CRAZY woman...literally. Hard to follow, unorganized, quirky, bad lecturer
definetly crazy- but amusing. interesting class though

crazy as hell, but such an interesting class.. pretty easy too
Boring lectures and exam is on lecture topics, but she has no topic to her lectures so studying for exam is a little difficult. Avoid this prof. if possible
She wants to help you...Yes, she is quirky but the class is a good break from the ordinary... the two tests are mostly on lecture and the articles... it's pretty easy to breeze by with a B
she tries really hard to engage the students, not a lot os asked of you.. very little work, easy B. she is mean to the TF
er.... she tries... but... kinda mean to TF... kinda hard to take others' perspectives... class is not very organized... notes r kinda messy, overhead projector sheets r kinda dirty and unclear and old... on time, never late to class, she tries
nice lady- crazy and disorganized. but she tries. be prepared for a side ponytail and difficult multiple choice exams - pretty easy to get a B, difficult to get an A.
Ok, I know she tries, but we have to be realistic here. I thought that maybe you could learn about kids. WRONG. In this class all you do is study statistics and define "causality". I can't take notes because I'm too stunned and horrified when
Oh yeah, she's freakin' nuts, no doubt about it. However, she's very clear about what the grading criteria is. If you can't get an A- in this class, that's your fault, not hers.
She is a little crazy but it adds humor to an already interesting topic. She covers things effectively enough. You can tell that she loves what she is teaching. She wants student input as well and is open to all comments.
she tries but she has a very hard time seeing others' points of view.
Disorganized, biased, crazy...tests are nuts! Not hard questions, but include tons and tons of reading. Just download the notes, MEMORIZE everything, and read all the articles. The class is a mess but your grade won't be if you do those two things.
way too much reading, very unclear, she nuts

she's a loon, but it makes the class kinda funny in a way. greatly enjoy the tf; made the class so much better. learned about children, but more from experimental/statistical bckgrd, making tests difficult
You all say she's nuts, but there's method in that madness

Prof Harris may seem all over the place but eveything actually makes sense (even though its hard to organize everything she says)and tests are definately manageable if you study, many options for final project, don't take class if you can't keep up with fast-talkers
She is an awesome teacher! def a different teaching style but keeps u interested! tests arent bad and as long as u go to lectures your fine... do NOT need to read a lot at all more listening!
She's a little crazy, and she has obvious organizational issues. Knows her subject well, and from what I can tell, has reasonable expectations. She could stand to incorporate her personal life less.
It's a trap! Lets just say that Harris is 52 cards short of a full deck. Lecture had as much worth as an unripe banana back in elementary school when you wanted to trade for a snack pack. Class was as organized as a marching band with no organization. Ludicrosity. L-U-D-I-C-R-O-S-I-T-Y!
She is definitely nutty, but its entertaining. If you go to lecture & discussion you don't need to read the textbook. Tests are super super easy. If you can take a little craziness/disorganization and are interested in child psych, you should definitely take this class.
I enjoyed her developmental psych course, it had its ups and downs. The class was apathetic and she was not "organized", but she has a nice pair of legs and isn't making a interesting course extremely difficult for difficulty's sake.
Crazy as the day is long, but really knows her stuff and tries to make lectures interesting. You'll enjoy class because of all the quoteable, nutty things she says. Courtney is an AMAZING ta. Fair grader, but don't let the "poster" project fool you; it's A LOT of work.
Go to class. GO to class. One of the questions on the final asked you to pick out the topic she had not discussed in lecture. Must go to lecture.
Definitely an easy grader if you GO TO CLASS. She doesn't make you do the reading (and actually tells you you don't have to). She really makes a good effort to make the material interesting, and even though she's a nut, its pretty entertaining most of the time.
waste of time. the sad thing is you can do decent without going to lecture or reading. She's crazy, and I mean the bad kind of crazy, I was always scared she'd start foaming at her mouth. There was no final, just a poster presentation. Where are we, Kindergarten?
Loony tunes.
run. unless you want a stupid class with an incompetent professor and no final, run.
A bit loony, but I think she means well. Has a habit of going off on tangents, especially about relationships. Would be pretty if she updated her wardrobe (which is still in the 1980s, despite the fact that she's not very old).

She is incredibly disorganized and her slideshow lectures don't even pertain to the new textbook this semester. When she does crank out a new powerpoint, she never posts it online and skips through the slides so quickly that you can't even begin to write the sporadic and disorganized information down. She is condescending. To be avoided if possible
Prof Harris is extremely knowledgeable and often behaves humorously in class. She's excellent at connecting class material to other branches of psychology and science in general. I remember in class she even explained about the origins of lactose intolerance. She's an amazing educator and her class is worth taking.
I love Cathy! If you're uptight and expect a boring lifeless professor who rambles through notes, this class isn't for you. She knows her stuff and never ceases to make learning an...interesting event. Oh, and you can't forget about The Cultural Hypertrophization of Biological Gender Dimorphism!!
This class is an easy A but Professor Harris is truely insane. She gives unorganized, random lectures and posts the wrong notes online. I just finished the class for the semester with an A and my book is still in plastic wrap- it's completly a waste of money to buy it.
Harris is CRAZY! She thinks students enjoy personal stories and sexual jokes. It is annoying. Lectures are very unorganized. The TF was amazing! Easy class but some of her test questions are hard because she is so off. No final, there is only an end project which is the worst part of the class. Only 2 tests.
Yeah, she's a bit looney, but I think the personal stories and sexual jokes add to the class and make the info more memorable. If you're a prude, you probably shouldn't be getting an education...just go to church and pray.
This class is exteremely disorganized, without Cara as the TF everyone would be lost! As disorganized as it is, it ends up being an easy A. Few pointers: don't buy the book, you never use it, and it is really not necessary to go to lectures at all. Go to Cara's discussions and jeopardy reviews and you will get an A :)
possible frontal lobe injury here- disinhibited and disorganized.
Yeah, she's a bit off her rocker, and can definitely be disorganized, she knows the material well and is overall a good professor. Don't bother buying the book b/c the tests are based all on lecture. The project at the end is easy, and actually fun to do.
Ick. I was very interested in this class before I started it. Harris is a nice person, but she's quite unorganized. She shows up late to class. I actually didn't learn a lot in this class at all. About 80% was stuff I'd learned in HS. There are two tests, and each is worth 20% of your grade. You have to participate a LOT..15% of your grade
Nut Job...Not very Organized...she was just all over the place...But she's FUN, she does or says some of the weirdest suff sometimes (maybe that's why I went to class...just to see what she would do...Bad Professor *spank*..haha). As long as you have Cara as a TF, you'll be all set...she's clear and tells you what you need to know, very organized.
i think she might be insane. total weirdo but really easy straightforward material. almost exactly the same as ps101. the final project was so easy and she was a generous grader. i got a 40/40 on a big rainbow poster about the basis of homosexuality. the multi choice tests were fair. def a GPA boosting class
This woman is seriously insane, and i suspect that she doesn't know what she's talking about, so don't expect to learn much. however, she is a guaranteed, set-in-stone A if you need to boost your gpa.
This woman is crazy, but in a good way. She knows her topic VERY well. Don't listen to the people who say she doesn't know what she's talking about. She's brilliant and her course teaches students to think critically about scientific research.
has great intentions/really wants students to learn, but is confusing sometimes b/c she is so brilliant (so maybe she should only teach graduates...). Either way, she is very giving on grades - her tests are fair, ppl who don't do well on the multi-choice didn't take the whole 2 hours to fill out study guide.
Both professor harris and her teaching fellow were extremely disorganized and rarely prepared for lectures. the discussion sessions were pointless and unproductive. if you want to learn and understand developmental psychology without the headache of a circus act, do not take this section. the disorganization is unbearable.
not that hard of a class... but she and the TF are so unbelievably disorganized that it's really not worth the headache. she changes her mind about tests/projects every class... so i still don't really have any idea what i am being graded on. also, the TF (tina) is very nice, but unable to answer students' questions on the material from lecture.
Okay guys, here's the deal. I had Harris as an undergrad at BU last year, and now I'm a psychology grad student elsewhere. She is one of the most brilliant professors I've ever encountered; not only does she know her stuff, she knows "the stuff" from many other fields. She WILL teach you to think critically and skeptically about scientific research
Professor Harris is brilliant, and while her class is a bit unorthodox, it is immensely interesting. She often acts out impromptu scenes and starts out each class asking if anyone has questions. People rarely say they do, and I can only assume that her classes are comprised of lackluster students who aren't interested in the subject anyway.
She's super-enthusiastic and very knowledgeable, and tries to (and does) generate that in students.
This professor is very intelligent; however, her grading is unfair. Also, there is a language barrier with the TA. It is easy material, but I cannot stress how unfair grading is. Neither Prof or TA answer emails; they do not want to be disturbed. If you can help it, do not take this class with Harris. She is a horrible BU teacher.
Loves what she teaches and inspires creative thinking. Her enthusiasm for psychology is contagious.
Overall an ok class. She wasn't as kooky as I'd hoped based on other ratings, but she really knows what she's talking about. NEVER used the book, don't bother buying it. Discussion section was totally pointless. The TF, Tina, is pretty awful. She's really nice, but that's about it. One project is 40% of your grade, but super easy.
Class was a joke. If you're a psych major who actually wants to learn something, steer clear. But if you're just fulfilling credits or need a GPA boost, take it. You have to be an idiot (or never show up to class) to do badly. As mentioned, Tina was a terrible TF who knew less psychology than I did and said lots of things that didn't make sense.
Very intelligent...really knows her stuff. Some students don't "get" her, because of their own stupidity.
Absolutely wonderful. Easy class if you attend lecture and pay attention. And why wouldn't you with Harris!? She's literally a joy to listen to. Entertaining, interesting and engaging. One of the best psych classes I've taken. Couple tests, one big project; all pretty easy. The material is crucial to life, great class for the non-psych major.
Could not stand this class. Lectures were disorganized, exams were a joke, believes that men are better at math because they used to hunt, and 40% of the grade based on a presentation that, in my case, Harris interrupted repeatedly and then left early. Also, professor obviously has no actual experience with kids. Absolutely useless.
Most unfair grading system I have ever witnessed. She will show you grades throughout the semester with scaled grades and then when calculating your final grade the scale will be totally disregarded..so you end up with a lower grade than you expected all semester
Everyone keeps saying how "brilliant" Prof. Harris is. That's not exactly the adjective I would use to describe this woman. "Disorganized" and "ridiculous" are two more effective words that apply to her INEFFECTIVE teaching style. Of course the class is "easy" -- you're learning about when children walk. But her tests are unfair and she's a joke.
if people don't "get" professor harris, it's not because of their own stupidity, it's because her lectures were not organized at all and her material is from the 80's, do not take this class if you don't need to
Avoid this professor. Her lectures are disorganized, very boring, and altogether ridiculous. She is not very nice and not very helpful. Discussion is a horrible and painful waste of time.
Catherine is brilliant and presents information from all possible angles. Her lectures aren't the most organized, but all the information is memorable. As long as you're a student who is actually interested in getting an education (vs. just finishing your degree), I'd recommend her. Final project is super fun, as long as you choose a topic you like
This class was a complete joke and waste of everyone's time. The lectures were not stimulating and no one listened. She puts powerpoints online so going to class is unnecessary. It is a very easy class but does not guarantee an A. For such an interesting topic, its unfortunate that the class was so boring.
Lecture material was biased; she taught only the material she felt like teaching, so I don't think I learned half the stuff I was supposed to with Developmental Psychology. Class was boring and very skip-able. I raised my hand every class and she never once asked for my name. Discussions are painfully useless, but attendance is mandatory.
you actually dont have to read the book, just use it for study guides. tests (multiple choice) are really easy if you do the study guide. Harris's lectures are kinda entertaining just b/c of the way she speaks. Spent 2 weeks on the project and got an A (just make sure ur idea is originial). Can be an easy A by doing study guides.
absolutely awful. if you want to know Developmental Psych, find a different professor. this woman is all over the place and doesn't even teach you anything useful. she flies through powerpoints and has no organization to what she's teaching you. literally just sounds like she's spitting random useless info at you for an hour straight.
she's impossible to follow and doesnt actually explain major concepts, but rather talks forever about barely related things. I feel like I didnt learn anything about developmental psychology.
In my opinion, the class was not that difficult - just try to show up to lecture at least once or twice a week and go over her slides before the quizzes. You don't really need to read the textbook. Be prepared for a lot of strange comments followed by a lot of awkward silences. I found that the videos were always the most interesting.
She's a very knowledgeable woman, always open to discussion and encourages participation. That said, you really don't have to go to lecture to do well. Just study the powerpoints and choose a creative topic for the final project!
This semester she was trying active learning. Since it was her first time doing this she was really concerned with our opinions on how to organize the class. She is sweet but quite crazy and all over the place, and often doesn't make sense with her goals. But I think this makes the class easy to get a good grade in. You still learn an ok amount.
The grade was fairly easy to earn, but none of us learned anything. I learned way more in my undergrad cognition class than in her class. And it didn't really seemed like she cared if we learned either. Not a good class to take if you are hoping to learn about cognition. My suggestion--wait a semester to take it with Otto.
I really didn't learn much about cognitive psychology. It seems like every discussion will be out of control at last. She'd rather talk about related stuffs. What she talked about was not clear at all. But the tasks were easy to complete.
Her lectures are the most disorganized thing I have ever experienced, her slides aren't helpful. I only show up to the lecture because she gives questions that will be randomly graded. Honestly, the discussion section is the only reason I know what's happening in this class. Beware, if you have a question, she may make you use a microphone.
Professor Harris's lectures are extremely disorganized and impossible to follow. She flies through slides and glosses over topics, claiming that you will have read them in the book or learned them in a previous class. Unfortunately, questions are encouraged, but her answers lead to more confusion. Do not take this class if you want to learn!
Her lectures are disorganized lectures and she speeds through the slides. It doesn't seem like she knows what she is doing. On the day of an exam she randomly decides to give a lecture and realizes midway through that people are studying the exam so she forces us to put away our stuff. And then she goes off on a tangent on electronics in classes.
I loved Professor Caldwell-Harris. She was so sweet. This class was also very interesting. She is all together super understanding about any situation that you may be going through. I am very glad took this class. She also provides a lot of great feedback and as long as you show up to class and participate, you will get a good grade.
I don't understand why prof CH has so many bad reviews. She is a gem of a professor and clearly extremely passionate about teaching. Additionally, she encourages group discussion to facilitate learning through peers which is very valuable. She genuinely cares about her students and their interests. I would take any class she is teaching.
CH cares about and implements feedback, but in the same way it is appreciated it can be a bit of a downfall. Deadlines felt a bit unclear and unstructured, and lecture is mostly student-led. The course is great for discussion and exploration, but I can't say I really learned anything. She was more of a facilitator here, but still a good experience!
CH is really passionate and invested in her students' feedback, which is amazing and underrated. But her 560 class is disorganized; she attempted to create a highly flexible environment, but it was too much so that assignment deadlines felt chaotic and non-structured.
Professor Caldwell-Harris is a gem! She is so clearly passionate about what she teaches, and genuinely cares about collaborating with students. Her Neurodiversity class was very flexible and I found it inclusive and engaging for neurodiverse students who may be taking the class.
