She is a horrible speaker and talks to you like she's hosting a game show and it is the weirdest thing. The examples she does in class are pretty easy but then the worksheets, quizzestests and homework are a lot more difficult. She also assigns a lot of online homework which is frustrating.
I took Cassandra Fisher this summer ('15) for Math 105 and she absolutely made my summer term. I struggle with math but she somehow she laid it out there and made it so simple. I have an 85% going into the final and this is my first math class at a university. She expects HW but its due the exact same day each week. TAKE CASSANDRA FISHER FOR MATH!!
Professor Fisher is the best math instructor I have had in college. This course was extremely organized and her instructing pace never felt rushed nor slow. She makes an effort to know each of her 150 students understand. Tests were reasonably hard, but she allows a half sheet of notes. Wish I could take her for 106.
really clear communication.
Expect lots of homework and quizzes weekly. Despite large homework load I would recommend her simply because she is a really good teacher. You might have to spend more time on the class with her as the teacher but you'll leave it extremely knowledgeable.
She has a way of teaching that makes everything really understandable. Really takes the time to make sure that everyone is understanding the material. She was my favorite professor.
She's alright but unless you know how to read math through the textbooks its hard to get help for her class. She doesn't curve grades so what ever you get is what you get. She is helpful during office hours and is very respectful and kind. Not entirely clear on how she gets her answers (this is subject to whoever is taking her class though
One of the better math professors Ive had. They were able to explain things very well on a one on one level when I went to office hours. Would recommend.
She grades hard and off of weird unnecessary criteria. Example: if you are given an equation where you have to simplify, put f(x) in-front of every step because you're going to be marked down 50% on that question even if you did everything right. She marks off a ton if you do something correctly but not the way she wanted even if she didn't say so.
Cassandra is a good math teacher but she isn't really good at working with students. Our HW is assigned on Monday around 2 pm, and it's due Thursday at 12pm, which means we rush through it. She isn't flexible with it either. Not having HW on the weekends sucks. She also assigns lots of even numbers which means you can't check your answers.
She doesn't let you have note cards for any of her exams or her midterms so expect to memorize a lot of calculus stuff.
There are only 2 tests and both are worth 35% of your grade. There is weekly homework that is due during discussion but there isn't much of an option to get help with it. It was very frustrating going to office hours and not getting the help that I so desperately needed. Overall the material makes since, but you need to go to class in order to pass
Professor Fisher is a great teacher. She explains content thoroughly and gives lots of examples. She is easier to understand and seems caring. I'm math challenged and I was able to pass her class.
Fisher takes the complexities of calculus and makes it easy to understand. I've never her seen her have a bad day, and she's always ready to help (i.e. doing homework questions at the beginning of class). She is very welcoming and I was never afraid to talk to her. There were quizzes each week but they made it easy to understand the material.
Cassandra has been my favorite math teacher/professor I've had. She can be a tough grader on some things, but she makes math really clear. I like her note style a lot and she's easy to reach out of class.
Great teacher. Clear requirements. Better than the other professor for math 246.
I didn't love Fisher when I had her, but then I had some of the other math professors at UO. She is clear and organized. Her lectures make sense. There is a lot of homework, but it pays off. The material was hard so you have to do a lot of practice. One of the better math teachers I've had.
Fisher is a good professor and pretty layer back. The homework can be difficult due to a gap between what is learned in class and the material. If you study everything that has been covered prior to the exam, the tests are fair and not extremely difficult, but you definitely should study.
gives clicker extra credit for getting all the questions right in class. math homework takes about 3 hours every time due to different terminology and some stuff not being taught in class. kinda mean to be honest. felt a little dumb sometimes. sometimes felt like she was talking to me as if i was in 2nd grade but she is def a greatlecturer
Cassandra is a very nice woman who does a good job of explaining the content. Not her fault math is the worst. She does a really nice printed note format that is extremely organized, helpful, and easy to follow along to.
Cassandra fischer is by far one of the worst things to happen at this school. She is a nice lady, but her assignments do not align at all with the lecture content and she will give out new content two days before a test. On top of that, her reviews are awful and has major pacing problems. Do not recommend.
She's a good teacher, but has really high expectations and gives a lot of homework and pretty hard tests. Overall, I think the difficulty of her classes overweighs the quality of her teaching. It's hard to get a good grade in her class.
explanations and lectures do not help for homework and studying AT ALL!
she gave so much work, and a lot of the time the homework she gave did not correspond to the lectures. I was confused the whole time. The class was not set up in a good way. No matter how much I studied (which was a lot) I still could not figure out what to do.
Cassie was my favorite professor this term. She's clear about her expectations and directions. She's very clear on her explanations of problems and leaves a lot of class for if you have questions. A lot of the class is centered around group work. Additionally, she's really nice and approachable. Would recommend!
This professor does not seem to care for her students. Do not expect any grace from this teacher, dull lecturer as well.
The homework she requires us to do doesnt correspond with any tests or quizzes and the lectures she does dont help with the homework or to study for the test and quizzes. I took the same class in high school and got a good grade but she just confused me. She also didnt help me when I would email asking for help on a problem.
Cassandra is very clear about expectations and what needs to be done in class. When it comes to the workload for this class, there is literally something due everyday or other day. There are weekly online/ written homeworks, quizzes and and class worksheets. Test are evenly weighted but are difficult. Cassandra is also a very very strict grader.
Her organization is all over the place. Wayyyy too much work and she doesn't give you enough time to process it. Find a new professor if you can. You'll learn much more from Khan Academy than you will from her.
Professor Fisher is one of my favorite professors this term. She is really understanding about make ups and she is good at explaining the content. Sometimes the textbook homework is a lot more difficult than what we do in class but if you go to office hours she explains it well and helps walk you through it.
If you can teach yourself math or math comes easy this class will be fine. But if your someone who struggles with math and or needs extra help I would not take this class. No extra credit, no retakes, very strict, and lack of care for students.
She takes her time in lecture to make sure the content is clear and understandable. You get extra credit when you get iClicker questions right, so make sure you pay attention and you'' do well in the class. Quizzes every week, but honestly they kept me on track to I didn't mind them.
Fisher is good, don't skip lectures or you won't understand what's going on, and don't be afraid to ask questions. Weekly homework packets and twice weekly WebWork. The weekly quizzes and packets aren't bad if you go to lecture, the webwork is challenging. I would recommend this class just make sure to not fall behind.
If you are someone that struggles with math and are unable to teach it to yourself then I do not recommend Cassandra. She does the math examples during lecture but does not explain at all how or why it should be done that way. There are quizzes every week and no extra credit, retakes, or curve on test. Overall, not a good class.
Good teacher, notes were clear and easy to understand. She posts lecture guides after class so you dont have to pay a TON of attention in lecture.
Prof. Fisher was very accessible outside of class during her office hours and through email. She definitely is one of the reasons I was able to complete the WebWork every week.
Professor Fisher is super good about answering questions when they come up in class. I've had her for math 247 and 246, and both classes are structured really similarly. One thing I really appreciate is how available she is, and the lecture guides she hands out. This is a tough class, and attendance is super important to not miss anything, though.
Calculus was so confusing for me in high school! I took Calculus for the Bio Sciences 246 and 247 with Prof. Fisher and she made calculus SO straightforward for me! Great teacher, shows respect for students, provides a manageable amount of work.
Grading sucks, miss one homework assignment and your grade tanks. Amount of homework is impeccable. Doesnt know how to explain her work and goes super fast. Youre going to be at tutoring and teaching yourself a lot if you take her class.
This is a hard class in general so I think she tries her best to make the material easy to understand. Her follow along notes help make lectures easy to follow. During office hours she there are usually quite a few students so she can take a while to get to your question. She cares about her students and tries her best to help you pass the course.
I could probably learn more in an hour and twenty minutes of silence than I could in the hour and twenty minutes that I am stuck in the lecture hall during her lectures. She is genuinely one of the worst math professors I have ever had. She overcomplicates every topic and explains everything at a pace which makes it near impossible to keep up.
Professor Fisher grades incredibly rough and gives immense amounts of homework. As well as giving near worthless review materials that are nothing like the tests in which seem to be made as hard a possible. As well as partial is barely even a grading concept. Good luck with this professor.
Calculus is definitely a tough subject but Professor Fisher made the material easy to understand and helped it seem very relevant to biological topics! There are weekly quizzes, but they are not difficult at all if you take notes and study. The exams are the same level of difficulty as quizzes so there are no surprises!
Cassandra was an amazing math teacher. I got a lower grade because I didn't apply myself as well as I should have but she is very concise with the way she explains concepts. She really wants you to do well and as far as math goes she is really great professor. If you want to do well in her class, if you apply yourself you will do great.
This class is really easy and all review if you paid attention in high school math, but if you don't know your algebra you will struggle. Professor moves fast through content because it should all be review of high school algebra but very helpful and patient during office hours. Extra credit for attendance and drops low quizzes. Notecard for exam.
Best math teacher I've had in years. Hard weekly quiz/Midterms killed my grade, but I honestly feel I learned a lot, Fisher truly cares about the good of the class. Her office hours are super helpful and she is always happy to give more problems/explanations. Recommend to anyone needing Calc. Take good notes her lectures are super helpful
I was afraid to take her class after seeing the reviews here, but after taking her class I can confidently say that the reviews are not at all similar to my experience. She explained everything thoroughly, was eager to help, and offered lots of extra credit. She made calculus feel easy. Only con - sometimes treats students like they are still in hs
WORST TEACHER EVER I was struggling with the class and sent a kind email to her asking where I could find resources to help. I was new and was struggling to figure out what content was on quizzes/exams, there were no practice exams and the HW was completely unrelated to the course. She sent an email back basically saying to F off and figure it out.
The lectures are okay but they have zero relation to her tests and quizzes. Lectures leave you having no idea how to do the homework and quizzes.
She is always willing to help if you have questions
Good teacher, very difficult course.
Good professor for lecturing, arguably goes too slow and sometimes overcomplicates/explains problems. Required study time around 4 hours to do well on midterms, in class quizzes every thursday with three homework assignments due per week. good teacher, 4 classes per week, not overly difficult
Fisher was a good professor. I think she overcomplicates things but overall is clear and thorough in her lectures. Weekly quizzes and homework were honestly good to keep me on track. Class seemed a lot more difficult than I expected for "college algebra" and I went to tutoring for most of the homework. Overall a pretty good math professor!
DROP THE CLASS PLEASE!!!!!!!!!
she was an ok person, overcomplicates the lectures and uses iclickers to take attendance. she acted like a high school teacher though, as soon as people started talking she did the "ill wait" bit which was really annoying.
Prof. Fisher offers a lot of extra credit for just participating with iClicker and she is great at explaining problems during the lecture slowly and thoroughly. Her course is structured very well and if you are willing to put in decent effort, I recommend taking this class.
This was my first calc class ever and she helped make it less difficult as I had imagined. She gives a quiz and like 2 homework sets a week but it's webwork. Lectures could be better but at least she covers what's gonna be on the exam. Office hours were definitely beneficial but she treats you as if you were still in hs which is annoying.
Cassandra Fisher completely changed how I view calculus. I consistently got Ds on tests in high school and was crying over my homework each night. The way that she teaches the material just works so well for me. I got As on every test! It was insane how she managed to make such a difficult topic so approachable. Love u P. Fisher !
Professor Fisher is an excellent lecturer and a fair and considerate professor. Her office hours are extremely useful and I would definitely recommend going to them if you're at all having difficult with a topic. Her tests and quizzes are reasonable and she prepares us well for them, I would definitely recommend taking her.
I love her! She makes the class really easy and her teaching is very straightforward. Attendance in lectures is not mediatory but in discussions it is. Her tests are straightforward as well. She is easy to get a hold of and offers lots of office hours.
I'm seeing all of these poor reviews, but they seem to wrong! I'm someone who isn't really the smartest person, but this class felt fairly easy, as she explained everything thoroughly and well. Some reviews talk about how she complicates her lectures, but it's only to give the students a better understanding of the material. She's great!
Cassandra is such a smart, thoughtful instructor. She does not complicate things as much as it is said here. The things are helpful if you pay attention. I would not recommend skipping this class as you will miss A LOT of info and its difficult to catch back up. Her grading/assignments are very well organized and she was great at explaining math!
Ms. Fisher was a great professor and her lectures were easy to understand. She provides lecture guides before class and posts all of her notes on canvas. You have 1-2 weekly homework assignments, 1 weekly discussion worksheet, weekly quizzes, 1 midterm and 1 final. She gives you more than enough time to complete all of it. She is the best!
At first, I thought there was a lot of homework for this course, but the concepts were fairly easy to learn and the homework never took too long. She explained things in a way that made sense and posted the notes from lectures online.
Professor Fisher was amazing! She is so sweet and this class is relatively easy. Consists of webwork assignments, 1 midterm and 1 final. She was an amazing teacher!
Dr. Fisher is a great math professor! She made concepts super easy to understand and posted lecture guides (blank and fully filled out) on Canvas in case you miss class or need more time to focus on an example. I really like how she color-codes her work so you can see where she's getting all of her numbers from.
I thought this class was easy and the lectures were clear. It's important to print her lecture guides to follow what she's doing in class, or through a tablet. Although I thought the class was easy, I know many students who struggled. I never went to her office hours but those who did said she was not very helpful.
Fisher is very straight forward with her teaching style and isn't afraid to go back and repeat herself when needed. Her guidelines of grading is also much more clear than most math classes.
Professor Fisher is a great math professor and someone who I hope to be in another class with. Her lectures are a little fast paced, but she is very willing to go back and repeat herself if needed. She is incredibly flexible and understanding, which is great for a student like me, who struggles with due dates and generally dislikes math. 5/5
Professor Fisher is a great math teacher. If you go to class, take notes, and pay attention to the material, you should have no difficulty getting at least a B. She makes things almost too simple at times. Extra credit is possible through clicker questions.
Casandra makes the lessons easier by writing in different colored pens, so you know how she did the problem. she has weekly quizzes on Fridays with her GEs, Joe was the best GE out of all of them. Her study guides for the midterms didn't match.
Professor Fisher lectures are clear, well spoken and taught at a reasonable pace. She teaches content in a digestible way making concepts clear and simple. She is kind and willing to help if reached out too. All assignments for this class are helpful in preparing you for the tests.
Fisher teaches in very cryptic ways if you do not have access to a printer. Without her lecture guides in your hands, it can be difficult to understand the concepts. I took high-level math in high school and still had difficulty learning from her.
Fisher teaches lectures at a reasonable pace, notes are clear and easy to understand. I recommend printing out the lectures, making it easier to look back on. There are weekly homework assignments and a quiz at the end of the week. DO the practice reviews for exams plus you're allowed to have a notecard. Overall she's a great math professor!
Professor Fisher is a great, flexible professor if you prefer high-school-style classes. Color coding and all. Grading is fair and fast, awarding partial credit often. Weekly quizzes, 2 midterms, and 1 final, which can improve midterm scores. Homework roughly twice a week on webwork. She also gave the entire class a massive grade bump after finals.
Fisher made this class interesting; she always used real-life examples, which helped me keep focus. I would 100% recommend her as a math teacher.
Truly enjoyed her math teaching. Very clear explanations and walks you through every step of the way! I LOVED her lecture guides; really were useful to have! Webwork and practice exams are usually tougher than the actual exam itself! Overall really loved her!!!!
She was a great lecturer and really cared about your success in the class. Go to her office hours, it really helps and she is very helpful when she is able to help you. Grading is very clear; study well and pay good attention in class and you'll be successful.
I love ms. Fisher. I had her for both trig and calc for the bio sciences 1 and i'm going to taker her next term for calc for the bio sciences 2. She is really helpful and approachable during office hours and she prints out worksheets and notes packets for you and gives them to you at the start of class so you are not on your own.
I think she was generally a good professor, I just didn't have a good time because I don't enjoy math at all. She was very helpful throughout the term and I definitely would've gotten a worse grade if I had a different professor lol.
My experience in this class was very frustrating. Despite making every effort to do well (Go to class or you will not pass.
This class is not easy, but Cassandra explains everything so clearly! She talks to us like kindergarteners, but sometimes that's exactly what we need. If you don't have calc experience, you'll struggle. Pay attention in every lecture, ACTUALLY do the webwork/homework and this class will be a breeze. Sign up for encore if you can.
You can't miss a single class if you want to be caught up, if you miss one you fall so far behind and it's hard to catch up. Study guides and other related materials do not prepare you for exams, which always seem to be made as hard as possible. The class average on the final was below a passing grade.
Such a difficult teacher, did not at all make lectures engaging and would get incredibly frustrated if someone just as much coughed during lecture. She seemed to hate her job and take it out on us, could not finish out the term with her because of how unhelpful she was
Professor Fisher was great at explaining the content; however, the exams were way more difficult than exams of previous 241 classes. Attendance is required with iclicker questions and exam reviews tend to be way easier than the actual exams.
I would generally say every criterion matches to be an adequate professor. The course is formatted similarly to every math class I've previously taken, just at a bigger scale. I think it's just a basic math class, just like every other math class, so everything is fair.
If you show up to lectures and try to learn you'll do great in Business Calc. It's not a crazy class and I was pretty nervous going into it. Fisher's lectures are super clear and break things down really nicely. Just don't miss class or you'll fall behind. Also go to tutoring and office hours as soon as you need help cause stuff piles up fast.
As long as you show up to office hours and take notes in class, you will do fine.
While very math-savvy, Prof. Fisher often comes across as rude and tends to talk down to students. I would not have passed this class if not for my WONDERFUL GE and Class Encore leader who helped me understand the material instead of just reading it to me and solving it in class. Overall a very frustrating experience and I am glad it's over.
this professor grades very hard, she marks you down many points for one mistake. She makes the quizzes very heavily affect to your grade. She also isn't very helpful when asking questions. She did about 14 units in 10 weeks, that's less than a week to even learn an entirely new topic which is nearly impossible.
I really liked her as well as this class, as long as you go to class you will be good. She explains things well and clearly and gives out extra credit everyday in class with the iclicker. Attendance is graded, but if you get the extra credit points it covers you.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS, one of the WORST profs I've ever had. I did good on the homework assignments but her quizzes and exams are an actual joke, final exam was a literal joke. Went to her office hours, she was so rude and passive aggressive. She WILL mark you down for the smallest mistakes and not say why. Retaking this class, but NOT with her.
Prof Fisher was one of the best professors I've had at the UO. Expect a weekly, one-page quiz and weekly homework assignments. Prof. Fisher is very understanding and easy to talk to, and is very fair in giving partial credit on quizzes/ exams. As long as you put in effort and attend lectures, you'll be fine.
Ms. Fisher is very nice and helpful but pretty sure she is a Trump supporter
Cassandra was amazing, she was caring and always explained topics well, especially if there were questions. There where 2 midterms and a final with weekly quizzes on Friday. Attendance is not mandatory Mon-wed but is on Friday, go to class -she does not post notes or lectures. Overall, I really enjoyed this class because of her teaching style.
she is amazing i love her! super caring and helpful, easy to reach outside of class, and her lectures actually make sense. first math class ive enjoyed since middle school and i feel like im actually learning/understanding content. weekly homework/worksheets/quizzes but they arent hard and you get a notecard for tests/exams
Cassandra took the time to make sure her students understood the material. I was nervous about the material at first, but she explained it very well. Overall, I would take her class again.
Prof. Fisher is very kind, but the class itself has flaws. The class is very test heavy, midterms worth 40% and final worth 30%, everything else is homework and quizzes. She does not post lectures, slides, or notes after class so you need to show up or else you are screwed. She is hard to follow along with and went fast in lecture, very hard class.
One of the best math teacher ive had. Practice test are very simliar to the real midterm, and expect quiz weekly/hw/webwork. But overall pretty chill class.
Recommend not skipping the class, I missed some days, and it was hard to catch up on. But go to her office hours because that really helped.
One of the best math profs Ive had. Lectures are fast and sometimes hard to follow if you get lost, but ask questions and she will help. Ive always had a hard time in math but the way she taught made it easy to understand.
