Awesome teacher. He grades hard but makes his class fun and enjoyable.

Doesn't give a lot of writing assignments, but doesn't have low expectations either (ended up with a "B"). Great and generally entertaining teacher.

This is one of the hardest classes I took in my freshman year. However, you learn a lot after having taken a class with Ser. He is an awesome professor and even though he is a hard grader, he's also really helpful and a great human being. Very fun too.

great teacher, He's strict but at the same time, he'll do all he can to help you you jsut have to ask for it. He made the material interesting nad really knows how to teach his stuff, just dont wait to do work at the last minute! He really cares about his students, which is rare.

Very good teacher. Super knowledgable. Goes over all assignments in class. Very hard grader, but loves to see progress. DO NOT LEAVE ANYTHING LAST MINUTE! Do assignments ASAP and keep up to date with all. Hilarious. He is for students that really want to learn and not slack. Slackers.....run away!

Dr. Ser is the best professor I have had. He is so inspiring! He is a tough grader because he expects great things. He will tell you exactly what you need to improve to become a great writer. Yes, he's tough. I took ENC 2301 during a 6 week summer a course and he made us do all of the work normally done during a fall semester. I worked very hard and he made me cry blood, sweat and tears. However, he taught me some valuable lessons. Since then, I have published ALL of my graduate work and then some. He is the best.

He's very nice guy but he's ALWAYS late and sometimes doesn't show up and you go to class for nothing. But when he is there you learn pretty well. You want a slack class take him. and he doesn't give you many test or quizzes but he can grade tough sometimes but he's not so bad. overall if you want it easy you can take him.

ok he is a very picky grader, but if you really try you should at least get a B in the class alog with doing your h/w u should be fine

He is not an easy professor.....don't try him. He loves teaching and tries to get his students interested in the material as well. His tests are hard and he expects you to work for your grade. If you are taking this class to meet a gordon rule requirment, don't. If you love lit and want to learn...he is the best teacher in the english dep't.

The most amazing English professor you will ever have!he teaches you how to write fantastic papers. he is a bit critical, but its all constructive criticism. he is my favorite! i can't say enough about him. he's extremely funny too! highly reccommended.

HONORS COLLEGE - The semester consists of reading from a book on Global issues, some random articles, and writting 3-5 essays. He forms groups and each group teaches a section. The book is very interesting, it will open your eyes. You must write journals on all the assigned readings. Tough grader, but incredible guy! Most people get a B.

If you want to become a good writer, take his class. He is a hard grader, but grow up, this is college. If you ask him to look at your paper before the turn in date HE WILL HELP YOU and give you an AMAZING critique. He is one of the most caring profs on campus and is still a mentor to me.

If you wanna learn how to write, take him. If you are not up for a challenge, dont take him. He will push your boundaries farther than any English professor. At the end of his class, you will not complain anymore about writing anything, cuz you will know how. His grading is not unfair. GO TO HIS OFFICE AND HE WILL MAKE YOU UNDERSTAND THE GRADING!!

I'll be fair. My first college english class. Passionate about the issues he presents. I hope you take him since he is nice and, although corny :), fun when you meet him in his office. You have to keep a journal and fill it up. That is the most work. Its Oct and we hve only taken 1 essay!so...GOOD!

Nice guy, but tough grader. It's hard to get an A on an essay with this guy. If you want an easy class, don't take. If you want a challenge, take this. He is a cool guy though.

Had him for an honors class. He wants his students to put in effort and is willing to meet with them if they have questions or concerns. He is a tough grader b/c he wants to see his students question and learn from where they have had trouble. Great person to talk to if you like reading. I had him for an Honors class and he simply expects college work from his students. Keeping up with the reading is important. He is always willing to help and only wants students to do their best. It is because he wants you to learn and be a good writer that he does not grade easily and really points out the areas you should work on. Truly great.

I learned a lot from his class; however if you don't show initiative or interest he won't push you... we're adults people you have to WANT to learn if you're going to college. He's an excellent professor, but he's not going to baby you. You need to do your work, you need to pay attention, you need to get started on time!! He doesn't like you to butcher the English language and it's HIS job to teach you that. Cross those t's dot those i's and use your commas and punctuation correctly.

I took him for my first semester in college and he wasnt so bad.I ened with a C in his class since my writting skills needed improvement.Make sure you do the reading and all the journal entries on time, thats the easiest A you'll get in his class.His class helped me a lot when I got to enc1102 because my writting skills improved.

I got an A. But I dedicated time to most of my essays and I suppose I'm kind of eloquent. If you're not a decent writer, don't expect an A. But in all honesty, I learned a lot about improving my writing in his class, even if he does hand back papers in an untimely manner.

I took him for ENL2012 and I am taking him again. Read the book and deeply analyze the content, don't write a paper for the sake of receiving a grade, and work hard. He is nice, comical, and he enjoys listening to what students think of the content. He takes effort and progress into account for your final grade. If you take him, do not slack off.

Dr. Ser is to the point, he will be blunt with you in his comments when he reurns your essays. He's always late,that might be one of his downfalls. He is a tough grader but if you try, he'll notice the effort. Mostly he grades on progress the ind. student has made. Always late to class and replying emails but he is a busy man!

Every review expressing grief are by students who wanted an easy A. I earned an A in Dr. Ser's class. It's called work ethic. Don't be fooled by the complainers on here. They all just want a good grade handed to them. It's as simple as this: if you want to learn, take Dr. Ser's class. If you're looking for the "easy" A, take another professor.

Dr.Ser is possibly one of the best English professors I have ever had. He's very clear in what he expects of you and what will be happening in his class. He is usually late but he does show up. Be kind and patient with him and he will be the same with you. I personally loved his class and learned a lot.

Great person but just not the perfect professor in the world. You only learn the first week and then he teaches if you ask freely. Be ready to write is all I'm telling you. I took this man for 4 classes. He's taught me so much, and I'm a math major. He's really smart and loves his work. You'll learn a great deal about literature and its history. He gives a lot of work, and his grading is very difficult, but it is all to create a better student. Plus side, he's really nerdy and his jokes are too funny. Take him!

I love professor Ser. He is passionate, hilarious, and wants you to learn, but expects really good written essays that should be longer than 5 pages. With dedication, you can get an A, but he only gives one or two of those each semester. I used to spend at least 4 days writing my essay!!! If you have time to read and write, then take this class.

Dr. Ser was such a cool professor. He's really funny. But his class is really hard. His tests are all written essays and he is tough when it comes to grading them. His final is also a written essay. During the whole semester all we did was read science fiction, poems, and a play. There is also a research paper that is meant to be literary based.

I have always been good at English, not an author by any means but it has always been my best subject. I heard he was a tough grader, but I never got anything less than a B on assignments. Quizzes on Launchpad arent graded, so dont stress it. You wont know your overall grade for a while. Journals dont get any feedback but essays do.

Going into this semester I felt very afraid that I would not do good in this class. Though this was probably one of the hardest class I have taken in my years at MDC, this class has been the most helpful. Prof. Ser has a heart of gold. He will talk to you forever about the novels you read in class and is overall a nice professor. HOWEVER, he does take a bit to grade papers so don't expect an overnight grade. Along with papers, Ser assigns journals which act as reflections based on the article or novel you read. Professor Ser is clearly passionate about his work and has a contagious enthusiasm for literature and current events. Virtual teaching does not seem to be his strong suit but if you keep your ears peeled in class he gives out tons of useful information on assignments. Very tough grader and only grades at the end of the semester but a good choice.

He was honestly okay to me I had no problems at all with him. He only grades your essay which is like 4-5 essays with 3-5 paragraphs. No midterm just show up and pass. H was also very caring and nice I had covid and he was making sure I was okay the entire time when I was feeling down.
