Prof Slott is an outstanding professor. He has a background in advertising and a nearly completed PhD. The class follows the syllabus and he is interested in personal growth. Too bad more proffessors arn't like him...would recomend to everyone.

I was in his 1st semister teaching at cod and it was not that bad. I hate speech and i took it with alot of my friends, not a good idea bc they made it harder for me, I would have rather took it w/ strangers. I was in flordia tho and missed alot of class, he worked with me and i still got a B. My friends all got A's, but I missed alot of class and was really happy with my B.

He is extremely nice! A fair grader and he lets u know what he EXACTLY wants out of ur speech. Anyone who gets a D in his class is clearly not doing their work at all. He doesn't take attendance everyday so you don't have to come to class everyday(I personally like it!)

I really enjoyed this class, the teacher made it fun, and understandable. I never felt threatened, and always knew what was expected of me. All that he asks is that you try, so that the class isn't torture for the rest of the students who have to sit through your speech. If you do your best, he will see that.

Doesn't care about how you do ur work cited page and he really doesn't care if u get ur sources from unreliable websites..i didn't do that buh i know someone who did it..and he still ended up gettin an A in class. As long as u follow the speech guideline he gives u the beginnin of d semester..u should be fine

I would definately recommend this teacher for speech. I am not a fan of speeking in front of people but he made it a very relaxing atmosphere in class and is not credical just as long as you try and do your best. It was a manditory speech class for most degrees so i would definatley recommend him.

Casey Slott is a great professor, for those who want to learn that is. He is passionate about what he talks about and will help you with any question you may have. Just follow his simple rules and you will get a good grade and learn how to do a quality speech. I highly recommend this teacher, I will be sure to take his higher level courses.

Casey is the best! If you want to learn, and not review what you did in H.S., take him. I expected to just have to do a few speeches, but he really opens your mind and makes you think! His class fills up fast so grab the op to take him, you wont regret it!

Professor Slott is a laidback guy, who is extremely helpful. His class was actually interesting, not boring like most other speech courses. His midterm is a breeze if you study your notes and a few chapters from the text. I took the honors course, so there was a little more work involved. However, I definitely recommend you take his class!

casey's the BEST professor i've had during my college career. i've taken each course he offers (speech 1100/1140/1150). his expectations are high, but never unreasonable and he's willing to work with anyone who needs help. if considering a career in communications, i HIGHLY suggest doing an internship under him. he's and invaluable asset to COD.

GREAT CLASS!he was very openminded which is important/at the beginning of the year he said he was one of the harder speech teachers i wouldn't agree unless if you are a total slacker.do your work and you'll do fine.i really enjoyed this class.i loved the arguments over different issues raised in class as well.great teacher.great class

Casey is an amazing teacher, his style is interesting and keeps you captivated. If you have any trouble throughout the semester as long as you let him know he is pretty accommodating. On top of being a good teacher he seems like a pretty cool guy, class political discussions are the best. Do the speeches and you'll do fine.

I was constantly fascinated in Casey's class.. (not what I had imagined for an honors speech 1100?) He provokes a lot of worthwhile discussion- much of what I learned was helpful in other classes I've taken. He can seem a little intimidating at first, but you'll find him to be pretty reasonable and chill. Sidenote... it's hard not checking him out.

An outstanding teacher. Really cares for his students and wants them to do well, but will also challenge us to think about how the real world operates. Ended up not needing the class for my degree after changing majors, but liked the class so well, decided to stay. FYI, likes "The Office," sports, and starbucks coffee!

Excellent. You will learn a lot and become a better speaker. He mixes it up, using lectures, movies, group activities, and speech days. No silly worksheets. The homework you get is to prepare your 4 speeches. The speeches are on challenging, interesting topics that make you think, but he is not a hard grader. Won't downgrade you for blanking out.

If you want a cookie-cutter speech class were you can give a speech on how to walk a dog, this isn't your class. Dr. Slott's curriculum was engaging, thought evoking, and well balanced. I would highly recommend his class and look forward to having him again in the fall.

Professor Slott is absolutely the best. Very approachable and wants you to do well, but he will challenge you. So if you plan to slack, you'll be in trouble. He is a no-nonsense type of guy, but not to the point of ignorant at all. Plus he is a fair grader. You'll get an A easily if you show up and put some thought in your speeches.

A bit of an overachiever, but he is a great teacher. Really articulate and puts up an almost snobby appearance, but he is helpful and interesting. Speak up in class and you will be an instant favorite.

If you really tried your best, he would ace your speech. He has a heart of teaching that even you have problems with Eng 1/2, he will help check your essay. Great teacher and interesting lecture. :) TAKE HIS CLASSES!

Slott comes off as very intimidating but he's a GREAT teacher and never makes you feel stupid. I recommend his class 100%. He takes attendance very seriously, so you should go to class. And on speeches, make sure that you are organized. He likes structure. (Intro, 3 bodies, Conclusion). You'll get an A no doubt if you follow that.

He is the best teacher I have had at COD so far! He actually makes speech interesting! He doesn't care about the stuff other speech teachers care about. He would rather see you give a quality speech than stand up there with good posture and eye contact. He's strict on attendance, but its worth coming to his class! Take him you won't regret it!!!

Mr. Slott is a great teacher. I was dreading having to take a speech class with all the usual high school speeches. You actually get to give speeches on interesting ideas and topics. Lots of room to do something you're interested in. More critical thinking type speeches than heavy research based. Awesome teacher, awesome class. One of my favorites.

Awesome teacher. He's passionate about the subject and he's more than willing to help with anything you need. As long as you show up to class and write your speeches on time, you will have no problem! From what I've heard about other speech classes, I'm glad I took his!

Professor Slott is by far one of the best teachers at COD. He should be teaching or hosting venues at other universities with his great amount of knowledge he offers. Professor Slott is the man!! He is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He's VERY helpful and understanding. He is clear on what he wants and as long as you go to class and DO. THE. WORK. you will pass, no problem! You go, professor Slott!! FAVORITE.

If you are worried about public speaking. Take him. Just do it. What he expects and what you are graded is more about the quality of ideas you're trying to convey across rather than judging if you are moving you're arms or not. The only other thing he requires is that you act professional. Be respectful of others, on time, etc. It's an easy A then.

One word, AMAZING! I don't have a fear of public speaking, but others in my class obviously did and he truly helped them. He knows his stuff! His assignments are a breeze and he really cares for his students. The book really isn't necessary and attendance is a must. One of the gems at C.O.D.!

It's college level course but his expectations are not absurd. You earn your grade but highly recommend him. Very helpful and reasonable individual. Engaging and relevant topics kept me interested and felt like I learned and grew a lot in the class, as a student & individual. Show up, do the assignments, follow speech formats and you'll do great.

This class was boring but an easy speech class. It was boring because most of the speeches have to do with politics. You can't pick any topic you want, mainly politics and advertising. There is only one test. You only have to do 3 total speeches which was good! This class does not require extensive time out of class. Instructor was nice!

Awesome teacher. Only 3 speeches and 1 of them is a group speech. Each speech you need research but it's better than talking about yourself. Recommend him over any other teacher.

Mr Slott is such a great teacher. If you have difficulty with speaking in front of a group of people or presenting in general he is the one to take. He will give you great feedback and will help you calm your nerves and help you with your speech. He is very understanding and really wants to help his students develop into professional speakers.

Great Professor. Enjoyed the class so much that i decided to switch my major to communication. You have to do 3 speeches. Even if you feel like you are a bad public speaker you will fell comfortable performing your speeches in his class.

Very easy and laid back. Does great job a presenting the material. Does not make you do a lot of speeches ( only did a total of 3, 1 was a group project). And after speeches, gives you great advice on how to improve for next speech. As long as you stay go to class and do the assignments you will pass.

Overall, I loved professor Slott. I took him over the summer and his class was a piece of cake. Show up to class and do the work you'll pass for sure. He does have a written midterm which was kind of hard and it did hurt my grade a little, but I did well on my speeches and listened to what he had to say and I still passed with an A. Take him!!!!!

If you have speech anxiety, this is your guy. He breaks the class down so you only have to present to a small group, which is awesome. He's very entertaining and he's super clear with expectations and will help if you ask for it. Only reason to not get an A is if you don't trydon't show upsleep in class.

As it is required for every degree, I took Speech knowing that I have severe speaking anxiety. It's been a rough semester (health-wise) for me, but Professor was very understanding, and worked with me. Gives great feedback on speeches, takes time one on one if needed, and truly was an interesting and thought provoking class. Highly recommend him!

I took this class in the Spring and at first i was scared because i'm scared to speak in public, but he made it really easy and i passed the class with a good grade and he's super chill and understanding. Just show up to the class and do your work on time and you'll be fine.

One of the best professors that i have had at COD. His class was both fun and interesting. he is very specific when it comes to his grading criteria so if you read it and follow it to the letter you will come out with an A.

If you get really nervous speaking, definitely take his class. I hate speaking, like that was one of my biggest fears, but he totally understands and doesn't care if you stutter or say um a lot. I was shaky and nervous throughout all my speeches and I still got A's on all of them, so he really only cares for the content. Would definitely recommend.

Mr. Slott is honestly one of the sweetest professors out there. I took this class over the summer to get it over with, and thank god I did. Everything is outlined clearly in the syllabus so you know where your grades coming from. Plus hes always there for you if you need help. 3 speeches, one mid-term (was a take home), and 34 reading questions

Awesome teacher! Made speech really enjoyable. 3 speeches, a mid term, 3 reading questions and a final paper. For the speeches, as long you do your research and show that you know what you're talking about you'll do fine. He also breaks the class into groups so that you don't have 20 sets of eyes on you which is awesome!

Best speech teacher at COD by far! SUPER easy grader, as long as you participate & try your best with your speeches he'll give you an A! Very laid back, only 3 speeches the whole semester. Midterm is somewhat hard but he gives a study guide. Great teacher overall, would honestly recommend to anyone.

Never did I ever expect to have a speech class be my favorite class, Ive never been good at writing or talking in front of people and this class was really fun and super easy to understand. Would take professor Slott for every class if i could! I'm usually a B or C student and got a 97 in the class! Just make sure to study for midterm!!!

He is open to speech topics. He is understanding of students' nerves and makes the environment easier to present in. You do not need to dress up which is nice. Only three speeches are given (one is a group presentation) and one midterm. The class was laid back. Show up to class, make an effort on your speech, and you will get an A.

Mr. Slott is an amazing guy. you need to put an effort in your speeches and you will be fine. midterms are hard but he gives pretty much info about it. gives good feedback after each speech and motivates students. he shows interest in every culture and discusses with students. he makes environment of the classroom so comfortable. he's a hot guy.

I enjoyed every single one of his lessons. The class is fairly easy but you can't skip more than 3 lessons or else it will impact your grade. Professor Slott is very responsive and willing to help and his lectures are interesting. Midterm exam is a bit difficult but he gives you a study guide which helps. I would recommend his class.

Amazing teacher! I loved being in his class. He really dislikes when students don't participate in lectures. Extremely intelligent and inspiring. I learned a lot from this class! Study for your midterm! If you put an effort into your speeches, you will be fine. (not bad to look at either) If you want an easy A, there are plenty others to take.

He never made it clear on how he grades. However I found out a little too late that as long as you don't bring notes with you to the podium, he'll give you an A.

Prof Slott cares about his students. He is VERY clear about grading criteria, if you put some effort in speeches you will end up with good grade. He will help you to get through hard time with public speaking, even if you have an anxiety, like me. Prof Scott is very understanding and he will encourage you to do your best.

Good summer class! Some BB hmwk, 2 speeches, 1 group speech, try to participate! Had us do presentations based on interesting concepts. Makes it comfortable even for shy people. Gives good, honest feedback that'll help you beyond the class. He's real laid back and understanding. If you're scared but also wanna get better at speaking, take Slott!

Dr. Slott is a good teacher. He gives clear criteria of what the speeches should be about, and how to get an A on each one. You can miss up to 2 classes, but after that, points are lost. Even if you miss a speech, you can still make it up. The books weren't necessary for me.

You don't have to be a great public speaker to do well but you do have to try. 75% of your grade is based on the prep you put into your presentations and 25% on the presentation itself. He doesn't take away points for saying "um" or little things like that. He wants you to take control of the situation and lets you start over if you need to.

I took prof Casey in 2012 and I still think of his class when anything from the content comes my way in life. I recently opened an annotated bib sample he provided and I was like, "he deserves to known". I definitely recommend him and the things he will teach are applicable and useful in life. Cease him!

Professor Slott is very clear and concise on what he wants on a speech. They are very easy to achieve. There is no final for this class. 4 speeches in total. An amazing professor who loves what and loves teaching it.

Professor Scott is very intelligent and is a great instructor. He understands that some people may have a difficult time giving speeches in front of a classroom setting. He actively listens and grades very fairly. I highly recommend him. There was no final exam and only 3 speeches for the semester. The last one was a group speech.

Professor Slott is BY FAR the BEST teacher Ive had in college. Hes so dedicated to what he does and hes very laid back and clear on what needs to be done. The class was honestly pretty easy and you learn what you need to! He even went out of his way to help me with assignments for another class and I am SO grateful to him! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I'm not great when it comes to speaking, and Professor Slott really helped me improve. Extremely caring and the course work is the usual. Put the effort in and he'll give you the grade you deserve. He's more focused on your improvement with each speech and definitely gives you good feedback. If you can take him, take him!

I took him during the summer, one of the best classes I have taken. The things he teach in class is really useful in real life. If you follow his guidelines for the projects, an A is a sure. Participation also matters.

If you are afraid of speaking, take this professor. He makes everything easy for you. As long as you complete your speeches and assignments, you are guaranteed to pass even if you do terrible. He understands that speaking isn't everybody's specialty, so he tries to make everyone feel comfortable while also providing good feedback.

Professor Slott is an amazing professor. Hell provide a list of what needs to be done each week and is very manageable. His grading system is amazing and hell provide feedback on what can be improved. He is always available and answers any questions very quickly. He has lots of resources to help you be successful. Clear grading criteria and anyone who turns in speeches and homework on time will receive an A. He helps everyone regardless of their comfort level improve their public speaking abilities. You will learn how to do academic research and improve the way you communicate about issues and problems. Best speech teacher at COD.

Wow! There are so many good things that I can say about Professor Slott, but if I could say one thing it is that he is one of the best professors that I have ever had. He gives very good feedback on every reading and speech. There is only 3 speeches, 2 Annotated Bibliography's and a couple readings. If you do them you will get an easy A. Thank you!

I took Speech1101 in person. It was better than I thought it would be. Professor Slott is very understanding that public speaking is tough. This class is very good because he gives you a 90% just from showing up!! But there are two- three annotated Biographies

Prof Slott has a clear grading system and you'll pass the class as long as you do everything. taking this class online was very nice, you submit videos of yourself doing speeches instead of doing them in front of an audience. the textbook was only $5 and he'll say you need it but I never used it. instructions are clear and Slott is understanding

Prof. Slott provided me with so much motivation, even though I always stutter when giving speeches. He was always giving encouraging feedback because he generally knows that when you participate, do your part as a student, and show competency and eagerness to learn, he will definitely acknowledge your hard work as a student, which I deeply value.

chill guy by far the easiest grader ever will make you feel comfortable taking your speeches there are only 3 speeches in this class you need to do and its only infront of 5-6 people not the whole class very easy grader and helpful

this was a great online class, overall not a lot of busy work. Every lecture he gives you preps you for three speeches. he doesn't care if you're lazy, you must follow his directions. he is a great grader as long as you pay attention to what he wants. Also he is very detailed in what he wants and expects, you just have to look at the material.

I really liked him a lot. He was a very nice and caring teacher and he doesn't throw a bunch of assignments at you all at once, he gives you a good amount of time to do your speeches and bibliographies. He is really good with answering emails and answers your questions right away, he is also very nice about it and doesn't make you feel dumb.

Professor Slott is one of the best professors I have had during my time at COD! Your final grade is based off of 4 speeches, 3 annotated bibliographies, and 4 reading questions, and earning an A is easily doable if you simply do your work on time and follow his very clear assignment requirements. Definitely recommend taking Slott for speech!!!

Prof. Slott makes this class super manageable. Clear grading, minimal busy work, and super helpful feedback. unstuck AI was a game-changer for prepping the speeches. Definitely an easy A if you follow directions.

I have an intense fear of public speaking (others in my class did as well) but he is very understanding and knows that it is hard for most people. I would recommend taking him, you are guaranteed to receive an A as long as you give all your speeches.

such a nice guy. definitely take him if you need a speech credit. he was really understanding about everything and answers emails fast. only thing he is strict about is turning work in on time so just be ready for that. otherwise one of the best professors out there.

This teacher has deadlines but they are clear. Most of his lectures are narrated PowerPoints that help you with your speeches. This was a straight forward class for me. He was also prompt when emailing him with questions.

I LOVEDDDDD takin this class. He was a professer who respected your time as a student and was very understanding. I was so so so nervous to take rhetoric/speech so I avoided it in high school. I couldn't ask for a better college professor to have for this class. Made speaking was and comfortable. TAKE THIS CLASSSSS

Mr. Slott was a really good professor! He talks a lot, but if you really listen to him, you can learn a lot from him. He was also super nice, and a very easy grader despite being an honors class

Professor Slott is amazing! I took this class fully online and it was easy to keep up because he gives plenty of time and resources to succeed. There are 3 speeches, 2 annotated bibliographies, and 4 reading questions. He grades quickly but is strict about deadlines, so email him if issues come up. Textbook required but didn't really use.
