Super nice, helpful, willing to help her students. Tests are not difficult. Her online quizzes really help you study. If you can, take her for lab too!
The positives: she is super nice, her test at not that bad but you must read the book. Some of the questions online are part of the test. The negatives: she basically reads the powerpoints..so boring...she really doesn't tell you what to study. I have an A so far,so is deffinetly possibel but you must keep up!!READ THE BOOK!!
she is very helpful, her test are not hard, that is if you read the chapters before every class and do the assignments online and on time. HOT!!!!! nice tattoo on her hip also so its something to look at if your bored in class.
She is awesome and her quizes are super general!!!!!! Her tests are still pretty easy but I believe you should still study. I took her over the summer and she was very helpful.
One of the best for sure. Personally wise she is very sweet and helpful, always in a good mood and never disrespects. Academically she is amazing. I loved every part of her class, one of my two favorite classes of all time. Study what teaches and you are sure to learn! P.S. I took her Bio Lab class.
She is a great teacher. Very clear to understand, Her exams and quizzes are quite easy. She really enjoys the subject and is very passionate about wanting you to actually grasp everything instead of forgetting the material when the class finishes.
Love this professor...quizzes are easily passed by cramming 5 mins before class, tests are great, super nice. Totally recomend her!
She is the best teacher for learning, cares about your grades, is very clear, tests and quizes are easy to pass.
Sweet and is as everyone has said about her except I'd like for people to know that she is more like an independent-study teacher. If you need to understand and you need a good teacher to TEACH you, you will have a tougher time. She gives homework online,& in class goes over the slides, some time for Q%A and that's it, there is no hand-holding.
annoying annoying annoying. Her lectures dont make sense and shes super boring. I failed, don't take this class!!! ever!!
Horrible, and super hard, i was a 4.00 till i got her.Dont take care even do i did good on the classs.
She is a great professor. Always available and willing to help u pass.Attendance is mandatory and u don't need the book bcuz she emails u the powerpoints for each chapter and the study guides plus the book is available on masteringbiology.
i had her for lab.shes super nice knows her stuff. and its an easy class.1 lab report.i recommend her
She changed my desire for bannin bio classes from education....super easy epla na tions of everything she gives u lot of ways that help u understand the material....n make u wanna learn about bio.....
super fun class, learn a lot. great teacher, and a cute one. :)
the class is boring and im not a science major, but she gives A LOT of extracredit! and the exams r super easy , if u do the online test trust me u can do the regular exams! she is a really good professor!
She's great but her class is NOT easy. Unless you have a light-load, I don't suggest your take her just yet. Definitely not for six weeks either (my mistake.) Biology is incredibly boring but you NEED to study to pass her class. Very good professor otherwise.
This is one of those classes that if you miss one day, you're lost forever. You just gotta pay attention in class and take notes and she makes it clear what you need to study. I NEVER touch the book and the online assignments are really easy and they actually help with studying. She's strict but she's a pretty great teacher.
Really AMAZING teacher. She's clear, helpful, and is flexible with test dates (Like if you have an appointment or something). She genuinely loves her subject too. Take her. Take her. TAKE HER.
Best bio teacher at MDC!!!!!! =) she really loves her plants...lol! come to her lectures, listen and take notes and there should be no reason why you shouldn't pass with an A+
AWESOME TEACHER! Def recommend!Things you need to know: 4 tests, finals optional, there is a 10 page essay on a theme you selected.. gives you option of doing 10 hours of service learning and writing a 1 pg reflection paper. For every extra hour done extra 1 point. Up to 10 hrs. Shes VERY helpful. AMAZING. DONT need the book she emails slides. :)
Great class I have to say. For one Im not even into Biology and the class was enjoyable. She takes roll everyday though but if you keep your grades up she doesnt mind if you miss some days. I reccommend doing the masteringbiology and youll be set for her exams. easy A if you just do your work.
Honestly, I suck at science but because of her, I got an A! :D She's wonderful! You HAVE to take her! That's all I can say :)
She is very nice but does not teach anything. She reviews for the tests and you can get an A but was a very stressful and frustrating semester. I did not learn anything and she is disorganized. She does help you if needed and is very approachable but did not enjoy the class at all.
Had her for Bio Lab, she's a sweetheart and really knowledgeable in her field. She will help you whenever you need and is a fair grader.
Bio Lab: she's extemely clear in her lectures. she absolutely loves her field and her energy makes the class enjoyable. she gives a short quiz for every chapter but just study before class and youll be good. love her :)
i highly recommend her. I took her class on line and i had not stress. Modules never close, 3 attemps to each quizz and module test. I was relax as never in this class. also i learned a lot.
She is a nice professor. She is intelligent and she will help you during her office hours. Her class it's not a piece of cake but if you read the chapters ,you will do good. You will have a lot of opportunities to improve your grade by doing good in masteringbiology. I recommend her.
She is a really good professor. She explains in a way that is easy to understand and on top of that she's helpful. You do have to study for her classes, its not that very easy to get and A but its not hard neither, make sure u study and u'll be fine.
She explains everything sooooo good and she has sooo much talet in teaching. Her class is not cake but I promise you for this subject you need a teacher who loves their students and want them to learn and pass. This teacher is it. Shes so passionate in her class and for the guys...shes cute ;)
Great Professor!!! Took her online and she was very helpful when I had a question. Quizzes and Test are moderately hard. Gives a lot of extra credit so that helps your grade. I suggest taking her.
Great professor!! Took her online she was very helpful with HW and answered all my questions in a timely manner. Gives extra credit which helps with your grade overall suggest taking this course.
She is an amazing professor! She knows and loves what she teaches.Tests come off PowerPoint and textbook. Easy A if you can make it to class everyday and study the work a little.
She is the biggest pain ever! dont take her!
She's wonderful!! Not many professors or teachers show concern in the advancement of their students with the kindness, and most of all, the patience that she does. Her tests are easy IF you study what she teaches in class. She's also very knowledgable in her field. Great great GREAT professor!! Take her... Trust me
A very sweet and intelligent professor, her tests are easy as long as you study and do the mastering biology pre-tests. She is very helpful and explains things well. I didn't buy the book and was able to get an A in all the tests by studying the power points and the pre-tests in mastering biology
Very nice professor who knows really well what she is teaching. She is very passionate in this field aswell (biology). I had a great time in her class and feel the education was worth it. She knows how to teach, recommended. When I had her she was pregnant, if she ever reads this I hope all went well and wish her the best of luck!!
Great teacher! Really cares about her students and makes biology easy to understand. Assigns online homework which counts as 30% of your grade, 4 tests (Final is not mandatory) and attendance counts as 10% of your final grade. Really nice teacher, highly recommend her.
She is the sweetest! I hated science & she made me like it. She makes the class interesting, understandable, answers every question and helps a lot. She provides powerpoints so you have access to it. You need to study but tests are easy. Tests are 50Qs and 5 extra cred Qs. You don't need to take the final if you pass all 4 tests. I got an A.
i took a mini term with her and honestly she was amazing. you will understand everything, she answers all your questions and is super helpful. by the end of the class you'll have learned a lot and love the fact of biology.
This class was fun and challenging. Since it's biology you have to fully understand the material to pass the quizzes and tests. Lots of reading, power points, mp3 tutors, interactive practice lessons. Proctored midterm and final. A couple of discussions. Extra credit opportunity. Prompt helpful responses to e-mails. Easy A if you do the work.
lets not all forget you're taking bio here so no matter what, you have to work for the grade. but if you suck at it like i do TAKE HER! she explains things in 50 diff. way TILL YOU GET IT. but honestly, IF YOU DONT TRY YOU WONT PASS. the classes home work is on line & its a great review for the 5 test (final included) & she drops the lowest grade!!
She's so sweet! Explains everything until its crystal clear. 4 tests (60%), research paper and presentation (15%), hw (25%). Her study guides are very helpful. Read her powerpoints, read the book, and you'll be fine. You have to put in some effort to really review and understand the material to get a good grade.
Greatest Professor ever!!!! easiest virtual class! her quizzes and test are worth a lot, gives a lot of extra credit that will help you boost your midterm and final. She responds to emails and she's very nice! TAKE HER!!!
The best science teacher! SO nice and you can tell she really loves what she does. Relevant, light homework (online with a $60 access code) and easy 50q tests with 5 extra cred. I never had to use the book once. She cares a lot about her students and gives them all the help she can manage. :D love her!!!
Best. Biology lab. prof. ever!!! Super friendly. loves teaching, explains well, kind, fair, prepares students for tests well. Study guides & powerpoints online. organized and engaging. Fun!!!
Prof. A comes with plenty of work. There is a quiz every week on the lab. You must submit powerpoint presentations almost every week with your group. Her midterm involves plenty of studying. She is very picky about the work as well. She is nice though.
I learned SO MUCH from this prof. She's incredible, has so much passion, and really wants you to succeed. I've never been good at science and I passed with an A. She made me love the subject. I recommend SO HIGHLY. TAKE HER.
Awesome professor! If you show up, do the work, and follow detail you will have no problem passing with an A. I highly recommend taking her.
Good teacher however I had some trouble finding the class interesting. Even though she's a good teacher she doesn't really make the topics interesting. However, if you pay attention and do all the online homeworks you will pass easily. She's very understanding and sweet and cares about her students.
amazing!!!!!!!!!!!
She is an amazing human being and professor. Her class isn't a piece of cake, but it is passable and she is willing to always help her students! I loved her, definitely recommend her to anyone and I would also take her again
For someone who was dreading to take this class, who does not care for biology, I'm happy with the outcome. I was never good at biology or anything related, but I finished with an A! Study suggestion: read power points she sends. I did for 3 tests. 2 were 90, one was 82 (only studied for 2 days), and I didn't use the study guide. The other 2: 8762
the lectures arent the most interesting but this class is easy so long as you do the assignments and pay attention in class.
Now here is a Biology professor with a heart. Her class is open and clear, where one is free to learn. She explains the subject thoroughly and you will see in tests only what she has taught you. Test, service-learning, presentation, online work, some extra credit. I learned so much without even being a science major. Her class just works.
Loved this professor. She is so sweet and cares about the students. Her lectures are clear and easy to follow, but the class is VERY long and she usually uses up the entire time. All the grades are on Angel so you can see what grade you have at all times.
I practice for the midterm, and also I did the midterm pretest review of 129 questions, just for nothing. When I took the misterm test none of the midterm pretest questions were there. I would get the same grade studying or not. Therefore, I would not recomend to take biology online.
Professor Aristizabal was an amazing professor here at Miami Dade College. She is very skilled at what she does and is very brilliant! She taught biology in a way in which made everyone in class understand. The homework was quite tedious but it was essential to passing. I definitely recommend her!
Bio is not easy regardless of the professor. She answers your emails on time. Tests are hard, but she's very clear that the practice tests are not the same as on the exams. She curves both exams, takes down your lower grades, and gives 3 extra points in every exam for completing mastering. Nice professor!! Love her!! I'd take her again!!
The best bio class for none-science majors. She is very good at explaining the lecture material to insure you do good in her many tests. All you need to past her many simple tests is too study the powerpoints she gives you. You will be require to do online homework that is simple so you will need to buy an ACCESS CODE.
Great professor! You MUST read and study to pass her tests. She gives homework for every chapter due at the day of the test. There is a group community service project but you can opt out and do it by yourself. The textbook is mandatory!
the best professor I've came across when it comes to explaining the material for all her students to understand. Nothing on her tests will surprise you because its either on the PP slides or she discussed it in class. DO THE ONLINE HW AND THE SERVICE LEARNING PROJECT THEY HELP YOUR GRADE. And the fact that she looks adorable cant hurt either.
Professor Aristizabal is a SWEETHEART! Her lectures are clear and she makes the class very interesting. A lot of quizzes but if you study and use the study guides you will easily pass the class. Definitely would take her again, very caring and understanding, she will work with you!
Bio is not an easy subject for most people. Great professor, always there for you. Six Tests, cumulative final that replaces lowest grade, online HW, and a service learning project that requires ten hours of community service. (Its really not as bad as it seems).
Loved this professor. She was nice, and gave extra credit questions on the tests. She splits up the chapters into about 6 different tests to make it easier for you as well as to give you more chances. Definitely would take her again.
It's an overall easy course. She's really nice and really understanding. Passionate about biology. Attendance does matter though, even for classes where she just lectures. Notes aren't necessary due to her study guides online. I would recommend taking her, unless you like to skip class a lot.
Took as Summer B. She is a great Prof. I def recommend her. I would take her again. I wish more Profs were like her. The class went very fast due to being 6 wks, but she taught well and made it doable. She gave study guides which really helped for tests. She is fair and clear. Not an easy class but if you attend, listen and study you will do well.
Professor Aristizabal is great. I took summer B and despite the class lasting just 6 weeks I learnt a lot, very interesting class. She is awesome, understandable, and professional. I strongly recommend do all homeworks and be constant in your studies. Good luck!!!
This professor is horrible. The tests are really hard even if you study she makes really confusing questions. :(
She doesn't reply the emails. She puts the review for exam the day before. She is awful.
Proctored midterm AND final- each worth 10%. No discussion posts. Assignments in MasteringBio and BioBeyond both worth 30%. 5 Unit exams-Difficult -Read the book. Prof Aristizabal is nice but takes her time to reply to emails and she's not very involved. Her study guides for midterm and final are useless. You are better off using Quizlet to study.
This was a really complete class, I learned a lot about biology. She uses many methods to teaching the material such as a pretty well-written book, interactive videos, great examples in her lectures, hands-on volunteer work.. It might seem like a lot of work but it is very well worth the time. I appreciate dedicated teachers like this professor.
So, this class was very hard work. Really a class where you have to study you're butt off. But she is a great professor, she made me want to learn more about ecological issues. If you're looking for a class to gain something in. This is it! A lot of exams, practically back to back. But if you use the powerpoint and study guide you'll do good.
Homework is 20% of grade and tests are 80. Final is optional. I took her for the 12 week mini term and I think she's pretty easy, the tests have mostly memory questions. Bio itself isn't easy but compared to other teachers her class is probably easier to get an A in. The homework is mostly all I used to study.
She's very passionate about what she teaches. I took her for 6-week summer term so it was very fast pace, but easy to follow. She loves questions and encourages students to speak in her class. She made bio interesting and passable.
VERY HONEST REVIEW! She has four exams, the last two exams are HARD. The final exam is optional, if you got a very good grade on your final exam she drops your lowest test grade. You must read read read everything. You must get straight A's in all of your HW cause it helps a lot with your final grade.
Really enjoyed her class. Lots of resources to succeed (powerpoints and study guides!) which made a huge difference. The course was reading intensive. Great professor, really glad I took her to build a foundation of biology with.
Worst professor ever. She doesn't even know how to explain certain topics. You'll fall sleep in her classes. And exactly, she only reads the powerpoint. Her reviews are a joke because she puts on them absolutely all the content that appears on the book. She tries to look professional to avoid criticisms. Don't take her, unless you're an expert.
Ridiculous that MDC has teachers like her. Avoid her as possible. Her lecture are really far away from the content she puts on tests. If you don't want to see your GPA goes down don't take her.
Worst Prof. I have ever had in my entire life. She is extremely condescending, rude, and not helpful at all. When I asked him a question about the course she replied something to the effect of "Did you read the syllabus? Try that maybe." and made NO ATTEMPT to answer me. She gives you grades after a week because she is supposedly very busy or sick.
I passed the class with a B but if you ask me if I learned something the answer is NO. Don't expect that from her class. In other words, try to take another professor if you don't want to be suffering during the whole semester and being between a B and C.
don't buy the book, you'll just need the code. A lot of online HW through connect but fairly easy. The study guide is nothing like the test and the test are kinda hard. You can do service learning instead of the final! She's very caring and understanding when it comes to your personal problems. As long as you do the HW you'll pass the class.
Prof. Catalina is amazing, super nice and sweet and doesnt mind if you turn in late assignments, as kong as you do them! She gives a study guide for midterm and final, and though it was an online class, she quickly responded to all of my email. She is the best virtual prof I've ever had! Definitely recommend her
I honestly hate science so taking this class was a bit of a dread since I had no interest in it. She's a very good professor though as she is very dedicated. Test are really hard if you don't study, study guides do not really help much. Do not need physical book, just do homework on connect. Either service learning hours/project or a final.
She's this type of professor that likes to lie to herself. She puts some questions from easy notecards (20 over 45) but because she doesn't teach at all, you literally suffer to answer the rest of the questions. If you're lucky and you have where she takes the questions from you won't have any problem but if not, take her clase alone and be ready.
Dr Aristizábal is such a great professor. She is on top of her email and any issues that you may come across. The online homework helps so much! DO IT! The exams are difficult. We had 4 test and instead of taking a final, we could do 10 hours of community service. Which is great for an easy A. The study guides didnt help much.
Doesn't make the material difficult. Uses Mcgraw Hill Connect Smart Book, which the online homework, reading, and quizzes are done. Book is really not needed as when you buy the code to do the homework it has it online. She also had the PowerPoint online for you on blackboard. Some in class activities, Service learning or take cumulative final.
Not an easy class. 4 exams, final is optional. Didn't find study guides much helpful, instead just go to Easy Notecards and study from there. I actually loved how she teaches and explains in class but that didn't help me in the test as much. DO THE HOMEWORK! It's online and its easy and it will definitely help you. She gives you enough time for it.
Excellent professor, she takes her time in making sure you understand all the material
She's kind of boring, but she's generally nice. Pretty big liberal too, kind of to the point where it sucks since classes might get preachy during political events. Lots of homework.
Professor Aristizabal is both a fantastic professor and a caring person. Professor Aristizabal is straight-forward and does not try to fool her students on the exams. The homework and online quizzes are great practice for what to expect on the exams. Professor Aristizabal is living proof that it is not necessary to be mean in order to teach well.
Took this class online. A LOT OF HOMEWORK! You have to buy an online book. 2 modules of homework for grade. Quiz every week and a chapter test every 2 weeks. a lot of homework. Procured midterm and final.
Super sweet, lectures every class. Easy online quizzes and only 5 tests. Easy to get an A AS LONG AS you do the work and show up, she counts attendance every class.
4 test, quizzes and homework and an optional final that replaces your lowest grade. Its honestly not as bad as it seems, she is very nice and will always try to help you out no matter what. All I did was study from her study guides, and watched all the videos in the book and finished with an A! Plus did good on quizzes and homework, it helps!!
Class is amazing. Prof. Catalina explains everything so easily. She has mastering in Biology. A quiz on Blackboard for every chapter. She gives study guides for her tests. 4 tests 1 optional final that replaces your lowest grade. Test are easy if you do homework and quizzes. Don't cheat on homework otherwise you will have to study more for the test
I would definitely take again. She knows people take this class for a requirement so she dumbs it down so people can understand.
Such a good teacher. makes everything very easy to understand. Do the study guides for test & online hw and youll pass
Overall this wasn't a difficult class. Class is just taking notes from the powerpoint and she usually goes more into detail on certain topics. She's a very helpful professor and tries her best to make sure we understand the topic. There were 4 exams with an optional final. Her study guides are extremely helpful!!
She does give a lot of homework, buts its through Connect so, its relatively simple. And she is lenient on deadlines and will update any past due work at the end of the semester. I believe it was 5 exams and an optional final, which I did because I didnt do the service learning, but you should. Im not the best student, but she makes bio easy.
She is amazing, I came to this class thinking I was going to fail but she is so good at her job, explain everything so clear and you will never get bored. You do have to study for the test but I you pay attention in the lecture youll be fine. One of the best professor Mdc has.
I LOVE Prof. Aristizabal. I struggled with bio in high school, however, the way she explains makes everything much easier. You can tell she loves what she does, and it makes a difference. Other than that, she is a very kind, caring, and a cool person. Take her class! Especially her lab, if you get a chance to. One of my favorite professors ever!
Very tough course but possible to pass if in class and studying. Awesome professor but a lot to learn.
Great lectures and makes the information very simple. Online quizzes for homework are very easy and most of the questions end up being on the test. Study guides for each test are very good reviews that go over everything that will be tested on. Drops lowest test grade. Final project is easy as long as you dont procrastinate.
One of the best classes! Everything about this class was amazing! Shes so good! Assignments are fine! Midterm and Finals required but her study guides are amazing! Very recommend class!
I took her class online and it wasn't hard. She is super attentive to your needs and if given the circumstance you can't complete an assignment she will help you out. Her class is very heavy on work, weekly quizzes, mastering biology ,module test and a midterm and a final (proctored). She does offer extra credit. I would highly recommend.
Very easy and clear to what you need to study for her exams (which are basically made up of the online quizzes and the study guide she provides). Some in-class assignments and a civic action project, nothing too crazy and was actually very easy to do.
Her class was not hard but you do need to study if you want to pass. There are a few tests but no final or midterm. Every chapter has a quiz online which is very easy. She has study guides to help for test. Good professor.
Professor Aristazabal is one of the best professors at Miami - Dade college, she knows her material, and makes biology easy, she explains everything in a way you understand everything, I took her research lab and shes always there to help you out !
I took bio during summer A with Prof. Aristizabal, and it was such an easy and fun class. Class was online due to Covid-19, but it was not hard at all. Be sure to do ALL of your homework on Connect, and participate in discussion boards!! There's only two or three discussion boards. Homework is easy, and the quizzes are very helpful for tests :)
She is so SWEET, teaches really good makes sure you understand her lectures. Test aren't so hard as long as you pay attention (her class isn't boring). She cares a lot and wants you to pass.
super caring and actually cares about her students. will repeat lecture until you understand it and makes the class easy going. although during pandemic a group project was mandatory. overall, easy A and is duable
Best Professor ever!! Response to emails quickly and really understands. Her teaching is amazing. Was definitely an easy A for me.
Best Professor ever!! Really know how to teach and will respond to emails quickly. Homework was not heavy at all. Tests were easy if you did the homework and saw the lectures.
Super nice professor & explains concepts really well!
I took this in Spring 2020, she is a great professor! She really explains the material really well and will answer any questions/doubts you might have. The tests are very straightforward if you read the material and write notes. No HW, but there are some simple in-class assignments and a group project. This is also a global learning course.
Prof. Aristizabal's BSC2010 lecture was just fine. It wasn't anything special but it wasn't bad either. It was just fine. The lectures were easy to follow. Though at times, it felt a bit rushed (happened a lot actually). She is extremely accommodating and at times, sweet. She tried her best even if it was during COVID, so I will give her that.
An amazing professor would take her again as she is a caring professor and wants you to pass. Easy assignment and is extremely friendly, however, one thing I would say is to beware of the final project, although it was easy, it did catch me off guard as it did take some time. Overall this teacher is one in a million.
She was awesome. Gave the textbook for free, limited homework assignments, and no final. There were only 2 tests for her class and a few quizzes with 2 attempts each. She is extremely caring and understanding. If you dont enjoy group projects, beware because you will have one at the end and various group assignments throughout.
I just took BSC1005 with Prof. Aristizabal. The class was stress free. Not a lot of work to keep you busy but necessary work. I did had to emailed her a couple of times and she answered me. There are 2 proctered test but she gives you study guide and they don't count as much. If u are scare of Biology like I was this is your teacher.
Took this class in the summer online, the class are super long and she really wants you to participate in EVERYTHING. It a little to much at some points where there is a lot of work to be turned in during class time. She is really nice and all but the class itself has a lot of work.
Super easy and chill class. The professor is really nice and just wants you to understand basic biology that might help you in the future. If you're bad at biology, just do the optional study guides. Midterm and Final Exam are not weighted heavily and are exactly like study guide. A few group worksheets and quick and easy quizzes online.
Dr. Aristizabal is ICONIC. Truly cares about students and LOVES biology. There is a lot of material covered in BSC2010 but she does a good job of giving the overall picture. 4 exams, MasteringBio assigments, & Blackboard quizzes. But the work is manageable and the exams don't focus on small details and help you learn the material. LOVED this class.
BSC2010L was a research based class in groups, which took you through the whole research process. Dr. Aristizabal is passionate about research. She is helpful and takes time out of her day to help and address any concern you might have. Make sure you have a good group, as there is a heavy workload to be split evenly. Overall, you will learn a lot.
Honestly, most people who take this course just need the science credit for their degree but do yourself a favor and pick another course/professor. She treats the course as if you are a science/bio major, assigns a bunch of group work, and gives a midterm/final study guide with 150+ questions when the actual test is only 50. Not worth the headache.
Weekly homework on Pearson My lab, consists of 18ch,2 assignments & 1 quiz ea. easy but do not leave for last minute, it is time consuming & she will not accept late work. 5 unit exams. midterm & final are on lock down browser. I had a personal emergency during midterm & she was considerate to allow me in retaking it. Do the work & pass
She's Ok, you need to study a lot
She speaks more about her kid than the actual class, has study guides for tests that have barely anything to do with the test. She is a tough grader and changes guidelines for projects last minute. If you have time to change classes save your money and do it. There are two tests in the semester and they are from chapter 1-4 and the other 5-21
While she is caring and wants for students to learn, she ultimately goes against the students by having an insane amount of assignments, from learning modules, book hw, quizzes, and group hw. study guides are pointless. an A is attainable, but she is very demanding, especially bad in spring (college apps season) had imp classes outside of schedule.
Professor Aristizabal is a sweet lady but it's extremely difficult to contact her about questions or concerns. She's not the best at her lectures and you'll end up trying to teach yourself the topics as she skips a lot through her PowerPoints. She gives weekly quizzes and two big tests. Don't take blended as she will ignore staying online.
If u have a basic grasp of bio youre good. Doesnt cover everything during class bc she stops to answer Qs. No problems emailing her. Only used ppts for study guides. I'd email her/YT for further explanation. Treat study guides as concepts to understand. Take her if u really want to learn bio& ace it on the PCAT than simply memorizing for the A (:
This professor is obsessed with group assignments, she will turn any simple assignment into group work. If you only want a biology credit this class is not for you, she goes EXTREMELY in depth. She gives you like 12 mins per quiz and her final is proctored. I couldn't wait to get this class over with to be honest. Good luck!
She is a great professor for a very dense course, there's a lot of information in the class that can be hard to manage at times, but her pre-lecture assignments helped me prepare for the exams and understand the subject matter. This class is mainly based on consistent effort throughout the whole semester and grading reflects that.
Professor Aristizabal is one of the best professors at MDC. She values your education and is a very understanding person. She will build a bond with you through out the semester and she will help you even after the semester ends. She loves her students. There is homework and a project but there is no Test, Quizes, Midterm, and Final.
Dr. Aristizabal is an extremely caring professor who cares about and values education and has a passion for biology. I also had her for bsc 2010L and loved being in her lab. she's very open and very encouraging to all her students. just be sure to complete all your hw, i received all As in the exams but did not complete all my hw and got an 88
The class is for non-majors so off the bat no one is thrilled to be there or WANTS to finish the semester remembering what she taught. Her lectures are tedious. Her study guides are the worst part of her teaching style because they aren't test-specific questions, but multiple concepts that are pretty broad in terms of what she can ask on the tests.
I LOVED THIS PROFESSOR. She made me interested in biology although I am an art student. A lot of my classmates did not like her study guides because they weren't direct answers, however, to me, her study guides were very easy and in the PowerPoint. It helped me understand the material better. As long as you put in effort you will pass! DONT BE LAZY
She was nice, provided good lectures, and the material in the textbook was more than enough to get an A. I recommend to read the chapters + make quizlets. I did not study much for her class, I spent just 20 hours a month/3 hours a week on biology (I record my stats), and got an A in every exam. Her exams are based on the textbook, so read it!
Even if you flop the midterm just pass everything else and you're fine. There's a disc. post every week but it's literally SO EASY so just do it, they're a big part of your grade. There's quite a bit of homework but if you structure your time well you can do it quickly. Don't procrastinate AND she leaves the modules unlocked so you can work ahead.
She is amazing! She cares about everyones grade and wants you do to well. She gives study guides, practice tests, and quizzes for each test and they help ALOT.
She is a great professor. All the tests were based off the homework, make sure you do them and just study off of them and you will do great on the tests. There were two homework assignments each week. She would give a lecture than a small non-graded quiz to see if you learned anything. She honestly just wants the best for her students.
She was very clear and made sure to go over subjects if she noticed most of the class didn't understand them. The final was optional, and she gave you two attempts at the quizzes on Canvas. The only thing that I didn't like was that during lectures she would speed through some of the slides, making it difficult to take notes. But overall very good.
she's super great sometimes she speeds through power point slides but she has them uploaded on canvas so it's easier for you
Professor Aristizabal really cares about her students' success. The workload can be heavy, but engaging with the resources like the textbook, study guides, and Unstuck study makes a big difference. Overall, a challenging yet rewarding class.
Though her class is difficult to pass, she is so easy to communicate with and will make sure you complete assignments on time. I had issues with midterm exams and she was understanding and lenient. Communicate with her and you will be good to go.
I felt comfortable in her class, but the lectures were boring. It was hard for me to keep engaged and noticed the same for the rest of my classmates who would either be on their phones or playing games. She was not very good at teaching the material. She makes you work with your classmates and gives lots of tests along with a long difficult project
Professor Aristizabal is a great professor, and is clearly passionate in her field. The class can be difficult, but there are opportunities that can boost your grade. Consisted of four exams, a group project, and pearson assignments. She is also one of the most understanding and caring professors I've met.
I took her last semester, awful. She flies through slides extremely quick making you not even be able to take notes. Her exams are about 50-60 questions and don't relate to anything from class. She writes things on the board but they aren't really helpful in my opinion. Homework is long and pointless. Not sure how she got any good reviews.
This professor made biology a breeze. If you just show up to class and pay attention you'll easily pass. Grades are based on Pearson assignments which can be lengthy but *actually* help you learn and it isn't just busy work. She explains things very well and sets clear expectations for tests and such, this class is great for visual learners too
Professor Aristizabal made this six week summer term a breeze. She genuinely cares about students passing her class even when they may not have a heavy interest in biology. Her tests were fairly easy as long as you did the study guide, with homework as a big part of your grade. I would take Professor Aristizabal again any day.
Crazy long homework, tests and quizzes are 60 questions long, crazy long project missed first class and found out we had a project last week of school.
It was a good amount of memorizing things, lots of tests, lots of homework, and it just felt too overwhelming all at once.
She was a nice person, but her work is super tedious and exhausting. She assigns lots of homework per week, and her tests/or quizzes are 30-50 questions long. She reads off a PowerPoint at lightning speed and it gets annoying when you're trying to learn. Whenever she gives us a study guide to work on in class, she gives you little time to do it… :/
She is nice, comprehensive and I enjoyed class with her. I 100% recommend.
A pretty good teacher at MDC. Her lectures are not super helpful but maybe if you knew nothing. Tests are all multiple choice and she drops the lowest test grade if you take the final. The homework was long and time consuming and the tests were about average for a STEM class but a bit hard for a community college biology class.
