A very demanding professor and works well with very uninteresting and unsubstantial material. Very enthusiastic, expects a lot from his students. Tedious work but you learn a lot. Tests are hard and require studying.
Overall a really nice guy and cares a lot about his students. The tests are challenging and require a lot of prep. The SWOT project takes the whole semester to do but it can boost your grade a ton. Not the hardest class in the world but if you put in the effort you will succeed in this class
Professor Macarie is a great, sociable guy, but as a professor he is very strong-willed. Personally I liked this because he forces you to pay attention and participate in class. I would advise reviewing the chapter before class so you can answer his questions (if he calls on you, he will make you stand up and answer).
Great guy. Hard class. Tests are very difficult but they are only 20 to 25 percent of your grade. SWOT project in the fall and the business plan in the spring will keep your grade up. He loves students to participate in class!
Prof. Macarie is a great guy who really knows what he is doing. His lectures do involve participation and material knowledge, so ALWAYS come to class with the chapters read. If you do not finish the chapters in class, note taking is on you. Tests aren't bad if you study for them. The SWOT project in the fall should help keep you grade up.
I like him, and he is a nice professor.
MaCarie is intimidating at first but he lightens up after the first few weeks. He is super knowledgeable and super funny. He is stricter with the international students.. barely any homework. he expects you to read the chapter before class but he goes over everything. DO NOT FORGET YOUR NAMETAG. takes attendance weekly & tests aren't terrible.
COOL DUDE AND THE FIRST REAL PROFESSIONAL I HAVE WITNESSED IN MY ENTIRE SCHOOLING. HE NEEDS TO REPLACE TIM COOK FROM APPLE.
I honestly loved Macarie's class. He is a super cool guy and there to help whenever you need it. Catalin seems super scary at first but get on his good side in the beginning by answering questions in class and reading the chapters prior to class and you won't have a problem.
You might think hes a tool at first, but macarie is one smart dude and has the resume to back it up. Hes a really nice guy and is willing to go out of his way to help anyone from course material to resume critiques. Come to class with chapters read. Dont take tests lightly. SWOT and Business plans help boost your grade alot!! Learned alot from him
Professor Macarie is by far the most engaging professor at the University of Cincinnati. If not for him, I would not have been equipped with the necessary tools to become an exceptional student.
If you study the text, his class will be great
Read the text and powerpoints and you'll get an A
The tests are bad they just aren't dumb easy. Forget the book. Just raise your hand and answer the common sense questions in class to get your participation and THOROUGHLY memorize the powerpoint and you will get an A
He was probably the nicest teacher I have ever had, he seems really intimidating but he is really an understanding guy. As long as you study for the exams it is easy to get an A in his class.
Very intimidating but helpful. You could email him about anything and he would be willing to meet or talk with you. Tests are a little difficult but projects are majority of your grade. He's willing to yell at anyone in class and make you feel awkward but gets information out of people.
Great guy that cares a lot about his students. Although he makes you read a lot and know the material, he makes the class enjoyable and is energetic. I recommend.
Scares people pretty bad on the first few days of class, but really a caring guy who wants all students to succeed. If you do well on the semester project and study his power points before tests, you'll likely get an A. Professor Macarie does not put up with annoying students or students not willing to work. Never use your phone or show up late.
Prof Macarie is the best teacher I have ever had. He is interactive, fun, and very very intelligent. Be on his good side. He makes you work, but in an enjoyable way. Go to class and participate. Make him know who you are. Tests are tough, but are a small portion of your grade.
One of my least favorite professors. He expects you to know the information before you walk into the classroom. He yells a lot and will throw you out of class if you forget the name tag he gave you on the first day. His test questions are taken right from his sides which are online but the tests are hard and there's a lot to memorize.
One of the most polarizing profs. at UC. You either love this guy or hate him. I personally love him. If you slack off you WILL get called out for it. If you're not participating in class you WILL lose points. He's not afraid to speak his mind, extremely outgoing and in-your-face. That being said you will absolutely learn a ton from this professor.
Very good at communicating new concepts to students unfamiliar with any business topics. His tests can be tricky so read and know the power points at heart. Mainly what sets Prof. Macarie apart from all other professors is his ability to push you out of your comfort zone, different students react to this in different ways so keep an open mind.
Professor Macarie comes off as really nice yet intimidating. But for being a one credit hour class the work you put in will exceed any other classes you take. Grading scale for participation is not fully explained until after grades are posted and cannot be changed. He is hard to reach because he expects you to just go through your PACE leaders.
I had Professor Macarie for both MGMT1051 and 1052. He is someone that some students love and others absolutely don't. I personally respect him and believe he truly cares about what he teaches and really wants to prepare us for the real world. Make sure to pay attention and participate. He can tell if you care about this class or not.
Go to class and put the work in and you should get an easy A
This class is set up poorly. MGMT 1051 should be an easy A, the class is a load of bs. Yet Macarie treats it like its a huge deal and should be graded like one of the toughest classes on campus. Overall absolutely horrible class
He makes what should be an easy class difficult. The class is only one credit hour but I had to spend more time it than my five credit hour course. Dont take him if possible.
Participation system doesn't accurately capture how much you participate. I would come prepared every class and received a poor grade for participation. So for the second semester, I don't really care for his class because no matter how much effort you put in, it won't show for your grade. There's a lot of work and it's really not worth the time.
Students either love or dislike professor Macarie. I had him for two semesters and have nothing but great things to say. He shares intriguing and impactful stories that can help mold a prosperous future for yourself. He is a great educator and tries to make his lectures "more interesting" than standard. His tests are hard, but he is helpful.
Prof. Macarie has a lot of personality and fun stories to tell. Class is often fast paced and participation is graded by the TA. Reading chapters in the online textbook is the only homework. He also gives you one semester-long group project; it's a lot of fun. The textbook costs $70 and a software called TopHat which he makes you download costs $30
His course is pretty well set up. You take notes from a PowerPoint and if you just study the information on that slideshow, you should do pretty well on the test. I loved his teaching style. He expects you to have the chapter read before you come to class so you will need the book and he loves participation. He is a little intimidating at first.
Really cool teacher with a lot of stories to tell. Goes over a powerpoint each day where you take notes. After two chapters you have a quiz over the information on the powerpoints. Really tough grader on the S.W.O.T. presentation because the criteria was unclear.
Claims understanding will be rewarded but tests are straight memorization. Questions and section are not clear at all. Half the challenge is finding what he wants you to answer. Received an A in Fin. Acct got a D on his test. Really needs to change the curriculum and method of teaching. Class teaching does not prepare you for the projects.
To get an A, you just have to know the material for the weekly quizzes and participate in your group project. His quizzes are straight from the book and the concepts are all very simple- mostly vocab. Everything he expects from you is laid out from the beginning and he is willing to work with you if you show you care.
Professor Macari is such a respectable man. He has a vast set of experiences from his time in the business world and shares amazing stories that are so helpful to an understanding of business and overall make his class so enjoyable. He's also always ready to talk to any of his students and give them genuine guidance in their careers.
Very well-respected professor. Wants to see his students succeed. Have to read a chapter every week and then there is a quiz every Monday. Quizzes could be hard for how much material was expected to be covered in a week. Class activities really helped tied everything together. Can be intimidating.
He changed his quizzes so they are through his own textbook, and the questions are so specific and random that in order to pass the quizzes I would spend my entire sundays trying to memorize his textbook. Getting an A in his class is more of a draw of luck depending on what company you get for his project and how much your group cares about success
Quizzes he gives every week are just memorization, doesn't teach out of textbook until the day of the quiz he'll do a quick Q&A for a few minutes as review for the quiz, so you'll have to read the chapters yourself. The other homework assignments throughout the semester will be graded by your PACE leader.
Professor Macarie is amazing. His lectures are meaningful and informative. He stated several times how much his students mean to him, and he will ALWAYS make time to meet with students 1 on 1 if requested. The main part of your grade is the group presentation at the end, which is fun and challenging, but not difficult. Quizzes are easy, just read.
This class is all about what Macarie can fit into a 55 minute course. The quizzes are 7 min long with 5 questions, all extremely specific. He will give an assignment with only 15 min of class left and leave five min for all six groups to present to the class. After presenting he will tear you apart in front of everyone. Extremely rude and entitled.
Simply put, the fact that this class is one credit hour is astonishing. Every Sunday before the quizzes will be spent trying to memorize the chapter word for word. The quizzes aren't difficult, they are just annoying considering no learning takes place. You can tell he cares about his students, but his class is very frustrating nonetheless.
I thoroughly enjoy going to Macarie's classes. You are required to go to class because attendance is taken by your PACE leader. There are also lots of participation activities during class. Outside of class there are very few hw assignments and then your group project. There are quizes every week that are fairly easy
The in class quizzes are difficult if you don't read his text book. That is the one thing that brings down most peoples grades in this class. There are only two homework assignments a semester and each of them are pretty easy. If you show up to class and work well with your group you will do fine in the class
If I could give him a 0 I would. Someone told this man he was it, and he really believes it. The class is one credit hour, and the projects alone take up a large amount of time inside and outside of class. He thinks he runs the business program and that his class will make or break you. It's literally the freshman business class, chill. Avoid him.
Let's just say that this ONE credit hour class wrecked my first year. Macarie's expectations for freshman are near impossible. You can spend hours a week on this class and still be praying for an A. Despite going remote, Macarie did not accommodate. This class was the biggest headache of my first year. All I can say is "good luck bearcat".
Only take this class if you want to be torn down with every email and after leaving every single class. (Nvm it's required) :/ He is very mean and makes each student feel stupid for having questions or making a mistake. I worked very hard and new he was a tough grader and had an A until our final group project and was bumped down to a C-.
Amazing man, be prepared for daily quizzes and pray for a good group becuase your grade depends on them.
If you ever need help with anything not related to his class he is very accessible, and offers so much for his students(like job opportunities)that few people take advantage of. As long as you read the chapter every week you will be fine. also, groupwork is huge considering the entire basis of the class is a project. super caring and inspiring guy.
The projects were a cool experience, however, working in a group of twenty kids is difficult. Make sure you study for the quizzes every week because the points add up. Also, participate like crazy because that is a good portion of your grade. For the projects, make your deadlines EARLY. Get ahead and don't fall behind!!!!
Your grade is based solely on a 20 person group project. You can ace all your individual work but your grade will be taken down due to the group project worth 200 points.
Participation is a large part of your grade, along with the weekly quizzes based off his textbook. Very busy and I would say hard to get in contact with but he has TAs also.
This class is all about participation and working hard on both projects assigned at the beginning of the semester. There's a weekly lecture that is required, and he assigns activities for all teams to do. Professor Macarie is smart and knows what he's talking about. He can be a bit aggressive at times, but he wants the best for his students.
Macarie can seem intense, but he truly wants his students to succeed. The weekly quizzes can be hard, but as long as you read the chapter and go over the vocab you will be okay. You HAVE to show up and participate in class. The more you participate, the better you will do. Make sure you stay on top of the group project, and do your part.
Professor Macarie is very intense. I always felt like I was walking on eggshells during his lectures as he would call students out for the smallest things. The weekly quizzes can be tricky. Participation is important so make sure you work well with your group. He can be rude and harsh but he does care about his students. Overall, a decent class.
He is intense but in a good way. His quizzes are pretty easy if you read the book.
Macarie's class has a very manageable workload and there isn't very much weekly homework outside of reading one chapter a week. Downside? The quizzes are kind of unpredictable even if you read the chapter. Attendance and participation are a major part of this class and your grade.
Professor Macarie created his very own textbook. The class was hard and the quizzes that we took required way too specific answers. Class averages ranged between 8/15 to 10/15 on each quiz. If you have three unexcused absences at all within the semester, you get "fired" and are forced to drop the class.
Macarie is truly inspirational - you can tell he cares for his students. The weekly quizzes are either extremely difficult or easy; not much leeway in between so be sure to read and study the chapter. The group projects are fun if you make it fun, and boost your grade a lot. Makes you stand in front of the class each week and present workshops.
He definitely cares and wants the best for his students although he comes across a bit harsh/mean. He is very funny and makes lectures enjoyable. Be ready to read and take quizzes. Class is based around project so be ready to present, attendance and participation are very important.
The number of credits doesn't justify the time I spent on this class each week. It is helpful that the class fosters collaboration, but the collective grading is very unfair. Also, the weekly quizzes require remembering a lot of useless theoretical definitions. I got perfect scores on the quizzes and had good participation, yet my team is bad.
I hated this class. Took it last year and was way more difficult than it should be to get an A. The quizzes are based off of the textbook which he wrote himself and if you dont have the exact word for word you will get it wrong. The project was horrible and he was of no help at all. Complete waste of time of a course.
I'm not a business student anymore, but I still think Macarie is one of the most intelligent people I've ever met in my life. He's intense but caring. If you aren't a slacker he's also incredibly understanding.
Macarie is a tough professor, but you can tell he cares for his students and their success. The SWOT Analysis at the end of the semester is tough if you don't have a good group to work with. He grades it on group performance but also takes peer evaluations into account so unless you actively participate, your individual grade won't be good
he thinks like businessman, he cares about his students. If you will put effort on it you will ace it. He cares about international students. If you will study key terms of the book exam is easy. One of the best professors in Lindner.
Just awesome professor
He has instincts a business person should have.
There is no actual teaching done in this class, it is just him answering questions. 99% self-thought and it is vital that you do the weekly readings. There is a quiz each week, be prepared for those. Your effort in this class determines your grade but it is very easily tanked. That can be because of another student in your LC or just one bad quiz.
Professor Macarie cares about his students dearly, and that can clearly be seen. He's very knowledgeable and entertaining. With that said, his class has weekly quizzes based off of extensive readings, lacks actually teaching his students, and can be daunting to talk to at times. Be extremely prepared for class every single week.
Catalin Macarie is one of the best professors in Lindner. He is also one of the most intimidating. If you aren't wiling to put in the effort and work hard you aren't going to like this class. If you have anything against Macarie that is your own fault. He teaches real life and what it means to be a business student.
the most stressful class ever
He is a professor that is well respected and has a great understanding of how the business world works. He has you work on class projects that I believe were very beneficial for a first-year experience. The one thing I strongly disliked about his class was that every class included a 30-minute monologue about how he knew what he was talking about.
Macarie is truly an amazing professor. He runs his class like a business, which is very beneficial to incoming freshmen. He is intimidating at first, but if you put aside some time to talk to him one-on-one, you'll see that he genuinely does care about his students. Read the textbook carefully, put in effort for your project, and you'll do fine.
He is incredibly set in his own opinion. He also does not care about the sexism women receive from their male peers in this class, saying that we need to learn how to work in the real world.
Catalin currently teaches INTB 3080, The Global Environment of Business, at UC. He is the worst teacher, and he posts grades late. He is very rude and tries to come off as funny or witty. Students are unsure if he's trying to be funny or just condescending.
Very weird, rude, entitled and pretentious in general. Half of class just feels like him trying to stoke his own immense ego and riding off of the work of others. Like dude, you're a marketing guy who teaches an introductory business class for freshman where you basically just dramatically and slowly parrot things we learned in high school, chill.
He is weird & at first it comes off as funny or relaxed. However every time I have emailed him about a question he responds in a very confessing way and is extremely rude. I would never take his class again it is just required for my degree. He grades extremely hard. He sends regular emails however does not answer basic questions that student have.
If you're a FRESHMAN and assigned with this prof, ask your advisor to change to a different professor if you do not want to get overwhelmed right on first year and bad grades. His MGMT courses has quizzes in person that are extremely hard to get full grades, and the projects with random classmates will drag your grade down.
DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR ANY CLASS ! His lecture is not boring, however, I've taken other professors and they all kinda nice when you ask for extra credits opportunities or grading improvement as they understand we're all struggle. His way of grading is either you get this or that, def no in-between, not generous to help students' grades go up.
He comes off funny and witty, however, at the end of the course, you'll find out how he's extremely ignorant about students' concerns and is very rude. Every time he replies to emails, he sounds very condescending and unempathetic. I studied day and night and still cannot get a good grades because of his toughness.
The rating mainly derives from his announcements, work requirement, and harsh test weight. I felt like I did really well, but the tests matter so much more than everything else. He also is really condescending in all of his messages. If you can take him online and just need this course credit you'll probably be ok. Tests are also proctored.
Professor Macarie is very condescending and not nice. He did not put a due date on one of our assignments this semester, so it did not show up on the to-do list, so a lot of students ended up failing the assignment. When I emailed him about it, he said that it was entirely my fault and there are absolutely no exceptions. I would not take him again.
I took INTB 3080 online, he was a tough grader of CEA assignments but other than that he seemed like a nice guy and was easy to communicate via email, he responded within 24 hours.
Uses so many emojis for instructions it's hard to find the point and read. I turned a CEA assignment more than 24 hours before the due date and he graded it almost immediately. He said my response had no value and it was sloppy. I asked if I could edit it considering it was still more than 24 hours before the due date and he said no.
International business is really not this complicated. He over-complicates and makes the class extremely unfun with strict grading criteria. If you are taking an online class because you just want to get it out of the way. This class was both inconvenient and unnecessarily difficult. The professor proctors almost any assignment he possibly can.
Do not take him if you think you will ever need to talk to him. He is aggressive and rude and has a very big ego. He makes international business much harder than it needs to be and is a tough grader who does not even follow his own rubric. Makes me question who UC is hiring.
He fits as much into the class as possible. The material is not the main point, he cares for every one of his students getting as much out of his class as possible. He has a big ego, he pokes fun, he's loud, and can be annoying if you are not open to his style, but if you open up to him and try in his class he will help you.
