She makes this class into a 300 level class. She assigns a large amount of readings each week and expects you to read them by the first lecture of the week. The midterm is easy, and she assigns 4 quizes which are do-able IF you do the readings and take good notes. If you do the readings, you'll do well. BUt if you hate reading, then don't take it.
Wow...this class SUCKS. She makes you do A LOT of readings sometimes over 100 pages and it must be done within a few days. Like the other rater said this class should be a 300 level, not l00. There is a lot of work, also assigned seats, pop-quizzes, exams are mostly a essay on a vague question. No understands what her questions mean!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS...NOT A GPA BOOSTER! WILL KILL YOUR GPA...SHE IS MEAN AND DOESN'T CARE ABOUT HER STUDENTS.
She seems to enjoy watching kids fail. Don't take her class, and spit on her if you see her walking in the street.
FIRST DAY of class...Professor Lee was a B*tch. Last day of class still the same. *This will NOT help your GPA, she does not round up the grades either. I got a 79 and wouldnt give me a damn B. She's the worst teacher ever!! To Professor LEE: GO BACK TO CALI. We dont like you here at RU!!!!
She's great, this is the easiest A you will ever get, the other people are lying
Easy A? haha...you're kidding right? You must of been **** when you wrote that rating. Seriously, Let's be honest, this class and professor sucks. If you like reading over 100 pages per week, sitting in assigned seats, taking pop quizzes, and listening to a professor that doesnt care if you fail...yea then sure go ahead and take then.
The first day she was a "****" i quit right when she opened her mouth, i think she had a horrible childhood and now takes it out on her students.
C.Lee is a crazy woman. This is quite evident from the minute i heared her speak. no sympathy for students, and not a nice person at all. Authoritarian attitude towards teaching and a total ****. tends to take all comments about her and the class personally and takes it out on all students. i dropped this class after the first lecture. stay away
why anyone would stay in this class after meeting this prof boggles my mind? she's a **** and she will **** ur grade. stay away !!
Dr. Lee is very challenging. However, you learn a lot from this course. If you attend her office hours she is very helpful. Her exams are difficult, but if you study hard you will do well. The only thing that I would change in this course were her quizes. She said they were to reward students; however, you did need to look over your notes.
i think there is something seriously wrong with her. she has unreal expectations of her students where it's like she thinks we are only taking her class and nothing else. she teaches this course like it's a 300 or 400 level course with a 300 level course load. not worth your time or effort. don't take this class. save yourself.
I think she is very organized and knows what she is doing. She definitely tries to get the students to pay attention and hold interest. The reading she assigns are long and sometime hard to understand, but useful. I definitely liked it a lot, one of the more useful courses at rutgers. if you get to know her, she's really nice, i swear!
She's a good professor. She comes off as a **** on the first day but don't let her intimidate you. Good class, definately learned some stuff. You can get a good grade, but u have to do the readings, and go to class. Some notes not in readings. Participation is mandatory for a good grade. Mutiliple questions, T/F, essay, and short answer.
very tough class. unreal expectations for a 100 level class. teaches class like it should be a 400 level class. i did all the reading and work, and only received a B. don't take her class.
This class is so easy. I can't even believe some of the comments saying it's difficult. She def. trys to intimidate students on the first day but she's really a great teacher. As long as you go to class and take notes it's impossible to do bad in this class. I've probably only received 4 A's at Rutgers and this class was one of them!
though she tries to come off like its going to be a real hard class the first days, it wasnt bad at all. u had to do the readings, but i didnt think they were that complicated. if you go to class and take notes u should do well. it isnt as hard as most ppl say. i liked the class.
She can come off as a b*tch at times. The material's not that hard as long as you pay attention in lecture and do the readings.
Professor Lee is one of my favorite professors at Rutgers. Don't listen to the idiots that called her names. They’re most likely the students who can't keep their mouth shuts in lectures and don't do the readings. She is extremely helpful and willing to go over exams and any questions in office hours. Also, she has a great sense of style.
I had prof. Lee for minority groups, and she never once tripped over a question. she's VERY knowledgeable. Sometimes she can come across as mean, but I think its just her passion being misunderstood. The class isn't that hard if you go to lecture and do the readings. I really enjoyed it
A decent professor. The class isn't bad but you just have to make sure you understand the material (meaning lecture,a couple videos and readings - which can be a little lengthy at times, my only complaint for this class). otherwise a good professor and an interesting class.
Yeah this class is hard, if you couldnt pass 5th grade history. seriously, skim over the readings, go to class sometimes and use basic multiple choice test skills. regardless shes a total hottie, RECOMMENDED
This was a really interesting class. Prof. Lee knows what she is talking about-very knowledgeable. You have to do the readings (which can be long) and get a general understanding of the material...Quizzes aren't bad, but midterm is a little harder. You can def. get an A in this class if you go to class and study.
Her lectures were quite interesting and all tests were heavily based on them. Even though she emphasized heavy reading material, I never read any of the articles and still managed an A in the class. She can be a real **** when you approach her for help in office hours. Don't go to office hours unless you read the material.
She will give you slides from her lectures but they are vague and you need to go to class and pay attention to her. I kinda slacked in the class so I don't see why you can't do well in it. she's a bit of a **** though
Good professor, interesting class. Attendance is necessary because most of the stuff on the quizzes and exams comes for her notes and lectures. Pay attention to the key points she talks about after watching videos, have a basic understanding of the readings, and pay attention in class and you'll probably get an A.
had her for minority groups. seems mean but is a good teacher. do the readings and homework pay attention in class and youll be fine. nothing to worry about
I found her very helpful and approachable. Lots of readings, but if you get the basic concept you'll be ok. She is definitely willing to help students. I didn't find her to be that harsh. Just go to class and take notes. See her during office hours to make sure you understand the material
This class is not an easy A. Granted, i slacked off and got a B, prof Lee's Minority Grps is not for the faint of heart. Boring lectures, extensive online readings, makes this class seem like it is a 400 level class. Avoid if possible.
Great teacher. Usually lets you out a bit early. Must go to class, all the tests come straight from her lecture word for word. VERY EASY A if you go!
This class is really interesting and I enjoyed attending it. But dont even bother seeing her outside class. She is really difficult to talk to. If your not dumb, and you go to class and read the long articles you'll get a B. an A is tough to get.
for Soc 108- Great teacher, very straight and to the point, easy quizzes, midterm I got a 71 and Final 98, My grade was like a 89 and she gave me an A. Lets you out a bit early a few times. All the tests come straight from her lecture word for word. VERY EASY A if you go!
Seemingly nice/helpful. Said it was going to be challenging, but did not expect about 100 pages of reading per week nor 4, 15 SPECIFIC question quizzes which were based off of about 8 lectures, 1-2 movies and ALL readings which were considered "fair game". Cumulative final, useless office hrs, VERY stubborn. INFORMATION OVERLOAD. AVOID CLASS!!!!!!!
Very annoying readings given and quizzes that are almost unpreparable for. Teacher is very stubborn and does not do a good job of teaching. Overall, a bad professor and a bad class in which you probably will not learn much or have fun in.
she curves even though she said she doesnt. all i did was study her lectures, facebooked during the videos (i eventually stopped going for those) and got an A in the class. questions aren't specific they are literally off her lecture or what she elaborated on. just understand main concept of readings/weekly reading questions. everyones exaggerating
This class is not an easy A, maybe an easy B. There were a lot of readings every week, and 4 quizes with only 15 questions. The questions come pretty much from her lectures, so you should go. Read the readings occasionally and you should be ok.
Decent professor--appears to be condescending and not very good at answering questions. No textbook but she warned about NUMEROUS articles that will be assigned. 3 exams (15 questions each) and 1 final (40 questions). You have to stay on top of the readings otherwise it will become overwhelming. Said she doesn't curve but she did. HARD CLASS.
The class is very hard for a 108 class! My 200 level classes are so much easier than hers. I think shes nice but I truly think shes taking this class way too seriously for a 100 level class! the readings and the amount of work is too much. You can take any other 100 level course in soc and i bet you will get a much better grade than in this class
She is an okay professor...she is just very vague when answering questions sometimes I find her answers to questions to be more confusing than before the actual question. She is also a no BS kind of person. Gives tons of reading which is hard to keep up with...quizzes are fair and midterm was a bit difficult but not impossible.
Everyone is exaggerating. Her lectures are really interesting she incorporates good material and can be funny, pay attentiong to them-her quiz ?'s come STRAIGHT from them. Not very helpful if you ask her questions. ALOT of reading-abt 30-40 pages a week of tough material. Read it, listen to her lectures, and your guaranteed an A.
Here is the thing, the topics are interesting, but it is the way she teaches it that makes me want to walk out of class. She is very broad about everything but yet she expects you to remember a lot of details. She is not good at answering questions at all! So don't bother asking her anything cuz her answers will not help you at all so don't bother
I don't get why people on the reviews are giving her flak. I'm not that smart of a student in academics and my quiz grades were just fine. I guess it's different for everybody. My advice for anyone who has her is to go to the lectures, copy down what she says, and skim the readings.
I was skeptical coming into this course because of the negative reviews. IT WAS NOT AT ALL WHAT I EXPECTED. I took this course as an elective and it was not at all difficult. Go to every class, take notes not only on what's on the slides but what she says and review the day before quizzes/exams. I never read any of the readings and got an A.
For a 100 level course, the readings are absurd. She does not clearly teach the points across in her class. There were 4 quizzes and two exams which isn't bad. But the fact that she tries to teach this course like a graduate level class is irritating. I was interested before taking this class, but she really dulls the topics.
Guys, please do yourself a favor and don't listen to the comments. Professor Lee is one the greatest women and professors i've ever taken. Very cool class (this is coming from a guy who wanted to drop on day 1.) the grade is based on 4 quizzes (slides), and exams that test your knowledge of the readings. Her curve at the end gave me an A. TAKE HER!
Got an A without ever doing the readings, Just go to class!! I think she changed the structure of her class this semester now she only has 4 tests non cumulative. Also there is weekly memos that are only half a page, all you need to do is skim the readings because shell give you questions to help you with the memos. Oh and you can miss up to 3 memo
Go to class, study for the tests, and skim through the readings and you'll be fine. There are four noncumulative tests and a half page response to the readings every week (you can skip three of them). She can be really funny and everything is clear. I would definitely take it again!
If you go to lecture, do the readings, and look over your notes you will get an A. Her lectures are boring but its worth it for an A. There are only 4 tests which are 20% each and your homework for 20% to make up your grade. I bombed one test and got a B. The tests are 20 questions MC so each question is 1% of your final grade and there isno curve.
Honestly, this class was so easy. If you go to class, take your notes, and study you're deff getting a B+ or A. The memos (once a week) only have to be half a page, so easy. All these readings people are complaining about YOU DONT HAVE TO FULLY READ in order to pass. you can bs and ur good. Participation doesn't matter, no final or midterm.
Great professor- mainly teaches 108, which is different from most lectures. There's no textbook- only articles and primary source reading. She's VERY witty, sweet, and fair, and knows her stuff. Her tests are mainly on lectures with questions from the reading and videos, and are straightforward if you go to class. She's also quirky and liberal :) .
Great experience. She knows her stuff and loves her subject. Class well organized, lectures interesting. She's very approachable and loves to help.
Sweet, interesting teacher. Need to go to class, but easy B or A if you put in work. No textbook necessary for 108
4 exams and memos every week. she lets you skip 2 memos. the exams are easy as long as you go to class and take notes. The readings you can just skim over and you will be fine. No textbook.
She's very knowledgable and quirky. I enjoyed her class surprisingly. I'm a science major who took this as an elective. 4 exams (20 MC on all of them,) weekly memos due based on the readings for that week (you can skim) and you can skip 2 memos. I recommend attending class cause it'll make your life a lot easier. Overall, a good GPA booster!
Good prof, pay attention in class, do the readings you should be good.
Highly recommend taking her class, wonderful professor I enjoyed going to her lectures she's funny and sweet we talked about a lot of controversial topics which made it interesting there's 4 exams, all 20 questions multiple choice, pretty straight forward & she doesn't assign a textbook but gives out readings that are kinda boring but on the exams
prof lee is awesome, and her class is fairly easy. she doesn't take attendance, so even if you don't show up all the time, she has shortened lecture notes online that will help. her tests are really straight forward- 20 questions multiple choice. sometimes the lectures can be boring and the readings suck, but very not hard at all
Professor Lee is very passionate about her subjects and gives really interesting points of view during her lectures. The work load isn't difficult, 1 page review of readings due every week and four 20 questions MP tests that are so unbelievably easy. She doesn't take attendance but i still actually went to class most days because lectures are good
Prof Lee is super sweet and actually cares about the students she has. You will need to read a lot for the class but the material is pretty interesting if you are interested in the subject. The tests are super easy if you go to class, take notes, and do the required reading.
Best class i've taken ever. Prof Lee is a sweetheart a genuinely cares about her students beyond the class. Lectures are really interesting and eye opening. tests are straight forward and work load isnt heavy at all!
This class was truly amazing, Professor Lee is one of a kind. The class is 4 exams and weekly memos, although attendance isn't mandatory you should go because it is easy to miss out on a lot of information that would be on the exams. Recommend this for anyone who enjoys sociology, but also wants an easy A.
Amazing professor. Such an interesting class, and she made it so much better. Very inspirational, and respect her so much. Definitely take this class! Do the work, pay attention in class, tests questions are straight-forward.
Professor Lee assigns an immense amount of homework. Its hard to keep up when you have a full time schedule. Very briefly goes over topics in lecture. But she does challenge students and gives good feedback.
She likes to take about two weeks to grade an exam. If you like the thrill of waiting for your exam grade every day take this course.
She loves to assign lots of weekly long readings. She doesn't seem to consider that students have other classes besides hers.
I took this class after reading all of the "easy A" reviews but this year she decided to make harder exams with short answer questions and an essay portion to make sure the students understand. Just beware because it is annoying.
She seems alright in class but she is incredibly bias and says a lot of non factual things. She is a tough grader. She assigns a ton of reading that you have to do to pass. Don't take her if you're looking for an easy A.
She's a good person who is very passionate about what she teaches, but the amount of readings you have to do each week is overwhelming. If I weren't taking any classes but this one it'd be fine but obviously I am taking other classes so I don't have enough time to read everything. Definitely not an easy A class.
Professor assigns a lot of readings and you must read and memorize for exams. Exam questions are not always straight forward, and during lectures she can get off topic and it is very confusing.
Get ready to read sometimes 30 page articles for a mere one question on a quiz or exam. The setup of the course honestly isn't really fair and not only that but it sounds like an interesting class upon taking it. Well take the class and youll see how interesting it is.
One of my favorite professors. Took time out to meet with us in groups outside of class to get to know us. As long as you pay attention in lecture and study it is an easy A.
Professor Lee is very kind and understanding. Class isn't hard but if you don't watch the lectures it's not as interesting. Never did the readings but that didn't effect my performance.
she's so understanding if you fall behind or need extra help and she makes it clear that she cares about your mental health. there's a short quiz every week that's easy as long as you watch the lecture. she assigns long readings but i didn't read any of them and did fine. pretty easy course and i learned a lot, i'd def recommend!
She's a little awkward but definitely an amazing professor and Minority Groups in American Society is so cool. Prof. Lee definitely pays attention so don't try to use your phone but she also cares about her students and let us out early sometimes. Her tests are tricky but if you pay attention you'll be fine and you don't need to do the readings.
I took this class async, the easiest A ever. I put her lectures on every Friday night as a podcast while cleaning my dorm. The weekly quizzes are very easy, 3-4 multiple choice questions based on the lecture. The writing prompts are very confusing though, repetitive and say the same thing but she says they are "different". But she grades lightly.
I'm not sure what changed with her, but she's not like the reviews anymore. She assigns a lot of reading per week and expects you to cite a good majority of them in discussions and essays. Her midterm essay question was very vague with unclear grading criteria. Also super behind in grading so no one knows where they stand.
If there's other professors, take those instead. She is not like the reviews. She is a tough grader and didn't grade anything until after the drop period. There is no extra credit and no understanding from her if you have a medical emergency. She seems nice, but then turns very passive aggressive. Very vague with wording on assignments & everything
At first she seemed okay, but she is often upset at the grades my class as a whole are getting. She also gives quizzes that have very very similar answer choices. And takes a while to grade. She seems like a good person, but not my favorite prof.
Professor Lee assigns long readings each week for class, if you can complete these long readings and be heavily engaged in the long lectures you will be fine in her class. However at times her lectures can get boring so beware of that. Tests were ten questions and were not hard if you did all the readings and paid attention to the long lectures.
Grades hard, always says you're not using enough outside resources when I incorporated multiple. Ended up putting a lot of effort into an asynch class (scared I wasn't going to end with an A). Made us have a meeting about our essay with her AFTER we submitted which made 0 sense because it's submitted..what is the point..you can't fix it anymore.
Not a a helpful or caring professor and she words things in a really confusing manner a lot of the times and stutters a lot in her lecture videos which is kinda funny actually. Would not recommend taking this class. Not that many assignments so your grade is really dependent on her discussion post and one essay grade and she grades tough. annoying.
her prompts and the way she words things are rlly, let's just say interesting... I feel like she wants to sound smart?? lol. Honestly you gotta decipher what she's trying to say bec of her diction. gets really passive agressive, not helpful, repeats herself a lot in her lecture videos, always behind on grading, not an easy A whatsoever
terrible and annoying
honestly one of my least favorite professors at rutgers. try not to take her if you can
one word: bombast
First asynch class that I took at Rutgers that I really disliked. Felt like I was honestly putting more effort into this class sometimes than my STEM classes because of her grading. She was also really behind on grading and her prompts were worded so weirdly / awkwardly. Lowk passive aggressive and not super helpful when you need help.
Middle of the road professor. Hard to get a good grade but hard to fail as well. Weekly readings that are long and a weekly quiz that isn't too hard if you did the reading. Final paper is weighted way too high so if you get anything lower than an A you'll probably end with lower than an A for your final grade.
If you have any self respect do not take as the professor DOES NOT respect students and will not offer help. Professor literally tried to scam me out of money and I'm talking several hundreds of dollars for spring 2025. Very unprofessional and mean. I do not feel safe having any interactions.
Unprofessional, rude and a scam artist. Tried to scam me out of several hundred dollars during spring 25 semester. If you have any self respect do not take under any circumstances even if it means pushing graduation back. Rutgers should not have this professor on staff. Do not feel safe during any interaction.
She is... how does one say, intense? I think she's trying too hard. I respect her craft as a professor, but I definitely would not take her class again. I took her for Law & Society, and at the beginning of the syllabus, she went on about how this is an intense course, yada yada, and I'm just like, hmm, this isn't that serious. Have a little fun!
I honestly really disliked her class, bro. I can't understand the way she frames assignments. Even when you get clarification, it's still a little strange. You know when someone is trying to be so thorough that they end up sounding confusing? Yeah, that's her
Taking her right now for law and soc (soc 349). Avoid her by any means necessary. Grading criteria and assignment prompts are a mystery. Her language is extremely confusing. Nitpicks at mistakes you don't even understand how you made, then gives no elaboration at all. Her grading is very harsh as well. Just do yourself a favor and avoid.
Professor Lee is very knowledgeable in her field but assigns an excessive amount of work..surprisingly so for an undergraduate course. While I appreciate that she sends reminders about missed assignments, some students may find this overly persistent and annoying. If you have a type A personality you will enjoy. If not well... I would NOT suggest!
Man, If I could stop myself from registering I would. Thats all folks
Im currently taking her for Law and Society (asychronous). I graduate in 2 weeks, & if I could've chosen a different professor for this class, I would've. For an ASYNCHRONOUS class, she makes you have MANDATORY Meetings on zoom discussing your essays. Talks to you like a child. I suggest anyone to steer far away from her. Worst professor I've had.
I have had Professor Lee for two courses now, and she is incredibly knowledgeable and really cares about her students- something that is rare for an online course. She has given me amazing feedback and pushed me to become a better student. I would recommend.
She was incredibly disrespectful to me, telling me that I didn't deserve to graduate and didn't deserve to go to grad school because I couldn't answer a question. talks to you like a child. really would not recommend unless you like to be berated.
