Durante means well but her exams are impossible. Or take Physics at Glendale Community College. It's next to impossible to get an A in her class. Many people have flunked her class. Take Forsman on Tuesday and Thursday night; you will thank me.
Physics is a tough subject but Durandet is a great teacher. She is able to make the concepts understandable so the equations and problems are less daunting. I found the tests and grading standards to be quite fair. An A is very possible in this class.
Get this straight - PHY111 is a hard class! Don't even think of doing it at ASU. Durandet is an insanely smart lady, but has trouble conveying concepts. Write as much as possible on tests and quizzes and go see her in office hours, a good grade will follow. She is quite lenient in grading.
Extremely nice person, always friendly and laid back. Tests are hard but she grades the best out of any teacher. Labs are easy and there are weekly quizzes but she'll drop your lowest test and lab grade at end of semester. I've heard forseman is easier but she's not bad!
You will learn more in Durandet than Foresman but you won't get an A. That is the bottom line. It's nice to learn something but the reality is a B or C won't help you get into medical, dental or pharmacy school. If you want to learn something, take Durandet. If you want to get into Grad School, take Foresman. Her exams are impossible and unfair.
I had both Forsman and Durandet. Forsman's easier (but unfortunately you don't really learn anything). Durandet makes you think and work for the knowledge. It pays off for other classes. The main line is that she is very fair and really knows her stuff.
As an older returning student, having had many professors in my day, Durandet is one of the best. She expects you to learn, you have to work for it. The exams are challenging, make you think, and if you do the homework, you are OK. An A is very obtainable. She is very lenient and fair in her grading. Very approachable and friendly.
Not an easy A if that's what you're looking for. Knowledge of calc would help, but not necessary. No homework collected, but I'd recommend you do it on your own time if you want to succeed. Tests are difficult, but LOTS of partial credit is awarded. If you have a clue, you can work the problems out. Labs are ok, reports are long and time consuming!
Yeah, not an easy A, but this is not high school. All those partial credit points are awesome. How can you fail? Took the class at ASU and failed. Much better at PVCC. Go to her extra review sessions, you'll do well on exams, she's there to help you learn. How many profs hold extra sessions for their students? Videos are OK for 3D concepts.
Casey is an awesome physics teacher. She knows a lot! Very approchable, funny at times. Subject is hard, her tests seem hard but she grades VERY, VERY exceptionally. I've talked to other students who took physics by another teacher and they say its really hard. DEFINETLY take her for PHYSICS! If you think there's someone better, you're wrong!!!
Casey is the best Phys professor I have had. She is always will to help. Her tests are the hard part of the class, but she will give you lots of partial credit. The homework help and she has the soluions to the homework in the library. This class will seem help only because it is the building block of everything else. I recommend her for PHY.
Medical school adcoms are not going to be understanding if you tell them you got a B/C but learned a lot. Do not take her if you are pre-med. Durandet is overkill and impractical in her approach. You need to know a few concepts and know them well. Her test questions don't remotely resemble MCAT questions.
PHY is a HARD subject, no matter who teaches. Durandet is great. LISTEN to what she says to find out what will be on tests. Overkill? - she's a physicist. Not all of us are going to be rocket scientists. Put forth the effort, and you can get an A. It takes work tho! Tests do follow homework problems, lots of partial credit, and good MCAT prep.
considering the subject, easy teacher. cares about the students. very fair. tests challenging, but by no means gonna kill you. go to her extra review sessions, and pay attention to her test review sheets and you will do fine. durandet is pretty good. one teacher who goes out of her way for the students.
Hey u MCAT-obsessed folks, it's not ALL about MCAT prep. PHY121 is for engrs, not med students, so wrong class for MCAT prep. Her tests are on the challenging side, but in no way impossible. It boils down to the instructor being fair, and working with/for the students. Very helpful, spends xtra time w you. Not too hard and not too easy. just right.
Of course you can get an A in any class if one works hard but that's beside the point. A good instructor understands her audience and presents the material in a way that will most benefit her students. She fails to do that. Her questions don't remotely resemble MCAT and other stand. exam questions. Horrible MCAT prep. Kaplan got my 36 not Durandet
Don't even think of taking physics at SCC or GCC. Those instructors are terrible! PVCC has the best profs, of which Durandet is one of them. I took Physics twice and finally passed with Durandet. She's good at explaining concepts, and she makes it very understandable. She's great for partial credit, and is always there to help.
Uhh "Engineering Physics" is what engineers are required to take. General physics is for pre-health. Try telling your adcom during an med school interview that your B in your Durandet is really an A in Forsman's class. See if they care! Don't be stupid. Take Forsman, Get your A, Get into Medical School. No one cares who taught your Physics class
When taking classes with this teacher, stay away. Not very helpful and didnt attempt to help students outside of class. Only was I passed was doing it on my own with tutors. Basically, your required to go to class but it is very useless to go. Do anything to take class with another teacher if possible!
If you are Pre-Med, Pre-Pharm, then you should not taking this class. Her lectures don't reflect her exams. She teaches concepts well in lecture but her exams are poorly tricky. I got a 12 on Physicals sciences so I understand physics and I got a B. The people who get A's are those who spend hours w/her in office hours. It's basically cheating.
I actually learned something! It was challenging, but those comments below about her being unfair are out there. She made you work, duh, but you learned something. Exams made you think. Had Forsman for 101 before, her for higher course. Yes easy A from him but I didnt learn much. overall she's good and fair.
I thought she was really good. She went out of her way to help. She held extra review sessions. Yea, exams were hard, but they did reflect the lectures and problems. Very nice and approachable. Ths helped me for the MCAT.
I took this at GCC (and dropped it). Don't take at GCC! Took it with Durandet. Much easier. Where do you all think she's hard?? Wait till you get to ASU. Its gonna bite. she loves physics, tries to get that across, and whats amazing is how nice and approachable she is. lots of profs here are snooty. A fair and good prof.
Wow, all these rankings in one day. She's OK, better than average. It could be much worse since they're out there. I liked the class, and it did help me prepare for MCAT since this seems to be a hot topic. She gives you links to help for review. One nice thing was her extra review sessions, which helped, as others noted.
She made a difficult subject easy to understand. Gave a lot of partial credit on tests. I recommend her.
One of the better ones at the college. Takes time to help the students.
You don't learn anything because she provides easy examples in class and then shocks you on the exam with questions that doesn't remotely resemble what she taught in class. She should be teaching basic concepts well. Instead she focuses too much on petty details. This is why she is horrible for preparing one for the MCAT.
She is very passionate about Physics. Her tests are hard, but she does give a lot of partial credit. Tests consist of 6 problems, 1 of which you get to cross out. The weekly quizes are a bit tough. Be comfortable doing all assigned homework problems and problems on study sheet before the exam and you should do well. Know your concepts for the final
I dreaded taking Physics, but I took 111 and 112 with her and I thought she was great. I didn't spend one second in her office or with tutors and got an A in both sections. Do the homework, ask questions, go to the review sessions she offers, go to ALL the classes and you'll be fine.
I agree with the previous 2 comments with the addition that she was VERY helpful for the MCAT. Took 111 at ASU and bombed that part of MCAT. Took 112 with her and aced that part of MCAT. Better to go with those who love their subjects than the boring ones.
she's one of the greatest physic I've seen in PVCC. she knows the stuff well, so no matter what level of math and physic u are she is going to fullfil your interest. she is one the best physic teachers.
For PHY 111 and 112,do not pay attention to the review sheets except for the one with the cumulative portion of the final. Sometimes she'll test you on formulas she left off the review sheet. The modern physics half of the final was tough and not based at all on the review sheet. She did curve it which is good because everyone would have failed.
Took 111 and taking 112 currently. She is a good teacher overall, but there were times i wanted to strangle her. She forces you to struggle on your own with the homework but will help if asked. the homework is frustrating because it's taught one way in class and the answers are worked in a different way sometimes. do the homework and you'll be o
To be honest i went into her class not having any clue as to what Physics even was, and being probibly the only high school student in the class i thought of "oh no there is no way i will survive", but that all changed, she is an amazing teacher and really changes ones viewpoint of life!-obviously everyones point of view is different-
More than fair when it came to grades and extra credit. Made the course very interesting and fun especially with her demos, which helped clarify concepts presented. She definitely knows and loves physics and it shows when she teaches which really helped me get through the course. Take her if you want someone who is fair and does not play favorites.
Physics can either extremely difficult or extremely easy, no in between. For me, it was extremely difficult. But she is a fair grader. Even if you don't get the right answer but your work shows that you obviously understand the material, you can most certainly get by. Do the problems she assigns and you're good to go.
The first week of class I literally wanted to cry it was rough, but it only got better from there. As long as you show up and work on the hw, though hw is never turned in, you will do well on the tests. She is definitely a fair grader. Does not curve test but I always did pretty well. She has great energy and loves what she does! I would recommend!
She is amazing, forget grades, time, and even money. She makes physics super fun and has really high energy which helps keep the class alive! I totally loved her!
Physics is just hard period, but Dr Durandet is probably the best teacher anyone can ask for. She is filled with energy and enthusiasm that is infectious. She is absolutely fair so all you have to do is show up and do your homework, you will be successful.
Took a hybrid class that had only 8 days of face-to-face with the professor. Lot's of homework but she allows you to use notes during the tests. It's an easy A if you're willing to put in the effort. Lots of reading.
She's very funny and a good person. Everyone seems to react different to her teaching approach.
WEIRD person! I've never met a professor that when I went to her office hours (she wasn't hardly ever there!) to ask for clarification, she told me she was busy over & over again! I often challenged her on her explanations on class examples because they DID NOT make any sense. I passed because I read the book & did good in labs, she just spews.
If you are scared of physics and want to learn and pass with a good grade , then ALWAYS TAKE CASEY ! She is the absolute BEST! And she is really cool . One of my favorite professors of all time . She is GREAT!
Good prof. Hybrid course had alot of helpful online material. She was helpful outside of class during office hours. Funny personality and made class fun. Lots of work, but an easy A if u put forth the effort.
So far I like this class. Dr. Durandet makes a hard unlikable subject tolerable. Her enthusiasm for physics is off scale. She wants us to learn and i like how she gets students involved in class demonstrations. That helps me learn. Grading is very fair so far. Gives alot of partial credit on tests. Be prepared for her extremely fast paced talking.
I did not care for physics, but this instructor was passionate about it and cared about her students. Dr. Durandet had a good sense of humor. Very good at explaining difficult concepts. I am a single parent, and she worked with me to make up missed work either during office hours or by appointment. Very fair grader. I recommend her.
Dr. D was AWESOME. No one is more enthused about physics than she is. She made learning physics fun and was so encouraging. Tests were moderately difficult but she was always a fair grader. I would recommend her to anyone!
She is awesome. Fastest grader ever, posts grades within a few hours of taking the tests. Fast with email responses and pretty lenient.
Dr. Durandet is the best professor at PVCC hands down. She has the most excitable, enthusiastic attitude towards physics and can interest even the most uninterested physics student with her amazing personality. She made me laugh every day, and is a very fair grader, making it easy to get good test grades. I can't wait to take her again for PHY112.
This was a hybrid class half online and half in person, She was an amazing teacher. I took this class once before at Glendale Community College and the teacher was going to fail me. All you have to do is put an effort into this class and you will pass with an A! it doesn't get anymore straight-forward than this
This summer 5 week course was intense. Retook the course to improve my grade from GCC. Half the class got A. That says it all. Very fair, smart, fast-paced. Allowed us to use note cards on tests, gave us formula sheet on tests, understood the crammed pace from regular semester to summer semester from a students perspective. Highly recommend.
I wish all teachers/instructors taught like Dr. Durandet. She cares about her student's success and you can see just how much she loves Physics. She teaches concepts more than numbers and grades very fairly. Very hands-on and made Physics exciting and interesting.
If you need to take a physics class, you should take it with Casey Durandet. she is very funny and helpful. Show up and do the hw and you will pass :) Good Luck !
The tests are hard!
Just finished this hybrid class. Learned alot, but lots of work. She was helpful, there for us, encouraged us, challenged us with challenging labs and tests, but in the end, I have to admit I actually learned something. She was very fair in all aspects of the course. Because she was organized, this hybrid course was possible, but read alot.
I've taken Dr. Durandet for both PHY111 and PHY112, and after just finishing PHY112, I can honestly say that she's the best in her field. She has extreme passion for what she does, and she explains everything so logically that it makes a normally tough subject into something doable. She's always there to help, and is an awesome person to know.
Dr. Durandet is an amazing professor. She brings a lot of energy to the class and gets everyone involved. She also has a very funny sense of humor, which definitely makes it easier to choke down a 4 hour lecturelab combo. Do the review problems that she assigns and you will do well on the tests, and you will also learn physics too! Yeah! WOOO!
Physics is not my fav but she's really great. She cares that we learn the concepts and makes sure everyone is clear before moving on. Never had a prof like that. She gets me to like the class because of her energy, passion, and enthusiasm for phy. I recommend and look forward to next semester with her. She gives equations for tests. Love the labs!
Finished PHY111 and PHY112 with her and can say Dr. Durandet is the smartest prof hands-down! Hybrid class was intense but she went out of her way to help us succeed. Brilliant, great real life applications, passion for the subject is contagious. Lots of great hand-outs and equations on tests. Fastest grader ever. You can't fail!! Highly recommend.
I took her PHY101 Hybrid course, which required a lot of reading on my part but the material and videos are actually very interesting. You can tell she loves what she does which inspired me to want to take more physics courses in the future. She really wants her students to succeed- I was intimidated at first but she is a VERY fair grader. Easy A!
When one thinks of physics, many may agree that the subject is intimidating and obviously, hard. Durandet made this seemingly impossible course, possible. She makes the concepts of all topics understandable for any individual to understand, no matter what your background is. Every single person in my class passed with a B or better. EASY GRADER!
She was so helpful! She makes sure that you understand the concepts behind what you're doing so that you can basically logic your way through any problem. Everyone is afraid of physics because of the math but she'll show you that physics is so much different than math. She's amazing!
5 week class. Had a sub for this class for a few days, and it put things in perspective. She is phenomenal. Gifted teacher! Super-smart, but boils it down to our level and really cares. Love her class demos, gets students involved. Can't fail this class, she won't let you. Works with you. Met us for extra session outside of normal class time.
Took her for a 5 week summer course. She's amazing. She condenses the information so it is easy to follow and learn. She's interactive and very nice. Wants her students to do well. Take her! Physic's isn't easy but she manages to make everyone understand.
Took her for PHY111. I wish Dr. D were teaching PHY112 summer 2 session but I had to take another prof at another Maricopa college. After one week, miss PHY111 and how she taught the course. She really cares about your success and made the learning fun. Not so with the other instructor for PHY112. Take her. She is the best for physics!
Had this professor for a 5-week summer course and she is amazing! I highly recommend her especially if you are intimidated by physics. Usually I fall asleep in class easily but she makes her lectures very engaging. I always felt like I gained so much understanding from each one. Go to every lecture and focus on the homework and you should be fine!
Great online class. Lotsa reading but its online so expected. Her grading was very clear and fair She was always accessible online. Very quick in her responses, which I appreciated for an online class. The pace seemed fast and a lot to do but it was an 8 week class. Probably better for regular semester. I recommend her for anyone taking online.
Dr. Durandet is the best! I had here for a 5 week course and we learned so much without feeling overwhelmed. After taking PHY112 at another school I would say her methods and demonstrations are the best! Just participate and study the lectures and you will do fine.
Took the 5 week course, and Dr. Durandet is the best physics prof you will ever encounter. She explains everything so well and concise that is will be understood and not be overwhelming. The exams are very straight forward and easy if you do the practice problems and pay attention in class. Highly Recommend Her!
LAB is easy to get an A in! Lectures are VERY important! DO NOT MISS CLASS YOU WILL REGRET IT!! HW is not mandatory, but the more you do the better you will do on the tests. Tests are your main means of grade however you will have a group project at the end of the semester make it simple and to the point and you will get the full points! GOOD LUCK
I took many online classes before and want to add that it felt like there was a real human out there responding to us and cared. Really worked with me when I had questions and was very fast in responding, which is very important for online. Great online course layout and labs. I can't wait to take her face-to-face PHY111 class. Highly recommend.
Professor Durandet is one of the most amazing people I've ever met! She is very caring and responds to emails ASAP. Physics is a difficult subject but she makes it easier to understand. She loves doing group work and encourages students to ask questions. Her tests are fair, as long as you take good notes, do the homework you'll be fine!
Had this professor for PHY111 and PHY112. Made a difficult subject very EASY to understand. As others said DO NOT skip class. She boils it down to what you need to know in a very easy and understandable way. Loved how she used real-life examples and got students involved. Don't be shy, you will learn more by participating. She's cool! Thumbs up.
Professor Durandet truly makes physics, which I originally thought was a dull subject, very interesting!! Don't miss lecture! During lecture she explains everything step by step in an easy to understand kind of way. She makes this subject less terrifying! Tests are fair and lab is super easy to get an A in. Homework not required but will help.
Dr. Durandet is one of my favorite professors I have ever taken. The material is hard, but she makes it easy to understand and is very clear-cut on what she expects. She is a very fair grader. Love the real life examples and demonstrations that are abundant in every lecture. WIsh i could take her for PHY112. Highly recommend!
Dr. Durandet was very caring and helpful. Physics can be a very hard class especially online but she was always there to help. She made physics easier and more fun. She was very clear on what she expected from us and the class was very well organized. Everything we needed to know was there and she was always available to respond quickly.
Oh my God! She is the best professor ever! That is all Im going to say. B E S T P R O F E S S O R !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great teacher. Clear grading criteria. I've never taken Physics before, but this online class was great. 5 homework problems, a video summary, and a lab each week. Open note/book/internet mid-term & final. Put in effort & you'll easily pass! Also offered one extra credit opportunity, so I ended up with a 100.3% for a final grade.
Dr. Durandet is the best professor ever. She knows her material inside and out. I actually loved physics because of her. There are a lot of tests (about one every two weeks), but I liked it better because there was less material on the tests. Her tests aren't hard, just do the assigned homework problems and you'll pass.
Took the 5 week summer course, and although it's lecture heavy and fast-paced, Dr. Durandet is by far the best physics prof ever. Physics is not easy to learn; however, her passion for teaching made the class incredibly intriguing. You're bound to pass exams as long as you practice hw problems, attend class, and ask questions during lecture.
Dr. Durandet is the best choice! I was very worried to take Physics, especially online. I had the option to take PHY 101 with Durandet or another professor who didn't have the best rating on this site, I do not regret my decision. She was there to help when I needed it, and made it easy to follow.
5 week class very fast paced but she made the course more than tolerable. Very fair, hard to fail this class. She was very encouraging and worked with us. Cared about our success. Great in class demonstrations and getting students involved. Best way to learn. Knows her stuff in-n-out and summarizes it so well to our level to help us succeed!
Professor Durandet is the best! I hated physics in high school and I was worried that I would struggle with it during college, but the professor makes every topic easy to understand and solves a bunch of examples in each class. Plus, she is pretty funny which makes the class more enjoyable. If you wanna do well on the exam, do the assigned hw!!
Durandet is very fun, excited, and a quick talker. Her class was never boring and gives real life examples. There is a research paper (6-8 pages), 1-2 lab reports, lots of HW that will help for the exam. She is an easy grader and will give you credit even if the answer is wrong! Test is 6 questions, 1 can be crossed out. QUICK GRADER and organized!
Take her! She is very helpful whenever you have questions and responds immediately. Was nervous to take Physics online but she definitely makes it possible for you to achieve the grade you want.
Physics beat my butt but Dr. D made it manageable. Her style is very straightforward and to the point. She outlines everything you need to know. Pay attention to all her hints for test review. Don't skip class. She's more than fair and you'll understand when it comes to tests. Quick grader. Answers all questions. Good demos and class participation.
Plenty of work -as expected for a quantitative science class, but the online videos were great! It was easy to watch repeatedly to make sure you understand everything too. Clear grading criteria. I would definitely take this teacher again. I would definitely recommend her to anyone else.
If you like math this course will be your best friend. It is very trigonometry and algebra heavy. If you don't feel comfortable multiplying fractions and usin pie (no not the kind you eat), then you will not like this course, but it's very possible to still succeed. Dr. Durandent is a fair grader and really cares for her students!
Dr. D is an amazing professor. She always has test scores in 2 hours after the class is done. She is very approachable and willing to help one on one if needed. The tests are hard but she gives a lot of partial credit. I'm sorry but this is college, just because the class is hard that isn't the teachers fault. She is a great professor. I recommend
She is one of the worst teachers Ive had. Would show up late to class constantly and lose class time. (Up to 1 HOUR late once) Whines about working out probs on the board. Really unapproachable, has called out students in front of the class. Refuses to go over past exam qs for longer than 5 mins. Gives no constructive feedback. Take w someone else
The structure of the class requires you learn but allows anyone to pass with A. All exams are open book and have no time limit but are all essay questions so you need to read on the concept a bit to answer. Labs are easy and can take a couple hours each but require little quantitative knowledge to complete just follow along step by step. Good class
Was worried about a PHY112 hybrid class, but this was well worth it. This prof made sure to address all our questions, was very thorough, very fair in grading, very accessible, and was very fun. Great sense of humor, and that helped with the intimidation factor. Physics is hard but she was very fair, easy to succeed in her class. I recommend.
First honors PHY121 class ever offered and she was so passionate about it and held us to high expectations. From the first day to the last she was there for us and challenged us. We all took top spots at that honors poster showcase. Prof. D is one who cares about our success, goes out of her way to help you and holds you to high expectations.
Shes a great teacher. Super funny, sweet and passionate about what she teaches. Also, thank god for her grading system because she is a very generous grader. Im amazed that I even got a B because Im TERRIBLE at physics. But Durandet is awesome! If you take her honors class be prepared for lots of group stuff.
Looking back at PHY 121, I am glad that I took it with Dr. Durandet. The notes that she gave us at the start of each class, along with the study guides, were very helpful in terms of narrowing down what we needed to know for each test. I also liked how she was not super strict when it came to grading; as long as we got the idea, we got the points.
The alpha professor. Cares a lot about her students. Values true understanding over rote memorization. Lenient grading, IF you show that you have a good understanding of the material. No babysitting; assigned homework is not graded, so it's up to you to prepare yourself for exams. Available for questions, generally responds quickly.
Her lectures are amazing. she will show actual physics and its laws in class with interesting examples. exams felt that are harder than examples or homework.
This class was a very easy course for me. Keep in mind, the teacher does expect very specific ways of turning assignments in but you get used to it fast. If you do the work you'll pass with an easy A. The mid-term and final are all open note/internet/open source in general which is UNHEARD OF. Professor Durandet is also very understanding!!
With covid, class is fully online. She is organized and gives more material than what is needed so you are really prepared. She has video lectures and video problem solving sessions. Available for help online. Gives good test reviews. Don't miss those because she gives subtle hints. Lenient and fair grading. Good class and easily doable tests.
This class is all about tests (at least for 121,131). She will push the heck out of you and does give hard tests that make you think a little outside the box. BUT she is super nice when it comes to grading, and all I have to say is that if you show her that you want an "A" you WILL get an "A"
If you need this course as a pre-req or science requirement, TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU WANT AN A! I am what you would consider a 6th grader in math and science and I passed this class EASILY with an A. Tests are open note AND INTERNET! All you have to do are watch a video and write a summary. Then you take a midterm and final, again OPEN INTERNET!
Took this class online. Be prepared to WORK. This is a 100 level course but she treats it as a 200 level. There is 6 lab reports (10 pages each), 6 exams, and 1 group project. That is all your grade is made up of. There is lots of homework but all of it is optional. She is quick to respond but is not exactly caring when doing so. Good luck!
This was as a challenging class I took online but she was on the students side. She understood the COVID situation for all and was flexible. She was VERY lenient in her grading and she was available daily for office hours. I had her over a year ago for in-person PHY111 and she is great. I recommend her because you actually do learn something.
Prof tells you what you need to do to pass the class. follow the instructions and you will do great! i was very nervous to take physics and especially physics online but she made it doable. i would recommend to a friend.
I can't believe I ended up with the grade I did. She was MORE than generous, otherwise I would have failed. So much partial credit and really helpful. Professor D like us was not too enthralled with the online/COVID situation and she made it a great learning experience for us anyway. She will work with u. I recommend and last test was easy breezy!
This online class had very little "instruction" going on, just some lecture videos in addition to textbook reading which is only necessary for supplementing the 2 open-Internet/note tests. It's a decent workload if left to last minute, but can be easily spread throughout. EASY grader, passed with 100%. Certainly recommend online format.
Overall, great professor and class. I was not a huge fan of the lectures being entirely of prerecorded videos from the 1970's. I felt the videos made it hard to engage with the class. Lots of reading and videos, but all doable. I earned 100%, VERY easy grader. Cheap textbook. Labs were fairly easy, just time consuming. Easy to communicate with.
I took this class fully online and loved it! Professor Durandet is extremely caring, knowledgeable, and answers emails within mins! This class mainly consists of written summaries on prerecorded lectures and some labs. Additionally, there is a midterm and final with open internet/notes! I only used the book for the final, so it may not be needed.
Dr. Durandet's class was very interactive and dynamic (it is, after all physics). Lectures were informative and backed up with many live examples of concepts. These made the class very interesting and fun while you learn. This is no easy A class, so come prepared to engage yourself and have some fun while you learn.
The best thing about Dr. Durandet is her caring more about you learning and understanding physics than getting things exactly right. Your grade is largely dependent on test scores, but she gives credit for recognizing your mistakes/where you got stuck and explaining how your answer cannot be correct. Physics is tough, but she makes it easier.
Super dope professor! Physics is a hard subject and when you got something wrong she would explain it and take a lil points off or none at all. You do need a textbook and a few supplies. This class consisted off weekly summaries from a watching a vid/vids and a lab mostly each week. As long as you try you will do good! Mid term/final are open book
I really enjoyed this class. Physics is not my strongest subject, but this class was so easy.
She is incredibly lenient grading exams but that is about the only good thing I have to say. I only took her because she had good reviews but I honestly have no idea why. It is a hybrid class that only meets 2 hours a week. Those 2 hours are a waste of time. Fine if you just need the credit but to actually learn physics take something else
This was a hybrid class, so be prepared for online video lectures. She provides alot of online resources and avenues for u to succeed. She alternates between lectures and labs depending on the test days. Lectures in person are good and very helpful for test prep, but be prepared to work in groups. Best way I learned. She cares for your success.
Dr. Durandet is incredibly smart and passionate about physics, she may seem like an oddball at first but she's a great professor and wants her students to understand the concepts. Really forgiving grader, and makes labs enjoyable! If you put the work into this class you should have no problem pulling off an A.
Casey Durandet is quite frankly one of the best professors you could ever hope to have. If I ever have the opportunity to take another class with her, I will in a heartbeat.
Took professor Durandet for both PHY 111 and 112. She is honestly one of the best professors I've ever had. I would recommend anyone to take her class. She is funny and passionate about physics. She really cares about her students. The class is very straightforward. There are labs, exams, group presentation, and a final.
Although this class was fully online she made herself available in person. Quick responses to emails and provided good guidance. I thought it was super cool that she teaches online and does her physics research at a lab. I'm a science nerd so I appreciated her insights. Good lecture videos and in person help. Recommend and she offered extra credit.
I took the lecture and lab fully online and the professor can be tough and very straightforward. The labs must be a certain way or you lose points. Must study for the test but let us have a note page. She grades the test very nice and gives you points for everything. I got rounded from a 78% to 80%. As long as you do your work, you'll be fine.
I had to drop this class due to work schedule change but i'll be taking her again next semester. Laid back, easy to relate to, and she is a very lenient grader. She has certain ways of grading and requiring how work needs to be done but no big deal. She cares about your learning. Don't be afraid to reach out to her for help.
This is seriously the BEST professor I've ever had. She made me fall back in love with the STEM world and realize it's never too late to pursue your passions. She met with me in person outside of class (which is online), & she always answers any questions with full resources and detailed explanations - even if not related to the current material.
She tricks you and does not help her students very much and expects you to already know the content before hand. Not only did I not learn from her but she told her students to just drink liquor if homework and exams were too difficult as I know that is not appropriate in order to succeed in school. she also did not round me to a C as I was 1% away.
I never liked physics but this professor made the class fun and hands on. Her sense of humor was a refreshing change of pace from other boring professors. Material was hard but easily digestible. Grading is lenient and she gives lots of material for us to succeed. She was reasonable and fair but I still did not like physics. Recommend anyway.
Instructor was pretty open minded and has a good heart I feel, material covered is a bit dated and feels like it is chosen due to a personal passion more than anything else. Majority of the class is rather easy, video essays and simple labs, was surprised by the weight of the midterm, a 90% dropped my overall grade almost 5%.
I took phy111 and phy112 with Dr. Durandet. Both classes were great. The ONE major thing about her that stands out from any other professors is she is more than fair in grading. Show work on tests and you will do fine lots of partial credit. Easy to get a good grade but don't slack - it's phy. Easy going and available to help during office hours.
Professor Durandet makes physics fun and engaging. While the material is challenging, her grading is lenient and she provides lots of resources to help students succeed. unstuck study was a lifesaver for studying and practice.
This was an online class, but Dr. D went out of her way to hold inperson review and test sessions. Most helpful! Super easy going, lenient grading on exams, quick responses to questions. She made physics tolerable especially with the tests and grading. Easily accesible and approachable professor.
She has very bad policies and super restricted! I don't understand the 4.4 reviews. You have to record yourself doing a lab for an online course and other restrictions. Not willing to help you at all, and refers you to the old texts. Very exhausted
Had Prof. D for 111 hybrid, 112 online, 121 in person. A great prof. who adapts to the needs of students. She is a very lenient grader and very much a student advocate. When it comes to tests (lots of partial credit), hard to fail. Her grading is the bomb. One of the best I have had. Gave extra inperson reviews for online class, very helpful.
I enjoyed this professors, the exams are very challenging, but you will get alot of partial credit.
Overall this was a good class. She cares about your success. Material was somewhat challenging, do the homework problems as I learned the hard way. Her tests are doable as long as you do the homework problems and I succeeded thanks to her leniency in grading. good prep for future engineering classes.
I had Prof D in person for PHY111 and online for PHY112. Physics is not my thing but she made it fun and is one of the best. Very fast in responding to messages and lenient and works with you to succeed. She really cares but pushes you to do your best.
Wow intense class this summer in 5 weeks. She made it pretty tolerable but get ready for alot of work in this short span. Professor D was very quick to respond to email and quick easy grading. Very lenient for this fast pace class, work load doable with alot of time put in. Recommend.
Her class wasn't easy; I had to put in a lot of extra time outside of class to clearly understand some topics, but she gives partial credit on exams. If it wasn't for the partial credit, I would have dropped this class. If she sees that you're trying, she will work with you. I would recommend her.
Really helpful professor. Her grading criteria was always very lenient. I recommend doing the homework outside of class, as the lecture builds on it. Exams are doable as long as you spend the time understanding the concept. Again, very lenient grader + very quick responsive time!
