First semester for her at UGA and it was a rocky start in terms of grades. She took a while to budge enough to drop 1 quiz (out of 8 total). I did well, but only after studying my ass off like it was an upper level course. I learned A LOT, which feels amazing but I did not feel like it was representative of an intro to astronomy course.

I took ASTR 1010 with Dr. Cass. She is really funny and very passionate about astronomy, but this was nothing like a beginners course. It is extremely math heavy and I would recommend taking anything but this to get your physical science credit unless Astronomy is your major or you have taken an astronomy course before. I have never done so bad.

Dr. Cass is such a lovely person who is really passionate about space. This makes the class super enjoyable, which is weird because I'm a psych student and I'm only taking this because it's mandatory. Everyone's biggest complaint is that the material is hard, and I agree with that but she can't really help it. W for British people

Dr. Cass is a great professor. You can tell that she loves what she does. Class is very difficult for intro class, especially if only taking for a science credit. Attendance not mandatory, but gives out extra credit if you do come to class. Gives out A LOT of extra credit. You won't fail if you try to understand material.

Good teacher who cares about her students understanding the content but don't take it just for a physical science credit. It was interesting but I always had to finish taking notes at home. Extra credit given for every lecture attended along with additional extra credit, which helps a lot. You can get an A in the class but it takes some effort.

Good lord is this class difficult. Dr. Hall is very accessible outside of class, hilarious, and is overall a great, kind, and caring professor, but DO NOT take this class if you're a freshman getting your physical science credit out of the way and you think astronomy looks cooler than geology. It definitely is, but suck it up and learn about rocks.

I didn't know anything about astronomy before ASTR 1010, and now I actually feel understand some of the stuff about the JWT telescope with the pictures and everthing, Ms Hall got that into my brain and I am not good at science. Everyone still got an A/B and she offers a lot of extra credit, so maybe it's not as hard as all that when she teaches it.

If you're taking this solely for credit, take another class! It was fascinating but also tough. It will be much more difficult if you've never taken a physics class. 90% of your grade comes from three quizzes and a final (with homework being 10%). I love how dedicated she is to her work, but she is a very fast (and confusing) lecturer.
