best teacher to get over being shy

Gives all the foreigners A, tougher for everyone else. Not fair.

Very good teacher! I took it during summer and it was very easy to pass. She helps you get ready to speak in front of an audience and to be more confident with yourself. I highly recommend this class.

She makes going to the front of the class easier. Makes speech a relax experiece for those who are shy.

She was a decent teacher, i didnt learn anything new, but it was an ok class. She is a bit of a tough grader, taking off points for small things, but its easy to get a good grade, i got an a, so long as you know how to do an outline properly.

Ms.Mcnamara is a nice teacher. I learn to built my self confidence in her class. A MUST TAKE CLASS!!!!!Highly recommended.....

Prof. McNamara is a wonderful person and a great teacher. She has a special, reaspectful way of addressing her students and criticizing them without making them feel like idiots. I enjoyed her class and will miss her calmness and positive energy.

Pretty good teacher for Speech 1. Would not recomment for highter levels, but she was really great at helping students feel comfortable infront of the class. Learned a great deal of useful skills and techniques.

she is nice and easy,but lectures are boring. if you just want an easy A and nothing more, she is for you. she seems to be easier for non-native speakers.

SHE IS EASY GRADER, ESP. FOR NON-NATIVE SPEAKERS BUT U NEED TO WORK HARD. SHE IS GOOD. 4 SPEECHES, ONE TAKE-HOME MID-TERM AND ONE FINAL(ONLY 50 POINTS OF 700 POINTS) TAKE HER.....

Great Professor! She is such a nice lady. She grades easy on speeches, but the quizzes, midterm, and final tests are pretty hard! I highly recommend her!!

She is the best Speech 1 prof at SMC. She is really caring and really wants you to do well. There are 4 speeches, midterm, final and a paper. After taking this class, you will feel really confident giving speeches. This class will benefit you in your other classes or in your future jobs. Worth taking ... No matter what your major is take this class

Great teacher that thoroughly explains speeches and assignments due, Begins class on time all the time. You can’t walk in late on someone’s speech. Whatever you do, don’t use the words “like or um” in your speech, drives her crazy. Grading is fair. Only dislike is that she will tell you what you did wrong in front of everybody. I think she sh

She's a very good speaker herself; so observe how she makes eye contact and speak and you'll learn.Very caring & considerate; never talk you down regardless how sloppy ur speech is, though she'll make comments on how to improve.Take her esp. if u have speech phobia/stage fright.Emphasize a lot on outline of speech; much more than delivery.

She is such a generous person with full of heart for students. Rather giving students confidence than discouraging them. I took her on winter and the class was just cool. You have to get over anxiety to face audiences. quizzes and midterm were take home except final. Easy A!

Class is boring, but creates comfortable environment. 3 take home quizzes, one take home midterm, one cumulative final. attendance is a must. 3 speeches...took her in summer. As a professor, shes seems nice at first, but annoyance shows at times. Overall, very easy class. Barely did work...got an A. Great speaker, but barely had contact with her.

This teacher is great. She makes class interesting and appliciable to life. She really helps her students achieve adequate public speaking skills. She gives 3 open notes quizzes, and one final. She is always there to help her students with their speeches. This class was an easy A! McNamara is a great teacher... so take speech with her!

Hybrid class: She was friendly and lenient. I didn?t learn very much with regards to speech technique, but the in-class assignments were not difficult, and the online assignments were bearable. If you?re serious about learning to improve your speaking skills, I wouldn?t recommend her; otherwise, it?s a great class for clearing that GE requirement.

There is not a lot of lectures but she does talk a lot and it's not that fun. The quizzes are take home, she embarrasses people during their speeches, give critism in front of the whole class.

Boring class, i'm not learning anything i can use later in life. She talks to you like you are a mentally challenged 5 year old. And always lokks down on you. She is really annoying. AND she will embarass you after giving a speech. I do not recomend this class.

Funny reading some of the negative comments here. She is helpful, understanding, and grades very generously. Almost everyone must have gotten AT LEAST a B in the course. Critiques fairly. Set yourself apart from everyone else and give her what she wants: A good and concise speech with lots of eye contact and enthusiasm and YOU WILL get an A.

She is a good teacher. It is a speech class so she speaks clear and is interesting. Sometimes her grading is dependent on her emotions, she can be a little rude during speeches, as in rushing a speaker if they go over time. But overall she doesn't expect a lot. Quizzes are take home and easy. Do good on the speeches and you should pass.

You will need textbook for take home multiple choice. The rest of the class is giving & listening to speeches (4 total). I was terrified of public speaking b4 this class but am now MUCH more confident. Prof encourages class member bonding and respect. Good experience overall!

This class is very easy and if you prepare for your speeches you'll do fine. Take home quizzes and a final. She gives you a lot of opportunities to get used to the front of the room.

Pretty easy class. She goes off on a bunch of tangents when trying to explain stuff. Only thing you really need to know is the IPA. If your good at speaking and know the IPA you'll do fine.

Good teacher.If you show her you care then she will help you alot with your speeches.She is condescending to some of the speakers,but she wasn't with me because she knew I cared about giving good speeches.

it was not an easy class, however i would recomend you all to take her com st 11 class because the class is very straight foward. 4 take home quizzes and 1 final exam. as long as you show you care about the class, you would able to get an A. NICE teacher and just a little moody.

Easy A

overall its an easy A but you should study for the final although it seems like it doesn't matter much, it does.I don't have any complaints for the professor, keeps the class interesting, although I'm glad I took it during winter because it would have been too boring during a full semester.

Professor McNamara is absolutely AMAZING! She is a fair grader when it comes to making speeches, though watchout - she takes points off if you're too short on time! Take home quizzes based on book and final in class based on lecture notes. Attendance = points too.Winter was great! Class environment was awesome! Enjoy! Don't be nervous! I got 'A'.

I took this class last year during the summer. I am a junior in high-school now and I passed this class with flying colors. She is the best teacher I have ever had. I recommend her whole heartedly because she is very helpful and understanding. My speeches weren't perfect but I got better. It's an enjoyable class and the quizzes are take-home.

I took her at WLAC. She requires 3 speeches, and she is very lenient; a lot of people did not show up on their day and she still let them do their speech. Quizzes are easy and the final covers her lectures. She can come off as rude sometimes, but that's because she's frustrated with stupid students - a lot of people do not follow the guidelines...

I took the hybrid class. Its super easy. She is very lenient about speeches and understands people will suck at them and will still give you an A as long as you do it. Just show up to class and do the HW which is super easy and this is a VERY easy A.

She is absolutely great! So funny as a teacher, and a perfect teacher for the non native speakers as well. I'm so glad I took this Comm13 class.

love her lectures. i've overcame my anxiety in public speaking. she gives really good feedback. make sure to go over your lecture notes and textbook before taking the midterm and final. she's also hilarious! i recommend this class 1010

I took her class this summer secession. I have to say I loved her. Very funny. She gives great feed back. Has a good heart. Giving speeches makes people feel venerable, she know this and makes it a safe space. You'll be a better public speaker by the end of her class.

I love this professor! She only has her students do speeches about things that interest them (she doesn't have high expectations). She is genuinely a very nice and understanding person who wants her students to feel as comfortable and supported as possible. Our class was extremely supportive of each other and giving a speech was easy at the end!

Definitely made the top list of my favorite professors, she is very charismatic and treats her students like human beings. The class is not the easiest but she keeps you interested. I worked my butt off and she definitely saw my effort. I learned a lot, wish i could retake this class again for fun. Helped me improve my speech-giving skills.

She is great but there was not many assignments so make sure you study for the tests! Don't skip class as each one subtracted 2 points from your grade.

Speech can be an intimidating class, but Prof. McNamera made it fun. She is caring, funny, and will do her best to help with any questions. Put in the effort and she will notice.

Shes a good teacher overall. She has good humor and makes sure you dont get bored. She can be a little rude when it comes to judging your speeches but its not like she will give you a bad grade maybe one or two points off. She truly wants to see you grow. If you follow the directions on how to do the speeches correctly youll be fine

Great professor! She has a good heart & cares about her students. Prof. expects students to put in an effort so dont slack and youll do fine. Read for tests. its not much. And take notes during lecture days. Prof gives good feedback after speeches. Dont take it personally. She wants to help her students feel more comfortable in public speaking.

One of my favorite professors so far! She really does want you to do well and loves when you come and ask her for help. If you get on her bad side she grades you tougher. Lectures can be boring but the class is an easy A. Only 3 presentations which are very easy. Would definitely take the class again

Overall Prof. McNamara is a well respected professor. She genuinely cares about her work and has great ways of teaching it. If you are scared of taking a speech class, take her! She breaks the ice the first day and you immediately become comfortable with EVERYONE. The whole class became friends and made it easier to deliver the 3 required speeches.

All these bad reviews of her are not in line of who she really was. Mcnamara does not pick favorites. It truly comes down to wether you show interest in the class or not. She gives everyone excellent feedback on their speeches. She never judges. Make sure your speech is relevant and watch her wow your speech! Those who rated her bad were slackers..
