You may write alot but it is for your own good. Ask as many questions as you want you'll receive an answer. Not a bad class at all.
Too much writing - no reviews are given! You learn new material before taking the test on the old material. Tests are hard - lots of studying/not just memorizing; a lot of compare/contrast questions. Not a bad guy, just very old school. Says he makes up the tests last minute - not much empathy concerning students studying or knowing material.
Very organized, don't be late for class or else he gets peeved. Pretty laid-back otherwise.
Very fair, barely had to use book at all, test off printed notes and class lecture. Interesting lectures. Attendance and labs help grade. Not an easy A, studying required. Does not initiate review, but will answer student questions for review. I'd take him again.
don't take this class
Hard wihout being reasonable. Class is booooriiinnnnggggg.....
Boring. Hard. You better love science otherwise, you'll fall asleep.
Mean-spirited/no study guides/trick questions on tests/50 minutes to take tests and stares at you the entire time. For final he said study everything, "everything is important" - all 17 chapters! STAY AWAY FROM THIS PROF. ON A POWER TRIP!
Teacher is arrogant and snotty. Isn't capable of answering biology questions that the book doesn't cover. Laughs in students faces when asking for help. Extemely hard grader. Makes up bogus questions for the test.
I think he expects students to be interested in the subject and dedicated to the course. That doesn't work well in a course like BSC2010C. He'd probably be great for more advanced courses though.
Hard class. The test were extremely hard. Expect no study guide or very good reviews in class for the test. Labs and attendance will not help you in class. everyone who I took class with either had a C or lower. Don't walk, run away from this Mann.
Yes it's very hard!! But he's a great teacher, knows what he's talking about, very intelligent (obviously) If you wanna do well, study notes EVERY day. If you pass his class, you can pass anything :)
If you're a business major, Dr Mann is a great professor to take for the science requirement. He explains biology in the lingua franca of economics. Also, he provides all of his Power Point presentations on BlackBoard - great for studying... in fact, don't even buy the book! His course is thorough... so thorough, I was able to pass the Biology CLEP
If you like biology and are interested in learning about it, this is the class to take, you have to study hard because you get treated as college student... don't be late....professor Mann rocks!!! I loved this class!!!
This class is the best kept secret at FCCJ. Prof Mann does a great job covering material that should probably be taught in two sessions with a lab. I would recommend him to all my friends who are serious students.
VERY VERY VERY HARD to pass... expect NO study guides "your study guide is your book" as he says. It's difficult to be enthused about learning when your instructed to read everything in the book and know it... avoid
Anyone who whines that the class is to hard should wake up and serve french fries. You are in college now. Things do not get handed to you on a plate. It is your grade so make a little effort and study. It is time to quit blaming someone else for your bad grades and poor effort.
Professor Mann is an alright teacher but he thinks this is the only class that you take. Thinks his time is more imortant than yours. He will hold you to the very last minute so don't expect to get out early! He knows the material but I would definitely not recommend him. Made a B
Terrible person and a terrible professor. I believe he is Ted Bundy's little brother. Has no compassion for his students and is so boring you will want to jab your eyes out. DO NOT TAKE THIS MEAN-SPIRITED MED SCHOOL REJECT; You'll be miserable, your grades will suffer and you will truly not learn anything - just memorization. Guy needs therapy!
This teacher makes his class ABSOLUTELLY HARD, BORING and CONFUSING. There is definitely a big gap between his class and tests. He doesn’t care about his students at all. No we don't want to serve French fries we only want a teacher who teach us MICROBIOLOGY tank you.
I took Dr. Mann for both Bio I and II. Biology is a hard subject, not alot you can cut out. That is the reason that he doesn't do a review, it would be like reteaching everything. But he is more than willing to answer your questions at anytime. If you have a hard time, ask more questions. This is college, it is now your responsibility.
I think comparing him to a person that raped, tortured and killed women is really extreme. But you probably think that everything should be handed to you. Anyone who doesn't let you pass is a horrible person. Did you even attempt studying the material? It isn't that hard, but maybe you just aren't intelligent enough.
Why gamble? Take somebody else. Either ya like him or hate him.
i don'tthink he's a bad guy just a bad teacher. he spoke well above the level of the class. a/b student struggled for a c. no help in lab. ask a question in class & get the i'll get to that in a few min and nevr go back to it. can't remember what he said would or wouldn't be on test from notes. unorganised, indiffrent, and blames others for mistaks
This professor knows the material, but he makes the class very difficult. In the labs most students are confused and he don't care, and in the lectures he only reads the power point assuming students understand and memorize every word. VERY BORING NOT RECOMMENDED!!!!
TAKE ANOTHER Professor! You will hate this class.
i was very worried about taking a biology class because im not that great with science but he made the material so understable by making it relate to every day things,GREAT teacher,so cute,no "homework",6 exams,labs,1 lab exam,1 cumulative final, you have to study and know the material to pass the tests but cmon thats to be expected!RECOMENDED!!!!!
I agree that he knows everything, but his test are extremely hard. Never was able to earn the grade that i wanted in all of his tests.
Doesn't care if you get it or not or if you make a good grade or not. He is like a robot spewing out information. Teaching was definitely not his first choice as a profession. Stay away. If you ask for extra help he will either tell you he will answer you later and never does or he doesn't really answer your question. Bizarre guy. Stay away.
Descent professor. I have had worse.
Tests are almost impoosible to pass, doesn't allow make-up ANYTHING for ANY reason, too smart to be teaching Intro to Biology. He speaks another languauge sometimes! Do not recommend, even for bio majors!
Dr. Mann is a great teacher. He treats his students like adults. You will definitely get out of his class what you put in. Dr. Mann is willing to help. He helped me before every test. Now, his tests are hard if you do not study, but his class has a nice, easy manner which makes learning easy. Good study skills a must!!!
Mann was a good professor. Material came from both the book and the lectures. His lectures were available online, unlike Muth. Mann was demanding but not unreasonable.
Nice person, offers a lot of help. The labs are easy, make sure you fill out lab book. The problem I had was his tests are EXTREMELY HARD, and the lectures are not really that clear. I do not reccommend taking this class. Tests nearly impossible to pass. A/B student, and I GOT MY FIRST D in his class.
i took 2010 with dr.mann and loved it...all you have to do is print out the power point slides and take notes while he lectures! the tests aren't easy but i got a's on every one of them...same for 2011 which i also took with him. ask questions, pay attention, and don't miss class...that's the big secret!!!

Knowledgable and Personable
Only knows how to read from Powerpoint slides - has attitude and purposely makes his tests difficult. STAY AWAY!
You need to take resposibility for yourself and your grades. This is college level information. Nothing will be spoon fed to you and it is suppose to be difficult. Grow up and quit blaming a prof for your laziness. A word of advice STUDY.
Study hard - easy A
Easy A if you study hard
Great!
Can't get enough of this professor!!
I personally found him to be very sarcastic and not open to answering questions. However, he is very knowledgeable on his subject matter. Tests are very difficult! Notes came straight from Powerpoint. Pay attention to what he writes on the board, show up everyday, STUDY, and you should get a decent grade. Be prepared to study - ALOT.
**Stay away - reads from his power point slides and makes his tests as difficult as possible with tricky wording. Seems to have a chip on his shoulder. He must be teaching by default because he does not seem to be enjoying himself. Very condescending and says he will help you but he does not care.
Great prof. extrememly helpful
Great professor, knows his material.
This class requires a lot of study time and commitment, he is willing to answer questions after class and also if ytou go to his office. I would reccomend this teacher if you are willing to put the time, I could say after all the studying I have learned a lot.... Is a college level class a lot more is expected from the student here!!
Great class, great instruction, no complaints. Study hard and you will do well.
Horrible teacher - argumentative and loud - the class was terrible and difficult and he drones on and on -stay away!!
Unlike other postings, if you study, you will learn the material and pass
Smiles all around
One of the best professors I've had! If u want it bad enough, he's more than willing to help you, unless your a lazy-high school kid! NOTHING in this world is handed to you, and his class is proof!!! STUDY ALOT! GO TO CLASS! You'll get an A! Also one of the most interesting classes I've taken
He just talks through all the notes, really hard to understand.Tests are VERY HARD, lots of fill in the blanks and explaining why. The labs are okay but i would NOT take this teach!Did not learn anything.
has a pony tail and is very funny. hippy like
has a pony tail and is very funny. hippy like
One of the best professors ever! I had him for lab and he's a pretty cool guy. Very clear on explaining the material, walks you through the lab. He also is very willing to help. It's funny when you crack jokes with him. He's a really cool guy and this class was mad cake.
You get what you put into his class, it's that simple. If you do not pass, then that was lack of effort on your part. This semester, he gave us 9 exams, 2 of which were practicals. They consists of multiple choice, fill in the blank, and short answer. Just study the power point slides and you'll be fine. PS - the textbook is useless.
I just want to say that there are alot of LAZY students who probably didnt study, and ended up failing his class... Prof. Mann is not mean at all....he'S VERY STRAIGHT FORWARD, AND IS VERY HELPFUL IF YOU NEED HIM. just come to class, study, ask questions and you'll make it. I got a B in his class.
some people say that as long as you study you will be fine, well I did and I still did not pass, his powerpoint does not help and he just reads through it. he does not care if you pass his class or not.
He is a cool guy, very knowledgeable, and helpful. His class isn't easy, but he's a good prof. His lectures were interesting, and he always cracked a joke here and there to keep it laid back. Tests were fairly difficult, although he gave us powerpoint printouts to study from. Overall, if you're ready to study and learn, take Doc. Mann.
Prof. Mann is brilliant, but he is a tough, tough teacher. He doesn't give the impression that he cares how you do in his class. He take a long time to get exams and work graded. I have never worked so hard for an A before. If you are willing to work HARD and study HARD, it is do-able.
Fair but tough. Not a pushover. Loved his teaching style... laid back learn if you want or not, it's your grade and your money. Would take another class with him. Fun labs and interesting lectures. Loved the subject matter.
He just reads the slides verbatim and doesn't care if you pass or not. Tests were harder than made up to be and he doesn't help you out at all.
Try studying. The exams come directly from the notes.
This teacher is really cool. He helps you with the labs and makes sure you understand what you are doing. He explains things very well in the lectures and you can ask him whatever you want, even if its off topic, If you need bio and want to pass, take him!! Plus he is a Gratful dead fan. awsome
Don't take this class if you are looking for an easy A.The tests are multiple choice and short answer to make sure you actually did learn the material. I personally love his teaching style, which is very laid back and straight forward, and have done well in the class so far (finals next week). I would take him again in a heartbeat.
He gives you the framework to pass the course. But he makes it perfectly clear your grade reflects YOUR own work.
Of course there is a lot of information - It is a college course. No on to hold your hand here. Your grade depends on your work.
You realize picking professors based on the posting here is silly. It is college, it is designed to be tough, it is designed for people to learn. Pick professors based on learning not ease.
Professor Mann is a very good teacher, but Biology is a tough subject.
Honestly, this is not a class for the procrastinators and complainers. There is quite a bit of work involved, and studying outside of class is almost mandatory. Though, Prof. Mann is always there to help. He explains everything, and always available outside of class. You can get an A if you work hard, just don't expect it to be easy! :P
To all the non-brown nosers... Professor Mann said on Day 1 that there were no review sheets. You have notes to study from. If there is too much material, either begin to study sooner or take an another course.
Prof. Mann is a great teacher, everything he says is interesting. The class is tough, but rewarding. You will learn so much from him. He is helpful if you just ask, all exams come directly from notes. I would recomend if you are are willing to come to class, and are excieted to learn, people who don't attend make him mad.
Dr. Mann was one of the best teachers I had at FCCJ. I would have taken him for bio II but his class got cut over the summer. He is quite difficult, but it forces you to actually learn the material, not just memorize it. Labs are awesome, even the lab exam was fun. Lectures are a bit long, but there is a lot of information. Great professor!
Dont take if bio is not your thing. Tests are timed and very hard with lots of short answers. Lectures are very long and you have to memorize them to do well on tests.
i think professor mann is great. if you are not a great student you might want to re-think taking him, because he won't dumb down the material. but if you are willing to put in the work, he will give you a wealth of information. his tests are hard but prepare for nursing/med schools exams, etc. plus he has a great personality!!! i highly recommend.
This Professor is very mean, he dosn't care about student's grade or how important the class means to the student. He is very loud and thinks he's strict. He likes comparing student to other students. He gives a bad grade you don't deserve. He knows what he teach's but he doesn't care about student's grades at all. I can't recommend him, sorry!!!
Dr. Mann is very clear on the forst day of class, that it is your class and your grade. No professor GIVES a grade, they merely record the grade that we the students actually get. He does care about your grade, but it is college and he will not baby you. Take responsibility for YOUR grade.
Good teacher. Cool and mellow guy. Hard exams. Test can be pretty difficult. You better study and know your notes/powerpoints. Very possible to get A/B's on the exams and class if you study hard and understand the information. Pretty much memorize your powerpoints. Labs were cool, but were confusing at times. Not graded as much on labs thankfully.
He's not easy. But he's great at what he does. The lectures are clear and concise. The test are hard but if you study you are golden. Just make sure you know the stuff backwards and forwards because he likes the details. Tests are multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank and short answer. I may get a B in this class but at least I would have earned it.
highly recommend him! took him for 3 diff classes He is the best professor Ive had in my 4yr of college. He is VERY smart & easy 2understand in lecture. Study all of the notes &really try in his class and you should have no problem passing YOU ARE GIVEN WHAT YOU DESERVE don't expect to slack & get a good grade.
Prof. Mann is by far the best biology teacher I've had. He is really laid back and enjoys what he's doing. He goes through the material in perfect detail but it's incredibly easy to follow. His tests are ridiculously hard, but passable. I would recommend studying a full week ahead of time. He's a freak for the reproductive cycles. Good luck!
I adored Prof. Mann. He was really enthusiastic and the dissections were all a lot of fun. He's a bit of a challenge but if you're interested in the material it's worth it. Best science professor I've ever had. Hands down. No homework, or quizzes. Not really strict with attendance, but I suggest going. It's a lot of info to digest.
Dr. Mann is an awesome professor! He really knows what he's talking about and really conveys it easily to the class. He allows in class questions and makes sure everyone understands the subject. His tests are pretty hard but nothing that you can't get an A on if you try. I'd definitely take him again!
Is he smart?? Not enought..at least to keep students taking his class again. He is very hard. He doesn't help you AT ALL! He doesn't care for his students. His labs are fun..but he makes the tests hard as hell. His lectures are straight from powerpoint only..and he doesn't do anything else but read the powerpoint and write and the board quickly.
he is a nice techer and helps you understand to a certain point. But when it comes to lecture and lab test there are impossible to pass unles you story at least two hours every day. Hes test includes two chapters and they consists of multiple choice, filing the blank and short answer that is the part that count the most.
Good teacher, but no nonesense. If you honestly pay attention and TRY, he is helpful if you ask. Do not skip, too much info missed! I struggled with his lab tests but lecture tests were ok (mc and sa). He is very knowledgable! Does EVERYTHING off powerpoint. Good prof, but VERY serious about the class.
I enjoyed this professor, however he has a very soothing and melodic voice that will put you to sleep if you go in after lunch, like I did. I made a B, and got to the point where I would record his lectures on my laptop and take a nap haha. He'll make funny connections and overall he's a good teacher and easy to understand, and always helpful.
AWFUL TEACHER! great person, really cool, but teaching wise no. His class was so hard and the text were unpassable. I studied non-stop and still had no idea what was on the exams.
You get what you put in. If you decide to study a day before, you're going to make a day before grade. He's an overall good teacher. He teaches off of powerpoint, and Tells you what You need to study. Dissection and Labs are the best! He sees the effort made, so put in the work, and take good notes. He's quite helpful.
AWFUL TEACHER STAY AWAY UNLESS YOU WANT TO FAIL!
Good teacher. He speeds through powerpoint notes, so it's a god-send that he posts them on blackboard. This is NOT a class you can slack in and hope to pass. The more class you miss, the harder it is to pass the tests. I'd suggest finding a study buddy FAST.
Although this teacher had alot of knowledge, there were no review sheets and no assistance or hints on the materials the exam would cover. You had four chapters, memorize all four chapters completely for test. Not difficult, but memory skills must be sharp. No homework was given, wish it would have, it would have helped my grade.
I took professor Mann for the summer session(12 weeks)and although he's not an easy professor(his tests are quite tricky and have multiple right answers to each question)I was never bored in his lectures as he has quite a cool way of presenting the material.I liked this professor:)
I LOVE THIS TEACHER, however, he is not an easy teacher, and DOES NOT hand-hold; if you are looking for an easy A, then Mann isn't your guy. However, he is a very nice teacher who is always available to help you if you need it. Labs are interesting and lectures are all powerpoint based. He's a fast talker too, so good note-taking is recommended.
Best professor I've ever had! Took him 3 times. Very smart and is a nice guy. If you don't study, don't take the class. Grow up, it may be hard but for bio majors you will be thanking him in the long run. I still use things he taught me and wouldn't be where I am today without his help. Show him you care and he will care to help. Science isn't meant to be easy. Do your work or get out. He is awesome I recommend taking him to anyone who has a brain.
Dr. Mann is very up front about the test-everything in his notes plus anything he mentions that is important during lecture is free game. U HAVE 2 study hard for this class b/c if you want to get an A you better know the subject like the back of your hand! I will remember everything I learned for the rest of my life! Otherwise, great teacher!
Study everything and that still isn't enough. Unneccessarily hard. Trickey exam questions.
Dr. Mann is no push over, but you know whats expected from day one. No surprises, everyone is on an even keel. Do the work-make an A. He's also kinda awesome. Best prof I've had. He's the kind of guy I'd like to go fishing with, or have a beer with, if he weren't an obligatory authority figure (& married.)
Dr. Mann is very knoweledgable and to me microbiology is interesting. I do enjoy his labs but the lectures can be somewhat dull some times.
Dr. Mann is awesome. You have to work hard if you want to make an A, but I will never forget what he taught me. Moving on to a four year university, I felt ahead of the game once I got there. By the end of the semester I felt like drawing hearts on my eyelids.
GREAT TEACHER :) very helpful and organized, makes bio really interesting, and is very clear in the lectures. Exam are super easy and all based on lecture materail. The class was very enjoyable and easy as long as you put effort into it. Labs were interesting, and overall Dr. Mann is a great professor :) Definetly take his class, you'll learn a lot
I liked this professor a lot. He's a pretty laid back and his classes and labs were always interesting. The tests were not the easiest, but then, I didn't expect them to be. Learnt a lot in his class. He's not the most organized with grading homework on time, but other than that, totally recommmend.
Online class. It would probably be good if he ACTUALLY taught something. I suppose he is teaching this class to get paid and not to make student learn. Also, it takes him a REALLY long time to grade homework so don't expect to know how you did before you move on to the next lab... or next 6 labs.I believe he leaves a lot to be desired as a teacher
Professor Mann was unhelpful. His teaching technique is confusing and does not explain any topic accurately. He is unorganized and does not explain what he wants you to know, so prepare to study every amount of material and hope you have the right information. The book is not necessary. No exceptions for family emergencies for missed work.
He is quite Laid back, makes Microbiology worth your while, study fro his tests you should be fine
This was the hardest class Ive taken in college; only take if last class available.
Homework assignments, labs, and lab tests are all easy A's. Then go to take the 100 question multiple choice exams, and you fail. Gives no study guide, instead expects you to learn from 400 pages wth of power point slides. Complely impossible. DO NOT TAKE.
Prof Mann is an excellent teacher. however do not take him if you are not a good test taker. i was always excited to go to class, he made it to where i was genuinely interested in the material!
Excellent teacher. Taught material in a way that keeps you interested, and the labs were fun. Tells you what will/won't be on the test and answers any questions you give him. But, study for exams CAREFULLY & COMPLETELY
A great prof, explains things very well and is very laid back. Answers all questions clearly. You just have to give the effort. This is a major science course, not a walk in the park. His exams are hard, but A's are attainable with you putting in the effort. Ive gotten A's on the first 2 exams. don't blame him for your laziness. overall very good.
Great teacher!I enjoyed his class and learned a lot. Before this class I had already taken Biology 1&2,A&P 1&2,Chemistry 1&2,& Organic Chemistry. So this class was pretty easy for me but still required lots of studying in order to do well. He has 4 tests(100 questions each+50 extra on 4th test)& lab has a midterm & final. Study & you will succeed.
Professor Mann is the best. He teaches the material very well. That is you must go to class because his notes are important to the test material. His tests are based on the powerpoints he posts on blackboard. Overall very laid back and happily answers any question that you have. Highly recommend.
Grade is dependent on the tests. Four tests (multiple choice) and one final. No study guide. No extra credit. Excessively specific questions. Getting a B on a test was difficult work. You really have to study and read. Go over the powerpoints and, for the love of all that is holy, do not miss a class.
Professor Mann is very educated and I enjoyed him as a teacher. The material is tough and you must be willing to study. The devil is in the details and that definitely applies to Microbiology. Study hard and it pays off. Also pay attention to the extra things he mentions in lectures and study the slides for the tests. He does not give study guides!
All the information is given, you just have to put in the effort. You can't pass just by listening to the lectures and not studying.
Professor Mann was one of the best science Professors I've taken thus far. I had him for Micro and Bio 2 and both were taught very well. His exams are very tough but manageable. I got high B's and A's on all my exams by reviewing my notes ppts. His exams now include a short a short answer section. Going to class is imperative.
Professor Mann, while an excellent teacher, has extremely hard tests. The details he pays mind too in this course are precise and we didn't really use the textbook what so ever. Most everything you need is in his powerpoints. No study guides. No extra credit. Late grader. Course isn't over yet, and I have no clue if I'm going to pass or not.
Tough class with tough material, but i unexpectedly really enjoyed his class. The tests are from his power points and he covers the material very well. I only had to read over my notes once to pass his tests. He's always willing to answer any questions after class, and is overall just very helpful. He has a pet peeve of tardiness though.
Tests are impossible. You cannot miss more then three classes. We did not use the book at all. Either of them. All of the information needed is in the power points and he is a very late grader. You will not know your final grade until the day they have to have their grades in.
Professor Mann is a good teacher and I would definitely take another one of his classes. His tests are long and pretty difficult, so don't wait until the night before to study. He also has a policy where you can drop an exam grade if you miss less than 3 classes, so make sure you show up.
Unless you are skilled in biology, avoid this teacher. Tells you not to get the book, and the entire semester you have to follow along with his poorly organized powerpoints. Lectures are long, you'll take 3 classes worth of notes and expect to have learned it all. Exams are unreasonably hard, always with short answer questions. No extra credit.
This class is definetly not easy, he knows what he is talking about but you rarely listen because his lectures are extremely long that you zone out. You would easily go through about 100 power points slide a day then have to memorize all 400 slides of it for the test which are extremely hard. No homework but you need to study extremely well to pass
Lectures are long, however, he loves Micro and makes it interesting. Lots of fun facts! He is a harsh grader, I would recommend to take this class by itself or with something easier. Memorize by heart all 400 slides per test and you might get a B. 4 test, a handwritten lab notebook, 2 papers, and a lab test. A "C" is the average in class.
try to avoid this class if you can. Although I liked professor Mann as a person, as a professor he is too disorganized and makes a class that is already hard 50 times harder. He will have slides in his powerfpoints that he tells you "not to worry about" and this was extremely annoying to me. We didn't get our labs back until the very last day
If you are not excellent at science avoid this class if you can. The tests are impossible, he isolates small details out of the lectures and focuses heavily on them- they always have 8-10 short answers. There is no bs-ing this class. Do not miss class. The lectures are long and boring. If you put forth effort he will try to help you out though.
Very knowledgable man! Long lectures, but knows how to keep them interesting. If you're fascinated by animals, this is the class for you. Dissections once a week. Only wrote on paper, on my favorite animal.
He didnt even post the final grades to blackboard. You dont get to see any of your tests to go over them .
Very nice guy and makes lectures interesting. Does not keep grades updated on blackboard and never posted the grades of test 4 , final and paper. Even if you do well on the labs it won't help your grade. Class is based on four 100 question test and a final. Each test is on 4 chapters containing massive amounts information. Hard class !!!
The class is all lecture; rarely any homework and grades are test heavy. The class is super easy as long as you pay attention and take good notes. 4 tests (multiple choice plus short answer), around half a dozen to a dozen labs, and a final (multiple choice) I went from hating bio to majoring in bio because of this class, taking him for bio2!
He's a good professor. He loves his subject, enjoys teaching. You have quite a few labs, but they can easily be done during class. He may get behind, so he'll take out a couple of labs. Make sure you do the online quizzes; they're easy, anyways, and help you study for his four tests (plus a microscope test and final.) Final is cumulative.
He shows a power point during lecture but writes his own notes with it so it is important to attend class. There is a quiz for every chapter posted & the KEY TO PASSING HIS EXAMS is to take pictures of all the quizzes after completed (both attempts) and study those. They are the same questions as on the exams. Hes funny and wants you to learn.
He's a good guy, and he's funny. He does want you in class, he gets pissy halfway through the semester if he can tell you aren't reading. Definitely do the lab reading (which is normally like less than 5 pages in a tiny lab book). Tests are MC and generally are questions pulled from online quizzes. If you pay attention, you'll do well.
Professor Mann is great at teaching what he does. For zoology, the lecture was two hours and 50 minutes on Mondays and the same time, but a lab on Wednesdays. If you make flashcards a few days before the test and test yourself, you'll be fine. I actually learned some cool things in this class. He's hilarious and makes the class very comfortable.
Dr. Mann was probably the greatest professor that I have ever had. He is extremely knowledgeable, nice to his students, kept the lecture and lab interesting with great examples. He encouraged questions and also asked questions to the students constantly during class to make sure we understood the material. His exams were challenging but fair.
Its BIO II. Enough said. Work hard and reap the benefits. Miss class wont pass. Otherwise great teacher. Testing is 60 questions multiple choice with the last 40 pts essay style. 6/10 difficulty but you must prepare accordingly. Labs are easy. Lab exam easy. Some quizzes but can take twice. No homework.
Great professor! His lectures are from powerpoints, but he adds his own notes, so definitely don't miss class! He gives great examples of each topic covered. The labs are fun and easy. Each exam is 100 questions, but most come from the practice quizzes! You'll have to study, but you don't really have homework.
Amazing prof with detailed lectures. Make sure to come to class bc most of what he says is on the test! Theres four 100 question exams (exactly based off of quizzes w/ some extra qs), 1 lab exam, and one 4-6 page lab report on an unknown bacteria. No homework but make sure to STUDY because powerpoints (4 for each exam) are about 80 slides each.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR FOR BSC2011 His lectures are 3 hours long where he goes through 100+ slides at a time. The tests require you to memorize 400-600 slides EACH. It is extremely unrealistic. He gives you no study guide whatsoever. All 400+ slides are testable. To make matters worse, each test is MC and free response and he is unorganized.
He is a really great professor. I would definitely take his class again. I loved Microbiology because of this class and cannot wait to take another class like this. He has quizzes posted every time you finish a chapter. He has 4 tests, seriously study for them and study the questions off of the quizzes it will help a lot.
400 slides to memorize per test, no study guide. Very unrealistic. Would avoid at all cost.
He is EXTREMELY lecture heavy! He gives 150 slides per chapter which there is usually around 3 to 4 chapters per test. He does not give a study guide and when ask what to study he says study the power points
He has over 100 slides per chapter and 4 tests in total. Each test have 4 or 5 chapters so 400-500 slides to memorize which is very hard. He teaches very details and expand stuff so much for 3 hours class that u literally cant focus anymore. His tests include MC, short answers but it need to be details. He is picky in grading and late. Unorganized
His lectures are super long but there is never homework. His tests are straight from the notes and quizzes (no trickery questions). Make sure you are there because he writes things on the board that you won't see in just the lecture slides. Lab was pretty easy. Make sure you're reading the pages required before class! Lab test was fun and easy!
Lectures are very long power points. Test are 100 questions multiple choice but no study guide. A very tough grader on labs and reports. Wouldnt recommend at all was the worst class I have ever taken.
There are only 4 exams for multiple chapters with 100 or more questions each that are word for word from PPs he goes over. So get ready to try and memorize each PP which are over 200 slides and paragraph filled. Besides his teaching ways hes very nice and cares about his students.. unless you fail a test and if fail one you might as well drop it.
the worst class i ever took in my life. the average grade in his class is 60. hard to pass !!
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!! He is rude and unprofessional and if you try to reach out to him to ask him anything he'll make you feel bad about it. The class was unorganized and he was not lenient at all to my situation due to COVID. Has no respect for students while demanding excessive amounts for himself. I will NEVER take this professor again!!
Very tough grader. Not lenient with regards to the transition to online class & accepts no excuses. Expects you to memorize multiple 100 slide powerpoints for each exam. Lectures were very dull & he takes forever to respond to emails. Ive always been good at science but I struggled a lot with his class. I would not recommend taking this professor.
Tough grader, never answers emails, NEVER! He words all his tests to confuse you which makes it very hard. all he talked about was people cheating and threatening to do proctored exams if he suspects it. You cant use Quizlet for anything. A test every week w/ ten minutes to do it. 4 hard exams , he makes you earn your grade. A hard 4 page essay.
powerpoints did not help with tests, timed quizzes (10 minutes), could not skip questions ... and tells you if you cheat he will know and fail you
Four exams, a research paper, weekly chapter quizzes, and multiple labs. Gave a few extra credit opportunities and you could turn in labs a week after the due date. Don't skip classes since he gives answers you need for in-person labs. Purchasing a lab manual helps you A LOT. Honestly, if I worked a little harder I could have gotten an A.
just absolutely awful
He was terrible when it came to grading, his lectures were useless because everything he was teaching was rarely on his exams. He would do labs every class, no matter how good you did, the grade barely counted. His PP were too much info to memorize and his exams were just never about anything ever. Worst experience ever, just terrible man.
Course work itself isn't difficult but his lectures do not encompass what the tests contain. I took this class online and I usually watch 2-3 lecture vods weekly. They are not concise and it irks me how he jumps from one topic to another then return to the previous topic. Maybe it annoys just me but I hated taking notes for his class.
I took the hybrid class. Lecture online wasn't bad. He has old recorded lectures to review. No test reviews. Need a lab book but he gives all the wrong pages to read so you're never correctly prepared for lab (: Never responded to any of my emails or phone calls. Allows late work for grade deduction. Overall one of the most unorganized class ever
If you're looking for someone to actually teach you the material, don't look here. lectures (60-100 slides), doesn't go over ANY OF IT WITH YOU, self teach from the generic pearson slides. Slides read as a review Just there to administer test and explain lab procedures but becomes a smart ass when you ask him a question during lab.
Lectures that left me more confused than anything. The labs had no lab guides for the most part and he didn't really seem to like it when approached for help. Non-responsive to emails. A couple of notes were jotted on the board and the rest we had to remember from his lab lecture. Received one study guide for one exam. The rest is up to you!
he is a good teacher and a good man but DO NOT take this class if taking tests are hard for you!! while the homework/labs are easy and the lectures/test reviews are helpful, the tests are 50+ multiple choice and 10+ short response which can be difficult for some. he doesn't do extra credit either!!!
Mr. Mann is decent. He's nice, and during labs would (sometimes) help out. However, I wouldn't recommend him to anyone. He doesn't go over testing information, but posts 70-100 slides per chapter. He doesn't lecture to anything but the labs, and when he does, it's even more confusing. Little to no guidance on anything. Find another professor.
Not really sure why he gets such a bad rep, Professor Mann was actually a pretty good teacher. Lab reports are 10-15 questions all pretty simple if do what you're suppose to do in the lab. Exams are 100 questions, but if you read the power points & do the quizzes you'll do fine. It's a college class of course you can't use notes on exams..
Do not take this professor if you have never taken bio, chem, and anat. You need background in these subjects or you will not pass. He can be nice sometimes but rude other times. If you ask him a question, he will respond rudely. There are weekly online quizzes, 4 lecture exams (READ THE PP ITS ALOT), weekly lab reports and one lab exam.
I did not take the reviews seriously when it said not to take him and I wish I did. He was very rude and arrogant. He constantly lost our specimens so there were times we couldn't even do our labs. The 4 lecture exams are 100 question each on 4-5 chapters. Each chapter is 80+ PP slides and he does not go over them. No exam drops. 2 quiz drops.
Very rude and unwilling to work out misunderstandings due to his poor lack or communication skills with his students. His lectures are just review of what the online work already states, and attendance is mandatory to receive full credit. Absolutely do not recommend, and wish I would have researched this professor before signing up for his class.
BOT1010c - He reads off PP but is really good if you have questions. The tests are a little hard but if you pay attention and study, they where 100 multiple choice so they covered a lot of material. There are a few canvas quizzes and some labs grades but most of the grade is the tests. He doesn't email well but is very willing to work with you.
I actually really enjoyed his class. Yes he does go over pre-made power points but he skipped over a lot of them after explaining fully using real life examples. If you show up and pay attention then the tests don't give you too much grief. He's not great at answering emails but he does answer your questions after class.
Professor Mann's class is challenging, but engaging with his specific teaching methods can lead to good results. Avoid distractions, use the textbook, and try resources like unstuck AI to prepare - it really helped me stay on top of the material.
Absolutely hated this professor personality wise.He was so rude to every student and if you didn't understand the material he would make fun of you and tell you go figure it out.He spent most classes telling us how much he hates his wife and how he wished he made it into medschool. If you miss one class or assignment you can expect a guaranteed fail
DO NOT PIC THIS CLASS! I have never failed a class ever. He hates when you ask a question for clarity. I need one class for the nursing program and now I have a wait another semester.
Dr.Mann was the worst professor that I have ever had. He doesn't explain anything & basically expects students to teach themselves. Very few people in my class passed & study guides don't reflect what is on the exam. Unless you're prepared to read the whole txtbook, you won't pass. On multiple occasions he got mad at students for asking questions.
He is very straightforward about how his class works. I like that he has an old school way of teaching that makes me motivated to do my best. His exams are very long and take up a large percent of your grade, however if you use the study guides you will be fine. I took him for biology 1 and microbiology, only take him in you are very motivated.
