very icool class (you get to watch Friends), easy exams, but lots of work
nice, loves to gesture and reiterate your questions
Great lectures but tests are difficult! Cool topic!
she lectures like a grade school teacher. she's nice but, in my opinion, is not a great lecturer and was not clear about the project/paper.
Instructions for presentations and papers are pretty vague. Lecture is a BIG waste of time, she spends too much time answering stupid questions.
Lecture material moves too slow, lots of overlap between reading and lectures. I second that she lectures as if we're grade schoolers. I found the tests to be quite easy.
Catherine is great! She makes boring concepts a lot more interesting, and provides great real life examples. Tests are hard, but not too bad. Super helpful during office hours too! Highly recommend her to anyone thinking about majoring in communications!
She's a pretty good prof. Explains everything quite clear with her grade school teaching style. A lot of use of the projector. You will find yourself copying what's on the overhead at least half the time. To save time, buy classical notes.
her test questions are ambiguous but she is well prepared for class. Only downfall is her tests are kinda hard and she doesn't curve.
Ive had Puckering for CMN 3 and 103 and I liked her a lot in both classes. Her lectures are so clear and organized youll definitely learn something from her classes. Shes super fair and approachable...but dont skip out on studying.
took cmn135 W04. this class is boring and presented badly. tests are hard and the review guides are worthless. lecture notes are not helpful on tests so read that book TWICE!!! overall class sucked.
Professor Puckering is the example of what professors should be. Lectures and exams are very straightforward and she is exceedingly approachable and willing to go the extra mile to help students out. One of the best professors I've ever had.
test are o.k. I had classical notes my quarter which saved me from her extemely dry and boring lectures. If you get classical notes, class is relatively easy. look over notes a little, show up for tests and get an easy B.
Just took the midterm and the questions were VERY ambiguous. She did not put a lot of thought into that test to think about all the ways her questions could be interpreted. The questions are aimed at simiple minded people who do not think critically.
Worst professor ever. She needs to go! Avoid her!
she is fantastic. very organized, very clear in explanations, always asking for questions, interested in students as people as well. go talk to her in office hours, she's awesome.
Puckering is the best prof on the campus. Lectures are clear and well-organized, and she provides a very helpful study guide. Super appraochable during office hours, and always willing to go the extra mile to help students out. Highly recommend!!!
highly recommend the "influence in Action" freshman seminar- puckering is a great professor and the material is very interesting- very appliacble, interesting text- loved the class!
Her test questions are really vague. It's hard to answer a question that could have more than one answer (especially when it's a multiple guess question). I HATE the situational questions she uses, because it doesn't matter if you know the material, only if you know what's going on in her head.
Her exam questions are not clear at all. It really confused me and I bet it confused everyone else too, because so many people as her questions during the exams. She gives you four exams and you can drop one but the last exam (final) covers every material you've learned in the entire quarter so if y
Very good teacher, enthusiastic and very accessible. Tests, however, are a bit difficult. Questions are not always clear. But overall a really great class!
she is clear in lectures. Tests not too bad, just scantrons. No assignments other than the tests, and you get to drop one of them
Her tests were absolutely ridiculous. I studied my ass off and got a B. Does not cater to different types of learners/test-takers. Do ANY extra credit offered...or just dont take the class.
She is super clear in her lectures, and her study guides tell you exactly what to study. She is a great teacher and very sweet.
Its true the mult. choice tests r a bit confusing but i think that's just the nature of the subject. Also depends how good u r on mult. choice. If you do well on ur 3 midterms n ur happy w/ ur grade, don't need to take cumulative final. Shes very helpful & class is interesting, i'd take her again.
She explains everything very clearly and the study guide helps. Do the extra credit options and study hard. Her tests are a little bit tricky but she's a great lecturer.
Class was at 8am so it was very difficult to stay awake even though she is an interesting lecturer. Would recommend this teacher for afternoon classes when you are more alert. There were a few times the overhead didn't work, and she still explained concepts well. Slightly tricky tests.
3 MT, 1 final, takes 3 best exams. Most test questions were straight forward, from lecture or from book. Some questions were vague and could apply to different circumstances, so try asking her during the test. study guides help a lot. take advantage of extra credit
Great class. Interesting and organized lectures. Tests are straightforward. And she's pretty hot. Catherine rules.
Really cool class and a really cool women. She really loves what she does it is obvious. She will help you out whenever she can, she is supportive, and her class and her tests are simple and straighforward. She's a keeper!

I would say it's a bit boring most of the time. You will need to read the book as well as attend all her lectures, because her tests cover a bit of everything. There is a study guide for each test so you should go over that too. If you're dedicated and a hardworker, then you should get at least a B.
She also teaches 101, 134, 130, and 152, among others.
I really enjoy this instructor. She has a lot to say but has a strong desire for everyone to understand the topics. I would highly recommend.
NOT Recommended- the lectures are interesting, but the test are somewhat difficult. She gives you a study guide, but half the questions are not on the test... I did all the readings, went over my notes and the study guide. I still ended up with a poor grade. Maybe its just me.
She is absolutely wonderful. Makes class interesting, and shows tv clips to keep us entertained. She has a good sense of humor, and is always willing to answer questions. Her notes are easy to understand, and her tests are worded well.
Although she seems to have a very nice attitude she has average lectures. Tests are difficult because you'll need to attend class, study your notes, as well as read the whole book.
Like others said, she is eager to get all to do well in the class. You will need to do the reading and understand the material since lectures and text sometimes clash and those differences are in exams. Not hard if you put the type of effort you should be doing, even as a non-communications major. Enjoyed her class hope to take her again.
I am taking my 3rd class with Catherine b/c she is amazing! The exams aren't hard as long as you study for them, plus you can drop your lowest grade.
Lectures were sometimes hard to follow: sometimes she'd just lecture, other times she'd use Powerpoint, other times were overheads. Exams are moderately difficult, but follow the study guide and do the readings. You can drop the lowest of the four 50 question multiple choice exams (3 midterms and a cumulative final). Approachable in office hours.
Catherine is a sweet, wonderful, and helpful teacher. Tests are easy MC and the readings are mostly short and very understandable, plus she gives great study guides. Overall an excellent class and she is a very very good teacher to take. You won't regret it.

Professor is extremely helpful and willing to answer questions in OH. Lectures are important as there are some exam questions that strictly deal with lecture. Heavy emphasis on understanding the textbook material as well. Overall class was okay.
Lectures are pretty interesting. She's really nice and is clear when lecturing. However, most of the exam questions come from the book, since lecture is only once a week. There's a 7-8 page paper and homework assignments every week. Overall, this class was ok.
Very good teacher who knows how to lecture and still make it interesting. Her tests are fair and and she gives a good study guide. One of the VERY few good teachers at Davis.
Lectures are interesting... But her tests are tricky! Watch out!
watch out! She seems really nice and willing to help at the beginning of the class, but your entire grade is based solely on the exams and she rarely curves them...the test questions are very hard, even if you feel as though you have prepared well and understand all lecture material completely!
The last rater is right on. BEWARE! Maybe it's because she's pregnant, but the class was quite challenging and although she seems nice the first day, you'll have a curved ball thrown at you. Study guides are an outline of the entire textbook! There's no lecture study guide and, EXAMS ARE NOT RETURNED. Doesn't answer class questions plainly...vague
avoid.
Interesting class, not as bad as others make it seem. You are required to read a chapter or two a week. There is only one lecture a week and then a mandatory discussion. Grade is based on a 50 point midterm and final (based mostly from the text book which is easy reading), participation in section, weekly assignments. and a 7/8 page paper.
The majority of the tests are based on the book since lecture is only once a week. The book is really stupid and seems to complicate ideas and make them more scientific than they really need to be. Her tests are tricky and she does not curve. Discussions were fun and laid-back. Kristin is the best TA out of the three so try to get her
Professor Puckering is a lovely woman and has a very friendly and open teaching style. However, her exams are more difficult than expected- she's very detail oriented. Lectures weren't boring, but weren't exactly captivating either.
WOW..this professor seems nice but she is also a helium head! it was as if the subject matter was common sense and the tests were on physics, i mean really, u had to fill in exact phrases from the book and in the end it felt like you didn't learn a thing..AWWW! horrible! comm in general i guess is a stupid major.
prett decent professor. lectures are somewhat interesting and exams are fair, more on the hard side.
I've had Prof. Puckering for both 135 and 152. She's fantastic! 152 is an EXTREMELY interesting class, and I highly recommend her! 3 exams and an optional final. She drops your lowest test score, all worth 25%.
Great prof. Very clear and fair tests
lectures are clear, she posts her lecture slides online. no book, just readings that she posts online. she is very approachable, and tries to offer extra credit when it becomes available. her test questions are very tricky, its as if she wants you to fail. even studying a lot doesn't always help
She's a great teacher but her tests are super tricky. I got a really bad grade in her class but I loved how enthusiastic she was in each lecture. She really enjoys what she teaches and makes it interesting. Tests include some reading material that she emails so make sure to read. pretty face too
Walked into class OMG She is hot.I will be coming to this class more often.
She is approachable, friendly, and is enthusiastic about her teaching. Going to class is important, since she sneaks in midterm answers without telling you if its going to be in it. Out of the 4 tests, the lowest score gets dropped. She also gives extra credit too, which helped my grade from a B+ to A! Overall, easy class, great professor!
Great instructor, she tries very hard to make class interesting and keep her students engaged. Tests aren't too difficult if you review your notes well and she gives you the possible essay questions before hand. She also offers extra credit opportunities.
Catherine is a great teacher. her lectures are clear and her tests are not tricky. take notes in class as her lecture slides are just the main points of the lectures. Study lecture notes and go to review session. EC offered :)
Prof puckering was great. she exlained all the topics well and was enthuastic during class. Make sure to attend class, she talks about stuff not on slides. take good notes and read the textbook and you should do fine
Although she seems to be a nice person, I don't respect her as a professor. We had 8am classes and she would show up late which really annoyed me because if the students can get to class before 8am, the professor definitely should be able to as well. Her tests were also very tricky. The book and her notes contradicted. Not pleased about the class.
Professor Puckering is a great prof. She is engaging, tells a lot of personal stories which makes it easy to remember info, and is willing to help you at all times. Her exams are difficult because of her style of multiple choice. I would take her class again because she gives mini breaks and keeps the class engaged.
She is an awesome professor although her exams are somewhat tricky. Don't skipping her lectures or u can read the book! Her slides do not have much imformation! But don't worry! her lectures are interesting!
Her tests are a bit tricky, but if you glance over the slides periodically, you can generate the answer on the tests. She is approachable as well and is a sweet lady.
This was my favorite class for the quarter. You get easy points for doing easy HW and for in-class assignments. All multiple-choice exams. You should do fine if you study your class notes, read the textbook, and do the study guides.
She speaks like she is lecturing fifth graders. I do not respect her teaching style. Her tests are tricky because the multiple choice answers are never straightforward.
Taught like a high school class, so if you loved high school you'll probably like this class. Of course, she is not very professional, objective,or extremely knowledgeable. Ice breakers on the first day of an upper div 8am class? I was insulted as a senior and scholar. Tests are moderately difficult, nothing that can't be handled.
She's an awesome person and you can tell she loves the subject. She's engaging and willing to answer questions. READ THE BOOK! Test ?s are tricky and study guides are vague. Go to class and read/study and ask ?s!!!
This professor is AMAZING! She teaches in a way that is clear and easy for everyone to understand. She's not bad on the eyes;) She is super sweet and the tests are straightforward if you go to class. Completely recommend her!:)
I didn't like her study guide for the 3 midterms. Too much info to study for a class. Oh, and the final is a joke, its cumulative. It was hard to manage the study load for the first test, but got used to it after the second. The seconds test is the hardest, and the third test is the easiest.
Great professor. Her lectures are clear and understandable and is very eager to answer questions in class. She draws from personal experiences to ground theories into reality. Lots of people find her exams to be tricky, but just be very familiar with her course material and you will do fine. I would say exams are 60-70% lecture.
Wonderful. Great lecturer, especially for 134. Topics are interesting and uses lots of examples. The material isn't difficult - but the exams are really tricky. Some overlap between 134 and 101. You need to definitely read the book for 134. Study Guides tell you what's NOT on the exam - can be challenging, for the book.
This class is okay. the exams are not easy, you have read the textbook for sure, and her study guide is useless. the only one thing good is she drops the lowest grade. She gives 3 exams and 1 final. if you do well on the first three, then you do not need to take the final. Too much reading for preparing for final. Qs are tricky! MUST READING TEXT
This class is not hard as long as you are willing to put in the effort and study (as is expected of college students, esp. at a UC). Her exams are not difficult unless you miss class or cannot apply the information. The two application logs are extremely easy and a great way to boost your grade. You can study solely the lectures and ace every exam.
Amazing professor, clear and fun to listen to. took both 134 and 152
took her for 152 and 134 and I am taking 135 with her in the Spring. She makes lecture fun, interesting, and enjoyable.
She was really smart, and obviously knew what she was talking about. She made the class completely do-able. As long as you do the readings and go to class, the tests are not hard at all.
CLASS IS EASY BUT I CANT TELL YOU THE LAST TIME I RECEIVED AN EMAIL RESPONSE FROM HER. I HAVE TAKEN 3 COURSES OVER THE LAST 2 QUARTERS AND I HAVE RECEIVED A RESPONSE ONCE. HER CLASS ISNT TOO DIFFICULT, I JUST WISH SHE ACTED LIKE SHE CARED A BIT MORE ABOUT HER STUDENTS.
Mrs. Pukering is an awful teacher. She teaches like you're a 5th grader then on the exams she is so toughtricky. These classes were extra curriculars and they were so hard even with studying and reading the book. She is very unfair with her exams. I would NEVER re-take this teacher again. Awful
Very passionate!! Easy to talk to and clarifies everything, backs it up with examples that are easy to understand.
I'm now taking my 3rd class with Puckering--that's how much I love her! Her exams are easy as long as you take lecture notes (examples important) and read the book. Reading the text is pretty essential for all of her exams. If you study both lecture and text material there is no reason you shouldn't come out with an A :)
Really enjoyed Catherine's class. She does a good job at trying to make lecture interesting and engaging, and the homework was pretty minimal. The tests are difficult, but there's no real surprises. In the times I've talked to her, she seems like a really sweet person and you can tell she likes what she's doing. Would recommend.
Catherine is a solid teacher who knows her stuff. But she definitely makes you work for your grade. You HAVE to read and take notes from the text along with taking notes from her lectures. All tests (3 exams, 1 final) are 50 MC and can be tricky but she drops the lowest one, meaning you may not even have to take the final like I did!
Great professor. If I could I would string all my quarters to have at least one class with them instructing. Go to class as lecture stuff is on the test; read as well, her guidance is perfect to finding what you need to study. Tests are normal with easy/medium/hard questions. 60-80 lecture 40-20 reading When extra credit is given, its easy :)
Loved her classes. Breaks the class into many midterms, seems scary, but this gives bite sized portions to be graded on and time to make up if you bombed one. Dropped the lowest test grade as well 3 AMAZING teacher, one of the reasons I switched my major. Hidden jem within the department, her classes fill quick because of her style and grades
