i had professor lacurts for statistics and i thought he was great. a little boring sometimes in lecture, but his tests are easy. he goes out of his way for students and will stay after as long as u need for help on a problem. i recommend him!
I had this professor in high school and he taught then. When I had him for statistics here I knew I was in good hands. Go to him for help!! He is always willing to explain, offer advice, and give help on all! He allowed me to enjoy math (hard i know!)
a very great stats teacher. He was very willing to help also! Take him!
Took his class for a day. No Calculators in exams, which for most is a non starter. Was very clear about his expectations of students though. Watch out!
I hated this class every time I left class I was ready to cry becuase I didnt understand ANYTHING in the class. Many people in the class felt the same way. I am an A student and got a C in his class. I wouldnt recommend him
HARD class, especially if you haven't taken calc before. Be ready to study! Assumes you remember everything from algebra. Hard tests, collects some hw, gives pop quizzes. Overall nice guy who is willing to help.
I took calculus in high school. If you did the same you will have a great time in the class. The homework he collects mirors the tests. He doesn't explicitly say when he is collecting but a good indication is all even problems. He is also a very nice guy. If you need help, he'll will help you.
Really nice guy willing to help, just hard material. Be ready to do some major studying if you haven't had calc before. You leave the class not knowing what is going on. I studied really hard to get low C's on the tests. Do your homework and be ready for pop quizzes he gives them about once a week.
AVIOD THIS TEACHER AT ALL COSTS! This class put me into tears. I would always leave confused, and I thought I would do great and my tests would come back with a horrible grade. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
I took the class for granite and thought it was going to be very easy.. a lot of the work is easy but I should have studied for tests. LaCurts is very helpful and loves his job. Very understanding.
Very knowledgeable and wonderful teacher. He willing to help students with problems. No calculators, but if you pay attention you will not need one. Little homework. A great person.
He is so helpful...I hate math but he made me see it's not that bad! I would take him if you are willing to go see him often. He is very helpful and great to talk to!:)
Very Good teacher, highly recommend
He weeds out the students that don't want to be in the class in the first 2 weeks, but stick it out and he will ease up a bit. If you stay somewhat current on the homework he is happy to help you and his lectures are very helpful and well thought out. He's not the easiest professor but he is one of the most helpful!

Extremely difficult class, STUDY!!!! The statistics part is easier, the probability is very difficult. I'm not sure how helpful he is, I just worked hard on my own and somehow got a B. He will explain wrong answers on quizzes and tests
He teaches from the start like you should know something about stats. Just barely got a D. Was not helpful and very hard to follow. When tried to ask him questions, he kept answering like I was supposed to know something before I walked in the door..... that problem could also be due to stupid freshmen scheduling.
hard ive taken the class twice and yet to pass
Lets you use a blue book on every test. Make sure to fill it up with examples and all your notes and you'll pass the class with a high grade! Great teacher!
If your taking pre calc take LaCurts, i hate all math, but he is very clear and helpful will stop the class in a heartbeat if u are confused, dont miss class, he makes a terrible subject somewhat understandable and easy to pass, take him
He is VERY helpful. Will answer your ?s. Lets you use calculators and blue books on the tests which makes them a whole lot easier. I am horrible at math and I got a B. I took it during a summer session. I dont recommend taking it over the summer because its hard learning 16 weeks of info. in 4 weeks, I had to study a lot.
dont look at all those good rating they will fool you. i did that and took him. he was horrible expected you to know everything. not helpful at all. test are very hard and he is no help. he is like in his own little world and a know it all. i worked my ass off and still got a D. please dont make the same mistake i did. find a better teacher.
I would def reccommend him for math. He lets you use blue books with notes for all the tests. He barely give any homework and his quizzes are very easy. He is very fair about grading adn its pretty east to get an A as long as you put alot of notes in your blue book. Go to class everyday.. he normally lets you out early!
great guy. down to earth. thank you for this website, cuz im glad i picked him. lets you write notes in this blue book u can get at the bookstore for like 16 cents and u can use them on tests. do the assignments he gives out and he doesnt give many but they are easy bank points. throws pop quizzes but they are easy if ur paying attenttion.
One Word: Amazing. Dr. LaCurts taught me so much about math and put forth tons of effort to make me learn. He never gave up on me. I hated math and he made it fun. Awesome guy!
Best math teacher ive ever had. makes you love the subject. there is nothing to say about him that is bad. He knows his math and how to teach it. you have to go everyday but its worth it because the pop quizzes about what you learned that day give you easy points. hes always in his office to help you.
He is a wonderful man and teacher. i hate math, he makes it bearable. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN!
He is very nice but sometimes you cant even understand what he is saying because he doesnt explain things well and he has alot of office hours but i went they were not helpful... his quizzes are easy HE TAKES ATTENDANCE every day so make sure you are there. the class wasnt terrible but IF YOU HAVE THE OPTION TAKE SOMEONE ELSE
He's a funny guy but doesn't relate what he's teaching to real life events. Instead you are forced to write down formulas but not understand how or when to really use them. I found his class pointless and boring. Only plus is you get to use your blue books for everything.
Nice and friendly teacher. For all the tests and final we got to use a blue book that we could write whatever we wanted in. Sometimes boring but most of the time interesting, especially for a math teacher.
class was pretty tough. lots of long long word problems! but a really nice and helpful prof. go after class and ask him for help if your struggling, he will really help you out. and in my opinion, considers your extra effort for your final grade. so ask for your help!
very nice man! he is extremely helpful...anytime you need help he will rearrange his schedule to match yours to help as much as he can!! Make sure you read the text tho...take him if you can! Awsome teacher!!
absolutely boring,i learn math through examples¬es n class and explanations.YET he doesnt teach this way.He relies on the book/readings 2 teach you.I use 2 love math but hate his class. He gives endless assignments that all have 2 b typed, expects alot, gives hard quizzes like no tomorrow.Wont let u see ur tests unless u go to his office..WIERD!
Very very very good! Keeps the lectres short, consise, and logical. Very approachable and does everything to help students outside of class. also his neck makes him look like a turkey (if this is not a distraction, you're golden!!)
BLUE BOOKS FOR EVERYTHING. If you've taken stats before it's alright but he makes you relearn it to the way he does things. He's an ok teacher and you can go to his office for help.
This is the MAN! He is so helpful and he makes sure to keep your attention. I HATE Math with a passion and he made it so easy for me :) 110% take him if you can!
He was very hepful and if youare stuggling in the class just go and ask for help and he will gladly help. He sometimes rambles but it isn't too bad. He's a very nice and genuine man
This guy is my hero... i find his class real easy. barely homework, if he does give out some its sometimes optional. i liked him so much i am going to take him in math 160
love him. he's a great teacher and explain things really well. i would recommend him to anyone.
very good teacher; explained things so you would understand them. expected a lot of out of you.
He is an awesome teacher. Always is there to help even outside his office hours and is very open to any questions during class. There are occassional quizzes and tests but if you pay attention to his lectures, the short readings, and study...you will do great.
Dr. LaCurts is a very nice man. He knows what he is talking about and explains it well. The topic is pretty boring, but other than that no homework and cheat sheets work for me.
I love Professor LaCurts. He is such a sweet man. The subject is boring. Some people complain about having to go to his office for help but he just wants to make sure you're understanding it ok. He wants to make sure that you know he's there to help. For tests, he allows cheat sheets with whatever you want on them. I've had him 2x GREAT!!!
I hate math but Professor LaCurts was amazing. He explained everything throughly and was very approachable outside of class. Make sure you study for the final and DO YOUR HOMEWORK, it counts for a lot if you turn in every assignment on the due date.
Very friendly and very willing to help as much as possible. Take advantage of his office hours if you dont understand something. Study for the tests and do the recommended practice problems. He is VERY monotone and talks a lot so make sure your wide awake before class. Its hard for me to stay awake in the 8am class. Ask if you need help!!
in general, one of the hardest classes ive ever taken, but professor lacurts helped me for basically every section after class. hes always in his office and willing to help you. take his class!
Very hard class. He explains everything in a monotone voice (which at 8 in the morning is awful) and he explains everything so it's unclear. His tests seem easy because the material is easy, but he'll deduct points for dumb reasons.
do not waste your semester with this man you will be down about 500 dollars and a waste of your time. with no prior knowledge of the subject i reccommend students who were like me to find somebody else asap. quizzes are spontaneous and are weeks after you go over the section, the class is on chapter 7 and quiz will be on chapter 5, aka dont takehim
VERY anal about EVERYTHING. If you don't word your answer right, you get no points. He's a very very difficult grader and very anal about everything.
Good guy for the most part. He gives many opportunities for you to get points in the class through the quiz/miscellaneous section. Very helpful outside of class if you make appointments and will take the time to explain stuff to you. He seems to take in account the amount of effort displayed if your in his office a lot looking for help.
I'm not sure where I really stand on this one. Professor Lacurts is very helpful on some occasions but very rude on several occasions as well. The time's he's not being rude, he is very helpful. The quizzes in the class are spontaneous, so be prepared for that. The tests are kinda hard, overall hard class, I got a B, but I struggled.
This guy is really nice, for a course that is brand new he really has his stuff in order. Step by step instructions and a lot of chances to get points makes this class easy to get a good grade in. Study before tests and you will get atleast a B on all.
Mr. LaCurts loves teaching and it shows. He is always available to help you during office hours and after class. He does not round grades but if you work hard and do things going showing initiative and going to his office hours he will consider bumping you up. Great teacher!
I loved Mr. LaCurts! He was my favorite teacher! He was always clear & repeated what he expected out of each assignment turned in. He always made himself available for questions inside and outside of class. I didnt get along w/ my group & Mr. LaCurts gave individual extra credit for each person worth up to 10 points. BEST TEACHER; highly recommend!
Pretty straight forward class! You just do some math from your past grade school years. And if you get an A in the class you are exempt from the Final. So Great!
Very particular about how he wants things done, but you always know what he expects. You are allowed to use notes on your exams! He's very helpful.
Mr. Lacurts is a great teacher. He is very particular about how he wants things done but usually everything he does has a reason. He is very willing to help you outside of class and will sit there as long as it takes to make you understand the content.
His class seems very easy but with how he grades you tend to get a lot of points off for the littlest things. Its very hard to get perfect scores or A's on easy assignments because of that. He also explains things to the point where they are confusing, basically overexplaining. You dont have to take the final if you have an A!
LaCurts was one of my favorite math teachers. He made everything very clear so it made you actually understand the concepts. He explained things so the concepts actually sound easy to you. He is up for answering any questions and stays after class to help you
Took him for applied calculus. Very nice guy who will go to the end of the world to make sure you pass the class. Sometimes during the class before a test he will work on problems that aren't even pertinent to the upcoming test, which is somewhat irritating. The class is easy though and he puts the easiest versions of problems on tests
DEFINITELY TAKE HIM! Get to use note cards on tests, can test out of the final if you have an A before with no rounding. CUTEST AND SWEETEST MAN EVER! Very personable and helpful. Go to him for help if needed; always available. Genuinely cares about his students. Lots of group discussion and gives option to work in partners for test. TAKE HIM!!
You know his expectations from day 1. He provides continuous details each class (with handouts) of the class schedule and expectations. He is VERY willing to meet with you with a VERY open schedule (daily if needed). Does over explain...but you can't say you didn't know...ever in his class. He varies instruction for different learning styles.
He is a great professor! He is always willing to work with you if you don't understand the material. He gives real world examples for each topic. We were allowed to test with a partner or with notes, and sometimes both! Great person! I'm taking him again next semester!
Very Organized and knows his stuff. You know what is expected from him starting on day 1. He will work with you anytime and really wants you to succeed. Tests are easy if you study the previous handouts and Study Guides.
Best math teacher ever! loves the classes he teaches a is willing to work with you whatever the circumstances. Not a lot of homework and makes it easy to understand. I highly suggest taking him!
Dr. LaCurts is amazing! My favorite math teacher on campus. He is always willing to help you. Just make sure to review the material and you will be fine. :)
I absolutely looooved this man! he is a great math teacher, my absolute favorite math and professor so far!!!! i highly suggest taking his class
my favorite professor i have ever had. he may come off as boring sometimes, but i think he genuinely cares about each and every student. do the homework and study for quizzes and you will be fine! i took him for all 3 math classes and i dont regret it one bit
Overall, easy teacher and he offers plenty of opportunities to earn points in class and outside of class. He feels the need to explain things for a long time when it's self-explanatory so he can get boring but the work is easy and he offers plenty of office hours if you need help.
Refused to answer questions, rambled and never made sense. Ignores any and all true education practices. Very frustrating class as an education major. Do not recommend to anyone.
The sweetest guy ever. He is very smart and helps out a lot! He is always giving opportunities to help your grade. If you keep your grade up you can get out of the final, which is cumulative. I've never taken a final for him because maintaining an A in his class is so easy! LOVED HIM!
He is the nicest sweetest teacher ever! His exams were very easy and he lets you use formulas. Very helpful and is very flexible with office hours.
LaCurts is extremely sweet. His classes are not extremely difficult but if you need help, he provides more than enough office hours. He loves his job and you can tell he's passionate about teaching.
He is the most helpful person on this campus whether you are in his class or not. By far the BEST professor on this campus. I HIGHLY recommend him to all. Very very very good professor.
He's a great teacher. If you need help, just make sure you go into the office hour time or shoot him an email.
Professor LaCurts is a great teacher. Show up and take some notes and if you are struggling got to his office hours because they really help. Hes a sweetheart and I would take him for every math class if I could.
Sweetest man ever! He's very lively and funny. Always willing to help if you ask for it. Makes you think critically about simple subjects covered while teaching that you will definitely need to know. He loves discussing Common Core, so be prepared to do a lot of copying and pasting assignments for that. I'd love to take him again.
LaCurts is one of the best teachers I've had. He is extremely helpful and always leaves plenty of time for questions and will make sure everyone in the class understands one subject before moving on to the next. Won't teach the test, but prepares you for the content on it. Always willing to work with your personal life and is very understanding.
Professor LaCurts is such a nice man. His lectures are a little boring because he goes so into detail, but after you leave his class you know your "stuff". He is always willing to help if you need it. His grading policies and assignments are very clear cut. Allows you to have "reference cards" for exams. I would take him again.
I like this math professor, he is smart to handle this course, and students. if you follow all the introduction, and take note carefully, you are able to pass this class easily. The professor is glad to explain all question and problems for you. He is patiently.
Great teacher... can be a little boring during lectures but if you relatively stick with it you will understand material!
He is overall a really good teacher, he is clear when teaching and if you don't understand, just ask and he will make it more clear. His very to the point about what the directions and expectations are. Sometimes he is a little strange but it doesn't really take away from his good teaching. Only problem was he doesn't use MyClasses.
Awesome professor! Very helpful and is open for office hours whenever you need him. Tough course at some points but overall great class!
Went from a previous D to a B in his class..... great professor! I wish I could take him for everything.
Carvel LaCurts is by far the best professor I have ever had. I took Math 130 and 230 with him & will most likely take 150 with him as well! He is the sweetest man ever & really cares about helping out when you need it. I would recommend him to anyone!
For someone who is beyond terrible at math, Carvel LaCurts is definitely the best math professor and professor in general I've ever had! He is willing to help in any way he can and he does not move on to the next lesson until everyone understands what they are doing. He really cares about his students, recommend to anyone taking statistics at SU!
Mr. LaCurts was by far my favorite professor last year, I'm taking him again! He explains everything very clearly and makes sure you practice the material enough so that you know it for the test. The tests are very straightforward, and most are open note. Mr. LaCurts is literally always on campus, and is always available in his office for help.
Professor Lacurts wants you to do well. He's very sweet and goes into detail way too often, but you'd rather him do that then not explain enough. Homework assignments almost every night is one of the only downsides. Offers extra credit all the time. You can miss some classes but it may put you behind everyone else in what you've learned (obviously)
Great professor who clearly outlined the course and was available by email, text, and office hours whenever we had an issue understanding the material. Would highly recommend him. This was a retake course for me and would strongly recommend him for anyone who struggled with Statistics.
He is a great math teacher. Very clear explanations. He doesnt use my classes. His tests are a good mix of easy and hard.
Mr. LaCurts was probably one of my favorite teachers I've had at SU. He's so caring and he truly does want you to pass. He doesn't use MyClasses but he tells you that from the beginning and he still gives you opportunities to know your grades and what you get on test etc. He will go over something until you understand it and he truly helped me !
I LOVED HIS CLASS. He was always available outside of class and always willing to help me. I personally think that the math itself wasn't that hard, so that was fine. He is so sweet and loves to tell stories if you will let him. I would recommend him 100% for anyone.
Dr. LaCurts is an amazing professor! He is very accessible outside of class. You are able to make appointments outside of his office hours and he clearly answers all of your questions. Overall, LaCurts is a caring teacher that masterfully molds future teachers. I would 100% recommend him and am enrolled in his Math 230 course.
Dr. LaCurts genuinely wants everyone to do well in the class. It can be hard to know what your grade is but it's pretty easy material once you get the hang of it. He's always available for help and regularly going to his office hours is probably why he passed me. You'll only need the book for a few assignments.
Caravel was my first mathematics teacher at SU. He's amazing and very detailed and organized. He is always ready to help you or explain a concept.
Great Professor! Took Math 130 and next semester I'm taking him for Math 230. He's so funny and relaxed. He is always willing to meet outside of class to help with things you missed or don't understand. There also isn't a ton of work outside of class (only a few homework assignments). I highly recommend taking him!
Professor Lacurts is a great teacher that genuinely cares about his student's success. He is easily accessible outside of class and always answers your questions. He does not use MyClasses, but his grading is straight forward and he always updates you on your grade weekly.
He was the only professor that taught this class, and I debated dropping the class and taking it over the summer. He is rude and inconsiderate. Multiple people in my dropped the class because if you are not his favorite student he could care less if you succeed.
Great professor. I had him for 130, have him now for 230, and am taking his 150 next semester. I personally am not great at math but Ive done great in his class the past 2 semesters. He Makes even the most complicated concepts seem easy and understandable.
One of the best profs I think I'll ever take at SU. He is amazing at teaching and offers so many grades, office hours, and extra credit. You have to try to fail his classes. I took him last semester for 130, this semester for 230, and will take him next semester for 150. If you get can get him as a prof DO IT! I cannot stress it enough.
The class was very easy as long as you showed up and took notes. The homework only ever took a few minuets and the exams were not too hard (all exactly like what we did in class). He has a policy where if you get an A on all the exams and you can skip the final so that was very nice! I will for sure be taking his class again for 150 and 230.
If you are someone who likes to stay updated with your grade on line, DO NOT TAKE. He doesn't upload anything and expects you come to office hours. While the course itself if easy, I wouldn't imagine taking him for a hard class. He's not terrible, however he's nothing to boast about.
This was my third and final class with LaCurts. I have enjoyed being in his classes and find that if you attend class and do the work, it's an easy A. He definitely has an interesting way of doing things, but he is funny and caring. He doesn't use MyClasses, but clearly states this in the beginning and gives grade updates throughout the semester.
LaCurts is so passionate about teaching, especially math. His office is ALWAYS open and he's willing to meet to review content. He truly is dedicated to his students who put in the work, and will invest his time on them. At times his clarity is low and some people get confused, but if you take the time to talk with him he's always there to help.
Professor LaCurts is by far my favorite professor I have ever had. He is so caring and will sit and explain things to you for hours if needed. If you get an A on everything (which isnt hard because a lot of extra credit is offered) you can skip the final. Highly recommend taking any math class you can with him.
I have mixed feelings about LaCurts, but at the end of the day, he is a really sweet man and a good teacher. Over complicates things at times, but is always there as long as you are willing to ask questions and attend his office hours. Please go to his office hours if you know you might struggle. Doing that changed his class for me!!
I took this class over the winter and if you took statistics in high school it is practically the same thing. It mainly was just a refresher on a high school statistics class. If you take notes, you will have no problem passing the test as his tests are open notes. He's very nice and is always making sure we understand the material.
Professor Lacurts is the best! He's very kind and helpful inside & outside of the classroom. Notes are important to take and study for exams. Lots of grade opportunities as well. He inspired to be a teacher even more than I already want to!
Professor Lacurts is not a bad professor. Although, he has more negative aspects over the goods. Starting with he never puts things into my classes. Secondly, during the class he spends more class time dragging out problems that should not be dragged out. Thirdly, he expects you to come to his office hours if you need any additional help.
really good for math230. explains everything very well.
Lacurts was a very caring professor. He definitely cares about your grade and wants to see you pass. My issue with him was his lectures. He spends an entire class talking about one thing that is very easy and understandable but will then pass right by something that is actually pretty challenging.
Professor LaCurts is a good PERSON but I wouldnt say the same about his teaching strategies. 3 questions quizzes, and does not use my classes. Although, he is very accessible outside the classroom
he is a very sweet guy and is always willing to help any time outside of class. he will drop your lowest test score at the end. HOWEVER, he does not use canvas at all so you do not really know your grade unless you keep up with the scores you get on a paper chart he gives you that you have to constantly update.
Dr. LaCurts is very nice and informative. I went to his office multiple times during office hours for homework, and he was always able to help. He also responds to emails fast. His class style was hard to adjust as I did not have him for 130, but it was easy to understand once I adjusted. You will probably be lost if you do not come to class.
He always will always try and help you, very friendly.
Professor LaCurts is a very sweet man that is there to help you with any questions. His lessons are a little repetitive, but he ensures you master each content area. Besides being a professor, he strives to form connections with students.
carvel is a very caring professor and wants to ensure that everyone clearly understands the material before he moves on (sometimes he explains something for 20 mins that could be told in about 30 seconds but at least he is thorough). he does not use my classes or really the internet in general so everything is on paper handouts including grades
I think its time Carvel retires.
he's very accommodating and a very kind teacher. he's super understanding to mistakes. the downside to this class was that his lectures weren't very engaging so it was hard to focus on at 8am lol and he also doesn't use myclasses smh. but i would totally love for him to be my teacher again he's great!
Professor LaCurts is great - really helpful during office hours and responds quickly to emails. The class can be tough to adjust to, but he offers lots of extra credit and grade opportunities. Unstuck ai was a lifesaver for study prep.
If you pay attention and go to class, it's a pretty easy class, Professor LaCurts is very nice and flexible as long as you talk to him and use office hours if needed.
Pretty easy instructor. My complaints were he didn't tell you your percent grade (would only give you your letter grade if you ask). Also made a 45 minute long project you had to sign up to do at 7am before lecture at 8, about the definition of the mean, because a lot of people got a quiz question wrong, which he could have done in lecture.
Professor LaCurts is a very sweet man who wants to see all his students succeed. He is very accessible outside of class and will help you until you understand the content well.
he is so nice and really cares about students. his lectures can be hard sometimes as he likes to tell stories but he is always willing to help you outside of class and provide you with more help
Dr LaCurts is a GREAT professor! his classes aren't mandatory but b/c everything is by paper, if a class is missed it can be hard to catch up on material. also, there are quite a few tests throughout the semester but as long as you take good notes during class and study, they aren't hard. As long as you show up and take notes his class is easy!
Honestly, he is a sweet old man, and will take office hours to to explain things, HOWEVER he is a chronic yapper, and he reitterates the same information in slightly different ways and starts to make it confusing, but if you tune him rambling out you'll be fine
Professor LaCurts is awesome!!! He is sweet, and very approachable. I would say this class is hard but he always is happy to explain stuff to students in his office hours.
