She is a nice lady but only teaches you 30% of what you need to know. She provides good resources (practice exams) but only covers concepts through easy examples in class yet expects you to know the version in a more difficult way. She goes very fast over things that matter and is not thorough with explaining herself. Overall, don't recommend her.
Super nice, not really good at teaching tho. She doesn't cover material thats difficult very good. YOU have to teach yourself most of the class which is not ideal for such a hard class. Your grade is determined basically by 3 exams and there is not much wiggle room. Her biggest fault is her teaching(not strong at all) so don't recommend her.
Professor Callmann is a great woman, but I should not have to teach myself the entire class, especially when learning very challenging topics. Gives very easy examples during lecture and then expects you to fill out problems that are nowhere near what was discussed in class. It's like going from 2+2 to integral calculus without an explanation.
Professor Callmann is super nice but shes a terrible teacher. OChem is such a difficult class and she explains the MOST simple version and circumstance of every concept. She goes over her notes so incredibly fast and makes so many mistakes. You literally have to teach this entire class to yourself. Do not take, youre being set up for failure.
Very disappointed because everyone signed up for Iverson, but sadly he was offered another position. This class is not as challenging, but the test formats are inconsistent, and the professor inserts questions that she has never gone over. I am most likely going to withdraw because I studied too much to get caught off guard by the random questions.
Feel disappointed I ended up in this class. Dr. Callmann is a great human being, but I will not take another class taught by her. She explains things in the most simple way then puts the most difficult problems on tests. Doesn't listen to feedback given to her about exams. The grading on exams is very unclear and tough.
sweet lady but her teaching skills are straight up wack. i understand it's her first year teaching, but it's clear she puts no actual effort into making sure the students understand the material especially since it is an incredibly difficult class itself. you're basically on your own. all her tests/exams/syllabus/notes comes from another professor
Dr. Callmann covers main concepts and basic examples in her lectures. The homework is more challenging and forces you to understand and apply the material rather than copy a solution to a question verbatim. Admittedly, her teaching style and class structure is not for everyone. Generally, expect to dedicate a lot of time to ochem each week.
Professor Callmann is a very nice and approachable person, but as far as her teaching goes, its terrible. Lectures go so incredibly fast and there are little to no examples. If there are examples, they are the easiest questions we are ever going to see. The HW and Tests are nowhere near what she teaches. Studying her notes are not helpful at all.
Im so frustrated to have her as my prof. She is a good person but that doesnt really matter when you have to teach yourself a really hard class. All of the resources she provides are from past/other prof and she only writes with the class notes which are useless because they only have super easy problems. Youtube is better than her lectures/notes.
I was first relieved about no longer having Iverson as a professor because of how sweet she was about teaching. However, that relief was extremely short-lived. She FLIES through the material, expects you to know everything, does not go over examples! She began 'synthesis' 2 days before the exam, left it all blank saying: "o chem challenge for you!"
Dr. Callmann is very sweet but her class is extremely challenging. Then again however it is ochem so its not going to be easy no matter what. Exam 1 was set up very similar to the hwks but Exam II was a lot harder and we were expected to learn things on the exam over the weekend which was unfair. Class has great TAs!
Calmann is sweet, yes, but she makes mistakes often in her lectures that she forgets to correct until a student notices. She gave us new material on a Fri before an exam the following Tue. Instead of going through this material, she left it blank "as a challenge" for us. Her giggly nature doesn't make me smile when my grades are in effect. Over it.
Dr. Callmann is nice and all but she's a terrible teacher. Her lectures are brief and she barely goes over concept. Her tests are 10x more difficult than anything we are actually taught which makes it so that you have to self learn all of the material. I do not recommend her class to ANYONE. You're so much better off with another professor.
shes nice and sweet but makes lots of mistakes. ochem in general sucks and unfortunately there is no way around it if you need the class. sorry, i wish you all luck :(
shes a nice lady
this class is the reason i dropped pre-med and switched out of biochem. dr. callmann is really nice, but the amount of times i have gotten homework and been completely lost, or taken an exam and had to leave problems blank is concerning. i have never studied more for a test in my life then i did for exam 3 and i still failed. save your breathe.
I had to take this class pass/fail. I have put forth so much effort into this class and will still barely pass, if I am lucky. I understand organic chemistry is hard, but this class has caused me an unnecessary amount of stress. They say this is a weed out class and yet do the bare minimum to help those who actually care. L taken.
Dr. Callmann did an amazing job in her first semester of teaching; even though there were mistakes in her answer keys and lectures, she fixed her mistakes and was very understanding. Her lectures were to the point; she made NMR easier to understand than when another prof taught it. She was very kind and her tests were fair and similar to homework.
I had Callmann her first semester and she was amazing. Extremely fair, listened to our concerns, gave opportunities for extra credit, and even excused an entire exam question after we expressed how unfair it was. Everyone saying how terrible she was is just a salty pre-med kid looking for someone to blame. Ochem is hard, but she makes it easier.
Dr Callmann is a great lecturer and clearly cares for her students. Ochem is extremely difficult and requires a lot of work outside of the classroom regardless of the professor. All of these negative reviews are just entitled premeds who have yet to learn how to truly study and blame the professor rather than put in the work.
Had an exam with an MCAT question on it only to make it extra credit afterwards. The material for it was covered in 5 minutes during one lecture and was never presented on any homework. Taught us synthesis the day before exam 2. Sends out keys with errors and sends corrected versions the night before an exam. Heard she had the lowest test avg's.
Ochem is hard, but Dr. Callmann has a lot of resources to ENSURE you pass, you just have to be willing to put in the work. She can't go over the hardest examples in lecture because we simply don't have time, but she has "coffee chats" after every lecture on top of her office hours. She really does care about her students success and it shows.
Do well on the first exam, because it sets the foundation for the course. Use the homework as a guide to prepare for the exams. Overall, Callmann wasn't the best professor because she lacked experience. What she lacked in experience she made up for in enthusiasm and the desire for us to succeed. She will become a better professor in time.
Callmann is sweet & it's clear she knows her stuff! However, having knowledge doesn't entail ability to convey it effectively. She has potential as a prof, just inexperienced. It's rough as ochem is hard in itself, & with a new prof I had to put in 2x the normal effort to learn. Regardless, she isn't bad a bad prof , just new. So give her a chance.
The circumstances of having Dr. Callmann weren't ideal as we expected Iverson. Despite this semester in ochem being rough, she isn't a bad professor & anyone who pins their bad grade SOLELY on her are looking for someone to blame. Ochem is hard & I didn't expect to ace it, however I think I could've done better with a more experienced professor.
Callmann made OChem bearable. She knows her stuff and genuinely wants students to be successful. The exams were fair, and she was very receptive of student concerns/input. You MUST put in a lot of time and effort in order to succeed, as with any other difficult college course. Best way to study is to review the HW and DO PRACTICE PROBLEMS!!!
Dr. Callmann was an amazing professor. She was caring and was really accomodating. However, Ochem is extremely difficult and her being a new professor did not make it any easier. Make sure to take her other all over Ochem professors. She will be the greatest Ochem professor at UT.
Dr. Callmann is a sweet professor that tries very hard to run a great course. Her class is organized, and her TA's are prompt and hold numerous office hours and review sessions. There is a long homework every week but it is necessary to succeed on the exams. No one can expect an easy way through OChem but she made it fun.
She can be disorganized and mess up in lectures, but this is Dr. Callmanns FIRST YEAR TEACHING. She definitely has potential to become the next best ochem prof so give her a chance. She does really cool research and loves chatting with students abt research & life. Ochem is extremely hard to master and teach so ask questions and STUDY. 10/10 imo
Dr. Callmann has the potential to be UT's best Ochem professor. Many people rated her before the semester was over and didn't realize how much progress she would make as the weeks went on. If you put in the time, you can make an A. All the ochem classes are test heavy though, so make sure to spend a lot of time prepping for the first exam.
It was her first semester teaching so she deserves some credit but there were mistakes in everything from lectures to keys.
Dr. Callman's first semester of teaching was rough, however, she showed great strides in her teaching prowess as the semester went on. Most of the quarrels I had with this class were with the department and not Dr. Callman. The class is extremely test-heavy and the profs are limited in what they can do to help out the students other than lecture.
Professor Callman was an overall okay professor. The material is definitely heavy so you should set aside hours to study for exams. The best way to study is through practice problems and homework. I didnt appreciate how many times students had to correct her/ TAs on lectures and homeworks. Study EVERYTHING even if she says it's not on the TEST.
Dr. Callmann is a new professor and she would be a great teacher with more experience and she still was decent at teaching this semester. I will say that she is caring and knows her stuff well, but she does make many mistakes that can cost us points. This a hard class no matter what professor you take, Callmann may be the best in a few years.
Dr Callmann is truly a gem. Ochem is extremely tough regardless of the professor, but she really cares about the success of her students and provides all of the tools necessary to succeed. The grading criteria is a result of the department, not her decision. She presents the material clearly and gives ample opportunities to ask questions.
Yall ochem is one of the hardest classes I have ever taken and I truly had to put in the work, but I am so grateful to have had Dr Callmann. If you pay attention to her lectures, show up to office hours, do the hw and practice problems you will get the grade you want. She really knows her stuff and gives the resources needed to succeed
It was a rough semester particularly because this is Dr. Callmann's first semester teaching, but she seemed to really care about student success. The main issue was that her homework and exam keys were often full of errors, leaving students to question whether what they thought they knew was correct or not.
I would highly recommend Dr. Callmann. Any ochem course will require work outside of the lecture to learn, but Dr Callmann goes above and beyond to ensure her students have the supplemental resources they need to succeed. She hosts "coffee chats" after class every day, lots of office hours, and extra practice. She wants her students to succeed!
Ochem is a difficult class no matter how good your professor is, simply due to the material. However, Dr. Callmann made it much more bearable. I liked her teaching style and she provided tons of resources, past exams, skeleton notes (super helpful), recorded lectures, practice problems, etc. She is probably the best ochem prof available.
Dr. Callmann's teaching appeals to the visual learner and will give you a very strong foundation of ochem. She makes it so that the homeworks are harder than the exam content, so if you go to office hours and her TA's recitation sessions, and do the practice problems she gives you, you will be successful in this class. She's also very compassionate
Callmann is definitely an underrated professor. I think this might be because people signed up for Iverson but got switched right before the semester started. She is really good at teaching, and caring. She responds to emails always has a positive attitude. To succeed, I would redo any practice you get until you understand the material.
Callmann is definitely one of the kindest/sweetest ochem profs to choose. It was her first time teaching, so her study materials/ notes weren't the best (had lots of typos), but I'm sure they will get better in future semesters. Exams were challenging, so office hours and studying are a must. Plus side is she recorded lectures and posted all notes!
Homeworks have many mistakes which confuses students more and she goes through the material alot faster than other professors, therefore we don't actually learn the concepts as well. I was excited to take her hoping she would've improved from last year but now dissapointed, don't feel ready for ochem 2.
Ochem is typical, it's rigorous and hard. Callman tries her best to separate exams evenly in terms of content, so the class goes by FAST (always a midterm ahead of everyone else)!. Explains concepts super detailed and intricate, NEVER leaves a question or idea vaguely answered. Tries her best at making ochem enjoyable and not life-draining
Best professor at UT hands down. She has fair midterms, and drops the lowest one. She also posts all her old midterms/homeworks. She has skeleton notes to fill out during lecture, and then posts her notes on canvas right after. She also records her lecture if you miss it, and has a synchronous zoom option
Callman is a sweet professor, but she is new and makes mistakes in the lecture and homework keys. This made it really difficult to learn because I was always questioning if I was wrong or the key was. I think the pace of her lectures were too fast. Homework was WAY harder than the lecture examples. No textbook required. Office hours saved me.
90% of the grade is based on the midterms and final, and 10% was homework. We got 2 exam drops out of 5 (including the final). If you do meh on the exams it's nearly impossible to improve your grade. Luckily Callmann's homework ties in very well with exams. She's very caring but ochem is still a difficult class and you will have to put in the work.
Ochem is a challenging class no matter the professor, but Dr. Callman does an excellent job breaking down all the concepts. She's really sweet and relatable, and the exams are mirror images of the homework. Lecture moves FAST, faster than any of the other professors, so it's essential to stay caught up.
O chem is an insanely difficult class, but Dr. Callmann makes it very doable. It is still a lot of work, but it definitely pays off. Recitations with Vincent and office hours with Dr. Callmann were so helpful. She and Dr. Page are also very nice and generous professors who genuinely want to help out their students and set them up for success.
Dr. Callmann is an amazing professor. She supplies skeleton notes so you don't have to read the textbook. She also supplies so many practice exams from past years. Her tests are just like the ones from past years and the homework so if you put the work in, you can def get an A. She is also gave out a lot of extensions and extra credit!
The class was tough and very fast paced, but I think that has more to do with the rigor of o chem in general and not this specific class. Dr. Callmann was very thorough when introducing difficult new subjects and always gave us strategies to use when answering questions. The grade in this class is almost entirely based on exams, but the exams.
Professor Callmann is very organized and provides the necessary resources to succeed in ochem. Make sure to do a lot of practice problems and go to office hours. Recitations with Vincent helped me the most. Do the old homeworks and old tests to get extra practice and you'll do fine on the tests.
I was terrified going into ochem because of the stigma around but Callmann was literally a godsend. She cares so much about her students and wants you to learn and her exams are very very reasonable. If you have the chance take her!!!
Dr Callmann is great at explaining concepts and the exams are fair. You have weekly homework which is harder than what you cover in class, but doable with the help of youtube videos, office hours, etc. The tests are copy of the past tests which she uploads, so as long as you understand the concepts of the past test well, you will do great.
Dr. Callmann was such an amazing professor! She truly cares about her students and really seems like she wants you succeed. I was terrified of taking Ochem at first, but she made the concepts seem a lot less scary. Her exams are structured very similar to the homeworks which is really helpful and she provides skeleton notes for lectures.
Dr. Callman was the best professor I've had at UT. Her class is very structured and very fair. If you put in the work, you will do good. Make sure you understand the homework questions and the context of them. If you do that and take her practice exams, you will succeed. She is by far the best Ochem 1 Professor!!!!
Everything is very clear with Dr. Callmann, organized & structured. She likes to offer bonus points where she can. She uses the same format on the hw's for the exams so you know what to expect. hw are long but its the only work outside of class u have + its helpful. Organic is a tough topic but she holds your hand through it!
best ochem professor. she breaks concepts down in a way that's easily digestible, and her tests are exactly like her hws. she preps you well, and her lectures give you exactly what you need. she's also very inclusive, and makes sure lectures are online and in-person, and are live-closed-captioned. some of her hw keys have errors, though, so beware.
Callman is caring and will do whatever it takes to help you suceed! Homeworks are 2 points-1 for accuracy and the other for completion. The tests are similar to the homework and the past practice exams. She hosts her class on zoom and records it so attendance isn't mandatory! Overall, I had a good experience with her and I wish she taught Ochem 2!
Callmann was an amazing professor. She's very passionate about ochem so that was nice. Plenty of materials to help you prepare for exams/final, but the only drawback was there were many mistakes in the HW/notes keys so that made things confusing sometimes. Lots of office hours and if you put in the work you'll get the grade.
Dr. Callman is very sweet and her lecture notes are organized and easy to read/learn from. I found myself honestly learning more from her posted notes than from attending lecture the first time, so her notes were a wonderful resource that helped immensely. Tests are similar to her notes/homework, so good grades are doable with enough studying.
Callmann is a very nice lady who seems to care about her students and have a passion for chemistry. Ochem is hard no matter who you take, but she provides a lot of resources for you to grow and do better. Attend office hours and study the homeworks and you'll be fine :)
the class is pretty hard but doable. if you can do all the homework questions then you'll be ready for the test. the only grades are the homeworks and tests. make you study by doing all the homework problems which may show up on the test and for the final do the previous semester for prep for the comprehensive final.
Callmann gives you every resource in the world to get an A in this class. There are a million office hours each week and a billion homeworks/ practice tests to study for each test. To study, print out every test/ hw and do as much of them as you can. Write down ANY QUESTIONS and go to office hours to ask abt them. Then do it them again. Boom A+.
I don't care about chem at all. I didn't put in much effort, but I was still able to pass. She put questions from the HW on the exams. Exams are formatted very similarly to HW. Her lectures are easy to follow along as she provides skeleton notes. She gives EC. She is a very kind person and has an obvious passion for chem. I highly recommend her!
Organic Chemistry is a challenging course, but Dr. Callmann makes it very doable. I highly recommend taking her. During my semester, Dr. Callmann had to leave unexpectedly multiple times, and that led to inconsistencies taught from the TA's. Her TUMS instructors are very helpful; I would not recommend learning from the TA's, unless it is Vincent.
She's not a bad professor by any means but this class was so unorganized and there was so much disconnect between her and the TAs. OChem is going to be a hard class but it was so inconsistent and it's a lot of teaching yourself. In-class practice is so slay but the minute you get to the HW its so hard. Vincent is the only one you can trust too.
Dr. Callmann and her TA's are amazing! Although ochem is a hard class and there is A LOT of material, Dr. Callmann gives past HW's, past test's, and mechanism/reaction summaries, which are very helpful to study and match the format of her tests. If you put in the work, the class is very doable! She makes you not scared of ochem!
Callmann made Ochem easy for me. Homeworks are structured similarly to the exams and she gives you past exams to practice as well. As long as you keep up with the work and practice her ochem problems, you'll surely get an A/A-. Only complaint was slightly messy organization, but it was manageable. TAs are amazing, esp Vincent! Take her if you can.
OChem was okay but in general I felt unsupported in the class. TAs were not accessible when I needed despite OH especially Dr.Callmann. They are poor at responding to messages in a timely manner and 90% of your grade comes from exams. Note format was amazing but the class overall was below avg.
highly recommend callmann if you're intimidated by ochem like i was. there is so much support available in this class if you feel lost, and tests are exactly like homeworks/past practice exams so you're never taken by surprise. as long as you put in the effort and attend OH/recitations when necessary, you'll get an A/A-. great professor!
Super easy professor, especially for Ochem! Her exams are exactly like the HW, and she gives last semesters HW and exams as practice. TAs are super accessible and Vincent was so helpful in explaining things. Class is not mandatory but it is easy to fall behind, there are 4 midterms with one drop. Lots of TA office hours
callman is an amazing professor, and her skeleton notes are so helpful. the exams decide your grade, and thus must be studied for well. my mistake was fumbling early exams, try very hard in the beginning so that u can have leeway on harder exams like midterm 3 (the drop for most). such a doable A for an ochem course if u take advantage of resources
Dr. Callmann is an amazing professor! Her exams were very fair, but you definitely have to put in the work. In preparation for the exams, do and re-do her homework and practice exams - you will be prepared! Also, do your absolute best for exams 1 and 2, since exam 3 and 4 content gets really difficult. Make flashcards for the mechanisms!!
Professor Callman is one of the absolute sweetest professor's. Her TA team is very resourceful and provides you with so many various people, to where you can access a variation of teaching styles. She provides an opportunity to attend lecture on zoom. Take the time to study & you'll fine. Don't be afraid to email her, because she will help you!
Ochem was a lot easier and less scarier with her, and I definitely could've gotten an A if I didn't cram for every exam (so don't do that). Class is 90% exams with 4 midterms and a final, and she drops your lowest score and replaces the second lowest with the final exam if you do better. Redo all old HWs and exams she posts to study for each test.
Callman is the best chem professor I have had. Her lectures are easy to follow and there are plenty of resources to study for the exams. She is kind and a good teacher, but you have to put in the work. The final was harder than I expected, but I forgot a lot of the mechanisms. I got Cs in genchem and was actually able to understand ochem bc of her
This semester was a little difficult in Ochem bc Dr. Callmann wasn't always around (due to no fault of her own), but still provided an exceptional experience and even extended homework deadlines and offered extra credit. Definitely study after EVERY lecture and you will do great! Her TA Vincent is amazing at explaining things and has recitations.
Dr Callmann did a great job conveying the information that we needed to know throughout every unit. Expectations were clearly set and grading was very forgiving. If you pay attention in class, it should be an easy A.
Ochem itself is a pretty hard subject but Callman explains content pretty well. The midterms and homeworks weren't too hard if you pay attention. She gives a lot of resources and practice problems from past semesters (do them!!). Her TAs are also great and grade assignments fast. Tip: don't memorize, try to understand it
She is one of THE best ochem professors on campus! Please take her! Her lecture notes are very easy to follow, she has tons of resources to study for her 4 midterms, and her hw's follow lecture very well. She is SO kind, and her head TA, Vincent, are both great lecturers. :)
Dr. Callmann's lectures made ochem super straightforward - her homeworks were harder than exams but the types of problems were identical to midterms. Vincent's reviews + TUMS office hours give a very clear idea of what to expect. Ochem is a hard subject but she makes it easy provided you take advantage of her resources (ESPECIALLY past midterms)
Loved prof Callmann. So sweet, caring, & wanted you to succeed. Gives all material needed to prepare for exams.
Callmann was a great professor. The only complaint is that half of the TAs made mistakes on the keys and would also disagree with each other which caused confusion on some subjects. If you're looking for an "easy" ochem class, this is your best bet.
Would definitely recommend since there are SO many resources to prepare for exams, including last semester's midterms and homework. However, 90% of the grade are exams. It is so possible to do well on each exam by using all resources and practicing! There are many review sessions, office hours, and midterm reviews. This class is totally doable!!
She is great and if you work hard then you are likely to receive an A. I will say the inconsistencies of the homework, past exams, and current exams in the published keys are extremely frustrating. It makes it hard to see what is right and wrong when trying to prepare for tests. The tests being fair make up for it tho.
Dr. Callmann is awesome and her class was great too! O chem is going to be challenging regardless of who you take, but she really does try to make this class as resourceful and accommodating as possible. Class is test heavy, but HWs are very reflective of exams, and gives old exams too for practice. If you just put in the work you will do great!
Overall a great class structure with amazing explanations during the lecture. O-Chem 1 is hard that's the nature of the class but Callmann truly does a GREAT job at helping you understand it. Her TA team was amazing too, just study the guided notes she provides and the homework and you'll be set!
Prepare to teach yourself the entire class. She's extremely nice, but it lulls you into a false sense of security. You have to do a lot of review and practice outside of class to get the material down enough for the exam.
i thought that genetics would be my easier of the two but she's an amazing lecturer and exams have been extremely fairy to what is taught in class. she's been very kind to students who have questions which is refreshing. normally i do better in bio classes, but dr. callmann ensures all her student can succeed and is willing to work with you
Callmann made Ochem a much less challenging course than I imagined. Her lectures and notes are super clear and give you an understanding of what she will ask on the test. She's also just an incredibly nice professor and is there to help out if needed!
She is a lovely professor and makes o-chem sososo easy. It literally was one of my easiest classes and getting a high A on the exams is easy to get.
SUper easy class.
Dr. Callmann is literally the BEST! Yes, you will have to teach yourself outside of class but that is just the nature of ochem, not her fault. Her lectures are super organized and she gives you tons of material to prepare for each exam (exams from previous semesters) and they are all the exact same format. She really made me love this class!!!!!
Every single key provided has mistakes. Students shouldn't have to waste their own time figuring out whether their answer is wrong or whether the key is faulty. Also, a curve that only helps below average grades is outright silly.
The first two midterms are easy, it's afterwards that the class gets really challenging. The curve is strange, and class is okay
Professor Callmann is very kind, and makes lecture engaging. She is very approachable after class too, the class is very test heavy but the tests are not too bad. The lowest midterm gets dropped and you will get a curve every test but only if you perform below the average, anything above average remains the same.
Old keys are nightmares
Old keys are beyond a nightmare, you spend half the time trying to figure out whether the key is wrong or if you're wrong. The curve only helps the students who performed below the average so its basically useless, while she is a nice person just take Straumanis, he has a curve.
Whoever writes the keys would be failing the course. Also, you'll love the curve!
Curve is horrible, mistakes in the middle of exams, keys are full of mistakes, she might be kind but the class structure is horrid.
Just bad. Find someone else if you can
Didn't go to lecture much, but she was super nice. Don't have to take final if you're happy with your grade before the exam. Goated. Tests could be tricky but doable
TAKE DR. CALLMANN!!! She explains the material super well so it's easier to understand. OChem is a tough course but she gives you so many resources to help (review packets, past exams, review sessions, etc.). Exams are fair, but they are also pretty heavily weighted. She's super nice and an amazing professor!!
I loved this class. Callman is the best professor ever. I have never had so much fun in Organic Chemistry. Teron's recitations were the best. I HIGHLY recommend that he teach topics that Callman doesn't go over, which end up on the exam. Could you make sure to do all the practice questions and reviews because they are very vindictive of current exa
My favorite professor I've had at UT. She is super kind and knowledgeable. Lectures are amazing, never goes on tangents or strays from the topic. Homework is super straightforward but challenging and exams are super reflective of everything you'll have already seen. No surprises. Dr. Callmann is amazing please take her if you have the chance.
I love Dr. Callmann if I could take her class for every subject I would. She provides a MULTITUDE of resources that are EXTREMELY HELPFUL to the tests and she gives lots of extra credit and even let us not take the final. There are not enough words to describe how amazing she is and how much she cares for her students.
Dr.Callman has been my favorite professor at UT. She is so kind and caring and has so many materials for you to review before tests. I love her so much I would take her again and again and again!!!
this class was overall a pretty stressful experience she is VERY nice but the class is rlly rigorous and requires a lot of work and the keys are often really frustrating because theres a lot of discrepancies between them i think the TAs may have made our tests this year bc they were harder then the previous tests i wld take her if ur strong in chem
IGNORE THE HATERS ITS CRAZY THEY ARE HATING Dr. Callmann is the best ochem 1 professor. She is very kind and explains everything extremely thoroughly. Though the grade is test heavy, the tests are carbon pastes of the previous ones. People just stopped studying when we got to mechanisms. Ochem is hard but Dr. Callmann makes it much better.
Dr. Callmann is awesome! Classes offered over zoom and in person, and all the tests are so similar to past exams. I will miss her next semester!
While I agree that the keys were sometimes frustrating and TAs didn't agree on everything, I felt that this course was overall pretty good. As long as you study past exams and HW questions, you can do good. Ochem is hard regardless of which professor you have, so be prepared to work really hard.
Dr. Callman was amazing. Her tests were just like the past tests (a bit harder sometimes). I'm honestly disappointed in my grade because I could've done better. The only thing I hate is that exams are 90% of the grade, but I would take her class again if I could. I don't understand why her rating is this low, she's great!
If a B is suitable for you, this class is one that is very doable. If you put in the work, constantly study, go to office hours, and keep up with the material, an A is also very doable. The tests were difficult this semester in comparison to the past, but not impossible. This is a relatively self paced class, as is the nature of Organic chemistry
Very kind professor. She uses skeleton notes for all of her classes and they are usually well paced. This semester she had several personal life matters that lead to a lot of work falling on TA's, who frequently wrote difficult exams and keys or questions with incorrect information. It's likely going to improve with future semesters tho, so dw.
Dr.Callmann is one of the few professors at UT that continues to care about their students. She not only is kind but cares. I dropped strammy for callmann and what an amazing decision. Take her if you can. She makes ochem understandable, and prepared me for my MCAT.
Dr.Callmann is the true definition of a women in STEM. She is so empowering and good at teaching ochem. I understood ochem after taking her class, and I will miss her incredibly without her next year. Please take her for ochem she is truly amazing.
We Love Dr.Callmann!!! While yes the keys can get frustrating at times, I'm just glad there was practice problems and that the TA's were extremely active on Ed
callmann was very nice and it was clear what to study for midterms (past exams, hws, etc). i did dislike how test heavy it was so definitely do your absolute best on the midterms (worth 60%) so that the final (30%) doesnt have to be a super high grade. she did make the final optional the day before. it isnt too stressful compared to other profs
I liked how the exams were always a similar format. The hws can be a bit challenging imo. But the tests were always fair. 10/10 would take again.
I felt that Dr. Callmann truly cared about her students. She provided a ton of study resources, which are very useful for tests and homework. Lectures are useful but not mandatory; they are all streamed on Zoom and posted later, which is another good tool.
Dr. Callmann is fantastic. She truly wants students to succeed. She took a pretty difficult class and made it very digestible and attainable to get a great grade.
This class was well structured but I didn't like the teaching style. Dr. Callmann just works through reaction mechanisms during class which didn't help me learn, I would've preferred more hands-on learning such as practice problems or a more interactive lecture style.
This class made me cry and lose hair every single day. Of course that is the nature of ochem but this professor was hyped up a lot simply because she is nice (which she is) but the lectures and lecture notes did not help at all and I found ochem to be very difficult to teach to yourself. Do NOT fall behind for even a second in this class
callmann was a very kind professor! however, her lectures were not enough to get an A. i had to do a lot of self-teaching outside of class, but that is just the nature of ochem. midterms are worth 90% of your grade but they are very similar to the homework. the only issue was that the keys were inconsistent, but her TA team helped a lot!
This year was harder than last due to her personal issues and stricter TAs, who made the tests harder. With 90% of the grade based on tests, it's stressful since every point counts. Studying homework questions helps, as the tests are mostly fair.
Don't know why everyone is hating on her! Everything I used to learn and study was given. You obviously have to put in time outside of class to study and do HW but she tells you everything you need to know in the notes and I rarely had to read the textbook to clarify. The TAs and Ed were also helpful. Use what's provided and you'll def get an A
If you actually want to understand and learn ochem, do not take this class. Looking over what will be covered on the MCAT, Callmann does not TEACH you how to understand organic chemistry, she rather just gives you materials to memorize, which does not help the average premed student learn what is needed for the future.
In all honesty, callmann is very nice, however this class is not made for you to truly understand orgo. It is not going to help you for the MCAT. She provides you with tools to memorize. To do well on the MCAT you need to learn, not just memorize. I did well but only because Callmann prepares you for only her tests, not understanding orgo overall.
Callmann gave engaging lectures and was very understanding with my accommodations. I passed because she was so helpful and experienced.
Great Ochem professor with very clear HW and Exams. She posts previous years' homeworks and exams for you to practice and the ed discussion was very helpful.
Very awesome class. Idk why people being toxic about her, she is an awesome professor and is willingly to help you get an A in the class. People saying she won't prepare you for the MCAT, but to be fair, you are already going to self-study with like a prep book instead of your notes, so why does it matter? Take her, and you won't regret it.
I took her in Spring 23 and enjoyed her class, especially the Zoom option, hopefully she still does that. She was kind, understanding and let me turn in the homework late a few times because of personal issues. I just took the DAT and I can say that her class covered most ochem1 content I needed to know. (rest was ochem2+lab) Ignore the bad reviews
Had to drop with Dr.********* due to failing every exam but got a B with Callman, which is more than I could have ever imagined for ochem. Taking ochem 2 now and i'm well prepared for this class.
Callmann is a great professor who truly wants you to succeed. While O-Chem is challenging, she provides ample resources and practice problems. Using unstuckstudy alongside the guided notes can make all the difference.
I LOVED Dr. Callmann's class. Ochem is a difficult subject and will require studying but it's so doable. Study past tests and homeworks and you'll do fine on tests. Callmann is super caring and the TAs are great too.
I loved Callman's class so much. I was terrified of ochem because chem 2 was tricky for me, but I ended up really enjoying it. She gives sooo many study resources, records all lectures, and the homework is exactly like what you will see on the exam. Grading is very generous on exams and she always curves!
Callmann is a wonderful professor. She truly wants her students to succeed and have fun doing Ochem. There are so many resources which make it really easy to succeed. Be prepared to study, alot. I mean it is ochem. But truly, don't be weary of this class, Callmann makes ochem as easy and approachable as it gets. Also you get a test drop!
LOVE Prof Callmann!! She is so responsive to students and wants everyone to succeed. Extra credit offered on every test, plus bonus questions. Very easy to do well if you put in effort (Do ochem as second language textbook trust). She will change the class course based on student needs, often adapting it to be easier. Love her &wish she did orgo2
One thing I love about her class is that her exams are very fair. The homework is basically identical to the exams. She's really sweet, not a boring lecturer and funny as well. Obviously As are not just handed out but if you put in the work you will get the grade you deserve.
Overall, a great professor in terms of lecturing and teaching. The format and pacing of the class got pretty inconsistent towards the second half of the course, with students having to learn content over vacation breaks. Exam grades took a while to come out, especially during exam four, when we did not know if we had to prep for the final.
Dr. Callmann is a great professor who walks students through every step of the course content. Class was really easy to follow along with with her skeleton notes she provides. I really appreciated all the extra materials she provides with reactions and mechanisms. If you have the chance to take her course, absolutely do it!!
Dr. Callman is so sweet and breaks down content for Organic Chemistry really well. I understood most of the concepts really well. Her exams are basically alternate versions of the homework, and she posts old midterms and homework from past semesters to practice/study. Ochem is a difficult class, but she makes it easy overall and As are attainable.
Extremely good professor, made ochem very easy. I ended with a 104 average and didn't have to take the final. Her skeleton notes and previous homeworks and midterms made it easy to know how to study. There were many other opportunities to get help if needed.
Callman is a chill professor, but only really accesible after lecture (not by email). Lectures and past midterm/hw keys helped a lot, but makes no sense why we didn't get a final review. Lectures/ recitations recorded which was so convenient. A lot of extra credit opportunities! I struggled a lot, but that's because I didn't lock in. Doable A class
Callmann provided lots of resources for studying and the format of the past midterms were almost identical to the ones we took. She drops the lowest test and if you are happy with your midterm grades, you can use the final as your test dropped. She also does a t-curve on tests and gave soooo many extra credit opportunities this semester
Probably the easiest OChem professor at UT, which can be good or bad depending on how you see it. I breezed through this class, but I worry how much it will prepare me for OChem 2 and Biochem. Very accommodating to student concerns- even moved tests from Monday nights to in-class because of course conflicts. Previous exams were very similar.
Very easy class to succeed in, as the tests are very similar to the homework. Memorization heavy(such is the case with all Organic Chemistry classes). Definitely tries to help, but you kind of just have to grind through it on your own and figure it out. Easier tests than most and very happy and cheerful during class, which keeps the vibes up.
Spring 2025. Callmann is a wonderful professor. Homeworks are assigned after the entire unit is finished are the EXACT SAME format as exams (4 midterms/1 final with one exam drop). Callmann really wants you to succeed in ochem, and there are TONS of help sessions, available all days of the week. Ochem is a pattern recognition class, so practice!!!
Spring 2025, Callmann is an amazing professor! She gives a lot of extra credit opportunities, and her tests aren't too hard if you know how to study and understand the topics covered in class. I recommend watching YouTube videos on topics you don't understand and also attending review sessions/office hours. MAKE STUDY GROUPS WITH PEOPLE!!!
she listens to her students. no quizzes- lectures go over easy stuff too much, not mechanism based, so exams are quite light
She is amazing and very caring! I really enjoyed ochem because of her. Her lectures style is helpful because she does fill-in in the blank notes. Her old exams really helped when studying for her exams. And she give lots of extra credit opportunities. I had her spring 2025. The workload is definitely manageable. I truly recommend her!!
