Funny guy, tells personal stories to break monotony of acct. People that gave him poor ratings either didn't attend class or didn't get review sheets.
Go to class and try to pay attention. you always get out early anyways. make sure you get all review sheets and review them as if they are the actuall test. will get atleast a C. drops lowest test score. awsome guy
Funny guy, very laid back, and cool. His tests are easy if you prepared for them. I didnt and ended up with B in his class.
Very fasinating professor. Really cares for his students. Didnt learn much accounting from him, but he taught me more about what is important to succeed in life. Really cares for his students. 4 tests drops lowest one. Material isnt hard. Practice tests, and all that good stuff. Take him, you will be inspired.
practice tests and very few examples on the board. Didn't learn too much just studied for the test the day of and got a B. Pretty easy material, lots of the same Q's on the practice tests. He mostly BS'd with 6 guys the whole classs leaving everyone else bored and uninterested. cares for students and talks about navy, real-estate, etc. all the time
Buck is a funny old man. He's always crackin jokes and has some weird thing about submarines. But he hardly teaches the material which makes the midterms more difficult than they should be. Study off the quizzes and practice tests. Either way, he's still the easiest bus 21 teacher around. Got a solid B even though I was supposed to get a B-.
he's cool. i didn't do much studying and still ended with a b (i thought i was barely passing, mind you). you gotta study off the practice exams and pay attn when he goes over them. his tests are straight from there (same questions). definately rec this teacher for any class.
Carrol Buck is a Man, lol, his wife, cathy, also works at the school. Buck is a great friendly teacher but not a great teacher to learn from. he has fun with the class, reads jokes when the class is "bored" and talks about making money with real estate. only problem is this class is about managerial accounting, & i really dont think he taught that.
Best teacher ever. The jokes he says in the beginning of class are funny as hell. I smoked cigarettes with him every time after class. Like i said, best teacher ever.
Solid teacher, willing to help out durring his office hours w/ school questions and other healpfull advice
Very easy teacher, just know the concepts and the problems on the practice tests and quizes, you only need to study those and use the book for reference for things you don't know how to do. Very helpful with questions about money and investing.
ONE word for this guy man. M-O-N-O-T-O-N-E. he puts you to sleep cause he's that boring. i slept through his class and got a C. oh yeah, one great thing - i did not have to take the final cause i got a high enough grade to pass with 2 midterm scores. so if you're lazy like me, dont take the final pass with a C!! -an MIS Graduate
Buck is quite knowledgeable, but he doesn't like to teach accounting, just how to make money, real estate, or submarines. Has 4 multiple guess tests, drops lowest score. I never cracked the book or did the online homework and still got an A, but I cannot tell you much about accounting.
I didn't learn much from this class. He goes through the material really fast. He is a pretty decent grader, he gives three tests and drops the lowest one. If you study and know the material you will do fine.
Keep up to date and you will do fine. Great teacher. Helps to go to class but even I haven't all the time and I find this teacher still extremely helpful when I need to catch up. He knows what he's talking about so if you don't understand, just ask and it should become pretty clear.
he's a very helpful professor only if you ask him questions. his class is easy b/c the hw is online n is due at very end of class meeting. you can even drop final if you want to, but his exames aren't so easy b/c honestly he doesnt teach material tha much, it's all about other stuff than the textbook n i don't learn much from him.
Excellent Professor w/ lots to bring to the table. Ideal for graduate students who like stimulating debate and open discussion on just about anything.
Very nice guy that wants his student to do well. Grades very fairly with a very generous curve. Drops lowest test score. Just remember to study the practice quiz and exams along with any handouts and you will do fine. Keeps students engaged. Twos problems, he moves to fast during lecture and he doesn't show his mathematical work although very simpl
Very cool guy! Know his stuff very well. He curved the class pretty good. Didn't really study but still got B...Higher Recommended!!
Socratic method to the max. If no students ask any questions about accounting there is very little chance it will be covered. Occasionally did some accounting stuff but mostly learned about real estate, golfing, and submarines. Just show up to raise your grade by 5%. Likes telling jokes about his wife (they're funny too).
I like how he starts off with jokes but he def. does not teach the class. I learned nothing with him. The class is so boring no one shows up. Your grade is based off 3midterms and a final. So if u want no hw this is the teacher for u but i dont recommend him.
he is so cool! take him, you will learn only the things people will need to know when they get out into the real world. he is generous with the quizzes, just make sure to study off the quizzes and lecture for the tests and you will pass his class. :)
You don't need the textbook for this class. Just show up to class everyday and pay attention. He explains things THAT well. Pretty chill dude, I highly recommend! Since everything was explained so well in the lecture, I only had to study about 30 minutes before each exam and I was good to go.
hes a good guy, remember to study the practice quizes and practice tests, droppes lowest test. ask questions or hes gonnna quit!
uses a lot of questions from the in class quizzes and practice exams. those are most helpful when studying. very approachable. teaches you more about life than just accounting. not a hard class at all.
all he does is read off the ppt and do problems on the board. way hard class. but he really does want you to pass. make sure you study the in class quizes because a lot of those questions are going to be on the exam too. and make sure you show up the days EC is offered cuz its a free grade point and those are wut saved me 2 pass. dont need book tho
THE BEST EVER...APPLIES ACCT TO HOW IT ACTUALY WORKS IN THE REAL LIFE...GREAT JOKES...ALWAYS LIKED GOING TO HIS CLASSES AND GIVES YOU HINTS ON HOW TO BE RICH...DO REVIEWS AND COME TO CLASS...
Awesome Teacher! Bright guy when it comes to real estate and accounting. Makes it very easy to learn and always fun to go to class. Cracks jokes all the time!
All I have to say is that this is one of the nicest professors I've had. He uses a lot of questions from quizes and practice exams and they are ALL multiple choice. I bought the book and have yet to sneak a peak...highly recommend this professor.
not as easy as people say because his teaching method is kinda weird. he skips a few steps during the math part and everyone will ALWAYS ask: how did you get x? his answer is usually: well i just added this and multiplied this to get it. so basically you really need that book/cd-rom thing for a B or better
I personally thought this was a tough class. I need teachers to show how to solve problem, which he doesn't do a good job. He reads off the ppt slides, which u can get from the book's website, so you don't need the book. He's a cool teacher, but i don't like teaching method. There are only 4 test, and it's all 100 points. He drops the lowest test.
God I love this teacher!!! I failed one midterm and didn't take the final and still got a B in the class. It is totally possible to get an A in this class. He is very helpfull when you ask him questions. He explains material well and shows us only what is the most importaint. Really great guy!!
VERY EASY PROF AND CLASS. TELLS YOU WHAT'S IMPORTANT AND WHAT WILL BE ON THE TEST. QUIZZES WERE ALL FREEBIES, AND FINAL WAS OPTIONAL(EVEN THOUGH U HAD TO SHOW UP). WOULD DEF TAKE HIM AGAIN. TEACHES OFF PPT SLIDES, BUT JUST DO THE IN CLASS REVIEW AND QUIZZES AND YOU'LL BE SET FOR THE EXAMS
He is a super cool teacher! He tells jokes and shows funny videos to get you awake and interested. He teaches the lecture well and tells you what he thinks from HIS experience. The material isn't too bad but he helps everyone who needs help and will stay after class.. he stayed with my class until 9pm for those who needed help.. I would suggest him
Funny, knowledgeable on subject, fair grading, hard to get lower than a C, easy to get an A. Sounds like the perfect prof. wait hes a Boston fan.
Cool guy. Love his style of teaching. Gives 3 midterms-which he drops 1, and has a final on the last 3 chapters. Gives in class work and quizzes that arent graded, as well as gives a practice mid-terms/final before hand. Also offers extra credit that count as 1 % point to your overall grade. He also has a funny personality. Take this guy!
Really experienced professor. He whips through his lectures really fast but he goes over a ton of example problems to make sure you understand. Doesn't take attendance or collect hw but go to class since most of his exam questions are right off his handouts, which he goes over in detail.
Best professor i have had during my academic years at SJSU
if you are reading this and looking for a bus21 teacher, take this teacher! i forgot everything i learned in bus20 and yet i still have a high A in this class. Don't read the book, show up everyday, print out his slides, and he goes over everything you need to know in class. tests are multiple choice. drops lowest test score and takes avg.
funny guy. reads funny emails and shows youtube videos during class. passes out practice quizzes and tests. study these and how to get these answers and many of the same questions will be on the midterms and final. no homework.
Prof. Buck is a great professor, the tests are straight from the in-class worksheets and quizzes. Remember the formulas and read the text. With his wealth of knowledge, you'll get more value if you have questions from the reading or personal financial matters. A+ prof.
He is the easiest professor ever at SJSU,even though he has extensive handon business experience. Love to discuss real problems with students and teaching. Will take his class anytime.Highly recommend him!!
A great professor. Pay attention and you'll do just fine. He can actually create an environment where students ask questions and actually discuss things. Prof. Buck does an amazing job of relating the material to the real world. He really wants to help his students in class or out. He's a credit to SJSU and teaching.
Buck was simply put the best teacher around. I took his night class and he knows how to keep students engaged when it's dark out! He is straightforward and teaches real life not just the textbook which was great. SJSU is lucky to have him so if you have the opportunity you should take his class hands down.
Teach yourself. Class is a waste of time.
He didn't teach anything at all. He shows you YouTube videos almost every class. He is always late for class and very UNORGANIZED. It takes him about 10 minutes to set up his laptop and this happens at every class! He tells jokes for 15 mins every class. You don't learn from him but if you want an easy A, he is the one!
Cool guy. Tells jokes every class. Explicitly states problems and what he expects for exams. No mandatory homework, attendance, or in class quizzes. 4 exams, drops lowest so if you pass the first 3 then you don't have to take final. Get a 69.5% in the class and he will give you a C. I hate accounting with a passion, but I passed easy in this class.
i dont know what the other people are talking about. seriously relaxed teacher and just does it because he loves it. he was never late and wasnt unorganized. also you dont have to teach yourself or else i would have failed. hes clear and willing to answer questions. my worst subject, but great prof. plus no mandatory attendance...
Best professor I have taken and SJSU. Tells you exactly what you need to know for the exams. Don't necessarily need to attend lectures but he gives practice quizes which do not count for your grade but have the types of questions you'll see on the tests. I literally got an A+ and barely tried.
This professor has a monotone voice that makes comprehending the material that much more boring. Shows jokes and youtube videos before class, which most of the time aren't funny. Tests are hard because he doesn't really teach but rather reads off the powerpoints which aren't even prepared by him. No homework. I would avoid him if I could.
Took the class over cuz i wanted to get this professor. He teaches cuz he wants and teaches students the things you really need to know in the real world, not by text book.he gives you many chances to raise your grade. I didnt take the final and got B-. 1st exam was 85%,2nd 65%, 3rd-80%. Your stupid if you dont take him...he curves too.
Prof. Buck knows his stuff. Keeps the class interesting by telling jokes. One of the most helpful teachers I've had at SJSU. Highly recommend 3 midterms 1 final and he drops the lowest score. Very approachable and explains info well.
you can talk to him about ANYTHING such as making money and he'l give you advice.but when it comes to teaching accounting.AVOID HIM.1/3 of the class is spent on telling jokes and the rest is on his attempt to teach.he lectures of off ppt slides from the book and does not prepare you at all for upper division accounting.teach self class by reading.
Great professor. Its great that he tries to keep the class entertained with jokes but he spends way too much time telling jokes. Its a winter class - and time is very limited. He spends sometimes 30 min telling jokes then he rushes through the material. Should spend more time on the material by going over it in more detail.
The best professor in the college of business at SJSU! This guy is both a CPA and CMA; needless to say, this guy knows his accounting and teaches it very well. Also, he gives the best advice I've ever heard about growing your own wealth. Visit he his office hours, he's a blast to chat with!
The best professor I have had since I've been at SJSU. Accounting has never been an interesting subject in my opinion but he made me want to go to class. Very informative about the real world & constantly tells jokes. Learn to write quickly because he does. Complains about not being voted as hot here so lets all vote him yes for hotness!
I've taken him for financial (failed it previously) and managerial. Really easy and goes through material in lament's terms. However, he should spend less time on funny material and more time on teaching. Good if you're not interested in accounting; bad if you're majoring in it.
Learned most of the things on my own, but when he writes on the board, copy down everything. MEMORIZE the class exercises, quizzes and practice exams, then you will do well. Never collect homework. 4 tests (drop lowest).
nice guy, very easy on class work. but the club attendance that required is bullsht*. study the practice quizzes and study guides then you'll be ok on the exams. this guy doesn't reply by email, so dont expect him to reply your email.
It's a very easy class if you just study the studyguides and practice tests he gives you. They are exactly the same on the midterm and final! I advise you don't buy the book. There is a mandatory assignment to join a club or having another option of doing the paper.
I took winter intercession with Mr. Buck, he is funny, you watch youtube vids first 30 min of class. Got through without book, strictly studying from slides and handouts. Lets you know exactly what will be on test and grades on curve! He also has much experience and will provide very helpful advice.
He speeds through the problems so you don't understand how to do the math. I ended up copying everything down in class and relearning/teaching myself. The good thing is he gives 4 exams and drops the lowest one. You get worksheets/quizzes/practice tests, which are similar to actual exams. Easy class if you're willing to put in the effort to study.
He does read jokes, watch movies for the first chunk of class, which most of them are lame. After that first chunk, he speeds through the lecture. You technically will learn the material by the study guides and practice.. not the lecture. I barely got an A-. He gives xtra credit. I might have to take him again for 122a if he's teaching in S 2014
This prof has incredible real world experience and business insights, fair grading, and very good with the material. He is very passionate about teaching and helping students reach their goals. NOT an easy A, but it is achievable if you take advantage of all of the opportunities to get help.
Easy A professor. Book is not required, so don't buy it. 3 midterms and 1 final. Drops the lowest one. I got an A on midterms so didn't have to take final. You learn from the in-class handouts and practice exams. If you want an Easy A, this is your class, if you want to learn something, this is not the prof to take.
I would buy the textbook because you are going to have to end up teaching the info to yourself. It is useless to go to class since all you do is sit and watch youtube videos the first half. The second half is him speeding through the lecture. At least go to class before the test to get the worksheets. I would not really recommend taking him.
Had no interest in accounting but managerial accounting is quite different and Buck teaches the concepts well. Would recommend future students to pay attention to practice problems/exams and focus on understanding what each formula means/yields in the context of business decisions. Buck entertains class with videos and jokes too. Ask him questions!
I chose this professor because he had good ratings on this site. I was extremely disappointed! He spends majority of class time on irrelevant topics and speed through lectures so fast that I didn't even have time to write down anything, let alone understand the concept. Going to class was a waste of time because I had to re-teach myself everything.
Spends a good 30-45 mins in the beginning of class telling jokes or talking about current events. Then proceeds to rush over the powerpoint slides the rest of the time. He pulls SOME questions from his IN-Class worksheets and practice quizzes, which he gives the answers for. Exams are multiple choice that covers both terminology and formulation.
Opens every class with discussion on anything on current news/business; lectures were rushed and not helpful; handouts helped but he gives answers before you can attempt it yourself; consists of 3 midterms and 1 final, lowest one is dropped (so you may not have to take the final); consistently ended class 15-30 min early; easy class overall
Not hard concepts, but he speeds through material. Grade is best 3 of 4 tests so you can skip final if you want. Join a club and do it early. I did FMA and it was 1 hr. a week for 4 weeks. To get a C you need to avg. 67% on 3 tests and the other 10% of grade from joining club. Super nice guy with lots of advice but teaching style not for everyone.
Awesome / Amazing professor. Really cares about his students, is always available in office hours to talk about anything from the next test to any other questions he can help with using his vast life experience (pretty much anything from buying your first house to questions about the navy.)
There are three tests as well as a project where you attend 4 business student club meetings. I would say there are no hard things about it, except you would have to study more out of class, considering that in class- the lectures are powerpoint-based which you can find online. Also take heed of the worksheets given out.
Easy class, but you're forced to listen to his political views for 34 of the class. The last 25% he gives the answers for the practice quizzeshomework with minimal explanation, then continues to talk about how naturally smart and gifted he is. Required to go to 4 business club events. But still an easy B.
Starts off the class with some awkward chain-link emails. Then proceeds to kind of rush through the lecture. Once you get the hang of the class, it becomes straightforward. Pay attention to the problems he does in his quizzes and in-class. Had three midterms, one finaldrops the lowest, so final can be optional. Class eased up after second midterm.
Professor Buck covers the material in PowerPoint, makes all materials available including in-class work, quizzes and prep exams. He is knowledgeable, has practical experience and a great sense of humor and is very helpful. His goal is for students to understand concepts; he will not try to fail you. If you do all the work, you will pass exams.
During the lecture all he does is reads internet jokes and shows funny youtube videos. You have to go through the material on your own at home in order to pass the exams. I'm not sure what the purpose of this professor at all as I had to study on my own anyways.
Show up 15 mins after the start time since he usually chit chats at the beginning of each class. Joined a club for 10% of the grade, which was actually really fun for me. Gives great supplemental study guides/quizzes. Study the practice exam and practice hw problems and you'll pass no problem!
Nice and extremely approachable guy. Seems to really want to help students out. Exams are not that difficult if you do the homework & study guide. Spent a lot of time on tangents and would speed through lectures, so you really need to study a lot on your own. Drops lowest exam. Usually lets class out early!
By the end of the year a lot of people will skip class because no one likes accounting. If you stick with it then you will get an easy A because he will hand you a practice guide for every single quiz, midterm, and final. Additionally, he grades midterms on a curve, drops the lowest grade, and has extra credit.
Professor Buck makes it accounting pretty easy, which is saying something because I'm a bit of a dunce when it comes to accounting. His notation is kind of hard for me to follow sometimes, but he's very approachable and stops to answer questions. Make sure you know your conceptual stuff for his tests though, knowing how to do the math isn't enough.
THIS IS THE PROF YOU MUST TAKE. Easy A+. Just go to lectures, study handouts and you will get an A+. Mr Buck also has a sense of humor. I highly recommend him!
Class going over important worksheets, power point, discussions. 3 midterms, lowest one is dropped. one final. a project, or you could join the a some kind of accounting club, believe it was CMA? Very knowledgeable teacher, smart guy, he's got a lot of experience.
No homework, 3 midterms, a final, study guides are passed out every exam. You'll have to understand the concepts as well, not just the math. He gives extra credit and curves exams. The project is solving accounting questions or joining a business club. Overall a good class.
He grades on 3 midterms and joining the IMA club. He used to be an executive for a utilities company in Maine. You gotta take him, he gives a real world, business perspective for the class. He's also extremely knowledgeable in life tips and making it to the top in the industry. If you want to learn more than just the textbook, take Carroll.
