This was the worse class ever, had to purchase a book that wasn't even opened once since all of her test are from notes that are given by her, she gives loads amount of notes, especially right before an exam, and trying to remember all of it ridiculous!!!

Very organized, excellent presentation, relies on Powerpoint heavily but all material is in the handouts which she provides. I learned a lot from Dr. Murphy, and I recommend her without hesitation.

She is an excellent and intelligent teacher. She gives detailed notes and is fair in exams. Whatever she discussed in class, it is on the test. I highly recommend this professor to everyone who is interested in taking Microbiology. I learned a lot from her and now I'm thinking about majoring in Micro.

great teacher, very smart, she gave out sheets by every lecture on what we were going to cover which helped with the taking notes portion of the class. tests were hard but very fair. she was very understanding if you needed help with the work or if you need to take off.

the only irritating thing about dr. murphy's micro class is that i had to buy an expensive book which was NEVER used. besides that she's a pretty good teacher. the notes are somewhat long but are easily understood.

Dr. Murphy is a must, if your taking any biology classes have her as a Professor. You wont be using the textbook much but adhere to the notes she gives out and you'll be fine. I'd give her an 89/100.

Great Professor, all labs and notes are on ocean cruiser which is helpful but be prepared to print. All tests are from the notes, so dont buy the book. Shes very knowledgable and makes things easy to understand. Study and pay attention and youll do fine.

easy class. all test questions are from the power point notes that you can print out on the computer. never takes attendance so you don't even have to go! but she is a really nice professor even though i don't like microbiology!

I took her class during the six week summer session and although there seems to be a lot of negative comments, I would HIGHLY recommend her. This is a hardcore science class and I felt her teaching style was easy and laid back compared to other science classes. The material is tough but just go over the notes and do the ch homework,you will be ok

Just finished her class and liked her very much. She does demand respect in her classroom and she should. It's college. The material is heavy, think A&P 1 all over again on a bacterial level. Study her ppts and you'll be fine. One big paper but no homework. Tough little Irish lady that takes no BS. Go Murphy!

I had professor Murphy during Fall 2009 and though she was excellent. She is not easy but very clear and great teacher. She clearly conveys the informaiton and provides really good powerpoints. I highly recommend her. You will learn alot. She really knows the material and makes the class interesting. Good luck.

Good lecturer, always provides power point , gives plenty of extra credit options, does not take an attendance, answers all questions asked, grades all work promptly, very interesting class, will take again.

I dont agree with most of these posts, I find professor Murphy to be fair and even a little on the easy side. She teaches the kids that want to learn and doesn't let the other kids get in the way.

Don't listen to the reviews! Dr. Murphy is GREAT! No, she won't coddle you, but at this level, you shouldn't need it. Micro is tough, but she takes it, dissects it and spits it out so it is understandable and enjoyable and the class is completely passable if you keep up and pay attention. She is adorable and if you in, you'll catch her jokes!

If you dont pass this class with flying colors its your own fault. Yes, this course contains a lot of information, but Dr Murphy makes it as easy as possible. Very clear and Iv never had any surprises on her test. Treats you like an ADULT, if you need to be babied I hope ur not a nursing student..

Dr. Murphy is by far one of my favorite teachers. She explains the material very well and makes the class extremely interesting. She explains each lab and how to do it thoroughly so you do not get confused. Highly recommended!

She is definitely not a warm and cuddly type. But she is fair and Microbiology taken online is not an easy task. Medical sciences require a lot of memorization there is just no way around it. If you need the class you should take it she is a good professor.

Dr. Murphy is super nice and helpful. I feel like she wants to see people learn and succeed but wont give easy A's to slackers. Very clear and answered any questions no matter how dumb they were. Highly recommended :)

Teachers is fair and Knows what she is doing. She goes over EVERYTHING in her power points which are posted online. The tests come straight from the power points, virtually no surprises. Labs are usually very easy. The lab test is going to be based on the lab reports and anatomy of the subjects. Offers extra credit. Makes you work but not crazy.

I love this professor! She is the best to take for Microbiology. I highly recommend her. Register fast because her sections fill up easily.

Tests are fair, study the PP and you will do fine. Easy Class compared to A&P (had a 96 avg.) She tends to get more sarcastic as the semester progresses, but she is a very qualified professor, which is hard to come by @ OCC. Take her! Her classes tend to fill up quick.

Great professor. Outlines the class very well, give you study guides, and prepares you for every test/quiz. Test are all from material covered in class, so try not to miss to much, or you could fall behind. Overall easy class, and I found her quite enjoyable, even though she is a little uptight.

She gives you all the material you need to pass but you HAVE to study. The test aren't easy. She tries to be helpful but the class can get boring. Drink coffee and sit up front to not miss anything.

Although Dr. Murphy is a very friendly woman, she moves VERY fast in her powerpoints when you are trying to take her notes. You write like three words and then she changes the slide. She postes all the study guides online and her quizzes/exams result from that. I had her for lab too and we had a midterm. Overall, not too bad.

You actually have to put EFFORT in this class. That's something some people hate to do, idk why. Print the power points, take notes on them as she lectures in class, study them. That's it. She's as clear as can be, no surprises on the exam, it's all up to you. Personally I thought she was great and straight to the point! Take her!

For Microbiology, you will not be disappointed with Professor Murphy. She is passionate about the subject matter. She has even mastered the craft of teaching, so you will learn without even realizing it. If you do the reading, study the power points, and answer the study questions, you should get an A. but you have to do the reading BEFORE class.

microbiology is a tough subject. DONOT get the book. She uses powerpoints. This class is hard. You need to study to pass, without a doubt. Go to class and pay attention. She does the best she can. She gets off topic a lot but is very knowledgeable of the subject. Her lab class was hard.

Do not buy the book. Study from the powerpoint presentations and do the study guides. Microbiology requires studying, but as long as you review the material and ask questions its not too difficult to do well. She wants you to ask questions even if she picks at you a little for them. If she teases you about a question laugh it off she isn't serious.

She can be a very sassy lady at times but she really knows what she's talking about and truly does care. Her tests are pretty tough, her lab quizzes are easy. Definitely study for the tests and pay attention in class because this info is pretty important and ultimately useful for nursing. Oh, and don't forget to do the 2 discussions and case study

She is a good teacher. You don't really need the book because she makes powerpoints and goes off of them but if you're having trouble understanding her slide then I recommend getting the book. I have taken Murphy both in class and online. She is easy for both but I preferred her more in class. In class lots of extra credit, easy to follow all her tests are just what's on the PowerPoint especially diagrams. Online she grades things heavily, and marks you off for everything. Over all she is extremely nice and passionate about what she does

Great Professor! Lectures are explained in depth, just add a couple notes to the power points and do the study guides; not mandatory. Ofcourse study, study, study! Extra credit is also available. I also had Professor Murphy for lab and she was amazing, no lab work-just fun, knowledgeable experiments!! Professor Murphy knows her stuff!!

Murphy was amazing! I was nervous to take her because of the comments but I'm so happy I did. She was so nice and accommodating. You have to work hard for your grades but you can ace her class. Would definitely take her again

I have seen some reviews not in favor of Professor Murphy. I have to disagree with them. I took micro online with her and got a 91. It is a very hard class and labs are home are not the easiest. She gave me good feedback, was a far grader and responded to my email promptly. This class requires a lot of attention. I would take her again.

Even though the class was online, she had very detailed lessons each time. Always knew what she was talking about and gave additional info pertaining to the chapter. She was sweet, but got frustrated easily if no one was participating (understandably so). Definitely would recommend.

I thought Murphy was fantastic. She was informative and great with lectures. Study the study guides, notes, and powerpoints. Remember to do the two comments for discussions posts! She is very boring during lectures, but if you follow her study guides and do the connect sections required for the lecture, it will be beneficial. While she lectures just write notes and listen to what she says, as a lot of what she explains is on the exams. Exams are multiple choice and as long as you PAY ATTENTION you will be fine.

I dont know how people dont like her class, her lectures are long but shes very detailed and tells you things you should know for the exam, her study guides dont usually match up with the test but she never puts anything we didnt learn on the exam, shes very kind in class and loves class participation

I ended the class with a 96%, what I did to succeed this was the study guides she had for every chapter and redo the lectures (she has audio files for each module). Do the lab final exam completely within the first two weeks. it will help for the 3 lab quizzes. Super understanding, I highly recommend her.

Lectures can be long and detailed but Dr. Murphy was great at explaining everything. Truly not a difficult class as long as you show up and pay attention. 4 Exams for about half your final grade, but study guides are provided and relatively close to what you'll see on the test. Take her for lab, labs aren't graded just a few assignments are.

Micro was such an interesting class to take, I didn't expect to like it honestly. It covers a lot of material and you need to study. There were 4 exams, 4 discussions, and connect assignments. Assignments were graded in a timely manner and whatever your grade is is your grade, no extra credit. I would recommend her if you need to take micro.
