This was his first semester teaching this class, and I am trying to keep that in mind. However, he read straight from the powerpoint with no attempt to include the class in discussion. His weekly quizzes were very difficult- even reading the chapters and cases did not help very much. He also did not explain how to work certain problems when needed.
One of the easiest graders I've had. Touches on course material well on the tests while managing to make it very easy. As long as you take notes and read them, you can receive a good grade.
Really chill instructor that builds his class around being as lax as he is... his classes are informative but not stressful, and not long at all. On the first day of class a girl asked if we needed a textbook or anything and he chuckled to himself and said "if you show up to class and stay awake, this class wont be a problem for either of us"
Mr. Potts is kind, cares about students almost as much as he cares about accounting (or "Why Accounting Matters"). Just show up! Theres no reading. 4 easy tests, 2o Q's each. 1 project with VERY lenient grading. If you respect him and try at all, he'll reciprocate it.
some team and individual projects really help your grade.
I hated the group work since my group members never did anything.
Lots of group work (3 projects for 40% of your grade, boring lectures/guest speakers, and two exams. Exams are hard because they cover a lot of chapters. The 1st exam (25%) is over 8 chapters and the 2nd exam (25%) covers 6 chapters. One group presentation but everyone doesn't have to present. He does give out a study guide but it is vague.
Its not his fault, The class is just difficult. He tries to make himself available but there is so little understanding and so many students. GSU kind of sets you up because this class definitely needs some SI. He's nice and helpful but the class is just difficult. Too many concepts and not enough time. If you don't read/attend, you'll fail
To be fair this class does require a lot of work on your own outside of the classroom, however, I dont feel like his lectures help. He purposely gave class activities (which are a participation grade) 3 class classes in a row, so be cautious about missing a class. Its just too much material to cram for so go to the accounting lab for help.
In my opinion passing or skipping this class doesn't matter because of how challenging the material is. The only time coming to class will help you is if there's a class activity other than that going to SI is more helpful. The teacher is ok, he just isn't a great teacher.
A straight forward professor whose lectures aren't complex. The hardest part of the class were the exams but all the other grades are easy A's. This professor is more laid back, less stressful, cracks jokes but can get mad sometimes if you piss him off. He's also huge guy, but good at explaining. Just beware of the tests, all applied concepts.
Professor Potts is a professor who gives very boring lectures. People stopped showing up to class later into the semester because his lectures were not very informative, and pretty much everyone in the class used the textbook in order to learn the material. The course is already difficult and having Potts makes it even more difficult.
Potts is funny and extremely knowledgeable, but you will have to put in a lot of work outside of lectures. Class activities, in-class exercises, and practice material in the textbook are extremely helpful for the exams. Apply formulas as necessary, and come to class for spontaneous class activities (these are for attendance grades).
Professor Potts is knowledgeable and tries to make extremely difficult material understandable to students, but his lectures can be packed with information which occasionally cannot be eloquently explained. It isnt his fault, but I learned the material more effectively by using online resources. The pop quizzes suck.
The class is alright, it gets tough when its not taught properly. In this case, Potts was not a teacher who made the material any easier. I do recommend going to the accounting lab, the class is so large that you cant ask any questions to fully understand the material. Potts was very monotone during the lectures. The class is also very test heavy
Read the text and use Orion if you want to do well on the tests. Potts is there to help you if you don't understand, but you'll be lost if you don't do any reading and practice on your own. The practice questions in Orion are much harder than what's on the exam, so if you master those, you're good to go. This class is hard no matter who teaches it.
12 in-class activities (lowest 2 are dropped). He gives the answers, so the score is either 100 or 0. WileyPlus HW almost weekly, but he uploads hints and WileyPlus has videos that basically give the answer. 3 exams. Key to exams are in the in-class exercises, in-class activities, and formulas. Extra-credit survey. Class isn't hard if you study.
Lectures are extremely boring, homework assignments are difficult, 3 tests for entire course which are very hard and tests are not related to problems on Wiley plus and examples he posts. I had to teach my self all material with a little help from lab. In short, don't take this prof for acct 2102.
Acc 2 is hard where ever you go! No matter what professor , Potts helps you understand the material and has helpful TA's. The class is cool and in my opinion easier than acc 1 but its different for everyone. Id recommended potts due to his communication skills as well as knowledge of the course!
This class is hard no matter the prof but Potts does know what hes talking abt, lectures are boring, doesnt take attendance but there are in class activities once a week or so, hw was online he posts hints to help you with, 3 tests but if you know the material they may not be difficult, I wouldnt have passed w/out the TAs explaining it again
This professor is not a good teacher. I got a fairly good grade in the class because I was already good at accounting. The professor gave us a quiz and almost everyone got a 0 on question 4, over 12 students emailed the professor complaining that the content for question 4 wasn't in any of the previous homework and wasn't in the coursework either
He did not communicate. The quizzes were ridiculous. There was no way to truly prepare for this class.
Took it in Summer, had little interaction with the professor himself because there's no major issues. He record videos and post it on iCollege. Exams and homework are through WileyPlus and it's a much better experience than ACCT2101. Pay attention to the lecture, formula and book, don't cheat. You'll pass the class.
COVID REV. I was warned about his class but it wasn't many other professors to choose from. The setup is just like ACCT 2101, but with this class being online it's kinda different. He told us if your connection breaks during an exam then it's on you because he doesn't believe it should. He holds Webex meetings every week but they're not mandatory.
I'm a straight A student & don't mind hard work, but I'm struggling to hold an A-. Tbf, Potts teaches pretty thoroughly (even if he's not the most interesting), but most of your grade (points system) comes from 3 exams that don't resemble the hw. If you don't understand the relationships between concepts, you're not going to do well.
Lecture videos posted on iCollege weeks in advance, about 10-11 wileyplus homework assignments and 2 midterms and a final. Exams are open book but a bit hard because of the limited time available ( 1 hr 1/2) for 35-40 questions that mostly require calculations. However, anyone could pass this class, but you'll have to work for it.
Worst professor I have ever taken. He did NOT teach a single thing, he had another professor's videos uploaded for us to watch. The only thing he did was a "lecture" online that was POINTLESS!! Wiley plus does all the grading (test/hws), so incredibly lazy.. makes me want to be a professor, gets paid to do nothing.
Casey Potts is by far one of the worst professors at GSU. He focuses everything on the 3 midterms throughout the semester but doesn't bother to teach them. Instead, he makes us read through powerpoints that have nothing to do with the actual test, and then gives around 1.5 hours to do a full accounting test,as he seems to think were CPAs. Pathetic.
There was only 3 tests with not enough time to finish properly. Excellent material provided through powerpoints and lectures.
You can tell he tries but its really just not enough. Hes not very good at teaching but he does understand what he talks about. His lecture videos are really boring and I ended up having to teach myself the material most of the time. This is a challenging class so I wouldnt really recommend him unless youre actually good at accounting
doesnt give bonus points, tests are way harder than the classwork and homework, and doesnt teach well. avoid taking this class and choose and different professor.
extra credit ONLY IF 70% of the class reviews him. NO LOCKDOWN BROWSER. At GSU you don't have a choice but to use the same service (WileyPlus) as every other Acct professor. WileyPlus gives you the assignments and exams with little to no professor influence. The exam and HW is made by ONLY WileyPlus. Have fun and remember you don't have a choice.
Honestly one of the worst professors I've ever taken. Lectures are just practice questions that get posted online and are mandatory. Freebies attendance quizzes are random. Wiley should be easy to do. The problem is the 3 exams. His lecture is nothing like the exams. I recommend using Wiley to practice since exam and wiley questions are similar.
He does not offer extra credit. He has exams on Saturdays from 1-3. He doesnt allow any formula sheets on exam, he expects you to remember everything. He doesnt care about his students enough!
Has online videos for each chapter that are understandable like ACCT 2101, but even with multiple pages of notes I still tanked the WileyPlus exams. When I reached out for help, my questions weren't really answered and my follow-ups were ignored. Don't make the same mistake I did, try another professor out.
Professor Potts is great! Explains everything very well and if you are not sure he will take time to go into detail and help. Would totally recommend
I didnt recommend taking this class unless you just tryna teach yourself. He has pre recorded lectures that you need to watch if you wanna pass the tests even though the class was in person he just does questions in class. The homework and I class activities arent that bad but the tests are tough.
honestly dont think i learned anything in this class. there are in class participation activities that count as a grade and he does them randomly. the class is very test heavy like acct 2101 and exams are on saturday. he does curve exams though. i ended up with an a- with the curve. i wouldnt want to take him again but i mean it wasnt terrible
DO NOT TAKE THIS ONLINE. Terrible teacher He sounds very condescending when lecturing and gets mad if we don't know the answer His lectures aren't helpful at all so I end up having to teach myself everything Tests were so hard and he gave us no time to even go back and check our answers so you can't cheat if you wanted to Take it in person Trust me
He is an uncompassionate and unaccommodating teacher. He uses graded in class activities as a way to force students to pay attention to his god awful, drawn out and boring classes. He doesn't follow the syllabus, and is a liar. Don't take his class.
Worst professor for accounting. Does not properly lecture. Gives only the hw as your best form of studying and his PowerPoints are terrible. They are practically a copy of the book and not necessary for the exam. Expects you to watch his videos which are the same thing as his lectures(PowerPoints) and reads them to u in class. All he does.
This is probably the HARDEST class I have ever taken. You are expected to do well on everything since there are very few assignments. He expects you to just know how to do the work without actually teaching and is also extremely boring, If there is another professor available, please take their course instead. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HIM!
The test are on Saturdays, which I hated. Test are very specific so you have to study. Not the type of class you can just wing it and pass.
usually a straight A student but he didn't teach, tests were hard, lectures were meaningless, hardest business course at gsu, take literally anyone else
It's hard to understand problems because he doesn't go into detail a lot of the time. Students will ask questions in class, and he'll ask the class to answer rather than answering the question himself. He talks a lot about how to prep for the class and how to succeed in the class, but not enough time on the material. The videos weren't helpful.
Good luck lol. This was one of the worst professors I had and I've been at Georgia State for 3 years.
Easy WileyPlus assignments and lectures were fun. Even though I was never really focused in f2f classes, online recordings of the class materials were available, which came in handy for midterms and finals. WileyPlus practice questions and reviews helped a lot when it came to exams.
literally so rude, entitled, and uptight. take a chill pill fr, it is never that serious
has an attitude problem. not lenient at all, doesn't care about the success of his students
Absolutely terrible lectures. He doesn't go over any material, just plays review games that cover the most basic parts of the material. His exams are too difficult compared to the material he covers. Doesn't do much and doesn't really put in any effort to teach. won't be any easier than taking it in person. Take a different, in-person lecturer.
Mr. Potts is not good at explaining material in depth. His lectures in person and online are always so broad and not helpful at all. He just reads off the PowerPoint and never explains it thoroughly.
professor potts does the same kind of work if you had professor clark online for accounting 1, meaning the weekly online class, weekly wileyplus homework, & the 3 tests + final exam on wileyplus. being said that, unless you are GOOD AT ACCOUNTING & KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING, you will pass. there was not many grades at all. tests are hard & timed.
I would never take Casey Potts again! Tests are on a Saturday, which was crazy... You have to remember every single formula for each chapter which is horrible! He did not have any sympathy for anything when I emailed him about different problems with the class. Choose a different professor!
Only 2 exams and 1 final that is cumulative. This class is so hard but if you do well on the weekly Wiley plus homework assignments, it is possible to pass this class. Lectures did nothing, the practice problems are what helped. Also, the study guide and practice problems that he posts are the exact same ones from the exam, USE THEM bc they help!!
Professor had a tendency to set tests that were unreasonably challenging, making it nearly impossible to pass. The level of difficulty seemed disproportionate to the content covered in class, leaving students feeling overwhelmed and unprepared. I would strongly caution students against enrolling in courses taught by this professor
Honestly, one of the worst professors I have had. Lectures just confused students and he would not answer any of my questions clearly. The exams were hard but not unreasonable, you can pass if you study extensively. Also, he was very unwilling to accommodate me in terms of testing and scheduling after letting him know I had a personal emergency.
Avoid and get a grant to take an accounting class through another GA State campus. Exams are on Saturdays which is actually crazier the the course itself. Accounting is hard but getting a professor who just wants to go through the motions and not really teach is brutal. Avoid this professor and accounting as a whole on ATL campus.
I liked professor Potts, I think he comes a cross a little prickly but he actually enjoys interacting with students. I think it's harder to take him as an online professor because of the communication barrier. He's knowledgable about the subject and answers questions well. You do have to teach yourself some of the content. Honestly not too bad.
his lectures are not helpful. He does not teach in depth. Everything is like go learn at home by yourself. Talks in circles and wants you to get what he saying.
just prepare to do most of the learning on your own
Professor Potts was an average acct professor. Expect his classes to be the full duration of straight lectures, Talks alot and does practice questions every class. His class can get very boring and long-winded so just be prepared.
I don't know why he has such a bad rating. Teaching was good and all you had to do was attend lectures if you were struggling. You're only gonna fail if you don't ask questions and make an effort to learn the material which was HARD btw bc I SUCK at math. So just try your best, if you need help go to class and ask him and he'll explain it to you.
He just blabs on about what working as an accountant is for the first 20 minutes of class. He doesn't usually teach the content, just drones on and then has a bunch of questions for the last 45 minutes of class. His videos on iCollege aren't very helpful either; there's no showing the work or examples- he just talks straight to the camera.
Very bad with technology. Doesn't teach good. He just lectures and goes off on meaningless tangents every topic. If you take this course don't expect to come out of lecture understanding anything. You're better off self-teaching yourself the material online.
Lectures are long, but I don't think there are many better professors for ACCT 2102. It is going to be tough regardless.
He takes off 50 points for late work, but he waits the last minute to put in grades, he waited one day before grades were due to post them. How are you wait one day before grades are due to posted them but take 50 points off for late work. His exams are Saturday, and his final is in person on Saturday which sucks. He doesn't response to emails.
He himself isn't a bad person but his teaching skills do lack a lot. The accounting department doesn't even teach anymore, they just go over Tophat questions for participation. He's not good with technology and often waited the last minute for attendance and participation questions (quite the literal last minute before class ends).
This professor is something else. He is okay, but a horrible professor. The class was divided into the following categories: 1. Pulls up attendance code 2. Goes off-topic about something and teaches for a bit 3. Top Hat for the rest of class Your best bet to excel in this class is to self-study and complete the Adaptive Practice (AP) questions.
Professor Potts' lectures were entertaining and educational. You do a lot of the learning at home and then review further in class. Due dates matter but the workload is not heavy AT ALL. I was able to complete the assignments in less than an hour. Material and exams were congruent. I would definitely take a class with Professor Potts again.
He would point me to the accounting lab instead of answering my pretty simple and straight forward questions. The biggest takeaway I got from his class was when he asked everyone about the cold wind outside and asked us if we "felt alive". I think about that a lot, thank you for that question.
was really nervous about taking this class over maymester, especially with his reviews. lectures were pretty pointless, everything is mostly taught on wileyplus. there are lots of deadlines and four exams total, as long as you stay on top of everything it'll be okay. i actually enjoyed this class, he is kind and cares about his students.
Professor Potts is an amazing professor. He manages the class so that it is easy to learn. He is a passionate teacher and cares about your success in class and for whatever you may face after. He's very funny too. 10/10 class and professor.
This is a best professor i had so far!! Thiss class offer a lot of extra credit
Very engaging and supporting professor! Would 100% take again.
Potts is a chill professor who wants to see your face during the lecture. Having your camera on wasn't necessary, but it was nice to interact when he could see us. Work was simple and if you have questions, he will answer.
AVOID THIS MAN AT ALL COST. worse professor ive had in my entire life . keeps talking about how math is not important but the tests are all math , you get little to no time for the exams . seriously the worse professor ever . if you have no other choice , get ready to teach yourself the material . if you can , take this class elsewhere.
A great guy but not a good professor to handle over 300+ students. Class is only 1 hour long and should be longer for the amount of content and depth it provides. Expect to do the work yourself and learn the material. Use Wiley PLUS!!! It isn't easy, but it can be done. Don't expect help from him as he will send you to the accounting lab.
Potts is the best type of person. After a car break-in incident, Potts, without asking, stayed with me and three others while we waited for the cops. He offered to take us home. He let us stay in his car to keep warm. Once he was sure we'd be able to get home safe, he left after us. He may not be the best professor, but he cares about his students!
Doesn't really teach. Offers so much extra credit that you can fail exams and still pass the class. Also curved the first two exams.
Doesn't really teach. Class is harder and all he talks about is himself.
Alright, I'm not going to beat around the bush, I'm going to keep it a buck 50. On Buddha, this is worst class I've taken at GSU. Terrible experience, migraine inducing. The tests are hard, even with the curves. Trying to get an +A in the class is like asking a fish to climb a tree. LOTS of work. Casey is a nice guy, but doesn't teach.
Professor Potts is not that bad of a professor. Sure he does go off tangents and yaps. He was generous with extra credit this semester. Tests are hard, know to apply the concepts/formulas. Kinda was fighting demons with this course cuz tests were bad and people got 30s-60s. He's understanding and final was easier. He curved tests and final by 20%.
Please take this class seriously. Pay attention in the lectures because he's in charge of making the test. Please look over material before class because his lectures are going through the problems. Wouldn't says he's a bad professor, I would say a lot of work is need to be put in to pass his class.
Ignore the good reviews. Class is a 0/10. Do not take it unless you have to, and if you have to, be prepared. Tests are nothing like the reviews or study guides. Lectures are unimportant, he doesn't teach AT ALL. Casey is a nice guy, horrible class. To anyone reading, AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALL COST IF YOU CAN, take this as your primary warning
Professor Potts is a nice guy but seemed to be overwhelmed at times in the online setting. The accounting department should reconsider how the course is set up, assignments that took hours to complete and really didn't match the tests. Professor Potts tried to change his teaching style towards the middle of the semester and I think it helped.
You have to study A LOT to pass the exam and he does not read your emails, but he gives you enough extra credit to get A in the class. Do your homework on time which is 2 assignments per week and also do the non-graded multiple choices. If you know how to do the multiple choice questions in wiley plus website, you can get A in the test.
Potts may be nice, but he is an awful professor. Gets mad at students for asking normal questions, terrible with tech and LOVES talking about himself. There are classes where he goes through his entire career history with no teaching or learning. Rarely opens the "mandatory" attendance and gets mad at students for asking about it. DO NOT TAKE
If you are thinking of taking this professor, I recommend waiting or taking someone else. You will be teaching yourself all of managerial accounting, which is harder than financial accounting. Especially in the Summer! Listen to your peers and the reviews on here! This professor lacked structure and organization in his course. Complete disservice.
I took him in the fall semester and ill definitely say the tests are hard !!!BUT HE IS VERY LENIENT on curving the test ,i wouldn't say going to the lectures help but definitely going to the TA helps alot mainly because its one on one I swear to yall i thought i wasnt gonna pass this class but i would say u have to take advantage of what he gives!
Potts may be nice, but he is an awful professor. Very strange.
Lectures and office hours are useless. TAs are great. If I had to redo this course again, I would go to the accounting lab like it was an extra class. Take with another professor if you are able to do so. That being said, I failed every exam, maxed out on all the extra credit, and got a B.
He is good, but just not the best lecturer. He gives lots of extra credit opportunity but it really much like a self teaching course. His study guides are easier than the exams.
He's a good guy but definitely study hard. We usually did top hat and it's a different online system called wiley. The tests were in person and my class honestly failed each exam so bad that he had to heavily curve and provide extra credit. As a person he's a good man but the class is hard so study.
Casey Potts seems like a nice guy, but he's one of the worst professors I've had. He often goes on unrelated tangents, struggles with technology—which delays grading—and his assignment deadlines are inconsistent, making it easy to miss work. His lectures are unhelpful, so be prepared to teach yourself everything if you have to take his class.
Professor Potts respectfully should not be a professor. I can count a handful of times he actually taught anything instead of yapping the entire class session about unnecessary/unrelated topics. The only good thing I can say about him as a professor is that he is funny/entertaining. Just take Hollingsworth if she's available.
if youre not religious, pick a religion and pray. the only thing i learnt in caseys lectures were his crazy conspiracy theories and how elon musk and big pharma are trying to screw over the middle class. my mental health is at an all time low and i no longer look both ways while crossing the street.
Respectfully, he should not be a professor. Classes were run terribly, and he even admitted multiple times that he doesn't prepare anything for class. This often leads to unrelated tangents, that have nothing to do with the material in the course. He left early, and I learned more from the sub in one week than I did from Potts the whole semester.
If you want a comedy class, take him. Mostly yaps and little teach. Tests were lockdown+no webcam (our final was supposed to be irl but got changed because he went on leave). You can do fine in this class if you have no other options but just be prepared to learn on your own. Either that or someone has to guide him back on track. Caring guy though
He is really nice but does not teach well. There are 3 tests and lots of McGraw Hill assignments. Extra credit opportunities! Gotta put in the work to achieve the grade you want.
He's not terrible, however don't take him unless you have to. The class is hard, and his teaching makes it harder because he tends to ramble on. We had a sub for our last week and she was the reason my grade got boosted up so much. All the tests are online though if that helps!
He's very nice don't get me wrong but he get's off topic sometimes his teaching is kind of confusing. Lotsssss of McGrawhill assignments and tests were online thankfully but they're locked down.
The class is fine, it's a regular gsu accounting class. but professor potts rambles and goes on tangents a lot, which wasn't really useful at all. there were extra credit, but with the majority of ur grade being 3-4 tests it didn't feel like much help. i would take another prof if possible but if you have to take him you'll be fine.
