powerpoint junkie, boring lecture but fairly easy exams and nice person
love her power point notes. lectures are very fast, but if able to get her one on one during office hours, very, very helpful. class requires approx 20 hours/wk out of class to be successful
No Comments
She is a nice teacher! If you are international students, don't hesitate to ask her, she will help you.
She is very nice person. Her lecture is very fast, but you can see her web-site. Also, if you visit her office to ask some question, she explain a lot.

i am in defense for Dr. Willard. she is a great chem. teacher. please go and take her class. very clear. she can sniff a derelict a mile away. show her you're giving it all you can. remember, this is a five unit class. work hard! got a high B, (142=A)
HER CLASS IS EASY TO UNDERSTAND, THE TESTS ARE A KILLER! AND HER LABS ARE THE ONLY REAL PART THAT NO ONE GETS. OTHER THAN THAT SHE IS A GOOD TEACHER.
Carry is the best teacher I have ever had. I enjoyed the class very much. She makes it very easy and understandable. I know chemistry is hard but with her it is a peice of cake. the lab is a little hard to understand. But, I loved the class.
Dr. Willard is a great chemistry teacher. While she does not "give" you the answers at all, she is helpful. Her exams are challenging, but fair. I especially liked her presentation on "electron greed!"
this class is very hard because of all the lab write ups, she is challenging but fair, great teacher
useless, have fun teaching yourself chem. If you already know this intro stuff it should be fairly easy, if you dont SOL
She goes over somethings and explains them well, and breezes through other topics. You pretty much have to teach yourself. She's OK but I suggest you find better. Oh, she also seem annoyed when you ask her for help
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! If you can get another teacher, take another teacher.
I no many students who took her, complained, took another chem tchr and wished they had stayd with her.most ppl(reviews below)do not understand the difficulty of chem and amount of work requird to understand it.great tchr, hard class, but shes willing to help
Cary is a great teacher. She expects a lot from her students, but she is always available for help. Tests and lab were rough, but this is a rough class. Work hard and she will give you the benefit of the doubt. The best Chemistry Teacher I've had so far.
She teaches clearly, but very quickly! She's not that easy to approach for help because of her serious personality. Her quiz and tests are hard because she grades disproportionately and harshly.Lab reports aren't hard if you work in groups in the comp lab
Horrible teacher! Won't give partial credit on tests even if you know how to do 98% of the problem. She's rude if you try to ask her for help or even for a simple question about the class. Good on giving instructions for lab, but not for the hwk or tests!
do yourself a favor and find another teacher, she doesn't care about her students doing well, and wants chem to be your top priority over family, work, and other classes. class average on the 1st exam was a D-
AHHH!!!!!!!!! BAD BAD BAD TEACHER!!!!!!! MEAN!!!!!!! UNFAIR!!!!!!! DON'T TAKE HER CLASS!!!!! GO TO CUYAMACA IF YOU HAVE TO!!!!! IT'LL BE WORTH IT!!!!!! AHHHH!!!!!!!!
very difficult teacher to talk to, tests are hard and unwilling to help, her big bug eyes scare me, no matter how much you study you won't pass the tests because she makes them impossible to see if you've studied at all
She is mean to us to keep the class standard high. The subject is extremely difficult so anyone who don't want to spend hours everyday for chemistry should not take the class. Her eyes are very funny must look at!
Dont take her if you want to pass the class! She is the worst teacher in Grossmont. More than half of her class dropped. Class average on our first exam was D.
You must understand, this class is very hard no matter who you take it from!!!! If you want an easier class go to Cuyamaca. For the education you receive here, though its worth it if you're going on in chemistry. Great teacher but you have to work very hard!!
If you work full time and plan on taking other classes, get ready for a whoopin! Lots of tough material that she breezes through. If you need help, you better know how to explain quickly, she has very little patience. Labs consume hours as due the insame amount of WebCT. Tough grader on tests/labs!
One of the best chem teachers in gross/cuyamaca.All who complain are lousy students. She posts all old exams, old quizes, notes, and reviews on the web,so if you work at it,you can get an A on any exam because they are all available to you before hand.Semi-difficult class, but overall great teacher.
50 seats were filled when class started. At the end of the semester, there were only 16 of us left. 34 people dropped; that's the size of a whole class. That should tell you something.
She is insane. She knows too much. She expects her students a lot. Tough class. Lazy students should go to cuyamaca college the place idiots go.
Chem is a hard class,Willard makes it easy to learn. If you do the work, which most ppl dont understand is a very large amount just because of the nature of chemistry, then you can get an A or B.The class isnt easy, but I paid attntion in class, did all hw,and old tests, and got an A in both 120and 141.

Hard class, great teacher. One of the best chemistry teachers, if you are interested in learning the material take her. You will work for the grade, but nothing unbearable.
it is very good class. i like her a lot. if you are lazy go to Cuyamaca College. if you are engineer major take it here because it is going to help you in your field, so you will not contaminated bad chemical while you are working.
Old exams r available on her website. Do them in advance!!! & check answers. Get help in Chem tutor lab. Attending her lecture really help b/c she does sample questions and show you how to set/solve the problems. The 1st & 2nd test are hard and long so be prepare. Lab write up are easy. I got a B grade .
Overall she is a good teacher. She provide the tools for you to solve the problem. In her lecture, she shows you how to solve the problem or set them up so take good notes. Practice on her old exams (she provide them on her website) & get answers. Just don't fall behind. The lab write-up is easy. WebCT is time a lot of work, but they help. B grade
Satan wears a lab coat! She is structured so that is good but don't ever expect her to be helpful if there is a problem. Only passed the course because I am self motivator. Take the other profs for this class.
slept through every lecture. couldnt keep me interested or awake...not all her fault, but she should make a tired person perk up...and she sure didnt
God.. either you need a miracle to pass this class.. or study like 7 hours a day.. I understand chem is hard.. but this lady takes it beyound
Very difficult class...the exams are confusing and unnecessarily difficult. I put in a huge amount of time and effort and still got a D. If you take this class, you will not have any time to study for your other classes because of the huge workload and amount of studying that is required.
Her exams are a bunch of questions that you didn't study because they are not in the book or her class.. she doesn't ready her students for the exams and there is no other time for your other classes.... more than half the classe dropped before midpoint of semester... take other professors... save your self before its to late... save your money
nice person but very bad teacher. Is unclear, purposely puts hards questions on test to trick students. Please don't take her if you can help it! Almost half of the people dropped and most of the people who stayed had already taken the class. I'm usually an A student, am struggling to get a C in her clas.
Great class and helps bring clarity to a dificult subject. Enjoyed the extra chances to improve the grade.
Aww, stop complaining. This is chemistry for crying out loud! If you want a no brainer class, go take pottery or something. If you can't handle the heat, get out of the fire! Don't complain about Cary, just because most students aren't willing to put in the effort to actually learn something.
She is a nice person, but the exams are hard. She speaks so fast too,,,,yet she will help you a lot if you seriously tell her you need her help. make sure you do the homework.
Great teacher. Many may complain about her, but Chemistry is a hard subject no matter who is teaching it. She posts all old exams and quizzes, and offers a small amount of extra credit. Tough course, but you will walk away with lots of knowledge, and you will be well-prepared for Chem 142.
I studied, I did the homework, I asked for help....I still freakin failed. I'm taking Chemistry for the second time right now, but at SWC and a different professor. She is nice, and she tries to make it all make sense, but when you get the test, it's as if you weren't even in class. The tests are SO hard. I was frustrated all semester.
she teaches you the material well. her tests and quizzes are a pain in the a** if you dont know the material or didnt study.
She was a good teacher and all, but her exams are extremely too hard. I think she loves to see her students suffer with curveballs on the test.
Overall a good teacher, very willing to explain things until you understand. She tends to talk to the class as if we were 5, her quizzes every week are a pain, but is extremely fair, and you leave the class with a good understanding of chem.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. Her teaching skill was too suck. She even discriminate with other ethic group. Moreover, she didn't use the text book. you need to study yourself all of chapter and all of question from internet because her exam will be very difficult and it would not come up from the text book.
Shes a nice teacher but her tests are HARD. If you pass her class then you will know the material inside and out and be more then ready for the next level. She is helpful if you seek her help but passing her class will be a testimony to your skills as a student. Personally, I passionately hate chemistry after taking this class.
There was like 35 students coming into this class in the begining of the semester, there was 14 left in the end, that'll tell you something. Getting an "A" in this class is possible, but be prepare to WORK for it like nothing else. She provides all her previous exams/quizes online and some of the labs online on blackboard, which HELPED a lot...
You need to study a lot, not only in class but also textbook, example test, quiz.. if you need good grade. But I think she has good side, like she adjust the % score to raise your grade. And should do homework in groups so you can get higher score. I did so so and get A.
ok, let's start off by saying that stoichiometry just isn't my thing. cary is a cool person and a good teacher, but her tests tend to be on the hard side and the online exercises are mandatory, which makes life WAY difficult for people like me with limited computer access.
Sge grades very hard, she's not helpful at all. If you want a good grade study a lot, read the book do the problems online, look over past exams and quizzes (which she posts on her website) Don't take her class if Chemistry is not your strong subject!
Professor Willard is a horrible teacher. She is very unapproachable and if you ask her for help she basically tells you to figure it out on your own. I have never got a C in college before until this class. Unless you are a genius at Chemistry then I would not recommend taking her as a teacher.
She is fantastic. Yes she is hard, but she gives you every tool you need. it requires a lot of work but you will know it inside and out. She is always available at her office, and she will put anything down to help you. She is the best chemistry teacher I have ever had, her class is extremely rewarding if the effort is put in.
Gives almost all past quizes & exams w/ keys to study. Online HW is sometimes difficult to work w/ but easy grade if you do it. Quiz 15% Exam 40% Final 10% Lab 25% HW 10%. Grades on a slight curve. Check out ger school website if you need more info. She is nice most of time but can be a little moody. I got an A.
I LOVE this teacher. Her methods of teaching has been perfected by over a decade of experience, if you listen to her, you will learn a LOT. She's funny, and she makes sure you get the material by analogies that are easy to conceptualize. In short, she will turn the subject from something abstract to something very applicable to life. TAKE HER!
She is really hard. Her tests are crazy hard. She will give you sample tests from last year to look at. Do not rely on them too much. Study everything she teaches on her lecture! Don't get me wrong, she is an awesome and very enthusiastic teacher, but this class is just hard. Me and a friend took her twice...oh btw, her 2online homework is the wors
She is the worst professor I have ever had. I am a very good student and have straight A's, but her class is very hard to follow. When she lectures she is all over the place, and assumes you know chemistry and calculus. I have to constantly study all the material in the book because her lectures are no help. My recommendation is DON'T TAKE HER!!!
She is a nice person and will answer your questions, but her tests and quizes are hard. It is time consuming class almost = 12 units just to pass. Good grade is possible, but forget your social life. Overall she is the best to take with chem 141 a lot of materials. Her lectures a bit unclear or she skips some info.
I dont like Willard at all... she teaches well but she likes to trick students on tests and quizzes (shes even told us that)and shes a really tough grader. She gave me a D on a quiz because I didnt answer them "her way" even though I got the answer right... DONT TAKE HER!
Chem is hard but she is made it more interesting. She tried out the facebook for our class and We loved it. It was easy to get ahold of her and classmates to answer questions quickly. She is tricky with the test but She wants you to know the material. She loves Chemistry!
she is not easy but she makes you love the lesson.. very funny and you can't bored of her lectures.. her tests and quizzes are tricky but she wants you to know everything.
This is a HARD class, that requires WORK. Do not fall behind, for you will pay dearly for it. And yes, you've got to know your stuff. By the end of the semester, you will have noticed only half the amount of students remain. Need I say more?
A great professor. Her test are amazingly hard but she teaches very well and will help as much as she can. Very approachable and makes the class fun. Learned A LOT and had a decent time doing it
Grades are made up of hw, quizzes, exams, labs, and final. The course itself is difficult n her exams and quizzes can be tricky, too. Problem sessions help learn the concepts but ask questions! She's helpful during office hrs. Read txt and do hw! It helps
Her class is hard. I recommend you pay attention right away and take good notes, if not you'll fall behind right away. I do not like her teaching style and if you miss a day, you miss out on a lot. she doesn't stop for breaks she just go from one chapter right to the next. a lot of info to attain at once. I really wanted to drop. Do not take
Fast paced and recommend you hit the ground running. professor is very helpful and approachable but it is up to the student to seek help. it is a tough course and although it will require lots of work you would have to try and fail
Her tests and quizzes are basically her old test and quizzes, and she wants you to know that! In the beginning she grades pretty tough but once the semester rolls through she grades very easily and doesn't even check that well for lab errors. Not hard if you already know a bit of chemistry
great teacher. easy to learn material. lab reports are fairly simple.
Yes, chemistry is hard and the amount of work you put in reflects the grade you receive but Willard is by far one of the greatest science professors I've ever had. Her exams are tough and she isn't the easiest grader, but she really wants her students to succeed. She explains the concepts so well & tries to make lecture funny. Highly recommend her!
Cary is a great teacher, and, if you listen, ask questions and study, you will be totally fine. Chemistry is a really interesting, and she can prove it. Don't hesitate to ask questions and also - attend tutoring sessions having ready the sample exam she always provides you with. It helps a lot. Goof luck, and don't be afraid of her class, please.
She explains topics in a very roundabout way, almost as if she doesn't prepare for lecture. The class is very passable, but with much more effort to understand the material on your own than in class. She is approachable and will help with problems, if you ask. The biggest problem is she uses mostly online homework that doesn't give feedback.
Her tests are extremely hard. And she is very unhelpful. When you see her in her office hour, she acts like she does not care and when you ask for help, she tells you to figure it out on ur own. I've never had a professor like her all my college year. Regret taking her
Cary was a great professor and she makes you work hard for your grade. Her exams are exactly the same as the previous years because she use the old tests to make the new ones. she is a hard grader and she will definitely check your math. lectures are a little bit hard to understand because she talks fast, go to her office for help! take her.
Willard is not an easy instructor. She will prepare you very well for the next level because her main goal is to get the students know their chem back and forth more than caring about what grade they get! shes a nice person but you need to work very hard on her class in order to get the grade you desire
Willard is an amazing person, yet a very tough teacher. She expects you to master your 120 skills before taking her class! Shes a tough grader too especially on labs I wouldnt recommend her unless your major is chemistry
Doctor Willard has an amazing personality. She expects a lot from her students. Her grading is very unfair and tough in the beginning of the semester yet gets smoother when the semester rolls. Great teaching skills, yet very unhelpful in labs (during the lab and in the formal reports). Take it w/ someone else if your not naturally smart in chem
GENIUS! she is so passionate about chemistry; if you dont get a certain topic; she would always give you a life-related example that makes you understand. Her tests are tough, but she provides you with many online accessible help that may prepare you. If you are willing to put the time in this class, TAKE HER.
She is goofy and interesting during her lectures. Definitely made me work to get my A. Gave plenty of warming to prepare for all quizzes and tests and provides access to old quizzes and tests that is very similar to the ones she gives in class. Also provides study guides to let you know exactly what will be on the tests. I did not buy the textbook.
Honestly, probably one of the WORST science teachers for me. She made everything so much more confusing and can't teach if her life depended on it. I'm good at the math portion, but the way she teaches it is so confusing. If you want to or need to pass Chem 115 DON'T TAKE! She's terrible and confusing. Grades harder on those who don't understand
Tough. Very tough.
She likes hard working students and your grade will show at the end of the semester *wink *. Her tests are tough, but she has review sessions for you to ask questions. You can skip a few lectures of you and it won't hurt you too much if you're studying the material from her lecture notes, but the lab is nearly mandatory.
Material was tough, but she explained the material perfectly to us. Her old exams are on her website which helps a lot of the exams.
Cary Willard is my favorite professor so far at Grossmont, she really cares about her students, she will tell you consistently to visit her in her office if you have any questions, plus her labs are not hard but she does take a lot of points off for not writing a good report
Whenever i asked her for help she told me to visit her in her office hours, went to her office hours basically told me that she was busy and told me to figure it out on my own. She also gives quizes every week that are super confusing and they have nothing to do with what u studied that week.
Dr. Willard is my favorite professor at Grossmont. Dare I say it, I actually enjoyed CHEM 141. The formal lab reports I wrote were never more than 5 pages (including calculations) and I got an A/B on all of them. Her problem sessions are hard, but she provides the previous years EXAMS and HINT: THEY ARE VERY SIMILAR TO THE EXAMS SHE WILL GIVE YOU.
Dr. Willard is one of the best chemistry professors. She is a great person and a professor. She seems very tough in the beginning then she treats you as her family. She is so hilarious and uses very funny examples to explain. She is so knowledgeable and cares about her students. She takes point off but you will learn a lot. She explains very well.
