Mrs. Chamberlayne was incredible. She is a rare breed of Math teacher in that she actually knows how to teach. You can tell she has a sincere concern in whether the class is really comprehending the material. She takes time to break down the problems and explains them in such a way that all types of learners can benefit. She also painstakingly crea
good teacher. Made for teaching math. Once you get over her careless errors on her powerpoints and handouts you'll do fine. Only buy the book if the online homework doesn't help. Overall she is a very helpful teacher
She is an excellent teacher who makes the work interesting and the class lively. Her tests are comprehensive, yet fair. She gives excellent reviews and sample problems. She appears to care whether or not her students learn the material.
She's a great teach who makes new and difficult material comprehensible. She knows the subject well and presents it in a organized way using Powerpoints. She is well prepared and I've learned a lot about statistics in this class. I highly recommend her.
good math teacher however, makes so many mistakes it getd very annoying. I never know if i can trust her answers and problems she gives on handouts. Gets old real fast
Worst teacher to have for Precal!! Her teaching style sucked! she sounds like she's good for stats, but not here. She'd give a few examples of something and on a test the hardest possible equation that didn't even look like it was in the notes. In all, crappy teaching style and only take her if you can teach yourself from the book
I had her for precalc and actually enjoyed math for the first time at ODU. Her teaching style is very clear and precise and she gives you very detailed study guides for all the tests. She goes out of her way to provide study sessions for the students. She is a rare math teacher that really wants every student to pass. I think she is teaching stats.
I am horrible at math but this was the first class I really enjoyed at ODU after 3 years. Her teaching style is the best so far with the pwpts and handouts. She makes mistakes yes but she is HUMAN. Other profs I've had are the same way. Her tests are fair and you have to come to class to avoid getting behind. Overall a VERY good teacher!!
Fantastic! I had her for Stats as well and she genuinely wants everyone to feel at ease with the subject matter and learn the material. She is always willing to answer questions and work with you. If you struggle with math at all this is the professor to take!
Easy class. If you have any prior knowledge of algebra/precalc this class should be a breeze. I tended to get a little annoyed because she goes over useless information that everyone should already know. She grades very easily and the tests have some of the same questions as the sample test she gives you.
She is a GREAT professor. She is very helpful for those not so math efficient. If you pay attention and go to class then you should be able to understand the material. She makes sure everyone knows it before going on, which can become tedious and boring for those who are good at math, but it just makes the tests easier. TAKE HER
Great teacher, very helpful. Desires student particpation but dont not demand it. She tries to be modern and funny but sometimes it doesnt work, points for trying though. Loved her class.
i love her!! very good teacher...always like to help..im not good at math but i passed..TAKE HER very gooooodddd teachhhheeerrr
we have about 3 tests and a final. You get the same formula sheet for all the tests . With the final, she will make your score on that you're final grade if it is higher than your overall grade. She gives plenty hmwk assignments but that's a good thing b/c you need to practice . ! There's 1 project I dont see how you cant get an A in this class .
Do not take her! She's a horrible teacher and teaches way too fast!
She's an amazing teacher! Those who rate negatively probably: A) didn't attend class regularly B) didn't do homework C) DIDN'T ASK FOR HELP or D) never studied. It's hard to do poorly or fail this class, but good grades aren't given, they're earned.
LOVE HER <3 She's cool and its hilarious when she makes mistakes because she's dyslexic and its cute. she talks fast, but will wait up and is very nice. She let a dude bring an airhorn in our class and scared everyone including her... haha.
Ms. Chamberlayne lays out her very specific rules for classroom decorum from the first day of class. She expects you to adhere to them. If you are struggling with some of the more abstract concepts, there is nothing she will not do to help a student learn, but you must be willing to put in the work. She is very friendly and approachable.
I have been through many math teachers in the U.S and out and this teacher impressed me with how much she's willing to work hard for you and to give you second chances, most teachers don't take as much time as she does inside and outside the class room, I am just sad that she doesn't teach other calculus courses.
Her class was great. Got an F with prof. Solomon fall semester, took Stat 130 again spring with her, and got an A-. She wants her students to pass and it shows, she makes herself available and will adapt to your pace. Tests are straight from notes and lectures. Easy online homework too
I loved her!! She can be really funny and she really cares about her students. She teaches a hard course in such an easy way and makes it easier to understand. I will say Business Calc isn't an easy A so don't expect that, but do expect to pass the class because she really doesn't want you to fail. TAKE HER!
Very helpful teacher, makes the course material seem like a breeze. Do the homework. Tests aren't hard; gives study guides that are almost exatly like the tests. Overall she cares about your grade and is an easy teacher.
Wonderful teacher. Makes everything easy to understand. Does not try to trick you on the tests. Recommend if you want an A! :)
Great professor. She teaches with many examples. Her tests are fair and she posts sample tests. She holds review sessions out of class time as well. Math 200 is difficult but she is very good at teaching it.
AMAZING TEACHER!! so helpful. take her if u can. it may seem like a lot but its worth it because she helps you and wants you to pass and learn!!
This course could be extremely easy. But not with her. She is unclear in what she teaches, speeds through, and is last minute with setting study sessions b4 exams. I walked out feeling so confident about every exam but failed them due to her being so picky. She will only accept work that is done EXACTLY like she taught it. DO NOT TAKE!!
Take her! She is very clear in her teaching. Show effort and she will help you with whatever you are struggling with. It is a hard course, but she makes it very easy to understand. I am bad at math, but she truly makes it very easy to understand!
A good and fair teacher. She teaches using relevant examples and is light on homework. She posts notes and a practice test on Bb. She uses the easiest practice test questions on the actual test. She said so herself. Buy the book, do the homework, come to class, take notes, do the practice test, get an easy A. I have a 100 in her class. Good prof.
The class itself was hard, but she made it as easy as possible. She reminds me of a highschool teacher, trying to help her students in all ways. You have to earn your A, but she def helps. The only thing is she doesn't wear shoes.
Classes are a little all over the place, notes aren't always clear. She did set up a tutor for her MATH 200 classes who is very helpful. She is a very very nice person, but a difficult math teacher.
Horrible teacher..being one of those kids who is terrible at mat h she was a hard teacher. All over the place with notes & would teach over class time. Hard tests and a stickler at that. Do not take if you struggle at math! I had to teach myself A LOT of the material.
I really enjoyed having her as a teacher. My experience with pre calculus made me dread calculus. With this teacher, I feel like a learned the material effectively and she is clear on what will be on the exam. She provides extra help and sample tests that are almost exactly like the tests. I would take her again.
The class should be easy but her poor standard of teaching makes it much harder than needs be. ODU's poorest teacher for me so far WORST TEACHER. Doesn't use the internet, has no TV, barely uses a phone and has lots of pet cats. Say no more.
DO NOT TAKE HER, too much homework and she wont even collect it. she doesn't use technology at all. 163 should be easy but with her its extremely hard again DO NOT TAKE HER
She was a really good professor who actually cares if you understand the material. There is a lot of homework, but it helps when it comes test time. I wish she was teaching Calc I!
I thought she was a great teacher! She would demonstrate how to do a problem then allow the class to work out the next one and ask what problems they had so she could go over it again or move on. She required homework and attendance but that is a huge reason I passed. Her tests reflected her notes & homework so if I studied I did good on the test!
She requires homework and attendance but that is a big reason I passed. She is very good about going over things multiple times if the majority of the class is confused. If you takes notes and do the homework the tests aren't hard. She also provides a study guide before the test and that alone prepares you for the test. I really like the class!

She is very good teacher. She explains everything to you. Its actually irritating. She teaches as if we are in Kindergarten. On top of that she NEVER posts an grades. You can not email her outside of her office hours, which are barely there. She doesn't grade work on time and makes a lot of excuses. Basically she an aweful professor, great teacher
She's great at explaining everything. She came out very strict on the first week, but was very lenient and easy afterwards. Tests are fair, she includes an extra credit question. Quiz and HW check every Friday. Quizzes are short, either copy from HW, similar question or even just showing up to class. I highly recommend her for Pre-Calc
Very boring. She's extremely thorough to the point of redundancy, but she makes sure that everyone understands. If you're a quick learner, I would not suggest her. It gets old really fast.
LOVE her! Considering prior to taking this course I already failed stat so i was dreading having to take this class once again. She prints off all the slides for you, and explains things so clearly! She is strict with attendance but its for your own grade. Tests are exactly what she goes over in class. I highly recommend her to everyone !
Dont understand the poor reviews! I loved her! She's very funny kind of corny but its entertaining. She makes sure everyone understands before moving on. Anyone who struggles with math should take her! Very good professor!
SHE IS AWESOME! she always makes sure everyone understand before she moves any further! she gives test reviews before the test and you are dumb if you don't do them! it helps alot! she is kind of corny but its funny! never a bad time in her class! love her wish she taught more subjects!!!
I took this class fall semester. I have a hard time with math tests, but I came to class everyday and did the homework. She realized how hard I worked and gave me an amazing opportunity to raise my grade. Needless to say, it was the best Christmas present I ever received. DEFINITELY recommend her if you work hard, even if you're not perfect!
one of the best professors I have had here at odu. she is always willing to help and always has a smile on her face. Take her, you wont regret it !!!!
Awesome teacher who gives her students every opportunity to succeed--super clear and willing to make sure everyone understands the material before moving on.
Mrs. Chamberlayne is awesome. I took her for calculus 1 over the summer which was her first giving calc over the summer. Her lectures where very informative and helpful. HW is mandatory, which is good for math. You can tell that she wants you to succeed, and will take the time to explain things for you. Take this professors course!
Amazing teacher!!!! Broke down the material to a level of clear understanding. Best teacher I have had at ODU!!! Does not require the textbook. If you go to class, easy A.
Hands down, one of the best math teachers I have ever had. Will do her best to not let a single person fall behind in the course. Breaks down everything to teach it step by step. Challenging tests, but if you do the homework (as you should be) they won't be a problem.
She is such a weird lady but she really tries to make sure you learn the material. Her practice exams are pretty much the exact same as her tests. I'm horrible at math and aced this class with minimal effort. Highly recommend.
As a person doesn't like math and isn't good at it, Prof. Chamberlayne made it extremely easy. She provides you with so many different resources including print outs of the notes, homework assignments where you have unlimited attempts to get 100, practice quizzes, and practice tests. As long as you put in the work, you'll pass easily.
Generally a decent professor. Cracks jokes often. Can be pretty slow-paced, which makes class easy but boring. She's usually disorganized. May work only 3 or 4 problems on the board per class. Occasional online homework, few quizzes and tests. There's probably better and more informative professors out there, though.
She is such a sweet lady, but her teaching style was not for me. She went very slow which made class boring, and I never wanted to go. You do have to go to class though because she takes attendance. I am not good at stat at all, and took her because of the rating on this sight. I was completely wrong. She always held us over class time.
She is always clear when lecturing. Not going to lie I dozed off in her class sometimes, but attending class everyday saved my butt. She gives extra credit on the final for perfect attendance. Very serious about no cell phones during lecture--it leads to a pop quiz on the spot if she sees one out. Study guides and chapter power points provided.
Her attendance policy is not the best, if you are a person who gets sick don't take this class.
If you're not good with Stat then i'd def recommend this prof. She understands that some people may not be that great in math and breaks everything down to the basics so that anyone can understand. Short chapter tests and reviews all questions that are on tests before the test. Basic online HW, and encourages everyone to pay attention.
She is really nice and explain clearly the purpose. She does not hesitate to help people and has a good way to teach with interest.
She is probably one of the greatest, if not the greatest, math professor I have ever had. Expect homework, especially if your taking Calculus, however, the homework is essential, you will not pass any Calculus course without it. Her office hours are convenient and I would write so many more good things about her but I just don't have enough space!
If you are taking her for math211 don't do it. I had her this year and it was her first year teaching she made so many mistakes during lectures. This is a very intense hard course. She is not worth taking:the homework doesn't match the study guide doesn't match the test. I learned a little she even made errors in office hours. She makes many mistak
Easy class. Didn't really enjoy the Way she teaches. Very boring.
Syllabus was full of spelling errors. Homework was not listed. She gives out homework the day NIGHT before it's due. Check Bb and/or your e-mail often. Does not know how to use Mymathlab, though she makes it a requirement for the course. She does not have Internet at her home, don't expect a prompt reply if you do e-mail for help.
Not very well organized. She does give out homework, and quiz notifications with short notice. Check your e-mail often. She provides extra notes on Bb to study with. Even passes out study guides to students that are having a problem with their algebra. She seems to really care. I would take Strozak if possible, but she is not a bad runner up.
Ms. Chamberlayne really cares about her students. She makes study guides for each chapter to expand the class lecture and reinforce anything you may have difficulties with. She even held a study session for our class on a Saturday. It was her day off! She is sort of disorganized. If you can deal with that, you will actually learn to love Calc.
Clear-cut instruction style, tailored PowerPoint handouts she gives you every chapter. Props to her for that, and her study guides are incredibly helpful for tests. A good instructor, but is almost robotic when it comes to her policies. Had to miss a test because I was studying abroad, would not reschedule for any reason. Had to take a 0 on it.
requires too much. Its to help, but its a lot to keep track of. Daily quizzes due before class on material not covered yet and yes you can try again after class IF you tried it before class but wont get full credit. In class lab's, in class 1 min quiz, text hw, online hw, online tutorials, and her board notes ALL over the place. STRESSFULL!
Although at some times she may seem flustered/unorganized, her teaching methods and classroom capabilities are stellar. Not only does she explain the course content extremely well, but she also is willing to help out and answer questions along the way. The resources she provides her students to succeed really are phenomenal. Not an Easy A though!
She is caring and she tries to help a lot. However, the quizzes and tests come from the book hw (which by itself is not graded) and the online hw that is graded doesn't really reflect the tests. There is a TON of information squeezed into the lectures so not much time for questions. Sample tests are given online but not much review time in class.
Just very difficult. Tests are not reflective from the HW.
I really enjoyed this class with Prof. Chamberlayne. She's super nice and easy to work with. When working out problems she broke down each step to make sure the class understood. She provided the notes and gave really good study guides. Homework was usually short. If you follow along and take good notes then you'll be able to pass the test easily.
Mrs. Chamberlayne is possibly my favorite professor so far. She lives to see her students do well and is so gifted at taking the complex and teaching it to people in a way that makes sense. Take her if you get a chance!
She was amazing and caring about her students. If you do the suggested homework would will do well in her test. In my opinion, she was so kind on her tests.
She is very helpful and amazing. If you revise all homework and pre-test materials, you will ace her class. I suggest you should take this class.
She is great .I suggest you to take her class.
she is a very nice and witty teacher. she trys to make the information as simple and easy as possible. if you are smart in math you might get somewhat bored in her class, but you're guaranteed to get the A. if you are not smart in math, pay attention and you'll do well. she posts practice tests which really help. does ask for a lot of HW.
You MUST do homework and study to pass her tests.
Just go through the handsout and you will get an A. She is the best teacher so far.
she is a nice person. she always gives us a laugh and try to help. Her class was great she always prepared us for the exam coming up. Until our final, her preparation for this exam was not helpful at all. The exam was nothing like what she was teaching all year. Other than the final the class was great.
Did fine on all of her tests and homework. However, the final was nothing like our other tests. Your prepared for her tests, but thats about it. Her attitude was mediocre half the time and she was very difficult to work with. (And yes I attended every class and went to the Stat Final Review which was not helpful!)
She complains a lot and makes mistakes while lecturing. The test compares to the homework. There are only 3 test and a final. The first 2 test will be easy but watch out for the 3rd one and the final I failed both of those but still managed to get a B-.
Alright, Im in pre Calc 2 with this professor. Started off ok, but by the second class everything changed. She gives out handouts each class which is the key to surviving. Her test rules are insane. She is a boring teacher, puts you to sleep instantly. She was sick for 3 weeks and was coughing all over the students. If you miss a day youre SOS.
She is super sweet and cares a lot about her students, as well as an awesome teacher. She grades slowly which can be stressful -you don't know how your grade is until the end of the semester. Don't skip class- every concept builds on the last. There is a lot of homework, but tests come with extra credit and are basically the practice problems
AWESOME TAKE HER FOR PRECALC II!
Professor Chamberlayne explains precalculus in a way that is very easy to understand. I was never great at math before, but now I understand why everything in math makes sense because of her. She gives in-depth explanations in every lesson. The only grades are the 4 tests, attendance, a compiled homework grade, a precalc 1 review, and the final.
WARNING: you take her, you're going to be screwed when it comes exam time. I am about to go in and take her exam in a couple of hours. This lady didn't even finish the class. A 3rd of the review sheet, we've never gone over. Don't take her unless you want to screw yourself over.
She is very knowledgeable about math. Her lectures are easy to follow along with, she also gives you a printed version of the lecture with examples to keep. She makes study guides before tests, which are very helpful. She is available outside of class to help as well. Awesome professor!
She is great at explaining topics in detail. she wants to make sure you're set up for success. She gives homework that's due every class, but it's only a few questions to help you practice. She wants to ensure no one is left behind the class so she will give tons of practice sheets and encourage collaboration. By far the best math teacher I've had.
This professor was very strict and if you actually want to learn the material then take this course. If its just for credits you probably should look for another professor. I had to switch online during the pandemic and she was not helping with anything.
Mrs. Chamberlayne is nice enough. Her stats class is pretty enjoyable at first but quickly turns into a slippery slope as chapters get more difficult. The homework is somehow more difficult than the tests, the latter of which are actually a fair amount of challenging while not being overbearing. Non-math people beware: statistics is rough.
Loved her. Easiest math I've taken. Sometimes makes silly mistakes but usually the class catches them. She's pretty funny too. Debated on taking stat online or w/ prof Chamberlayne and I have no regrets. Weekly hw but it's easy. The class itself is very easy and she is really kind and funny. 3 tests and a final, weekly hw. Study guides are the test
Professor Chamberlayne is a real gem in the ODU's math department. Lectures are easy to follow, genuinely wants all of her students to succeed. Will hold test review on the weekend. Teaches basic algebra concepts that may have been forgotten in previous math classes. Shows Calculus proofs so you understand the origin of what you're doing.
Participation in her class matters, she does provide youtube videos that she thinks will help you learn, however she is a little monotoned so sometimes the classes can be hard to focus in.
As long as you attend her zoom lectures, you will passed the tests and the class with an A!
If you have to take Stat 130M, then do not choose this professor. She is very strict, and she has so many steps and rules for the test, that it's literally hard to worry about studying. She rarely answers emails and is inconsiderate. Her blackboard course is very unorganized and is hard to follow. Test are tricky.
The only reason why someone would not pass this class is due to not attending class/zoom, completing hw late (procrastination), or not studying/ cramming. This professor is not hard at all. Her test study guides are THE TESTS just wording a little different and different numbers. Stay focused, keep up with the workload, and you WILL Pass.
there are only 3 tests worth 50% of your grade. She takes off points if your work is wrong or if you dont provide work. Somewhat easy but she is so rude and sarcastic
She is a good professor for someone who has math knowledge prior to taking this class. It was okay for me, but sometimes iffy. She does have favoritism towards students so if you speak up during class she will like you. Does call out people for not showing up. The HW is cumulative for 20%. Three tests and the final is 30 percent of your grade.
Do your best to not miss her class, early on the material is easy with prior math knowledge but the ball gets rolling real fast. Also utilize her study guides before tests, I recommend 3 attempts and you should pass with an A because the guide is whats on the test. She can be a bit much, can be rude, can be too hard but not too bad just stay ready.
This class isn't very hard at all. It's boring, but if you get the notes to have for homework and tests, you'll be fine. Do the study guides, they're basically the tests. She can be a little abrasive with people and will complain about people not coming, especially after tests, which can be a little annoying. Overall, not a terrible class.
Professor Chamberlayne is an excellent professor. She explains topics in-depth and thoroughly and encourages you to ask questions. She stresses the importance of trigonometry for upper-level math courses and wants you to do well. She assigns homework after every class; it's only a few questions to make sure you understand the topic.
I am absolutely horrible at math but she breaks everything down to where I was able to understand everything and even got 100 on 2 of my exams which never happens. In order to get these grades I highly suggest not skipping her class and actually doing the practice quizzes and study guides. If you do this you will pass her class.
I enjoyed this class a bunch, but I also really enjoy math. Show up, do the work, and participate in class! Homework should help your grade, but she does not really give any extra credit. She knew her subject and tried to prepare students for the exams each time. Lacks when it comes to communication vis email.
She is so rude and doesn't care what you think or feel about the class work/ tests. waste of time taking her class. she doesn't explain things very well and refuses to go over a topic more than once. also calls out people for everything they do wrong, definitely has favorites and shows it.
She is very rude. Hard to understand and won't explain things more than once. if you fail the first test, good luck passing the class. tests are worth 50% of your grade and homework is only 20%. she gives no mercy. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!!!!!!
WARNING!!!!!! Please do not enroll in the class if you wish to avoid wasting money. Her degree of helpfulness is comparable to, or perhaps even lower than, that of McDonald's drive-through employee Don't let her current rating fool you! I rather chew on bricks than to ever see this professor again!
Professor Chamberlayne was amazing. She made stats easy. She really seemed to care about the students and wanted people to succeed. She will help students who help themselves. The tests themselves are not incredibly difficult, and the final will replace your lowest grade. I would definitely recommend Chamberlayne to anyone who had to take Stat 130.
