Pretty good teacher. He knows what he is talking about. He uses powerpoint slides every class and the tests are very straight forward. He gives everyone 2 chances for extra credit throughout the semester for 20 points each assignment. He does really fun extra credit assignments, such as going out to look for Tule Elk.

He's an EXCELLENT teacher. Very kind, helpful, funny, and appealing to all different learning styles. Has a good personality, will bend over backwards to teach material, and makes it fun.

He is a great teacher and will probably be one of your favorite professor. His powerpoints are easy to understand and he gets tired pretty easily, so there are a lot of breaks. He wants to make sure every student passes and will help you any possible way he can. The labs can get a little long sometimes but its totally doable. Take his class.

Coburn is a fairly easy teacher. Take him! I'm not a Bio major,but found his class interesting. He made the topics easy to understand and had power point slides for lecture (super helpful). There is a short 5 page term paper at the end which you get feedback on before the final submission. There is extra credit opportunities and his test are EASY!

An overall fun teacher. His teaching style is great and he very engaging with teaching the material. You just need to do the occasional homework packet and pay attention and you will do well in his class.

Easily the best professor on the LB campus. I recommend this class to all my friends because he brings light into a subject that could get dull. Such an amazing guy, inside the classroom and out. Just a goofy, smart, fun-loving guy. Be prepared to see lots of Diet Coke cans in his hands throughout the semester too!

I took him for Fall, he made biology understandable and easy to follow through his lectures, and also gives students the option to use powerpoint notes that he provides for his students to print out and take to class and fill out the blank, which helped me get involved in his class and follow along. I enjoyed this class, recommend it!

I cannot recommend this man more, he is a good man and is really passionate about his work. Funny as hell and will make it almost impossible for you not to pass. Show up to lecture because his notes hit hard and his practice tests are key to doing well. Other than that, Fantastic Bio Prof.

It's impossible not to pass. He provides study guides and practice questions at the beginning of the each major test that will guide you to an A in his class . He is always there to help if you have questions or not understanding the material and if you forget a scantron he is always willing to back you up. Great professor. Two thumbs up.

Dr. Coburn is passionate about his job, very knowledgable, accessible outside of classtime, & puts in alot of effort in providing what the student needs to pass his class --as long as the student is accountable for showing up, paying attention, using his resources (fill in blank lecture notes, practice exam Qs, study guide), and reading.

Loved being in his Biology 2 class. He sometimes says jokes during lecture just to see if students laugh about it and are paying attention. Which is what makes his class fun and interesting. He also show some real-life examples of the material he is teaching that way students can easily learn the material and be able to stick it in their knowledge.

He is an awesome Bio teacher. His office hours are there so use them and he is a great help. Lab has 15 question quizzes so study your lab manuals before class. He gives study guides to all his test and a practice test, everything on the study guide will be on the test so focus more on that. This teacher has an awesome attitude.

Dr. Coburn is definitely the coolest professor ever. Study off his lecture notes as well as study guides and practice tests and you are sure to get an A. Fantastic teacher. Gives you all of the tools you'll need to do well - just put in the work. No extra credit or curve. Will call you out if you are texting or leave before lecture/lab is done. Can get grumpy if students are horsing around or not paying attention to instructions during lab. Expects students to act professional and follow rules.

He's organized. Lets students know whats happening. Keeps up to date. I would recommend to print out his lecture notes. Dont even bother to buy the book. Dr. Coburn was exceedingly understanding during Covid. All classes had been moved to an online format for summer and he worked tirelessly to make labs available and effective for students. Study guides and practice questions directly from lecture were reflected in quizzes and exams. Keep up with lab/lecture and you will do great in this class.

Awesome prof! He does two zoom meetings a week but also records them if you cant make it. The work he assigns stays about the same and if anything new changes he lets us know. Great communication! Every chapter you have about 2 quizzes and 1 tophat lab online (due to covid). He is funny and respected. Highly recommend taking him!!

I highly recommend any class taught by Professor Coburn. Coburn is a great lecturer and can make the most difficult biology subjects easy to understand. The tests are difficult but he provides study guides and practice questions. He is also very accessible in office hours and you can tell he really cares for the success of his students.

I really enjoyed taking his class. It was very organized we had the same routine each week. You do a lecture and a lab followed by a lab quiz and a few exams in the semester. All of his test and quizzes came straight from what we learned either in lecture or lab! I would 100% take him again he is fair and he loves what he teaches.

I took Bio 18, Physiology with professor Coburn this Spring of 2021 w/ an online lab and it was great. His lectures werent mandatory and the take home lab kits were easy to follow through. Coburn doesnt fail to be there for you and has plenty of office hours. Ive taken several science courses with him and I would definitely recommend him!

I took Professor Coburn for BIOL-18. There are 5 exams plus the final. The final is cummulative. He gives study guides and practice test questions for each exam. He is very helpful and accessible outside the class, attend office hour. He gives a whole week to take the exam. There are lab quizzes which are super easy if you do the lab right.

I had the privilege to take both Bio-02 and Bio-18 with professor Coburn in different semesters. He is such a caring and understanding professor. He breaks things down so that you can really understand what your learning. If you have the opportunity to work with him, DO IT! You wont regret it !

Best Teacher I've had for Bio I retook bio 2 after not passing it the first time and the second time around he made the criteria so clear and offers lots of help with study guides.

Mr. Coburn is a GREAT professor. The material is not easy, this class requires lots of time to understand whats really going on. Lectures are great and very forward with the material, Class was online during covid. Did a great job. If you attend lectures ad office hours its the perfect opportunity to ask questions. Mr Coburn explains things great.

He is an amazing instructor. Truly, cares for his students. Material is straight forward, he literally tells you what is going to be in the test & what u need to study. DO study guides! and Dont just know grey is grey, know that black and white make gray. Dont hesitate to let him know your concerns he will work with you! he is so nice!

Dr. Coburn is an amazing professor who really cares about his students. He goes out of his way to give you answers to your questions and will go out of his way to find the answer if he doesnt already know. Gives no assignments other than occasional quizzes about the lecture, as long as you pay attention to lecture and take knows you will pass.

ALL exam based.... Dr. Coburn is a nice guy, he is understanding of life and will let you remake exams and labs. Ive taken him for my biology classes and he has been good. He gives tough exams but also gives you a study guide and questions to be prepared. He does twist around the words though so STUDY.

Professor Coburn actually made me love biology when it was a subject that I have previously struggled with in the past. So much so that it is now one of my favorite subjects. His lectures are pretty entertaining and he loves telling jokes! Always reachable outside of class and truly a wonderful professor to be taught by.

Cary Coburn is one of the best professors I've ever had. He truly cares about his students' success. His class definitely isn't easy, but if you take the time to study and go over his study guides and practice questions, you will do well. Currently taking him for Physio right now. I had him for Human Biology and I knew if I could I would take his class for whatever else he can teach me to succeed as an RN. Studying is required for this class in order to receive a good grade. Pay attention during lectures and read over your notes and you should do well.

Bio-18 itself is a tough class but the professor is not only knowledgeable but passonate about the subject which makes learning the material that much easier. He is able to put "dumb down" the material so anyone can understand it. He is one of the few professors that activally encourages you to visit him at his office hours becuase he truely cares.

I highly suggest Professor Coburn! Biology can seem intimidating, but he truly cares. He understands the anxiety exams come with, making his feel like a breeze. He provides great lectures that are easy to follow along. His provided study guides reciprocate the material meaning the exams are just as similar. Textbook is recommended, but not needed.

Hands down one of the best professors at Merced College. His class is not challenging at all. The material is hard to understand, and the science classes aren't easy. However, you'll want to learn the material with Coburn and attend his office hours. He has a conference room for students to study in and even checks up on you occasionally

Coburn was the best professor! He is always available in his office if you have any questions. Coburn gives out a study guide and practice questions. As long as you study those, you'll do great in his class! You will have 14 lab quizzes (one every week after lab), 5 lecture quizzes, 4 midterm exams, and a final (worth 150 pts).

AMAZING biology professor would definitely recommend him for any biology course. Always in office and willing to talk about anything you need. He has a really organized & clear grading criteria. Tests were not hard as long as you studied the study guides you'd be completely fine. No homework so you're graded off lab quizzes/practicals/5 exams.

It was my first semester at the college and Coburn was my absolute favorite professor ! His lectures/labs are fun and he breaks things down if you don't understand. He's the type of guy who has passion which makes you more interested. Study the packets/slides given and you're set! Can't forget to add I love the dad jokes he slips in haha.

Coburn is by far then one of the best professors I've had on campus. While it can be intimidating, his enthosiasm teaching makes it a comfortable environment to learn in. As long as you study the study guide and the practice test you will be fine. He is also available in his office hours and is always happy to explain any questions you may have.

Professor Coburn is a very knowledgeable individual. His class is straightforward. You go to the lectures, take notes, and study. You participate in the labs. This class requires time and effort, but isn't the hardest. Sometimes his lectures were information cram sessions, but overall they weren't so bad, he's funny and entertaining which helped.

He is a very good straight forward professor. He gives many study guides and they are not mandatory but very much needed to do well on the test, he gives no surprises and sticks to a very straight forwarded schedule. Will help you when needed and overall very great, I took bio in the summer which was very fast paced but I did learn much.

Engaging lectures and helpful study guides from Professor Coburn. Attending class and using Unstuck AI alongside the textbook are key to doing well. Manageable difficulty, would recommend.

Dr. coburn is an amazing professor and he does care about you succeeding. STUDY your study guide he gives you and try to attempt the practice questions first before grabbing the key from him. Made the mistake of not studying my study guid for our first exam and received a D. There are no surprises with the exams or lab quizzes, attendance matters.

Best professor for Human Bio in my opinion

Coburn is very respectful and loves the night classes the best, he says that he has "more patience and respect for them because we work during the day." Tests are pretty easy as long as you do the study guide, he gives you. The study guide is EXACTLY like the test. My lecture was online and just had him for lab, but he was great!

Coburn was very kind and funny. Bio was king of hard but he made it easier and labs were fun. He gives you everything you need to know for the exams on the study guides. In total there was 2 lab exams and 4 lecture exams and a final, and lab quizzes after every lab that were easy. I hope I get to take Coburn again for Physiology.

Don't be afraid to ask questions, Physio is not an easy class. But, Coburn taught it well. You get one extra credit assignment and there's a presentation for lab. As for exams, the practice tests help a lot so don't ignore them. The study guides help as well but make sure you get the material down because the wording on the exams can be confusing.

I took Biology 2 during Fall 2024. I enjoyed his lectures, I actually understood a lot of it and learned new stuff everyday. No homework basically but just make sure to study the yellow papers for his exams. I definitely recommend his class! Lab exams were easy if you studied the material. There were no surprises on lab exams or lecture exams.

If you actually want to learn something, Coburn will put you right on track. He doesn't use the textbook, he takes the info right out and makes it into his own notes. Also Labs are easy and fun. I took BIO2 in the summer which was a 6 week fast pace class. He provides lecture notes, study guides, and practice questions for every exam and lab practical that are very helpful. Has small quizzes after lab and throws around dad questions a lot. He even helped me print out my parking permit so I wouldn't get ticketed.

His studying guides set you up for success! I could have got an A in the class if more effort was put into studying. Have a good study groups. He's available in office if you have questions. Each week after lab you have a 15 point quiz. All questions are what you just went over, so pay attention. There are 4 lecture exams, 2 lab exams and a final.

I took him for bio18 physiology and i would 100% take his class again. His labs are mandatory, i would suggest attending every lab because his lab practicals are based off the labs and what we did. He provides you with a study guide that is exactly like his lab exams so that's really nice of him. Funny guy, great professor and class, thanks coburn!

Dr. Coburn is an excellent choice for Physiology. He lays out the study guide material question by question, with thorough explanations that help the student understand the process of the topic. One thing I appreciated was his ability to break down and unpack the material clearly. Really enjoyed his lab.

I took Coburn for BIOL 02 human biology and everything Is easy ONLY if you study and pay attention. When we take exams he provides us with a study guide that covers 99% of it. Labs are so important, it helps you understand lectures. He is also really funny, he is really understanding if anything comes up. Great professor and great class!
