Great teacher, very helpful and smart. Not an easy class but she helps a lot.
Ms. Yang was a good teacher she really tries to help her students out if they need any help. She teaches excatly what is going to be on the test. She gives quizes every week but you know whats going to be on then. On test she gives you a review and that is were she gets her test questions from. Good teacher hard subject.
one of the teachers that i would seriously never take again. very incomprehensive.. and so not worth my time.. but it is all up to you. good luck!
I really enjoyed her teaching style. Math is not my best subject, and I did very well in her class. I enjoyed her teaching style, plus she is very willing to help you understand the material. I will definitely be taking her again in the future!
This teacher only vomits data and could care less if you get it or not. In order to pass her class, you must attend each class, do all the homework, occasional quizes and daily classwork. This teacher overall teaches what you need to know, but if you fall behind, that's your problem. Overall, she needs to find a different job she actually likes.
I had Ms. Yang for Math 9, 10 and 11. She was nicer in math 9 than 11. She does have favorites. Fortunately I was of one but I felt sorry for the ones that weren't because they weren't able to get the help they deserved. She is nice but all homework is due tons of homework! Quizes when ever she feels like it. Isn't alway there for you.
I would not recommend her. Some lectures leave you confused when you do homework because she can skip steps without notice. She quizzes at random. In addition, on quizzes and exams, she marks off for doing more work than necessary, even though steps are in lectures, and also where there's the right work, but not the right answer, and get a zero.
she expects you to know it already. i suck at math and managed a B. nice to talk to as a person. a good bit of homework. SOmetimes random and leaves you hanging. a test every chapter. i dont think i would take her for upper math classes.. shes pretty hard.
I had Ms. Yang for 9, 10, 11, 14. Despite what others have said, if you attend class, do your homework, ask questions, and take notes and STUDY them for the exams, you should have no problem passing the class. There is no way I could have passed these classes without all her support and encourage ment! She was always there for me and even via email
I had her for college algebra. Not recomended by any means because she talks too fast and has a tendency to skip steps/miscalculate. By all means, supplement her lectures with the textbook because it is much clearer and to the point. If your hard working enough to do the homework (for understanding) then you will do fine on the tests.
Ms. Yang is hard if your taking her math 115 class because 50 percent of her tests is part of your grade and you get 3 chances to do test corrections and refuses to grade your quiz if you have one or 2 mistakes so if your a slow learner dont take this class with her.
Do not take her. Her class is extremly hard. She is insensitive to those that aren't quick learners. She assigns tons of homework and has random quizzes. She does allow 3 test corrections, which are very time consuming but it does help to boost your grade a bit. She is strict, demanding and rude. Her exams are tough.
shes a very cool teacher, but daaamn shes hard..
Stats is a very hard class, but Ms. Yang's terrible teaching skills make it extremely hard. She goes too fast, confuses students.Out of 35 students only 10 were left and the class average was a D grade. Not sure how she is still teaching. Students need to get together and file complaint with math dean.Look up her web page on oc website & see grades.
Must warn you, don't take this teacher for Stats.Exams are heavily weighted:HW=10% quiz=10% four Exams=50% Final Exam(cumalitive)=30%. Does not show any compassion for students, lectures out of a book and makes lots of mistakes on board, very sadistic personality.Only great seasoned teachers should teach Statistics, and she is neither. Not profesional.
What can I say???? The word HARD! Massive home work, she could be nice if she wants to be she is not!
I'm not sure what the last two reviews are about, but Ms Yang is very helpful. Yes there is a lot of homework. She assigns homework that is in addition to what is in the book and gives a review for each exam. If you had bother to attend class instead of complaining, then you would of figured that ALL exam questions are in the review or extra hw.
Shes a jerk. I had her for prealgebra. She doesnt let you use the calculator. She expects you to add, subtract, multiply, and divide by hand. The subject is WAY easy, but she made it feel like a nightmare. She gives out huge numbers on her tests and it gets really tedious doing math by the millions digits. Its so retarded. I got a D in her class.
I personally cannot stand this teacher. I have always done GREAT in math, but I like to ask questions because at this level math if you don't understand a section, you're pretty much screwed because it all goes hand in hand. She makes you feel dumm if you have questions and she doesn't even explain herself thoroughly. I would NEVER recommend her.
Stay away from this teacher! She is not a great instructor! If it was between her and a crappy job. I say take the crappy job for a semester until you find a better math class than this one.
horrible teacher. DONT take her.i can not even express how horrible she is!!!
Not a very good teacher whats so ever, not helpful and rude. You ask for help during class and ask how she did an example, she simply rejects you and does not answer your question. The ONLY good thing about her class is that she lets you correct three tests, other than that not a good teacher. I would not recommend her.
she is very rude, not a good teacher at all, doesn't want to help you at all if you dont understand something she states idont care and i dont know.
Teaching style is fast paced and harsh.Shows no empathy if you don't understand.Answers your questions with questions to make you think, but it does not work if you don't know how to even start a problem. Do the homework & study the concepts at the end of each chapter in the book & you'll do fine. The exam questions are off the classw, homew &quizes.
I took the class in high school, but decided to take it again...i regreted it because she was no help. When asked a direct question she could help you, but half the time she made us do the problems as aclass, but wouldn't really help if we got stuck.
Pre algebra. Have never been good at math. For the first time i get it. I have an A in a class i have never passed before in high school. She does not let you use calculators because she want you to understand the basics before you move on to the next level. will take her again.
Hard class with a hard subject. Tests are exactly what you cover in the class and the final is off the test so as long as you study the tests(she gives the right answers) you will pass. Homework is a must.
She was very rude to students as if teaching was wasting her time. when students asked questions she would responde: you don't know? and refer them to another student. when giving class problems she would give only a few seconds and then ask: who's done? you guys aren't done? DO NOT take her class. very rude.
very rude. does not like or wish to help students. will not answer questions and looks at you like you are an idiot. DO NOT take her classes.
Teaches too fast. Does not help to clarify. Accent makes it hard to understand sometimes. WOULD NOT TAKE!!!
VERY RUDE. Does not want to help you. Take Mr.Black instead!
"Run Forrest Run!"...stay away!
Don't take her class, very rude teacher. She wont explain the homework problems clearly.
Took this class in the summer, NOT A GOOD IDEA! first five weeks were fairly easy, but then got harder. my Avg test scores were 80%, quizes suck if u dont study! if u do the study guides, u have at least a C in the test! I think i deserved a B at least in that class, but she isnt a very good teacher. She cant explain. And isnt nice either.
BAD:Be prepared to teach yourself, attend every session as theres lots of quizzes, she speaks too fast, her favorite answer is "You tell me, i'm the one that already has the degree.", GOOD: Quizzes are from examples & HW, tests are from HW and quizzes, doesn't collect HW, doesn't take attendance, BOTTOM LINE:If you do your HW you will do fine :)
a lot of homework and quizes
Not bad at all. It is easier to take notes from her than the text. ASK questions if you're not sure! She will explain again if u ask. Reviews r the quizzes. Quizzes n hw are exams.Exams are the final. The work is not hard if u study and ask!. She always responds to emails for help. She doesnt say it, but gives lots of random extra credit at the end
You're not in high school any more. You must do the assigned HW and work out any problems in class with the help of your classmates. That helps her see the class' understanding of material. Quizzes are from HW, tests are from quizzes and HW. Form a study group to help prepare for tests. If you spend the time studying, your will get a good grade.
You must do all of the HW because the tests and quizzes come from it. Very hard and somewhat inconsistent grader. Also be prepared to spend a lot of time outside of class (she recommends up to 25 hours per week) practicing problems. Started with over 40 people in class, ended up with 15. Good luck...
I actually really liked her. She doesn't drop any tests or quizzes but she explains everything really well & is willing take questions & go through it again. There is a quiz at the beginning of every class but she'll take q's & go over the homework before starting. 4 tests throughout semester. Final exam q's are taken directly from previous tests.
Was not very nice at all. No extra help available - just the learning center. Did not explain in a clear way. She was kind of mean also. I was not the only one who thought so also. If you know what you are doing, she is fine. If not, take someone else.
Easy work assignments. Quizzes and Test are always based on previous homework assignments, therefore if you do your homework and clearly understand, you'll be fine. But I do NOT recommend to miss any class days with her, there is always pop quizzes and tons of notes, she won't explain anything twice. She always second guesses your right answer.
Prof teaches too fast. can be rude and answers questions with a question to make you think but I still end up not understanding. makes mistakes sometimes which teaching. she corrects the mistakes but does not explain the mistake she made. I failed her class but got an A in the same class with Mrs. beard from Ventura college the following semester.
I took this professor for Math... And I gave pretty much a 100% of my effort. AND I GOT A B. Coming from someone who actually works hard to keep her grades up. I was not happy with this. It is my only B in my grades. DO NOT TAKE HER IF YOU ARE BAD IN MATH AND YOU PUT YOUR 100% EFFORT BUT YOU STILL CANNOT GET THAT A! SHE WILL BRING YOU DOWN!
If you are a visual learner do not take this course. She skips many steps when teaching and sometimes only verbally states the steps/results. She is also very intimidating and rude. It makes you not want to ask for help. Her grading is all over the place too. The textbook was also filled with many errors which did not help. Not even an easy C.
Kind of stuck up. Talks fast. Grades tough. Doesn't like doing problems on board when you ask. Puts you in the spot when you ask questions. Quiz & exam problems are from homework. Sometimes grades quizzes & exams wrong. Kind of messy. Not really helpful.
Talk about hard!!! I took this class in the summer. If you are not prepared to work hard, do not take math in the summer. She was tough, but fair. I worked my butt off and I was rewarded with a good grade. Do the homework and take notes!
If you are going into a class where extra help will be required DO NOT take this teacher. She lets you struggle until you get the right answer while watching you and doesn't guide you through problems... terrible approach to "helping" students.
DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HER CLASSES. YOU WILL REGRET IT. COMPLAINTS FROM MOST STUDENTS.
goes very fast, not likely to stop and review
there are too many test given out both in class and onlne and gives out a lot of homework shes tough and i didnt feel like i could talk to her on the subject
DON'T TAKE HER UNLESS YOU INTEND TO FAIL! SHE DOESN'T WANT YOU TO PASS HER CLASS! LOVES MAKING YOU LOOK & FEEL STUPID! Harasses students, unwilling to help, merciless grader, impossible exams, dislikes female students, unable to explain course material. Unhappy with her life & makes her students pay for her unhappiness. WILL RUIN YOUR GPA!
took yang for spring and ended up dropping her class. she goes very fast and hard to keep up. when you ask questions she is not helpful and expects you to know everything. she purposely makes tests hard because she wants to be mean. she even said it.
very tough and mean on student
Toughest teacher ever!!!!! In class Quizzes matter, so do the homework. If your struggling she is no help. At the beginning of class full house, as time was passing students were dropping like flies. Just try your best and maybe you will pass. My advice RUNNNN!!!
This teacher is horrible. I took her during the fall semester and had to drop the class. She knows the material but she's mean and rude. She doesn't help at all, and if you ask a question, she'll answer back, you should know this, you took Math 14, it's basic Math. She makes you feel stupid and dumb. Very fast pace, doesn't stop to assist anyone.
By far the most mean teacher in my life. Like the other comments she skips steps and it took her like 10 mins from chapter 6.1 to 6.3 and gave out quizzes the next day and everybody failed with a zero. I might even fail her class because, she is expecting everybody to know this stuff like we are some kind of wizard.
Skips so many steps when explaining an equation, gives quizzes every single day. Teaching methods not helpful at all. Not nice to students when they need help.
DON'T TAKE THIS IS CLASS! SIMPLE AS THAT. HORRIBLE PROFESSOR. DOES NOT CARE ABOUT HER STUDENTS. YOU WILL FAIL!
Make a lot of mistake. Doesn't care about students. Skip lesson. Solve problem not correctly
I took her class and fell behind due to personal reasons. I was doing well in her class and actually grew to find math fun! Unfortunately I couldnt see the class to the end and had to dropit. However, there is something to be said about failing a course but still desiring to enroll with that same professor once again. Shes tough but you'll learn!!
In the middle of the semester my professor told the class he was going to have hip surgery and was not going to be able to finish the semester. His replacement was Yang and I have to say she is the worst math professor I've ever had. She skips sections of the chapters, she is not straight forward when teaching and makes tests ridiculously hard.
Prof. Yang is a tough grader but that's the great thing about her, she wont make it easy for you, not because she wants to remove what little confidence you had in math to begin with but because she wants you to think deeply about the material. My advice: Stay hungry for success. Immerse yourself in the material. Defeat your inner critic. You can.
Shes is the worst teacher, talks to fast, expects you to know the answers, does not explain how she gets an answer, 1-2 examples, she doesn't grade homework your grade is based on quizzes and test. I would never take a class with her again everyone in class had an F very few passed. This is the only class I failed and I'm an A student with a 3.0GPA
You need to put the time in yourself because she will only teach you so much in the class herself. Yet she will help you if you simply ask her. She would help me every single day after class. She doesn't like to see her students fail. Just ask for help!
The test is not exactly what you learn from the text, it would always have really difficult questions that you couldn't even understand and were not in the text. Take home exams are similar to in-class exams but way more difficult. Would NOT recommend.
On a personal level I felt this professor was very sweet. Her teaching style is very hard to follow. She has long difficult lectures, and they way she teaches doesn't go along with the book. If you ask her to explain something, she doesn't try to explain it differently, she just repeats her self. She gives no feed back on why answers are wrong.
Do the work see the reward. If you show potential she will push you because the sky is the limit. Take the class seriously and put in the hours and she will be fair. I finished TM1 in 2 months and was on track to finish TM2 in 3.5 months but when my dad passed away I had to leave school. That woman believed in me when I couldn't believe in me.
She does go fast in her lectures but she's a really good professor overall.
Don't take during summer, a lot of work in very little time & fast paced. No extra credit, quizzes everyday, 4 exams & 1 final. DO YOUR HOMEWORK! If you do the homework you'll do good on the quizzes & exams. Ask questions in class, take good notes w/different colored pens, show all your work & ALWAYS check your answers on ALL quizzes/exams!!
I took this class during the summer. This was by far the most challenging class ever! You MUST take notes, quizzes everyday, fast paced lectures, most of your grade based on tests. Prof Yang isn't going to baby you through the semester. She expects you to work hard and ask if you need help. If you bust your butt she will honor this at the end.
She's tough and she's a little intimidating. HOWEVER!! her lectures are so good and I actually learned in her class. Her lectures were clear and we practiced problems in order to understand. Her notes are phenomenal and she's great at teaching. She's just a little scary though. Also you'll never be good at math if you don't try to do the homework.
Not really clear on curriculum and teaches in a hurry. Hard to keep up in class and grades hard on tests and quizzes
Honestly the worst math class I've taken. There's a lot of unnecessary work involved and a lot of assignments due in a short amount of time. You can have 7 hw sets with double the quizzes plus discussion posts and exams due on the same day. Be prepared to spend a LOT of time for this class. Went over lecture time by 30 minutes multiple times.
Horrible! Rude, diminishes students, lack of teaching skills, does not care for students, fast paced, and not sympathetic. Prof Yang gives Oxnard College a bad name. Started with a full class, students are withdrawing like flies. Oxnard College should not hire anyone like this. I feel bad for brand new students coming out of high school.
The Worse!!
Professor Yang likes to give a lot of unnecessary homework, be prepared to spend a lot of hours doing homework. Quizzes every week after each set of homework, sometimes up to 4 sets so 8 assignments in total. Talks way to fast to keep up with. I would not recommend her at all.
I'm a freshman and never in my life had a teacher like this before. Professor Yang would give WAY LOTS of homework and quizzes. She does teaches in a hurry and would makes us solve the problem and put in the answer in the chat box with not that much time to do. If you don't answer, she takes out points. Plus, she switches the units very fast.
Stay far away from this teacher. She clearly is unhappy in her life and hopes to spread her unhappiness to everyone around. Im an A B student. i have never been treated so poorly by a teacher. If you ask questions she tells you to figure it out yourself or watcha video. condescending enjoys humiliating students. should not be allowed to teach
As a first-gen undocumented student at OC, Professor Yang is by far the most incredible statistics instructor =) With each lecture she gave, she was incredibly enthusiastic and informative. This class is not intended to be easy! Let this review reflect on hard work & commitment the class demands. You will not pass this class without professor Yang.
Love Yang! she can be a little intimidating but as long as you do your work or even try to she will always help. No EC but the final only comes from the past exams you've done. She is very caring and really wants to help students if you just ask her. She will go over whatever you need. Many quizzes but all based on homework. Very good lectures. YES
bad bad bad !!!!
A lot of homework and no help
I have a way different opinion than most. Professor Yang is awesome. It's "Statistics", in general it is an insanely hard class. But if you are struggling, Professor Yang will go out of her way to help, but you have to ask, she can't read minds. It's also called "College", it's not meant to be easy. If it were easy, everyone would go to college.
Yang is not for the weak. If you are not ready to take school seriously, don't take her class or go to an expensive 4-year uni b/c she prepares you for exactly that. Remember, this is a Math class; if you don't do homework, how will you practice what you have learned to be ready for the exam?
she's gives out a lot of homework very easy to fall behind if you have other classes it's a ridiculous amount!! She has a idc personality. No make up for test or quizzes any late homework is only with half no matter how good. She lacks teaching skills very hard to understand she doesn't explain anything well.
Literally the worst math class i've ever taken. She goes way too fast doesn't stop, expects you to know and learn the concepts quickly. Lectures are very disorganized basically her just rambling for 2 hours straight and assigns wayy too much hw!! SAVE YOURSELF AND DONT TAKE HER CLASS!!
Had great lectures and we were never quizzed/tested on something that was not taught. Always willing to answer questions on any assignment, though she never gave direct answers which can be irritating. Quizzes are similar to homework questions and exams are similar to quiz questions. Complete all assignments and ask questions to be successful!
I could see the class/professor not being a great fit for some but for me I was able to do well in the class and it could be due to the fact that math is my strong suit. She is very fast pace so during lectures you have to make sure you are paying close attention and taking great notes. All late work will be half credit so turn in work on time.
You should not take this class if you are not willing to do the work. While there is a lot of homework, there was plenty of time given to complete it, if you wait until last minute you will get overwhelmed. There is a 1 question quiz given every week. 4-5 exams. She drops 6 quizzes and one exam will match your final exam grade assuming you do well
The amount of homework she assigns is simply ridiculous. Lectures are quite difficult to follow, especially since she doesn't even explain the topics thoroughly, and it's very easy to fall behind. Her grading system is designed for you to fail. She knows math really well, it's a shame she doesn't know how to teach.
