This was first college course ever, and I was so nervous. He demands a lot of his students, and the course is very writing intensive, however he would ALWAYS proof read a paper before handing it for me if I asked, and would allow for corrections afterward

Henson is a fantastic English prof. He pushes you to think of texts in ways you didn't before, and is great about constructive comments on your work.

Professor Henson is very knowledgeable and thorough. I feel that is really preparing me for my major in English. Very challenging and writing intensive but I promise you will get something out of his class. Don't be surprised if he wears a lot of baseball jerseys! He must have upwords of 20!

Mr. Henson was a very interesting, as well as knowledgable teacher. He pushed me to think and write in many different ways. His enthusiasm encouraged me to further my studys in English.

I've had him for two classes and would take another one. He is a very hard teacher and demands a lot of work out of him students, but in the long run it makes you a better student. He is very knowagable and will go out of his way to help students.

Very interesting class. Best professor I ever had. Is a difficult grader when it comes to papers and demands a lot of work. Should be a 5 credit class. You have a paper or assignment due every week. Class is mandatory but it is well worth it.

Prof Henson is incredible... what you'd expect in a university program because he challenges you and expects a lot. I learned more from him than any of my professors but I had to work my ass off and sometimes neglect other classes.Definitely take his class even if you're scared of the work-worth it!

Hensen is one of the best prof's I've ever had- he is very difficult and really makes you earn an A (that's why they're A's, he says). Definatly made me put my other classes on the back burner- would take another class taught by him any day- hard, but well worth the effort!

Henson is an amazing professor. If you are in his class you WILL learn, if you are not prepared or willing to work hard then it will be difficult. Very intelligent and knowledgable and an asset to higher education.

Henson is a very smart and learned professor, but he expects a lot out of his students. I came out of this class with a lot of new ideas and a better understanding for lit. Drawback... he likes to talk a lot, don't expect enriching whole-class discussion

Tough class, but i got more out of it than out of any english class i've ever taken.I went to his office hours to get help with a few papers, and he was very helpful.If you go to class, work hard, and participate in class he will be very helpful to you. I'd recommend his class to anyone who is willing to work hard and wants to improve their writing

If you are lazy don’t take this class! You will write your @ off. It certainly didn’t feel like 100 level course. I had to skip some of my other classes in order to get stuff done, and everyone I knew in that class said that they were doing it too. Don’t get me wrong professor is awesome. I liked the course anyway. It’s just not for lazy ppl.

I didn't like most of the readings, but that's just a matter of personal taste. I thought he was a good professor. DO NOT take the class over interim if you can help it; it's way too intense!

I really like professor Henson. His class is very challenging, but if you work hard and most importantly do the work you will get a decent grade. He is always willing to answer questions and loves helping the students. I'd say he's one of my favorite professors so far.

I seriously thought he was the best teacher I had. I had him for the topic of genocide and he got me really into it. He was a hard grader and there was a lot of work but I really enjoyed him and I learned a lot. If you just start the papers early enough your fine. he taught me a lot and I loved him haha

Prof Henson is a great teacher and I really enjoyed his class a lot! He is very tough and the readings are difficult, but the work is very much worth it. He is very passionate about both english and teaching, and it really shows. If you don't want to do a lot of work, don't bother, but if you're willing to learn and improve, take this class!!

Professor Henson is the greatest professor I have ever had. He is the man that will make you work for your grade. He is the person who every English major needs to take because he opens up your mind to brand new ideas and ways of looking at the world. There is no one that can teach better than Henson.

Awesome professor. Very helpful and extremely knowledgeable about the subject. There is a lot of work involved but if you do it in a timely fashion you will be successful. I highly recommend this class.

He's a demanding teacher, usually fair, though. Before you register make certain you have approx. twice as much time to devote to his class than to your other classes. You will learn a lot, or you will not pass.

Henson is a tough guy, but he knows he needs to be. He is challenging because he cares about his students' education. He wants us to actually LEARN something and grow as a writer. He doesn't mess around. He always grades thoroughly and fairly. He won't give you a grade you don't deserve. I like him a lot because I have a lot of respect for him.

Absolutely amazing professor. Sure he is challenging, but I respect that, because he only assigns us what he knows we can, or at least should be able to handle at this level in our college career. He is very willing to work with his students outside of class. I recommend him to everyone...and, he's a funny guy too.

A good professor overall. More difficult than the other WBIS classes, but he treats you like an adult. Many people didn't like him, but I like the way he teaches and the class was pretty interesting.

I recommend Henson's classes to everyone I know whether they are an English major or not. The class may be strenuous, but it creates a greater appreciation for literature and critical thinking. He finds the light in a field of study that never fails to make people feel stupid. He's helpful and interesting, and only wants to better his students.

Professor Henson is an amazing instructor! He will make you work for your grade, but is there to help you every step of the way. He teaches at a challenging university level, which is a pleasant change from many other instructors. I had Henson for Honors 110 and he made it one of the most interesting and fact filled classes I've ever had! :)

If you are a student who plans on working hard in college at studies, and you actually want to learn, take Henson! He is definitely hard...but he is an amazing teacher! He is very smart and very helpful! Take him if you are not afraid to work hard!

I had him for Honors Comp. and he was an AMAZING instructor! He's a tough grader and expects a lot out of his students but you learn a LOT from his class. If you really want to learn and improve your english skills I highly suggest him for a professor!

He is one of the harder english teachers I have had at UWO but at the same time makes sure you know your stuff. Go to class and don't procrastinate on any of the papers and you will be fine.

DONT procrastinate! And make sure you do not make ANY grammatical errors in your papers(you write a lot more then the other WBIS classes too).

Henson only receives low ratings from non-english majors or those who attempted to be English majors and couldn't hack it. His office is always open to help people with papers and various homework. He is passionate about his subjects and his students. You just need to actually put in some effort, which I know is unheard of in college these days.

Dr. Henson is the best professor I have ever had. I also took his WBIS class. I admit his classes are hard and very time consuming but it's worth it. Do not take his classes if you procrastinate or are lazy, you won't do will. he knows a lot about pretty much everything, you won't regret it.

Great professor!! The class is pretty hard very time consuming and he expects a lot but I learned so much. I had him for WBIS . He really knows his stuff and answers any questions you have. After taking this class i feel like it will be much easier to write papers in the future DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!

Great teacher; one of the best I have encountered. He took a topic I was not very interested in (genocide) and made it intriguing. Very hard and challenging, but it forces you to grow and that's why you're in Honors anyway! He has a grumpy/gravely serious disposition but won't take it out on you; turn your phone off before class and you'll be fine.

Professor Henson's class is very time consuming, and he is a tough grader. If you do your work and attend class you will succeed in this class. Professor Henson is extremely passionate about his teaching and will always do his best to help you when you need it. He prepares you for future classes.

I absolutely loved Henson's class. It is definitely not a class to take if you want an easy A, but if you want to learn and grow, Henson's class is the best way to do it. His assignments and projects are very difficult but he gives you enough time and support to complete them all.

To get an A you need to be not only a very talented writer/researcher coming into the class, but you need to devote an absurd amount of time. Class is really just for instruction purposes, so all your work will be done outside. Very rewarding and he is worth taking.

You will have your plate full with this course. We had papers and projects due every week, but it is worth it! Due to his class, I no longer have difficulties writing 7+ page papers! He is an excellent professor who pushes his students to succeed. Do your homework and you'll receive a passing grade. Good Luck!

He got the most out of me and all of my friends that took the class. He challenged you more and more throughout the year. He helped me out on many papers to help me improve my grade. He is a very good professor but very tough.

In his class, there was never a time we didn't have a project due. He is very nice, and a awesome teacher if you like a challenge. But if you are looking for an easy semester he is not right for you. He even says people drop his class often. He grades fairly though. His quizes are easy. He wasn't aweful, but I personally wouldn't take him again.

Professor Henson is by far one of the best Professors I have had at UWO. Yes he is tough, but he is also very helpful! Go to him during his office hours, actually work hard on the papers and you will make it. He WILL make you work hard. But at the end of the semester you will know you became a better writer. LOVE HENSON! :)

Very challenging class, but he does make effort to individually help students. You can tell he does care about each and every one of his students. LOTS AND LOTS OF PAPERS! Always read the chapters. Class will make you a stronger writer. Definitely recommend him!

This class will really make you work for your grade. You will have essays all the time and will have to spend a lot of time on them. I didn't think I would be able to make it through the class, but I did! If you want an easy A, don't take this class. If you want to learn a lot, then this is the class for you. Hard, but worth it!

Henson is one of the best professors I have had in 3.5 years. He explains all assignments in great detail. He also encourages critical and deep thinking while also challenging you. If you enjoy history, you will like this class. He takes an interesting approach on every topic keeping your attention throughout the semester. GREAT PROFESSOR!

Yes, Henson is definitely a hard grader. Don't take this class if you want an easy A, you won't get one. The class requires work, but I learned so much. Plus, he comes off as scary, but he's actually a really cool guy. Moral of the story: Take if you want to increase your skills in English and learn a ton. Avoid if you're looking for a blow off.

Tough Grader, but very helpful in office hours. Got an A thanks to the writing center and getting clarification/feedback in office hours. Challenges you to think critically and really improved my writing ability. Mostly respectful, don't ask stupid questions, come prepared.

Henson is a tough grader, but very personable and willing to help in the office. Buy the book, go to the writing center, and DON'T wait until the night before. Put time into your work and he will see it. Come to class, and come prepared - discussion almost every class period. Hard work, but my favorite professor. Learned a TON.

Very hard class but hes very helpful if you are willing to ask for help. He's very passionate about what he does. the content is not easy to read and is graphic, but it's also very interesting. If you're willing to put in the work you'll get A LOT out of the class and feel very accomplished after the semester!

I took Henson WBIS class my very first semester. At first when I found out how long and how many assignments we had. I was terrified and thought I would never be able to do it let alone pass. By the time the class was done I was able to write papers 15+ pages (my final was 22 btw). It was the hardest thing I've ever done, but the most rewarding.

Professor Henson is a good professor. I came out of high school a strong writer due to my school's preparedness for college. If you aren't a strong writer, you will struggle. The only reason the class helped me become a better writer is through hours and hours of writing for Henson. Not from the class itself.

First of all, his class was one of the hardest I've ever taken. With that said, my writing has improved significantly, and he is super helpful as far as office hours, feedback, and helping with resources. He has very high expectations for his students but supports them all the way through the course. I would take him again, but it was TONS of work!

You will write and read 1 million quadrillion pages. I got a C and I did put effort forth, my writing just wasn't that great i guess. Memorize MLA formatting or else you and your grade will be a lost cause.

Cary Hensen was the hardest teacher I have ever had. With never ending assignments I was overwhelmed as a freshman. He was very clear on what he wanted and really helped my writing improve. But this class is very difficult and I really thought I was failing throughout the course.

Professor Henson was a good teacher but an extremely hard grader. You will have homework all the time and the assignments are difficult and require a lot of work. Do everything he asks or expect a bad grade, and even if you do everything he asks you will still probably not get the grade you are hoping for

This course should only be taken from him, if ready for assignments left to right. The readings are endless. You cannot slack off in this course. If you do take it, you will be happy by the end . He is helpful and willing to do whatever is needed. Go in the office hours as long as you try. You will do great.

This course is challenging but it pushes you and helps you learn skills that are necessary for future papers in the future. It is a lot of work but it is truly worth it! Henson is an amazing professor who answers all questions and offers many opportunities to get help. He truly cares about helping students be successful! I would take him again!

There will be no rest in this class. You will finish one paper and be working on the next. Henson can come of rude and condescending at times, but if you go in office hours he will help you greatly. Material can get boring and frustrating. I would suggest avoiding him unless you want a serious challenge and lots a tears shed.

So the tags don't look the greatest, but I love this guy. I took his Lit & Film class as an interim and, even though it was difficult, I enjoyed it. He makes you work for your grade and explains new concepts thoroughly before moving on. Very interesting class and he's great to talk with after class.

My class focused on genocide novels which was nice to read fictional books, but you really need to be on top of the readings in order to participate in class. I would recommend doing your papers right away so you can get an opinion from him. I worked really hard and still don't know what his stellar level criteria is. Passionate guy, and is caring.

I learned a lot from this course and Henson. This class does take a lot of hard work, though. If you want a good grade then put the time in. Start the papers as soon as Henson mentions them, don't procrastinate! You do NOT want to wait until the last minute to do the 20-page final paper.

Professor Henson comes off as a very tough/rude man. But, going to his office hours, putting in the time and effort for this class you will do just fine. I had a personal problem come up right before our final rough draft was due, I went to his office hours to explain what happened and he gave me extra time to work on it.

WBIS 188 is a very tough class, but if you put significant time and effort in you will do well. He does assign a lot of readings, but they actually contribute to your learning. He is a passionate teacher and is very willing to help his students, but he is considerably busy so don't expect him to go out of his way to help you. That must come from u.

Professor Henson's WBIS 188 course the hardest WBIS class you can take at Oshkosh. He is a very good professor who is very passionate about what he teaches but you have to work very hard to even get a B in this class. Going to office hours will help. Final paper is over 20 pages. Do not take if you are an athlete and in season... it sucks.

Cary overall is very knowledgeable about English. Although, he assigns a crazy amount of essays to write which are ridiculous. If you are willing to read a ton and write many essays take him, otherwise avoid him at all cost!!

Henson is good at his job, but he doesn't make it easy on his students. He views grades as something you have to work for & he can tell when you don't try, your grade will reflect that. Read the material, participate in class, ASK QUESTIONS if you don't understand something. He is willing to work with you and help you, but you have meet him halfway

Great professor, very strict and wants you to learn. Difficult papers and projects but manageable.

His class is brutal. The longest assignments that I ever did were in his class. If you want an easy class there are others. However, Henson is probably the professor I learned the most from at this school, if you TRY and give a hoot, he IS willing to help you. I don't regret taking him, but for him to be worthwhile you have to actually do work.

This class was honestly amazing. If you do the work thoroughly and on time, you will be perfectly fine. Personally, I did not even think the workload was that bad. There are multiple drafts before an assignment is due, so you have time to correct and ask questions. His passion for his work is extremely admirable and eye-opening.

Do not let the other comments sway your opinion of Professor Henson and his teaching style. He is a university professor who teaches university courses with a high difficulty. It's not meant to be easy, but to make you think and grow as a person. Many do not have this mindset. Put in the work and you will surely benefit in the future.

Professor Henson makes you work for your grade, but after taking his class, I felt like I became a much better writer. He may come across as intimidating and blunt, but he gives you solid feedback to help you better yourself rather than get rewarded. There was a lot of reading and papers in his class, but as long as you TRY, you will do well.

Intelligent and has a deep understanding of what he's teaching. Expects students to read/understand the books and the historical context behind them. Quizzes are difficult, should be ok if you study. He will go over the answers after and uses them on the midterm and final. He does expect you to work for your grade, but it is manageable.

What Henson lacks in people skills, he makes up for in sheer knowledge of the material. Expects you to go to class and do all the reading, but has vastly improved my writing skills. Offers office hours to talk in depth about feedback given on previous assignments and while expects a lot, will give you resources to help meet those expectations.

Prof Henson is an incredibly knowledgeable and tenured professor who maintains high expectations for students. Much of his coursework is time consuming and his grading process is extremely meticulous. However, if you put forth the appropriate amount of effort, you will surely benefit and be prepared in upper-level courses.

Any negative reviews are probably by Gen Z, entitled students. Is he a tough grader? Yep. Are his comments of feedback to-the-point? Uh-huh. Will you have a ton of homework? Definitely. But will you learn more in his class than any other class in the English department at UWO? 1,000 percent. I respect this man so much. Took him twice on purpose!

I took Literature and Film during my first semester as an exchange student from a Spanish-speaking country, completely unaware of what I was getting myself into as a non-native English speaker. Hard class but Prof. Henson was one of the best professors I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. His class changed my life! 100% would take it again.
