This prof was a very tough marker. She wants the assignments written in a certain format and if you don't follow exactly how she wants then she will penalize you. she relies way too much on the format of the textbook and the marking rubric, ie if your missing a picture she penalizes for that. Be prepared to write. Not a bird course! Avoid her..
Catherine is a good prof. Although this was an online course, she was very good at engaging students. At times she could have been clearer. She cares about students and does her bet to assist. I found her to be a fair marker; however her grading timelines could have been clearer
Very knowledgeable with the material given. Gives great feedback on assignments. Pleasure to have as a professor. Good luck with the future endeavours!
Hands back assignments on time and helpful when needing clarification. She's great and open and she respects that you have a lot of other courses, knows how to cater lectures accordingly. Make sure to look at assignment guidelines and honestly follow each point and you will get full marks. She's awesome! Readings aren't mandatory to be honest!
I am a mature student, needless to say I was apprehensive about returning to school. However Ms. Jenkins has made this transition seemed, interesting and inspiring. This class has built my confidence. Ms. Jenkins style of teaching is refreshing, innovative and inviting. She connects with her students and makes herself available to them.
Catherine presents the material with great enthusiasm! Participation in the class with make you more engaged with the subject. Don't be afraid to ask for help because she will try to guide you. I was really glad to have class time to work on assignments.
Great prof! Gives good feedback and helped me improve my business writing. The textbook is boring but the prof does a great job explaining the content to make it understandable. Available for questions, responds to email fast, fair marker, would take again!
What she lacks in zest she makes up for in kindness. Lectures feel longer than three hours but Jenkins truly wants you to succeed and enjoy your time
This course was insightful, over the semester, Catherine had assisted in defining how risk communication works, and the best courses of action which need to be taken. She is a great professor, and a great individual who always puts her students ahead of herself. I would recommend anyone taking this course or any other course she has to offer.
meh, she's pretty nice and all but I don't understand her grading scheme. She gave out less homework and no quizzes compared to other profs which i liked.

Professor Jenkins is one of the kindest and most respected professors I have ever had the pleasure of being taught by. Not only is she extremely knowledgable but she cares deeply about the well being and optimal learning environment/techniques for her students success. Take her courses :) she's great!
Prof. Jenkins gives full effort to making the class interesting but does not succeed in doing so. Lectures go the full 3 hours, she is a very hard marker, and feedback is not timely and thoughtful. Do not take this course if it is not mandatory.
As a first year BTM student, this is the prof you want for CMN124. The course is very simple and straight forward with no exams. Can be very boring but she does her best to make it fun. Assignments are pretty easy. She will respect you and like you a lot if you participate Unlike the other profs for CMN124 she does not give out quizs every class
I'm taking her again next semester because she's an amazing prof
I love her she's very knowledgeable and organized. She gives good feedback and explains to you exactly what you need to improve on. She makes lecture fun and interactive by doing short group work. No quizzes just assignments that you can finish at home but there is a presentation near the end of the sem worth a lot.
I loved Catherine. She was very understanding and took the time to learn everyone's names. It was a mandatory writing course so obviously it was very dry, but she did all that she could to make it interesting. I learned a lot from her. She is a hard marker though, but if you go to her for help she is very great!
Really good prof, helps you if you need extra help. Going to class is mandatory, and there are weekly quizzes based on chapters in the textbook which are easy if you actually just read the chapters. no exam, final presentation, which she is lenient on :) Show up to class & be a hard worker, complete all work with good effort and its an easy A
Catherine is one of the best profs I have had from my first semester at Ryerson. She is really nice and always helps. We had weekly quizzes on chapters- just read the textbook and you'll be good- plus the quizzes are usually common sense. do come to class as those quizzes are 2% each, so you won't want to miss them.
I had her for my CMN 124 course, going straight to the point we had weekly quizzes which counts for about 16% of our final grade, and the other assignments. She did mark fairly hard where on the typed assignments I did not get over a 75%, even when I got it revised by different editors. All in all shes a nice prof and fairly tough marker.
She is truly amazing! Trust me when I say this. I had 3 classes with her. I got A's in CMN414 and CMN315 with her. She is caring, sweet, and extremely understanding. I had 2 emergencies during the semester, and she gave me an extension without doubting me, unlike most professors. BEST PROFESSOR AT RYERSON, hands down. Clear expectations, and easy A
The feedback given by Dr. Jenkins is second to none. She makes time to answer all questions from students. I will be using the Analytical Report completed in this class as a template for many upcoming assignments. This professor truly cares about her students. Very refreshing.
She is the worst professor for this course. She gives great feedback but she marks brutally. No matter how hard you try with extra support from the writing center plus putting in the effort, she legit will not give you higher than a 75%. Worst prof for this course. It is an online course and she made it extremely stressful and difficult
She is very nice and gives excellent feedback. She also replies to emails but the only problem with her is that she treats this course like an ENGLISH course. She marks assignments brutally hard. No matter how hard you try it is impossible to get higher than 70s. I am not sure about the other course she teaches but she is horrible for CMN279
No Just No, she makes this online course too hard for no reason. My friends all got As while I tried so hard and barely got a B+. avoid this professor
Horrible prof, save yourself the trouble. I am still shocked how she got so many good reviews. Awful
terrible prof
She is a really tough marker. Makes this course extremely hard for no reason. I dont understand why. She gives good feedback tho
She is a nice proff but a very tough marker. Her lectures are long and boring, midterms are difficult as well. Lectures always have an overwhelming amount of information and she expects you to do the readings always. Attendance is also mandatory. You have to go above and beyond to get a decent grade. If you have the choice, pick a different proff
She is amazing. My favourite professor from my first semester at Ryerson. She gives amazing feedback and is a fair marker. If you listen to her advice, edit, revise and get writing support when you need it, you'll be good in her class. She is also very good at responding to emails/meeting outside of office hours. Wonderful woman.
Nice prof! She provides useful feedback and is very approachable. I enjoyed her class.
Catherine is a great professor with engaging lectures. Assignments/readings are super easy and will guarantee you an A.
Catherine is a professor who clearly cares about her students. Although her lectures can be a bit dry at times, you can tell she is passionate about what she is teaching. The course does not require a textbook but there were many supplementary readings for the group project and papers. The grading is fair but by no means an easy A.
Lectures are very dull. Although she has a clear grading scheme, she is a hard marker even if you think you're following what she wants.
Her lectures are extremely boring and she is maybe the most difficult marker i have ever encountered in my 4 years of college/uni education. Her feedback does not match up with the grades given. Even when given the opportunity to do better, correcting from her given feedback does not increase your grades. Highly recommend avoiding her.
Great prof and easy credit as long as you do the work with a decent amount of effort put in. Lots of writing but not crazy. Make sure you have a good group and don't leave the project to the last minute. Remember its a issues in communication class!
Catherine is a really helpful and understanding professor. I don't think she's an easy marker, but definitely fair. She is extremely knowledgeable , nice and gives really good feedback. If you put some effort into your work, an A could be easily obtained.
Catherine is probably one of my favourite procom profs at Ryerson. She's always available outside of class and gives good feedback when it comes to assignments. Lots of reading quizzes but overall the course isn't too bad.
She gives you feedback with assignments before handing them in through her in class workshops. I never went to the first one, and thats why I got a 65% on my first assignment. But I started attending all of them and I ended up with a really good grade in the course. She isnt a bad prof. Shes very understanding and kind.
Catherine has been my favourite prof at Ryerson since I met her. I have taken 2 classes with her, and am hoping I'll get her again. She really cares about all of her students, and everything learned in her classes are useful in other communications courses. She has hands down taught me the most out of every prof I've ever had. She's the best!
One of my favourite Professors at Ryerson. She genuinely cares about her students and their success. I've taken multiple classes with her and enjoy her teaching style. She explains course content to ensure students understand and encourages feedback from students.
Her lectures are so pointless and boring. She takes attendance and gives participation marks because thats the only way kids will show up. She marks so hard and gives you a 60 or 70 and only tell you 1 or 2 things u did wrong that are so small. Terrible class. Would never take it with her. Only a different prof.
Her lectures are very boring, you don't need them to do any of the assignments. Although she quickly skims over the lectures, she does provide some class time to work on the projects. She takes too long to grade papers so you won't get feedback before you have to do the next paper. Participation marks is not solely based on attendance!!
I thought CCMN279 would be an absolute breeze. However, if you take this professor, you wont do as well as you expect to be doing for such an easy and mediocre class. Absolutely takes FOREVER (I MEAN IT) to grade assignments and her feedback doesnt match up with the work of your assignment. I did OK but would absolutely NOT take her again
Professor Catherine Jenkins is an incredible professor!! She is very engaging and gives excellent feedback when it comes to assignments. I really appreciate her knowledge and enthusiasm especially during COVID-19 . If you do the readings, and go through the criteria on what is expected on the assignments, you will get a great mark.
This was an intensive, so it was going to be a challenging course. Prof Jenkins was very clear that attendance, participation and readings were required. She recorded slides prior to class so you could view them at your own pace. She was inspiring, patient and a bit of a hard marker. If you take notes and follow instructions, you will do well.
Catherine is ABSOLUTELY amazing! She is a gem who genuinely cares for her students, wants them to succeed & provides support. Classes are extremely helpful & she transitioned online very well, her feedback is great & as long as you care, you'll do great in the course! One of the best communication profs & she made the content good! I wasn't bored!
Honestly take her if you can. I learned so much in this course and did well! She gives amazing feedback which you can use towards your next assignments. Quizzes are a bit difficult but manageable. If you put in time you will do amazing in this course. Definitely taking this professor again.
Catherine is amazing and a pleasure to learn from - her understanding and willingness to accommodate when I had some unforeseen circumstances (in an online intensive in the middle of a pandemic, no less) were above and beyond what I was expecting. Still, these aren't bird courses and she's very upfront about that from day one. Effort is required!
Dr. Jenkins is like Mother Ryerson. She is endearing, kind and smart as funk! Yup, funk! Funk ya! She'll even love this review, that's how cool cat she is! Look up Banksy. Take her class. Listen. Learn. Understand how profoundly brilliant this woman is when you get to experience her live. She's deep. She's lived, and through that, I learned.
Dr. Jenkins is one of the best professors at Ryerson! She is the kindest and most understanding professor I've ever had. Her expectations are clear and her grading criteria are very fair, if followed, you will do well. Professor Jenkins is ALWAYS there for extra help and her desire for you to succeed is apparent. I love her and her classes!!
She is such a wonderful professor! Truly cares for her students and is available at all times. Would definitely take a class with her again.
Provides good feedback, can be a hard marker if you don't do citations properly other than that she grades fairly, interesting lectures, learned a lot from this course and really enjoyed it. Overall, great class and great prof.
Dr. Jenkins is such a GEM! Not only is she incredibly smart, but she's also caring and compassionate towards her students, and is always trying to help everyone do their best. She also handled the transition to online classes super smoothly and kept her lectures fun and engaging. Even if you struggle a bit, she always does her best to help!
Nice prof, a bit of a hard marker. Weekly discussion posts to complete, but they are not hard. Assignments aren't very hard, maybe a bit time consuming, especially the last one (report) is worth half the grade.
The course was very organized and the assignments were quite straightforward. I found her to be very picky when marking, and she would sometimes give unclear and insufficient feedback. I followed the rubric, guidelines, and examples for all assignments, and she would give feedback that went against what was laid out in the instructions.
Professor Jenkins is very knowledgeable and overall a good professor. Grading is pretty tough but there are many chances to improve your grade through weekly quizzes and peer evaluations. This class was a lot of work, but still manageable.
I took her class through Chang and it was in person. She's a very picky marker and marks hard, but if you have her in person through Chang she literally edits your assignment if you have it done early before its due and gives you all the feedback necessary to ensure you get a high grade. No exam. Not sure how she'd be online. Super nice
Dr J is not an easy marker by any means but she is incredibly understanding and willing to work with you as much or as little as you need! Personally I didn't love the group project aspect of the syllabus, but she takes peer assessment into account to make sure no one ends up doing the whole thing. Interesting lectures, always ready to help!
nice prof but inconsistent and picky with grading. her grading somewhat contradicts what is listed on the rubrics. expectations for an assignment are given during the class that it is due. no feedback given-just minor errors pointed out (ex. APA formatting, spelling/grammar)
Hard marker. No compassion especially to understand the circumstances we're in. Weekly quizzes are hard.
Tough grader with feedback that doesn't match the work you have done.
Jenkins is amazing! You will learn something in this class. I would 100% take another class with her. Loved her teaching style. She cares a lot about her students. You have to work for your mark but it's very rewarding in the end.
One of the greatest prof that I had at Ryerson. She is super accommodating to everyone in class and cares about our success in the course. The quizzes were a bit hard, so make sure to do the readings before hand. The assignments were a graded a bit tough, but as long as you follow all the criteria and instructions, you should do well overall.
While she was a tough grader and the quizzes relied heavily on the readings, she is by far the most compassionate, caring, kind and thoughtful professor I have had all semester. with COVID, my job was unforgiving with hours and she accommodated me every time. I'm taking another Comms class just to have her teach me! Highly recommend
Don't take her lmao. If you don't show up to class and stay on top of your work you'll get a trash grade. COVID19 is hard on all of us but it seems like she thinks we are all just being lazy. Not the brightest student and this pandemic put me through a slump but to her she assumed that I was not organized (well duh zoom university isnt a breeze).
A tough grader but a very kind professor. She keeps it real. 10/10 would take her again. CMN 279 isn't a difficult course as long as you skim through the slides, the quizzes and assignments are fair and easy. No midterms for this class - only weekly quizzes, small assignments, a group project, & an oral presentation over a topic of your choice.
Had to put in work to get an A- in this course, but overall she was very kind and did a good job of clarifying any issues I had with the assignments.
With this class being completely asynchronous, Dr. Jenkins did a good job at facilitating it. A weekly discussion board where only your top 8 counted for your grade. Then 3 assignments, that were all graded fairly. Since this was a mandatory communications course, it was not the most fascinating course. But Dr. Jenkins was a good professor overall.
The prof taught a communication course and didn't allow us to speak... we had to use the chat box in zoom. attendance was mandatory and the prof is so boring and monotone and it's hard to focus with her. she expected us to make assignments on topics she teaches the week the assignment was due... ridiculous. wouldn't recommend
Made a recent rating for CCMN315 and once again a fantastic professor she was for CMN306. She extremely cares for your success in the course and she marks assignments fair as long as you follow the instructions and you ask questions about your assignments during her office hours. Make sure to have a decent group for the group assignment component.
Compared to the other professors I had, she is actually really easy for marking. She did mark a bit tougher on the final assignment worth 50% but still a lot easier than the other professors. She's also good too at answering questions most of the time.
I think this is common amongst all CMN 279 classes but the profs for this course mark very hard. I don't think this is just Catherine Jenkins but in general, it's always very hard to know what we are supposed to be doing for assignments. Not a terrible class or prof though but also not the best.
Catherine is very personable, if you enjoy discussing social issues you will love her. She is very understanding and will offer support where she can. Catherine does not hand back grades on time for future assignments. For a technology course, Catherine is not reliable. Very harsh grader for someone that cannot answer student questions.
I currently have Dr. Jenkins for this winter 2022 semester, and I enjoy having them. They are very passionate and willing to help you during office hours. However, she promises to return marks, however, she does not. . Everyone is fed up with her not returning marks, but I simply stay positive and understand as to why we have not received marks.
Professor Jenkins is a pretty laid back prof, as long as you do what she says and show passion for your report piece, you're on your way to a solid grade. This semester, she's been slow to give back assignments but has accommodated to bump back due dates to compensate - compared to what I hear in other classes, she's a pretty chill CMN 313 prof
Dr. Jenkins is very kind, they are willing to assist you during office hours, and I highly suggest taking advantage. Overall a fair and decent marker. However. I did not learn much from the content because we have been simply doing everything. If you can, I suggest taking a course with Dr. Jenkins; you will learn a lot about rhetorical analyses.
IF U TRULY WANT TO LEARN, THEN TAKE PROF JENKINS. Get ready to do A LOT of work as u will have weekly homework like assignments, discussion boards, and workshops. Very caring and truly cares about her students & their learning. Puts in so much effort. Lectures are boring as she keeps repeating info that students already know about over and over.
I enjoyed having Dr. Jenkins! They are one of the most kindest and nicest profs ever. Although they mark hard sometimes, I would definitely take another class with her as I was challenged. Take Dr. Jenkins for any cmn class, you will not regret it.
Great Professor. If you read the textbook its an easy A, as the quizzes are based on the text and so is the theory in the projects. Lots of quiz questions straight out of the textbook
She is a very honest and upfront teacher which can be very helpful when communicating with each other. The course is a bit lecture-heavy but also has an online component in which you'll learn mostly editing. Overall, I would take classes with this professor again because of her commitment to connecting with the class throughout the semester.
Good discussions during class with peers and professors input. Very lecture heavy and course readings are needed for weekly quizzes
Catherine is a professor you can tell cares about her students. I was confused on an assignment and she explained it to me until I got it. There is a textbook but it's optional to purchase. There are no tests and no exams, just a few assignments which she thoroughly explains the criteria for. 10% of your grade you can earn by showing up.
Catherine is a very caring and knowledgable prof. I had her a few times throughout my BA and learned something every time. She really cares about students' well being.
Dr. Jenkins is an unreasonably tough grader. The course content was not hard to understand, but no matter how well you think you did, she is going to mark 10-15% less than that. She took a very long time to return marks for our last two assignments (worth 55% of our grade), so no one knew where they stood in the class. Overall: avoid this prof.
Incredible professor. Clear instructions, explains content well, many opportunities to do well in her class. She's responsive, compassionate and cares about whether her students actually understand the content. 10/10 class and professor.
This class was entirely online and i never saw or heard from the prof at all as it was all through a simulation program. She was a slightly hard marker, the class was disorganized (didn't have guidelines for one project until a weekish before it was due) and the exam seemed like it hadn't been updated to reflect what we were actually learning.
Prof gave very good feedback and marked pretty fairly in my opinion. Ametros modules we did were good for teaching me how to apply course concepts, though the actual graded assignments felt like busy work. Probably would've enjoyed the course more if it was in person as the lack of personal connection made it difficult to enjoy this course.
I had her during Fall 2023 and she was the typical English teacher from high school essentially. Throughout the sem, I did not see her once because this course is async and was done through a simulation program. The class was quite disorganized because assignments would be released very close to the deadline and marked quite hard.
nice thru email and easy grader
She cares about what she teaches and also cares a lot about her students. She's also accommodating and easy to reach. In class she opens up discussion to the class which makes learning the material better and is clear with assignment criteria. BUT she talks sooo much, every class we would go over the time limit :(
(This is for CMN390, it wasn't listed). This was my third class taken with Prof. Jenkins and she's amazing! Such a nice person, gives great feedback, answers emails quickly, and marks fairly. Definitely try to take a class with her if you have the chance.
Dr. Jenkins is very kind and approachable. Assignment feedback is generally not helpful as it is limited and not detailed. Makes it very easy to succeed in this course, and teaches the content so it is understandable, no matter your learning style. Super easy course, and a lovely teacher. Definitely take any CMN course with Dr. Jenkins.
Dr Jenkins is actually a nice person. But I dread taking her classes and avoid her if I can. She is accomodating but her classes always have a lot of lecture content and looootts of reading. And you cannot escape the readings because she quizzes you on them. I just don't enjoy her classes. I find shes a tough marker too and everything is theory,
Professor Jenkins is so kind and caring. Her lectures and labs were so helpful and she replies to emails on time.
Super objective grading with limited guidelines on assignments. Assignment expectations are ambiguous, and she grades according to how she feels. Lectures are boring, outdated and will put you to sleep.
Dr. Jenkins was very accommodating and helpful throughout the semester. Would reccomend!
Jenkins is okay. Its a comics class, so take it as a bird course but u kinda need to be into comics do well. 2 papers, 1500 words, comic creation was easy w an online creator which was allowed. Papers took forever to be marked, but the GAs were good. Lectures are so boring, I always went and was on my phone the whole time. its not that serious
She is passionate. Will answer your questions with patience and care about you. The course isn't hard at all but she takes it seriously and gives you constructive feedback if you ask for it. I learnt a lot in her class. The rubric is also very clear and helps guiding us in the works
Dr. Jenkins is a kind and passionate professor, but can be a tough grader. The content is manageable, and attendance is mandatory. Unstuck ai was helpful for study prep.
Tough grader
i took ccmn443 but not listed. easy class, she is explains concepts well and very knowledgable. grading was good and easy. participation, paper, presentation, outlines, and midterm/exam online. i got 70 on both paper and presentation but still got a A+ (90.4 to be exact). highly rec this class and prof, she is very lovely
Very kind and accommodating, easy to understand, explains course theory and assignment instructions clearly and engagingly. All classes aren't mandatory but participation does matter the DB post will catch up.
I think she's a really fun teacher to have. She's very passionate about the topic and cares about her students! I really liked the discussion board topics, but I struggled on the second essay (I don't like writing essays; maybe that's why). This course is the extreme version of liking comics; be ready!!
She's a sweet lady, easy course but long lectures, half the mark is 2 open book tests, and participating. Other half is 1 presentation, 1 report, and outlines for them. This half was marked harder tbh but the tests and participation are marked so easy and carry ur grade lwk. Not insanely hard but mostly low 80s, where most ppl got 95s on the tests
She was great, I enjoyed being in her class! She is a bit of a tough grader, but she does help her students in any way she can. She has rubrics for each assignment, giving you a clear idea of what she expects from each assignment. Most importantly, she cares about her students a lot.
Although her lectures are boring, she's a really kind and accommodating prof. She's a harsh marker, but she always gives good feedback.
